Tua injury overshadows loss to Bengals

This image is still in my head. I went to sleep last night and the loss to the Bengals didn’t bother me in the least. All I could think about was that poor kid lying on the ground with a potentially devastating injury. Thankfully, Tua Tagovailoa was released from the trauma center after just a couple of hours and traveled home with his team. Sometimes you have to separate the humanity from the sport. I wanted us to win this game yet I couldn’t stop thinking about Tua. I saw the game on Sunday, saw him stumble. I was told that an independent neurologist examined Tua and he was cleared of being concussed. I believe this 100%, not everything that happens with the Miami Dolphins is a conspiracy theorist’s wet dream for Gods sake! What happened Sunday has zero to do with what happened last night. This is a violent sport, and that hit last night was evidence of that. It wasn’t dirty per se, it was a physical play that used to be commonplace in any and every NFL game but sometimes the lions bite the gladiators, it happens. Listening to WQAM in Miami, all kinds of “experts” are chiming in on the Tua situation and it really sickens me. I know Ross made the bed and now he has to sleep in it, but this is just too much.

Without any real timetable on QB Tua Tagovailoa’s return, Teddy Bridgewater will be the QB going forward for however long Tua is unavailable. It’s a good thing we’re 3-1 and already 2-0 in divisional play, including knocking off top dog Buffalo. Teddy Bridgewater will get all the snaps and will be better prepared to be at the helm and lead this team. The Jets will have their young QB ( Zach Wilson) back so we won’t be facing Joe Flacco. CB Byron Jones should be back for this game, but will he be opposite X? CB Xavien Howard didn’t finish the game and if you watched the game, I’m not entirely sure he have started it. He clearly is not healthy and was doing his best, but he doesn’t have the speed right now to compete with teams best receivers. Whether or not he can rebound after a long rest, the Dolphins now have 10 days before they play 2 Sundays from now, remains to be seen.

The game last night was pretty odd. We had 7 more yards on offense than the Bengals and Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert (15-69) out rushed RB Joe Mixon (24-61) by 8 yards with 9 less carries. We actually had a good chance to take the lead down 20-15 and were driving to score when Teddy Bridgewater threw his first interception of the season with the Dolphins at the Cincy 29 yard line. We actually had a 15-14 lead as the 3rd quarter ended. Despite all that, there are major concerns for me going forward with this defense. We simply cannot get to the QB rushing just 4 or even 5. It’s shocking to me that this is the case because I expected so much more from LB Jaelan Phillips, especially when we added Melvin Ingram to the mix, and Ingram has been playing so well. Phillips has 6 total tackles and 1 sack through 4 games while playing 70% of the defensive snaps. Ogbah has also been neutralized and his stats mirror Phillips, 7 total tackles, 1 sack. With our secondary incomplete, the one on one man to man coverage is not sustainable with Keion Crossen, Nik Needham and Kader Kohou. All of these guys have done admirable work, and I’m not belittling any of them, but we had pro bowl caliber guys like Xavien Howard and Byron Jones back there, so it’s an awful lot to ask of these young players to cover the NFL’s best one on one with no help, because a safety is needed to blitz to provide pass rush help. The defense was built on the foundation of having the best cover corners back there, so you can’t substitute a couple of UDFA’s and expect the same results.

I think our offense is going to be fine, whether it’s Teddy Bridgewater, Tua Tagovailoa or even Skylar Thompson. I would like us to run the ball more, I liked Mostert getting more carries, you give that guy a little crease and he’s gone. Once again though, as I’ve said before, I don’t like our short yardage offense one bit. Not one of our backs can push the pile, we aren’t getting any push up front, and that includes C Connor Williams, LG Liam Eichenberg and RG Robert Hunt. Cincy defense blew up each and every short yardage play which thoroughly disgusted me. Good thing we have a fullback? Can we use him, and can he give a running back a crease? Like how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop, we may never know.

At 3-1, I should be elated, all of us should, and it’s not like last night’s team loss was so disheartening. I think to me it’s the uncertainty of Tua’s health, and my concerns about our defense that have me feeling down, and mostly it’s Tua for me. I feel so bad for the kid. Finally, the kid has someone in his corner, and he balled out with tons of confidence, and now this. As we all know, concussions seem to manifest more concussions. We’ve seen it happen with so many players in the NFL, I just hope Tua doesn’t become one of those players and become one of those statistics. Teddy Bridgewater has had some bad luck in his own right and now takes the reins of a very potent offense. I’m happy for him however long it lasts, and hope he prospers and enjoys success here in Miami.

