Less than 2 weeks away, and the closer it gets, the crazier it becomes. I’m willing to eat some crow here if I’m wrong, but those of you fawning over Micah Parsons or any other defender for that matter, are barking up the wrong tree. I mean no disrespect, but no matter how good our defense is, if we don’t surround our QB with premium weapons, why would you expect the offense to be premium? Let’s face it, the NFL is an offensive league, and the Kansas City Chiefs have proven that to be the case by making back to Super Bowl appearances, winning last year in 2020 but losing to the offensive powerhouse Tampa Bay Buccaneers in this past Super Bowl. Did TB have the better defense? Yes, but their defense was a compliment to their own high powered offense. The TB offense put up 492 points (#3 in the NFL) and allowed 355 points (8th in the NFL). The Miami Dolphins on the other hand were #15 in the NFL on offense, and to be fair, a lot of that was a decline in the offense after Tua took over for Fitzpatrick. The Dolphins averaged 26.6 points with Fitz at the helm and only managed 24.4 with Tua, including a couple of relief appearances by Fitz which helped that average. On defense, the Dolphins were #6 for points allowed at 21.1 PPG. My point is, if you think we’re taking a LB at #6, THINK AGAIN!!!
The Dolphins have to improve this offense and that could be done a few different ways. I’ve made it clear and will continue to reiterate that our WR corps is shaky at best. The top 3 are all health question marks, Parker, Fuller and Williams. The next 3, depending on what order you believe the depth chart is would be Bowden, Hurns and Wilson. The latter 2 haven’t played in over a year and were both recovering from serious injuries, Wilson with that terrible hip injury which he seemed to have finally shaken off by his last season’s end and Hurns who suffered a gruesome ankle injury with the Cowboys in January of ’19. Add Jakeem (No Hands) Grant and Malcolm Perry, Mack Hollins and Robert Foster and I’m sorry but you just can’t expect Tua to improve with this crew. No, they need TOP SHELF talent, and being at 6, we will get it. One of the following players will be there, Chase, Pitts or Smith. I had dismissed Smith for a while because once we acquired another WR who can’t stay on the field, my thought was the last thing we need is a 170 pound WR at #6, but there is familiarity and a super high level of talent there, and in spite of his smallish stature, he knows how to stay on the field and is a superior route runner who gets separation. I still believe if Chase or Pitts is there, we will go with one of those guys but if the Falcons don’t take a QB and the Bengals don’t go OL , potentially Pitts and Chase could go respectively.
While the O-line was much improved, from terrible to average, it’s not yet become a force. I think it’s pretty clear that both Solomon Kindley and Robert Hunt are our guards for the foreseeable future, and Austin Jackson is one of the bookends, most likely our LT. Penei Sewell could be that bookend that really pulls things together. I think the way we handled the center position in FA leads me to believe we’re going to draft a center, which would mean a 2nd or 3rd RD pick, because the acquisition of former Ravens C Matt Skura was underwhelming. The Ravens are a first class organization, and when they let a guy walk, there’s a reason. Add in the fact that he’s here on a 1YR deal makes me feel like Skura is here to start unless the rookie we draft beats him out or if the rookie isn’t ready to start. Sewell would be an upgrade over swingman Jesse Davis who has been wonderful filling in anywhere and everywhere. Giving Tua more time and confidence that he has ample time makes him a better QB.
I do think one of our first 4 picks will be on a LB/EDGE player, but not at #6, we just have to give Tua a chance here, and nothing we’ve done in the offseason despite a couple of potentially good signings in Will Fuller and Malcolm Brown have really elevated the talent here. Fuller is too often injured and Brown is a committee type RB, not a bell cow back. There are LB’s and tweener LB/EDGE guys that could help at #18 like Jaelan Phillips, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Kwity Paye, Gregory Rousseau, Azeez Ojularia, Jayson Oweh etc. I get the Parsons love, I do, but with the state of our offense, I think that needs to be the focal point for a premier player, just the way I feel. We simply can’t wait to see who’s available at #18, unless we trade up from #18, which is possible, it’s about getting great players that impact the team, not about quantity. Quality over quantity every time, especially where we’re at in the rebuild.
GO DOLPHINS!!!

f^cking Cardinals pitching has been pure trash
Orob, you are clueless about Pitts.
Lol….I’ll stop there!
Hope Pitts and Parsons are Dolphins! Everything else would be gravy to me….and I’m not a gravy fan. Lol!
WOW! Just WOW!
Pitts over Chase?
Ok….just wow!
The Falcons have had one of the most dominant WRs ever in Julio Jones for a decade. He even made the play that should have clinched a SB victory against the Pats, but the HC and staff fucked it up.
Teams win Super Bowls with not just one or two players. The Bucs entire defense was the reason for the last one. But everyone praises Brady. Really? He loses against GB in the championship game without DEFENSE!!!! ‘;)
Preaching to the choir…..
^ I know just going by what I see.
Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams and Aaron Jones. Not enough.
So Piggy doesn’t get upset and think stoners are the planet’s problem, of course, I’m going to deny everything. LMAO!
It’s 4:20 somewhere soon…
LMFAO!
Peoples’ biases and judgments crack me up!
Please don’t shoot me in the back for being for being a criminal!
I will run away from you!
If we trade down don’t lose out on Parsons. He’s the best defensive player in this draft. Just saying.
Dan Marino, the Mark’s brothers and Co. We could score, but we couldn’t stop anyone.
Krishna you are the Pitts
Welcome to the club! Congratulations!
Miami receives: 2021 first round pick (No. 16), 2022 first-round pick, 2022 second-round pick,
Arizona receives: No. 6 overall, used to select TE Kyle Pitts
I don’t see this one. Remember those 2022 picks are only a 2nd and 3rd round value. 😉
Do we make this trade tomorrow or once Pitts is there at #6?
