WHAT WOULD MAKE HULK ANGRY THE FREE AGENCY PRIMER

incredible-hulk By Dr. Bruce Banner End of football season and not yet start of league year mean Hulk have some time to calm down and relax. Hulk no think about football too much and Hulk no get angry too much. Funny how that works out. But now this coming Tuesday the league starts and that means the start of free agency. This get Hulk starting to think about football. Hulk start to think what free agents might Dolphins sign and what free agents might Dolphins lose? As Hulk begins to think about the various scenarios Hulk start to get sweaty, his chest starts pounding, his head start hurting and Hulk start getting angry thinking about mistakes that team might make. Hulk think of many things that would make him angry. This is what would make Hulk angry in free agency: Signing Ndamukong Suh for crazy big money. It’s not that Hulk doesn’t like Suh, in fact Hulk have great respect for Suh and his style of play. However, Hulk sees to much money to be spent on one player on defense. Hulk see many other needs that may not get addressed if we sign Suh such as contract extension for Ryan Tannehill. Then there is fixing the offensive line and wide receiver. For the same money that we spend to sign Suh we could sign Mike Iupati and Randall Cobb. Hulk think that would make much bigger impact on team than 1 defensive tackle. We would solidify the interior of the offensive line which would mean Tannehill would have more time to throw and Miller would have more open lanes to run. At same time we could add Randall Cobb who is ideally for Dolphins offense. He has speed to get deep but thrives in the short to intermediate passing game. Nearly one half of his 1,200 yards were after the catch. Tannehill thrives in the short to intermediate game as well. If we sign Cobb, then we have 2 wide receivers who play very well in space and can line up in multiple positions including the boundary, the slot or the backfield and at R1P14 one of these 3 wide receivers are likely to be available: Amari Cooper, Kevin White or Devante Parker. All of whom would be excellent boundary receivers. We would fix OL and give Tannehill multiple weapons to work with but if we sign Suh then this is not possible as we will have no money to bring in veteran OG. We will be forced to draft and rely on rookie OL instead. There are other good options for interior OL in free agency other than Iupati. Vladimir Ducasse of the Vikings, Orlando Franklin of Broncos and Jah Reid of Ravens give other options at OG for Dolphins to get immediate help on interior OL. Another option is to sign Steve Wisnewski from Raiders at OC and keep Mike Pouncey at OG. Another thing that would make Hulk angry is if we sign Jared Odrick to big contract extension. Odrick play a lot but not make many tackles or sacks. Also Dolphin run defense really struggled with Odrick playing DT. There is talk of Odrick getting an $8 million dollar per year contract. Hulk no see that and Hulk be very angry if Phins pay Odrick that much. There are other good DT options available that would be cheaper. Dan Williams for instance is very good run stuffing DT and he be cheaper than Odrick. Terrence Knighton may not be cheaper but he is better than Odrick. Vince Woolfork is now on the open market, maybe he like to come back to Miami for a short term contract and take up space in middle of field. Nick Fairley, Suh’s team mate is also free agent and is better than Odrick. There are too many good options at DT to invest that much money in Odrick. Hulk also hear people talk about signing a veteran running back like Frank Gore. This also would make Hulk angry. Again Hulk like Frank Gore but Hulk no not to sign a running back on the wrong side of 30. Hulk thinks Phins have their running back with Lamar Miller. What Phins need is a quality back up running back/short yardage specialist. There are good options in draft including a Hulk favorite in Tyler Varga. Hulk would see no reason to spend cap dollars on a veteran running back when it is a good year for running backs in the draft. Hulk would also be very angry if we no address the secondary in free agency. Right now Phins have 2 quality defensive backs on roster in Grimes and Reshad Jones and there is talk of cutting Jones to make cap space for Suh. Hulk getting angry just thinking about that. Jamar Taylor flashed talent in limit playing time last year. He may or may not be ready to be a full time CB. Louis Delmas was the starting S but he get injured and is now a free agent. We need at least 1 safety and one corner back. The market not great but there are some decent options that should not cost much. One option at CB is Darius Butler. He has proven to be a viable nickel back the last several years in Indianapolis and would not break the cap budget. Byron Maxwell be available at CB but he more expensive and Hulk no think he would be as good away from rest of pro bowl secondary in Seattle. At safety Hulk like Tyvon Branch from Oakland Raiders. I know Hulk like his Uconn guys but Branch has been a quality player who goes under the radar on bad team. Branch has speed to play center field and again not likely to break cap budget. Also Hulk like Antrell Rolle who is also a free agent. He is a proven ball hawk with 9 interceptions over last 2 years. Plus he is known to be a hard worker and good club house influence. Tom Coughlin called him the hardest working player he has ever seen. However he is likely to cost more. Finally, Hulk would be very angry if TE Charles Clay is lost to free agency, especially to Buffalo Bills as it was reported that coach Rex wanted to sign Clay. The imposition of the transition tag now makes it less likely we lose Clay as with transition tag Phins get right to match any offer. However, reports are that Bills still willing to make big offer to Clay. If we lose Clay there are not many good options in either the draft or free agency. The TE class in the draft is one of the worst in recent years. Most of the 40 times of the TEs in this draft make Arthur Lynch look fast. The free agency class is headed by Julius Thomas but he would be expensive and he will also be playing without Peyton Manning, DeMaryius Thomas and Wes Welker. Hulk not sure he worth signing for the kind of money he will demand. Jermaine Gresham is a quality TE but probably not better, or as versatile as Charles Clay. Jordan Cameron on Cleveland is available but again Hulk thinks Charles Clay fits Fins offense better. So Hulk thinks it is important to re-sign Charles Clay or else Hulk be very angry and no one wants that. content

