By Dr. Bruce Banner End of football season and not yet start of league year mean Hulk have some time to calm down and relax. Hulk no think about football too much and Hulk no get angry too much. Funny how that works out. But now this coming Tuesday the league starts and that means the start of free agency. This get Hulk starting to think about football. Hulk start to think what free agents might Dolphins sign and what free agents might Dolphins lose? As Hulk begins to think about the various scenarios Hulk start to get sweaty, his chest starts pounding, his head start hurting and Hulk start getting angry thinking about mistakes that team might make. Hulk think of many things that would make him angry. This is what would make Hulk angry in free agency: Signing Ndamukong Suh for crazy big money. It’s not that Hulk doesn’t like Suh, in fact Hulk have great respect for Suh and his style of play. However, Hulk sees to much money to be spent on one player on defense. Hulk see many other needs that may not get addressed if we sign Suh such as contract extension for Ryan Tannehill. Then there is fixing the offensive line and wide receiver. For the same money that we spend to sign Suh we could sign Mike Iupati and Randall Cobb. Hulk think that would make much bigger impact on team than 1 defensive tackle. We would solidify the interior of the offensive line which would mean Tannehill would have more time to throw and Miller would have more open lanes to run. At same time we could add Randall Cobb who is ideally for Dolphins offense. He has speed to get deep but thrives in the short to intermediate passing game. Nearly one half of his 1,200 yards were after the catch. Tannehill thrives in the short to intermediate game as well. If we sign Cobb, then we have 2 wide receivers who play very well in space and can line up in multiple positions including the boundary, the slot or the backfield and at R1P14 one of these 3 wide receivers are likely to be available: Amari Cooper, Kevin White or Devante Parker. All of whom would be excellent boundary receivers. We would fix OL and give Tannehill multiple weapons to work with but if we sign Suh then this is not possible as we will have no money to bring in veteran OG. We will be forced to draft and rely on rookie OL instead. There are other good options for interior OL in free agency other than Iupati. Vladimir Ducasse of the Vikings, Orlando Franklin of Broncos and Jah Reid of Ravens give other options at OG for Dolphins to get immediate help on interior OL. Another option is to sign Steve Wisnewski from Raiders at OC and keep Mike Pouncey at OG. Another thing that would make Hulk angry is if we sign Jared Odrick to big contract extension. Odrick play a lot but not make many tackles or sacks. Also Dolphin run defense really struggled with Odrick playing DT. There is talk of Odrick getting an $8 million dollar per year contract. Hulk no see that and Hulk be very angry if Phins pay Odrick that much. There are other good DT options available that would be cheaper. Dan Williams for instance is very good run stuffing DT and he be cheaper than Odrick. Terrence Knighton may not be cheaper but he is better than Odrick. Vince Woolfork is now on the open market, maybe he like to come back to Miami for a short term contract and take up space in middle of field. Nick Fairley, Suh’s team mate is also free agent and is better than Odrick. There are too many good options at DT to invest that much money in Odrick. Hulk also hear people talk about signing a veteran running back like Frank Gore. This also would make Hulk angry. Again Hulk like Frank Gore but Hulk no not to sign a running back on the wrong side of 30. Hulk thinks Phins have their running back with Lamar Miller. What Phins need is a quality back up running back/short yardage specialist. There are good options in draft including a Hulk favorite in Tyler Varga. Hulk would see no reason to spend cap dollars on a veteran running back when it is a good year for running backs in the draft. Hulk would also be very angry if we no address the secondary in free agency. Right now Phins have 2 quality defensive backs on roster in Grimes and Reshad Jones and there is talk of cutting Jones to make cap space for Suh. Hulk getting angry just thinking about that. Jamar Taylor flashed talent in limit playing time last year. He may or may not be ready to be a full time CB. Louis Delmas was the starting S but he get injured and is now a free agent. We need at least 1 safety and one corner back. The market not great but there are some decent options that should not cost much. One option at CB is Darius Butler. He has proven to be a viable nickel back the last several years in Indianapolis and would not break the cap budget. Byron Maxwell be available at CB but he more expensive and Hulk no think he would be as good away from rest of pro bowl secondary in Seattle. At safety Hulk like Tyvon Branch from Oakland Raiders. I know Hulk like his Uconn guys but Branch has been a quality player who goes under the radar on bad team. Branch has speed to play center field and again not likely to break cap budget. Also Hulk like Antrell Rolle who is also a free agent. He is a proven ball hawk with 9 interceptions over last 2 years. Plus he is known to be a hard worker and good club house influence. Tom Coughlin called him the hardest working player he has ever seen. However he is likely to cost more. Finally, Hulk would be very angry if TE Charles Clay is lost to free agency, especially to Buffalo Bills as it was reported that coach Rex wanted to sign Clay. The imposition of the transition tag now makes it less likely we lose Clay as with transition tag Phins get right to match any offer. However, reports are that Bills still willing to make big offer to Clay. If we lose Clay there are not many good options in either the draft or free agency. The TE class in the draft is one of the worst in recent years. Most of the 40 times of the TEs in this draft make Arthur Lynch look fast. The free agency class is headed by Julius Thomas but he would be expensive and he will also be playing without Peyton Manning, DeMaryius Thomas and Wes Welker. Hulk not sure he worth signing for the kind of money he will demand. Jermaine Gresham is a quality TE but probably not better, or as versatile as Charles Clay. Jordan Cameron on Cleveland is available but again Hulk thinks Charles Clay fits Fins offense better. So Hulk thinks it is important to re-sign Charles Clay or else Hulk be very angry and no one wants that.

