As Naples was able to convey so clearly, this roster is basically set. There are only a couple of spots on the roster in which anyone drafted in this 2023 NFL Draft can make even the slightest impact on this season, and beyond. With that in mind, let’s once again look at those spots and the players that could have a chance to make that impact. To me, Tight End is the easiest. We have two blocking TE’s, Durham Smythe and Eric Saubert, and then we have a tweener, Tanner Conner, who was a former college WR converted to a TE. Realistically though, Conner is at best what we hoped former Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki, a dangerous receiver. Neither Smythe or Saubert has proven that they can be reliable receivers, but Conner has elite speed for the position (4.37 40) and hops as well with a nearly 40″ vertical. I’ve already illustrated that neither TE is a true receiving threat between Smythe and Saubert, they have a total of 121 receptions, 88 for Smythe over 5 seasons, and 33 over 6 seasons for Saubert, 3 TD’s for Smythe, 2 for Saubert. Those career totals don’t add up to one season for Niners TE George Kittle, who HC Mike McDaniel had the services of in SF as the Offensive Coordinator.
This brings us to Darnell Washington, who already has established that he’s a solid in-line blocking TE, with the size to get bigger, and he’s already shredded. His pass catching is more on potential than actual production, or he’d likely be the first TE off the board. Taking into account that TE is probably one spot where someone could potentially slide into early on, I wouldn’t be upset if we traded up to get him, and it looks that might be a necessity to guarantee he’s on our roster. If your roster is already mostly set, and you only have 4 picks, none of them on day one, and two of them on day 3, I see nothing wrong with acquiring one impact player in exchange for one of our 3 other picks. I think Washington has the size and speed to become a good receiver, and the fact that he could line up now and block on the line and downfield just as easily makes him an easy choice.
Another position where I think a player could help us right away is RB. Let’s face it, we have a RB room that screams “Running Back by Committee!!” There’s not one feature back on our roster, and one half of our RB room is signed through ’24, the other half on year contracts. Adding a versatile RB like Jamhyr Gibbs would be an easy pick. Gibbs increased his carries and receptions each year, and was a big part of the Alabama offense. He has a similar skillset to Mostert, Ahmed and Gaskin, in that he’s a very good receiver out of the backfield, can run either between the tackles, and has the speed to break a big run at any time with 4.36 speed. Mostert had career highs in carries (181) and yards (891) in his 8 year career. Wilson also had career highs last season, splitting the season between the Niners and Dolphins, finishing with 176 carries and 860 yards. None of our backs have played an entire season as a lead back getting the lions share of carries. Adding some young talent to the pool makes sense. Improve the depth, and very likely, one of either Ahmed or Gaskin would be either released or traded.
To me, it sure seems like the Dolphins staff is committed to developing OG Liam Eichenberg. If it were up to Ken, we’d have already moved on from Eich, but even Ken knows we invested an early 2nd RD pick, in order to do so we traded up from #50 and traded an additional 2022 3rd pick to get to #42 to take the Notre Dame OL. It’s sensible to get something back on your investment if you truly see the potential there. He absolutely has not realized that potential as of yet, and RT Austin Jackson is certainly on his last chance, being 2024 would be the fifth year option for Jackson, a $14M + decision, in which Jackson would need a standout year to have the Dolphins pick up that 5th year option. To think the Dolphins may spend another 2nd RD pick on an OL is not folly. I don’t think anyone here would be disappointed if we went that direction. Once again, there are a couple of interior OL that could give Eich a run for his money in this draft. TCU OG Steve Avila is a massive lineman, 6’3.5, 332 lbs., who is very light on his feet for such a big guy. He’s also a team captain, leader of men, and could potentially be a day one starter. Many here feel we need to upgrade the O-line, Avila could remedy that. Another OL I’ve mentioned is OL John Michael Schmitz. He is widely considered to be the top interior lineman, specifically OC prospect. I know some people get bent out of shape when you say we could move C Connor Williams to OG, (where he played 4 seasons for the Dallas Cowboys) and have Schmitz at C. Williams is a very solid player who played every-single-snap last season at C. He struggled some with high snaps, but otherwise it was hard to criticize his play. Schmitz is a true C that could step in day one, and moving Connor Williams to LG gives us a strong left side, with Armstead at LT and Williams at LG.
There’s always different ways to look at things, and we may just end up being patient, see who falls to our spot at each draft pick, and end up with 4 players, or we might get aggressive and package a pick or two to get a player. I’d prefer the latter, as I feel if we’re going to draft players in the 2nd RD and 3rd RD, these players better be roster worthy and at least in my estimation, should have some impact, even in their rookie season. Keep in mind we drafted LB Channing Tindall last season who made zero impact last season, but we’ve also seen Grier trade up for players he wants as he did with OG Liam Eichenberg. Whatever they do, I just hope these players we draft make our team better not only in the future, but this year as well.
GO DOLPHINS!!!

YES!
Our D will dictate that, by getting off the field, limiting those 10+ play drives, if they don’t we’ll be the same pretenders we were last year
The Heat mostly stunk it up in the first half last night, down 22 they rallied to get to within 4, but used to much energy getting back in the game and had nothing left late

calls that position the “deepest in the draft, by far” and projects that as many as 35-40 CBs from the 2023 class can play in the NFL.
The draft is deep in CB talent. Good thing is they all probably won’t get drafted. Need to find another Kohou.
I would hate to see the Jets get a draft like this.
https://draftwire.usatoday.com/lists/new-york-jets-2023-nfl-mock-draft/
They also had the Bills drafting Jahmyr Gibbs then a top 5 WR. They say the Bills are looking hard at the top 2 RB’s.
The draft they did for us sucked. lol
M13, add this kid to your watch list over the next 2 years. He is built (6’1 168) just like Emmanuel Forbes but should put on more beef before he is draft eligible.
