Here we go! only about 16 hours (maybe less, maybe more) until we pick!

Well at least Son selected Tyler Fucking Varga!

So, what’s new? Anything interesting going on today?

  5. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I was listening to Mike and Mike on the way into work and Adan Schefter was on. He said he has spoken to multiple teams that said they wouldn’t be surprised if La’el Collins went undrafted.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Beer, Teach. Hope you like Corona, as I am into my summer beer mode now.

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

Wow. Sounds like his agent isn’t going to be to successful trying to spin this. If the league is that concerned, then it has to be bad.

      • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

DBOLT: AS I’ve said before, I don’t drink no Commie beer!!! (Yes, I know, it’s made in Pennsylvania. But, according to Glen Beck, it’s INSPIRED by progressives from the keystone state. So it MUST be a Commie beer!! –YOU follow that?

      • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

LOL, I’ll drink Yuengling once in a while, but tend to stick to my ice and light beers. Believe it or not I’m a big fan of Key light and Key Ice.

This draft fell very nicely for me. Shocked Miller’s rankings shifted like they did this late, but I won’t complain:

  7. TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Teams telling Schefter they will not be drafting Collins because of situation. Also saying he expects to hear about a trade w/eagles and browns- Bradford for pick, obviously about getting ammo to go after Mariota.

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

Might the Dolphins take a flier on Collins in round 4 or 5??

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think he is worth a flier a little earlier than that

        either a team;s board completely
or he drops from a top 15 pick to a day 2 pick

but I think rounds 4 and 5 is too much

  8. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

SOMEWHERE IN THE FIRST TWO ROUNDS WE MUST TAKE the meanest, nastiest, most physical offensive lineman available and feed him raw meet (NO PORK) before training camp opens!! – – This roster, as now constituted, can NOT protect Tanny nor can it open enough holes for Miller, Gurley man, or any other running back not named Jim Brown in his prime. With Albert questionable for the month of September, it it IMPERATIVE that we draft at least TWO quality offensive linemen tonight!! THAT is Do-Hickey’s #1 priority!!
    ———-
It’s in the low 60’s here in Tampa Bay this morning, heading up to about 78. Great weather for the Bucs to make YET ANOTHER POOR DRAFT CHOICE IN ROUND ONE! Famous Jameis Winston is the pick. And the Tampa police already have an open cell waiting for him. – – TALK to you guyz and galz after work.

  9. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

    OD,
In regards to a late round flyer on Collins, it comes down to how serious this situation is. You have his agent telling the media he’s not a suspect, but then you have Schefter saying there’s a good chance he goes Undrafted. It sounds more serious than originally believed, but I guess we will see as it plays out.

  10. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

first of all: NO trade UP scenarios…(I’m tired of reading these speculations… we don’t have the picks to do that)
    1. Gurley RB
    2. Perryman LB
    4. Poutasi G/T
    5. Lippet WR (I’m out of ideas at this point. Not having a third makes me think Piggy is right about trade BACK … but here it is anyway)
    6. air pump (we will use it as trade bait with NE)
    7. case of sunblock (in case the canopy is not completed in time for the season)

  11. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think that Schefter is wrong. It’s not just Collins agent saying he’s not a suspect, the police said that. He’ll be our pick at #14, and everything goes back to normal. he’ll be cleared before the draft.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I think this is wishful/hopeful thinking, Mike. Teams are tired of being burned, and it will cause teams to pause- at least the less reckless ones.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

He has the look of the Kaepersniffer in his eyes
You can;t talk logic with Mike on Collins now….lol

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Apologies- I should have asked you if it was hopeful thinking as opposed to stating it. I have no clue as to what will happen. I can speak for myself (as can you), and I would be very leery of drafting this guy, particularly with a high pick. Later rounds I may be more open to it.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      wishful thinking

a few months from now there will be an indictment and by the end of 2016 there will be a criminal trial

He may not have any involvement at all
Pouncey didn;t have any involvement with Aaron Hernandez and yet the fact that the police insisted and speaking with him was a cloud hanging over a franchise

  12. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yuengling black and tan is good

  13. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Woohoo
    Its draft day!
Welcome Alvin Bud Dupree to the Dolphins

    ….maybe

  14. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m sure Collins won’t really be the pick. In Collins place, I say the Dolphins take Todd Gurley

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think we should take Collins with our 6th RD pick. Talk about a gamble that could pay off!

