2026 Season – Week 5 – Bengals @ Dolphins

The Dolphins host the Bengals for our annual FMU Fest!! We’ll have a smaller “Mob” this year but we’re still here and cheering for our first win of the season. I know there will be a large contingency of Bengals fans but I have a good feeling about this week. We have been improving and I feel like were getting closer to putting it together well enough to get a “W”.

We do get DT Kenneth Grant back this week although I’m sure he’ll be on a snap count as this will be his first game action of 2026 including preseason. WR Caleb Douglas is still OUT but hopefully getting closer to action. With Achane OUT for the season, RB’s Ollie Gordon and Jaylen Wright will have to pick up the slack. I believe WR Malik Washington will continue to get more targets without Achane.

Let’s hope our guys can pull one out for the home crowd, and of course, the FMU Festers!

GO DOLPHINS!!!

    Willis is horrible

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      He’s snake bitten

He throws a bomb and Washington stops running, should’ve been a TD

Last series he had Bell downfield, but someone was holding his arm, should’ve been PI

Sure he’s missing plays, seems like someone is coaching him to do something else

I want to like Willis, but he makes it hard.

  19. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

For the first time I feel like sending Malik back to pass isn’t a good thing, our passing game is so dysfunctional

He needs to take what is given to him, and not look for the great play, every drop back shouldn’t be about making a great play

  20. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    Brewer is next

  21. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The passes Burrow threw after 1st and goal are the throws Malik isn’t attempting. He’s not taking the easy free yards

Where’s the short passes, something to build confidence

      • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

He is bypassing the short throws to throw long. Announcers called it. He won’t hit the check down.

They need to make a QB change after the bye.

  61. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The bye comes at the right time because there will be a lot of film work and coaching. A great time to review a good body of work.

  62. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    Welp, it was interesting!

  65. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Better QB play and the game may have been different. Willis sucks.

  66. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

217 rushing yards by us. That’s pretty good.

137 passing yards by us. That’s pretty bad.

  67. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Penalties (7) and turnovers (Malik Willis: 2 INTs, 1 lost fumble) killed us this day.

  68. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s not really how many years has Willis been in the league but how many starts and the answer is 11. With 3 different teams. This is the first time he’s been handed the keys and it’s with the youngest team in the league. I see us staying the course and investing in their best players. The bye week is perfect timing. You haven’t won a game but we’re not the only one at the moment either. 😂

    • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

He has been on the sidelines learning. No excuses. Take what the D gives you. He sucks.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

So, it is your opinion that the FIVE YEARS he has spent in the NFL has been worthless to his development? Only the STARTS count?

That is straight up bullshit Tim.

  69. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Let’s go Chargers.

  70. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Observation: it’s rather obvious at this point in time that Bobby Slowick is NOT coaching Malik Willis to throw it to a spot on the field, ala Tua. Instead, Slowick is rolling with Willis’ style of play: see open receiver, let ‘er rip.

EVERYBODY has noticed that Willis is holding onto the ball far too long… why is that, exactly?

    1. Brand new receivers to build chemistry with?
    2. Shiny rookie WRs are either hurt or coming off injury (Bell & Douglas)?
    3. Too busy scanning for pass-rushers, being he distrusts the O-Line?
    4. Slowick and Willis aren’t yet on the same page?
    5. His first read is always blanketed by a defender because they aren’t breaking open?
    6. It’s his first starting gig in the NFL?
    7. Perhaps some of all of the above?

There MUST be a reason as to why Willis’ numbers are awful in the passing game so far this season, and I’m certain it’s correctable. I’m not absolving Willis of any blame, for he’s got a LOT to fix, starting with his footwork. IMO, he’s still a PROJECT… but with MASSIVE upside.

Yes, our BYE week comes at a good time for us to reassess, fix, highlight the highs and lows, and to reinforce football 101 (too many foolish penalties, for one).

It’s WAY too early to shelve Malik Willis. We MUST ascertain IF he’s our QB of the future. The sooner we figure that much out, it will determine whether we should address QB early in the ’27 Draft.

If Willis isn’t our QB of the future, it’s likely going to take the full season to render that decision… due to the contract we $igned him to. Now is not the time to bench him. Now is the time to see if he has what it takes to get out of the hole. And for whatever it’s worth — in spite of his miserable day today — he brought us back to make it a one score game.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Oh yeah, one more thing. Sully and Haf aren’t going to bench ‘their guy’, who they personally vetted and paid all this $$$. NOBODY would do that to ‘their guy’ in year 1. That would concede futility in their decision making.

  71. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’ll say this our pass pro is pretty good, Willis had plenty of time to make decisions. I’m not sure if it’s him or nobody open. Probably both as they learn each other. We also have moments where we blow up defenses. I like where we’re headed.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

All I can say is it’s FRUSTRATING! But I also feel this is correctable with a little time and patience.

    • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Willis is NOT an NFL staring QB. No excuses. He sucks.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Can’t lie: you may prove to be correct, Bookman. By the same token, you may prove to be incorrect.

It’s too early for me to call it, one way or the other. I’m hoping for the best, preparing for the worst .

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

We BOTH know why we’re rooting for the Chargers right now! 😉

  72. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    BOOKMAN!!!

    TD, VIDAL!!!!!!!!!! WHAT A RUN!!!!!!!

  73. rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

Those Cincy uniforms sure looked sharp out there, and it was nice to see a very good offensive team.

As for the Dolphins, not much to say, other than I’m leaning towards either Mensah or Carr at this point…

  74. New Age's avatar New Age says:

It would be the height of GM negligence to not get a QB in the first next year and I see us getting one. Green Bay guys like to sit their future QB a couple years, and I see Malik teaching whoever the standard of professional conduct. Malik is a good dude but there’s a talent discrepancy between him and the top 3-4 guys coming out. Having Mensah sitting there while you pick even a guy like Smith would be a terrible look and add all kinds of pressure to Malik.

  75. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Justin Herbert, WTF were you thinking right there?

  76. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Chargers: 0-5.

  77. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Capri McD is probably the very worst thing that could have happened to Justin Herbert’s career.

  78. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I suppose there might be improvement later in the season, but I think there absolutely has to be in order to go forward next season with Malik Willis as our starting QB. His field awareness and accuracy are severely lacking. Besides that, why on earth did he slide on that long run he had? Can someone tell me because I haven’t seen a replay, at the game it seemed totally unnecessary

  79. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Mike E,

If we draft a top prospect, do you really want them learning from behind this OL and with these WRs? I’m all good with Malik learning on the fly the next two years.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

You didn’t ask me, but YES this line NEXT season will have more experience together (they are already getting better before our eyes each week) and our two rookie WR will be in their 2nd years so YES again.

I am NOT ok with running with Malik the next two years.

We ABSOLUTELY MUST draft his replacement next April.

  80. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Willis is not a starting NFL QB. It feels like dejavu all over again.

    • boulderfinfan's avatar boulderfinfan says:

I agree. Even if we draft a QB, unless he kills it in next TC I feel like Willis is gonna be our guy. We should have just grabbed someone like Kirk cousin or something.

  81. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

And there’s our Tua …. Sorry falcons

  82. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

0-5. at least we aren’t getting blown out in every game. As was a concern shared by myself and many others when we signed him to a fairly substantial contract, Willis is not the guy. You can have a big arm, be able to make every throw, run to get some yards (and inexplicably slide ), but if you aren’t consistently accurate, you’re not going to start in this league. And he is not consistently accurate.

  83. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    Bench Willis??

    F NO!

Ride his ass to the #1 pick!

  84. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    Bench Willis?

    F NO!

Ride his janky ass to the #1 draft pick!

  85. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I’m going to go get the paper…

  86. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Watching Willis live was an eye opener, for me. I could see the field great, but Willis was sorely lacking in same, awareness was severely questionable, decision-making was dubious.

He has a ways to go, imo. He needs to be coached up.

THEN, no matter what we still need to draft an QB. It’s the GB way, nota sellout to anyone.

  87. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Besides accuracy, Willis doesn’t throw to his check downs. He’s always looking for the big one. Which is where his inaccuracy shows up.

I tend to agree with Rock – Ride him to the number one pick. Next year he can be the placeholder or the backup.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Lol….yeah accuracy is an issue, too. Lots of issues.

We absolutely should keep him..especially through next year. Why not?

I don’t see an NFL ready QB in this draft, but we need to work on getting one ready next year.

  88. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Who’s Willis’ QB coach? He’s got a lot of work to do….does he know that? Lol

  89. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Bye is a good time to reset, teach more, learn more

  90. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Rovk,

I agree about riding him to #1 but why in the world would we possibly screw up our #1 pick by bringing him out early when he can learn behind Willis? The vast majority of first round QBs who start the first year are busts. Most of the decently successful ones take a few years to adjust. Green Bay has two QBs who sat that ended up awesome and the Chiefs have another. That sounds better than throwing the dude out to the wolves for no good reason.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Agree. The NFL used to develop QBs…probably a lot of failure in the respect due to unearthly expectations.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I think we disagree on terminology only. You said “the next two years” which I took as in addition to THIS year.

I agree, he is getting paid $20+ Million next year so…

He should AT LEAST compete with the rookie for the starting job (and I would expect him to win that battle early on, just do to familiarity with the system and his SIX years of experience at that time.)

I would expect Willis to start the season as the #1 and then see how things progress.

But by NO MEANS should we not pick a QB high in this years draft.
