I Love My Mother-in-law

by son of a son of a shula

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNlhZQOfC48

I’ve known my mother in law for what will be 30 years this year, thirty years. I’ve never had any issues with her we get along fine and she professes to love me – BUT SHE MAKES ME INSANE.

You see my wife and I went over there last Saturday so that I could move a recliner from the upstairs to the downstairs because my father in law had hurt his back and needed the chair downstairs so he could rest comfortably. So knowing I had to go over there I had to prepare myself. We go to the Ale House and I ordered my first beer, I said make it big gesturing with my hands to make it about a foot tall. That’s a good start. Next come the wings – hot. Next another mammoth beer followed by one more for good measure. See where this going.

On the way gurgling starts, a little pressure as well and there I am having to poop. Thinking in my head that there’s no way I can “go” over there. Ain’t gonna happen. Talk it down Son you can make it home, come on you can do this. Well no such luck. I HAD to go. The bathroom is kind of right off the living room just around a corner heading to a bedroom.

So I move the chair and everyone seemed pre-occupied so I slip away to the bathroom to take care of biz. It was fine and you’ll be glad to know it went well. Hell there was even Lysol in there (they must have been expecting me). I finish, I spray like crazy and go back to the living room. My wife and I had been out shopping getting her clothes for my daughters upcoming wedding next month. As she goes to try something on my MIL actually said, “did he use Lysol? I can smell it a little”. Yes I felt very comfortable- NOT.

Kim is trying on an outfit and while she is gone my MIL proceeds to tell me that ever since she was young that she never smelled. I’m glass faced staring at the TV and my FIL is silent and I can see him out of the corner of my eye giving her the kill sign. In my mind I’m flabbergasted, who says this stuff to people. She continued and I heard all about her stomach issues.  So there you go she effectively told me her shit don’t stink but mine does.

Well I got to thinking of how wonderful it is to have Suh on our team. Here’s a guy who doesn’t take shit from anyone. Think about it – teams won’t be able to impose their will on our D, we have the ultimate enforcer. Games where we have a slim lead and teams think they can do what the Packers did to us won’t happen anymore. Suh won’t let them. Like his own Lions did to us, Suh would have sacked Stafford.

We don’t necessarily need that enforcer on offense what we need on offense is to be a machine. Imagine a close game, back and forth, it’s getting late and we have a 2 point lead and the ball. Miller running and getting chunks of yards because Amari Cooper has sliced and diced the opposition like a surgeon. Out routes, slants, deep middle they can’t cover him. Cameron Jordon feasts on single coverage while Jarvis Landry owns the middle of the field. You can’t bring the Safety up and risk Stills catching one deep to go down 9 you just have to try to contain Miller and the run game.

We need the high end receiver that does it all. Not a one trick pony not a guy decent enough to start but a guy who defenses just can’t find an answer to. A guy who’s shit don’t stink.

Trade up and get Amari Cooper and let’s go be a playoff team.

Cooper

They live pretty far from us and it’s a long trip home so I said, excuse me right before we left to go to the bathroom again. This time – NO Lysol. I love my mother in law.

MIKE—here’s a explanation of our angie dickenson mystery last night concerning you putting milk in the cabinet and cereal in the refrig..
Parmalat milk doesn’t have to be refrigerated before use and you probably saw many commercials so your brain got mixed up from the commercials. I can work on Tim’s mystery now.

    OK Tim.

Here’s a attempt to understand what really happened of Tim’s Angie Dickenson mystery last night.
We know that the place was locked from the inside and somehow things were placed away when Tim returned from the back. The brain is a wonderful thing. When I had my brain stem stroke I had to learn all over how to do things. I was taught by taking each step in sequence to do the desired task. A example would be getting out the bed takes 12 steps. These steps are learned in the brain and after doing it many times a habit occurs and some steps one does without thinking about it. The brain stores this sequence of steps in some memory spot when the task arises then it recalls the steps subconsciously. One still thinks about some steps.

