Wedge Scouting Report: Denzel Perryman

DPerryman3Wedge ID

When I was a young tadpole I knew nothing about Earth.  We didn’t really care much for this side of the Universe.  Until one day when I received a strange transmission.  It was a commercial for the NFL’s Greatest hits on BETA!  after I was finished laughing about the format of the video I began to watch the hitting.  These guys were killing each other – it was amazing.  I fell in love with Earth at that moment.  Where else can you drive your shoulder into another lifeform until he hits the ground to demonstrate great technique?NFlGreatest

You can imagine how disappointed I was when I came to this planet and learned that the game had changed to a Tom Brady-Friendly game, where defensive players were penalized if they did anything else but target another players knees on a hit.  So when I was assigned to research how to destroy the Earth – I was overcome with joy!  If there is no more violence in football, I’m going to make some violence of my own.  But you know what, lately I’m having a crisis of conscious.  You know why?  Because Denzel Perryman will knock your head off that’s why!  Now shut your bitchy human mouth and accept your pain!  This guy can hit!!!

D.Perryman1

Perryman is a 6’0, 235 lbs Linebacker out of Miami, the real Miami not the one in Ohio.  Undersized?  I don’t think so, he has a great stout frame and he uses it to hammer away at ball carriers.  Its something else to watch a guy with that U on his helmet wearing the number 52 and thumping people.  Reminds me of Ray Lewis.  Perryman has a long way to live up to Lewis’ career but if he stays healthy and physical he can be a pro bowl caliber Middle Linebacker.

DPerryman2

So is it all just thumping ball carriers?  In this day and age NFL scouts want their Inside Linebackers to cover.  Perryman can do that too.  He is a versatile Linebacker, not a 2 down guy.  He should be able to run with most backs and tight ends in the NFL.

DPerryman3

In four years in Miami, Perryman had 2 Interceptions and 4.5 sacks.  But the real impressive stats are his 7 forces fumbles and 343 tackles.  That’s a middle linebacker!!!

Dperryman5

Perryman is expected to be drafted anywhere between the late first round to the late 2nd round.  It will be interesting to see if his combine numbers cause him to fall.  He is not exactly a great athlete with jaw dropping combine numbers.

DPerryman4

But it’s not Perryman’s athleticism that is going to save the Earth.  Its his hitting.  If Perryman was an Alien Weapon of Destruction he would be the Great Hammer of the Alien Diety Haumea.

Piggy, I guarantee you if Philbin benched Wallace during the season and/or made him inactive a bunch of people would say he can’t handle a big ego and he’s an idiot for doing it.

Philbin was trying to win, what do you think he should have done with Wallace?

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      I bet they would too
      So what

Philbin should take do what’s best for the team
And if he didn’t, he is failing

What do I think he should have done?
If I assume you are correct that this was an ongoing issue that boiled over time
I think he should have nipped it in the bud early and benched Wallace in favor of hartline ( doesn’t matter how long, a game, a qtr, 2 games, indefinitely)

If you have a problem with a players professionalism
Confront it when you identify it

But I don’t think what people are saying about this being a problem that boiled over is correct
if it is correct, not addressing problems until they boil over is bad management/coaching

I really just think this is about $
      Not a locker room cancer
I feel like I am stuck in Groundhog Day of it’s another lockerroom cancer issue

It’s just a really toxic relationship coming to an end. Let it go.

  3. Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

Piggy, why can’t some of you see Wallace is the problem and nobody else? It’s his actions, he’s not a puppet with a master controlling him. Well maybe Gibson is his master.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Why do I have to pick one problem
      Wallace May be a problem
There can be another problem too

I never said Wallace was a good guy to have on your team
I never wanted to sign him to begin with
      I hate his contract
I just think we are stuck with that contract

      • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

We’re stuck to remnants of the contract, but not the player. If the 2 parties feel it can’t work….it’s done.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

Because it’s about Wallace’s action and nothing else. It’s not Philbin’s fault he has the contract he has and that he’s a douche.

