ROUND 1 – Disappointing . . .

Sorry Dolphins fan, we tried to look awful smart with pre draft maneuvering, making two synchronized trades with the 49ers to move out of #3 and move back to #12, and then the trade with the Eagles to get back up to #6. Did we get the best TE? Nope! Did we get the best WR? Nope! Jaylen Waddle is a good player, but the moves that we made don’t add up to the player we selected. We may have been able to get Waddle at #12. He will help our offense and be the player we hoped Tedd Ginn Jr. was for us. A dynamic return man and a a guy who will take quick hitters and turn them into big plays. He can be like Albert Wilson was for us in 2018 before he got injured. We can go back and forth about where Waddle would have been taken, but being at #6 and ending up with Waddle is deflating. Sorry, it just is. Grier and Flores get no pass.

With pick #18, I’m telling you guys, I knew we were taking Phillips. In our Mock Draft I picked Phillips because I felt he was the player we want here for our defense. I said it again last night. Although I was right, it didn’t make it any easier because I really wanted Najee Harris. We need an upgrade at RB, and if we somehow don’t end up with Javonte Williams, we will have failed again. I feel like we can have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds in every draft and still find a way to fuck it up. Quality over quantity. Right now I feel like we’re just getting quantity.

In our offense, Jaylen Waddle will be featured often. Tua Tagovailoa likes to get rid of the bill quickly and Waddle will be like Julian Edelman was to Tom Brady. He will help our offense. He will upgrade our return game because although Grant is electric, he’s so questionable about actually fielding punts and kick returns. His hands are suspect. Waddle is much more sure handed. I just don’t see a generational talent in him, and 2 guys went before him that definitely might be, Kyle Pitts and Ja’Marr Chase. We were at #3 and could have had either. This is my qualm. Everyone wants more picks, not me, I want great players, and I’m not sure we got ANY last night. We could have, we didn’t!

Jaelan Phillips is a Flores type player. He knows what he’s doing out there. When Grier took Charles Harris because he had a quick step, he did, but he had nothing after that. Phillips is the opposite. He’s a technician with a bevy of pass rush moves and he’s athletic enough to back that up. He’s fast, and he’s strong, and he’s very athletic. 6’5 260 and ran a 4.56 40, 36″ vertical, 10.5 foot broad jump, 4.12 20 yard shuttle, and 21 reps of 225 at his pro day. His Junior season and last season in Miami, he posted 8 sacks and 15.5 TFL in a shortened season. He’s the real deal, and we need the pass rush help, but we lost out on RB Najee Harris.

We got good players, players that will help our team be better next season, but we had a chance at elite. Pitts or Chase could be elite. When all is said and done, Waddle and Phillips might have very good careers, but Pitts and Chase could be HOFers. Time will tell. I try to be fair, I don’t want to be a rah-rah pom pom waving writer. I want to say it like I feel it, so I did. Go get Javonte Williams. IDGAF if we have to trade to pick #33, get him, because we need him!

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Dieter just got moved to Center

  22. Marinofan13's avatar Marinofan13 says:

I guess Adam Shaheen (who we traded for) and Chris Myarick are chopped liver. Either that, or we’re looking to replace our only blocking TE in Durham Smythe… with a TE who can’t block very well. OR, we’re looking to replace Mike Gesicki.

    I’m confounded, y’all.

  23. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Instead of being baffled try to think about why we drafted these players. Also who we signed in FA. Added to the team we already had. How do you think we want to play?

  24. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

So Hunter backs up Gesicki and comes in for smythe when we want 12 personnel with more catch ability from the 2nd TE spot.

It’s a depth and multiple signing

  25. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

He’s a complete TE, looks a little like Kelce

  30. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Rich Eisen has been kind of annoying tonight, at least to me

  31. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
I think we want to play a RB/TE centric offense like NE did for years. Throw short or to the flat and seam and let your shifty RB/TEs get YAC and then every now and then throw it deep. What is today’s ball control offense, kinda.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yep! Our Co-OC’s as unusual as that might be, are RB and TE coaches. Flores wants to be great on defense. Run the ball, play defense and STs, and set up big passing plays.

Think about 12 personnel with Fuller and Waddle wide. What does the defense do? Play man with one deep safety and 8 in the box against the 2-TE, or drop 4 and play 7 on 7? It’s about creating mismatches. Run/Pass options. That was why Tom Brady has been so successful in his career. He executes the game plan with the players that make it work. He is a great game manager. He doesn’t make a lot of mistakes and he’s a gamer.