He was a #1 recruit by FSU and Deon Sanders stole him and got him to go to Jackson State. Now, I believe, he is in the transfer portal to follow Deon to Colorado.
He is so good, he played both offense and defense for Deon at CB and WR. He had 2 INT’s with 1 pick 6 and 4 TD’s receiving as a freshman.
#12 CB/WR Travis Hunter
Regarding Cali, I’ll say as far as crazy laws, employment law there is too much to deal with. Since COVID, we have gone to a mostly remote work force, people can work from anywhere, but we have said no to California. Too much trouble, particularly if you’re just going to have a few people there.
Steve, what our D does really shouldn’t determine how much we run on O. I get your idea but they really should not be connected at all. We need to run more regardless of what happens on D, unless of course the other offense is scoring too much and we get into a shootout. Otherwise what does it matter to our offense if the D was on the field for 10 drive? Run a 10 minute drive of our own!
Fair enough, but if our D can get off the field, then our O gets more possessions, more runs
If we only get 4 possessions per half, then more passing will follow
Last year was horrible with time of possessions
Let’s see I’ve worked in Washington State, California (2), Texas (10+ and currently), Louisiana (3), Tennessee, Georgia, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, Idaho, Nevada.
California was in the Late 80’s Far North (Redding) and far South (El Centro)
Failed a Weld test in Bakersfield.
Lol at El Centro, our daughter married a navy guy, they moved into his grandparents home there, basically right across the street from 8, the backyard was BLM
For those that don’t know, 8 runs east/west and the southern border of the Chargers stadium in SD
Rosanne Rossanadana moment, El Cajon, not El Centro, so nevermind
El Centro is a little further east down 8
My wife lived in El Cajon. I met her just after she moved from there to Sacto.
Your wife is cool 😎
Well so are you LOL
Jahmyr Gibbs would be great in our offense. Talk about speed on offense. That would be scary.
Yeah, imagine having Hill 4.29, Waddle 4.37, Berrios 4.44, Gibbs 4.36 and Tanner Connor 4.37 on the field at the same time in a passing set.
Not sure there are defenses that could match that. Mostert is fast, Wilson runs physical and has deceptive speed and then you have Gibbs in the mix as a RB and he can line up as a receiver. He’s my favorite player in this draft for us but I don’t think he’ll fall to us.
Always lived in Winnipeg … spent 4 days in San Fran 8-10 years ago and loved it .. followed the fins on their Cali road trip last year .. San Fran was still nice , San Jose/ Santa Clara was a waste of space , on drive south Carmel was really nice. Rock slide closed the coastal highway north of Ragged Point so we had to go inland route to Cambria where we were booked in.. then drove back up to Ragged Point saw the Seal beach , then to LA.. stopped at Jahns bar and had a beer .. missed him as he was flying to Hawaii in hours .. not a huge fan of LA traffic LOL.
Here’s our roster breakdown as of now. It gives you an idea where we need more bodies and competition.
OL 11
TE 3
QB 3
RB 4
FB 2
WR 8
DL 6
ED 5
LB 4
CB 10
S 4
K 1
P 1
LS 1
Been to FL, MN, NDSD, MT/WY/MT/WY/ID/WA on another road trip west
Spent 3 days in Seattle..
2 trips to Vegas
3-4 days Foxborough/Boston patriots/fins game .. like to go back and see more of Boston
Cruise from La to and around Hawaii. ( best way to see the islands I think)
Many fests … including road trip to Key West.. that was very nice , but missed Phelonius ..
Green Bay game with Bookman and ER..
Few Viking games in Minneapolis
Mexico a few times, Jamaica a few times (favourite) , Cuba (no thanks)
Dominican, and a few Caribbean cruises.. hit Aruba, Cayman, Curaçao, and prolly a few others.. no more cruises except maybe a 3 nighter from Miami to Bahamas ..
Wife has no interest in Europe or anywhere not HOT ..
Toba, you’re quite the traveling wilbury.
We take every opportunity to get away from our LOVELY Winters 🤡
I don’t blame you.
You’ve probably seen more of the US than most Americans
Lol , well above there are some VERY WELL TRAVELLED members on here
The blog is well traveled
Had road trip planned just before COVID to Canton/Cleveland and Niagara Falls , but we had to cancel .. hope to do it in the future
I heard that the Packers GM and CEO are not on the same page with compensation. The Jets don’t want to give up their #13 draft pick. They also have two 2nd round picks #42 and 43. You know the Packers want at least one of those 2’s.
I can see the deal being those two 2’s and then a conditional pick in 2024 based on the success of the team related to Rodgers being the QB.
Interesting! I’m absolutely enjoying this ‘stare down’ situation! 😀
I’ve heard 9ers are lurking in the shadows , due to Purdy late season injury .. then would look to move Trey Lance
Toba, the Pats are also rumored to be a lurking team.
Booo
I saw that earlier. I guessed a month ago that it may happen right before or even during the draft.
Maybe the Jest even trade down and get more ammo to mitigate what they have to give up for Rodgers. That’d look smart if the opportunity is there.
As I stated yesterday, it sure seems to me that Lamar Jackson is waiting for the A-Rod domino to drop.
I agree with Manitoba that the 49ers are lurking in the shadows, and I think the Patsies* are lurking in the shadows for Lamar.
This whole story is FAR from over, IMO… and it has far-reaching implications.
Beer!!! LOL
Thank ya, sir! 😀
Hold that beer, I meant the Pats for Rodgers. But Jackson is also a rumor. 🙂
Doesn’t seem like the Ravens want to move on from Jackson without saying it? They offered him a contract they knew he wouldn’t accept but they’re saying all the right things.
Lamar ain’t going anywhere. He recruited OBJ to Baltimore.
Oh I didn’t know that. Just heard people suggesting that.
What kind of deal do you see getting done?