I doubt we make any further trades until we’re on the clock at #6
i’ve seen Surtain going to Atl @#4, Sewell to Cincy, if that’s the case all 3 recs and 2 QBs would still be on the board!
That would make for a very interesting decision by Miami.
Trade back, get more future resources??
another reason to trade back would be to extend your time running this organization, in case of a losing season or a Tua melt down you could make the argument that you haven’t had the time to fully realize these future moves.
We won with Tua light as a rookie 6-3. Not sure why you think a melt down will happen in his 2nd year when he’s stronger both mentally and physically.
I think Trey Lance is the hot QB prospect teams are getting giddy about.
Chicago could be in play on him, they’ve been known to give up future 1st rnders
we gave up a 22 first to move from 12 to 6, getting a 22 first and 2nd to move back to 16 seems to be similar value if not a little on the positive return side.
Uhhhhh… we didn’t give up anything other than a 4th for a 5th this year. Nobody mentions we got a 2022 3rd and a 2023 1st.
I’m not sure what you’re talking about however we did give up our 22 first to move from 12 to 6, so yes we did give up something for that move
You still don’t get that the 2022 1st was part of the three team trade. The deal doesn’t go down without the Eagles getting something from the 49ers as well. The 2022 1st was never really ours, we were just the conduit. STOP!!!! LOL
you should give up on this subject as you clearly have no clue. the Eagles didn’t get jack from the 9ers, we gave the eagles (OUR) 22 first.
(note the parenthesis and caps) (OUR) meaning the Miami Dolphins 22 first.
Got it?
that should give you a clue to stop your nonsense
You will never go wrong drafting the best player available, so that’s what our strategy should be. No matter what round we are in, we should be grabbing the best player available. You don’t want to be drafting guys that aren’t the best or even second best available. That’s not good business.
Doh!
where’s Doh projected to go?
News just in from Tim,
As for the 3 team trade the 49ers were pissed at Miami for initially not wanting to give Philly the 22 1st rnd they gave to Miami for moving up!
how dare them!
the 49ers said the only reason they made the deal was to help philly!
stay tuned for more news from your local lunatic!
ORob, you’re wrong, let it go. The 49ers gave up all the draft capital in the trade. Unless you think the key was us swapping a 4th for a 5th with the Eagles this year. What part of the trade never happens without the Eagles do you not get? Everyone gets this but you.
Oh and by the way, who throws around insults? Yeah that’s what I thought. LOL
This lunatic is signing off for a few. We still have #6 to work with, I wonder how that happened. Hmmm… yes… it must have been magic. Looks for a brick wall but decides against it. LOL
Oh right you’re hanging onto that we gave up “our” 1st round pick in 2022 but the trade never happens without the Eagles getting a 1st from us without the 49ers giving us two 1st round picks. It’s not that complicated. Carry on!!!!
you’re speaking in terms of fact, yet you’re really just speculating, has Flores & Grier said that to be the case? until then it’s speculation.
but keep up the good work and tell Brian and chris i said hello.

Yes they explained the trade clearly about how it went down. It’s on record.
I’m done with it Tim, have a great day
Tim
Who really cares how it happened? it happened.
why are we arguing this point?
f^cking Cardinals pitching has been pure trash
—————————–
I know, it’s great isn’t it!!!!!!!
Honestly, they have been slow starting the last couple years only to finish strong. I wouldn’t worry Cav.
Go Nats!
They certainly could’ve have not done the deal without Philly in place, but no one knows that for certain. you speak as if it’s a fact.
A 3 team trade is when three different teams are intertwined together towards a deal to trade players, draft picks within themselves, where a team’s assets can go to either of the other two teams involved in the trade, receiving assets from any of the other two teams.
And, in this case, Miami received and gave up assets with two other teams in less than hour. I count three teams. Lol.
Does it really matter that SF and Philly didn’t deal with each other directly?
call it what you like, however you want to label it is not the issue.
3 team trades do not happen very much in the nfl, they happen in the nba
the question is would the fo do the sf deal without philly involved?
tim seems to have seen that as fact that they would not have.
i like the sf deal way better than the philly deal, i think we paid too much to move to 6.
that said everything is still pending, if we move to 16 and pick up another 1st and 2nd, then so be it.
i would take that over just having another pick and staying at 12
if we take a player at 6, you have to weigh that against the 2 first rnd picks we gave up for that player.
i would rather have the two 1sts,
To go from 6 to 16 is 600 pts. AZs 2nd this year and 1st next year is 810 pts.
That’s too much to pay for a teamnnot going up for a QB, but you never know for Pitts.
I think the scenario was #16 a 22 first & a 22 second for #6, just read it on the internet as a possible trade if Pitts is there at 6
is there a player worth 2 firsts in this draft? i’d bet the farm on it, the problem is identifying that player.
the more picks you have the better your chances.
I would rather pick the BPA at 6 than wait for 12 and pick 2nd or 3rd BPA, especially since 6 should start and fills a hole.
Talent is needed at this phase of the rebuild, not more picks.
They say from 6 to 13 the talent level is similar, the drop off is after 13
I have no faith in they
Depends though what you’re looking for.
WR is deep, but the top 4 are a lot better, than the next tier.
If you’re looking for several positions like WR, OT, OLB/Edge I could see the talent being there at 12.
Top 12, 5 QBs 4 receivers, OT, CB, OLB
I can see Surtain at 10, Sewell anywhere from 5-9, no telling on Parsons maybe 9, 10, 12
not a single position target, BPA, 6 thru 13 similar, then a drop off in talent
Owusu and Parsons would have similar value to us so I’d add him into the top 14
I really don’t want to kick the can too far down the road, but I’d be OK going to 9, even for Parsons or Waddle.