  32. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Listen up all you guys who are pissed-off at our Fullback situation. HUNTER LONG will join the Fins backfield on some 3rd & short situations. He’ll be in there, ostensibly, to block or go out on a short pass route??? – – – NOOO — he’s gonna do a Larry Csonka impression and run over a surprised D-Lineman for a FIRST DOWN, MIAMI!!!

REMEMBER, you heard it here FIRST!!

NOW we can all go to sleep with big smiles on our faces, right??

  35. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Holland is a good prospect who might blossom into a good NFL player.

He comes with notable credentials: He is the first Oregon player to lead the team in interceptions two consecutive seasons since perennial Pro Bowl player Jairus Byrd did it in 2006 and 2007.

  37. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I think we forgot what it’s like to have 1 pick per round at about 20th, when after the 1st 5 rounds we drafted 1 starter and a bunch of depth guys.

This year we got our WR, Edge, RT starters and soon to be starter at S and maybe TE, if Gesicki doesn’t re-sign

  38. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Javonte Williams and Denver jumping us to get him was a bummer.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s not fantasy satisfying or pro bowl type stuff, but what if we like these 3 by committee if our blocking improves?

We could have drafted 2 of the top 3 RBs if we wanted to but didn’t. Hmmm…

  44. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

i think they wanted a more rounded T.E. in the form of a gronk, a guy who can block on running plays and catch also.

they don’t want to advertise their play calling with a player like gesicki, when he’s in there they are passing because he cant block.

that gives the opposing D an advantage

  45. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

When you play a lot of man coverage, you need a lot of depth in the secondary. We’re friggin loaded. 🙂

  48. David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

we didnt get Pitts, but got Hunter Long

hes not nearly the athlete that Pitts is, but Long has incredible hands, led the nation in catches for TE last year

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I wouldn’t call his hands great by any stretch

      • David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

then how did he lead the nation without having great hands?

How would You make an argument, that other TE have better hands, when they did not catch as many passes as Long did?

  49. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I dig this guy’s view on what it’s all about. Reporters questions continue to be goofy. LOL

  50. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Sometimes the logic and conceptual thinking is just terrifying. Wow!

    • David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

agreed, maybe some think that TE can lead the nation with catches, with fishing nets superglued to their heads , because their hands are SO bad, lol

i think its more to do with extreme negativity, and people think they know it all, yet have proven they know very little

some folks live their lives in extreme fear and negativity 24/7, they lack cajones

i already knew the negative comments would begin before the draft, because some think they are more knowledgable than actual NFL GMs,
      it happens annually, lol

      • David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

i was not specifically talking of Steve having no knowledge, he was just late nite arguing, because of disappointment we did not get Pitts at TE instead

im fine with him, cant say the same for the GM wannabe tua hating, pillow loving guy

  51. Ken's avatar Ken says:

The whining on not drafting a center is surprising. It’s not like we don’t have 2 on the roster

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Well, one was just let go by one of the NFL’s best organizations, the Ravens, and the other has played zero games at C for us, so I do feel like we need a C, still!

  52. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I get being disappointed about not getting one of the top RBs but the FO was obviously okay with it and it appears to never have been the plan whether they were correct in the plan or not will play itself out this season

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Ok, because they deserve so much credit on the way they’ve handled the RB position so far. Draft Gaskin in RD 7 in ’19. Pick up Salvon Ahmed as an UDFA. Trade for Matt Breida for a 5th RD pick. Sign Jordan Howard to a 2 YR $10M contract. So Jordan Howard gets 28 carries and Matt Breida 59, all so underwhelming. While Gaskin and Ahmed showed they were capable, both are change of pace backs, not bellcow backs. Malcolm Brown had all of 100 carries last season. So lets just throw a bunch of nothing out there and hope for the best! We want our QB to get better, get him an upgrade at RB.

