Game 1 of the 2022 preseason was different than I expected. I definitely didn’t expect to see Skylar Thompson the entire game and I also didn’t expect that the majority of starters for both teams would held out, but that was the arrangement the 2 teams made, or at least I believe that’s the case. Being that there are only THREE preseason games as opposed to FOUR (due to the new CBA), this will probably be the dress rehearsal game, as preseason game 3 used to be. We did get to see some starters on the O-line last week and I thought the guys looked pretty good overall. Yes, they were going against Tampa’s second string and sometimes 3rd string, but in preseason, those guys are busting their ass to make a name for themselves and trying to earn a roster spot, so the fact that none of our O-line guys struggled is a good thing. Skylar Thompson did everything he could to try and make the roster, and I think it may end up being a tough decision in the end. Tua hasn’t proved he can play an entire season and stay healthy, and Teddy Bridgewater is obviously more accomplished, but Teddy B is on a 1YR contract and putting Skylar Thompson on the PS leaves his open to be snatched by another NFL team. Hard to say the Dolphins are going to the Superbowl with Tua, can they get there with Teddy Bridgewater?
We had some guys show up nice in game 1 on defense, namely LB Cameron Goode, LB Duke Riley, and LB Sam Eguavoen who had an INT. The secondary was pretty ineffective, as both Gabbert and Trask shredded the Dolphins defensive backs. Noah Igbinoghene did not have a good outing and it’s getting less likely each week that Iggy finds his way onto the roster. The Dolphins did sign veteran CB Mackensie Alexander, former 2nd RD pick in 2016 by the Minnesota Vikings. If Byron Jones is fully healthy, Alexander will be competing for the 3rd CB spot with one of my favorites, Nik Needham. At worst he’s a fine depth guy who despite not starting a ton of games (25 in 4 seasons), he’s done it and has enough game experience. I’m holding out hope that Byron Jones can be healthy and start the season playing, rather than on the PUP.
We’ll get to see Tyreek Hill and Waddle on the field together in a game for the first time. That’s exciting! I would like to see the O-line keep up the good work they started last week. No other unit on this team concerns me more. Getting reps together and playing well will give these guys confidence going into the regular season so I’d love to see them succeed. I still think we have a lot of talent on the O-line, namely Austin Jackson and Liam Eichenberg. Terron Armstead, Connor Williams and Robert Hunt have already established themselves. One shout out, OG Solomon Kindley had a very strong game against the Bucs. That’s great news because he’s a real mauler, and the fact he played well in this blocking scheme is great for us because he’ll give us some nice depth. Anyone who’s seen this kid in the run game remembers how nasty he is.
On the defensive side, the secondary is the unit to watch. To be honest, it’s the D-line and LB’s that I want to watch, but we’ll see if Mackensie Alexander gets some reps and how he fares in our defensive scheme. I have a lot of confidence in our defense, but the Raiders did some shopping in the offseason too, and now they Davante Adams and our own pal Mack Hollins, along with one of the peskiest slot receivers in the game, Hunter Renfrow. Not sure how much those guys play, but Adams and Renfrow are a handful! Oh, and they happen to have one of the best receiving TE’s in the game in Darrren Waller. The Raiders defense is no joke either, they have the talented DE Maxx Crosby along with newly added Chandler Jones. Our O-line has a tough task against these, and will provide a stout test. Not sure how much Josh Jacobs plays but he’s a load, and rookie Zamir White is a tough runner as well, I know some of us were hoping he’d land here. The score of the game and who wins is unimportant, but how we get there tells the story. Hoping we play strong and remain healthy!

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Los Angeles Rams
Waived RB Raymond Calais
—————-
I liked him as a late pick in the draft. Fast little water bug.
Not that we need a RB when we can’t block for them
Eric Edholm’s takeaways:
Cornerback concerns. If the Dolphins have an area where depth is an issue, it might be at cornerback. Starters Byron Jones and Xavien Howard are two of the league’s better ones when healthy. But neither of them played Saturday against the Raiders, though, and it showed. Las Vegas’ second-team offense steamrolled down the field on the opening series, 75 yards on 12 plays, for a TD against Miami’s starting defense. Former first-rounder Noah Igbinoghene was beaten for two first downs on crossing patterns. Mike McDaniel has said he wants the former 2020 first-rounder — who is still only 22 years old, believe it or not — to be more aggressive after enduring two tough seasons. But that didn’t show up early versus Vegas. More potentially bad news came in the game with an early injury to CB Nik Needham, who grabbed his left hand after a tackle and went into the locker room. With Trill Williams’ injury a week ago, Jones slow to return from offseason surgery and Igbinoghene’s continued struggles, Miami’s CB depth looks a bit concerning.