Right now we have 1 starting CB, 1 starting S, maybe 2 starting LB’s. Possibly no starting G’s, maybe 1 WR (depending on if Wallace stays or is cut), no starting TE if Clay leaves. That’s a lot of holes to fill, and difficult to fill adquately in one draft.

I’ve said since day one that this year would be the biggest test for Hickey who had a fine line to walk to make this all work.
I’d love to be a fly on the wall hearing him and Tannebaum debating Suh and these other moves.

Keep in mind Ndamukong Suh committed on to joining Miami without having ever talked to Joe Philbin. Same thing happened to Mike Wallace.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

No formal commitment could have been made without clearly breaking league rules on the 3 day negotiation period. This oversight underlines how speculative the entire statement is, and how little factual information Omar actually relies on when he hits that editorial trail.

I’m fairly certain lots of players joined the Dolphins without talking to Philbin first. Is his point they are both high priced free agents? Both black? Won’t work out because of this?

I also think Collins is an immediate starter, and a guy who can be a good player for us for years, especially after Grinmes leaves. I think we need a quality CB, I really do.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Here’s the thing. We have a HIGH quality CB. Suh is a demonstration about the belief in strength up the middle. Jones is on the back end, Suh is on the front end. Kendricks (or your boy, Bortles would have been great!) at MLB completes the corp of the defense. It’s a gamble either way, but we don’t have probowl talent at any of the LB spots right now, and we do have pro-bowl talent at at least one of the CB spots. JMO of course.

Zierlein tweeted the following Tuesday morning: “Dre on owners private jet headed to Indy. He called Gore & they agreed both to Indy. Philly wanted both.” So now it appears the Eagles didn’t only lose out on Frank Gore at the alter, but they also lost a suitable veteran replacement for Jeremy Maclin. Meanwhile, Johnson would be a great fit with Andrew Luck as a sure-handed replacement for Reggie Wayne.

I’m not a big NCAA fan per se, but it will be dominating sports news for a few weeks and IMO it makes it more interesting if you have some teams to root for. My thought is a $5 contribution, set it up on one of the sites like yahoo, winner take all. If there’s not enough interest to make it interesting and anyone wants to get in on a good pool, there is one I’ve been in for years, hosted by my former boss. She lives in Michigan now, but it’s all done online. It’s a good pool to be in, lots of entries, the winner the past few years has gotten over $1000, and I’m thinking closer to 1500. Let me know. 🏀😀🏀

You might be right. I’m not sure how much better Kendricks is than Anthony, or how much better Collins is than say Senquez Golson or Lorenzo Doss, guys who should be available later. It’s always a guessing game, as to which way you go.

Borland would have been great for us, but maybe your guy Kendricks is just as good. Going to be very interesting ho we approach this draft. Extremely interesting.

    Jahn,
I would never take Heeney & try to project him as a starter, but I sure as hell would use a 7th round pick on him as a core special teams player with development upside.

Piggy, what the Phins are doing in FA is usually the bad formula for success. They didn’t have the money to spend to get to 89% like the Jags did, yet we are making the biggest splash in FA with this Suh signing.
I like the player, he’s ability is awesome, but the move for a cap strapped team with many holes is risky to say the least.
    Hope it ‘Pays’ off! 😉

      I disagree
Sure you can sign a bunch of guys instead of just one
But then you just have a bunch of new faces and names

      It happens every year
In 2013 we filled all our hold didn’t we?

We will never get over the hump by approaching free agency that way

This move for Suh is a potentially a difference maker

  26. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

FA OG ranks could be getting thinner & thinner for the Phins.

XTRA 910 Arizona’s Mike Jurecki reports the Cardinals are interested in free agent G/C A.Q. Shipley.
The Cardinals are dead-set on shoring up the interior of their offensive line. Shipley can play any spot between the tackles and could even compete for the starting center job if Arizona plans to move on from veteran Lyle Sendlein.

If we cut all those players, and don’t sign Suh, we’d have about $18-20M of cap space. We could have made a run for an OG, and then still had plenty left over. You’re making it seem like we’re getting Suh for free. It’s very different. If you can’t realize the ramifications of paying one player salaries of $18-22M per year, then I can’t discuss this further. Sure, you always want to build thru the draft, but now we’ll have to almost exclusively.

    THE ITALIAN WEDDING TEST

I was a very happy man.