He will sign his tender. OBJ only has a 1 year deal
Lamar and OBJ were out in the clubs in Miami celebrating right after OBJ signed
I think the Jackson situation is really connected to the draft, not Rodgers.
Once the draft plays out, it’ll be clearer which teams still need help at QB, and those teams know exactly what options are left on the table. At that point any of those teams might test the waters with Jackson. How that plays out will tell Jackson and the Ravens who has the leverage, and they either get the deal done or Jackson plays on the franchise tag.
Amusingly though if the Rodgers trade happens right before or at the draft, then if Jackson follows soon after, we’ll never know if it was the draft or Rodgers that was the first domino, lol.
Manitoba:
I’ve been around Canada a bit. All work related trips. Quebec, Ontario and Alberta. I used to spend the entire month of June in Red Deer.
Nice .. so a bunch of you have been to Canada.. weird I have t seen y’all 🤡
I was in Quebec for a few hours when I was 18 so I was able to have a few beers with some pizza. LOL
Ken, so you think Jackson and OBJ go for a run and revisit it next year?
I have passed through Montreal airport once … overnighted in Toronto once or twice .. used to weekend in Kenora On regularly ( it’s 2 hours east of here ) grand parents lives there
I can’t see Bellicheck playing in the sandbox with Jackson
I have a hard time seeing that as well. Giving up the picks, giving a huge guaranteed contract, then the atypical way Jackson goes about his business.
He’d be a great fit for their offense though.
I heard that Indy could try to trade for Lamar. Same style QB that Shane Steichen had in Hurts. But if OBJ was a Lamar move maybe not.
Isn’t it cool that we have a HC in McDaniel who believes in Tua and last year showed what can be in year 2?
Okay I think I have it covered where I’ve been.
NJ, NY, CT, PA, MA, NH, RI, VT, MD, DC, DE, GA, SC, FL
Canada-Quebec-Montreal and Mexico
The way I’m hearing it, Mac Jones is in Belicheat’s* dog house. So do they try to trade up (king’s ransom) to get one of the top-4 (unproven) QBs this year, or do they trade for former NFL MVP Lamar Jackson?
Dunno, don’t really care, but I’m hearing Belicheat* is waiting in the shadows to see what happens.
That QB situation in Patsie* Land is unsettled and fugly.
Yeah Mac Jones went outside the organization to help him with his game and Belichick wasn’t happy about it.
Perhaps nothing materializes until the Draft, but something is going to happen…
Here’s what I HOPE happens…
1) A-Rod says ‘psych’! I’m remaining a Packer!
2) Lamar says ‘psych’! I’m remaining a Raven!
Then I/we laugh at the stej and Patsies* misfortunes! 😆
LOL, that leave the Jets with Wilson and probably another rookie.
You got it! LOL
Second time I’m coming at y’all with this on this board: do NOT sleep on Darius Rush, CB, South Carolina. I’d not be surprised at all if we drafted him.
3rd round?
Yup… 3rd round. I would not be surprised.
I did a list of positions I don’t think we’ll target in the draft a week ago or so and CB was not one of them. Corners are always high on every teams’ list.

Thanks, Bro! Deion KNOWS the CB position like nobody else’s biz.
The addition of Jalen Ramsey is a big deal. Fangio is going to move him around in matchup situations. This week I like you against their top WR, next week against their TE. Then the hybrid stuff as a rover blitzing and as a safety. That’s the kind of player he is.
X is more of a pure corner so he’s out there covering other receivers and everyone knows he’s a ballhawk.
Holland might have that 1st team all-pro breakout season under Fangio. Most talking heads love Holland. We all see it as fans.
Then we have some other quality DBs who can do different things. But those three are the core. It’s all about health.
If I was a DC I’d love to have this core group in the secondary. It’s rare not common.
I love this nickel defense.
ED Phillips
DT Ogbah
DT Wilkins
ED Chubb
LB Baker
LB Long
CB Ramsey
CB Howard
CB Kohou/Needham
SS Jones
FS Holland
I’m just into this at this time. LOL
ED Phillips 3
DT Ogbah 8
DT Wilkins 5
ED Chubb 6
LB Baker 6
LB Long 5
CB Ramsey 8
CB Howard 8
CB Kohou 2/Needham 5
SS Jones 4
FS Holland 3
Lots of experience. Fangio as DC. He took this job knowing he had something to work with. Then adding Ramsey was huge. This defense should be a terror. We have depth too.
Tim definitely had some Dolphins playoff dreams last night with the Dolphins winning 31-0 over the Bills. lol
I dreamt my ex-girlfriend was elected president. WTF is that about? lol
Was she orange, or senile?
LOL
Good to hear you are on the mend Piggy and well done with the mind over matter approach!
Fascinating reading the travels of the mob – I always think travel broadens the mind and makes you appreciate what you’ve got a lot!
Will do my US travels first – mainly football and business trips.
1st football trip was into Chicago – Illinois, then Green-Bay – Wisconsin, up into Canada through Ontario and back via Niagara (including a stop at the Brewing Company there) returning via HoF, so it took in NY State, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana according to the map. We then flew to Denver (furthest West I’ve ventured) for a game on Sunday and the Raiders Miami game on MNF. So that’s 8 US states and 2 countries ticked off on that trip.
Was best man at my mates wedding in Stowe, drove from one of the NY airports so that takes in NY, CT, MA and NH.
I took in a game at the Titans on another trip (Tenn), and been to the Bengals and Colts stadia on another trip but had those two bagged, so up to 13 States now.