No paywall, at least it didn’t for me.

We’ve all been through his for years. Why do we act like the preseason is the answer to all things? Playing a quarter or so. It’s about young players trying to make the team. Can we stop making more out of it then we do?
Once the RS starts the PS means nothing. Haven’t we all been there done that?
The outcome doesn’t matter, but things in the game certainly do
Larnell and Iggy sucking means they won’t be on the field in the RS, unless something went terribly wrong
Skylar, EZ, Tindall and Goode all looked very good and are biting, they all should make the 53
Right! But it’s not the best team playing the game. It’s still practice.
I think Iggy is a bust. We took a chance on him and it didn’t pan out. But people forget about later round picks and undrafted players making the team.
Yes, Needham, Trill and Goode look the part, just put Iggy on the PS and forget about him, if someone poaches, oh well
Our D being it’s best needs shutdown CB play, we won’t see that in PS, but we did see some pretty good play except the 1st drive and last 2
They did keep us in the game though, if only Skylar would’ve come in earlier we could’ve scored some real points
2nd play of the series 2nd and 18, right after the snap Skylar wasn’t ready for and lost 8 yards, was very impressive for a first down
You likely won’t see that poor coverage during the season, but impressive none the less
It’s plays like that Herbert is getting praised for
Teddy 6.5m fully guaranteed, I’d still cut him or try to trade him
me too … he seems to have lost his love of the game or something.
Maybe that’s just his natural body language, but he looked so lackadaisical.
Several times he was just strolling into his 5 step drop and DL were already getting back there plus he had already missed an open WR coming out of his break.
Of course the worst was that safety. That was 100% on Teddy being slack early in the play and then not just dumping it out of bounds when he drifted into the end zone.
Before the DL made contact, Teddy never even thought of turning on the speed and running away to get enough angle to get back to the goal line.
If TB doesn’t come back to TB, they’ll be lucky to win 3 games with the QBs they have left. We should trade Teddy to them for a CB or LT. I think they have extra there.
I would hate for them to steal Skylar.
Cleveland or even Carolina who lost their rookie QB for the year.
Keep it up rookie
Maybe???
Goes to show previous OC’s didn’t use him as a true TE. He was used for what he is. A big WR who runs like a wounded giraffe after the catch. He won’t get you YAC unless he is in wide open field.
I feel like we are trying to make Gesicki something he will never be.
Though, if we were to try and trade him, we would suddenly be thin at the TE position unless Ingold could double duty as a TE/FB.

HAVE TO DISAGREE with those who greatly diminish what happens in preseason. For example, if our O-Line CAN’T open holes for our running backs, THAT’s A SIGNIFICANT ISSUE. If our O-line can’t keep our QB’s from having to get rid of the ball TOO EARLY, THAT’S A SIGNIFICANT ISSUE.
IN FACT, those two things did happen at a rate I believe is to the DETRIMENT OF THE TEAM. The respective O-Lines of Buffalo and Miami are playing at DIFFERENT LEVELS. The Bills’ O-Line is playing at championship levels; the Dolphins O-Line is NOT!! And it hasn’t for over a decade!! It’s the number one reason why Miami can NOT be considered a true championship contender for the 2022 season.
SOOO-O-O-O, the preseason DOES COUNT as an indicator of what’s to come. And what’s coming is YET ANOTHER FRUSTRATING SEASON that will not produce a single Dolphins’ playoff victory.
BUFFALO will be coming to Miami in September. See for yourself which franchise is headed in the right direction and which one is NOT!!
I agree that it is an indicator of the talent and depth.
Though, not worried about the run game as numerous players and coaches have said they are keeping the run plays very basic and vanilla in the PS games.
It is frustrating that they can’t seem to open holes in these basic run plays though and the DL actually getting through and disrupting the play.
