Dolphins fans should be elated after 13 player Draft Haul

You can just feel the excitement, you can envision the future of this team. There is hope, hope because the guys running the show have a plan, a direction, and their first undertaking was remaking the roster. They started with 11 picks and finished with 13, and also did a great job signing UDFA’s as well. My confidence is high that we’re building things the right way. After being forced to strip down the roster due to the salary cap mess former GM Chris Grier left them with, they managed to infuse a bunch of physical, smart, good character players to become the starting foundation of their players. Now of course all the players inherited from Chris Grier’s team are their players too, but these players they drafted will always be special, until of course they come up due for new contracts.

We already have been told what the O-line remake will be at least to start training camp. From left to right it will be Paul, Proctor, Brewer, Savaiinaea and Jackson. I’d bet if you ask Patrick Paul if he’s happy to have Kadyn Proctor next to him he’s have a big ole smile on his face. Last season Jonah Savaiinaea really struggled at LG. Now I understand everyone on the line has their own job to do but when the guy next to you is a clear liability, you can’t help but try and help out and want to do a little more to make things easier for that player. Proctor is going to be a physical player that will move people off the ball, and I think that will rub off on big Patrick Paul, who suddenly won’t be as big anymore with Proctor next to him. TE Will Kacmarek will also add to the physicality of the line. He wasn’t over drafted, they wanted the best blocking TE available and took him. He has two hands, he will use them to block and I can guarantee you he will be catching passes too.

The defense will be really interesting to watch because physicality is important, but position flexibility is too. We have some players that will filling multiple roles, like LB Kyle Louis who can be a SS and nickel linebacker as well. LB Trey Moore is an undersized guy to be on the D-line, but he will be used in pass rushing situations. Michael Taaffe will be a core special teams player but he also might end up on the field as our Free Safety next to Kyle Louis. Taaffe is an very intelligent player, leader and high character that began as a walk on. Easy guy to root for, and really, I think all our picks were. Besides our draft picks this year, we have to see if we have some talent on the D-line from last year’s draft. Seems as if we’re going to be playing a hybrid 4-3, 3-4 look and besides veteran Zach Sieler, who out of the guys drafted last year such as Kenneth Grant, Jordan Phillips and Zeek Biggers show out and make themselves seen? Will Chop Robinson make some progress, after regressing in year 2? Will UDFA Rene Konga make the 53? Will OLB/DE Josh Uche earn a job as DE? Lots of questions and way too early for answers. We’ll see how training camp goes and once they get the pads on we will probably see things emerge.

As for the offense, I’m excited to see the O-line obviously, which has been such a disappointing unit save for Brewer and Paul. I’m not expecting much this season WR Chris Bell but maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised and he’s further along that expected and will be a big contributor. I am looking forward to seeing WR Caleb Douglas and get a look at what he bring s to our offense. We brought in a bigger receiver last season in Nick Westbook-Ikhine who is now gone, and it’s clear we need some size to go along with a group of diminutive WRs like Malik Washington and Tutu Atwell, 5’8 and 5’9 respectively. Jalen Tolbert is 6’1 195, so a little more length, but both Chris Bell and Caleb Douglas are 6’3 and have big wingspans to get those contested catches. We know we have one of the most explosive RB’s in the NFL in RB De’Von Achane, and with the added beef on the line in Proctor and TE Kacmarek, you’d expect Achane to be a little giddy right now. We added another physical runner in UDFA RB Le’Veon Moss from Texas A&M to compete with RB Jaylen Wright and RB Ollie Gordon. Of course the bigger part of the equation is how does new QB Malik Willis do here in Miami? After purging Hill and Waddle, Sully made sure to give Willis a few presents and we’ll see how all that works out. You can imagine the transformation from marshmallow soft on offense to big and tough now. Like Hafley says, speed slows down, big doesn’t get smaller.

    Steve,

if a team wins, it doesn’t affect their strength of schedule So their strength of schedule does not go down; the other teams that they are going to play and have played have their strength of schedules go up

week 3 you win, before week 4, your strength of schedule goes down, based on the team you just beat now has another loss, is you had lost week 3 the SOS goes up

Say we end up with the 1st overall pick in 2027. The Jets finish with picks 12, 16(Colts) and 28(Cowboys).