My wonderful girlfriend and I had been dating for over a year.
So we decided to get married.

There was only one little thing bothering me.

It was her beautiful younger sister, Sofia.

My prospective sister-in-law was twenty-two, wore very tight miniskirts, and generally was Bra-less.

She would regularly bend down when she was near me.
I always got more than a nice view.

It had to be deliberate. She never did it around anyone else.

One day she called me and asked me to come over.
‘To check my Sister’s wedding- invitations’ she said.

She was alone when I arrived.
She whispered to me that she had feelings and desires for me.
    She couldn’t overcome them anymore.

She told me that she wanted me just once before I got married.

She said “Before you commit your life to my sister”.
Well, I was in total shock, and I couldn’t say a word
She said, “I’m going upstairs to my bedroom” she said.
“if you want one last wild fling, just come up and have me”.

I was stunned and frozen in shock as I watched her go up the stairs.

I stood there for a moment.
Then turned and made a bee-line straight to the front door.
I opened the door, and headed straight towards my car.

Lord And behold, my entire future family was standing outside, all clapping!

With tears in his eyes, my father-in-law hugged me.
He said, ‘Paulie, we are very happy that you have passed our little test.

We couldn’t ask for a better man for our daughter.
Welcome to the family my son..’

And the moral of this story is:

Always keep your condoms in your car.

You may be right about the eventual W-L record, but Suh at least has established pass rushers around him and another inside guy who can beat his guys 1 on 1 (Mitchell). The Giants with a nice signing of Shane Vereen. Their offense is going to be very good if they like us, solidify their OL.

    —————————————
Yeah that would lessen the sugar hit and probably have about the same taste. If it needed more smokiness it could be mixed with water and have high heat added to reduce it back down and get some extra caramelizing.

Any of you have Moe’s there. Pretty much like Chipolte, different themed restaurant.

  76. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Mike E,
Saw your concerns regarding other parts of the roster but for 1) Dion Sims is a starter :P, and 2) Misi may have had mixed results as a 1st time MLB, but he is an established starting OLB so if the team goes and drafts a true MLB early, then Misi can kick back out to the outside or whatever and Jenkins can man the other side.

  77. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Wyo, that’s an awesome draft except I think Gurley goes higher than 47 😦

  78. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I hope we get the oline solidified. That’s my main concern going forward this off season.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

They have been grooming Billy Turner for a season to be an OG
so there might be less holes than expected
I think we need 1 OG and a little depth
      the depth is easy
the starting claiber OG is a little harder

  79. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    D

We have Moe’s here in Jersey. Pretty good. Never ate in Chipotle but we have those too. My kids love Chipotle. We don’t have Qdoba though, I’ve never heard of it.

  80. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

So what’s your favorite at Chipolte, Qdobas or this Moe’s place?
I like tacos crunchy or soft, any of the meats at different times, pico, lettuce, cheese, sour cream and Cholula hot sauce.

    • D's avatar D says:

Chipolte is probably the best, i really like their rice, and the food seems lighter, where as Moe’s if kinda heavy. Cant be their Moe Monday, though, cost wise. 6 buck burrito that’s as big as a donkey’s cock…..

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Went to this place in Red Bank called Surf Taco this past weekend with some friends, they have another in Point Pleasant. It was decent , probably on par, maybe a little better than all of the above.

  81. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    D,
    Yes.
Been to a few Moe’s (Can’t stand when they yell “Welcome to Moe’s” upon entering).
In terms of fast casual national type mexican chains, i’ve been to Chipotle, Qdoba, Baja Fresh, & Moe’s.

    • D's avatar D says:

They are all pretty similar, with only slight variations between the menus. Chipolte probably edges out the others though if i had to choose one.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Baja Fresh was around for a short period of time and I liked it a lot. They had more options and quality food. It didn’t last though.

  82. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

So D enter Moe’s and says I’ll have the donkey’s cock and a large drink. LOL

  83. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don;t understand why college kids love Chipolt so much
    is it addictive

I feel like if I eat it two days in a row I will pee cilantro

  84. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    I like cilantro too

but did you know some people have a reaction to it and it tastes like metal to them

I once took a girl on a first date to this mexican restuarant. She said she likes Mexican food, and it was a nice place

she tells me while we are there that she can’t eat cilantro

and I’m like – WTF there is nothing on this menu without cilantro

There’s one in the Freehold Mall if you want to try Qdoba :/. I ate at that one a few times while shopping there.
The ones I went to were the ones 15-20 minutes from where I worked at in NJ …one in the Short Hills Mall and the other in downtown Westfield.

  87. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I actually did know about the metal tasting cilantro. My son told me about that. That’s pretty odd.

Upon seeing a transgender woman in the locker room, Cournier went to the gym’s front desk to complain, explaining, “I wanted to know why there was a man in the women’s locker room. He looked like a man, and that’s what stopped me in my tracks.” Cournier was told by the front desk representative about Planet Fitness’ “no-judgment” policy, which includes the use of bathrooms and locker rooms by individuals based on “their sincere, self-reported gender identity.”