If we did drop down a few spots it would be better to get a 2021 2nd or 3rd in the deal
Not political. Just about coffee. lol
What i like about this F.O. is they have sprinkled this roster with depth at all positions, i think that makes them have no real glaring needs and are able to take BPA when ever they pick.
That’s what they try to accomplish in FA every year.
Think BPA is the most misunderstood aspect of the draft.
Teams narrow BPA to several positions and rarely do websee a true BPA early at a position not of need
I think you guys are just greedy 🐷
We have a lot of draft picks, we don’t need to move down
Honestly I think moving up from 18 or moving down from 18 if parsons is off the board makes more sense and seeks more likely
I think the odds of Pitts or Chase not being at 6 seem slim
It’s the 18 pick that’s a little iffy to me
With the trade proposal above about moving to 17, or even 19 or 20…
What if we really don’t want a WR or a top one?
We already have a lot of $ tied to it.
Someone like Owusu with our 1st pick, then Najee, Rousseau at 36, and we’d likely have another 2 and a 1st next year.
How much does a rookie WR really contribute right away?
Getting Najee would at least give us 1 dynamic player on O
RBs taken in the 1st usually contribute right away, and can open up the O.
Think we’d at least take a WR by the 2nd no matter what
Everything goes back to, we have so many good options available, because we did kick the can down the road…why stop kicking?
We had the long and surprisingly hotly contested conversation about discounting the worth of future draft picks in trades. Still think they should be (and are) discounted but agree in a way with the guys who said a pick is a pick. Cause think that standard one-round per year discount is too much.
So think a first in the next draft is worth more than a 2nd in this one. Which means if GM I would trade for future picks all the time.
Fuck 2022. I wat them to win this year. Draft defense early, add WR & RB later. Parsons and Payne.
Parsons, Paye then Najee or Williams. Sounds good to me.
I don’t care what Parsons did when he was 18 or 19. Put him this new Dolphins culture with these coaches and he will be a force and I think the same with Paye or anyone else they bring in on defense.
Yep. Don’t know why my autocorrect wants Paye to be Payne.
Paye could be a difference maker, but he’s not a hand in the ground 3-4 DE like he played at Michigan.
If he went to a 3-4 team he’s got the speed to play OLB and blitz, but you may have develop him.
I think his biggest value will be a 4-3 DE.
A developmental player isn’t someone I’d like to take in the 1st however, being a somewhat down year for Edge…
Because Paye is going to be a Payne for us, if we draft him in the 1st
Or opposing defenses
He needs a lot of work, before he’s a Payne to opposing Ds
Can’t we win this year with the WR corps we currently have + maybe a 2nd rd rookie?
And get another first next year
Not going WR in the 1st could sure up some other spots and allow more balance on O
Seattle was all set at DE, then 2 days after signing Aldon…
Seattle Seahawks defensive end Aldon Smith turned himself in Tuesday night after a warrant was issued for his arrest in connection with an alleged assault in the New Orleans area, according to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Smith turned himself in St. Bernard Parish Prison shortly before 8 p.m. ET. He was booked and released on bond.
An arrest warrant was issued for Smith on Monday for an alleged second-degree battery that occurred Saturday evening. St. Bernard Parish District Attorney Perry Nicosia told ESPN that Smith allegedly choked a victim unconscious during a confrontation that began inside a coffee shop in Chalmette, Louisiana.
He can’t keep himself out of trouble
Glad we didn’t sign him
I think if we drafted Paye he will be primarily an edge rusher from 3-4
And then sometimes when we play 4 down lineman he can be the DE
From what I’ve seen he’s pretty versatile
His problem is he can’t get off of blocks, he’s different in react/Chase sutuations
If you put off drafting an offensive weapon this year like a chase or a pitts, you are also putting off your 2nd year QB’s development in 2021
That’s the harm/risk
It’s a balancing act at the end of the day
You aren’t really dead in the water on 2021, there will be good weapons in the 2nd round, even the 3rd round, maybe one of them can exceed what a weapon at 6 would have done
And maybe your current roster is healthier than it was last year
But i do think you have to be realistic about it at least pausing your QBs development
The guys we were playing last year by the end of the seasom made me 🤮
You might be putting yourself in the same position
For sure Tua will benefit from getting one the two best pass catchers (and probably two bets non-QBs) in the draft. I’m hoping he is better than needing one to develop. Parker and Fuller are at worst an average NFL starting WR tandem.
Guess just don’t need to specifically coddle Tua with this or that player. He’s gonna get a good amount of back-up in this draft however it works out. Then will be up to him.
I was just giving a scenario of what our FO may be thinking.
I agree about Tua development and you wouldn’t draft other players instead of a WR in the 1st, if it negatively affected Tua’s development
I think this FO has done a good job of getting veteran guys at positions of need on relatively short contracts and then drafting guys for those same positions. It allows you to, hopefully, be competitive and win some games to keep your roster excited and feeling like they can win and allowing you time to develop young players.
***
I think the Fluker signing is another example of this. A veteran who gives you some flexibility along the OL who can definitely start if you need him to, but he was signed to a one year contract. It allows you to have some stability along the OL while still developing your young guys. I don’t think any of our FA signings suggest we are or are not still looking to draft a guy at any position. It also gives these young guys veterans to learn from. This roster is still pretty young, and young guys need veterans to learn from and push them.
Think they’re managing to win now with an eye on the future.
You can be all in for 2021, but you better win and the pressure will be on.
I see them playing both sides today and tomorrow
I keep going back and looking at Paye’s play to see if I can see what some folks say about him. I think he certainly looked stiff and robotic on some plays. However, the more I watch him, the more I think it’s because he’s a technician. He may be a bit overly concerned with doing everything technically sound, and it makes him look less athletic than he is. I do think he tends to rely on his power too often….but that’s typical of young guys. He doesn’t look like he plays intuitively. I think the guy is actually a pretty damn good athlete for his size, but I do still think he’s a tweener. In a few years, he could be playing at around 280, but I read that he is trying to get lighter, so he can be seen as…and be more effective as…an edge rusher. How that translates to the field is an unknown.
