Don’t get so too close to the Shelton Joe Philbin!!! Purportedly, the Dolphins have shown real interest in Washington Defensive Tackle Danny Shelton. So much so Senior Bowl security had to ask Coach Philbin to step back. Well, truth is the Dolphins are not the only team intrigued with Shelton.
Why the fascination with the 340 pound behemoth that can move mountains with a powerful bull rush? Well because he is a 340 pound behemoth who can move mountains with a powerful bull rush! (sigh) You Earthlings are so slow…
Given his siz,e its no surprise that people are comparing Shelton to Vince Wilfork and Haloti Ngata. Get excited – this is the guy that can be the centerpiece for some one’s defense for a decade. An elite run stuffer! A guy who you just can’t move. Do you hear that? That is the sound of Danny Shelton eating an offensive line…..offensive line so tasty.
But is he more than just an immovable force? In his Senior Year at Washington Shelton had 9 sacks. Word has it – his moves are pretty much limited to a bull rush. He just overpowers the interior offensive line. Get out of my way!!! I’m Danny Shelton and I am going to crush Tom Brady’s spine! Um…I just imagine that is what he would say…dare to dream…
Shelton shows impressive quickness and agility for a guy his size. In fact Shelton is a member of the Huskies track team. No, don’t worry, he is not a pole vaulter. He competes in the discuss throw and shot put, another tribute to his incredible strength.
There are no guarantees that Shelton is a great pass rusher at the NFL level. But run stuffer? Most scouts seem to think if you draft Shelton, you can get a decade of run stuffing from this reliable space eater. If I was going to compare Danny Shelton to an Alien Weapon of Destruction I would compare him to a The Great Black Hole of Xvorkkia Nebulas 4. Go ahead try to go into the black hole – no one will ever see you again!

Four pars, three bogeys, a double bogey, and a triple bogey. for an 8-over 44 over nine holes…..might sound good to you on a Sunday (or maybe not), but that was Tiger Woods in the second round of the Phoenix Open today.
According to Golf Channel lead analyst Brandel Chamblee, “some of the most friendly turf conditions that the players will face all year long” and “Woods was as bad, not as I’ve ever seen him, not as bad as I’ve ever seen another tour pro, the worst I’ve ever seen a tour pro around the greens.”
Sounds like The Golden Bear will remain just that.

in college I had a roommate that had his front tooth knocked out by his girlfriend and I didn’t hear the fight or anything. We used to party hard back in the day.
Did she have a piercing? Those things can smart if you accidentally bite down too hard on them?
By his girlfriend? I’m hoping she hit him with something hard at least. Three of my four front teeth have been killed (even if some of them were just root canals after contact)……but at least I have a war story for each one. 🙂
with her fist. Amazing I didn’t hear anything and I was 25 feet away.
Wow…..That’s one tough girl. Guessing her Dad taught her how to throw a punch. BTW — should have mentioned that my teeth got damaged in sports things, but I remember how hard the contact was. Gets me back to one tough girl.

That was my opinion, not a reporters, but again, it’s not all the time, and I thin the kid has a lot of potential, but I’m a lil uneasy to move too early on him as mentioned below.

Lol ooops, i know you do better research than that so i retract that, but he looks good to me. I havent seen ton of flaws, i think i like Malcom Brown better though, ever so slightly better.
Now we’re talking, Brown is more my cup of tea from what I’ve seen of him.

How many offensive guards come out of college and become pro bowl left tackles?? #illwaitforit #thinkpeopleforget #godgifted
Why is he saying that now? Seems strange
Beats me…guess he’s patting himself on the back…LOL
Wallace is rubbing off on the rest of the team…lol
He’s been throwing that in KC fans faces who were calling him a bum when he became a FA last year.

Did he get sucked in, instead of sucking IT in?
Damn he built up a lot of suction tryig to get the whole jar in there.

Among those on witness list: Patriots coach Bill Belichick, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Bills LB Brandon Spikes and Dolphins C Mike Pouncey
————————
Man I hope they don’t feel the need for Pouncey, but Kraft or Beli?…….that would be gold.
If they’re gonna bother him, do it now after the season is over.
We’ll see…..trial will last weeks, but if they call Pouncey won’t be much longer than that.