    Hello again, everyone.

Thank you, Mike E. and anyone else who sent well-wishes my way.
I have not had time to go back and read the blog from during the storm, etc.

These are very sad times for my cities down here.

I was very lucky. I have damages, but nothing like many did.
I’m hoping everybody else down here at least survived,
but I know that’s not true.

I miraculously got power back on at 8PM, just in time to watch the game.
I did not have time to participate with all my friends on here in watching the game.

Of course, as it turns out, there was no joy in watching Tua get hurt again.

I think they should take a very close look at Tua’s spine. The spine is part of the neurological system. That criminal for the Bengals twisted Tua and slammed him down with a twisted back. Which was already hurt from just a few days ago.

I am fine with Tua not playing until the integrity of his spine is guaranteed.

btw the INT that let them seal the victory was dropped, as you probably already know.

The ball hit the ground, and I’m not sure why no one challenged that pick.

Maybe McDaniel and his coaches were shell shocked by Tua’s condition, or maybe that is now a learning experience for a first year HC.

    • Mike E. says:

Damn, so good to hear from you Naples! So sorry about the damage to your house and town. Hope everyone gets the help they need to get back to what they had.

      • naplesfan2010 says:

        Appreciate that.
The worst thing now is I can’t know yet how my people made out in huge chunks of the two counties.

I still have over 30 local Facebook friends who have not checked in as safe.

    • stangerx says:

Naples — great to read you. Power back is huge.

      • naplesfan2010 says:

thanks, yeah AC and internet seem as good as food sometimes.
However, we are in the distinct minority as far as services.
The water pressure is intermittent and must be boiled.
But at least the roof is not leaking.

    • Krishna says:

Good to know you’re “safe” naples….

I have a friend here in ATX whose mother is in your area. She just found out last night from her mother that she was ok after going “dark” for a while.

I told her I was part of this blog and anything I found out here, I would share with her. I did, and said we were missing one, too. You.

She is quite relieved after hearing from her mom. There was minimal damage to her home, but a lot of her neighbors were not as fortunate.

    Injuries happen!
I’m not going to be the Bills fans who played the what-if game all week including today!
I’m not going to be a key-board doctor and state my opinion on anything!
Because I have no knowledge of what happened and would just be spouting shit if I did say anything!

Without Tua, X, Waddle, Jones the Bengals have a better team!

I had us at 1-3 to begin the season so I’m ecstatic!

    • stangerx says:

Injuries happen but in the 4th Q we were without our starting QB, two stud CBs the D revolves around and our starting RT. Only thing that could have been worse is if Waddle, Hill and Armstead were out.

      • Wyoming85 says:

        Waddle was limping / out.

I was just saying instead of whining about it, suck it up and admit without those guys the Bengals were a better team.

      • stangerx says:

Could not agree more. Hopefullly Hones will be back next game and Howard too. Little steps.

Glad you are safe Naples. šŸ™ šŸ‘

Mike – out of respect for Tua, could we have the image of the team on the field offering their support. I unfollowed Salguero for headlining with this image. It just seems like rubber-necking. We’ve all seen it. I’m not squeamish but it just feels wrong to me?

    • ukfinfan says:

      This one

      • Mike E. says:

UK, if you read the article is was basically how much that image haunted me last night and today. It wasn’t used to be a clickbait prop, I just feel so bad for the kid.

      • ukfinfan says:

I read it Mike, as always, and it also haunted me. Just a personal opinion but sharing an image of someone when they are incapacitated like that just doesn’t sit right with me.

Thanks for the article as always. I appreciate what you do

      • Mike E. says:

Gotcha UK. It happened, it appears he’s OK, respectfully, I’m going to leave it. Context is most important here.

  7. CavalierKong says:

Great to see you’re ok, Naples

  8. naplesfan2010 says:

    Thank you, UK.
Yes, that was a horrifying image.

  9. Ken says:

    From Barry Jackson:

Independent neurologist cleared him last week. If you think he shouldn’t have played, fine. It’s OK to have an opinion. It’s another to INSIST you know more than the doctors who examined him and insist tonight was result of last Sunday. Social media has created so many “experts”.

Places we’ve been going to drink, dance, listen to live rock music, and just party since the 80s are unrecognizable piles of rubble.
    I mean 20 – 30 places.

Only the Lani Kai is still standing in a form you can recognize, although they say they must do testing to see if it is still structurally sound.

The Cottage, a music venue and beach bar and big seafood restaurant, now looks like a sand dune where somebody dumped construction trash.