Tim probably was thinking about putting the stuff away before going to the back and he was preoccupied thinking about going to the back and the brain didn’t register him doing the task of putting the stuff away. Don’t get mad Tim but sometimes the brain is slow to register things, sometimes not at all. They told me when I was recovering from stroke that my brain was slow and it was because the brain is occupied going through many steps. It improved with time since I didn’t have to remember all the steps to complete a task. It’s possible your brain subconsciously did the task on automatic pilot since you it many times before thus everything was put away. Here’s another possible explanation many popular intoxicating illicit drugs also produce unwanted side effects.

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/robertglatter/2015/04/04/flakka-the-new-drug-you-need-to-know-about/

TIM—-Is it possible that the drugs we did in our youth are just now showing side effects?

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

The steps To your recovery sound very similar to what I had to go through after electrocution And the brain damage caused by being dead for 20 minutes. I had to learn how to do everything all over again. I could read a word but I could not string sentences together. Then I can string a sentence together In writing but not a paragraph. I couldn’t do multiple math equations Like 5 + 6 – 3 Because my brain would lose track. I couldn’t drive. Heck I can hardly stand being in a car because my brain had to process everything Every bit of moving matter was trying to be tracked and you would drive me crazy Your brain decides after a while what to pay attention to and what not to

    Trypod,

The Mets pitching is SOLID. They moved the fences in this season, and the bats were working well in spring training. If that continues they could be in good position to challege for a wild card spot in September.

I am almost sure no one on ESPN will take that approach to explain the benefit of trading up
but then again everytime I hear Teddy brischi speak – I hear fart noises

    One thing:

    Trade up for Amari Cooper???

No no – that is worng

    Trade up for Kevin White!!

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

We’ve talked about this in the past.. growing up in Miami, all you heard was how everything was better in New York, including their sports teams. Of course, they could never quite answer the question “if everything is so good in New York, what the hell are you doing here?” South Florida is basically the sixth borough. It wasa really nice place at one time, but it never really evolved on its own- it was forced to become what it is because of influences not native to it.
plus, mets rhymes with jets and nets and nothing good can come from that.

  23. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

  26. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

LOL @ Try – Maybe even overinflated, like his ego

  27. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I love Kevin White’s potential in this offense, but I feel that Amari Cooper is a better fit for this offense, and Tannehill too. White is better at catching the deep ball, but Cooper is no slouch either. Tannehill has trouble with the deep ball (let’s not pretend he doesn’t), so I don’t think that a supreme deep ball receiver is a primary need.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think Kevin Whiote is excellent at the mid range stuff
      the slants
      the screens
      and especially in the redzone
      his size really helps him

Yes, he can stretch the field
But I actually think he might be strong thean cooper at the intermediate stuff
and cooper, albeit slower, may be better st staretching the field

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

White is great at RAC too. He’s a physical guy that will fight to break away.

  31. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

    Piggy,
I know that he is a very good receiver; I didn’t mean to make it sound like he was a one-trick pony. My point was that his deep ball ability is putting him over the top as far as he and Cooper. It will all hinge on what Oakland does (we’ve tradded up with them before, gulp). My guess is whomever they take, we may make a run at the other reciever. That said, I’m fine with either on the team.

  32. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’ve lived in NYC for about 18 years
and I lived in FL for the first 22 years of my life
So FLA for the first 18

    NYC has great energy
but the weather sucks for a large portion of the year
    the apartments are tiny
the cost of living is ridiculous
the level of competitive in terms of career success can wear on you
The day to day grind can be difficult
and NYC is sometimes just dirty

But its still kind of an amazing place
The food is better (except the Cuban food)
    the arts are amazing
you never run out of things to do – just money…lol
So Fla has hot women, so does NYC – its kind of a draw. NYC has a little more diversity

NYC is just really fast paced and you can get whatever you want here
But I miss So Fla a lot

I don;t know though, I think at the end of the day I’m jealous of our West Coasters
the West Coast is pretty amazing

If I had my way, I would live in a lot of different places at different times of the year

  41. TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

My whole “hatred thing” is really not about New York, or the Northeast, or anything else like that. It has always been about about south Florida never getting to organically develop an identity, because it has always been at the mercy of external forces- northeasterners in the 60s, 70s and 80s because of the real estate boom, which caused the native population to get pushed out due to artificially inflated prices- the emptying of Cuba’s jails in the late 70s-early eighties which caused a spike in crime not seen in the U.S. before, and other external forces like the drug trade… It was a beautiful place at one time, but now it’s either a place only for the wealthy or the poor- there is no middle class. I realize a lot of this is generalities, but my point is it is not a natural place, but something else.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I could understand that, but what is NY if not one giant melting pot of many nationalities, 1000’s of different ancestries, that all get mixed together. I’m not really sure there is a real NY identity actually, but more of the NYers who go FLA in the winter, which is not necessarily an adequate or true representation of what NY is.