      • David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

if you review the film from last season, Breida had alot of big plays rushing the ball and making catches

if You watch Breida from the season before that, he took the niners to the championship game

not all of the running backs are not underwhelming IMO, they dont seem to get a fair shot

if Breida was good enough to take the niners to the championship game, why wasnt he the starter for a team that has not won a playoff game in 2 decades? IMO

      • David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

two nots, my bad, going for coffee, lol

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Ahmed and Gaskins have both looked good at times the FO clearly feels better about them than most of this blog I am truly not sure if they are the answer or not but I don’t think our situation at RB is as desperate as some make it out to be

  53. David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

the fins drafted a duck for safety, dont think anyone here saw that one coming

however, he was the best safety in the draft, and the first one off the board.
with the AFC east bringing in offensive talent, its imperative the Fins can rush the passer, and have a top secondary also

they brought in Phillips and the duck to bolster the pass defense

  54. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

But let’s draft another TE because we only have 5 on the roster

    • David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

we drafted an OL and have like 10-12 on the roster already

we drafted a WR, but have like 7 already.

its impossible to draft someone that we dont already have several on the roster

  55. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert both had more carries and Mostert had the most yardage in 2019 for the Niners. Mostert had a higher YPC and higher YPR than Brieda. Get the facts straight. As far as Breida here, he must have pissed Flores off somehow, because he didn’t get many opportunities here.

  56. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

BTW – Breida is gone, so yet another RB failure here.

  57. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Waaaaaahhh….I didn’t get my fanboy crush!!!!!

Here’s a good piece on draft evaluation and philosophy of the guy Flores learned from.

  58. David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

    here is a suggestion, lol

the Dolphins won ten games last year, which is ten games more than every single poster here.

is it POSSIBLE to wait and see what the DOlphins can do this year. before giving up on the season, midway through the draft?

  59. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

  60. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Ken – I watched every game. Both Gaskin and Ahmed are fine until they meet opposition, and then they go down. Neither guy can break a wrap up tackle or carry a defender for a couple of yards. I watched every game, they get hit, they go down. I was hoping for an upgrade. I think Gaskin is a pretty damn good receiver, better than I though or expected. Malcolm Brown runs with more authority but he’s nothing special. I was hoping for special.

  61. David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

Mike, about Breida, hes a very capable back, watch the film

for the ones that didnt see him in san fran, he had 623 yards rushing in 2019, with a 5.1 yard average, and made alot of big plays that helped the team go the Championship game.

thats far better than any of the Dolphins rb did last season, why did we not get similar production from Breida ? its NOT that he is incapable of it

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

He didn’t do it here, but this statement corroborates my feeling that our RB corps is inadequate as currently constituted.

      • David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

i think its the terrible run blocking in Miami, watch the vid of him at san fran

  62. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Does anyone (Besides Sonny) remember we have Jacoby Brisket on the roster? I actually forgot

  63. David Collins's avatar David Collins says:
  64. David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

Mike, agreed Breida didnt do it here

so if a man has talent one season, but not the next, and only thing changed was the team, then the team let Breida down, not the other way around

we needed better blocking, and the OL injuries were a part of that

  65. David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

watch the highlights on Breida, its mostly SF highlights of course

but he DID show talent, and its easy to see some good run blocking goin on, the Fins need to block better for the run, to be more effective at it, its not the backs IMO

also 2 years ago, he had over 800 yards with a 5.3 yard average, excellent but not elite numbers

but again, far better than any production the fins had last season

  66. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

i can’t wait to see jalean phillips coming off the edge!

  67. David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

Breida has a 80 yard TD run in the above video, where he outruns the planet, scores with 30 yards of open space behind him, while waving goodbye , hes FAST

  68. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

the safety we got looks like a big hitter.

  69. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

we did add a tackle, putting him in the mix adds depth, along with brown should improve our running game.

    • David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

this is the orob i can talk too, good analysis

not because i agree, but because it feels genuine, keep it real bud

  70. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

    we have 3 more picks, 156, 231 & 258.
can’t wait to see what we do with them, could still bring in a RB.

    • David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

i think the fins may bring in a RB also, with another OL, and backup LB/special teams guy

  71. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Well, with Flores and Grier, I guess it is pointless to lobby for players in the draft who we like because it is obvious we are not on the same page as them. I guess I will take one last pointless stab at it. lol I think we still need to upgrade RB, meaning Laird. Like the dude a lot but he is what he is. With all the DB’s we have we don’t need him to play ST.

Next 3 I like are Michael Carter, Kenneth Gainwell and Demetric Felton but they will be gone by #156. I don’t see us using anymore draft capital to trade up unless we trade a player and 156 to move up.

Chubba Hubbard may be there at 156 but I would pass. He’s a fumbler (7 fumbles lost last 2 years).

I am also not very interested in the small quick waterbugs in Jarrett Patterson and Javian Hawkins. They are small RB’s who aren’t a receiving threat and can’t block. Only waterbug size RB I like is Pooka Williams. He is very elusive, fast and a very good receiver. But, he is the smallest, like Grantman size.