    • D's avatar D says:

      Gibson is his yapping lapdog.

    Jahn

Sorry for filling in the blanks myself, but it’s obvious that you won’t place blame on Philbin. It was far from just the defense the last few games, the offense didn’t get it done either.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

      The entire team was responsible.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I saw the problem as the defense. Sorry that’s what I saw. You think I’m incapable of seeing flaws in Philbin, but I’m not. Conversely I think you are incapable of admitting that he’s doing something right (like with the QB we’ve waited 2 decades for), but maybe I’m wrong about that. It’s bullshit that someone changes a topic 180 degrees from Wallace to the Defense, and you switch it up to Philbin on me.

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

I blame Jimmy Wilson for everything😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  6. Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

I blame Jahn for going full retard today. LOL

  7. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

“The difference between midsession and now is not financial Jahn
That is wishful thinking on your part”

No, it’s recognizing a fact on my part. You’re now offering an alternative solution, benching him instead of cutting him. Your question, which I answered directly was why didn’t they cut him before. Finances.

“Either they backed off discipline him, they didn’t recognize it, or they are exaggerating it now”
Or, about a thousand other possibilities. There’s no denying it. Week 17 was a Stevenson moment for Wallace’s reputation. Teammates made it public record that they felt he’d abandoned them when they needed him most. The rest is discussion fodder and backstory, but for now, it’s clear, this is a good opportunity to part ways without putting the team in a financial bind. If he’d pulled that stunt in week 1 I bet my mortgage they would have benched him. The other stuff is just evidence of “what’s not to like” about him. The defining offense was week 17, the time is now to address it.

  8. TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Did someone mention a powerback? I don’t know if anyone noticed, but there is someone out there, who is available and knows our team, name rhymes with Veggie Mush. If we would have had him on the roster last season, we would have been in the playoffs.

  9. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Just to be clear

I don’t think Wallace is worth what we are paying him
I think it was a horrible contract from the get go

I think the team wants out of that contract and I think they should want out

I want to upgrade our WRs

But I don’t feel the urge to do the annual – he is the bad guy on the team thing

I really think this is a lot more about $ than you guys are giving it credit for
At this point Wallace is what Wallace is
And I don’t think it’s any different than it ever was
I really think the team is trying to make something out of a bad situation
    And they should

But I have a problem with pointing a finger at some one every year – saying they are the problem and at the end of the day giving talent up and saying the team is better

    It’s not better
We use addition by subtraction mucus too often around the dolphins

Wallace can easily move down the depth chart in favor of a guy who is a harder work and better all around WR
Just cutting a guy and eating most of his salary is just bad management IMO

They need to get something for him
And if they don’t just accept that he is what he is and there’s better out there

Seattle overpaid Matt Flynn to basically do nothing for them
    It didn’t really hurt them

Just go out and get a WR
But don’t out yourself in a situation where you have to be desperate for one
That is basically why we overpaid him to begin with – which is the real problem

Everyone has to earn there spots
Wallace, the next guy and so on

    ______________________________
I don’t think you’re incapable of seeing Philbin’s flaws, I just think you’re incapabable of admitting to them in a discussion. 2 different things. I KNOW you see them, but whether you’re willing to admit to them is another issue. This year will tell everything. If we keep treading water, this will be Philbin’s last season. If we make it into the playoffs, he’ll have earned the right to come back.