I can’t see it at work, but they crack me up. Very funny
Not bad for a not trade draft.
Round 1 Pick 14: DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville (A)
Round 2 Pick 15: Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami (Fla.) (B)
Round 3 Pick 14: Justin Hardy, WR, East Carolina (A-)
Round 4 Pick 15: Grady Jarrett, DT, Clemson (A)
Round 5 Pick 14: David Johnson, RB, Northern Iowa (A-)
Round 6 Pick 15: Cam Thomas, CB, Western Kentucky (A-)
Round 7 Pick 15: Ronald Martin, SS, LSU (F)
D — looks good, but where is the G? If we don’t make that a FA priority…….you get the idea.
Yeah. But truthfully if they dont get an OG in FA i might lose my shit lol. I cant see any way we get better not getting an OG in FA probably will at least a project guy in the draft. Thats what i keep running into with the no trade back scenarios, i just cant get all the guys i feel we need.
Don’t really care how it comes, but I want one G spot locked. And I’m not talking third round or stop-gap FA.
I can roll with this draft!
I love the big poppa one
I’ve seen it 1000 times
D, Like this draft. Was Tomlinson there at #3? If so, would have preferred him over Hardy there since you got Parker.
Round 1 Pick 14: Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State (B)
Round 2 Pick 15: Clive Walford, TE, Miami (Fla.) (B-)
Round 3 Pick 14: Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, Texas A&M (B-)
Round 4 Pick 15: Breshad Perriman, WR, UCF (A)
Round 5 Pick 14: Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson (C-)
Round 6 Pick 15: Adrian Amos, FS, Penn State (C+)
Round 7 Pick 15: Jake Ryan, OLB, Michigan (A)
That’s fucking horrible 😋😋😋😋😋
Piggy,
I don’t really think Shelton is all THAT good. I don’t see him doing much to rush the passer on 3rd downs, so I see him as a 2 down player. I question some of the competition he went against, and I just don’t see a guy who I think will dominate in the NFL. I think he’ll be just another guy when he starts going up against NFL players each week. He’s not going to be bullrushing NFL guards like he does college guys….and that’s all he ever does. I just don’t think he has #14 value. That’s just me. Folks do this all the time…..see a guy do something in college and think he’s just gonna do it in the pros. It rarely works that way….especially with DL. He’s not a Wilfork, Ngata sort of talent.
Im right with ya Randy. He may get there with some strength and conditioning, e seems to have the extra gear you wanna see in players so i like that but he isnt coming in right off and pushing dudes around.