So, if we were to take a RB at #156, it would have to be Kylin Hill for me. He is 5’11 215 and a very good receiving back though he does not have a top end gear. Dude plays hard though.

Next one for me would be Piggy’s guy. Stevie Scott III. He is Najee size at 6’2 231.

So, for me, at #156 or trade back a little for Kylin Hill or Pooka Williams. Or, Stevie Scott III at #231.

  72. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Michale carter, chuba Howard, Kylie hill and Kenneth gainwell are still out there

  73. David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

i prefer Stevie Scott, maybe because i love powerbacks running over defenders, lol

he would be excellent in red zone and short yard situations, we dont currently have a back on the roster with that kind of power

  74. David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

    Deonte Brown, G, Alabama (6-3, 364 pounds)

Brown has a massive frame and uses it well to engulf defenders in the running game. He’s made to be a downhill road-grader.

if the Fins bring this guy in, we have a running game BEHIND him, lol

  75. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

BBM, Kylin Hill looks to fit the mold of this regimes version of a RB, i forgot about Laird, he’s a stud!

  76. David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

NFL Draft prospects 2021: Best players still available for Day 3
(Rankings reflect original positions on Sporting News’ big board of top 100 overall players.)

    39. Dylan Moses, ILB, Alabama (6-3, 235 pounds)

Moses picked up where he left off in 2019 after a knee injury wiped out all of last season and took away his chance to be a surefire first-rounder in 2020. Moses has everything you want in an inside linebacker for a 3-4 or 4-3 with his range, instincts, speed and quickness.

    47. Brevin Jordan, TE, Miami (6-3, 245 pounds)

Jordan channels some of Pitts’ abilities as a dynamic pass-catcher with fine speed, quickness, athleticism and route-running. He is a willing blocker who can grow in that area with more bulk.

    56. Tylan Wallace, WR, Oklahoma State (5-11, 193 pounds)

Wallace is a good route-running possession type made for the outside with occasional big-play burst.

    58. Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, USC (6-1, 195 pounds)

Brown is a tough, quick inside receiver in the JuJu Smith-Schuster mold of working the slot well.

    59. Michael Carter, RB, North Carolina (5-7, 202 pounds)

Carter is an explosive runner who bursts into open field often because of ability to see favorable running lanes and quickly decide to hit them.

    60. Trey Smith, G, Tennessee (6-5, 330 pounds)

Smith is a strong interior blocker who uses his hands and feet to consistently win in the running game.

    61. Jay Tufele, DT, USC (6-3, 315 pounds)

Tufele is athletic and quick for his size but could get better overall with improved technique.

    63. Quincy Roche, EDGE, Miami (6-3, 245 pounds)

Roche’s quickness and athleticism sets up him to be an effective pass rush-first outside linebacker in a 3-4.

    65. Hamsah Nasirildeen, S, Florida State (6-3, 213 pounds)

Nasirildeen can fit any scheme with his size to come up to use his power against the run and also has the quickness for versatile coverage.

    66. Chris Rumph II, EDGE, Duke (6-3, 235 pounds)

Rumph is a smart, experienced, technically sound pass rusher who line up as either a 4-3 end or 3-4 outside linebacker.

    68. Hamilcar Rashed Jr., EDGE, Oregon State (6-3, 245 pounds)

Rashed plays with high energy and is relentless with his quickness. He just needs some polish with his pass rush and some rounding out against the run.

    71. Deonte Brown, G, Alabama (6-3, 364 pounds)

Brown has a massive frame and uses it well to engulf defenders in the running game. He’s made to be a downhill road-grader.

    73. Tyler Shelvin, DT, LSU (6-3, 362 pounds)

Shelvin is what you would expect to have that massive, powerful frame, a big-time asset against the run but offering little in the pass rush.

    74. Daviyon Nixon, DT, Iowa (6-3, 305 pounds)

Nixon is a quick and explosive interior disruptor who uses his hands and feet well for rare inside pass-rush juice.

    76. Kenneth Gainwell, RB, Memphis (5-11, 191 pounds)

Gainwell is a quick, nimble runner who provides good versatility, made to be effective in zone-blocking schemes and with strong receiving skills.

    77. Shaun Wade, CB, Ohio State (6-1, 194 pounds)

Wade is an active playmaker but his speed and quickness are better suited for inside coverage.