For our OL to be average, which is all most are hoping for, we need Armstead in the game
No one said, our OL will be a championship OL, nor does it need to be
Our backups are pretty bad, with the exception of maybe 1 or 2, we’ve also have several not playing which pushes the depth down further
Coaches seem to be forcing Larnell and Kion on us, they must see something in them
MMs running game isn’t based off of the basic principals shown in the PS, although we should be able to run for more than 37 yards
OL play has surely been a concern in PS, let’s wait until the games count before calling it a problem, since the OL we have now is mostly what we’ll play with
Well
Better they see it now, but the concern level has gone up to DEFCON 4, if it continues in week 1 against the cheats it will be fast approaching level 3
An MM offense is heavily based off of everyone blocking, we aren’t seeing that yet and why I like Sherfield and Sanu to make the 53
Tanner Conner being a smaller TE doesn’t have much of a chance
We really need one of Smythe, Long or Cethan to make more of an impact catching passes as they can block, but aren’t exactly dual threats
Opponents don’t always play vanilla against you in PS, so when you do and they don’t, don’t overreact to the results
I can’t imagine a corner blitzing with Hill and Waddle in the game!
Tua would eat thier lunch!
That’s part of its just preseason and don’t judge the running game until all the pieces are present.
Now we know what Gesicki playing all of those snaps was telling us (he’s actually going to play TE this year and he isn’t ready)
I’ve watched too many years of PS games meaning nothing. All it’s good for is taking a long look at some of the lower drafted and free agent talent. Why risk your starters at all? Doesn’t make sense. The schemes are so vanilla, hell ice cream would be caviar in comparison. Let the kids get injured not your stars. I really can’t be bothered trying to find a site to watch these ‘games.’ The practices are where the real stuff is being taught and behind the closed doors of the meeting rooms.
The score means nothing in the standings, everything else has some meaning, but we don’t have enough info to know what it actually means
What Wyo says is perfectly correct and what McDaniel hopes will work.
… …
Let us not forget that the LV new HC was with Bellicheat, and Bellicheat was the coach in the Super Bowl who used the “tilt” defense to totally stump McVay and the Rams version of the wide zone.
The tilt tells the DL to square up in front of the OL, so they can’t make those lateral gaps. Plus Billy sends a free rusher behind the play to either get a quick TFL from behind or be right with the RB when the RB goes to make his choice of gap to hit.
… …
The McVay solution was to trade for a pure arm talent (Stafford) who would just quick-bomb the defense mid-deep and force them to use that free runner in intermediate pass D.
The SF Shanahan McDaniel version tried to solve this problem by drafting Trey Lance, thinking his running would be superior to Garoppolo and thus add that extra dimension to freeze (and elude) the free runner. A running QB leaking out the backside will kill the tilt.
When it was obvious that Lance was not ready, the brilliant McDaniel reinvented Deebo as a “secret weapon,” although really all he did was release into the space that was left by that free runner the defense was sending backside to ruin the play.
This equates to a running QB leaking out the back, only with a superior athlete than Garoppolo or most QBs (even Tua).
… …
As Wyo and others above have said,
McDaniel through Grier brought in multiple “deebos” to do the backside leak and game changing speed to get intermediate so fast the DBs need help. Tua’s quick release would make that work even if he doesn’t have a Stafford cannon arm.
With Hill and Waddle on the field it changes the numbers in the box, with 8 in the box we’re passing all day, Tua just has to identify box count
bingo
Notice how smart McDaniel is.
He said Tyreek would play, so the LV HC would proceed with his plan, but at the last minute he sat Tyreek so pissant-face Mac would not have a plan B.
This allowed McDaniel to study what bellicheat was planning to do in our 1st RS game. We have tape. They don’t.
… …
in the preseason game, they kept all the Tyreek plays under wraps, so Joshy-bear wouldn’t go tattle to uncle Cheaty and demo the sets to him in the joint practices they’ll have all week right before we play the patsies*, which seems to be unfair scheduling, but so, what else is new?
You may have a point there, but overall how smart MM is I’m going to reserve judgement, sure it was only a PS game, but that last decision to kick the fg was bad. 4th and 2, with a redhot Skylar you go for a 1st down and win the game. I know it’s not the conventional play, but I’d make it 100 out of 100 in that situation
EzE
Is quickly becoming my favorite player
He went over 100 yards receiving!!!
The draftees are definitely biting, all 4, and EZ is really starting to getter done
With a 4th CB or a safety on him he’ll be able to make lots of plays this year, if given the opportunity
hey uwantwat, I do understand your point, but there are real chess matches going on, and coaches need real reps against real enemies, not guys you eat dinner with who know your plays.
That’s how the coaches know who they can trust in the RS and who hits and who can take a hit.
If it’s done well, it really informs the cuts.
I’m re-watching the game this morning and Nick Needham was playing really well before he was injured.
Good to know, hope his injury is minimized by game 1, because he’s our likely CB2
For some reason I haven’t been able to Dolphin PS games….I have always been able to get them…wtf.