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I hear you, you are not wrong- but there are differences I’d like to expound upon.. except I’m gonna go walk on the beach with my wife.

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I want to go on record as saying no one people from one area are better or worse than another. People from the south will also tell you to go fuck yourself. And my opinions are just that- opinions. And they are based on direct experiences from 72 to 92, and what I have been able to surmise from relatives and friends who still live there. I have no desire to live there ever again, but I fully accept that others may find it a great place to live. I liked Louisville when I first moved there but over the last 5 or so years, it has worn on me, too. I’m ready for the next adventure…

    • It’s nice to see another perspective of South Florida and I agree with you 100%. However, I now live in Central Valley in Cali and these people are the NICEST people very chill. I cannot speak for L.A. or San Francisco as I have not been there yet but I presume they are a lot like So. Fla. or NYC. I totally love where I am now but do miss home, but not all the homeless people, drug addicts, and the nasty attitude that many in South Florida have.

    Try,
Even Broward-West Palm Beach is very different than Miami-Dade County where the population is hispanic heavy. More of the NE retirees or transplants are in the Broward-West Palm Beach areas relative to Miami-Dade County. Having said that, you look at the immigration patterns of Miami and you have sets of nationals coming in at different times (Cubans in the 60s/early 80s/mid 90s due to communist government; Nicaraguans in the mid 80s during communist government; Colombians in 90s due to guerrilla tensions among other things; Argentines in the 90s following economic collapse; Brazilians for similar issues as Argentines, etc.). And of course, those fleeing those countries usually are the more well off so their attitudes come with em in terms of social class structure (where they once stood relative to where they have to start again). I’m generalizing quite a bit but some of these things are present within each community and within South America you have those who think their country is better than others lol.

    • You left out the huge Haitian community and Jamaicans as well. South Florida is just a melting pot of so many different cultures I guess the only other similar cities would be New York & L.A.

Son, the end of your article is BUNK!
We both think highly of Perriman. As I said twice yesterday, to me Perriman is White & Cooper 2.0.

Yes he’s a little more raw, needs some more refinement in his route running, but he is a physical beast, that can make the big play and get the Big YAC with the best of them.

Perriman will be one of the Top WR’s in the game in 2-3yrs, so why waste picks trading up???
We need those picks for a LB, OL, DB, TE, RB.

Looks like pouncey is close to a multi year extension. Can’t post the link for some reason.

  66. D's avatar D says:

Cooper creates separation better than any of the WR’s. Hands down best combination or route running, acceleration out of breaks, with good (not great) speed and size. He is best overall receiver prospect.

White probably for deep route systems is better because if you look at his deep routes, in particular deep post route, he is better all others there, still he does not fit all systems best, but he would be a receiver that if you didnt have an established system in place *cough* Oakland… you could build your offense around routes that maximize his potnetial while working to round out the rest of his game. I have said this many times,

Parker is better for intermediate routs, particular crossing routes across LB and/or shallow safety zones. He also is built more solid and likely be more durable in an offense that needed him for RZ targets and lots of quick crossing routes. I believe he is ideal for our system but might not be as attractive to others.

Perriman i see more like White, more raw and wouldn’t be out of the box as successful, but has potential to develop past White witht he right coaching.

Because of these things i would put them in ordr for our team, Cooper, Parker, White, Perriman. Again before you guys get panties in a bunch, this is the way i see it from the perspective of matching for our team, not from the talent level of the player. Just like last year, to me Beckham was best fit for us, but Watkins was hands down the better talent, and given the choice to choose either i would have chosen Beckham.