***
As I’ve said many times over the years too, unless you know what a DL is being asked to do on a given play…it can be hard to evaluate what you see. Maybe a guy isn’t getting penetration because he’s being asked to hold the LOS. Maybe you see a guy penetrate into the backfield when he really wasn’t supposed to…and so on.
That’s why you watch game tape, his true colors wi come out over time.
He’s strong, put up over 30 reps, but he has no moves, and rarely overpowers good competition
Listening to draft guys talking about missing on draftees is kind of ridiculous, because you can like a Paye or Rousseau, but if they aren’t drafted to the right system or used properly, they may fail or be an Edelman and put in the perfect situation and succeed.
Some guys will succeed no matter what, few and far between though
steve,
What makes you think I don’t watch game film if I can get it? Parsons looked like shit against Iowa in one game, and people still love him! Lol
***
I didn’t see what you say about him at all. What I see is a guy who could use some work in his hand technique. He tends to hold and shed late in the play….which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But, when he decides to get rid of an OL, he can do it. In the NFL, he’ll need to learn how to better set up guys. There are also plenty of plays that show him shedding and getting off of blocks, so I don’t get this idea that he can’t. I think once he learns to use a little better hand placement, he’ll be even better. I still don’t see him as a big time edge rusher/sack guy, but this defense isn’t predicated on that.
You said,
it can be hard to evaluate what you see. Maybe a guy isn’t getting penetration because he’s being asked to hold the LOS.
I was just saying you watch game tape, so you can get a basic understand of how well he does certain things, regardless of what his duties are on a given play/plays, not that you didn’t watch game tape
If Pitts & Chase are gone @#6, who do you take? Smith, Waddle or Sewell.
If i’m choosing it’s Sewell hands down.
I’d punt
Really tough to say . I’d choose Sewell cause he is the value pick, but Smith better fits what we need. And with 2 top QBs left the phone should be ringing.
Lol at pp’s comment and agree. Get the fucking best players you can in this draft. We get to pick 5 of the top college players out of the first 86.
What does it take to do that?
Do you stay at 6 and take Smith or do you maximize your return and take Parsons and pick up a 2nd and take an extra top player?
Obviously rolling the dice, but if we deal with the Broncos at #9 might pick exact same player would have taken at #6.
Take Barmore at 18
I heard he’s been barred more times from every buffet on this side of the Mississippi
Some say by trading out of 3 we’re making our team worse this year, because the extra comp is for future years.
What if we want Smith and we get him at 9, after another trade down? Seems we’re drafting the same players and looking to the future, and maybe even getting another 2nd this year
Beer. And yeah can’t see either “no trade downs” or “yeah we should trade down.” All depends on the offer.
DeVonta Smith checked in last week at 166 pounds… he was trending on Twitter nationwide just earlier today as a result (the report came out today). The more I watch his tape, the more I’m ‘WOWed’ by his play. The more I pay attention to his weight, the more he drops further and further down my list.
Lot of undersized guys have proven a lot of people wrong
I don’t disagree with ya, Pigster. However, the odds are against him…
All the GMs say they are looking for one of these. Sounds like Smith is one, just not the kind they mean. But he’s dominated in the SEC.

M, I saw that BS stat this morning, none of those guys are close to the college player Smith was.
Smith is quick, deceptive, elusive and smooth as any that have ever played, he’ll be fine.
The league rid itself of the Ronnie Lotts, by changing the rules.
Back in the day you’d get clobbered over the middle.
Today the smallest guys are going across.
The only thing you have to worry about with Smith is him getting is block knocked off.
That’s not likely to happen any more with him than Parker.
Parker can take a bigger hit, but he gets hit a lot, Smith shouldn’t
I’m sorry, but Kwity Paye isn’t 1st-round worthy for us, IMO. Maybe to a team like the Vikings, sure. But not for us.
That not a knock on the player, though I agree with Steve. We need to address other positions before we knock on Kwity’s door.
And as I said to Tim… if we take him, I’m a fan. I’d just rather get an elite talent, and I don’t see Kwity as ‘ELITE’. Good/solid, but not ‘ELITE’.

————-
And I hear you too, Stanger, but the NFL is yet another step up in game from the SEC. I fear DeVonta might get literally killed out there on Sundays. One ‘hospital ball’ over the middle of the field might end his career @ 170 pounds.
He doesn’t have a compact build at the time, he doesn’t plan on gaining any more weight (his words), and everybody says he has the frame to add more weight.
And don’t forget, late-hits happen. He can do all he can to protect his body (which is something he’s VERY good at), but all it takes is a ‘thumper’ (LB or S) to hit him late or the wrong way.
Somebody may say, “Well, it could happen to anybody out there!”. And that would be absolutely true. But do ya put odds on the 200-pounder being more resilient than the 170-pounder? I know I would!
I have the very same concerns. Makes him a risk, and the reason I’d go Chase over him. Still won’t complain if he ends up on the team though.
May 12 it is!

—————–
Yessir! Totally agreed. I’ll say this… I have this feeling (write it down if you must), that DeVonta is going to fall further than most think. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if he falls to R1P18.
I know it sounds like I’m on crack right now, but his weight issues are going to be of concern to many GMs. Not guaranteeing anything either, I’m just sayin’…
I honestly believe that Waddle goes before DeVonta… and the Eagles will take him @ R1P12.
I want to ensure that nobody is taking me the wrong way: DeVonta is a STUD!!! If we land him, GRAND!!!
It’s just that I foresee his weight being problematic at the NFL level, and teams will likely shy away from taking him in the top-10… including us. I could be completely wrong (wouldn’t be the first time!), but I’d sooner take him @ R1P18 (where he may still be available) than @ R1P6.