I must have missed something….lol
Bridgewater just looks disinterested
He threw some really nice passes though towards the end of the second.
We were lucky they stop d that GASKIN fumble
They better get light years better at running the ball or we are fucked even with Hill and 🐧 playing.
Gesicki should be traded. He does not fit and is a liability in this office.
Sigh 😔
Offense
I don’t think we could ever get away with stashing Skyler on the PS: he’s far too promising… much more promising than Reid Sinnett was for us last year. I consider him to be a lock for our 53, but that’s just me.
That stated, I don’t think we should trade Teddy… at least not yet. Skyler is still raw and we’ve only seen him rock against opposing D’s twos, threes, and fours. What’s more, should Tua go down early in the season as he did last year, it would be great to have both Teddy and Skyler.
Wait to deal Teddy as there will be more and more injuries to starting QBs before the trade deadline. We’d get a better return on Teddy out of desperation while Skyler continues to grow in the interim.
Yes, I see us carrying 3 QBs on our final 53. JMO
Yes to all of this
Thank you!
Albert Pujols is on FIRE!!! 2 HRs yesterday, bringing him to 692! He’s now only 5 HRs away from passing A-Roid for #4 all-time in HRs, and 8 HRs away from baseball immortality (the 700 club).
A week ago, I’d have said 700 was out out of reach, but he’s got 6 HRs in his last 8 games and has put himself in position to make a run.
Totally concurred… I thought it was totally out of reach for Pujols a week ago. I’m rooting for him.
MM on Tua
3qbs…hmmm
My conclusion after the first two games is — we had a real good draft. 3 of them look like they should be on the 53 and maybe even the 4th (Goode).
^
I think Gesicki will be just fine for us this year. Yes, he’s got work to do on becoming an in-line blocker… and he’s more than willing by all accounts and in his own words. No, he hasn’t mastered it (or reached his ceiling) by any means, but he’s most certainly getting better even if marginally.
Coach McDaniel is definitely monitoring his progress, as he loves his (blocking) TEs in the outside-zone blocking scheme. But do not lose focus on Gesicki’s nearly flawless catching hands, his leaping ability, his massive catching radius, his red zone proficiency, and his ‘catch-in-traffic’ capability.
Gesicki is a very valuable commodity in ANY Offense, especially in this pass-happy NFL nowadays. IMO, he got the reps last evening to get even better at blocking… not because he’s on the trade block or otherwise.
Gesicki will be valuable for us…. how could he not be? But the question for me is not this year but after it. Believe he will simply be too valuable to a team that will not use him as an in-line blocker for us to match whatever money thrown his way. Think he will want out of the trenches as well.
Everything is contingent upon THIS year. We’ll see what happens…
Bowden was handling all the returns in the first half and I think some in the second half as well. Take that as a sign he probably makes the team.
Just don’t believe they’d rotate Hill, Waddle and Holland through those duties full time. Too valuable. Other one they’ve tried out is Preston Williams, but doesn’t seem his gig.
Totally agreed, Stanger. I think Bowden makes the team.
Do we have a nickname yet for Erik Ezukanma. His play and long last name beg for one. How about EZ (pronounced EZee)?
—————————
“Dolphins rookie Erik Ezukanma did something no NFL player has accomplished in more than three years on Saturday night.
Ezukanma, a fourth-round pick from Texas Tech, posted 114 receiving yards in a preseason game.”
Ezukanma goes by ‘Eazy-E’ on Twitter…
Can’t believe that the real Eazy-E (Eric Wright) passed away before Erik Ezukanma was even born. Makes me feel OLD!
Man chose Eazy-E and so it shall be.
“Word to the muthafucka, straight outta Compton!” ~ Eazy-E
😀
Eazy-E looks just like the player he was in college, big, physical WR with good speed and YAC ability.
The Browns once went 4-0 in the preseason and went 0-16 in the regular season. The Bills used to go 0-4 in the PS and would then go to the Super Bowl.
And we’ve had a win and loss both based on an upright doink. Not going to sweat 1-1 any more than would 2-0 or 0-2.
None of the stats and scores matter. It’s to get players snaps in game situations and football shape. For rookies and bubble players it’s a chance to get some game tape for the coaches and other teams.
Once the RS starts nobody cares about the PS results.
Any word on Needham’s injury?
It was a disjointed finger (my take). Used to see guys walk up to our trainer with a pinky at 90 degrees. He’d pop it back in and the guy was ready to play. Sore and sensitive for a good while after though.