NICELY DONE, Mr. Piggy!! – – Noticed that Perryman’s #1 hit took place AFTER the runner had already gained about 10 yards and a first down. – – THAT will fit in perfectly with the Dolphins current defensive strategies! — Which gets me back to ANOTHER ISSUE. – – No matter how many solid players the Dolphins sign, those players WILL STILL BE STUCK WITH A COACHING STAFF THAT PRODUCES 7-9 OR 8-8 SEASONS!!! – – Some on this blog are OK with mediocrity. “Give the coaches more time, better players, and everything will be OK,” says the apologists. –Well we tried that with George Wilson AND IT DIDN’T WORK!! —We gave Sparano extra years and it got us an 0-7 start and an eventual firing 2 years too late in my view. –The Ireland apologists GOT their extra couple of years and WE GOT TWO MORE YEARS OF MOSTLY BAD PERSONNEL DECISIONS!! – – This “wait and see” approach sounds fine in principle. But in THE REAL WORLD OF DOLPHINS FOOTBALL, “WAIT AND SEE” has simply meant more shitty seasons!! –Even the greatest head coach in NFL history, Don Shula, fell prey to “another season” when he clearly stood by Tom Olivadotti way too long during some of Marino’s greatest seasons.
    ————
My belief is that Great Coaches bring instant improvement. Vince Lombardi instantly turned around a moribund Green Bay franchise. Chuck Noll ended Pittsburgh’s 39 years of no playoffs and took Pittsburgh to 4 Super Bowl victories. Al Davis resuscitated a dead Raider franchise and turned them into an NFL powerhouse. Bud Grant did the same at Minnesota. NOW, however, if you are to believe Philbin’s defenders, 4 years are NOT enough. Is that REALLY SO??
    ———–
In Don Shula’s FIRST YEAR, Miami improved from 3 wins in ’69 to 10-4 in 1970 and a narrow playoff loss to Oakland. Shula’s 2nd, 3rd and 4th seasons all brought trips to the Super Bowl. –NO, I’m NOT holding Philbin up to the standards of Don Shula. But, apparently, asking for ONE winning season in 4 years is asking for too much according to some in this crowd.–Last year at this time EVERYONE, including Steve Ross, was in the “improve or you’re fired” camp. –Well, NO IMPROVEMENT got Philbin another year, so we know what Ross’s football word is worth, don’t we??
    ———–
As much as I HATE to admit it, all this talk about new players likely is a waste of time, based on Dolphins history. We are in for another season that fails to deliver a SINGLE PLAYOFF VICTORY —-our 15th consecutive season without a playoff win. While some say, “If you fire the staff, we’re in for 3-4 rebuilding seasons that will be even worse than what we’ve got now.” –To that, I say BULLSHIT!! –It’s all about GETTING THE RIGHT GUY!! –IF we’ve hired “The Right Guy,” you’ll see measureable improvement in ONE YEAR and MORE IMPROVEMENT THE SECOND YEAR —something that’s been sadly lacking during the Philbin years. I’m a “SHOW ME” kind of guy. -And all Philbin and Ross have shown me so far is mediocrity. Too bad some are just fine with that.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I was gonna leave it alone, but that’s just another cap filled rant. I respect the hell out of OD, but the comment about “philbin’s defenders would…have us believe…4 years is not enough” is mean to impugn and it’s not accurate. The comment how great coaches turn things around immediately conveniently forgets the beginning of Belichick’s career and the 1-15 SF 49ers..who were my home team at the time and had all kinds of old cranky dudes calling for his head.

  13. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    Chiefs released TE Anthony Fasano.
The move clears $1.959 million in cap space. More importantly for fantasy purposes, it frees up last year’s TE8, Travis Kelce, to go absolutely bonkers in 2015. Going on 31, Fasano was constantly banged up in 2014, and it was reflected by his play. He caught just 25 passes for 226 yards over 15 games, and his run blocking fell off a cliff. A nine-year veteran who’s had a well-rounded game, Fasano will undoubtedly latch on elsewhere, but there’s no guarantee he’ll crack someone’s 53-man roster.

  14. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    Rams released DT Kendall Langford.
The move clears $6 million in cap space. Signed to a four-year, $24 million deal in March 2012, Langford was a 16-game starter in 2012 and 2013, but was benched in favor of Aaron Donald last season. He played just 494 snaps, managing one sack. Still only 29, Langford has experience at defensive end. That versatility and relative youth could earn him some guaranteed money on the open market.

