FU Ground Hog Day

groundhog day

It’s appropriate that Ground Hog Day falls on the Monday after the Super Bowl. No matter which team has won, we’ve all seen this before. The NFL season is officially over and we have a long off season ahead of us. Here’s what we have to look forward to.

Free Agency…who stays, who goes? Who is out there that could make a difference on our roster?

imageimage

Nick Fairley

Frank Gore

The Draft…all that young talent, some future Hall of Famers, some future busts. Who do we end up with?

Danny Shelton

Shaq Thompson

Coaching changes…what new faces will we see on the sideline? OTA’s, Mini camp, Training Camp, and Pre-season games. We can get a few glimpses of our team and speculate on the progression or regression we see.

Ifo- Walford1

Will this be another year where we see our shadow and endure more years of mediocrity or will we finally get to see a new day?

    First?
What a fucking horrible ending to the game. What an incredible highlight reel catch to get them in scoring position. All they had to do was handed off to Marshon Lynch. Two tries to get one yard. You don’t think beastmode would have gotten in? I am sick. I am disgusted seeing the cheaters hoist another trophy

  3. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I am severely depressed today. My wife and I had the “final” talk yesterday and determined that there is no way to salvage our marriage. The Patriots won. Football is over And we are entering the log off season drought and will have to listen about the Patriot Way for the next month. Everything is just fucking horrible

About 5 months ago we were talking about how the Pats were done, and we were going to be competing for the divisional championship. LOL. Just goes to show the importance of learning to win in December and January. September wins don’t mean shit.

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

Wins in September are still important, but you have to improve throughout the entire season. Coaching and execution needs to evolve w/ as the season moves forward.

    Ken,

IMO Pete Carroll is a very good coach. Yes, he has some excellent assistants surrounding him, but that’s also part of being a good coach. He has a very aggressive style, and is perhaps a little reckless at times. He made a bone-headed call, easily the worst call in the history of the NFL, but you can’t deny his success: 50 regular season wins in five years, with four playoff appearances and two SB appearances, and one Championship. I’ll take that any day.

Brian I have never thought Pete Carroll was a good coach from back to his days in New England. He always outsmarts himself. His success at USC was because his team was more talented than any other team. He also paid to have the most talented team, more than the other teams were paying their players. I was at least happy to see his stupidity put full on display once again. It was the worst play call in NFL history and I am happy it exposed Carroll for the fraud he is.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I don’t think it is luck. It is coaching. Bellicheat’s players are disciplined enough to still play the pass when facing Marshawn Lynch in short yardage. That’s discipline, that’s coaching. Our coach calls TOs in crucial situations to make sure the other team has enough time to run a play.

Let’s play Dion Jordan at TE and draft Dante Fowler Jr.
    ————————————
Very few times has he fallen to me when i was doing those mock drafts but I have truly considered selecting him. He is one of those super high motor to go along with very high athletic ability guys. Only reasons i have never brought him up is because i feel we are fairly solid OLB, and need a guy who can play MLB instead. He is going to be a stud, but im also thinking a likely top 10 dude.

    • D's avatar D says:

If we miss at Cb this year, next year we can look at Hargreaves from UF as well. He loves playing the game, very very motivated player. These are people you just want on your team and i was lucky to have both on my college team last couple of years.

    D,
Fowler does seem to have solidified a top ten ranking in most places, unfortunately for us. He can play all over the front 7 and with a high motor, I’d love to get him here.

    • D's avatar D says:

Yeah, he is probably better than Easley, who i still feel will be dominant in years to come, he also can play any technique on the DL, and both can drop into coverage on occasion without looking ridiculous at it.

  50. D's avatar D says:

I may be in the minority here, for obvious reasons, but im glad Pats won. I think i hate the hype around Seattle more than the ball licking service everyone pays the Pats year in and year out. The Seattle players irk me too, their attitudes and trash-talking is just tired and im over it. As i said prior to the game, i really would love it if the NFL made an exception and neither one could win, but since that wasnt in the cards, im happier with NE winning. It was a gift though, Seattle had that in the bag, Even Brady would have faltered in getting them back down the field in 20 seconds, so yeah i agree with you, worst play call i have seen in a Superbowl in recent memory, potentially in any game in recent memory. Im hoping getting a 4th SB ring, will make Brady walk away from the game. 4 rings, guaranteed spot in the Hall, smoking hot supermodel wife, kids, why put yourself throught he grind, the controversy, the coach who will bail on you at the drop of a hat, instead of just walking off a winner and enjoying the rest of your incredibly awesome life lol. I dont know if he will, but there has never been a better time IMO.