Round 7 Pick 15: Imoan Claiborne, CB, Northwestern State (B-)
————————————————————————————–
How dare they give me a D for Marpet…..really!
By picks 1,2,and 3 i hope we have a new WR, ILB and S. Other positions like RB, OG, DT, CB, OT, etc can get in where they fit in through the rest of the draft. We have pretty strong needs to hit home runs with those first three picks in those positions i listed.
I see the trend here that it’s all about the WR corp, but it’s not. Our OL has given up 97 sacks and a billion pressures in 2 years. It’s a veritable miracle that Tannehill hasn’t been severely injured. The fanbase in general (not necessarily everyone on this blog) needs to stop focusing on WR play because to be honest, the fanbase in general has no idea how to analyze WR play.
It’s once again NOT popular, but I see a real need to focus on the trenches this offseason. Our DL needs a rebuild into something that doesn’t disappear late in the season, and our OL needs at least 1 more rock solid player before we have the luxury of trying to improve on the likes of Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Landry, et. al.
If Wallace gets jettisoned in the offseason because of his attitude, then we’ll need to get a speedster to replace him, but I honestly don’t think he did anything Landry couldn’t have done this season if Landry were the #1 target rather then Wallace. Being a 9-route specialist doesn’t mean shit if you’re injured every offseason and can’t practice 9 routes with your QB.
All IMHO.
Agree on your Wallace take. The only WR I bring back is Hartline restructured. Gibson can fuck off with Wallace like they do in WR meeting😆
Not gonna argue with Randy, but one the competition comment is bullshit anti-West coast football bias. The Pac-12 was arguably (and the argument would be easy to make) the best football conference in the country this season, and it’s been one of the best in the country for a good 5+ years.
BULLSHIT-ANTI WEST COAST!
LMAO
I am not a SEC Homer!
I actually watch a lot of MWC!
So don’t feel bad Jahn! You get way more respect than we do!!!!!!!!!!!
MWC is another underrated conference. I gotta say, I don’t know why Randy said that (bias was my assumption) but I just think it’s a totally inaccurate thing to say about the Pac-12.
Later Fellas
Gotta go to the boy’s Soccer match!
Jahn,
The anecdotal evidence is there to support your position, too. There are no all star receivers on either team (in the Super Bowl). Smart qb-ing, solid line play on both sides of the ball.
JAHN: Strongly agree with your comments RE: the Pac-12 being the best football conference this past season. –I’d also admit that the Big-10 finally showed up in the bowl games and could also claim to be the best, or damn close to it. –However, for the coming year, I believe the SEC will bounce back and challenge the Pac-12 and the Big 10 for supremacy in college football. –It will be a long time before we EVER see ANY CONFERENCE WIN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP FOR 7 CONSECUTIVE SEASONS!
Hey D,
This draft is for you!
Round 1 Pick 14: Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma (B)
Round 2 Pick 15: Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami (Fla.) (B)
Round 3 Pick 14: Clive Walford, TE, Miami (Fla.) (A)
Round 4 Pick 15: Chris Hackett, FS, TCU (B+)
Round 5 Pick 14: Lorenzo Doss, CB, Tulane (A)
Round 6 Pick 15: Sean Hickey, OT, Syracuse (B-)
Round 7 Pick 15: Jake Ryan, OLB, Michigan (A)
This would be a great draft that helps us on both sides of the ball! The first 3, maybe even 4 picks could all be starters by mid-season….then the rest make for nice depth & ST contributors.
Randy
As I mentioned in the post
I agree that he relies On a bull rush a little too often
I don’t know that he is going to be able to do that in the pros when the opposition is considerably higher
But I think the bull rush may have been so effective for him bc he was just that much stronger than everyone else
IMO thee is no question that he is top 15 talent
In fact I don’t expect him to be available at 14
i say you all are missing the point and full of it. the best conference in football top to bottom in college is the SEC. it has been that way the last decade or so. but know what who gives a shit. that has nothing to do with drafting players.
where did jerry rice go to school, marino, moss the names go on and on, and how many undrafted become great. the list go on and on. yeah ok the majority come from football schools but the conference has little IMHO to do with it. it is the player that matters. for that matter how many have come out of the sec and been a bust. all conferences are full of bust. and i am just talking cheerleader bust. it is all about the individual and the player.
I do think the PAC 12 is underrated
I also this the ace has been overrated lately
I tend to think the sec was the best but their days of being the best might be over
Seems a little more even across the board now at least last year anyway
As a whole I thought Oregon was the beat team in football lasts year but ohio state got hot at the end of the season
This whole best conference debate really depends on what is being used as criteria- most players playing pro ball or best combined record against other conference(s) or something else I’m not considering.