  16. Tim Knight says:

Mike, I feel the same way as you. I felt sick after Tua got hurt and I really didn’t even care much about the game anymore.

Naples, glad to see you’re okay. So sad for the people who lost so much and ultimately their lives.

    • Mike E. says:

Yep, it’s a terrible reality and part of the game. Guys are going to get hurt, no matter how safe they try to make the game. Big, really big, fast guys colliding with stationary smaller guys is going to cause injuries over and over again. I’m kind of amazed that Buffalo TE Dawson Knox didn’t get hurt last week when Wilkins clocked him. That was a legal, brutal hit, coming from a big guy with a head of steam.

    • naplesfan2010 says:

      Thanks, Tim.
At least I still have a house to clean up and repair.

So in an odd timing twist, today is the first day that I am allowed to start rehab from my spine surgery.

So I spent the day hauling palm fronds and stalks full of coconuts to the curb and trying to secure aluminum shards from my lanai screen.

Light work, but I’m supposed to start with under 20 pounds resistance.
    That’s about 5-6 coconuts.

The gyms are all closed till they get power back,
but at least I got some exercise for a change.

  21. naplesfan2010 says:

I tell myself that if Tua had not been knocked out of the game,

How dare you guys question the enterprise of people who googled ā€œneurologistā€ last night!

    • CavalierKong says:

My motherā€™s brotherā€™s nephew got a concussion once, and my ex-girlfriend saw the whole thing when it happened. She (the ex) called me up last night and said she thinks Tua had a concussion on Sunday and shouldnā€™t have been out there on Thursday.

Sheā€™s scheduled to talk on Good Morning America tomorrow along with Richard Simmons and the lady who turned herself into a cat with cosmetic surgery- all to give their considered opinions on whether or not the Dolphins are attempting to kill Tua on the down low.

    ———————–
I feel the exact same. IF he had just thrown that ball away. Damn

    • Mike E. says:

Even if he didn’t get hurt on that play, it was killing me how long he held that ball. There are times when he looks like he’s stuck in quicksand and can’t move. I’ve seen other QB’s do that too, but Tua has done this a few times this season, looking like a deer in the headlights unable to move

  24. stangerx says:

The push and backwards fall by Tua against the Ravens….. did you give it a second thought when it happened? Not the semi-collapse after, but just the play.

Folks on the internet are now making it sound like Tua got dropped off a 6-story building head first.

    • Mike E. says:

It was the Bills, specifically Matt Milano who pushed him

    • CavalierKong says:

When the play happened in real time, I thought nothing of it because we see that kind of QB push a hundred times a season.

Then on the replay I saw the stumble and went ‘oh, shyte, that’s a concussion, I can’t believe we lost the game this way’.

Then on another replay I said ‘that’s a pretty severe reaction when it doesn’t look like he hit his head that hard’.

Then they said it was his back, and I said ‘ok, that makes sense since it doesn’t look like he hit his head that hard.’

  25. Mike E. says:

Stanger – To answer your question – It looked like his head and neck snapped pretty good, when you’re falling back like that, your body hits and then then your head follows and it always looks bad. It’s impossible to know though how bad the impact is, especially wearing a helmet. They could tell me he had a concussion or damage to his neck and I wouldn’t bat an eye at either. It wasn’t a violent collision, but everyone’s bodies deals with the impact differently.

    • stangerx says:

Think it wasn’t a violent collission is where I started from. I’ve gone straight back like that a hundred times, and normally with someone driving me into the turf. And never with a helmet on.

  27. Tim Knight says:

The way Tua hit his head in the Bills game was nothing like the way he hit his head last night. I think there is too much speculation to blame multiple people for something that didn’t happen. Tua did not have a concussion in the Bills game but people are running with that because that’s what people do these days on social media.

  28. Mike E. says:

Herd – that’s something that so many non Dolphins fans don’t realize. I don’t think McDaniel would do that either

  32. mf13ss says:

I am so fucking tired of the American media… and the sports media is indistinguishable from the political media, being they are the one and the same as they are backed by the same establishments.

ESPN radio was absolutely unbearable today. I guess we didn’t know that the media truly LOVES Tua! He is their golden child and somebody HAS TO PAY for his absolute mistreatment by the Miami Dolphins and the NFL. What the Miami Dolphins did was MAKE Pop Warner kids want to dismiss concussions because they want to emulate the pros they look up to… this is some of the fucking shit I heard today.

