Week 17 – Dolphins @ Bills

The last week of the 2020 NFL Regular season is upon us, and no matter what the outcome of our game versus the Buffalo Bills is, I’m thankful for our Dolphins for giving us a great season. Whether we win or lose, make the playoffs or don’t make the playoffs, I think I’d be hard pressed to find a Dolphins fan that feels that this 2020 team didn’t exceed their expectations. This team had a bumpy start but once we got rolling, we have been an ultra competitive team. Our worst loss was the first game of the season against the Patriots losing by 10 points. Since then, our loss to the Seahawks in Week 4 was our 2nd worst losing by 8. Our seasons point differential is +96. We are the #1 scoring defense (points allowed) at 18.8 in the NFL. If I told any of you we’d be traveling to Buffalo Week 17 with a 10-5 record as the #5 seed in the AFC, there’s not one of you who wouldn’t be thrilled with those circumstances.

I’m not going to bore with you with last week’s theatrics, we won a game we had no business winning but we did win, and now we live to fight another day. Coach Brian Flores has already decided that Tua Tagovailoa is the starter. Is this decision made for this week or for the future as well? I’d say in some ways it’s probably both, but I also believe that Flores believes Tua is his best QB. I don’t think Flores is a puppet and no one is pulling his strings. He’s making the personnel decisions and he’s declared Tua is the QB. Once again, I mean absolutely no disrespect to QB Ryan Fitzpatrick but there is a fine line between Fitzmagic and Fitztragic. He’s a gambler, and as everyone knows, sometimes ya win and sometimes ya lose. I’m going to enlighten some of you here, so be prepared. Over Ryan Fitzpatrick’s career, his TD% is 4.4 and his INT% is 3.3. Tua Tagovailoa in his short career has a TD% of 4.3 and an INT% of 0.9%. This doesn’t tell the entire story, and there are many metrics to look at, but I think Flores wants a player that’s careful with the football, and Tua Tagovailoa is that guy. That doesn’t mean he couldn’t be better, he can, and hopefully Sunday he will be.

The Bills are 12-3 for a reason. The best teams in the NFL score points, and the Bills are the 4th best scoring offense at 29.7 PPG. Their passing offense is #2 in the NFL throwing for 4,398 yards. Josh Allen is having a monster year, completing 69.1 % of his passes with 4,320 yards with 34 TD’s and just 9 INT’s. The Bills defense is stingier giving up yards than our Dolphins as they are ranked at the #10 defense in the NFL but they are allowing nearly a TD more per game than our defense. Their rushing attack is on par with our own rushing attack and they have used a 1-2 punch with Devin Singletary and Zack Moss. They are 19th in the league rushing and we are 22nd. The problem is their rushing attack doesn’t stop with these 2. QB Josh Allen is a legitimate weapon with over 4oo yards rushing and 8 rushing TD’s. When they’re in the red zone, you have to account for the QB running as well.

On the injury front, we know that LB Elandon Roberts is OUT along with Jakeem Grant. Practicing on a limited basis were WR DeVante Parker, OL Solomon Kindley and S Bobby McCain. McCain is not a threat to miss the game. Both TE Mike Gesicki and G Ereck Flowers were both FULL participants. That’s good news. I think Elandon Roberts is done for the season and that’s unfortunate. He wouldn’t be getting as many snaps this week anyway because the Bills throw the ball more. Can we talk about a Dolphins defender who gets very little ink in NFL circles? #55, Jerome Baker is having a great season. He leads the Dolphins with 108 tackles, he has 11 QB hits, 7 tackles for a loss along with 7 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. This really is a no-name defense, with the exception of X who is known league wide. So many contributors including lesser known Zach Sieler, Elandon Roberts, Eric Rowe, Andrew Van Ginkel, rookie Raekwon Davis, Christian Wilkins, Nik Needham and a guy who leads the Dolphins in sacks, Emmanuel Ogbah. Hope Ogbah can be the first Dolphins defender since Cam Wake to have double digit sacks with a great game against the Bills. We need to take Josh Allen down! Hopefully Shaq Lawson can make it for this game, although AVG certainly made his presence felt.

In summation, I think it’s important to have the right perspective. The Dolphins are a team on the rise, no question about it. We have built a team so quickly it’s shocking. We are set up to have another strong draft and a top 5 draft pick which currently stands at #3. Once again we have TWO 1st RD picks and TWO 2nd RD picks, most likely 4 in the top 60. We also have a fair amount of cap space ($32M) as well to fill in Free Agency. The future looks so much brighter than we could have imagined. I didn’t expect us to be at 10-5 going into the last week of the NFL season. I didn’t expect our team to be this good, this fast. Whatever happens this weekend, the future is bright my friends, enjoy it!

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Happy New Year!!

Figure the end of the Raiders game was a gift from god. If the high and mighty shows up for the Phins today will be by helping the Steelers or Jags. And anyhow….. was a great season.

  25. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Looks like I will be streaming the Jags game today LOL

  26. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Good thing Miami has a lot of picks in the draft. And hopefully Gailey retires. No need to ruin another QB.

  27. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Devonta Smith, Pick 1. He may be small but I bet he’ll be injured less than Parker next year no matter where he plays.