Exactly, and quite honestly well beyond the scope of my post. Mine was just a defense of the idea that a Pac-12 player deserves to have his resume knocked because of “competition” he went against.
My comment was not about “who is the best conference in the country” yet the comments that responded to it mostly seemed to miss that point. Though I did appreciate them. In rereading my post was a bit harsh and judgmental of the reasons Randy said that about the “competition” Shelton faced. I have lived on the WC my whole life, and if you have never lived here you may not realize it, but there is very much a phenomenon of the US population east of the Mississippi missing the mark on what’s happening in sports out here.
I’m not accusing Randy of East Coast (or anti- West Coast) bias, I just automatically assume that erroneous comments about the competition level of the Pac-12 are a product of such bias.
Haven’t talked to Randy in awhile and feel a bit bad for coming on so strongly, but suffice to say, the Pac-12 over the last few years is virtually undeniably ONE OF the best conferences in the country. This isn’t a debate about the SINGLE best conference of the country, just an opinion on the quality of the football that’s being played on the WC. Hell, even our HS football programs are amongst the best in the country (It’s a veritable toss between FL and CA)
http://www.maxpreps.com/news/rtk0-D08zUqiamc4NnPQ_w/high-schools-that-have-produced-the-most-nfl-draft-picks.htm
Correction: veritable “toss up”
Funny, I really stopped at #5 on that list, but if you scroll all the way down, FL is the best HS football state in the country bar none.
TWO FAU PLAYERS I hope Hickey at least takes a look at; 1) D’Joun Smith, the best DB to ever play at Florida Atlantic. He’s touted as a 3rd-round talent BUT if he’s still around in round 5, I’d take him and 2) Lucky Whitehead, FAU wideout and kick returner who lead Conference USA in pass receptions last season. Small guy with blazing speed. Kinda a poor man’s Dri Archer, Whitehead is a threat to score any time he gets his hands on the ball. Would be a terrific F/A signing, especially if Wallace gets the boot and Miami has a NEED FOR SPEED!!!
“Jahn,
The anecdotal evidence is there to support your position, too. There are no all star receivers on either team (in the Super Bowl). Smart qb-ing, solid line play on both sides of the ball.”
Good point Try. Didn’t consider that myself. I just think the difference between us and the playoffs is not WR play. It’s line play.
Jahn
I did this draft on Wednesday, thought it covered all the bases.
Your score is: 5433 (GRADE: A-)
Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 14: Leonard Williams, DT, Southern California (A)
Round 2 Pick 15: Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB, Oregon (A-)
Round 3 Pick 14: Clive Walford, TE, Miami (Fla.) (A)
Round 4 Pick 15: Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, Texas A&M (A)
Round 5 Pick 14: Ty Montgomery, WR, Stanford (A)
Round 6 Pick 15: Tyler Varga, FB, Yale (A)
Round 7 Pick 15: Derrick Malone Jr., OLB, Oregon (B+)
I’d love to see Williams last until 14! Doubt he makes it out of the top five .
He won’t Bri – Shelton was there though, and he would have been my pick. I thought it was crazy that he was there, but I wasn’t NOT going to take him. lol
Williams Ifo and Walford is ridiculous
WR I’m not paying enough attention too who’s probably near the top of Miamis list is Nelson Agohlar from USC.
Piggy – I can actually see Walford lasting to the 3rd RD.
this blog doesnt need a swear jar, most of us would go broke. it need a $10 word jar. lol
jahn
i think my comment just said, it doesnt matter the conference. it matters if the draftee is a player or not. like i said some of the best ever at their positions came out of small conferences or not even drafted.
What’s up FUers? I still love saying that. LOL. Nice job Piggy…I mean Wedge. I like Shelton. He would be a great fit for us. I still think I want Shaq Thompson more but I would be happy with Shelton.
Hey FFR, Ken – What’s shakin?
i dont get all you guys talking about draft pics. i really dont. dont you get the only way to the super bowl now a days is the owner sucking up to roger and you head coach finding away to cheat your way up top.
Hard to argue FFR
i am joking but not in so much. come on yeah after year the pats draft low. and hell it isnt like they draft some one who dominates. i would so love to thing the nfl isnt the wwf but it is. as long as kraft has roger in his back pocket the pats will always get those ‘wow’ calls and rules. it is what it is the fins are not now the nfl darlings. they have an uphill climb
Hey Mike E. Work sucks that’s what’s shaking. Brutal week and another one coming up.
mike, i have been saying it for years. mostly tongue in cheek cause the pats win. and i hate them. but even listening to tampa radio sports talk, there is a lot of talk about every time they get to the SB there is rumor of cheating. i would so like to be wrong but it is what it is. they get there amongst rumors. and when the commish is partying with the owner it does look way bad.