  19. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I always hate the okay with mediocrity line too

I think some people just have different opinions in what it takes to win

And to that end, on this Wallace, I come full circle
I,don’t think you get better by getting rid of talent

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I think that’s too simplistic. By that logic the Raiders should have never gotten rid of Jamarcus Russel and the Skins should have never cut ties with Albert Haynesworth.

But I think we all know it’s not quite that simple.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        Russell is uniquely bust worthy
It doesn’t matter what the raiders did
        They were fucked

Haynesworth is kind of closer to that legal

But Wallace produced on the field
Not as much as I like but he is not in that class

  21. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Titans LT Michael Roos announced his retirement from the NFL.
The 41st pick in the 2005 draft, Roos played in the league ten seasons, starting 148 games and earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2008. He never received many accolades, but Roos was a steady, reliable, above-average blindside protector. Instead of heading to the open market as a free agent, Roos is retiring as a member of the only team he’s ever known. It was doubtful the Titans would have re-signed Roos had he kept playing. 2014 first-round pick Taylor Lewan is now locked in at left tackle. Right tackle remains a need.

He didn’t make us better and I was all for it so no biggie for me.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

It’s not some witchhunt. The dude quite literally pulled himself from a game and had teammates tell reporters that they felt he “abandoned them when he was most needed”.

Marshall was a bad teammate IMHO. Sometimes you get guys like that on your team. Good coaches get rid of them when the opportunity exists. Randy Moss fetched trade bait, but no chance Belichick wouldn’t have cut him. He DID cut Chad Johnson. Does Laveon Bell do what he did this year if the team doesn’t make it clear to him that he shouldn’t be cozying up to the likes of Lagarret Blount? Maybe the Chargers should have never cut Ryan Leaf.

yes it is, i agree totally. it is just as pointless as ones telling those who bitch and complain that they are bad fans and all they want is the fins to fail so they can bitch

and not saying you are one of them, just saying it is useless. i think it is pretty obvious that every single person on here is on here cause they want the fins to win.

  26. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I didn’t want shabby on my team either
And he earned his way out
And the bears may want to get rid of him now for the same reasons

    I’m not crying Over marshal
But out WR core was shit for a year
And then we were desperate and brought in Wallace
And overpaid (zero ably overpaid for Gibson and hartline too)

And now Wallace is public enemy number 1

Do we have to do that whole dance over again?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

      Ask Wallace what’s up?

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Wallace doesn’t quit on his team and we’re not having this discussion. He brought this on himself. I’m a huge homer. I don’t get critical of players for the fun of it. It’s topical. The team is clearly unhappy with him, so the fans are talking about why. It’s not a witchunt. He created this.

  27. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Tim

I think Harvin was out most of the season with the Seahawks when they won the Super bowl

    • Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

Yes, but he helped them win the SB and they traded him mid-season this year because they didn’t think he was a fit. Everyone knows he’s talented.

  28. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Jahn

I get the reasons for not liking marshal and Wallace
I just don’t think cutting Wallace is a good solution

    We need to get better
If they can move on from Wallace in a way that doesn’t open up a hole
    Than I’m okay with it

But cutting him and only savings 2.5m on cap room seems very unlikely to do that

I would like to see us trade him for a pick rounds 2-4
    If we don’t
I just keep him and bring in more talent
That’s the long and short of it

I don’t want to repeat what we did a few years ago
It seems to be taking a step back to me

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

We clearly are at an impasse. I think he’s a PROBLEM in the locker room. You don’t. I don’t understand how you can think that given the indisputable actions of him on week 17, and the tweets about fucking around in team meetings that came afterward, but nonetheless you obviously do.

I think he’s BAD for the team. I don’t care how talented you are, if you’re Jeff George in the locker room, eventually your troublemaking will land you on the waiver wire.

I find it interesting how you never wanted him, but now don’t want to cut him in spite of the obvious problems he’s caused, but Ken wanted him badly, and now wants him gone.