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        The thing is
If you don;t want the headache of s player in that situation
you don;t want it no matter what the cost

I’m not saying he is off everyone;s board

but if I were a GM who did not completely remove him from my board I probably wait until the 2nd round to snag him. A GM won’t take too much heat for that

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I am very open to Gurley- and I am in the group that says drafting running backs in the first is wasting a pick. And this is (supposedly) a bumper crop of quality rb’s.

  15. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It starts at 8PM tonight, right?

  16. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Try

I’m just playing obviously. If La’el isn’t completely cleared today (eg. He’s NOT the father, and he has an iron clad alibi), he probably will be drafted at some point, but most likely a late RD pick or he’ll go undrafted as Schefter mentioned.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Well, you can never be sure when reading a text what the intention of the author is, so I just wanted to make sure I reset the tone of my response.

  17. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Mike the Police said “as of now” Collins is not a suspect. Having represented Police Departments that is legal speak for saying we don’t have enough to name you as a suspect at this moment so we don’t want to do anything that will created liability but we think you are guilty as sin.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m not as I would go as far as to say they think he is guilty

but its definately not out of the question that they do and have not named him as a suspect

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

He is clearly in the realm of a person of interest. He had a romantic interest with the victim and that is always the starting point in a homicide investigation. The fact that they have not cleared him and that they want a face to face sit down is far more telling than any public statement they have made.

  18. Ken's avatar Ken says:

It is significant that the Police have not said they have cleared Collins, that he is without qualification not a suspect. It is also significant that they feel the need for a face to face sit down with him. All very bad signs.

  19. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Hulk – My client is INNOCENT dammit! I’ll haul your green ass into court myself if you slander him one more time! lol

  20. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That sucks for Collins. I hope he wasn’t responsible though.

  21. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

So the Hulk and Mike are in bold, Piggy is underlined and Son is just Son.

What are you guys trying to tell us about yourselves?

  22. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I only like Ken when he’s the Hulk. You can keep his Bruce Banner punyness. lol

  23. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

If La’el really is innocent, and has nothing to do with the murder whatsoever, it’s just a colossal clusterfuck for him. If he does go undrafted, and then he’s picked up by a team as an UDFA, and he’s cleared, some team is going to get one hungry, angry mofo of an OL, that’s for sure.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

It would be real interesting if no one drafted him and then after the draft he got the all clear. He might end up getting more money than he would have in the first round. But my guess is some team would take a flyer on him. Even If cleared he’d probably end up with a third day contract.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

True. No state tax in Florida. LOL

  24. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    10 hours to the draft

    Pants Off!!!

  25. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Do the fucking idiot students in NJ realize that protesting and blocking traffic effects innocent people who have nothing to do with shooting unarmed black men? Of course not they’re too fucking stupid. I would love to see a drone spray them with pink paint that smells like shit.

  26. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I don’t get why La’el wouldn’t be drafted unless some no more.

“”We’re looking to get in touch with Mr. Collins to question him about the (shooting). Again we’re not pursuing him as a suspect, but we know he had some type of relationship with Mills. As part of the investigation, we would like to sit down with him, and ask him who may be responsible for this.”

That not his agent or lawyer, the Baton Rouge Police. And if he is the father of the child……not like that hasn’t happened before.

As the first round commences tonight it is discovered that La’El Collins is innocent of any involvement of his wife’s murder as Aaaron Hernandez steps forward to admit he did it.. With the 33rd pick of the 2015 draft the NE Patriots select La’El Collins … Aaron Hernandez is transferred to Solitary Confinement at the request of NFL/Robert Kraft

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Of course it’s sarcasm, but we always think they’ll pickup our players and turn them into pro bowlers or that the league will give them gifts. We need to knock them down to a point where that stuff doesn’t matter anymore. Capiche! LOL

I capiche. See my post below for the answer to doing that. 😉

Be careful on Gregory as yesterday, I think Rappaport, said he was dropping really bad & it’s not really due to the failed drug test, but rather something mentally. 1st thing that popped in my head was Demetrius Underwood.

  33. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

This got lost on the other page, but it’s one of the more informative posts I’ve made in a couple of weeks, so I’m going to go ahead and repost it.

I don’t know if the hand mashing over Gurley’s injury is because people aren’t reading what’s out there on him, or because they don’t realize his injury and it’s repair was simpler and cleaner than APs and he’s several years younger than AP was at the time with far less mileage on his legs.