Would you stay put at #1 for Manning, Moore or Smith or would you trade 1 and 150 (3031 points) for the Jets picks 12, 16, 28 and 76 (3070 points)?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Depends on what Malik Willis looks like. If he’s playing really well, I’d trade out

you can’t trade with the jets and give them a possible franchise QB

I haven’t seen it from Arch yet, so unless he’s much better this year I wouldn’t draft him #1, I’d trade out

generally don’t like unathletic guys, playing athletic position, making the 53, but his instincts are good, which minimize his unathletic ability

surely there’s times when it will hurt him

He may have a shot, since we don’t have much at S

think we should sign some more UDFAs, then have Achane, Malik, last years draft, and all this years rookies/UDFAs make the 53😜

    Reply*********

    no

first – no matter what the chart says, you have to get more than that to give up the 1. For the 1 pick people will be in serious competition.

even more – to go for 1 to 12 you have to get multiple 1st rounders and of that means picks in 2027 and 2028 – then you do that. Ordinarily I like a pick like a 76 but for a overall – it’s a non factor

also it’s almost inevitable that some one at 3 or 5 or a much earlier pick will trade up to 1 and even if they don’t have multiple 1st rounders, you take futurist first rounders over late round picks

12 is not a very good spot to move into

if you move back to 3 or 5 or an earlier pick, you can probably trade down again and get even more than what a team gave up to go from 12 to 1

finally – you just don’t give the 1 overall and a lot tail franchise QB to a division rival

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

agree with your last sentence, no way do you give the jets a shot at Arch

Douglas fit the mold of what we were looking for, don’t think Malachi Fields really did

once he gets on the field and what situation it is we’ll be able to prove this

they wanted a big WR, that can also block

Yeah, I didn’t read far enough into that article 33 to catch that. Not worried about Traore though. He’s not good enough to where someone will see the need to poach him and put him on their 53.

He could decide to sign on another teams practice squad and not ours.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I think he’ll make the 53, his athletic ability can’t be taught

they knew what they were getting, when they drafted him, he’s just a little raw

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

You could be right. Conyers is still a question mark. I don’t see a reason why he couldn’t beat out Sims and Cole Turner. If he can get much better at blocking he will beat out Sims and Turner.

  18. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

LOL at Tim! I sure felt fucked in the head yesterday. I haven’t done tequila shots in a very long time. That was probably the last time, maybe.

BBM always looking down the road, can’t help it. JES and Hafley’s roster is just starting to be built. Some good pieces already in place and added some more good pieces this draft but still have multiple position groups that have to get better. We still have way too many players on 1yr contracts. That’s where 2027 comes in.

I won’t feel different about this team whether they lose 8 games or 12. Winning is always the ultimate goal. But, you cant let it draw your focus away from the process. Stay focused on the process, and you will reach your potential.

If you don’t reach the ultimate goal in winning a championship, then you need to focus, again, on the process you took and why it didn’t work. That’s a future issue. This team is just beginning a new process. Whether they win 4 or 8 doesn’t define the process for good or bad, at this point.

Crazy when ya think about it: Darren Waller’s 6 receiving TDs last season (tied with Waddle’s 6 TDs) led the team… and Waller only started in 3 games compared to Waddle’s 16 starts… and they are both gone now.

Don’t know if I’m rooting for us to surprise the NFL this season with many wins, or if I’m rooting for us to to suck to get better draft picks in the ’27 Draft.

Either way we’re WINNING(!), regardless of the outcome.

I think(?) I’m rooting for us to suck, being there remains much more construction to be done to our roster… and being we aren’t going far in ’26, even if we surprise and make the playoffs (<- highly, highly doubt that happens).

It’s interesting to me that we did NOT trade for any future ’27 picks in what is expected to be a very good Draft class.

From Brad Gagnon, excitement meter for each team. On a 1-10 scale with 10 being the highest excitement.

Buffalo Bills: 7 — You’ve got the most valuable quarterback of the 2020s and you’ve added D.J. Moore to his receiving corps. A change of the guard at head coach also makes things a little more interesting for a team that is always in the picture but continually falls short of the Super Bowl.

Miami Dolphins: 7 — The expectations are actually quite low, but the presence of a new general manager (Jon-Eric Sullivan), head coach (Jeff Hafley) and quarterback (Malik Willis) certainly stirs things up for a rebuilding Miami squad.

New England Patriots: 9 — A surprise Super Bowl run inevitably sparks excitement, and the potential addition of star receiver A.J. Brown only builds on that for the young Patriots.

New York Jets: 3 — Geno Smith doesn’t move the needle, even if he’s got a decent supporting cast and the Jets have added a pair of first-round picks to the pass-catching corps. This is a suck-it-up year for Gang Green.

Still learning the potential draft class for next year but I think T.J. Moore could be a draft steal where you got him if he declares. He’s a good route runner and has a quick burst to run after the catch for a guy 6’3 200.