Think he’s more likely to go top 12-13 than be there at #18, but been wrong many times before. And some highly touted wide outs do tend to slide each year.
He’d be our slot day 1, 60 or so catches for 900 yards 6 tds.
He dominated the championship game first half like no receiver has before.
Think sometimes the BS in the media gets embedded in people’s subconscience, not saying you do just how it works
I hear ya too, Steve. I just fear for his life on Sundays… where the players are bigger, faster, and hit much harder.
I can see the argument for Smith struggling to get off the line
He didn’t in college, but even in the SEC, they don’t jam receivers at the line, like they do in the nfl
But once Smith gets past that – forget it!
I don’t think his size is going to be a huge impediment. Teams with more physical DBs might give him a hard time, and every time they try to slow him down by getting physical at the line with him, they are going to be playing a dangerous game
If I didn’t love Chase so much, you might get tired of me Oinking about Smith. I think he can really be special in the nfl
I figure if the jam on the line can shut him down that every team in the SEC would have been doing it to him. Not like they didn’t know his size. More worried about the broken toy factor.
^
I think at the college level, more often than not, teams play what teams play, with less adjustments based on who they are playing
The SEC is more advanced but I doubt schools like Vanderbilt, Missouri and Kentucky schemed to take away Smith.
You get into the post season and the Alabama v LSU, UF and UG and it turns more into a chess match but at some level it’s more let’s see who’s the most talented
That’s just my fanboy observations
Probably have to ask coaches if that’s true
What the heck do I know? Don’t even watch much college. So just logic to me. Jam that little guy had to be tried. Talking Smith and Bama.
Agreed that DeVonta could be very special in the NFL. I just think teams may be hesitant to draft him early, regarding his weight. Whoever gets him is going to have fun with him. That kid seems really intelligent, has an outstanding work ethic, and is going to be electrifying on Sundays.
He’ll be playing slot primarily, so…
That seems like a good way to minimize that
But I think if you draft a receiver that high you want him to play inside and outside too
So it seems I’ve run the gammit on RBs this Draft, and as it pertains to going in the 1st round. The vast majority of so-called ‘experts’/pundits/draftniks seem to believe that NO RBs should be taken in the 1st round this year.
How do you guys feel about that? Should we take a RB @ R1P18, or should we wait until R2P4?
If you want one bad enough it’s OK to take him at 18.
Jets, Pitt, Atlanta, and Buffalo will all draft between our 2nd and 3rd.
Buffalo may copy what KC did last year
Buffalo SCARES me, in taking a top-RB @ R1P30. That would NOT be good! I’d love to beat them to the punch.
If no RBs go in the first round then pretty clear where we should take one. But then thinking edge at #18 anyhow. If the run on them starts after #18 more than willing to pop up though. Might cost us our 3rd.
I agree, Stanger. If the run starts after @ R1P18 (assuming we didn’t take a RB there), I’m willing to trade up, too.
You follow so much more than me, but am I right in there is top group of 3 RBs and we would like one of those?
BBM,
Yeah I’m a spoiled Cards fan. Our last WS win was 2011, and we made it but lost to the Redsox in 2013. Since then we’ve basically been a slightly above average team year after year, and only contended once or twice. We just can’t get our hitting and pitching to align. I just want to see a good run this year. I think the division will be tightly contested. I think the Pirates are the only bad team in the division (sorry, Stang).
It’s still really early, there are still about 19 months left in the baseball season, lol.
Offense taken…. here’s me talking to the other Bucs fan in my building.

^NO offense taken

————–
I say YES! Absolutely, IMO.
AND, IMO, I don’t think we’re looking for a ‘blazer’… Matt Breida, with all of his elite speed, didn’t help us much last year. I think we’re looking at ‘bruisers’ in either Najee Harris or Javonte Williams.
I think Travis Etienne (the 3rd of the top-3 RBs, IMO) would be a weak consolation prize, being we still don’t have a ‘brick-and-mortar’ O-Line.
MIND YOU, both Najee and Javonte are great receiving options, despite their brutal running-style… as is Etienne, but he’s not a bruiser.
ADDITIONALLY, if we’re to look at RB as pass-blockers, we want either Najee or Javonte… Etienne, not so much. This is a very important aspect of the RB position.
Thanks for the info. And sounds like you have a Top 2. Makes it tricky unless they overpay at #18 or we get lucky and/or bold.
You got it, Stanger!
There are several ways to get around having your WR get jammed at the LOS just by scheme and motion. I’m not concerned with Smith’s size at all. He may not want to, but I think he’ll put on some weight simply thru growth, nutrition and weight training at the professional level anyway. People get way too hyper critical about this stuff during the draft. It gets a little ridiculous.
Serious question, not even to challenge your thoughts… for I, too, LOVE DeVonta! That guy is incredible in my eyes!
How light is TOO light, so as to be an injury concern? Where does one draw the line and say, ‘Yeah… that might not end well at the NFL level’.
Can’t believe I’m this far behind my usual football schedule. The pandemic has been absolutely erratic in terms of having watched live, the shortened season, what’s more important, view-ability, etc, etc.
ANYWAY, I’m certain somebody here has brought his name up within the past few months. As your resident BALLHAWK(!!!) enthusiast, I’m endorsing Richie Grant, S, UCF to be a future Safety for us in the 2021 Draft.
Kid has the instincts of a natty STUD, he’s got the reflexes/athleticism to be somebody special, and he’s a local kid to boot. I’m trying to slot him to us in the right round/pick. STUD!!!
Yahoo’s Matt Harmon put the Phins seventh worse RB depth chart list. Same time seems he sorta likes us.

No. 7 – Miami Dolphins
Whether it was Myles Gaskin or Salvon Ahmed, the Dolphins got steady production from most of their unheralded backs in 2020. They could be tempted to get by on that cheap route again, or they could look at this as proof they built a great rushing ecosystem that a superior talent could maximize.