Good to c u. Hey I took the grandkids down to Versailles Restaurant to see democracy at its finest. It was amazing to see all the news trucks and cubans discussing the presidents cuba decision. The restaurant doesn’t take mastercard now that they decided to restart financial business relations. I’ve been to the place several times but never on a Saturday/Sunday. There must have been 50 news trucks lining the street. Several International ones also. Alot of local and national politicians. I’m glad you got to eat at this Cuban landmark when you were down here.
Ken
Sorry to hear that man. Why so busy now? Or is this the new norm?
It’s kind of the new norm. The job I took is a busier office. Higher case volume and the company is writing more policies. So it while it sucks that I am also hopping case to case and court to court at least I am not looking over my shoulder wondering when the next cut back is going to come because file counts are down.
Understood. I know exactly what you mean.
FFR
Besides the cheating and refs in their pocket, they do have an excellent HC, and great QB. They seem to be interchange pieces every year and make it work. Sucks that we’re in their division.
To play the what if game. Would the Pats dynasty in our division have been so dominant if we signed Brees instead of Culpepper? Colin Cowherd, who I normally can’t stand made a great point that the Pats dynasty, or at least the 2nd half of it, has been sustained largely by a medical opinion on the part of our team physician.
Mike
I guess Walford lasting to the 3rd isn’t crazy
They can’t all be 2nd rounders…lol
What’s up Piggy? Nice job on the scouting report.
Thanks Ken

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000461587/article/mayock-clive-walford-most-explosive-tight-end-in-2015-draft
Here is a story about a Walford
mike,
wow really? i do so question that. i mean in a league that year and and year out a coach wants a consistent roster. now they can have all this turn over year after year and win. yet when they get this far year and and year out a cheating scandal so what it is. is he that great a coach which i have my doubts or they get ever fricking call and they bend rules or even cheat.
well ok yeah they are just that great. and all of a sudden after 50ish years all of a sudden two men in baseball are obliterating the single season home run legend. and hey there were not cheating either back then.
That would be living the dream Ken…
LOL.. Good Wedding Crashers reference. Just living the dream.
I think in most drafts, Walford would be a 4th or 5th RD pick. It’s just a shitty draft for TE;s, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he goes 2nd RD. he may even go late 3rd or 4th. He still is what he is, and taking him earlier won’t make him any better.
Says the guy who was screaming because we didn’t draft Amaro. JKBBLOL.
Amaro will be a good TE. He showed some flashes of what he could do. Also take into consideration he’s playing for the Jets, and Geno Smith.
Amaro was something of a disappointment this year. Yes he had Geno Smith but Amaro was exactly helping himself either. He struggled in his own right. He had some moments but he is far from a sure thing. Landry on the other hand looks like a stud. We did well.
Ken
I hate to say this, but I’d bet Brees wouldn’t have had the career here that he’s had in Nawlins. Everything just worked out great for him there.
Brees would have been great where ever he went. He is a hell of a talent and Saban wouldn’t have left like a punk bitch had he signed Brees instead of Culpepper.
NOLA was not in that great of shape when Brees went there. They were a mess when he signed there. We were considered an up and coming team when we passed on Brees and NOLA was seen as the after thought. Brees wanted to come to Miami as he saw that as the better opportunity.
any of u watching the heat game? The whiteside new guy is killing it he already has 21 rebounds and 16 points and its only half way through the 3rd quarter.
Sorry jetssuck, Knicks fan here, and they suck 1000x worse than the Dolphins, so even if they were playing the Knicks I wouldn’t be watching.
FFR – It can’t be all cheating, that would require a lot of people to cooperate. Something would come out, a lot more than we’ve heard about. JMO