Hope that’s all it is. JT talked about it on the broadcast that DL tape their fingers because it happens often in the trenches.
I wonder what McDaniel will work on this week in the joint practices with Philly.
I bet both teams use the time to get their #1s some reps with no tape rolling.
But the #1s won’t play in the PS3 game.
A finger injury is worse for a skill player than some rugby animal or trench warrior.
The DBs actually have to use their hands for something more than sledge hammers.
A DB can play with a with his hand wrapped just won’t have the same ability for a pick that he would have. A WR would be out for however long because catching the ball is his job.
“rugby animal”? While sorta liking that…. if rugby players didn’t catch and run with the ball would be a pretty boring game.
meant as a compliment
however, rugby guys do have bigger balls
so do not need soft hands

Remember that our offense is a totally new system and it’s just getting started. We’re not playing with all the best players or game planning. It’s just getting reps to get ready for the season. The same on defense with a mix matched group for limited times. I watched some video of the game again and it was a typical PS game. Guys starting to play more physical with more contact.
Two weeks and we have the real thing. 🙂
Does anyone know what Byron Jones’ status is? Will he be ready week 1 or put on some type of IR?
He’s on schedule to return for week 1, but that’s without setbacks
Cool! He hasn’t practiced but he is a vet who knows how to play. I would think he’s going to need some reps before game action though.
I hope the Ravens keep all 6 of their 4th round picks, otherwise I’d be looking at the waiver wire
Report was Raiders moved the ball right down the field on their opening drive for a td, with their starters not playing and ours playing
Iggy isn’t a starter, but he was playing and was the weak link, if AVG is playing instead of Ingram no big deal, but Iggy in at outside CB…
It’s reporting the story they want portrayed and not what really happened
That’s why it was a practice game. It was not that impressive on either side. It was a get some snaps to get ready for the real deal games. You can see how it’s orchestrated. Both teams are trying to accomplish the same thing. Take a look at rookies and bubble guys and get some core guys snaps. Be careful with some stars and guys not ready to play. It’s the same for all teams.
Iggy is an excellent athlete but not a very good CB/DB. He lacks instincts. Jevon Holland has all of it.
Last year I watched the Jags game, we led 13-3 early and 13-10 at the half, then left at the half disgusted, because everything was a struggle and even said we’re going to lose
I saw some of those same struggles last night picking up first downs on the ground on 2-1, 3-1…
It’s only PS, but we need to pickup some easy running first downs or we’re going to struggle again this year
Agreed. We have to execute key situations to become a top team. 😉
I still think the offense is the key to score more points. I think our defense can get it done with a competent offense.

Reposted without the paywall
“I need it. I need all the reps I can get,” Gesicki said after playing into the second half of Miami’s 15-13 preseason loss to the Las Vegas Raiders at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night.
“I played receiver last year. I played receiver the last 3-4 years. So, I’m playing tight end now. So, any reps I can get out there live … I can use it.”
The Raiders were really hitting at Saurday night, it was the difference in the game
For Gesicki (and Gaskin) they didn’t seem ready for such in a PS game, both paid the price
Cethan also wasn’t ready on his failed attempt at a block on an end around
In high school we were playing Hialeah, I was TE, on a 2 pt conversion my 145 lbs had to block a 225 lb DE, to no avail (I had no chance we lost 8-6). My technique was ok, just too light to get it done. Gesicki shouldn’t have that problem, just needs to work on technique, he’ll be fine
Most TEs really aren’t asked to move defenders, just hold them up and keep them out of the way, Gesicki can do that
I thought Teddy was terrible on that safety, but Gesicki sucked big time too.
Gesicki’s worst play of the game was Dolphins quarterback Teddy Bridgewater’s first rep. Gesicki allowed incoming edge rusher Jordan Jenkins to get past him as soon as the ball was snapped. Bridgewater was flagged for intentional grounding to avoid a sack, and the play resulted in a safety.
It was, bad, but so was the pass that hit him in the chest when he didn’t get his head around. Tuna threw a perfect pass between defenders that was on him when he came out of his break.
Gesicki certainly didn’t block on the safety, his man forced Teddy out of the pocket, no big deal at that point, then Teddy fell asleep at the wheel and let the defender come right to him
Teddy seemed a step slow all night, our 3 pts in 2 quarters were the result
If Tua gets hurt in the middle of the season, when the schedule is soft I’d expect to win every game with Teddy, but possibly lose 1 or 2 with Skylar over about a 7 game stretch starting week 5
I’d expect to lose every game weeks 13-16 with Teddy, but maybe go 2-2 with Skylar
I just want a chance if Tua goes down, kick Teddy to the curb
You got Mossed!