Looking at the business schedule below:
1 Nov Manchester – Philadelphia US735 0945 – 1350
1 Nov Philadelphia – Miami US711 1540 – 1830
3 Nov Miami – Pensacola US8248 1635 – 1725
5 Nov Huntsville, Alabama – Charlotte US4017 1310 – 1537
5 Nov Charlotte – Indianapolis US4092 1630 – 1815
6 Nov Indianapolis – Houston UA204 1815 – 1954
10 Nov Houston – Philadelphia UA346 0738 – 1156
10 Nov Philadelphia – Providence, Rhode Island US3885 1755 – 1908
12 Nov Providence – Philadelphia US5856 1755 – 1922
12 Nov Philadelphia – Manchester US734 2050 – 0845 (13th)
This took me to Fla, Ala, GA, SC, NC and RI, so bagged another +5 = 18. Also been to San Antonio, Houston and Katy in Texas. Oops – nearly forgot St. Louis MI, so that takes me to 20 Satates. Hold the press, having another look at the map, I’ve also been to Detroit MI. Make that 21. I did some travelling with a distributor down the East Coast too, but not sure how far we got as I was a passenger and it’s a long-ass time ago. Maryland, Delaware and Virginia are possibles, but I’d need to do a lot more research to corroborate those claims, so 21 is my final answer for now.
Countries
England, Wales, Scotland and RoI (not NI yet).
France, Spain Portugal, Italy, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, through the old Yugoslavia on a train, so God knows how many countries that is now but been to Croatia since, Greece, Cyprus (S), Poland, Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Japan, China and S. Korea. Been to Canaries and Balearics Islands on holiday too, but that’s cheating. As is the Isle of Skye, which is not linked to Scotland by Road Bridge and Lindisfarne (Holy Island) which you can walk to when the Tide is out. As are the Channel Islands Jersey and Guernsey which I’ve been to. USA and Canada as above.
Apologies for self-indulgent length of post ………. trip down memory lane.
Now linked to Scotland (typo)
That’s awesome and not an indulgence…
2nd paragraph I would think and agree, too. But….
If Rodgers stays put or goes to like SF and Jackson stays put, I wonder if Pats or Jets make a draft day trade for Ryan Tannehill? I would hate it because I always liked him but hear he is on the trade table along with Henry.
Two weeks to draft day!
Wyoming, PFN updated their mock draft site. They now list possible players on the trade table. You can trade a combination of players and picks. They have Cedric Wilson and Iggy as players you can trade for us.
Wow UK. That’s a great list.
I’ve only been to Montreal in Canada and Kingston in Jamaica.
I love NW Europe.
I’ve been to England Switzerland Nederland and Deutschland. Also Belgium and France.
Dutch are really friendly people Naples, as I’m sure you found out. Belgians have the best range of beers – some of those Trappist beers have Govt health warnings!
This would be my draft strategy as well
identify five to 10 players who would be ideal fits, puzzle pieces, dream selections for your team at pick No. 51, and only move down if they are all gone.
As I’d rather have 1 2nd rounder hunt, instead of 2 3rds or later Long and Kindley
I agree with wanting one 2nd instead of 2 thirds.
That’s why I want to move up.
I’d rather get my one sure thing at #40 by trading the 51 and 84 picks.
So what’s the one place you all want to go and the one place you don’t?
For me, I still want to go to Tuscany.
And for some reason,
I really don’t want to go to Africa.
I’m going to make you really jealous now Naples. The company I work for has a factory in Tuscany. It’s really everything everyone portrays it to be. La Dolce Vita ++++. If you ever go, try to stay at an “Agrotourismo” establishment – a vineyard with accommodation. Fantastic food and wines, but that’s also true of most of Italy. As an aside, Stanley Tucci (married to a Brit) has done 2 wonderful series about what it is to be Italian (or for him, what it is to travel around Italy eating and drinking on expenses for half a year on expenses).
I’ve been lucky enough to visit the plant close to 10 times for meetings and audits. It never gets old. Head office is in Milano. Not as good, but not a hardship either!
NAILED the first 2 picks and didn’t have to trade up. Used Wilson and Iggy in a package deal with a 2024 6th then traded down once to get #185.
51. Drew Sanders LB Arkansas
84. Emmanuel Forbes CB Mississippi State
127. Braeden Daniels OG/OT Utah
160. Jakorian Bennett CB Maryland
185. Brenton Strange TE Penn State
197. Juice Scruggs OC Penn State
238. Karl Brooks DT Bowling Green
If we ended up with this my head would be spinning. lol
What kind of TE is Strange, blocker or receiver or both?
Sherfield was a good find last year, but he didn’t seem to get open much on 3rd down and didn’t take any pressure off of Hill and Waddle
Berrios should be able to do what Sherfield didn’t, so any receiving TE we pick up or draft would have time to get acclimated without pressure
Hope no one’s had too much grief from this? Stanger may be the closest from what I gather, but he’s up in the air as it were?
Heard about that last night, FL insurance has issue after issue
When I lived in Miami Springs, it would rain like he’ll, the streets would flood, but 20 minutes later the water was gone. Across the Miami River in Hialeah it would stay flooded for a long time
We had sewers, and drainage that took the water into the lake I lived on
Not sure what Ft Lauderdale’s problem is
I just looked into that. Holy crap, they had nearly 26″ of rainfall in a 24 hour period. That is unbelievable.
This was tweeted a few hours ago
Hey! I don’t see Iowa on many of these travel lists! What the hell? You bunch of Todds and Karens don’t like corn on the cob and a good steak!?!? Y’all don’t know what you’re missing’. 😜
😆
Bucket tourism numbers are way down.