There’s always a risk taking a guy coming off of surgery, but if you could go back and get AP (without the off-field baggage) the season after his ACL, you’d draft him 1st overall. Ladanian Tomlinson and other football people call him the best prospect SINCE AP, and I think that’s the kind of player that puts us over the top to become a contender. Our offense will be geared for the long haul and tooled to hurt teams in several ways. Our defense will be geared toward owning the LOS and destroying QBs.

Sounds pretty good. In the spirit of “swing for the fences” that GDP has espoused all offseason, I say if Gurley’s still on the board ( I think there’s a 50% chance or more he’s gone tbh) take him and get ready to see a Fins team that doesn’t fold in December (and beyond) but rather, one that comes into it’s own.

This article is chock full of factual information on a guy who could become the next Miami Dolphin, so I suggest those who haven’t been following Gurley much since he’s hurt and they took him off their boards…use it to learn about him. I had some revelations myself. Leg extensions and Single legged squats? Same weight (heavy!) on both legs!
    http://mmqb.si.com/2015/04/29/nfl-draft-todd-gurley-recovery-acl/

Instagram video of him sprinting on a treadmill…can you tell which leg is injured (if you didn’t already know..)? I sure can’t!

  34. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

AP was also already a proven NFL player, not a rookie entering the league off of knee surgery. Someone will draft him but I’m not sure I want him to be our pick.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Older doesn’t make you better at recovering from injuries, it makes you slower at it. More mileage doesn’t make you faster at recovering, it makes you slower. You ignore the factual information that his surgery and injury was far simpler and cleaner too.

I’m convinced you won’t read that article because you closed your mind, but you made a post yesterday that reminds me that we all pass judgments every year on players and are frequently wrong.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Jahn, let’s not turn this into something it’s not. I’m not a fan of drafting RBs early especially with our offense and a guy coming off of surgery. That’s not close minded, it’s how I feel. I’d rather add another position in the 1st.

That said if we do draft Gurley you know I’ll root for him.

  35. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Anyway, I’m out. Tim’s gonna be doubting Thomas until we draft him, and then he’ll fall in line. 😛

Pretty profound statement by a very cool dude. I honestly would love to have him on our team despite not having a strong need at DE. More kids should think about this and maybe they would keep their noses clean and push themselves to be great. Very well deserved for this kid.

  39. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

“Police told the Baton Rouge Advocate newspaper that investigators believe, from a preliminary investigation, that Mills opened her door to someone who wanted to use her car and was shot multiple times after she refused.”

How do they know someone wanted to use her car and she refused?

  40. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I guess they can analyze the distance from the shooter
where she was, whether she was moved
the position of the car door
and then kind of put together a story from there

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Oh opened her car door, I was thinking her house or apt. door.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        Yeah
I guess we don;t know if she was carjacked by some stranger or something else more dubious

But I doubt they insist on talking to Collins in person if it was a random carjacking
I’m guessing they think she was killed by some one she knows

  41. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The Great Blue North Draft Report has us taking Gurley at #14 and Shaq Thompson at #47.

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

      3Justin Hardy, WRRound 4, 15th pick

Piggy, Collins apparently has an alibi.

  44. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don;t see how that i an alibi
He easily could have paid some one to kill his GF

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      Well that’s different.

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

      Rae Carruth

    • D's avatar D says:

He has an alibi for him being in the area when the murder happened, that doesnt preclude him from involvement. They are trying to root out his involvement right now, there is no way they pull him back for this if they felt confident he had nothing to do with it. They could have done questioning remotely if they wanted to, they could have had him give up a paternity test remotely, nothing but having him near them while they came to a conclusion says anything but some degree of concern he was involved.

  45. D's avatar D says:

    Matt miller had this

    1Kevin Johnson, CBRound 1, 14th pick
    2Shaq Thompson, LBRound 2, 15th pick
    3Justin Hardy, WRRound 4, 15th pick
    4Ben Koyack, TERound 5, 13th pick
    5Cameron Artis-Payne, RB
    —————————————————
Im not a fan of a Cb in round one, but id be just as happy with Johnson as Waynes.

Im not a fan of Shaq Thompson, but if our intention is to use him in a S/LB hybrid role, similar to what Tim has suggested in the past, id be ok with it.

Hardy i love as a player so pretty happy with that pick.

Koyack i dont love but he is a solid TE prospect, but would be like 3 of the same type guys in Lynch, Sims and Koyack,

Artis-Payne at that round is a good pick.