I like it, but Mossed is over the top above the rim
OFFENSIVE LINE
The first team offensive line handled business in pass protection. They combined to not allow a single pressure on their nine pass-blocking snaps together.
Well, that’s appreciated. Now do it for an entire game and mix in some good run blocking!
Mike, Terminal List is on Prime, I watched it. It was good.
“Run game Guru”
“That will be more concerning for me,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said.
The cause for concern — stop us if you’ve heard this many times before — is the run game. Or the lack thereof. Through two preseason games, the Dolphins are averaging 2.7 yards per carry, which sounds poor. Subtract two outlier long runs and the more indicative stats are worse: 30 carries for 45 yards — an average of 1.5.
We need all factors at work, Hill/Waddle/Armstead, but yeah I’m concerned too
Haven’t seen any outside zone yet. One Jet Sweep. Runs have been off tackle. Don’t think we’ll see the run game until RS.
bingo
shhh
all the good stuff on the down low
Thought I saw it a few times at camp, but really wasn’t watching for it
On that safety … not excusing Gesicki’s missed block, but everybody knows it IS what he needs to learn, so I still put a lot of the actual 2 points on Teddy’s lax attitude.
… …
He’s a veteran QB with many years experience as a starter.
He knows who Gesicki is and who he is supposed to block.
If it’s my ass on the goal line, I say “Hey Mike if he gets by you, I’ll flip you the ball.”
Terry Bradshaw would’ve done that. Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, etc.etc.
Turn a slip up into an 8 yard gain.
Hell, Marino would’ve stuck the point of the ball 2 inches up Gesicki’s ass
if he let his man through and didn’t turn around.
… …
Teddy could’ve easily out-stepped some backup DE to the rusher’s right
and had a clear look at Gesicki or down the field or just tossed it away at his leisure.
… …
Plays get blown up all the time.
The QB doesn’t have a red jersey in games. He’s got to be a player, too.
Teddy’s being slack cost us the Game. a L. Thank God it was not the RS.
I like that Teddy Laxitude😷
And agree 100% as I stated up the page
If you have a mismatch you better give some help or have a plan B
Teddy had a plan B, he showed great pocket pressence by avoiding Gesicki’s man, then brainfarted into a safety
plus 50 for you bro
Hey we could trade Teddy for a back-up LT or backup CB,
enjoy Skylar as our sideline eyes and spot reliever,
then get Chad Henne and stash him on the PS to run the scout team and be the emergency back-up; nobody would poach a 54 year old even if he does still have a rocket arm.
No need, Skylar is ready for relief duties and could be our answer to beating Buffalo, as he brings the big arm and mobility needed to get the job done (accuracy still may be an issue, but he gives us a chance)
LOL
“Could be our answer for beating Buffalo” ROFLMAO!!
He going to play Defense for us is he?
The backup QB is always the most popular guy, until you realize why he is a backup.
I’d rather have RS teams (bellicheat) thinking “same ol, same ol Miami rushing woes” than thinking,
“wow McDaniel has really rejuvenated that Miami rushing attack and he’s got 3 -5 good backs roaring out of multiple lateral gaps!!!!!!!!”
PS:
I know Billy is not that naive and probably has video of our closed practices.
Inside
Besides, everyone knows that drive blocking is not Jackson’s strength, but quick feet and chipping a slower DT before smacking a second level LB IS what he is good at.
So we should practice what our guys are worst at (drive blocking) in the PS to try to improve, but that’s not what the wide zone is all about.
Why practice what already works?
Why not practice your worst stuff in PS so as to try to improve that?
Cheats week 1
Tua had some time to throw on a few passes and made the D pay, if that protection is more of the norm, Tua will eat the D alive
I know and even Skylar had mostly good protection. The stats showed a very low pass pro pressure rate.

Gesicki will be valuable for us…. how could he not be?
By missing assignments that blow up plays, by missing blocks, by being a puss, knocked off his routes, by being arm tackled by DB’s 40lbs lighter than him, by NOT DOING A TIGHT END’S JOB.
That’s how.
He finished 8th in the league last year in total yards.
I’ll take that, especially with Smythe adding in what he does.
Bad thing is Gesicki only got 2 TDs, but I put that on Flo.
If he gets 45 yds per game again this year as he did last,
I think that would be great. There are other guys who need the ball.