    • D's avatar D says:

Maybe he is waiting to see what Peyton’s decisions will be…. I dunno but both of them leaving football the same year would eb pretty awesome for AFC teams lol.

      • son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Time for Tannehill to nut up if that’s the case. Leave no question who will fill the void.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I don’t think Brady retires. Think he loves football and won’t be happy with being a trophy husband (Giselle already makes twice what he does).

Could see him moving to another team though, but only if deflategate creates bad blood btwn him and the E genius as they try to throw each other under the bus.

  51. new age's avatar new age says:

Worst SB I’ve watched. Petey is an idiot. The pundits say that Seattle is getting ready to sign Lynch to a giant deal for a modern RB. So, they are smart enough to know what drives that team’s success but not smart enough to use him in the biggest moment of the year. What can you say?

Pats earned their part of this win but anyone who doesn’t think their cheating affects games didn’t read the guy who studied their fumble ratio. What win games Petey Carroll? TOs and the flat balls prevent them. Look at how many ints Brady suddenly was having. Also, that team is completely different without Gronk. Why he isn’t their MVP I don’t know.

  52. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Stanger I can’t see how deflategate could unfold in such a way that the pats and Tom part ways. They seem to have a unified front. Kraft was even declaring in his post game interview that “nobody did anything to those balls”. This is going to blow over like a warm spring breeze. There’s no way Goodell would even consider tarnishing his best bud’s name and accomplishment. He’d rather besmirch the entire rest of the league and the remaining bit of integrity they still may have.

  53. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I think the playcall cuts twice. 1) Gave away a superbowl title. As Boulder mentioned, that’ll haunt them for the rest of their lives. 2) Crushed a young QB’s confidence in the wake of a horrible NFC Championship game. That’ll haunt Wilson the rest of his career too.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

agreed. I think that call might change the direction of that team going forward. It was that bad. They had the ring. All they had to do was hand it off to beast mode.

  54. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    D,
Tom Brady dismissed the idea of going out on top and retiring after the Patriots’ Super Bowl win.
“No. I’ve got a lot of football left,” Brady said. He’ll be 38 before next season, but Brady is still playing at an extremely high level. He’s not the downfield thrower anymore, but Brady remains one of the elite quarterbacks in the league. As long as he and Rob Gronkowski are healthy, Brady is on the QB1 map.

    • D's avatar D says:

A lot of people think other retire when they are in decline, some wanna walk out on top. He has noting to play for….not saying he will do it, but i also wouldnt be at all shocked if he hung em up this off season.

A few of my friends have gone through this. My best advice, try to see if you guys can work out the settlement as much as you can on your own.

  69. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

It might not stop her from suing you for alimony down the line of she feels like she needs it. But it’s worth a try.

You might not need to hire an attorney and fight it all out

  73. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rock – I’m not going to offer any advice because I simply don’t know the right way to handle your situation. It does sound best to keep the lawyers out of it though for as long as you can.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Always best to keep it without a contest. Only reason you don’t is if the other side is bat shiot unreasonable. Chances are a lawyer will have to be involved in some way though if the finances are other than real simple, but that includes just getting the thing done.

  76. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I think we are really going to need Brady to get injured again, or retire if we are to have a chance of winning the division. There is just so much distance between us and them right now.

  77. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Rock:
Find a different lawyer. It’s BS he would charge for an initial consultation. The goal should be to try to get you as a client. Charging an upfront fee is just a way to see how much you are willing to pay. It’s a guy who plans to bill you to no end. There are plenty of lawyers who will not charge for an initial consultation because they want your business and know divorces can be difficult.

  78. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

LOL Brian, it’s not Brady we need to worry about, it’s Goodells relationship w/ Kraft. It’s this relationship that allows the Pats to cheat no -stop and also gives them an extra ace up their sleeve with officials.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

All of the consistently good teams get breaks with the refs. Once we get there again, those calls will go our way. I can’t see the NFL fining the Pats anything significant now, or taking away draft picks now that the are the SB Champs.

  79. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I don’t buy the Patriots mystique either Ken, they are just clearly much better than us right now. It doesn’t matter if we can beat them head to head once a year; they beat the other teams i the league on a regular basis that we don’t. We are basically fighting for a WC spot every year with the in our division..

About 5 months ago we were talking about how the Pats were done, and we were going to be competing for the divisional championship. LOL. Just goes to show the importance of having the commish in your back pocket.

    there fixed it for you

  81. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Fun Super Bowl to watch. I didn’t care who won….just wanted a competitive game. I think people are going a little overboard on the final Seattle call. Lynch had failed on several(I think) short runs earlier in the game….and it wasn’t like he had a dominant game. People are acting like it was a given he would’ve scored….nobody knows for certain. Hindsight in playcalling is always perfect. Lol. The NE defender simply made a great play, and the Hawks receiver could’ve made a stronger play on the ball. If they’d run Lynch and he didn’t get in, people would be calling Carroll an idiot for being so predictable.