Things have changed in the 36 hours since I drafted this but it still expresses my sentiment.
First and oink
Hulk probably really angry today
I mean second
Hulk not understand that Cobb and Iupati no smash Tom Brady
Suh smash cheaters
Suh smash cheaters good
Sorry for cutting into your time New Age, LOL
Ken has breaking news, LOL
The cartoon is funny
Rhymes with Orange. It is usually pretty funny.
What make GetterDone Angry….reading old news!!! 😉
Hulk angry but Hulk have respect for Suh and anybody that smashes QB and stomps QB for that matter.
Suh-perior D-line!
What make Hulk angry is not figuring out how set timer for posting new article.
It’s on the side bar
You can edit the publish date
Then hit schedule
You and a Mike E both need blog 101 class…lol
I finally got it. I didn’t realize I had to hit the schedule button. I thought once I set the time, and hit OK, I was done. OK, I do need a Blog 101 class. lol
Ken
I think Wisniewski could play G for us. We saw what Pouncey is at G, and it wasn’t pretty. I think he needs to go back to C.
You can do that also but its all academic now.
Did he agree to sign somewhere already? I didn’t know.
No I just don’t see the cap space to bring in some one of his caliber right now. Our fixes are likely to come on the cheaper end of FA now.
Ken
Nice work, even if some of it we already know. Hulk will like watching Suh wreck other teams.
Suh a hulk too
But Suh not green
Instead Suh surrounded by green
Ain’t that the truth.
Suh swimming in Green
Suh make green rain
Suh favorite stripper at tootsies named “umbrella”
Ken you forgot to set a category too
I will fix that
Technology make Hulk angry. Er.
Straight up draft, Post Suh, no trades