The Dolphins were reportedly interested in Aaron Jones before he re-signed with the Packers. So don’t be surprised if they use a Day 2 draft pick on a running back. They don’t have a ton of glaring roster holes but I would still be mildly surprised if they went with a luxury pick running back in Round 1.
My great conundrum is this: do we HOPE that either Najee or Javonte will be there for us @ R2P4, or will be go-getters?
YES, we ALL hope that we’ll get the pick of the litter @ R2P4, but is it likely? Likely not. Quite frankly, it’s driving me NUTS trying to figure it out!
I like my Denver trade, the more and more I ponder this! 😉
MF13,
First, there is no hitting in the NFL anymore. Most injuries usually come from twisting a knee, a guy taking a hit at the wrong angle or something like that. So, I’m not fearful of a big hit taking anybody out of a game. If it’s from a dirty hit, that can injure anybody. Second, the kid has played “small” his whole life, and guys like that learn how to play with bigger guys. They learn how to avoid contact. Smith is also fast enough that he can use his speed to avoid lots of contact. Lastly, he’s shown that he can play against bigger and stronger guys in college already. College CBs aren’t that much smaller than NFL CBs, so if he can do it in college….and really his whole life…I don’t understand why things would change that much at the professional level. He’s not an OL where you just ain’t getting it done if you weigh 230 pounds because mass matters.
***
So, how small would be too small? I don’t have a number, but it would have more to do with whether or not the guy has shown he can’t do it already. If he’d shown in college that his size truly was an impediment, I’d be cautious. Smith simply hasn’t done that. The kid has played lots of games and stayed healthy. I’d prefer Chase or Waddle myself but not because of Smith’s size.
***
Question for you: If he’s 180 in 2 or 3 years, does that make him less of a concern? I don’t know of too many 20-22 year old guys who don’t just naturally get bigger. 10 pounds is nothing with the sort of training he’ll be doing in the NFL.
I think that’s a pretty good rebuttal… thanks!
I’m not here to change hearts or minds, as I had when I was talking politics here (BAD M13!), LOL. I’m also not here to dictate thought. I enjoy the conversation, and I LEARN. I hope we ALL learn from one another.
Your question to me? Yes… I think it’s less a concern if he’s 180 in 2 or 3 years. I was wondering what your threshold may be, hence my original question to you. Methinks 170 is getting to the point of extreme risk, but that’s JMO. 180 seems to be on the ‘safer’ side, if you ask me.
I don’t want to see the kid get FUNKED UP, ya know?
MF13,
No worries. I’m not big on evaluating WRs because like I used to tell Jahn…they don’t matter much and mostly good for ignoring! Lol
***
I get folks worrying about his size. 170 is small, no doubt. I’d just be more concerned if I didn’t think he’d get a little bigger and he had issues in college. He’ll need to adjust a little because guys are definitely going to challenge him in the NFL, but I have a feeling he’s dealt with that his whole life. He’s not gonna be physically challenging guys all the way down the field and for catches. He’s gonna be using his speed and technique to get separation. Can he do it at the next level? We’ll see….but that’s no different than any other rookie.
Mark Clayton was 5′ 9″, 176 lbs.
What’s a few more inches and a few less pounds?
Clayton also played in a much more physical era of football compared to what we have today.
That’s a lot more compact than 6-1 166. Smith is very thin. But who knows maybe he can handle it.
MikeE,
I just started reading the newest Feist novel. Have you started liking it more? I’m about 100 pages in.
Are you on book 2, or the first of the Firemane series?
MikeE,
Sorry, I meant newest series. I just started book one.
NFL did a jersey rule change — wide receivers, defensive backs, tight ends, and linebackers can now wear single-digit numbers. Not just for kickers and QBs any more.
I saw him speak on NFLN today and he said if things fall a certain way and if a team calls with a good offer they’ll entertain it. So I think we head into the draft at #6.
https://www.si.com/nfl/dolphins/news/miami-dolphins-gm-chris-grier-breaks-down-draft-trades-and-why-he-might-not-be-done
“We had a number of teams call us, they were talking about coming up to 3,” Grier said. “We were comfortable being where we were and once we evaluated and then obviously San Francisco was very aggressive. John (Lynch) was great dealing with. He was very open and honest, transparent, and as we worked through it, we thought that with the offers, as we talked through it and once they gave us the offer that we were comfortable with taking, we decided it was important for us as well to get back into that top 10.
“And so once it looked like San Francisco could happen, we kind of reached out to a few teams just gauging whether they would move or not and Philadelphia was a very good partner working with. Howie (Roseman) did a good job with us in terms of what we were looking for and what we were looking to do and I give them a lot of credit. There’s a lot of teams that wanted to wait and wanted to wait and see. It takes guts to make a move like that, so I give San Francisco and Philadelphia both credit for doing it.”
Further vindication for Tim
It shows they want someone early things would have to fall a certain way (unplanned and bad) for Grier to want to backup at this point it would seem.
Son, this is was what I was referring to and trying to tell ORob how it went down. The Eagles weren’t going to move from #6 to #12 for chump change. It was a trade all three teams were cool with. That’s it.
Sounds like a 3-team trade with the Dolphins pulling all the levers to me. LOL!
Yeah Grier orchestrated it for sure.
I think our defense can utilize tweener type OLB/DE because of the multiple looks we use. I also feel that a lot of those types of guys in this draft all have some pros and cons and will need development. There aren’t any elite edge guys in this draft but there is some good depth. The draft overall doesn’t have much elite prospects but there is quite a bit of depth.
This weather is bizarre, it feels like it’s November. Yesterday I was wearing shorts. Today not so much.
And today I am wearing shorts
Crazy! LOL
I’m watching the Mets playing in Chicago and they’re all wearing sweatshirts and jackets.