No judgement on that, I just think it’s minorly interesting how the two of you keep landing on opposites sides when it comes to Wallace.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

BTW, my opinion of him in no way shape or form means I wouldn’t like to see us get compensation for him, but when he doesn’t draw any, I won’t be surprised, and if the coaches and the QB think he hurts more then helps, good riddance.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

In fact, if Cleveland was the only offer at a 7th rounder, I’d take a lot of pleasure in seeing that deal get done. LOL…

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

      Hey Pig,
Just do it right this time. Draft the guys who fit and can grow within the scheme. I think you can grab 2WRs in this draft and the offense as a whole can be better. In 2012 the teams main problem is Ireland waited too long to draft a WR. I don’t think they’d make the same mistake again….but we won’t know until draft day.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think Diggs reminds me exactly of Wallace. Not the same exact speed but similar player. Now Dorsett is on whole different level than both Wallace & Diggs. Much more diverse player. Partner him up with Strong or Parker.

    Diggs is like Wallace
But not as fast in terms of straight line speed
And much more willing to be physical
And always keeps his head in the game

    I like diggs a lot

I would love to see him and a big WR on our team

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

Agreed. He has stiff hips and stiff upper body like Wallace also which affects his COD ability, but he seems to be a better effort player than Wallace. I wouldn’t mind Diggs….Id actually take him over Devon Smith who the team has spent a lot of time with.

  32. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

ESPN’s Nick Wagoner reports the “door is open” for free agent Kendall Langford to return to the Rams at a reduced salary, but that he’ll “seek a starting job first.”
Langford was set to make $6 million, far too steep for the Rams after rookie sensation Aaron Donald took Langford’s starting job last season. Langford has experience in both 4-3 and 3-4 schemes. He shouldn’t hurt for suitors, but a starting job isn’t a guarantee.

  33. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    My plan with Wallace would
    Be
To exhaust all efforts to trade him before 3/3
But take no lessthan a 4th

    If there is no takers
    So be it

    But cut Gibson
Correct me if I’m wrong but we would save more cap room by cutting Gibson

I know we would save more by cutting hartline
But I would not cut hartline in this situation
    Bc he is reliable
And in a worse case scenario if Wallace sulks and we have to roll with hartline and Landry
    We aren’t that bad

I would still draft 1-2 wrs one big, one fast

If we keep Wallace, maybe you trade him before trade deadline next year
Teams are willing to give up more when the draft is farther away

I’m not saying plan a future with Wallace
I’m saying get value out of him
And 2.5 is just not enough IMO

  34. D's avatar D says:

Do any of you think i put as much time into scouting players for this team because i love mediocrity? Do you think any of us put the time and effort into adding and contributing to the discussion of this team because we love mediocrity? Some people feel if something has a problem you destroy it and build anew, some look at it and go, not bad foundation just needs some work. Im in the latter group but within reason. 36. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I think trying to “replace” Wallace is missing the mark a little anyway, as our scheme clearly didn’t play to his best strength, and he clearly didn’t want to be bothered becoming the more well rounded X type receiver that this scheme calls for. That said, I’d look to a guy like Parker, or Cooper or White (not all will go before our pick, although I wish White didn’t run so fast in Indy, because I really hoped he’d fall to us), and I’d call that crew upgraded. I don’t normally say this, but all these guys are competent route runners and I believe all will contribute as rookies next season.

    • D's avatar D says:

This rookie class is REALLY impressive from technique standpoint. Usually you have a bunch of athletic freaks, speed demons, just traits that you say “if we can just refine it”…a bunch of them have that, your are not hearing the word raw said about many of them, even down to the ones projected in 2nd and 3rd rounds. This may be the best overall WR class i have seen.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

They are all better than they used to be
Bc colleges are passing more now

This is probably a great time to draft wrs

      • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Totally agreed. I have been of the school of thought for a long time that WR is the hardest spot for rookies to contribute at, but I sincerely believe this class is deeper then Piggy’s samurai class, and that class was the one that started breaking the “rookie WRs can’t contribute” mold.