Thanks
That’s a good one
But I would have had Perryman in the 2nd and ifoooooooo in the 4th
But I guess Collins is the real deal
I want to take Perryman, but in the back of my head, I know Stephone Anthony will be there a round or 2 later, so I take that CB, who I think is a nice pick in the 2nd RD.
Is Prof. Piggy teaching Blog 101 this semester, or is Prof. Herd, or maybe Prof. Lou? 🙂
Herd or twice
I just throw spitballs from the back of the classroom
LOL
Hulk, I do agree about being angry if we lost Clay, especially in the division. I like him too much to hate him.
I will be angry if we lost him but I will be happy for Clay. He is a hard worker and a great professional. If he gets his payday I will be happy for him.
And it is also a real crappy TE market and draft class
Right I certainly wouldn’t begrudge him getting paid. Stay Clay
Mike I don’t think I’d even take a back late, why bother really, get a position that needs depth to be developed.
Gillislee, Williams et al plus they’re a dime a dozen off the street.
But it is such a good year for RBs you can get good quality late.
Williams could be real good, big kid, and he’s pretty fast too. I hear ya though, although it’s hard to count on Gillislee, we hardly know him.
I like Williams a lot but I would still like to add someone. It is such a good year for RBs I think the talent is there to take a late round pick and still get real good quality at the position.
Jarvis Harrison is an interesting prospect. He’s got talent, he just needs the right guy to bring it out. Maybe Benton is that guy.
Hulk needs sleep. I am out. Peace to you all.
Goodnight Hulk, good job, and thanks for reminding me. Sleepy time for me as well.
Part of me says phuck it we have Suh now get Gurley.
Yes I think that a little too or go get White or Cooper or Parker. With that I am out. Peace.
LOL Son, then we could play 70’s era Shula ball and OD will feel young again 😉
Maybe he’d quit bitchin about his seats if we were winning, lol
Goodnight Suh-weet friends! Peace!
Mike great draft up above…but too bad it’ll never come close to being that way.
I’d love to take 2 out of those 7 tho, with WR White & LB Anthony!
Later Mike and Ken
Free agent TE Anthony Fasano will visit the Titans on Tuesday.
Are they still a pro team?
Ken, a paragraph break would be cool. LOL
Hulk break everything but paragraphs.
Goodnight, folks.
Wow Patrick Willis is going to retire. I didn’t see that coming.
Well its tsuhsday… Guess now we just have to tick down until 4pm E to see if we have any surprises.
Twitter detective @CowboysNation notes DeMarco Murray removed all Cowboy mentions from his Twitter profile. Ominous. Watch CJ Spiller there
@JasonLaCanfora: Bills are preparing to make an offer to Miami TE Charles Clay, who is on transition tag. Also hope to sign former Vikes FB Jerome Felton

And dedicated to the fine people of Detroit?
What happened to the paragraph breaks? They were there when the article was first posted why not now?
Happy Suh’s Day everyone. Hulk still angry though.
Ken
You can edit the article and put your paragraphs back in. I would, but I’m not sure where they are.
I tried to read the article but started to go blind and fell of my chair. I was very hurt. LOL
Its being reported (today) that the Bills are preparing to make Clay an offer
but why are they still preparing
Shouldn;t they have made that offer already?
They want that offer to be an offer he can’t refuse, and we can’t match
Is Rex Ryan the new Oinkfather?
Actually I was just informed via twitter that the transition tag prevents anyone from negotiating with him until today
He wasn;t just a UFA
Like Crack, Just Say No Clay!

Rumor is Dolphins will trade Wheeler & Ellerbe for eighth-round picks.
Seems fair.
@AlbertBreer: Hold those Suh jerseys fin fans. Late word trickling in that Suh has had a change of heart & will be a Colt. SHOCKER.
Lol nice
Faker
Uh-oh. There will be a LOT of unhappy Dolphins fans
What a shit storm that would create. Oh brother! LOL
Its not even on his timeline
fake account!
I’m taking it Pig threw a stapler at his client and then went on a search…..LOL
Think I should apologize?
D-Bolt is just trying to raise blood pressure levels . lol
Works better than a morning jog😅
This guy picked in in Abramsons joke and ran with it
I weep for journalism
Of course I wil be wrong if we do acquire something for those guys
But I thought we already cut wheeler, was that wrong?
And I know we won’t get an 8th rounder…lol
It’s a wash between trade and waiver in terms of cap room
Actually I think we get more cap rook by cutting both after 6/1
Piggy
Rexy can’t be the Oinkfather, because there’s no way the Oinkfather would be in Buffalo, unless it was in the witness protection program.

Read the first “paragraph” and realized that the Suh announcement took place between the writing and publishing of Hulk’s rant. LOL “Hulk break everything except paragraphs” LMFAO Who wouldn’t love to be Hulk when a grammar nazi attacks comments written from an iPhone. 🙂
Piggy, “Fox Sports” … apparently this reporter used to work for “Fox and Friends” LOL
so, if only Jake Long could play guard. 🙂
on another note… it will be fun to see Suh running over Incognito this season….
Updating a previous item, Vince Young will not attend the first-ever Veterans Combine on March 22.
Young, now 31 and in need of money, was not invited to the Combine that will allow roughly 100 veterans to work out for all 32 NFL teams. He hasn’t played in the NFL since the failed “Dream Team” Eagles team of 2011.
_________________________
What do you guys think of the Veterans Combine? I got mixed feelings on it.
First of all, I didn’t know it existed. What are they going to do, the same drills they do at the rookie combine?
A pie eating contest and who can eat the most hot wings.
@JamesWalkerNFL: I learned a Twitter lesson today: Don’t hint at a “pleasant surprise” unless it’s a #Dolphins roster move. My bad, Miami tweeps.
LMAO! Good job D-Bolt!
😋
I knew Dbolt was being a fucker, i have Albertbreer on my feed and didnt see that, i kinda think it woulda caught my attention, but way to shake the tree DBolt lol.
Had to have some fun.
LMAO, Kudos to Dbolt !!!!