Damn Russkies
It snowed on and off here today.
I heard a lot of the midwest got snow too.
I wear shorts every day unless a wedding or funeral
Come visit me in January and we’ll put that to a test 😂
Last wedding and two funerals I wore shorts … dresser shorts but ..
Dressier
I’ll visit you in July and probably need pants
YOU possibly would yes lol. Today is 55 F and warm to us. You likely would put pants on 🤪
Nah 55 is shorts for me
Then ya’d be fine in July. Lol
So Justin Fields is dealing with Epilepsy… not trying to be a dick or prejudiced, would this drop him down boards ??
Wow first I heard of that.
Apparently hereditary, and his family members have grown out of it
Seems like it might, funny this comes out a week ahead of the draft I hadn’t heard this prior
If he’s had it his whole life and managed it, I think that might satisfy some teams
They actually used the word managing , as opposed to dealing with
Who’s up for a dive
The shark’s name is Deep Blue, they said she might be pregnant at this stage. This video has been around for awhile.
Shouldn’t they know if she was pregnant by now?
How long are shark pregnancies?
5 months to three years apparently
That’s what they thought then, this video is about two years old. They don’t know much about great white sharks breeding. But there is a migratory route on the East coast where they believe great whites swim from Florida up the coast and possibly have birth in NJ waters on their way up to NE.
How do you test for shark pregnancy?
Very carefully. LOL
What about a trade down to 9 hopefully get a wr, then use the comp to move ahead of Buffalo from 36 and take an RB, if 2 are gone?
They have mentioned it a few times and is streaming across NFLN bottom banner … they aren’t making it sound like a big issue … but I’d be scared to spend a top 10 pick
I hope he doesn’t get Tunsiled
Could make things different at the top
The thing about Pitts is he catches everything, no drops this year
From every receiver position.
Could be a non issue
Per the report, Fields has not been affected by the condition on the football field and that his symptoms have been less frequent in recent years. Other members of Fields’ family have outgrown the condition in their 20s and doctors believe that could be the case for Fields as well.
Again , I’m not trying to be a dick but if you were the Jets would ya take him ? Or would this info not sway you ?
I don’t want him going to SF, because he may be really good out of the chute.
Think Jones or Lance will be slower to succeed
Can’t have that fir SF 😌
Epilepsy expresses itself in many forms and in differing degrees. Some are more manageable than others. It’s also one of the conditions where medical marijuana is an approved treatment.
Doesn’t sound like it’s an issue to me, but someone leaked his medical records. That’s all kinda wrong in my book!
Also illegal to leak medical information
Major HIPPA violation!
Beware whoever did it.
What do you guys think of the D. J. Fluker signing? This new regime seems to really like the big boys on the OL over the smaller more athletic guys.
Meh. His best days are behind him
Has he been fading in recent years?
Yes he has gone from a full time in San Diego to a part time starter in Baltimore
Oh no, you just opened the door again.
What door is that?
Lol!
If he’s fired up someone will have to play their ass off to win a spot from him starter or backup, a vet and great camp competition win win for us.
Fields may be the odd man out anyway. If stej go Wilson and 9ers truly do like Mac Jones.
Regarding the shark video – what you’re really wondering is, “What does Ocean Ramsey look like?”
Yeah, I was!
She’s got her shark wetsuit on.
When I was watching the swimmer with the shark, I was thinking how graceful and beautiful the movements were thinking it was a woman.
WOW!
She’s really pretty.
She’s really pretty but she’s got balls touching a shark that damn big
Yeah, I kept wondering if a shark that big had quick lateral movement. Don’t they attack more like a torpedo. She was lateral or side by side mostly
Yeah great whites attack in a stealth like fashion from below. But if they’re not feeding they’re not that aggressive as we see in this video.
Even the shark had a boner
And it was a female shark
LOL @ Ken

Hey, ORob!
I LOL….
Okay so did ORob say something about the big uglies?
Wait for it….
Okay I guess it’s a mystery. LOL
Would anyone be bummed if we ended up with Chase at #6 and Harris at #18?
I’d be rejoicing
My long time friend who’s also a fan has wanted that combo since January. He’d skip through the streets. LOL
Drafting Najee is like adding another receiver on the field. He’s a great receiver. That’s why I think he’s being under-valued. He’s a 3 down back with some sweet skills.
If that happens I’d say Edge and OL in the 2nd.
If anyone was bummed about that I volunteer to punch them in the face
LOL
No, but our defense sucked last year. Our defense was a mirage.
I think Pitts and Parsons fills holes on O and D….balance.
That’s my compromise. Lol!
^fill
If it went like that then I’d trade up from 36 and make sure I got Najee as well
They didn’t suck but they need more speed in the front 7 for sure. We also added some good players in the offseason in McKinney, Butler and Jenkins. Not a big speed upgrade but some stoutness.
Been quiet on the Deshaun front I wonder if someone makes a deal for him next week
I don’t think he’s going to play this year.
Why?
That is the question.
Randy – Both books of the Firemane series start off slow. Stick with it, both are good and worth the wait. I wish he could start off better, but he gets you eventually.
I like Zaven Collins in the 2nd as our first defensive player in the Chase/Harris 1st scenario. He is a multiple LB/Edge guy. He can play anywhere at LB. He also comes off as a smart, hard working type guy. Him or Joe Tryon, very similar players.
Forget OL in the 2nd, at #50 I’d go back to LB/Edge with maybe Joseph Ossai. We already have a lot of young OL with some vets. Maybe go there in the 3rd, 5th or 7th then target the June cuts.
I know, I know, I’m posting by myself. LOL
LT Jackson
LG Flowers
OC Skura
RG Kindley
RT Hunt/Fluker/Davis
TE Gesicki
WR Parker
WR Fuller
WR Chase
QB Tua
RB Harris
That would be quite the different look.