Want to hear more? I heard (from a paid host!) that Mike McDaniel should be put in JAIL if Tua doesn’t recover… that McDaniel is a slimy, sleazy worm who tried to sabotage Tua’s career… that Tua’s trajectory was on pace with some of the all-time greats of the game.

I could go on and on and on, but I think y’all get the gist. Since when did the media hold Tua in such high regard, right? I’m fuckin’ disgusted with the whole American media right now, more so than I have been since the war began a generation ago.

    FUCK THE MEDIA šŸ˜”

    • mf13ss says:

*their war began a generation ago

    • Tim Knight says:

The media today isn’t just the big networks, it’s the everyday dorks on social media who know everything about everything. It’s not about opinions anymore. It’s about I’m always right and anything that questions them is null and void. It’s a psychological/societal disorder. Facts and truth don’t matter anymore. Only what I think.

  33. bailbondmike says:

HARDY released a new one this week also.

  34. mf13ss says:

    Naples,

GRAND to see you back, safe and sound! You had us worried, sir.

  35. mf13ss says:

And I am SO, SO happy that Tua looks to be okay after what looked to be life-changing event last evening!

    • Tim Knight says:

He was on the plane sitting with coach McDaniel watching goofy movies. Society always wants to blame someone for everything. Even natural storms are somebody’s fault. It’s becoming absurd. As if life isn’t really life anymore.

I think people dwell in too much fiction and fantasy these days.

      • mf13ss says:

I tend to think that it’s all intentional. Remember when Kanye West blamed GWB for H. Katrina, stating that he doesn’t like black people?

Everything has become political (and racial), my man… and I do NOT like it.

      • Tim Knight says:

It is intentional by humans of all walks of life. I think those of us humans who have had the benefit to grow up in more evolved civilizations are becoming very petty about everything. We can blame the elites and powerful people all we want, but the populous is just as guilty.

  36. bailbondmike says:

    Here’s one more from HARDY.

  37. son of a son of a shula says:

For Tua and everyone dealing with asshole Ian

  38. mf13ss says:

I’m NOT in a good mood this evening! LOL

But seriously, I’m not. I’ve been keeping the Nord Stream ‘bombing’ to myself on this board, but I’ve got a very bad feeling of what will ultimately come of it. That and the hurricane, rising prices everywhere, unrest everywhere I look, and now Tua.

  39. son of a son of a shula says:

Governor Desantis flew right over my roof top today in his fancy helicopter. The guy has been nonstop since all this began with the threat to Tampa. The rivers are rising really bad and causing massive flooding. Just at the bottom of the street I live off of there are houses with water up to and into the windows. Gator and water moccasin infested waters among who knows what else. My neighborhood is called Twin Rivers and folks they are trying to become one. All part of the St Johnā€™s waterway which is completely full from all the rain in Daytona and north holding back our water here. Itā€™s getting bad. The St Johnā€™s is one of the few rivers that runs South to North. We always used to say itā€™s because Georgia sucks lol. Well suck harder please.

    • Tim Knight says:

Is it true Desantis didn’t support federal assistance for the northeast after Sandy? I’m seeing a lot of posts about that on social media.

      • son of a son of a shula says:

        I donā€™t know

      • Tim Knight says:

I don’t either. I really don’t follow politicians. I know a lot of people in Florida who really like him and he’s popular among conservatives and Republicans. But I’ve always seen hypocrisy in all politicians during my life.

      • son of a son of a shula says:

But I do know it wasnā€™t him who abandoned thousands of Americans and billions in weapons/supplies and equipment in Afghanistan

      • Tim Knight says:

        That was a disaster.

  40. mf13ss says:

    RIP, Coolio.
Acoustic version with LV (of South Central Cartel, they know me)

    • mf13ss says:

That isn’t my guy LV on this version.

    • bailbondmike says:

There is a guy I bond out every year whose nickname is Coolio. Looks like his identical twin. He’s a good guy and only gets arrested for driving on a suspended license. He is considered a habitual offender. He is a well sought-after cook. He recently left the upscale restaurant he was working downtown to run the kitchen at the new Felix’s on Pensacola Beach. He fell in a hole many years ago having his license suspended for unpaid child support (4 kids with 3 baby mommas). He gets a ride 80% of the time but can’t miss work when he doesn’t have a ride, so he drives and eventually gets caught. He is no longer behind on child support, but the state has revoked his license for 10 years. I feel bad for the guy. All he does is go to work and go home. He works open to close 5-6 days a week, he said.