It didn’t exist before Mike. This is the first Veterans Combine.
Tim Tebow is also going to attend this Veterans Combine…. been working with Brady’s QB coach on the side for 2 years. ugh, here we go again.
Hartline said his ‘only regret was not winning enough and not making the playoffs’

@Dbolt48: @JamesWalkerNFL @SportsCenter Let’s be honest coverage of Miami will be interrupted as soon as it is announced Bellicheat farted…cut to NE
Not so surprising given what is supposed to happen at about 4PM.
Great Job Hulk, and don’t worry about this:
“As Hulk begins to think about the various scenarios Hulk start to get sweaty, his chest starts pounding, his head start hurting and Hulk start getting angry thinking about mistakes that team might make”
That’s not an effect of radiation, it comes with being a Dolphins fan. 🙂
Wow SportsCenter covering Miami all day, Gee, ya don’t say Jimmy DynOmite Walker aka Captain Obvious….lol
gotta make a 5 hr drive to visit brother-in-law at his new business… need to get there so I can have tv on at 3 pm central time today. 🙂 Mark Schlereth (sp?) is not my favorite guy, but I love what he said about Suh this morning:
(paraphrase): adding Suh to an already talented D-line in Miami with Wake and Vernon makes this a dominant D-line. And adding Suh to an already talented defense… any offense playing Miami’s defense is in for a long, hard day… they better bring their lunch pail.
Not worried about the D-Line, still need at least one LB and maybe a CB and S too (depends on how happy we are with what we got).
Miami should take a look at this guy unless his price gets too inflated.
Free agent LB Andrew Gachkar is generating interest from the Vikings, Panthers and Raiders.
A seventh-round pick of the Chargers in 2011, Gachkar has started just eight NFL games. He’s a bit of a cheap sleeper though as a player who can help on special teams, stuff the run and has shown some speed from the inside linebacker position.
“Andre Johnson’s brother has tweeted Andre’s four preferred destinations: the Patriots, Colts, Seahawks, and Packers.”
Looks like he wants a ring…….I would too if I was him.
Johnson also wants a QB!!!: Brady, Rodgers, Luck… would be more likely I think. BUT, Seattle has the opening.
Ken, I mean Hulk, I noticed that when you start to ‘flow’ the Hulk gradually transitions back to Bruce and the conjugated verbs return. 🙂 No Suh puns for Hulk? like Suhlk lol
Good write, especially the accidental timing because it demonstrates the inability to predict what will happen. FA has become the NFL’s soap opera (like season 3 of Walking Dead… more Povich than zombie) 🙂
Rhino
Does your bro-in-law not live near an airport?
Mike E… lol no he doesn’t… he and my father in law bought a LaQuinta in a transitional town between Waco and Dallas… at least I get a free room 🙂
Waco eh? Bring your six guns and spurs
Stanger, agreed on LB. Suh will make his money being disruptive and taking on double teams … that means LB “tackling practice”…. we need LB who are great tacklers. Imagine a Zach Thomas type tackler playing behind this d-line.
A tackler would be great, but with Suh in the middle we might be stressing cover skills a bit more too. Plus have a feeling we’ll be seeing more outside runs……and the speed for coverage should help chase that down too.
Andre Johnson goes to one of his preferred 4 teams and we win the SB. LOL
I can dig that
I suggest many people start looking into Mike Hull of PSU a little more. His instincts are on par with Kendricks if not better. He also to be just as athletic at the combine.
Linebacker U
GDP
Are they going to perform drills at the veteran combine, or just sit around and talk?
They’re going to play bocce ball and drink lemonade.
I think that’s realistic
That would be Suh-per Bowl
Mike Hull posted the following stat line against eventual national champ OSU:
19tkls, 2.5TFLs, 1int. Penn State loss the game 31-24 in double OT.
@flasportsbuzz: Mike Wallace tells ESPN’s Josina Andersen he is “happy” playing for Dolphins. There’s front office support for keeping him but no final word.
That’s big. At least should mean it’s not a done deal that he is on his way outta town.
Andrew Abramson ✔ @AbramsonPBP
#Dolphins WR Mike Wallace might be open to pay cut (if he can earn it back)
_____________________________
Ha, Yesterday I suggested Wallace & Starks do this after reading that Tamba Hali has also.
I’ll believe it when I see it (Wallace).
Incentive bonus is exactly what he needs to shft his money to to prove he wants it, but problem is, he is going to expect them to feed him the ball even more if his money depends on it. To me it plays right into more of the same ole shit.