Good point Try. Didn’t consider that myself. I just think the difference between us and the playoffs is not WR play. It’s line play.
____________
I’d say line play is still a big part of it because the run and pass blocking still isn’t were it needs to be. If we can run the ball more consistently it’s only going to help with the passing game but we need to be able to run the ball when we want and eat up clock and we can’t or run it for more explosive plays to keep the defense honest.
Likewise, we need to be able to pass protect better but if we can run block it will make pass protection easier.
Where our wr play is concerned some, but not as much, blame falls onto these guys and I say that because with Landry playing as well as he did and Wallace having a 10 td year I’d say Hartline and Gibson could have done better than their 2 td and 1 td years, respectively.
So, there’s a few things contributing, some more than others, but it’s like this year in and year out. You think Hartline is going to have a better year with Wallace here for his 2nd season and Landry in the mix and Hartline shits the bed.
No consistency. Maybe if we get more solid on the line things DO get much better in the passing game but if everything’s got to be perfect for some receivers to get the job done and not so much perfect for others than maybe the guys who need it to be perfect should be looked at more closely as to whether they should be here or not.
Agree Hartline and Gibson were disappointing this year. We can still use an upgrade at WR but OL is still my priority if I were a GM. The fell apart late in the season. I know injuries were a part of that but we still need 2 OGs and depth at OT.
Yepper. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Maybe Hulk can play guard AND tackle for us.
mike
ok belicheat is the only coach in history who can change a roster year in and year out and win. it has nothing at all to do with him cheating and/or getting the refs in his back pocket.
hey i told you wish i was wrong and the nfl isnt the nba. but it just is
Bellicheat hasn’t won sheet since spygate.
Jahn,
I’m HOPING, although I don’t like to take things for granted anymore, Turner and Thomas step up this year and contribute on the o-line with at least one of them being a starter. If we turn around and get one guy in FA then so much the better than the depth should get better on the line but I still wouldn’t be above trying to get at least one of the better o-lineman in the draft. My personal preference of course is Tomlinson but I trust Hickey to make the decision.
It would be great if some of the young talent we have on the d-line steps it up too but if we get one in FA that’s ok too. Also, I’d love to see us take one of the better tackles in the draft to help out. We need to stop the run as much as we need to run the ball better.
However, with the amount of talent there is out there at the wr position in this draft I wouldn’t be a happy camper if we didn’t take at least ONE of them.
You know how much I’ve pounded the table for guys like Torrey Smith, Randall Cobb and Terrance Williams in the past only to watch them go elsewhere.
If we don’t get at least ONE I’ll need to stick my head in a bucket of ice on draft day to cool off. LOL
I think the ship has sailed on Thomas but I still have hope for Turner.
You don’t think he did a decent job at RT when James had to play LT for Albert?
God, that’s such a disgusting thought to think Jeffro picked another absolute turd for the o-line. Good luck Saints.
I thought it was a horror show when Thomas had to play RT, especially in pass protection. It was like watching Johnathan Martin part deux. He got overwhelmed by anybody who had a modicum of strength.
You were doing fine and then you lost me at “modicum”. LOL
You sick bastard. I don’t want to hear about your modicum.
Is there anyone out there that still thinks Dion Jordan will be an impact player for us?
Crickets. lol
LOL. That’s what I thought.
I doubt it Ken. He hasn’t show a fucking thing except on ST’s
Regardless of whether or not he got a late start last season due to injury and this season due to the suspension if we haven’t seen more from him than what we’ve seen to this point I’d rather trade him to Kelly and get a good player from the Eagles.
Keep in mind. Now that I’ve said this Jordan will have one of the best years a Fins DE has ever had. LOL
There is a small part of me that thinks he can be our anti Gronk OLB. Then I wake up.
FFR – The competition in our division has been subpar for quite some time. That’s not the Patriots fault. If they were in the AFC West, or AFC North, they would’ve had a tougher road the last decade. You can’t discount that.
I’m just hoping to get regular production out of Jordan
Maybe Strahan should give him some Meta
I’m watching the heat game jest suck
To bad Dallas just went on a big run