  41. Mike E. says:

Damn Sonny, hope for the best for you guys and your town. Hang in there pal!

  42. son of a son of a shula says:

The devastation at FMB is equal to what Andrew did to Homestead but not as wide spread, everything on Estero Island (Fort Myers Beach) is obliterated. It breaks my heart.

I heard a band do a cover of this at The Thirsty Whale down there several years ago for a 4 piece band they sounded exactly like Alan Parsons
    RIP Whale
    itā€™s leveled

  43. mf13ss says:

So here’s the ‘silver lining’, if you will. We’re entering a soft spot in our schedule just now: stej, Vikes, Stealers*, Lions, and Bears.

If Teddy can carry us through some of these softies, Tua should/could be back and ready to go when our schedule gets more difficult over a month from now.

Our Defense needs to pick it up and I think they will, provided we have a healthy X and Byron. I think X needs to take a week off to heal that hammy.

    • son of a son of a shula says:

Teddy did some things I can get inspired by he avoided pressure pretty well and he threw some sharp passes. Heā€™ll get reps and the plays he likes get some energy going, Cheetah still here he alone will make Teddy better or hungrier or whatever. We might be alright.
For the record after considering the angles I support Teddy over Skylar this time. If it had been a season ender for Tua then I might want Skylar. Weā€™re 3-1 I want the vet. The vet needs to get inspired and this team will do that.

  44. son of a son of a shula says:

When we had Charlie in 04 it tore us a new ass but it was all wind it took down the whole tree not just branches like this time. Almost no one got any roof damage this time but with Charlie practically everyone needed a new roof, but there was no flooding.
Itā€™s got to be way cheaper for the insurance companies to do everyoneā€™s roof than do even 10% of that number in water and mold mitigation, tear outs, kitchens, baths, floors and on and on. Shit a crew will do your roof in one day. The flooding is an almost endless project.

  45. uwantwat says:

Great news you’re all okay Naples. Everyone was worried about you and your family. Still terrible about all the devastation though. Stay well.

  46. naplesfan2010 says:

    Thank you, MF13.
    We’re still boiling water here,
and many trees are knocked down into the streets,
    and a few into houses.
but otherwise, my neighborhood is ok.
It looks weird though, because all of our evergreens,
even many bushes, have been stripped.

Trees with no leaves looks like winter up north. Very strange.

  47. naplesfan2010 says:

    Thanks, uwantwat.

It’s funny in a way, but for past hurricanes, I’d have gotten out my chain saw and starting cutting up the trees that are down, trimming mangled branches, and cutting down the 15 foot tall palm stumps that will never grow back.

I’m just too old now to be climbing in trees with a running chain saw dangling off my hip. I can barely change a light bulb any more.

My wife made me get rid of my chain saw.

So I help out now by carrying loads to the curb.

  48. naplesfan2010 says:

I still haven’t heard from my brother, though.

  49. randydolfan1947 says:

SO GLAD YOU and your Mrs. are OK. AND let us know when you hear from your brother.

A neighbor of ours 5 houses down the street loaded up his big Dodge Ram and hooked up about a 12-15 foot covered trailer and took hundreds of hot dogs, hamburgers and buns, plus hundreds of bottles of water plus other survival necessities and drove about 150+ miles down into your area yesterday. He came back around 7-8 PM here and gave me his account of what’s left of the Ft. Myers vicinity.
    It was SHOCKING AND TERRIBLE!!!

HIS NAME IS “kyle” and he’s about 6 foot 6 inches and about 275 pounds of muscle.
    What a saint he is!!

  50. randydolfan1947 says:

SPEAKING ABOUT BIG GUYS, our favorite team is paying a huge price for NOT upgrading the O-Line sufficiently to protect TUA or whomever happens to be our QB of the moment. For OVER A DECADE I’VE BEEN PLEADING AND BEGGING the Dolphins’ Front Office to shore up the O-Line. Bottom line is they didn’t do it this past off season. NO DRAFT CHOICES FOR THE O-LINE!!

All you guys who are so enamored with Grier need to ask him “When are you and your boss (ROSS) gonna WAKE-UP and fix this 10 year problem?? How many Dolphin quarterbacks are going to go down??

AND NOW, of course, Little Stevie Blunder has cost us TWO high draft choices, including a #1 choice, because of his egregious violations of NFL policy. I’d swear, if I didn’t already know better, that ROSS is an agent for the Pats, the Jets and the Bills and is doing things to lessen Miami’s chances of returning to the Super Bowl.