That’s not a pay cut, that’s a restructure.
Good. I hope Mike does the right thing. Take a pay cut, and let incentives allow you to earn it back. Totally fair.
Was thinking about this yesterday afternoon, going over what kinda fears some are having and i came up with this as a reason not to be overall worried about the Suh signing.
You just have to look at it like this. What does Suh really cost us.
So 19mil is 13.4 if you take out Ellerbe’s 5.6, a player who contributed nothing to last years team. Net loss 0.
It becomes 8.4 if you take out Randy Starks 5mil, replacing starting DT for starting DT, and is a net gain.
Take out Gibsons 3.3mil and its 5.1, and loss of a rotational WR, who contributed very little and will easily be replaced by a rookie draft pick. Net loss 0 even in worst case scenario.
Brian Hartline’s 3.2 mil will bring it to a 1.9mil deficite and this is probably the biggest replacement concern, though i have said before, i believe Matthews has the potential to be AS productive as Hartline was last year, if not more so with an extended role. We also could draft a replacement that likely gives us the production we got from him last year. Net loss, 0.
Phillip Wheeler’s post June 1 designation saved an additional 3mil which puts us at a surplus of 1.1mil. Simply due to the liability he was to us, i cant bring myself to call it a loss, though we do not have a proven guy who can replace him, or we likely would have done it last year. I think he is easily replaced in FA, or draft though, as his play was so bad its hard to imagine worse.
So in the end we have swapped money around from a bunch of guys who cost us the same amount but we got very little from. It was a house cleaning of sorts that ended up netting us the most dominant DT in the league. No way i have looked at this makes me fearful of it cap strangling us, since we were investing that money anyways.
I also feel like given the number of guys we have paid moderate amounts of money to in the past, its an obvious sign of buying a lot of junk and cluttering the team with average players. This has yielded average results.
I have this problem with my kids sometimes, I take them to the store and tell them tey have X number of dollars to spend and they run around, and if i let the, they would buy 30 items of pure junk that is going to tear up or be thrown away in a week, When i have them focus on spending on one item they really want, they wind up getting something they enjoy more, and is more useful to them. That’s kinda where im living on this deal, same money spent a lot better.
Good point, I was thinking the same type of thing. I’d rather have Suh than a lot of other overpaid players who don’t make a big impact.
You’re only addressing this year. What about the rest of his contract? It will be hard to keep some players, and to sign new ones with his salary.
Still have to replace Hartline, Starks and Wheeler. They all played significant snaps last year. Suh can’t play those positions, but the point has merit that given their production you can replace them with low cost players. Of course then the argument comes full circle to you weaken other positions because you can’t afford quality duue to the Suh contract.
Scratch Starks, that actually IS the same position, lol.
D — you remind me of my wife telling me how much money she saved cause she found a “great sale.” She can say she saved blank amount cause it was 30% off, but that doesn’t mean we couldn’t have put the 70% on the credit card bill to other purposes.
But the one I do agree completely with is taking Starks’ money out of Suh’s amount…….that’s his real cost versus what we would have done otherwise.
you could have used the money you save by cutting all those players to address multiple positions instead of only one.
This is a nice way to look at it, but I have 2 problems with it (respectfully, I assure you):
1. You already believed the Suhning was a good thing for Miami prior to writing this, so you had a bias going in.
2. You have not pointed out any cons from your perspective you may have discovered while assembling this, to give the whole thing weight of an actual consideration. There has to be something, no?
D-Bolt
I would hope we take a LB earlier than the 5th-7th RD. I don’t mind Hull, but I’d be a little concerned if he’s our starter at MLB. I’d like a little competition.
Unless of course he’s the next Zach Thomas
He has a similar ability to find the ball like ZT. He is similar to Sean Kee of the Cowboys, but with better instincts. Remember he was playing on a Defense severely limited due to scholarship reductions.