The modicum is the thing that “dials up” and connect you to the interwebs
oh, the thing that was invented by George Dubbya!
YES!!
Thank God. I saw the last 3 letters of the word and thought he was getting all John Holmes on us.
There is a certain similarity.
LOL. I could only dream. My wife told me to give her 9 inches and make it hurt so I fucked her 3 times and punched her in the face.
Modicum has to be at least a $5 word. Where’s Jahn. I need a ruling on this. LOL.

Yeah, I’m skeptical on Dallas Thomas myself, but I’m not quite at the “the ship has sailed” point just yet.
I also can’t count on him. Here’s who I can count on: Albert (barely, because he has a hard time completing seasons), Pouncey (at Center, although I know there’s plenty who want him gone, if I were GM I think he’s worth every penny..again, at center), James (because he proved he can be counted on.
That leaves 2 big holes at Guard. Maybe one of who we have makes a year over year improvement, but I’d draft (probably highly…first two rounds) the other one. I haven’t looked at the FA Market, but I’m not big on the idea of spending a bunch of money on free agents this offseason so I think getting a guy I can count on has to come from the draft.
++++++
Albert’s injury was a freak injury. It’s not it was a chronic issue that prevented him from finishing a season. A guy rolled up on his leg. Could have been any body.
But he has had a lot of injuries
Usually less severe stuff
Ken, I can’t remember the specifics, but he’s failed to end a few seasons in recent history. I remember having this discussion with Tim about Ronnie Brown. No matter how random the injuries/causes, at some point the player is injury prone. At any rate, I’m not looking to replace Albert, I just have concerns as to whether he’s around if we (ever) make the playoffs.
yeah, I think Jahn was referring to his injury history going back to his days at KC
yeah, kind of like ………………………………………….misi?
He had a back issue when he was at KC. It cost him a couple of games at the end of one season and maybe a couple in another season. His injury this year was a freak injury. I think it is unfair to lump that on him. A guy rolled up on him. Could have been anyone.
Actually maybe it was more of a large number of missed games in the last 3 years. I remember being a bit taken aback.
I kind of like spending big fa $ on OL
Mike E,
Saw your draft early. LOL @ all the Pac-12 players! If you want an A+ from me though you need to focus more on the CA Public universities and less on the privates. More Cal, UCLA, and less Stanford/SC!
LOL….only kinda kidding. I guess I can’t rule out good players from SC/Stanford, but they always have me seeing red. 🙂
I don’t have any preference of conference, I don’t really watch college ball. I just research good players, regardless of where they play.
Was just kidding of course.
I must admit I really like Agholor but he scares the shit out of me and that’s why I’ve never put him on my list.
OK Jahn, so Tomlinson, Kouandijo, Ogbuehi? Who is it?
Cann. lol
LOL, yes
I think AJ Cann is pretty good too, and La’el Collins
Yeah, Collins too. I was high on him last year but he decided to stay.
LOL..I’ll let you choose.
ALL of them!
Imagine that frickin’ offensive line. We’d be able to play different guys every game.
LOL@ Lou…create “matchup problems” for Defensive Lineman. That’s innovative!
LMAO @ Lou’s 10:18
Me too. LOL.
Piggy,
Who’s on the FA market that you’d spend on? Iupati? I think he’s going to be too expensive. Between him Albert and Pouncey it’d be a TON of cap space devoted to OL. Maybe it’s a cause that merit’s it though…I really feel like Tannehill’s ready to take the next step.
What about Franklin?
Iupati would be exactly what we need on OL. A tough interior OG. Yes he may break the bank but I would love that signing.
We could end up with 25% of our salary cap devoted to OL, but hell, maybe it’s worth it….it’s a sellers market, he’s gonna make HUGE money IMHO.
I know it’s a lot of money on OL but I do think it would be worth it. OL has been the achilles heel of this team for too long. We have a young QB who is coming into his own. We have a RB that is coming into his prime. Get some OL and let this O flourish.
^Exactly why I want to draft one. You can actually plan on keeping the drafted ones for 4 years, whereas, seems like most FA contracts end up being 2 year deals, 3 max these days, and then you’re shopping again. Look at Pouncey, Wake, Wallace and Hartline’s contracts. All of those contracts have been scrutinized wondering if the production is worth it. With a rookie contract, if there’s production, it’s guaranteed to be worth it.
Jahn:
I have no issue if we went OL early in the draft and there is some sense in doing that. My only concern is to get someone who can have an impact immediately. Last year we were .500 on that with James a big hit and Turner still developing. We need an impact player now. That’s why I prefer going OL in FA because it is more of a sure thing but I would be fine if we went OL heavy in the draft.
ken
no jordan wont. but that is you fault. if you gave him some of the green love like you do me he would be smashing away. it is all your fault
It’s hard for me to give him some green love when you got me chained to the couch. So who’s fault is it after all?
Ken,
It’s important to me that you know I’m not putting his injury history on him, but he’s missed a fair amount of games in the last 3 years, and I think it’s honest fodder when assessing his reliability.
All of that said, and again, I did list him as a guy I could count on, I’d just like to know we’ve got a solid backup at LT is all…
I didn’t think his prior history was as bad as you said but I have not gone to look it up. I trust you on your recollection of that. I just think the injury this year was a fluke with a guy rolling up on him and it’s hard to put that on him for being injury prone guy. That could have happened to anybody. To me the injury prone label is for a guy with a chronic issue that keeps recurring. That’s not what happened with Albert this year. It was something completely different than what was bothering him at KC and was something that could have happened to anybody.
Yeah, but was Ronnie Brown “Injury prone”? I only ask because it’s an interesting parralell. He missed a lot (way more then Albert) of games, but mostly on random, in some cases, freak, injuries.
Likewise I thought the Ronnie Brown injury prone label was overblown as well.
ken
now you know have you chained you love it, but you know you can break away on your own
Your couch is my cryptonite. LOL.
I don’t need to be chained to a couch. Gravity works just fine for me.
LOL.
Jahn
Iupati is probably my dream FA
I basically hated the Wallace signing
Loved the Albert signing
And would love signing Iupati
I think it’s okay tp spend a big chunk of your salary cap on OL
I feel like its a little less risky than spending fa $ on Skill positions
++++++++
Woop woop
Well over 400 comments today, even without Tim…lol
We are doing really good on this blog so far!
Indeed Piggy, Indeed.
If you have a lot of $ allocated to OL and QB
And then you have a young D and skill positions
I think that is a good formula
More good arguments.
You make a good case Piggy. But I don’t know if we can swing it to be honest. We’re ok on cap, but one more blockbuster offseason signing might end up putting us behind the salary cap 8-ball the very year when we have to negotiate what is going to be a VERY expensive Tannehill contract.