Was in Des Moines for 4th of July one year, we went to the Cubs minor league game for fireworks, Stadium looked like a mini Wriggley, pretty cool, as for the rest of Iowa…
A few days later we crossed over the Nebraska border and stopped at the welcome center, we told the lady it was our son’s 50 state he visited
She said, that someone told her the same thing the previous week, and why is Nebraska the last state visited 😁
At least Iowa wasn’t that
Yeah, no one has been to West Virginia either! Or they aren’t admitting it. 😂
I was there, where we you😉
I was out of town! I didn’t have much advance notice on that. And I think Rock mentioned once he was in town but didn’t say a word until after he was gone. 🤔
That’s aiight, WV was beautiful even without you, we were there twice
My cousin from Miami, the one that attended the 2021 fest with me, has a house in Kentucky, so I’ll be back up in the WV area often after I move to FL
When I traveled internationally, people would ask where we were from, my girlfriend would say Nevada and they’d have this WTF look on their face
I’d say Las Vegas and they’d light up, with the ear to ear, everyone had an LV story to tell us
Steve,
I lived in Des Moines for a few years. I never went myself because I didn’t pay attention to baseball back then, but the Iowa Cubs games were always a big draw for folks. Iowa actually has some beautiful areas but most is flat farmland. At least we’re not Nebraska.
Des Moines seemed like typical old Town Midwest, the rest of Iowa we saw was cornfield after cornfield
Herd,
I’ve been in WV several times…including a trip on my cycle. One of my best buddies was born in WV. His family still has a big parcel of land up in the mountains. I love it. Beautiful State.
Naples, I would love to go to Tuscany! I was in Naples, Italy. LOL Didn’t venture out that far. Stayed south of Rome.
It’s been 30+ years but would like to go back to Portugal. Greece also. Didn’t get to see as much of Greece as I wanted.
I love swimming (even though I’m totally out of condition since Covid) but the caves down on the Algarve are beautiful BBM.
https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g189115-d5501809-Reviews-Carvoeiro_Caves-Carvoeiro_Faro_District_Algarve.html
Have stayed a few times down here. Never took a boat – just a pair of goggles and off I went. Skippers of the boats don’t seem to mind swimmers and keep a healthy distance. There’s so much coastline to explore, loads of fish and hidden beaches and caves only accessible from the sea. It truly is spectacular. Even saw a turtle on one of my excursions. No idea what the fishing is like for you, but eaten a lot others caught in restaurants. The piri-piri chciken is pretty damn good too. Portuguese wines are an acquired taste as many are made from grapes which only grow in Portugal, but perseverance pays!
Yup.. I left Cali 2 years ago and the only reason I go back is to visit family. The once beautiful state is now a shithole and getting worse. The only thing I miss is family, friends and the ocean.
Blast from the past – even has a flea-flicker thrown in at no extra cost!
Back to the present, this made me laugh
LOL
Herd, yes I have been to WV. My trips usually consist of the airport, the highway, the hotel, the highway the airport. LOL I strike and leave usually within one to two days.
The ONLY states I have not been to are Hawaii, Alaska, Idaho, Rhode Island, Oregon and Minnesota. I have slept in every other state.
Countries I have been to are much less. Canada, US, Bahamas, Mexico, Jamaica, Grand Cayman & Costa Rica

I wonder if Tua will elect to get one.

YES
Jack Campbell
I beena Tua NY Anda NJ. A thatsa it
You’ve been to Hollywood also. I’ve seen you there.
on the Broad Walk (spelling is correct)
Yep, I was joking 🙃
UK and BBM
I would love to go to the Algarve in Portugal, but I hear that Lisboa and Oporto are also very cool. Not sure I have those spelled correctly.
I also want to go to the South of Italy … yes Naples, although I hear that is a crummy place, but really just to get to Puglia, which I hear is awesome.
I always forget to mention the Greek islands, but they seem so picturesque.
Do they let old people go there?
I’m already too old for Ibiza.
Yeah, Naples was kind of crummy but had a friend stationed at the Naval Hospital there and he took me around.
Naples has beautiful countryside but the city itself is run down and full of crime. The desk person at the hotel told me to take off the chain I was wearing around my neck because otherwise it will get snatched while I am wearing it
Disco Ken
A small chain with a cross from the National Cathedral in DC when I used to be more religious
Santorini in the Greek Isles is amazing
UK, that sounds amazing. I was there a week but stayed in and around Lisbon the whole time. There was a lot to see. I believe I had the piri-piri chciken while there. Again, 30+ years ago. I just remember really enjoying myself there and it was not very expensive, atleast then.
Did you get any of these? They were delicious

Another traveling wilbury. Wow!!!
Is anyone supporting Dalton Kincaid @ TE for us?
I heard he is unlikely to make it out of round 1. Bengals will snap him up if he is there
Don’t see him being there for us.
Next year I hope to add Ireland
Jeff? LOL
Wrong place and no he is not welcome unless he is flying the plane
LOL
LOL @ Mike
Well shoot…Guess I gotta list the places.
US states – All of ‘em
US Territories – P.R., Guam, Saipan, US Virgin Islands
Abroad – Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, S. Korea, Japan, Russia, Kosovo, Bosnia, Germany, France, UK, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Norway, Israel, Somalia, Kenya, Chad, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Bahamas, Guatemala, Ecuador.
I think that’s all.
Dominican Republic
I can’t keep up with you guys in the military
Lol… Between the Corps and the State Department the Marines may have sent me to better places!
England not UK
I have a buddy that was in Operation Restore Hope.
Oi…forgot…add Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE (Dubai and Jebal Ali).
BBM – Perfect Ribs on your Masterbuilt. Smithfield extra meaty baby backs, your fav rub, 2-hours at 225-250. Pull them off, wrap in foil with about half cup of liquid (I use a beer, half stick of butter, half cup brown sugar), back on the grill for 1-hour. After the hour you can let them sit for 1/2 hour to an hour or finish them immediately. Finnish is baste in your bbq sauce back on the grill for 30-ish minutes. I use a kitchen torch to Carmelita the sauce at the end.
Not only are you a man of the world, but a grill master.
I just did 2 racks Monday. lol I do about the exact same except for the last 30 min back on the grill. I will have to do that. I have only done baby backs. I do mostly get Smithfield but this store had a sale for 6-7 dollars a rack so I bought 10 racks. They were meaty but maybe not extra meaty.