Add in Creed Humphrey or Josh Myers at C and it would be complete. Still nice either way!

too much candy.
a man that’s 166 lbs cannot hold up to the beating of the NFL, that’s why Grant is always injured, or so i read.
Grant’s also punt and kick off returner so greater risk of injury.
I think Smith is their target regardless of his weight
If you take Sewell at 6, you can then get your candy at 18 and take Harris.
i think they would compliment each other,
sewell is a great run blocker
narrowing it down,
there’s 6 players after #3,
2 qbs
pitts
chase
sewell
smith.
eliminating the 2 qbs, one of the 4 will be a dolphin if we pick @ #6
between pitts sewell & chase only one will be left @ #6
it’s very likely atl takes pitts, cincy will get either chase or sewell.
that leaves one of them and smith.

________________________________
you have to wonder how good this group will be this year, how well is flores & co developing these guys? that is a big key to success in 21
His track record is good so far
i think Hunt stays at tackle, they used him there last year and put davis at guard, probably did that to develop him for the position.
Part of development is coaching on game day.
You develop players, then on Sunday you put them in position to succeed.
Watched a video of our D, they asked who is blitzing on this play, with 6 guys at the LOS?
They showed Goff, Herbert and others confused into turnovers.
Mr Howard, Great season, you owe a lot to Flores for putting you in situations to succeed.
Anyways, most of our big plays came from the scheme as they do in NE.
Think Tua is the guy they’d still take, if the 2020 draft were today, because, sans the long ball, he can excel like Brady with quick passes, maybe better.
Quick accurate passes = move chains = points = unstoppable.
Tua takes the next step and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
We’ll know this year, if Tua is who they think he is, me…no reason he can’t, but he’s got a lot of work to do, in the classroom and out
I agree Hunt at Tackle, but only if we don’t draft a top OT.
Extremely hard to have a good rookie season at OT, especially with a rookie QB.
Think Flores is responsible for Goff being in Detroit😝
i hope i’m wrong about Tua, and i very well may be.
Based on last year there’s reason for concern.
If he went 6th, he may have been Rosened to another team, Flores put him in position to have a 6-3 record.
This year Flores will give him everything he needs to be a playoff QB so we’ll know soon
quick get the ball out of your hands passing is great, but you cannot simply do that the entire game. DC’s will make you beat them with your weakness.
press coverage, stop the short passes.
In Tua’s case make him hold the ball longer to jam him up.
Tua has to stretch the field to be successful. he has to throw over that top of what’s in front of him.
Yes, that’s what he has to overcome to be our brady
If Pennington could throw long no reason Tua can’t. Chad was 6’3″ but had the noodlist of arms. Throwing quick with timing and accuracy will be key
i’m sure Tua can throw the ball deep, what i’m not sure about is can he do that with obstacles in front of him.

ORob, I was waiting for you to say that we could go water skiing in Miami instead of Devil’s Island, LOL.
Seal island skiing is the best, however this year i’m taking Krishna!
sorry
Ah, yes, Seal Island it was… my bad. You and I have had that running joke for some time now, bud! LOL
Give Krishna my regards! LOL
Channel Islands CA, where the population of sea lions is massive.
Best fishing trip ever there, on a 2 day trip, 10-20lb tuna on every cast, with sea lions fighting for your catch and great whites lurking in the distance
i have some special mullet paste he can use as sun block.
Steve, that’s a beautiful picture you just painted. Sounds like another great place to go water skiing, too! 🙂
mavericks beach near SF is where the great whites hang out
Yup, and they are nasty. Slightly larger than most around the world.
BBL…
Lol, Brian Miller has an article about us trading with Denver, then Philly, then Washington and taking Parsons at 18 and Bateman at 20.
Not the worst thing we can do and it really sets us up for future picks and 2nd and 4th rd picks this year
With all the QB hysteria, the top part of the 2nd round is full of 1st round worthy guys. I would LOVE to get another pick like Denver’s #40 (36, 40, 50 can garner, with 1st rd guys, 5 guys capable of starting).
I really don’t see ATL taking QB or Pitts. I think they take Surtain… and Cincy will do the sensible thing and take Sewell.
So at #6 all the guys we love are still available… Pitts, Chase, Smith, Waddle, Parsons…
If Denver wants to move up for the 4th QB (like Mac, who is safer than Lance) , or even if Denver wants Pitts, that leaves only Detroit and Carolina with 3 WRs and Parsons still on the board. At #9 worst case we’d still have our choice of Parson or an elite WR AND that #40 pick.
This is the ideal scenario, for me. 3 picks in the first 18 of 2nd round increases our odds of adding talent that sticks.
The only problem in this scenario is “why would Denver want to move up”? I don’t like any of the scenarios where we trade back past #9.
Rhino — if ATL goes Surtain at #4 and Cincy Sewell at #5 your horm really is magic. I’d smile all the way to #6 with just one of those.
And Denver would move up for a QB.
Brian is always good for a mistake or 2 in his articles, he has us pick at 56
Sounds like a stress free Thursday night for Dolfans
😲
I missed any discussion that may have taken place about the Fluker signing. We did a major remodel of house (working from home last summer I saw what bad shape we had let it get to lol)… so after 6 weeks of paper covered floors and living on the patio, it’s been clean up time and bringing everything back inside.
I scrolled and didn’t see much on Fluker …
1. we got our “Alabama lineman” LOL
2. rated much better as run blocker than pass protection … a run game that can’t be stopped even when defense knows its coming is another way to ‘protect Tua’
3. depth signing who can also mentor young guys
4. most likely reason … filling out the roster as if there isn’t a draft this year, which allows us to go BPA and then let these guys compete for the jobs (Fuller signing for a similar reason).
Think Fluker signing was a somewhat replacement for Wilson. Better player with similar pay and no comp
AND, wants to play football. lol