You dont think that a guy who bitches about getting more throws and being pissy about not getting a TD when another guy did is going to be happier and more productive when every time he doesn’t get it, its one step further away from money he feels he deserves?
I don’t know exactly what happened last year, and either do you. I want him on our team because I like the way he played 15/16th’s of the season. If whatever happened is something the team can get past, that’s all that counts.
You like the bitching all season about what does and doesnt get thrown to him?
You like the reportsthat he didnt pay attention in WR meetings.
You like the fact he doesnt show up for valuable offseason meetings, though voluntary would have been very helpful to his chemistry and timing with Tanny?
Mike E, I was studying the LB corp of the Lions, and they did well behind Suh, especially DeAndre Levy 151 tackles in 2014, he’s was a former 3rd rd pick….and their guy in the middle Tahir Whitehead a 5th round pick did well, plus they had a couple of UDFA’s playing the other side due to injury….and we all know how well the Lions D was.
Of course their secondary was stout and did well too.

Mike those same players were signed through the next few years, except starks who was done after this one. Either way we replace them with equivalent money guys, and they still cost the same against cap, and we likely get the same average players. It wouldnt make it any harder to do. When it comes to keep other players, we will still have to make the same hard decisions and if they are worth keeping by then we will have other players falling off the books that will create the space needed for them.
Right, but now we need to replace them. If we want to try and do that in FA, it’s going to be difficult with our cap situation once Suh is signed.
Who do we need to replace?….
Signing Suh makes drafting well even more important. Sometimes signing multiple FAs at decent money doesn’t make much of an impact.
To me this is what it all really boils down to. We have to start drafting quality players.
It’s really just overpaying guys for little return
Sometimes you find a gem
But I prefer we try to go after 1 big fish, than 3 smaller fish
Some of the other guys are good pros but are they impact guys
I think mike Iupati helps our running game tremendously
But his impact is not nearly as great as Suh on our defense
And Cobb? I think he fits the offense and he performs well with is if he is here
But does he take us to the next level, I doubt it
He is nowhere near elite status in terms of WRs
Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP 5m5 minutes ago
So the #Browns are supposedly in the running for Darrelle Revis? I guess everyone is lining up to play with Brian Hartline.

LOL
LOL
Hull has good instincts
He just doesn’t have the athleticism of Kendrick or Perryman
If we find ourselves going into day 3 and we don’t have that ILB he might be a good pick
My first impression was the LB class was thin after the first few guys
But I think there are a few guys there like Hull and Hicks who can help us
I was looking at Kwon Alenxander from LSU last night
He would be an OLB in the pros
He is athletic and aggressive
Also has good instincts
But he is slightly wreckless and takes himself out of the plays sometimes
Still a quality LB
Maybe a 3rd or 4th rounder
I think Hickey likes SEC guys
He tested out more athletic than Perryman & on par with Kendricks.
Dbolt, is Sean Kee the son of Low Kee? LOL
It’s probably turning lemons into lemonaide, but I am glad that Wallace’s meltdown happened when it did.
The Jets game didn’t matter — perhaps he would have been playing if we hadn’t been eliminated.
It was the last game — so the controversy couldn’t spill over into the next ones.
And since it was the season ender — it gave him the whole off-season to consider what a pathetic move it was (he didn’t get the chance to redeem himself with a big game after).
I subscribe to that.
I think he should take a pay cut, and im glad to see he feels he should. I just dont like the idea that all next year, by patterns he showed this year, all we will hear is the y need to throw the ball to me more. This time there will be the little extra of, “because i need X number of catches for my bonuses, they are just trying to keep me from getting my bonuses.”
Asking some one to take a pay cut isn’t easy
Who wants to take a pay cut?
I think I resigned to the idea that it was a bad contract and the worst is over
I would love the extra cap room
But I don’t think it’s Wallace’s obligation to do that