He held that ball way too long in the sack

      Thatā€™s not on the OL

      • randydolfan1947 says:

Thanks for making me feel better, Piggy.
BUT face the facts. This O-Line has been, and remains, one of the worst in the NFL for about a decade. They can’t run block consistently. And they can’t pass block hardly at all.

Had Tua released the ball about a half second earlier he STILL would have gotten hit HARD, Just as he did in the Milano mugging.

AND THAT IS ON THE O-LINE.

        AND ON GRIER.

        AND ON ROSS!!

OUR decade long O-Line problems represents an organizational failure!!

    • Ken says:

      The OL has definitely improved

2 sacks against New England. 1 in 51 drop backs against the Ravens. 2 against the Bills. OL is doing fine. Even really well protected QBs can get Hurt

  55. CavalierKong says:

Tua held the ball 5 seconds on the play he got hurt; he had a full 4 seconds before he got pressured.

  56. steveccnv says:

The biggest BS lie ever (see last line at bottom) gas stations set the price, but when oil companies charge them more the price goes up, so the oil companies set price

    Chevron Richmond issued this statement:

Many factors figure into the price of a gallon of gasoline including some unique ones specific to California. In addition to the price of oil, other factors include the competitive conditions in the marketplace, the higher cost to produce gasoline to the specifications required by the California Air Resources Board, costs associated with fuel distribution, local, state and federal taxes, California carbon-compliance costs, recent inflationary pressures, and fixed costs of doing business that are often higher in California relative to other states (e.g., the cost of commercial real estate). The majority of our branded stations in California are owned by independent businesspeople who make their own decisions about the prices to charge at their stations.

    • CavalierKong says:

Oil companies set the floor price, stations can set their own price based on location.

Google Chevron gas prices in Sacramento right now, you’ll see they range from 6.50 all the way to 7.30. Location determines how much over the floor stations can charge.

      • steveccnv says:

Different locations charge more based on location due to cost to be at that location

A gas station in general sets their margin, so if it costs them $3 a gallon after calculating the margin at say 33%, they may charge $4, but if it goes down to $2 for their cost, they aren’t going to charge $5, like the price is suggesting

      • steveccnv says:

        Spell checked, like the Prick…

      • CavalierKong says:

Ah yes, good point, you’re right.

Obviously rent, utilities, etc are going to vary location to location and can easily account for an $.80 per gallon difference.

Independents can set their own margins which depending on location can account for some differences in prices, but those margins aren’t likely massive; cost of the location is likely a much bigger factor.

Surprised they fired the neurologist so quickly. You would think they’d have a panel of doctors review the file and come to a consensus opinion

    —————–

IDYLLWILD, Calif. (AP) ā€” Two rock climbers, including a former NFL player, were found dead near a Southern California peak after rescue crews responded to reports of injuries, authorities said.

The climbers were identified Thursday as Chelsea Walsh, 33, and Gavin Escobar, 31.

  59. Tim Knight says:

The hit on Tua was on him extending the play, not the OL. The OL has played much better this season allowing Tua time to throw a lot more deep passes.

    • Tim Knight says:

On the play Tua got hurt he had bootlegged out and had clear throwing lanes but didn’t find anyone then reversed back the other way where the defender caught him. It’s hard for the OL to know what he’s doing there. It was an unfortunate play. I don’t think anyone really deserves blame for it. It’s a football game.

  60. New Age says:

Hate watching ‘professional opinion experts’ swarm like flies on shit. In the end, a professional used the NFLPA’s standard to allow Tua to play the game with no negative results until something bad happened. Tua wanted to play and maybe lied to get to. It’s so weird to see a nation that supposedly values freedom so much restrict it as often as they do. America is a nanny state but the Dolphins have played some good football at times this year. Lots of improvement needed but I loved ho w we were doing and hope to see the Jets crushed next week.

Hope everyone in Florida is ok and doing well.

Spoke with a Stealers* fan and good friend today. He thinks the league is going to take away another 1st round draft pick from us.

    • Tim Knight says:

It wasn’t the team fault in any way. Tua was cleared whether he should or shouldn’t have been. But it was nobody on the team’s call. That’s on the NFL. They should be giving us one back.

      • mf13ss says:

You KNOW I agree with ya 100%!!! But the media has already cast its web and influenced everybody outside of our fanbase to chastise us.

      • mf13ss says:

That’s the real danger here… will the NFL cave to the wishes of everybody, that we should be penalized?