Ultimately I don’t think we sign Iupati because he will be too expensive. However, I would love it if we can.
Ken on Ronnie Brown, I used to fight that fight. But at some point, an injury is an injury and a game missed is a game missed. It’s all ethereal, but as imaginary GM, I’d have to consider those things in the “reliability” category. Whether it’s labeled “injury prone” or not, doesn’t matter much I guess…
Injuries are a risk with every signing and draft choice. To me the issue is if there is a chronic condition that will limit a player. Otherwise the rest is a crap shoot if a player stays healthy or gets hurt. It is a violent sport.
I get ya.
I mean
I get it
It’s probably not likely we even make a play on Iupati
But I live among the clouds
So I dream…
Goodnight all! I have to get up early for work tomorrow. Peace!
Peace Mike E.
Cheers Mike E! Glad to get a couple minutes bloggin’ with ya tonight!
Likewise Jahn! Haven’t see you much lately. It is the offseason, so that’s understandable.
Just mad busy my friend. To all of you guys who set it up…I very much appreciate the new blog.
Gotta go to Dinner, but if I get a chance to blog with ya some other time Piggy, lets figure out how we fit Iupati @ 9M per (that’s the magic number) under the cap. I’m intrigued with the concept even if I still want one early in the draft. Lets just make this line bullet proof and send Tannehill, this offense and this team off to the races.
I’m out to
Gotta a pile of mud waiting fir me
Alright. I need to call it a night as well. Just happy to finally get some quality blogging time in. I am out. Peace to you all.
D/Jahn
I think Shelton definitely has some strengths. He’s quick off the ball, CAN shed blockers well at times….sometimes just shrugging guys off….but doesn’t always do it. He plays hard and seems to be a self-motivated guy. It’s more his ceiling I’m worried about. Frankly, I’d ike to see what he could do at 315. I think he’s carrying a little too much weight.
As to the competition comment, I was speaking specifically about guys I watched play against him. I wasn’t trying to make a comment about a league or conference or whatever. I think he went up against some OL that didn’t look real good in the way they played. Was it Shelton making them look bad? It didn’t always look that way to me. But, the kid made a lot of hustle plays. Again, he’s a topflight talent in this draft, I’m not trying to say he sucks….just don’t see his value at #14. I don’t see an Aaron Donald, Sheldon Richardson, Star L., Dareus sort of player…..I see a guy a tier below that.
Trying to figure all this stuff out is the fun of the draft!
Tomlinson has moved up to a 2nd rd projection now, rated the 49th best prospect at this time, which is close to where we’d be in the 2nd. Cann is right there with him at this time but he may even move up a little before the draft. Tomlinson could too. Doesn’t mean that’s where they end up going but they both can still move up a bit.
But, imagine taking Collins, Cann or Tomlinson and then Ogbuehi in the 3rd. Is it worth it or is it not diversified enough? Then, you can take Donovan Smith in the 4th. LOL.
If Hickey did something like that two things would happen. One, the fans would be out for blood and, two, I think he’d piss off some teams for hogging so many o-lineman. lol
Ya’ll can keep your shinny first round WR
I’ll take this one in the 3rd maybe 4th
Tony Lippett Michigan State Spartans Junior Wide Receiver #14
I like Lippett a lot, but not for this offense. He is a bigger version of Hartline who’s not as clean of a route runner, but does catch better on contact and high points the ball. He doesn’t make people miss and really doesn’t break tackles. Once again I appreciate the player, but don’t see a fit with our offense.
Good morning! A pleasant 13 degrees, with wind chills below zero. I just cranked the heat up at work, by the time the rest of the staff gets in, it will be toasty warm.
We’re at one right now with a wind chill of -15. Son has indoor soccer, but the facility is a non insulated steel building so it should be about 10 degrees before they get the heater going in there….LOL
That sucks! They shouldn’t start until the heat has been on for an hour or so.
Morning! We are at 1 degree as well, with wind chills between -15 and -29.
Where’s Randy? He’s probably at -20, with wind chills of -40
There’s a lot of shrinkage going on here. lol
Lol!
Mike,
It’s so cold with the wind, I skipped my son’s morning ski lesson time and am just going to take him to the 12:30 one. He’d definitely go out in it, but IMO that’s dangerous weather for a little guy.
That’s the one thing I never cared for when I went skiing. I enjoyed skiing, but going up on lifts in frigid temps, and sometimes getting stuck up there, or just going to the top of a high mountain, you could be a popsicle by the time you get to the top. You’re just up there sitting, fully exposed to the wind and cold, it sucks!
Yeah. My son couln’t have better gear to keep him warm, but there’s only so much you can do when it’s that cold. -11 on Monday here!
Bit cool here as well
I mean damn 57 degrees
I actually needed to put on a long sleeve t-shirt
The horror of it all
That’s rough man. I feel bad for ya
I’m a southern boy through and through lol
We live on a twenty degree swing
95 summer, 75 winter
Get outside of that and you really feel it, weird
Funny I have left out of here twice to go fishing up in mosquito lagoon
When it’s in the 80’s loading up, sweating
So I take off in shorts and flips
Head three hours north to find its in the 40’s lol
If we’re giving weather reports, then it’s °23 here, about 10 miles due east of Churchill Downs, under mostly cloudy skies, with a light wind out of the NW, making the “feels like” temperature °22.
Nice area up there, was watching a show on bourbon that showcased Kentucky
Looks pretty cool
Bourbon, like Jack Daniels? 😉
Mike….
Mike….http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/expressions/shaking-head-smiley-emoticon.gif
Forget it- it ain’t gonna happen..
Correction: it is partly cloudy, with increasing clouds as the day goes on.
Lol
Jack wants to be a bourbon
I don’t drink a lot, but when I do…
I was in NOLA awhile back my brother a I were drinking
Pappy van winkle
Well at that price it was more like sipping
Really nice stuff
It’s sunny and a balmy 12 degrees here. Where are my flip flops?
A canibalistic hill billy stole so he had better footing while he mounts his mountain goat 😇
That’s funny you mention a mountain goat. There is one that I see all the time, up on a hill beside the road that goes to a shopping area. My daughter is always looking for it, it’s become kind of a game to see who spots it first.
Well I’m out, you guys have a great day and stay warm
Oh and F the pats
Cya, DCoral
I tried to manufacture some interest in the Super bowl but the Herd has a player on both teams. I guess I’m going with Seattle being I really don’t want the Pats to win. I have to think the league wants Seattle to win as well. Makes the whole deflategate thing a little less of an issue.
LOL Herd. I was so surprised when. I lived in WV how many people kept goats as pets.
From Walter Football

1rd Kevin White, WR, West Virginia
2nd Mario Edwards, DE/DT, Florida State ( I haven’t looked into him at all)
3rd Chris Hackett, S, TCU
What up? Looking at the ocean from Hilton head. It’s not like summer but it’s warmer than up north.😎
I wondered if you were going to Hilton Head. Going to salty dog? I got a little lit at the bar by the light house.
No pun intended…