… …
I get what you are saying though, and I can’t understand it either.
I mean about him getting arm tackled.
There is something “volleyballish” about the way he plays.
He plays on pegs, up on his toes.
It makes him faster that way, but it means he does not have a solid base when hit, so he loses contact with the earth very quickly.
Somebody needs to show him how as soon as he secures the catch (at which he is really good) then he needs to transition to running like a fullback where his feet are pushing the ground instead of dancing across it like it’s ice.
I mean he looks like Michael Jackson moon-walking sometimes out there.
Maybe it’s just who he is, and ppl should enjoy what he brings and not try to force him into a traditional mold. Mike Ditka type TE runs are way passe.
Fun to watch though.
He has this thing he does when he catches the ball, he leaves his feet. Like on every catch. Not only if the ball is placed high. He “hops” as he catches and constantly leaves his feet. It’s weird.
Kong during the preseason
lol
LOL
Kong driving in New York 😉
This is exactly why I never fly at street level
Steve above
“Most TEs really aren’t asked to move defenders, just hold them up and keep them out of the way, Gesicki can do that”
… …
Honestly, this is it. That’s all he has to do.
Especially in a wide zone scheme,
the TE needs to chip a OLB and then release and go find the Strong Safety or slot CB and push him backwards or tangle him up enough so the RB can get one step past him.
After that it’s a foot race with their DBs having a bad angle so that our RBs will always win at least for another 10-15 yds.
or if it’s Raheem, take it to the house.
Steve, I agree. I think we should try and trade Bridgewater. I’d trade him for a back up tackle.
Last night I watched the two part documentary on Netflix about Manti Te’o and the whole fake girlfriend thing. I remember when that went down and how weird it was.
The show was very illuminating. Manti really came across to me as a guy who was definitely naive at the time, but also a genuinely good person. I just feel bad for the guy and how his whole life was basically destroyed by an extremely selfish and morally bankrupt individual who simply took advantage of him.
One of my friends mentioned this to me over the weekend. It’s on my watchlist now.
Phel, I’ve almost put on The Terminal List a few times. I have it in my queue, just haven’t got around to it. I assume by your question, you recommend it?
Absolutely. Kept me up until 1 AM last night.
I figured it would fit right in with Reacher and Ryan

Doesn’t seem much doubt that Eazy-E has locked up the 4th WR slot. And a big jump from 5th to 4th. 4th means you are both active and get some actual snaps. Bowden and Sherfield should be 5 and 6 but almost all their snaps will be on special teams.
Hmmmm
Albert Wilson’s career is over or on life support at 30. NFL can be tough.
awww
I like that player.
But I do think he has lost a step.
Did anyone see that block on rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux? The WR went right at his knee. He’ll reportedly be out about 3 weeks with a MCL sprain but it looked like it could have been season ending.
I just was watching that. Crazy that’s legal?!?!
I can’t believe that it would be and not sure how any player could even do that to another player. That’s nasty stuff.
LOL at this clueless browns fan complaining that the SHIRT should be banned….
How about the player? Shouldn’t the player be banned?
Happy Birthday Mike E! 🍻🎂 🎉
Happy Birthday Mike E!!!
Happy B-Day Mike E
Happy, Happy Mike E. Left you 3 cakes in the approval file. 🙂
Happy B’Day Mike E.

Time for me to buy the Fest tickets. Have till next Monday to pay for them. So if you are in no problem, but if you aren’t coming I need to know.
Haven’t seen Capt Stubbs lately — anyone have his e-mail?

We ended up with
Sec 323
Rows 18-22
Seats 21-28 (plus 2 more tagged on the end of 2 rows).
323 is the flip side (opposite corner) of what we had last year on the visitor’s side, but our rows are like 5-6 rows further down. And the 8X4 square on the aisle is nice.
Bad news is the price is more at $85 per ticket.
Happy birthday Mike E and thank you for keeping the content fresh
It doesn’t seem fair now does it?
🤣 truer words were never spoken
I dropped off one my sons at college yesterday. I felt like Rodney Dangerfield in Back to School
Think you felt more like our parents when they dropped us off…. unless you are thinking of moving into the dorm and putting a hot tub into your room. Also guessing you can’t do the Triple Lindy. 🙂
I was focusing more on the blonde in the next room over wearing a very nice mid rift. Her mom wasn’t bad either
You are a bad man Hulk, but not like haven’t had those moments before. Always remind myself that Playboy had college-aged playmates. It’s all Hef’s fault.