    Getty Images
    80. Paris Ford, S, Pittsburgh (5-11, 190 pounds)

Ford is another versatile zone safety made for either spot because of his range in coverage and physicality in run support.

    83. Tommy Togiai, DT, Ohio State (6-2, 300 pounds)

He’s a powerful and nasty run stopper who uses his footwork well and is helped by a strong hand punch.

    85. Cameron McGrone, LB, Michigan (6-1, 232 pounds)

McGrone has great range and is very active from sideline-to-sideline, balanced in getting around vs. the run and in coverage. He projects as a starting middle.

    90. Dazz Newsome, WR, North Carolina (5-11, 190 pounds)

He’s a technically sound slot receiver in the Jarvis Landry mold with some good big-play burst after the catch.

    BIGGEST NFL DRAFT STEALS:
    Round 4 | Round 5 | Round 6 | Round 7

    91. Jabril Cox, LB, LSU (6-3, 233 pounds)

Cox is versatile to do anything needed on the second level in different coverages and makes up a lot of ground fast.

    94. Ar’Darius Washington, S, TCU (5-8, 178 pounds)

Despite his undersized frame, Washington is highly active with a lot of range for inside coverage with some Tyrann Mathieu-like traits.

    95. Seth Williams, WR, Auburn (6-2, 224 pounds)

Williams is made to be a tough possession matchup outside with some field-stretching ability but stands out in the red zone.

    96. Tamorrion Terry, WR, Florida State (6-4, 203 pounds)

Terry has appeal as a home-run hitter for the outside who creates matchup problems because of his size.

    97. Rhamondre Stevenson, RB, Oklahoma (6-0, 227 pounds)

Stevenson is a powerful downhill run ideal to pound between the tackles and finish drives in the red zone. He also has the quickness and elusiveness to evade would-be tacklers.

    98. Sage Surratt, WR, Wake Forest (6-3, 215 pounds)

Surratt is an outstanding physical receiver with underrated big-play ability who can line up outside or inside.

    99. Marlon Williams, WR UCF (6-0, 222 pounds)

Williams has an intriguing skill set as a physical receiver with enough agility to be effective in the slot, like the Colts’ Michael Pittman Jr.

    100. Richard LeCounte III, S, Georgia (5-11, 190 pounds)

LeCounte uses all his physical skills well in coverage but needs some work to be trusted consistently against the run.

We spend so much time looking at so many players I think we’ll always feel a sense of loss (it’s a by product of greed for so many players). lol

For all we know, getting Phillips in rd 1 could have triggered a specific plan for 2nd rd… thus Jevon Holland at #36.

I remember a short conversation with Piggy about Xavien Howard pick “from a team that gave up 40+ pts a game, mostly through the air” but clearly FO saw the talent that perhaps was not being used properly.
Our top pick in 2nd rd is a spot where we seem to have found really good fits over the last few years.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

You see it all the time

Reviewing prospects and looking at them and ranking them is just about trying to understand what we might do come draft day and it’s wrong. Going to be wrong 90% of the time.

It’s really not a prediction about what the picks will do

Obviously players that go higher are usually more successful

But all these mocks we do are just fun. You can’t take them too seriously. I try to avoid shittng on too many prospects bc there’s just a lot of factors and it’s embarrassing when a player you said sucks a]ends up being very good

I do think those prospects we coveted like Williams and Harris are going to have good careers. It doesn’t mean the direction we went isn’t best for us.

Holland and Eichenberg are probably going to start for us. I like the fact that we may have solved the ambiguity we have on the OL if we move Hunt inside and have a true tackle

And our secondary is stacked . 2 years ago I watched games and didn’t know the names of our dbs. Now we have young players like Holland, Iggy and Brandon Jones to go along with all stars like Howard and Byron Jones

  82. David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

this from draftkings,,,, (i love draftkings stock also, lol)

Kenny Gainwell hasn’t played all that much running back in his career, as he was a quarterback in high school and only started one full season in college before opting out in 2020 due to COVID-19. But, the fact that he’s poised to go as a Top 10 back in the NFL Draft tell you a little something about his skill set already.

In his one full season as a red-shirt freshman, Gainwell rushed 231 times for 1,459 yards (6.3 ypc) and 13 touchdowns. But that’s not all! He also caught 51 passes for 610 yards and three more touchdowns.

    Scouting Report
Gainwell has a great burst, coupled with balance and agility. He ran a 4.42 40 and that shows up on the field, as he’s able to get to top speed in a hurry. He can make defenders miss and outrun them, but he’s not afraid to take on contact at 5’11”, 201 lbs. His ability to stay on his feet after contact and make extra yards will entice NFL coaches.