  28. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Our loss means the titans are in even with a loss. The only way today gets worse is a titans loss

  29. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

    Td steelers

  30. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    19 killed us today

    20-19 giants

  33. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    #1 defense my ass…

  34. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

Bad karma on bills running up the score (throwing deep) – then again the D has to stop them.

  35. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Honestly, I’m embarrassed. This team looks just like any iteration of the Dolphins the last decade or more. Need a W to make the playoffs and shit the bed

  36. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

parker sucks, bowden sucks, chan gailey sucks, Gesicki sucks?????

it’s everyone else’s fault except for the common denominator,

  37. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Hey at least we kept our turnover streak alive woohoo

  38. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Tua is not an NFL QB.

  39. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Well that one is all Tua

  40. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

The dolphins of the last 20 years finally showed up. We’re back!!

  41. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

Keeps throwing high – I wonder if that thumb injury has been a problem?

  42. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

#1 scoring defense … pfft! gone, just like that.

  43. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

So if I’m scoring correctly, it’s Bill’s back up 14, dolphins starters 7…

  44. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I feel like I should be at Slattery’s for this game

  45. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Bills trying to run up the score?

  46. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Tua looks terrible today. The team looks terrible but Tus has been pretty bad most of the year. We have a lot to think about this next offseason.

  47. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    #1 defense my asssssssss

  48. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

bring fitz back, fitz is serviceable, draft a qb 2nd rndish or bring in a FA.

have a real competition at the qb position, not get the job based on how likeable you are or where you were drafted.
trade back that #3 pick and pick up more future draft picks

  49. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

So , if the stars align and we manage to get in I assume we draw a rematch with Bills

  50. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    21-7 Bill’s backups

  51. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Bills are totally running up the score and playing like the classless team we know they are

  52. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Wow that INT was ugly by Tua.

  53. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I see why they only let tua throw it 5 yds or less

  54. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

THIS GAME proved that Miami is STILL under talented on BOTH sides of the ball. We will need to hit on all 4 of our picks in the first two rounds of the upcoming draft. THAT SAID, we are NOT as bad as we looked today. IF we can win 10 games with the talent we currently have, we can WIN MORE THAN 10 GAMES if we have a solid draft.

ALL IN ALL, this season certainly exceeded my expectations. And, in a way, this sour ending will serve to light a fire under this team during the off season (which is just what coach FLO wants to do)!!!

  55. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Nice catch by Ford

  56. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Ford’s last game in a Phins uniform.

  57. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

we have a good team that will only get better, all we need is a decent QB, at this point we are not playoff ready,

  58. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I can understand why Ford dropped that. That ball is scary

  59. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

    Woohoo. 🐬🐬🐬🐬

  60. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Really scary…

  61. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Steelers with ball 3 minutes left

  62. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

    1st and goal Steelers

  63. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Question is, if say the Jags upset the Colts, can this team actually show up again this season?

  64. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

7 more scores and we’re right back in it

  65. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

This team was a total surprise this year. At the beginning of the season if someone said we’d be in the playoff hunt at the last game of the season I’d have thought they were insane. Hate losing, but still see the upside.

This is me trying to be positive.

  66. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Steelers had better not win. we don’t deserve to get in

  67. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

When Isaiah Ford sees the ball come towards him

  68. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

TD Steelers need the 2 pter

  69. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Steelers just scored

  70. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Even if we shit the bed today…. I’d still like to see a chance for some playoff experience.

just need steelers to get 2 pt conv . to get a chance.

  71. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Good for Salvon. Good for the team.

  72. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

    Steelers miss 2pt conversion

  73. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

    Beer^

  74. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Steelers do have 3 TO left

  75. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Are they just struggling with a cold ball?

  76. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Piggy, looks more like they’re struggling with no balls today

  77. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

    WTF screw Buffalo

  78. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Fuck I hope we get in and mash these fuckers next week

  79. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Bills totally just rubbing our face in this shit

  80. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

I would be really pissed if I was Flores

  81. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    #1 defense my aaassss

  82. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Dolphins now #28 in scoring defense

  83. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

    Browns in

  84. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

    Steelers going to lose

  85. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Throwing the bomb when you are up by 30 in the 4th Q is a real dick move.

  86. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

That’s really a classless play by the Bills

You don’t throw the ball deep in first down with 7 minutes to go and a more than comfortable lead

  87. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

    Same 5 offensive play calls over….and over….and over…….

  88. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Well, just need the titans to lose to finish this wonderful Sunday

  89. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Buffalo Bills now the big bully on the block. Gotta do something about it

  90. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Throw the ball at Josh Allen’s knees

  91. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    LMAO, that one he catches

  92. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Maybe the Bills are trying to show Miami how to throw it downfield even if your QB is fucking Barkley.

  93. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

He might actually throw for 400 yards today

    Silver lining I guess

  94. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I hope they score 9 more tds. Run it up. Embarrass us. Maybe it’ll mean something

  95. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Ok first down. Work the clock.

  96. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

That was a nice throw – and wow Tua’s thrown almost 60 times now, ORob’s TuaMarinowhatever statement on the mark for attempts anyway.,

  97. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Bills just flat out bullied us today. Beat us with their starters then undressed us with their backups. They sought out to embarrass us and they succeeded

  98. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

If somehow the Jags beat the colts

Then we play the bills again next week….lol