Question, can we set it to smoke any cooler? For fish or cheese? I was too lazy to look it up.
Default is 225, so you can only do hot smoke. That’s fine unless you want to smoke cheese or make lox (cold smoked salmon for the initiated). I smoke white fish and tuna on it.
At Louis style ribs take longer – 2 1/2, 1 1/2, 45 minutes. But you never get the right bite with St Louis style. Too much fat.
I agree on the St Louis. I thought fish would be fine. Caught a King off the pier last week so was going to make some smoked King Mackerel dip.
Maybe I will try smoking the cheese on top of a wire rack placed on top of a tray of ice. Seen a guy do it on youtube. Just have to dump the water and keep adding ice.
Found a smoked mac and cheese recipe that guy did that I want to try.
I will try to find it and post it.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/nfl/article-11969965/NFL-approves-use-quarterback-specific-helmet-league-looks-reduce-concussions.html
Phel, you’re not finding quality spare ribs if you think there is too much fat on them, especially if they are cut St Louis style.
Personally, I prefer a well cooked St Louis rack to babybacks, although babybacks are far more forgiving on the grill.
The method you’re using is the Texas crutch and a version of the 3-2-1 method (3 hrs bare, 2 hrs wrapped in the crutch, 1 hr bare).
I like the method but I change the timing up the same way you do. I find 2 hrs in the crutch is too long and makes the ribs mushy. I do a 3-1-1 or 2-1-1 depending on how long it takes my bark to set on the first part of the cook.
Yup, using a modified 3-2-1 and the Texas crutch. St Louis are hard to get the bite on. As you said too long in the crutch and they get mushy. Meat should pull away from the bone not fall off. I like St Louis style, but they are harder to get right.
Exactly, I’ve heard too many people say rib meat should fall off the bone. I always tell them that’s only if you’re cooking them in red sauce, lol.
That’s too much like work.
lol, that is true. Any backyard cook can get good grilling up chicken and steaks pretty easily. It takes practice and skill to consistently put out high quality ribs.
There is a lot of drinking involved.
😆
My grill isn’t capable of firing up unless I have a bottle of Bacardi ready to go
Damn! I want to make this now. LOL So he actually freezes the cheese also before putting it on.
Cav, you should try this.
I’ll definitely give that a look when I get home (can’t see vids on my work screen).
I always do smoked baked beans when I cook ribs, and I have a great recipe for that, but I’m still looking for the prefect smoked mac and cheese recipe.
Cheers 🙂
You gotta send me the baked beans recipe
Same here. He puts a roll of breakfast sausage on the smoker and smokes it until it is done at 165 degrees meat temp then chops it up and adds it to the mac and cheese.
have you guys ever tried marinating baby backs in Pepsi overnight before cooking them?
(I Prefer drinking Coke, but you have to do SOMETHING with that pepsi someone brought over.
I’m not a fan of marinating ribs. As far as marinades go, I’ve heard of dr pepper marinated ribs, but not pepsi. Any good?
That’s a personal choice of mine, not a diss on marinating ribs. I’ve had excellent ribs prepared that way.
With a side of Ring Dings?
Fried coca cola
I’m with Kong. Dry rub, no marinade. I like to brine pork shoulders and chops.
I haven’t marinated ribs either. I have done injections on a pork shoulder using Coke or Dr. Pepper. Not sure how much of a difference it made other than getting my seasoning into the meat. I guess it does tenderize it some.
Ooooh the next blog controversy
Coke or Pepsi?
LOL
When I’m drinking soda alone, I love Pepsi, Coke is too sweet for my tastes. But for my rum and Coke, absolutely nothing can substitute for the coke.
Coke. Fuck the new generation.
My buddy does them that way. Then he dries them and rubs them with his recipe of spice and sugar and stuff then he puts sause on at the end for about an hour.
the are great, but I always question how much the pepsi or coke adds.
Soda tenderizes, but ribs don’t need tenderizing. Good for stuff like skirt steak, tri-tip, etc.
too much sugar in that recipe
I hate sugar.
I don’t like sugar in my food.
neither during the cooking nor in a sauce or dressing
I don’t like any soft drinks,
but Coke is not as bad as Pepsi.
I do love Bourbon, though, and I guess that’s a type of sugar.
I always thought this group looked like the children of the Stepford Wives.
Cheeseburger Cheeseburger Cheeseburger
Coke no Pepsi
John Belushi
It was actually the opposite. I remembered it that way, but in the skit nobody could get what they wanted all they could get were cheeseburgers and Pepsi.
Ooooh the next blog controversy
—————-
Huh, and I thought it would be about Bud Light. lol
Instead it’s Coke vs. Pepsi.
Coke for me.
LOL, we already played with that topic.
So speaking to me as if I were 9,
since that is my skill level with cooking ribs,
Are you familiar with PF Chang’s dry-rubbed ribs?
I love those.
I’ve heard about them but never tried them.
Phel and BBM, if you don’t know of this guy already check out ‘Meathead’ and his site amazing ribs. com
I picked up a lot of good tricks and recipes from his site years ago, including his smoked baked beans. His bourbon bbq baked beans recipe is the base recipe I use for my own baked beans. I’ve modified it to my tastes over the years, but it’s an excellent recipe as is.
I’ll often buy a rack of spare ribs, cut it down St Louis style myself, cook the beans under the ribs, and cook the flap and rib tips along with the ribs (the are usually done when I pull the ribs out for the crutch), then pull the beans and add some of the rib tip meat to the beans. MMM…good
Now if I can find a perfect mac and cheese to go with that, I can the whole meal cooked on the grill at the same time.
Efficient!
LOL

Pepsi sucks
Coke forever!
Have you seen the Amazon commercial where the girl decides to keep her mustache? It’s definitely an identity narrative. I don’t really care how people live their lives as long as they don’t violate the rights of others.
