The 0-2 Dolphins come home to Hard Rock Stadium to take on the 2-0 Kansas City Chiefs. You would have to go all the way back to 2011 to find the last time the Miami Dolphins have defeated the Kansas City Chiefs. That was the Great Matt Moore was our QB, slinging TD’s thrice to defeat the Chiefs 31-3. Since then, 0 for 5, including 3 losses with the Great Tua Tagovailoa at the helm, our great savior. This one shouldn’t be much different, but the young Dolphins do get a taste of home cooking, but unless they play better than the last 2 weeks, there’s potential for the home crowd to be downright rude. I’m really hoping that doesn’t happen, this team could use a good game, win or lose.

Last week, I was really taken aback by our defense, or lack of it more appropriately. No kidding, I feel like receivers were open all over the field, and I’m not talking about 1, I mean two or three on a bunch of plays. We held an advantage with time of possession in the first half of the game last week’s game, (19.17 – 10.43), but the Chiefs scored 2 TD’s, while the Dolphins managed only 2 FG’s, as Riley Patterson was only 2-3 on first half FG’s, missing a 47 yard FG. The offense was the story of the 1st half, while the defense looked like a bunch of matadors allowing receivers and ball carriers clear paths to accomplish whatever they wished. Honestly, guys looked out of position, out of sorts and unsure what their responsibilities were on defense all day last week on defense.

In the 2nd half, it was the offense’s turn to shut down, and the Niners had no resistance in the 3rd quarter scoring 3 TD’s to make it an easy 35-13 victory. The SF 49ers are a very good team, a veteran team, I bleive during the broadcast they mentioned they are the oldest NFL team. In contrast, the Dolphins sport the youngest roster, and in Week 2, on the road in California, although the Dolphins stayed on the West Coast the entire week after losing the Season opener to the Las Vegas Raiders. The 49ers, who had easily dismantled a team who many prognosticators before the season were calling a Super Bowl favorite, the LA Rams, 27-7. You shouldn’t have expected an easy game for our inexperienced young team who would have ben playing just their 2nd game together, while the Niners are a grizzled veteran team that have been together for quite some time.

On Dolphins “Twitter”, or “X”, there is already much unrest and discord. Some fans want heads to roll and it’s beyond silly. This was a tear it down to the studs effort, purge the roster of as many big salaried players as possible to clear out the negative cap space that former GM Chris Grier was kind enough to leave us with. We traded whoever we could to free up more future cap space and get us draft capital to be able to draft 13 players that both GM Jon Eric Sullivan and HC Jeff Hafley liked to change the culture of the team. In doing this, it would be absurd to expect this young team who was playing just their 2nd game together, to compete with the 49ers. There was no joy for Dougie Fresh last week, although Dar was dancing. Sully and Haf decided it was more important to evaluate the bottom half of the roster, thus not playing the guys they knew were making the team. Therefore, the greater majority of the guys who started didn’t get to play together, so it’s logical that it will take a few weeks before this team can even be on the same page. It’s about improving, and my hope is that each week, we see progress to that end.

We’re hosting the Kansas City Chiefs this week, and even though Patrick Mahomes injured both his ACL and LCL on December 14th 2025, there he is in the starting lineup right at the beginning of the season to lead the Chiefs to a 2-0 record. The Chiefs are averaging 32 PPG, but have surrendered 20 PPG, although they barely survived an OT win in Week 2 against the Colts, 33-30. Kenneth Walker is RB now for the Chiefs, and he gets the lion’s share of the carries. Last week he carried 24 times for 117 yards, and Patrick Mahomes threw the ball all over the place for 382 yards and 3 TD, 0 INT’s. Good ole Travis Kelce was his favorite target, 11 times for 9 catches, 101 yards and 1 TD. Kenneth Walker was his 2nd favorite target, 10 times for 6 receptions, 60 yards. The Chiefs also have WR’s Rashee Rice and Xavien Worthy who had a quiet day last Sunday in comparison. The Chiefs defense has only 3 sacks after 2 games, so hopefully we can wear that defense down with RB De’Von Achane in the Florida heat, and keep the “heat” off of QB Malik Willis, who was running for his life last week against the Niners. If not for Malik Willis’ athleticism, he could have been sacked 5-10 times last week.

Not expecting miracles here, it’s a tall order to take down the Kansas City Chiefs with QB Patrick Mahomes at the helm. Mahomes record as QB is a phenomenal 97-31, which translates to an otherworldly winning percentage of .757. Even if the Dolphins play a great game, Mahomes doesn’t lose close games, so the Dolphins truly have their work cut out for them. As I have mentioned, I want to see improvement from last week. I don’t want to see Chiefs receivers running around wide open, especially TE Travis Kelce who you know Mahomes is looking at all the damn time. Not that I want 3 guys on him, but bump him, and have someone on him like white on rice! DE Chop Robinson is supposed to be back this week for the Dolphins. He logged a Full Practice, along with injured WR Chris Bell, who had a knee issue, although it wasn’t reported as to whether it was his surgically repaired knee, or his other knee. WR Caleb Douglas is OUT, and WR Ryan Miller who caught the long TD last week is questionable. If Bell can go, and Douglas and Miller can’t, it could be Bell, Washington, Coleman and WR Jalen Tolbert would probably see his first action of the season. I hope we have a much more competitive game and see some bright spots.