  37. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    DBolt

    Diggs also accelerates very quickly
And does it with great balance

I don’t think Wallace does that so well

    • D's avatar D says:

Its about acelerating through you cuts not fast cut fast. You get separation when you dont have to pause in that hitch in your route, and Cooper is masterful at it, and as has been said before, a BUNCH of them are pretty good at it too,

  38. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Jahn

I want a guy like Parker, White or strong first and foremost

    But I also want speed
I do think it opens up the field

Those guys are all pretty fast though

I think Wallace does not have a diverse skill set
But some of the speedy guys we mentioned will do fine with underneath passes
Dorsett probably will excel in that area
    Diggs too

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I think you can get both if you draft one in the 1st. I really like Cooper more then Strong though. But you can get your speed guy in Dorsett, JJ Nelson or Chris Conely later on.

Also, I’m starting to feel like WR speed is getting way too overrated. (Always preach 40 times are over rated) in this scheme separation is king, and 8 of 10 times, separation comes from deception, not raw speed. I like to see a guy who is smooth in his route running such that he’s making a cut when the DB isn’t anticipating it. Whether he can outrun the DB or not in a footrace comes into place once a game at most for most WRs.

      • D's avatar D says:

Id rather have Hardy over a pure speed guy. Dorsett, they are right he does run good routes and plays a lot like a slot guy. He isnt typical for your one trick pony speed guys.

    • D's avatar D says:

Parker is better at quick slants, crossing routes and quick outs, he is built for YAC, shaking off a guy and then accelerating to his top speed. White is incredible on post routes, film i saw him on, he sliced through the zones on that route so fast the defenders didnt have a chance to react before he had it and was gone….They compared him a lot to Cordarrell but i think he looks more AJ Green.

  39. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

I know he’s known for speed but Dorsett is tough as hell going over the middle, produces YAC, and will fight for jump balls. I like everything about the kid.

  40. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

That said I still think Perriman might end up being the best WR of this class when alls said and done.

  41. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

DBolt beat me to the lunch on Dorsett
    But here is Diggs

    • D's avatar D says:

You know you and i have been talking up that guy. He fits the mold here well. Id be happy with him if thats who we took in later round.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Gotta be honest, these guys making these highlight reels need to stop trying to be so artsy and high production value. Just show me the fucking plays. I don’t care for the imagery and would rather spend that time watching more game footage.

Just a pet peeve. The intros are getting to me, and the repeats with uber slow motion every other play too.

    —————————————
Only thing that concerns me is he drops a lot of passes. Athletically you might be right, he has a lot of things that stand out, but they brought up how man drops he had last year at the combine and it was a lot.

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

I don’t see a huge issue with drops really. I’ve only noticed the drops when he looks to run before he secures the ball & it gets on him. He has REALLY a strong hands. His explosion after the catch is different than any of the bigger WRs in this draft. His ability is rediculous

  43. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    And here is Cooper

  44. D's avatar D says:

speed and speed alone is purely overrated. Its a thing that some receivers, like Wallace have gotten by on, but now the NFL has gotten smarter and the CB more talented. Lot hard to keep up with a guy when your back-peddling that hits a cut and doesnt lose a step. You have to react, alter your coverage and match his speed, and usually by that time, he is two steps ahead and has the ball in his hands. Its about being really good from a technical perspective with decent physical skills to enhance it.

  45. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

OK – Let’s clear this up. No one here is happy with the performance of our team, but some are more tolerant of it than others. Some stand on the rooftops and scream about it (That’s you Kong, only because you can) and some let it go and look to the future. I think that sums it up pretty well. I scream from my computer, because I’m not a 50 foot ape.