But can we all agree there is an agenda to push this sort of thing on the public? Why does it have to be so in our face? Just live your life. Laws already on the books protect your right to life. Why does gender have to be such a big issue?
That is basically what Steve was arguing the other day. Despite the position I took, you guys are not wrong, there is a push to normalize it.
There are a ton of things I can say in response, but I don’t really want to have that debate again, especially when I don’t really even know my own feelings on it.
I can say, the only issues I take with it is the push towards younger kids. I couldn’t care less if most movies have a gay guy now, or a trans gal is on a beer can. It doesn’t affect me.
And most of us guys never felt the need to push gratuitous sex and T and A out of movies or commercials, but this makes you uncomfortable so ‘it shouldn’t be there’ – massive hypocrisy, lol.
There is and absolutely has been a concerted effort on the parts of advertisers to pander to every minority, no matter how minor that minority is. (0.000002% of the population)
I don’t need to see two dudes kissing on a dog food commercial but they apparently believe I do.
Exactly! It’s like gay people and minorities just appeared and nobody has ever known them before now. So we must be educated. What are you talking about? I knew classmates in 6th grade were gay. I went to school with kids of all races and colors. I guess I didn’t realize we were still in the 60’s. I find it strange, sorry.
no need to be sorry with me
Wasn’t directed at you, Rock. I type like I talk. I was speaking in general. You doesn’t mean “you”.
verbatim way too often?
“What would you like to drink?”
“Can I get a Coke”
“We have Pepsi”
“Can I get a Root-beer?
“Sorry”
“I’ll have an Ice Tea. Thanks”
I was talking to a friend of mine through work that is black and he joked to me that every commercial on TV has an interracial couple and laughed “there ain’t enough of us to go around man, you call can’t have one of us!”
You ALL can’t
Watching NFL live (Don’t get NFL network anymore so I record it on ESPN) and the teaser they threw out before the commercial was “we catch up with Tua and his rehabilitation”
Fuckers he isn’t rehabilitating from anything.
Kong, I totally get your viewpoint. I guess because I don’t care what people do as long as they don’t violate the rights of others, I don’t understand the movement at this time.
People having an issue with who they are biologically is a psychological issue. I’m no expert on that but it’s not exactly normal in the natural world.
It’s a highly charged issue that is blowing up right now. A lot of people have strong feelings on it, and people are entitled to feel the way they feel…no matter which side of the issue they are on. There is no easy answer, and this isn’t going away, lol.
Agreed
Lol…so we’re going there…and I’m old school.
All I know is there are X and Y chromosomes, and the combination makes a difference.
Mutation is part of evolution but survival of the species depends on propagation…lol
Oh my…wtf?
Like Rock said, but my words, why are the masses pandering to “nothing”. Perhaps, that’s harsh…
There’s a level of sensitivity that paralyzes growth…imo.
Awareness v sensitivity…
Cav, thanks! I saved that site and will check it out later.
I followed this recipe and it was amazing!
Is that the same guy in the mac and cheese vid? Those tacos look amazing. I’ll check that one out too when I get home.
I’m always looking for new ways to make tacos, lol.
Same guy
Rock
The way I remember those Belushi skits, after a while, he would respond to requests for Coke with “No Coke. Petsi” and to requests for Pepsi with “No Petsi. Coke!”
LOL
I love making the opponent slam his helmet into the bench when playing Madden
I am going to get a chance to play my Madden game one of these days. I just spend so much time either cooking or working on the house on weekends.
It’s part of the problem I have with today’s video games. They are way more complex, so you can’t just pick it up and play for an hour, then not play for a week, and pick it up again. You have to spend time to learn and retain all the controls and sh^t, so ther is no point in picking it up unless I can dedicate some real time to it.
I’m old, lol.
Hey I wish I was born to be a 6-4 265 Edge guy in the NFL. You know what, I wasn’t. How can I identify as that? What is the essence of being that? Uhhh… you’re not that. Stop calling me Uncle Rico!!! LOL
Cav, I understand where you are coming from. But, this is more about an agenda, IMO. This certainly can’t be a well thought out marketing strategy. They have already lost tens of thousands more, probably hundreds of thousands more of customers than they would have gained. I know 3 people (2 of them drink every day after work) who were diehard Bud Light drinkers. Said they will never drink it again. One switched to Coors Light and the other 2 to Miller Light. Yeah, these are hardnosed country boys. You can only push so much in their face. You can’t fuck with their beer. lol
From what I have heard is they already lost billions over this move.
“Since March 31, Anheuser-Busch is down 4.7 percent and lost about $4.56 billion, according to Dow Jones Market Data Group.”
They dropped another 1.5% just today.
It’s not just Bud Light, it’s affecting all Anheuser-Busch beverages.
So what is Busch getting out of this?
If they continue to lose money and pull this marketing campaign does that mean you were wrong?
Failed marketing campaigns happen all the time. If the pushback causes them to abandon this how is it any different.
It’s not necessarily agenda. It’s where our society is going.
I get that most old white guys aren’t going to be on board with this, but the US is starting to move away from the white male dominance that has determined these things since our inception. You can read it up the board with the dismissal of ‘minority’ stuff, lol. We’re starting to see it in all facets, not just with transgender and gay.
People can rail about it being the liberals and democrats, but there are people behind them voting them in. Better get used to it, lol.
Cav, I agree though I am not one to put a liberals and democrat label on it. I guess I will never get used to it. There were things my Dad never got used to. lol
I’ll never get used to some of it either, but I’m trying. I can see the direction the wind is blowing, lol.
Kong, it’s not about older white males. Most black males despise homosexuality. There has always been a rumor that they also don’t like going down town on women. If you want to add all other cultures, most males are against alternative lifestyles.
I have friends who consider themselves liberal Democrats but they’re not into gay marriage etc. This agenda is targeting the majority population.