Tim, yes we only have 6 picks, so ya wanna trade away even more?
That was my point. We have lots of other needs that we won’t even be able to address with 6, so lets trade up for one guy and lose more picks? I rather trade down if anything. I think there is a good chance to trade down from #14 and still get a Perriman or Strong, DGB, & a LB like Kendricks, McKinney, Perryman.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think we’re going to get much impact from four of them – 4, 5, 5 and 6. That’s developmental range and maybe one guys turns out to be a gem.

I’m not saying we should trade up, but we could trade up. We could also trade down or stay put. I was just discussing different options.

This team is trying to take the next step. Think of all the mid/late round and UDFA young players we already have on our team. We need immediate impact. We’re not going to add stars at all those positions in this draft. If we stay put I think we should focus on WR, OL, LB and DB. And even with that probably only two tops will make an immediate impact.

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Fair enough, I’m just discussing different options too. I still rather stay put or trade down unless the guy we trade up for is heads & tails better than anyone else in his class…I just don’t see that in Cooper or White over a Perriman, etc.

  70. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We’re locking up Pouncey long term and hopefully getting Albert back who’s rehab is going well. Then we have James at RT and hopefully Thomas and Turner progress at guard. The OL could be on its way to being solidified. I do think we could use some more depth and competition though.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Definitely. We really need to get those guard spots solidified.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

You can’t rely on thomas or turner to solidify the guard spots. We need 2 starter types for those spots.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well I think the team disagrees. They will most definitely be given every opportunity to win those jobs. Thomas is reaching the end in his developmental stage entering his 3rd season. This is when he has to seize it. Turner is a year behind but he was hurt all season and didn’t get much opportunity until the last game. But he has excellent upside.

  71. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Cool tool for trading draft picks. FYI, to trade up to say #5 to get Cooper or White, our 1st, 2nd and 4th wouldn’t be enough. We’d still be shy 104 points. The only way we can pull this off would be to add a player(s) or future picks.

Again, you only make a trade like that if it’s a very weal class at a position or player you want.
White & Cooper are not gonna be all that much better than Perriman, Parker, Strong, or DGB…IMHO.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      Albert 6-5 310

We need depth if anything on the OL. What if Albert can’t go or suffers a set back, what if James gets hurt or has a 2nd year sophomore slump so to speak.
I’m worried about depth at OT & of course we need to make sure we settle our OG spots once and for all as well.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We signed Jason Fox for tackle depth. If any team loses their starting tackles they have problems. It’s a really hard position to have great depth because it’s hard enough to find good starters.

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Fox hasn’t shown to be capable of filling a OT role as of yet. Maybe he will in year 2 of Benton’s tutelage.

  76. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Phins had Texas Southern CB Tray Walker in for a visit. He’s 6’2 180+. Could be a late round or UDFA selection.

  77. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

GD, Fox had his ups and downs like the rest of the OL. He’s the Lions former 4th round pick and he’s in his 5th season. You need guys like this with experience and solid talent. He’s a pure tackle so he’ll get a lot of work this year especially if Albert is not ready at the start of TC.

  78. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

rgs, you have to reply on the development of young players. That’s why you draft them. It will likely be no different this year if we drafted OL unless we pick from the cream of the crop. They’ll likely need time to develop.

    Tim,

The points don’t have to add up exactly if the two teams want to do a deal. For example, in the ever popular Dion Jordan selection, the Raiders # 3 pick was worth 2200, while our #12 and #42 picks were only worth 1680 combined.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

True, but it’s what most teams use. The Raiders do their own thing. LOL

They apparently really wanted a 2nd because they didn’t have one and they wanted CB D. J. Hayden, but not at #3. So it’s not an exact science, but it gives you a good idea of what ballpark you need to be in.

      • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

  85. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

UCF WR Breshad Perriman had an official visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Pro Football Talk.
With Perriman’s stock on the rise, he could be a target for WR-needy teams in the first round. It’s possible that Perriman could be off the board by the time Pittsburgh picks. The Steelers –who own the No.22 overall pick– already have a stable of capable pass catchers, with Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant,Markus Wheaton, and recently signed Darrius Heyward-Bey. The UCF prospect does offer a nice combination of size and speed, but with the recent retirement Troy Polamalu, there could be more pressing needs in their secondary.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You never know, we might have our sights on Perrimen at #14 and don’t care what the experts say about that being too high for him. He gives you both size and speed. But I don’t see his 40 time speed on the field. He’s fast but he doesn’t look 4.2 to me.