  64. mf13ss says:

    This…

  65. mf13ss says:

    This…

  66. mf13ss says:

Seriously think about it… if Matt Milano or Josh Tupou had done to Tom Brady what they did to Tua, they’d face certain suspensions.

  67. Ken says:

The firing of the neurologist sounds like a political move by the NFLPA. They called for an investigation and yet it was their own MD that put Tua back on the field

  68. stangerx says:

Did this one hit the board? Doesn’t like any lingering problems btwn Fitz and Tua.

  69. Tim Knight says:

Teams don’t control concussion protocol, the league does so not sure how we could be penalized for anything.

  70. Tim Knight says:

All I’ve heard is the tests Tua has had there was no structural damage but has he been diagnosed with a concussion or is it just assumed?

    • Ken says:

It was definitely head trauma. Concussion is a very amorphous diagnosis. I should the picture of Tuaā€™s hands above to my neurosurgeon brother and what he said is that Tua was actually having a seizure on the field from the head trauma

  71. CavalierKong says:

    https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-and-nflpa-announce-they-will-make-changes-to-concussion-protocol-after-tua-tagovailoa-incident/

“The NFL and NFLPA agree that modifications to the Concussion Protocol are needed to enhance player safety,” the statement read. “The NFLPA’s Mackey-White Health & Safety Committee and the NFL’s Head Neck and Spine Committee have already begun conversations around the use of the term ‘Gross Motor Instability’ and we anticipate changes being made in the coming days based on what has been learned thus far in the review process.”

    • CavalierKong says:

They’ll find the Dolphins did not violate procedure, they fired the neutral specialist, they’ll make changes to the process to close a perceived loophole or two, the end.

      • CavalierKong says:

We’ll still be killed in the media to the tune of “The Dolphins may not have technically violated the established protocol, but they circumvented the spirit of the rule, which is to protect the player, when they sent Tua back out to play knowing he had a head injury.”

No way McDaniel wins coach of the year now.

      • Tim Knight says:

Right like a player has to miss at least one game and reevaluated during the time leading up to the next game.

      • CavalierKong says:

Yep, I could see them implementing ‘any signs of gross motor instability and the player does not reenter that game’, basically removing the neurological criteria.

  72. Tim Knight says:

I think everyone is for player safety but this idea that the Dolphins are at fault by anyone doesn’t know how the system works. If a player is cleared by the league it’s on them. Nobody else can overrule that. This is purely on the NFL.

  73. mf13ss says:

I find it insulting that the media follows the so-called “science”, after they redefined what science is to them. They can eat a bag of shit.

  74. Mike E. says:

I have friends that are saying Dolphins should have known better and put Tua in harms way playing him 4 days after sustaining a head injury. It’s ridiculous, they’re supposed to ignore what a doctor tells them and make a decision on the way his head snapped after the Matt Milano shove. No matter what we do It’s never right

    • Tim Knight says:

Right because they talked with Tua after the Bills game and knew the play against Cincy would happen. That’s the absurdity I ignore.

      • Mike E. says:

Drives me crazy. They’ve been watching football all their lives and they know a concussion when they see it. Look, we all saw him stumble, but we also saw him cleared by a neurologist, and we saw him make a beautiful 60 yard TD throw on 3rd and 17.

      • Tim Knight says:

He was in la la land during that throw don’t you know. šŸ˜‰

      • Tim Knight says:

Not a 60 yard TD throw but a 45 yard throw to Waddle to set up a TD.

    • steveccnv says:

I agree with them, in retrospect it would’ve been the right thing to do, knowing what another hit to the head within 4 days would do

As far as him going back into the game, it’s on the Dr and Tua, Tua knew it was his head

  75. Mike E. says:

Tim – yeah, just the point that it was a pinpoint long throw, but he was probably wobbly and off balance and seeing double

    • Tim Knight says:

Yes, I was just pointing out the real play. It’s the same thing though. People are acting like he was playing goofy. That’s simply not true.

  76. bailbondmike says:

Damn, what a first 22 hours at work this weekend. I was finally able to chill and watch some football. This NC State/Clemson game is a slug fest! Clemson has some momentum now.

Not watching the UGA game but that halftime score is a shocker.

    • steveccnv says:

The Clemson QB Ukulele is painful to watch. U want as many good teams as possible to win to keep Alabama out of playoffs

  77. bailbondmike says:

Just got done doing the books for the boss. We did over 1.3 million dollars in bonds (not fees paid but total liability in bonds) in September. Coupled with our GPS/House Arrest/Alcohol Monitor and Drug Patch business we cleared our monthly overhead by well over 100k last month.