The best part of his game as far as his NFL and fantasy outlook is in his receiving ability. His size likely won’t allow him to be a lead back, but he could easily be an Austin Ekeler type of player in the league.

    Mock Draft landing spots
Gainwell’s size will keep him out of the first round and push him to the third round, but I expect a team is going to fall in love with him late in the second. With most mock drafts being of the first round variety, Gainwell hasn’t been mocked to many teams. His skill set makes him a useful player on any team. He’s been mocked to a variety of teams in the late first all the way to the fourth round.

  83. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think Eichenberg is going to make a push to start at RT
And if we are moving Hunt inside, that’s going to be an exciting young OL

I mentioned today a developmental type OC and I think we have a shot at one today

Maybe we leave round 3 with a RB, OC, and DT
Maybe we can find a diamond in a rough

Those aren’t exactly positions that come off the board early, so there should be decent talent there

then how did he lead the nation without having great hands?

How would You make an argument, that other TE have better hands, when they did not catch as many passes as Long did?

A true stat watcher I see, watch his tape. The reason I compared him to Kelce was, because of how he works downfield to get open and the number of passes that get thrown to him as a result.

He doesn’t catch a lot of catchable balls (that leads me to believe he doesn’t have great hands), but the QB he had at BC was a noodle arm wobbler, so I think he’ll be better with a more accurate QB.

I like the player, not sure about why we picked him, other than Gesicki insurance

agreed, maybe some think that TE can lead the nation with catches, with fishing nets superglued to their heads , because their hands are SO bad, lol

i think its more to do with extreme negativity, and people think they know it all, yet have proven they know very little

some folks live their lives in extreme fear and negativity 24/7, they lack cajones

i already knew the negative comments would begin before the draft, because some think they are more knowledgable than actual NFL GMs,
    it happens annually, lol

True colors always seem to work there way out.

    Very, very small print.

Bill Belichick: Patriots don’t just grade players, draft evaluations are more complex

After reading that article my opinion on Belicheat has gone down.

So a computer can transfer everything into a binary number yet his way of evaluating a player is too complex to put a number on it.

He might be a genius with some stuff, but if serious he’s full of shit on this one

    Eichenberg:
last three seasons he started all 38 games.

Let’s not forget 2020 First Team All-American OT along with Leatherwood (taken at #17)
ND has become OL University (esp with the blocking TEs they produce). They are still signing high ranked OL high school recruits. And these guys step right into the NFL and become productive.

ND actually had a “tell” about which side they were going to run to because that’s where they put Eichenberg … LT or RT … that’s where the RB was headed.

I actually had a sense of relief when we drafted him. It felt like our T position is now set for the next 4 to 5 years at rookie contract.

  92. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

    We may trade Gesicki,

he’s not a well rounded T.E., it’s like being in a fox hole and someone screaming, giving away your position.

Long looks way more rounded, we can either run or pass, he will keep Ds guessing.

I think you could be right… or they just decide to line him up as if he’s a wide receiver in 2 or 3 TE sets. Look for mismatches… spread out the Def… make room for Waddle to do his thing. But, with FA pending for Gesicki, we may very well have drafted his replacement in advance.

Miami Dolphins pass on Meneirz is telling on their Oline thoughts
    by Brian Miller5m ago
The Miami Dolphins last night opted to pass on the last top-rated center in favor of another tight end and that sends a message they like their offensive line.

When Miami moved up for Liam Eichenberg in round two, it should have been the telling sign that they were not likely going to draft a center but as pick after pick moved off the board and the third round began, many fans were hoping for Quinn Meinerz to fall to pick 81. And he did.

The Dolphins came on the clock at pick 81 and many fans thought the pick would be for the Wisconsin-Whitewater center. Instead, Miami drafted one of the best all-around tight ends in Hunter Long. Meinerz would continue to slide to pick 98 where Denver made him their pick.

I liked Meinerz too, but there’s not much to go by.

Flores and staff had him at the Senior Bowl, so he knows more about him than the rest of us, if he didn’t take him in the 3rd either he didn’t have him ranked that high or had more important plans somewhere else.

Because we made pick A you can’t just assume B

  96. David Collins's avatar David Collins says:

For me it’s about helping the team win. I look forward to getting down there. They can put me at center,” Eichenberg said, before pointing out he has no experience playing center. “They can put me wherever they want me.