I hope we make it there before I become too senile to enjoy it…..maybe it’s too late already.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Which would you rather be explaining, why you couldn’t get your bread and butter playmaker into the end zone, or why you couldn’t get in on a very questionable play call?
Point being, I could much easier look myself in the mirror and face my fan base on one over the other.

The United Sates is a great place to be a woman; they have all of the rights in a divorce….. My best advice, try to see if you guys can work out the settlement as much as you can on your own.

nope, the best advice is dont get fucking married.

  83. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I wonder how the courts decide whom to screw when two lesbians get divorced….must be the butch one.

  84. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

if that is the case and the cheats walk away from this with no penalty i am done with the wwf, i mean the nba….dammit i mean the nfl.

if they get no penalty it is a proven fact the fix is in with kraft and goodell. i wont watch pro football anymore.

They are better but I don’t put them on a pedestal. We can compete for a division title but it takes some better coaching and some more talent. The focus should be on fixing that and not on when is Brady going to retire. I never concede that my opponent is superior to me. My focus is on what do I have to do to beat him.

Rockphin, I hope things turn out well for you. A reset as you call it at 46 isn’t the end of the world. I’m doing it at 53.

For all of you saying how women always come out ahead in a divorce, I’m here to tell you that’s not always the case. At least that’s how it seems to me.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Herd — agreed on that it is not about women. Mostly has do to with who makes the most money and a big issue is child support, and the Moms normally end up the caretakers of the kids. Checks involved with that one. Most divorce laws are distinctly sex neutral.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Thanks But as I understand it there are no “winners”
I just don’t think it’s fair that I have supported her for the last 10 years In any endeavor She wanted to try. Nursing school sure I’ll pay for it. She got her certificate and doesn’t nurse. Real estate school sure I’ll pay for it. She got her certificate and doesn’t practice real estate. Buying and selling stuff on eBay? If that’s what will make you happy sure go right ahead. Now after 10 years of this shit she’s unhappy with me and I will have to pay her alimony????? It’s just not fair. I can see from your point of view that you feel that you didn’t get a fair shake. But like I said to begin with there are no winners In a divorce. We both stand to lose more than just half Of what we built together

  88. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Randy:
It was a terrible call to throw there. The Seahawks have 2 great options from the 1 yard line. They have the best goal line runner in football and the best running QB in football. For whatever Lynch failed to earlier in the game he did score one short yardage TD and he had no negative runs. 3 shots from the 1 with Lynch and Wilson, no brainer to run it imo. Totally stupid decision to throw. This is what big uglies live for. C’mon Randy.

  89. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Trypod,
None of us know what the Seattle coaches feel good about or have confidence in. Like I said, lynch failed to get a crucial first down earlier in the game on a short yardage run….and had just failed to get much positive yardage the previous play, didn’t he? Maybe they felt they needed to go against their tendencies and see if it worked because NE was playing to stop Lynch. I’m pretty sure they weren’t expecting a NE backup to make a phenomenal play for an INT.

Also, if you’re gonna second-guess every call that doesn’t work, you won’t be a head coach for long because they all have failed calls every game. It wasn’t a bad call. It was a great defensive play by the NE kid.

Didn’t watch the game and judging by a lot of the reactions here I’m glad I didn’t because I’d probably be extremely disgusted but the fact that I didn’t watch and didn’t see anything that happened makes me a happy camper.
Let’s just hope we have the right people in place to bring our team back to glory.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Great game, bad result. Will be in the talk for best bowl ever though.

And of course what we want is an Aqua and Orange one.

  91. professor lou's avatar professor lou says:

I’ll be honest with you guys. The Pats won another won. I don’t give a flying pig, uh, fig. Time to focus on FA and the draft and the udfa’s after the draft, camp and the season. I’m just hoping there is a definite sense of urgency in Miami right now after the Pats have stole another SB. The guys this team has at the top need to look at it like it’s their jobs if they don’t put together a team that can compete like the Pats week in and week out. Time to stop screwing around and get some players in here.

  92. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Randy:
Guys like Tom Jackson and Emmett Smith have called it the worst play call in football history. 3 shots from the 1 with the best goal line runner in the NFL and you throw? No way. Its a fuck up of historic and monumental proportion and it exposes Carroll for the idiot he really is. With that I have to run. Peace.

  93. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I was watching the game with my brother who knows jack about football. I remember him saying after the Seahawks got to the 1 that the Pats need an int now. I turned to him and said there is no way they are running the ball here but….. Now I am out.