We have to find replacements for Ellerbe and Wheeler. You can’t just pint to the bad signings that were cut, because I can also point to the good signings we can’t make because we’re capstrung now. That’s just this year, it’s going to get worse once we pay Tannehill and Suh’s big money starts. It may also cause us to lose Clay, we’ll see what happens there. It’s not as simple as saying the guys he’s replacing that were cut almost equal his salary, they should have, and would have been cut regardless.
exactly. well said.
Ellerbe didnt play last year….replacing an IR guy, easy enough. Wheeler….again, he was a liability so replacing a guy like that isnt hard. You are right about Clay, we might lose him, but technically since he is on the books for 7 right now, and we have over a mil banked after cutting Ellerbe and Starks….we can match 8mil if that’s what it takes. If not i guess you guys get your wish and we target Walford. Its workable man and its not hard to look past these roadblocks unless you want to see them.
The Suh signing basically gives us that guy our defense needs for an identity purpose and gives us a base to build off of. The talk of drafting better is independent but yes, we do need to. I think also this gives a young player a little latitude for stepping in right away and acclimating to the game. Taking the pressure off of a new LB to make up for out lack of DT play and handle his own responsibilities will be a huge burden off and likely help that pick be a success.
My biggest concern, and this is still quite in our wheelhouse to improve on, is the OG spot, but considering there is still fat to trim, i think we can easily make that happen. We will see sometime before the end of the FA period but i think we sign a good OG guy, and likely draft someone pretty early.

WR Mike Wallace to me on whether he is open to a pay cut or restructuring his deal if asked: “Like I said I am willing to help out the team, but at the same time I’m not about to do nothing crazy either. I’ll definitely help the team out, but it has to be reasonable—what I feel is reasonable.”
On what he feels is reasonable:
“I don’t know. I have to see what exactly what my agent and the team is talking about and whatever I feel is reasonable. It’s not set like this is what it is. If we come to an agreement, I’m with it. Like I said, I’m not about to do something too crazy. I still have a family that comes first.”

No I think she’s african american.
Translation, ill take a cut, for the team, if its best for me….
LOL @ Kong and Hartline
Kong, lol…at least it seems Wallace wants to stay, sees this team is trying to go all out to WIN NOW!
I hope Clay feels the same way. 🙂
It’s possible. I think it’s more a case of he knows he’s stuck here and he’s trying to seem like less of a dick but has no intention of taking one penny less. That’s my take, lol, doesn’t mean it’s right though.

Joe Philbin said Dolphins were 8-8 cause they couldn’t stop the run. Steve Ross says I’ll give you Ndamukong Suh….NOW WIN.

Asking some one to take a pay cut isn’t easy
Who wants to take a pay cut?
I think I resigned to the idea that it was a bad contract and the worst is over
I would love the extra cap room
But I don’t think it’s Wallace’s obligation to do that
————————————–
Def not his obligation and i am fine with him not taking one. Im also fine with him being cut. Team has to do what it needs to, whether it be fore the health of the locker room, for cap space, or to keep talent. It is what it is. Mike Wallace has to do whats good for him, but that might mean giving a little to gain a lot. You put yourself in a hot seat, you still are valuable cut as cap savings or traded. You want to stay, give a little to get what ya want, t me its up to him, but you can tell from his comments, he isnt really behind it and also seems like he knows the market for him right now woudnt pay him what he is already getting.
The real issue is not his salary
It’s salary cap space
And we aren’t getting a huge benefit by cutting him
After seeing marshal traded for a 5th I’m. It confident in a return
****
The other thing
If Wallace takes a payout does that undo what he did last season?
I doubt it
He probably ends up ring less motivated

I’m happy we’re signing Suh, but we will have to get most of our talent via the draft. That’s not a problem, as long as we draft well.
We were in that position already. Nothing is different.
If we cut all those players, and don’t sign Suh, we’d have about $18-20M of cap space. We could have made a run for an OG, and then still had plenty left over. You’re making it seem like we’re getting Suh for free. It’s very different. If you can’t realize the ramifications of paying one player salaries of $18-22M per year, then I can’t discuss this further. Sure, you always want to build thru the draft, but now we’ll have to almost exclusively.
Exactly
People keep suggesting now we have to get LBs
We had to get LBs anyway
Ellerbee barely players last season
And wheeler,….
LB, WR, OG, DT, CB, S and maybe RB were our needs before Suh signing
Now our needs are the same, except DT
Mostly it’s a questioning of upgrading on what we have already
But signing Suh has little to do with that
We can probably pick up a vet to help alleviate the risk at one of hose other positions
That won’t happen in the first week of free agency bc it has to come in the cheap
I guess the big thing is whether we open a hole at TE or not
Mike E, I don’t look at replacing Ellerbe and Wheeler as a big challenge.
I don’t either, I just showed up the page where the Lions no name LB’s did well behind him.
Misi, Jenkins, & Tripp should all be happy that they should get plenty of good angles to attack.
That’s not what I meant. They would have been cut anyway, and should have been cut anyway. We’d have that extra money to sign other players, and now we might lose Clay. Let’s see what happens with our O-line, as we let Franklin, Iupati and others go without trying. Hopefully we already have the horses on our roster, because once we sign Suh, it’s either the draft or we’re screwed.