  46. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I don’t think Taevon Austin nor Cordarelle would go first round in this class. Both probably 2nd or 3rd rounders…maybe like they should have been.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      I think tavon would
      But he would slip

      His speed wowed people

I think Hopkins would still be my favorite of this class

      I agree about Patterson
He falls to the 2nd round

      • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Maybe, I was pretty vocal that I thought Tavon was all speed and wouldn’t be a good fit in the NFL because of his size. So far that looks pretty accurate. But people do fall in love with 40 times. Problem with little speed guys is that in the NFL frequently just a bump from the bigger defenders can take them off their feet, rendering their speed less deadly. Also…everyone is fast in an NFL backfield, so you don’t see so many highlights of a guy just running away from a defender.

  47. D's avatar D says:

Love that diggs video. My favorite part is the FSU game and the FSU DB thinks he has an easy pick and Diggs sticks his hand out and one hand pulls it back and the FSU guys is like WTF.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Diggs is very aware of his surroundings

He catches a lot of deflected passes
      It’s weird

    • D's avatar D says:

Yeah the reason i keyed in on him early when i was looking at WR prospect, seriously back before season ended, was because of his return skills. A lot of what makes a good receiver in our system is same skills you need to be a good returner. So id start my looks with guys who also doubled as their team return man and how good they were at that and then started expanding my review of them from there.

The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,

On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.

      Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war. We are your overlords.
On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.
So now you’d better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing.

  53. Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

Mike E, I’m not tolerant of us falling short every year, but with this regime I knew it would go through a transition phase because Philbin and Sparano have totally different philosophies, so you have to give a coach a chance to build his program, especially when he started out with a rookie QB and he himself was a first time HC. It’s not like this regime’s teams have been at the bottom of the league and not competitive.

Changing coaching staffs and even personnel guys has been the one constant in mediocrity since 2005. Each time you make that change, they bring in their own philosophy and players and it takes time to build the program. I believe in allowing a regime at least 4 years and if they don’t have some success (playoffs) during that time you make the change, but switching every 1, 2 or 3 years isn’t a good formula.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

You’re certainly more tolerant than I am!

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I don’t even think “tolerance” matters. To imply someone is “tolerant” of losing implies that NOT being tolerant would change anything.

It’s just different reactions. Whether I throw my tv in the street or take a loss in stride and smile and hug my daughter afterward, has no bearing on that game or the next one. It’s more an indication of self control then anything else. JMHO.

When it comes to discourse on the blog, well, I’m a positive guy. I prefer to spend my time talking about positive stuff than just berating the players and coaches that I root for on Sunday. So yeah, sometimes that wears on me. but I also understand I’ve got to “tolerate” others’ desire to lash out if I want to be here.

When it starts as a conversation about Wallace, gets 180’d to be about the defense, then i find myself defending my position on the HC. That wears on me. Is what it is though, I’m still here.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t think it’s self control either. I just find it necessary to show my displeasure, and say “It’s NOT OK”, and we need to do better. Does it actually accomplish anything? NO, but neither does being positive.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

That sums up me pretty well. I follow sports to enjoy it, not have it frustrate the shit out of me even if it does for a few hours. That also makes winning that much more enjoyable.

Earlier Gigi pointed out the amount of points we allowed down the stretch in 4-5 games and followed it up with but that’s Wallace’s fault? Nobody blamed Wallace for our record or overall performance, it’s a team game, complimentary football, and he absolutely helped us win 8 games. That had nothing to do with him quitting in the Jets game because of selfishness and immaturity. So the topic got turned into something completely different.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Glad I edited the OP. I originally said it was a reflection on maturity level. LOL…

Gonna stick to my guns on this one. Control of anger is absolutely the very definition of self control. Doesn’t take months of blogging and venting to achieve this: “I just find it necessary to show my displeasure, and say “It’s NOT OK”, and we need to do better”.

Still, I acknowledge your right to conduct yourself however you choose. Like I said, I’m still here.

yeah. He’s ok. I wasn’t crazy impressed. Went the wrong way on the screen, but that can be coached. Didn’t turn up to run the wheel route and instead broke it off in the flat. Didn’t face any double coverage, and got handled decently well on single coverage.