Why?
What is this about? Lol…I think I know but I can’t say it nicely.
I actually believe that pushing the gender issue will ramp up violence against them from the unhinged. Live your life, let it be.
It’s all about keeping up the angst and division.
^
This guy owns an NBA Team, an NHL Team, a Premier Football League Team and now the Washington Commanders
Different cities too.
Damn!
What, no baseball team? Cheap ass
The only tacos I like are birria.
I had never heard of them before until I came across that video and my wife is half Mexican. lol
My 2 cents on the gender issue. One of my best friends has twin daughters, I’ve known them since they were babies. Now they’re all grown up and one of the twins is now James. It’s been a really tough time for my friend. It’s not that she doesn’t accept it or is intolerant, it’s the little things. Family photos on the wall that she was asked to take down. Or she slips up and uses the wrong name or pronoun. I can’t imagine how to deal with that.
My daughter has a couple of friends that have switched and the name thing is the hardest part for me.
We sat down and had a conversation, and I put it bluntly as I can accept this is who you are and respect this is how you want to be addressed, but you have to accept that if I slip and say her instead of him, it isn’t some slight to you or me disrespecting, and you can’t freak out, it’s because you’ve been her to me for 10 years and it takes time to adjust. It can’t be a one way thing.
So far, it’s been respectful both ways.
Tim, if you don’t think straight white males have been the overwhelmingly main driving force for what we see and hear on tv, in movies, in commercials, and basically in all facets of how our society moves, then you…well, to put it nicely, you’re wrong, lol.
The fact that black males, generally speaking, or most males for that matter, have a problem with homosexuality doesn’t change that. Yes, the pushback against gay and trans normalization may come in some part from all walks, but it isn’t Jay Z and Beyonce out there shooting cases of Budweiser in protest.
Either way, my comment was about ‘agenda’ and who pushes back on it. Minorities are included in the agenda narrative. Black people have their own social movement that is every bit as divisive as the trans movement. Just because we’ve moved past that recently doesn’t mean it isn’t still just as big an issue for the ‘agenda’ group- which is by and large straight white males, lol.
I wasn’t talking about the old guard but more modern times. People keep acting like it’s 50+ years ago.
It’s funny, but that is exactly the way I see it. It isn’t 50 years ago, lol.
Most of my 50’s+ white male friends don’t really give a shit. We live in a multicultural nation and most who still have strong connections to the homeland are the most rigid about alternative lifestyles. That’s what I see.
🦍🌿😮💨
👍
Good grief, I said I didn’t want to debate this stuff again, but Tim pulled me in. I just don’t want this place to be an echo chamber when it comes to all this stuff, and I seem to be the only one who will present a different perspective.
I’m home now and want to get high, but once that happens, my conversational capabilities drop off a cliff, lol.
I’m a sloth when it comes to BBQ… fire up my gas grill and eat inside an hour 😊. If anyone wants a sweet sticky sauce for ribs, ham or chicken …50/50 split Grape jelly and ketchup, heat 45-60 secs and stir together, lather on meat for last 10 minutes cooking to carmelize … all our kids favourite

This is why Busch did the add campaign. Their biggest demographic market is older white men. It is a shrinking demographic with no room for expansion of the market share. Busch wanted to expand the market share with the younger market which is more inclusive and diverse. So Busch chose a figure that represents that target audience to be on the can
Exactly, a targeted marketing campaign aimed at a changing society, not an agenda to change our society.
From a marketing and advertising standpoint I get that. I guess I just wonder why it’s such a movement. Who spends their time thinking about who’s fucking who etc. If we truly believe in individual freedom we shouldn’t need campaigns.
Who spends their time thinking about who’s fucking who etc.

Advertising firms
True and that’s why I always felt guilty. You promote stuff that isn’t realistic at times. Then you deal with changing times even if you’re not sure what it’s all about.
A marketing strategy that has failed miserably in the order of billions in a matter of days.
They anticipate an initial backlash which is typical in these type of strategies. It is usually short lived and if the strategy is correct it won’t matter
For Bud Light in particular, reaching a new audience is crucial, Alissa Heinerscheid, vice president of marketing at Bud Light, said in a recent Make Yourself at Home podcast interview.
“If we do not attract young drinkers to come and drink this brand, there will be no future for Bud Light,” she said in a interview posted to YouTube in March, before the current wave of anti-trans backlash. Bud Light had “been in decline for a really long time,” she said.
Yeah, she is an indoctrinated nut job from Harvard. Not my words but from a highly respected journalist who is not necessarily right or left.
Lol…you people crack me up….
You can pander to the few that yank the chain…or not…lmao
In a capitalistic society I doubt pink wins over pints…lol…wtf do I know?
My advice to Budweiser: make better beer

Bottom line, lol
I defy anyone on this blog who thinks a 13 yo has the emotional, mental, psychological, or physical development to “choose” their sexuality. Omfg…and don’t even believe in god.
I am 59 and still not physically, mentally or emotionally mature enough to do so
The age I used was meant to infer puberty….
I figured
Just going to prepare myself for the next major sporting event that Bud Light sponsors where they air commercials depict a drag show with he/she’s (no disrespect) drinking Bud Light dancing for 9 year old children.
Lol…so you’re their marketing agent
Forgive me, I am a white, past middle age, crusty fart.
LOL Krishna
My wife and I were just discussing this aspect of the Bud Light gal (not even sure what her name is, that’s how much I care). I’ve seen mentioned that her tick toks target young children, as in prepubescent.
I don’t know if that is truth or fear mongering, but in regards to that issue, that is where I agree with the pushback on the trans community. My own line, if you will. But being on a beer can doesn’t target prepubescent children.
This stuff doesn’t need to target young kids. That fight is currently happening across America. I have no problem with drag shows, but they are for adults, not younger children.