Why is BBM happy for his boss? My quarterly bonus checks are based on a percentage of how much we clear overhead.

Going to overhaul my surf fishing arsenal with 4 new 9′ Ninja Dagger surf rods with Penn reels amongst a bunch of other shit. We don’t have big surf here so 9′ is plenty.

I need to buy more ammo also. šŸ˜‰

  78. bailbondmike says:

I still have a sick feeling in my stomach about losing Tua for quite a few weeks, at least. Haven’t thought about the loss much at all since Friday morning.

Will be interesting to see how the team responds on the road again at the Jets.

  79. steveccnv says:

College football sucks, not only is the regular season just keep Bama out, if you don’t have a QB that has college IT your team has a 99% chance to not be good

Few exceptions like Clemson, UM’s QB is good, but wrs are hurt

  80. steveccnv says:

What we don’t know is how the conversation at HT went

Did the Fins give a wink to the Dr, then show them the loophole?

Did Tua talk everyone into it?

The Dr likely didn’t want to do it, but was probably talked into it

    • Ken says:

I donā€™t believe that. I have handled medical licensing disciplinary proceedings. I know the risk involved for that doctor in doing so and I am sure that doctor knows as well

  81. bailbondmike says:

Interesting. For those who still want a big back, the Titans have released 5’11 228 lb RB Julius Chestnut. He made their 53 because they were afraid he would not clear waivers. They released him hoping to pick him back up on their PS.

He was an UDFA out of Sacred Heart.

    • steveccnv says:

We don’t need to get lots of yards rushing, we just need the threat of an RB going a long way, both Mostert and Edmonds do that

All these great RBs do their thing for a few weeks and everything is rosy, then they get stuffed one week and the team loses

Don’t want to be run on 1st and 2nd downs, then have to throw for 3 or 4 yards every other series

  82. steveccnv says:

    Bullshit

I was excited to get my first sack,ā€ Tupou told the Bengals official website on Friday, ā€œbut at the same time itā€™s tainted because I didnā€™t want to hurt Tua. I never intended to hurt him.

  83. steveccnv says:

How can these maroon announcing the game not know Reggie Bush had eligibility issues and why his jersey wasn’t hanging in the coliseum?

You’d think someone working the game, part of TV crew, would send the message to them

    • steveccnv says:

He even gave his Heisman back

    • naplesfan2010 says:

      are just playing around
to make it seem less strong of an insult

  84. steveccnv says:

The names of the MLS teams are very unoriginal, every other team copies the name of a Euro team, either FC, United, or Real

  85. Ken says:

The fencing response is an unnatural position of the arms following a concussion. Immediately after moderate forces have been applied to the brainstem, the forearms are held flexed or extended (typically into the air) for a period lasting up to several seconds after the impact.

    • Ken says:

That is what happened to Tua. To me it is totally unrelated to anything that happened the week before

      • steveccnv says:

You’ll defend to the end no matter the evidence

      • Ken says:

No thatā€™s the evidence. Itā€™s accute trauma. Which means it was related to the one hit. What he had is called a fencing sign seizure. It is a direct response to accute trauma to the brain stem

      • steveccnv says:

And you don’t think it’s possible the previous hit weakened him at all making him more susceptible for other head injuries?

So why fire the Dr that approved Tua to go back on the field?

Why have the concussion protocol at all, if there’s no harm to coming back too soon?

      • Ken says:

The NFLPA fired their doctor because they look stupid for calling for an investigation when it was their doctor that let Tua back on the field. I would really like to hear what that doctor has to say but he is not talking

  86. naplesfan2010 says:

The hand posture that Tua displayed is commonly seen in cerebral palsy victims.

It has been explained as a coping mechanism for them
as they try to settle overactive brain messaging and regain control.

Some have so much extra brain activity that they are never really able to straighten their hands into normal configurations for any length of time

and even speaking to them provokes that response you saw in Tua’s hands.

  87. bailbondmike says:

Hope it isn’t too soon as I said what happened to Tua still makes me sick to my stomach, but can that hand posture response happen when you get nailed in the nuts?

Just asking cause I swear it happened to me before.

  88. bailbondmike says:

Hopefully we can get some satisfaction out of week 4 with these results:

    Texans over Chargers
    Falcons over Browns
Titans/Colts is a tossup for me
    Ravens over Bills
Eagles over Jags though the last undefeated going down won’t bother me
    Steelers over Jets
    Raiders over Broncos
    Packers over Patriots
    Rams over 49er’s (Monday night)