  86. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    tim,
well the team is wrong again. They have overestimated the talent we have at the o-line the last 2 years. 2 years ago the oline was a mess. Last year when albert went down the o-line was a mess again and even with albert it wasn’t anything to write home about.

The team needs to realize that our backups are garbage. IF they think turner and thomas can be starters in this league, without an adequate backup plan, then they get what they deserve when they all get fired at the end of year.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We’ll see. You have to believe in development. Thomas didn’t play a lot of LG last year, he played more RG and RT. They have him at LG at the moment. None of us know enough about him and Turner at guard at the moment, not enough body of work. They could be really good.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I don’t think so. Young players develop. It’s what they do. You HAVE to count on players that you’ve never seen produce before every single year, and in every single NFL city.

The Fins led the NFL in Yards per Carry last season. That OL with the young guys, and with our 2 best Offensive lineman either injured or playing out of position, isn’t that big of a project, and those two young guys aren’t writeoffs.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Sims, maybe Lynch and the backs need to get better in pass pro too. That can help a lot. It’s not just the OL. Tanny speeding up his game will help too.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Agreed Tim, and Pass Pro just takes more time. If our OL wasn’t so good at run blocking last year I wouldn’t have a lot of faith, but I saw pass blocking improvement too last year, and it’s only going to get better when we finally have a group stay healthy for most of the season.

This is my official proclamation. I told you Allen was the best WR in that draft (he went in the 3rd round) I told you Beckham was the best WR in that draft (he was the 3rd WR off the board), so I’m not just frontrunning when I do this. Kevin White will prove to be the best (and I think by far, although he may take a couple of years to really hit his stride) WR in the 2015 draft. Mark my words. I don’t do predictions generally, but I’m feeling my mojo a little bit in the WR category the last few years.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think White is going to be very good. I think Cooper will be too. He reminds me of us both liking Allen as the most NFL ready. Cooper can line up everywhere and I like his over the middle toughness and the speed on the perimeter as well. Both guys will be very good pros if not great.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I get that about Cooper too. I went with White this year though because he has the most reggie wayne/Anquan Boldin/Andre Johnson like mental makeup of the bunch. He’s the anti-diva. His NFL QB will be begging him to take a break because their arms will be so sore.

    Tim,

I feel the same way about Perriman as you do, although I don’t doubt the veracity of his pro-day 40 times..there were too many watches on him…but in football speed, I don’t see the same thing, and he’s pretty raw. It’s hard to project a player developing route running skills, and route-running is the reason why every WR that has produced as a rookie in the last 2 years has produced, while route running was the reason every rookie who didn’t produce in the last 2 years didn’t produce.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Agreed and that’s what our guys have to figure out. Route running is very important in our offense. Of course it is for all teams but our 3 and 4 WR schemes rely on precise routes. It’s more important than size and speed. It would be great to find a guy who has it all.

    ———————————
Not just route running but acceleration through the breaks in the route. This part is probably most crucial, though really cant be compared separately from the good route running. Our plays are throwing into tight spaces a lot, so a guy who can make his break while accelerating is going to get separation with out having to hit his top speed to do so, Its WAY more important for them to be able to do this than to have to let a play develop for them to gain separation using pure speed. I think Jahn and i are saying same thing, which is odd because i cant see who the footage of White showing he can do this better than Cooper or Parker. Probably not worth arguing over anyways…not like if we were able to get any of the three it wouldn’t be a very good thing for our team.

Well, that is a double edge sword, if he does that, then you can’t complain about lack of the deep ball attempts.
The OL needs to do it’s job in pass pro regardless of what Tanny is doing or what the play call is on a passing play, he has 3-4 progressions, so Block for him OL.

Hardy is another guy like that, just more like Landry than Stills.

Too much in the way of talent at WR, deep in this draft to think trading up for a WR will be likely, I cant think of a position we would feel the need to trade up for outside of WR either.