Still like his athleticism, and will stay open minded, there’s more film out there. Does anyone know if Georgia ever runs WR option routes? There’s a lot of that in our scheme, so it’d be nice to see if he can read a safety or DB and adjust his route accordingly.

  59. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

In regards to Conley from the 2 games available. Positives: he has a great jab step, can make acrobatic catches, and is a good run blocker.
Negatives: he rounds his routes, gets lost on the field, and he doesn’t play like a 4.35 player as DBs stayed tight with him.

Needs to be coached up in route running and adjusting with his QB on the move.

From what I’ve heard he’s a bright kid and actually does some script writing. I believe he made a StarWars short film that people liked.

    Jahn,
Really? Because people here in minnesota claimed Randy Moss did it almost every game. Lol

There are lots of ways to “quit” without walking off the field and saying you won’t go back out.

And, again, I’m not trying to defend what Wallace did. I didn’t like it either. I just don’t think it’s all that unique. If they think it’s time to get rid of him…that’s fine with me.

Just don’t start bitching next year when we’re wondering where those TDs went because no way does a rookie or anybody currently on this team put up this TD numbers.

    Piggy,
Nope! A Kwik Trip pizza! It was on sale for $5, so I couldn’t resist. I’ll pay for it later.

    Piggy,
When I first saw that pic, I thought the words at the bottom said “College Hummer”. Brought back some great mammories. Lol

    MikeE,
Since TANNY will win us a championship, like, never…..my guess is Philbin will not still be our coach.

  86. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Ok, should we talk about anuses, pickles and recipes some more?

  87. Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

Randy, 10 TDs isn’t unprecedented. I don’t think Wallace is impossible to replace. I don’t even care if the total passing TDs get spread around, this guy with 7, two guys with 6 and one with 5 etc., just execute and do a better job in the red zone. We get there often but stumble for all sorts of reasons.

  88. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
So, if a player takes a play off or a WR doesn’t run his route very hard, or he is supposed to block but doesn’t really try hard…or maybe doesn’t make any effort to block, is that quitting?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

No that’s an issue with drive and ultimately professionalism. Quitting on the play and walking off the field while a rookie RB is being attacked by 3-4 defenders is a disgrace. Landry the rookie WR comes flying in and tries to help and he wasn’t even near the play when it started.

‘I didn’t like it either. I just don’t think it’s all that unique.’

yep. i agree. just like tanny missing the deep pass. not all that unique. why once again the answer to fixing this mediocre team is way more then a qb or def or a quitting wr.

yeah jahn i said mediocre what you going to do about it.

I’ve never met Randy, but he reminds me of Rob Corddry by his online persona😊

  92. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
I agree. 10 TDs isn’t unheard of or anything. My point was more that folks seem to be willing to label Wallace as this or that when the bottom line is he produced….and I do not believe it will be as easy to replace that production as people seem to think. and, Wallace could have had another 4 or 5 TDs if the throws were there. I don’t blame him for getting frustrated because he was playing his ass off to get open, and his QB didn’t get it done. I do think he should’ve handle that frustration better…and I think the team should’ve managed the situation better to help prevent this from ever happening.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

Two different discussions there. I’m not debating Wallace being frustrated. My issue is with that whole quit thing. I can’t stomach that sort of shit. It’s cowardly.

  93. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Dbolt,
I wish like hell I could afford a trip to one of the fests. I’d love to sit around drinking and shooting the shit with you fellas. I think I come off much more cantankerous than I really am. But, who is Rob Cordrry?

  94. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    ffr,
Yep, a mediocre team led by a mediocre qb. Feels good to admit it, doesn’t it? So freeing….

  95. Ken's avatar Ken says:

What’s up FUers? I say fuck Wallace and his quitting ass. You walk off the field because you are upset your team mate scored the TD instead of you. You might as well keep walking out of the facility as far as I am concerned.