Good news. 🙂
Yeah, cause no other team will offer a 2nd round pick for an unknown player coming off IR.
Which is why, I was saying yesterday that the Browns may have screwed up with ‘just’ a 2nd round tender on Gipson. I hope Miami looks at making that move for the 24yo pro bowl FS.
Shelby was on IR?
oops, I get him confused with Francis a lot. But point remains the same, Shelby hasn’t proven to be a huge impact player yet.
It does show Miami’s confidence in him which is a good thing going forward.
@Nublar7: Putting a tender on Derrick Shelby was a no-brainer. Good move Miami……..Aslo, Omar got it wrong(again).
Shelby wasn’t on IR
Nope. He had an in season suspension for a night club incident….then he was yelling about needing some treatment because he fuck Ed a stripper “raw-dog”
LOL
I don’t recall Shelby getting injured
But I doubt anyone gives a 2nd for him
I would take it though
I didn’t think Shelby would be back, but he is a solid backup/rotation player on the DL.
and still trending up.
Rumor of Johnson & Gore to Indy.
Is Edgerrin James gonna be there too? 😉
Mike, why you keep saying ‘once’ we sign Suh it’s over and all we’ll have is the draft?
Don’t you think Hickey & Aponte knows their numbers game better than us?
They know other FA’s and the price points that they’ll be getting and who to move here or restructure here to continue to be players in FA if they feel the need.
Right now the draft shouldn’t even be in their minds cause no one can predict how that will go yet.
Even with Suh, I’m sure Hickey & Tannebaum have a FA board and strategy of who they want to make runs at. Suh was obviously the first one on their board besides resigning or tendering some of our current players from last year.
We’ll still be able to sign Clay if we want, as well as a FA OG too….IMO.
OK, don’t you think Hickey, Philbin, Coyle and Lazor know more than we do and know what they’re doing, and yet there we are, 8-8 again . . . . It’s a decision that they made. They think Suh is the key. We’ll see. I know he’ll make the defense better, maybe a lot better, but once again, once we pay Tannehill and Suh, it will make high priced FA’s impossible to get.
Kendricks at MLB behind Suh. The rest will take care of itself. Stay Clay, and PLEASE for the love of all that is fermented, don’t even think about cutting Jones.
Mike E, loved that draft, but VERY concerned about the lack of OL until 4th round and then only a 7th rounder after that. I think we need to go OL in 3rd or go OL in 4th/5th. Also, I know a lot of folks here don’t really want to pencil in Taylor or Davis opposite Grimes, but I believe at some point you drafted ’em, you gotta play ’em. With Suh and Kendricks manning the middle, the secondary will be much improved. So I replace your 2nd round pick with Kendricks.
I agree
Albeit I like Kendricks a lot
I like Perryman a little better
But no matter who were are talking about
It makes sense to get one of those guys behind Suh
We can be a team with an elite player that some times plays great defense
Or we can be a dominant defense
And a player like Kendricks or Perryman behind Suh might get us there
It’s worth a high pick
I never thought we’d target the higher priced guards. Not sure who we will target, but I could see us signing a guy who has some starting experience. There will be a lot of competition at G this year.
The 49ers officially announced Patrick Willis’ retirement Tuesday.
Willis is walking away at age 30 on his own terms, a rarity in professional sports. A source told CSN Bay Area that, “Patrick is not having fun. He doesn’t want to play football.” So it appears that the best linebacker of his generation is done, leaving behind five first-team All-Pro appearances and borderline Hall of Fame credentials. Willis was the game’s best cover linebacker and a premier run-stuffer, racking up 930 tackles, 16 forced fumbles, 20.5 sacks and 53 pass breakups in his eight seasons. His retirement nets the 49ers $7.4M in cap space.