Shit! I think we’ve done this several coaches in a row sometimes!
Not sure we necessarily did that but each coach has done weird shit not the least of which was Cam working in the concession stand or whatever the hell he was doing for a preseason game.
He had Don Capers be the HC in a preseason game so he could evaluate the talent. It was kind of weird.
Stanger, I just texted Capt Stubbs I’ll let you know what he says.
I’m pretty sure he booked a room already so I hope he’s still good.
Thanks — and I left a message for him as well. If you get an answer you can tell him no need for a call back.
Roger that
Stranger – I’m in for the fest ticket. Let me know how Tua pay you.
Are you going to the opener?
No, going to watch the opener on a big ass tv as I will still be in VA. I am going to the Ravens game.
lol…. all goes down at D&B’s the night before like a drug deal in cash….. speaking of things I need to set up.
Happy Birthday Mike, you rock
Interesting stat from the first two games.
—————–
“Overall, the left side of the line, which includes guard Liam Eichenberg, has held its own. When the Dolphins run left, they’ve rushed for 46 yards on 12 attempts. Going right? Twelve carries, 8 yards.”
12 for 48 is very close to 4 avg, that’s encouraging and that’s without the Boss when Armstead is in fuggetaboutit. Happy Eich is doing so well, I called him at LG a while back (before the papers did).
It don’t get any closer🤪
Kindley hasn’t gone unnoticed, You knew he’d make some noise.
“They try to fool you and make you think they are helping you out — they’re not. You know that some of this money is going into trees? We got enough trees — don’t we have enough trees around here?”
— Herschel Walker on the small part of the new “Green Bill” dedicated to plant trees to reduce CO2. Man is running for the US Senate.
One thing I will say about this is that North America isn’t lacking trees. LOL
But yet we still need more to absorb CO2. Was just a silly comment. Guessing not much data behind it. And it was just a little sliver of the new law.
Stanger, I’m not defending Walker’s comments because he says a lot of goofy things. But trees are not the problem. We know there are better energy alternatives like fusion but that’s also frowned upon because it’s nuclear. With that comes the fear of meltdowns or people believing it leads to nuclear war. But it’s the most efficient and cleanest energy there is.
I’ve heard from players and coaches who have been involved with the running game system (outside zone) we use is that it takes time to get it going especially for the OL because it has to be precise. We’ll see how long it takes, but the pass pro has looked much better.
We have to run on the Bills or we’ll get run over, anyone else, not so much
We have to make the Bills pay for heavy fronts with our passing game to back them off. The run game is always important to keep a team honest. But their defense didn’t respect our ability to block them when they blitzed us which they did often.
They know we’ll start out running or at least RPO, we can’t just let them pin their ears back
Agreed. Gotta back them off. Their defense worries me more than their offense. They’ve beat us because we couldn’t move the ball on them and eventually they would score because they can score on anyone. We can’t keep punting inside our 30 and stay in a game with them. We need Hill and Waddle to push them back so we can run against more 6-7 man fronts, not 8.
Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes! Love y’all!
Happy B-Day, Methusala
Thanks Rob
You share the birthday with my mom. I know when it’s yours even without Facebook telling me.
My wife said her mom’s Healthcare aid from a couple of years ago texted her to wish me a Happy Birthday. Hers is tomorrow, so she also remembers. It all works, happy that people remember!
Only the Stej can make Mariota look like Marino! 😉
When they cut the forest down for the solar panels, will anyone be left to argue?
Just the Aluminati
Miguel de la E,
Happy B-Day, Brother! Thanks for all you do here, thanks for being who you are, and thanks for always giving a helping ‘hand’ when needed. LOL
You’re a good dude and I seriously respect ya, man. Hope you enjoyed or are still enjoying your day!
Happy B-Day, Mike!!!
This just in, the jets suck
10 minutes into the game Falcons lead 10-0, at that rate Omar says it projects out to 60-0
Even with a bogus roughing the passer they still can’t move the ball
What’s Mike up to 5’9″ today😜
Stanger…thanks for all the work you do that makes the Fest such an awesome event.
De Nada
Steve or Wyoming,
I’m curious, how did Mariota look? I’ve been busy watching Tucker.
Looks like a superStar!
Stej 4 yards behind every reciever!
So I take it that Mariota can’t be truly evaluated in this game. Let’s hope the stej continue to suck in the regular season!
He’s still benind Tanny!
(It’s the Stej)
Got ya, man! The stej SUCK!
This
Ouch! Yup, that SHOULD have been a TD… and the stej still suck!