Overall i could live with this draft but i really dont see from any of the invites, or meetings at different events that the Phins have ever shown particular interest in any of these guys other than Johnson.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah Thompson as a nickel specialist and STs guy as a 2nd rd pick would be okay, not as a 1st rd pick. Maybe in time he could become a starting WOLB.

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

Absolutely hate the Shaq Thompson pick, but I’m ok with it outside of that. Love that he had us taking Antonio Brown, um oops, I mean Hardy.

  46. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think he has an airtight alibi, but there is always the possibility he had something to do with the murder, paid someone to do it.

  47. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

BTW — it very could well be that La’el had a child and rushed back because of that. His former girlfriend died but the child was born alive. That is a reason to drop everything. Even if the NFL pundits look at it only from a draft perspective, which means the criminal part. And he could have just said to the cops, “yeah I’m coming back….will talk to you when I get there.”

    • D's avatar D says:

No, it would have been reported as such, that would have been posted everywhere because his lawyers would have made sureof that. This is something deeper.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        Yeah
No question to police are asking to speak/question with him

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Good point on how his lawyer and agent would have spun it. But just saying there is another possibility here…….and that also includes talking to the cops and hoping to get it resolved before 8PM tonight.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think its pretty clear that he is going back to speak with the police

And he probably does not want to be int he green room for the Brady Quinn closeups while he drops like an anvil

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The report said he left to go meet with the police.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

How many times have reports been wrong? And as it is he could have been doing both.

Imagine if your child was born to a dead mother.

#BREAKING – BRPD says they’ll talk to La’el Collins for murder investigation after #NFLDraft. http://www.wbrz.com/news/brpd-to-meet-with-la-el-collins-after-draft

  50. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m not a fan of Shaq Thompson either. He may never have a true position. He can’t really add weight because he’s not that fast to begin with. He’s probably too small to play LB, and no one has any idea how he’ll be at S. I wouldn’t touch him.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I like him int he 2nd round
I think he will be an excellent LB in coverage

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

As a 1st round pick neither am I but as a 2nd I do like him because I think he’ll find a role in nickel situations and could be a STs demon. The guy has really good instincts, really long arms 33″ and runs a 4.65. I think he’ll be a good matchup player in today’s passing league. He also has running skills with the ball in his hands. I don’t think his multiple skills should be looked at as a negative, but I get it as a 1st rounder.

      • D's avatar D says:

He’s also an emergency player for a lot of positions. Jack of all master of none probably. Maybe he could be refined enough to master one, but i dunno. 2nd round im sorta kinda ok with but i have never liked the idea of drafting him in the first, even back when he was routinely mocked to us there.

  51. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Stanger, Collins better meet with police and try to come away with some clearance or his draft status will take a big hit.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Also the infant might not even be his.

    • D's avatar D says:

I dont think there is a chance in hell that he is completely cleared by tonight, not enough to satisfy fears im sure a lot of teams have now. I dont see him going in the first and if things arent at least a little more clear by draft time, he may fall a lot further.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

He’s trying. Maybe it works maybe he it doesn’t. Maybe he ordered a hit. But most innocent men would do what he is doing, but then some a smart guilty one would as well. We’ll see.

If Collins drops like a stone would you use one of our 5ths knowing it could be a waste if he’s guilty but also a huge reward if he’s innocent?

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      Yes

      I may even use a 2nd
but definately a 4th or later

    • D's avatar D says:

It would be tempting but im with DBolt, i have never been a big fan of him and im a SEC guy. I just dont want the risk of looking like an ass drafting a guy who may wind up our of football for murder. I know Pats feel different and feel ehonerated by the “well we didnt know” statement, but i wouldnt feel that way and it would really make me lose respect for our guys doing a good enough job in their scouting/investigating. I wouldnt feel right about it even if it would be a really good value pick.

  54. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    I don’t get the hysteria?

Cpl. Don Coppola with BRPD said they’re not treating Collins as a suspect in the death of 29-year-old Brittney Mills this past Friday, but that they do think he might have information about the victim detectives need.

    • D's avatar D says:

Information could be gathered in lots of formats, if they want to be fact to face with him, they want to watch his body language when they ask questions….they can take a certified statement, they can do a phone interview, they have lots of other modes to “gather” information.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I get it……something that gets clicks on draft day. Still may push him into the 2nd or 3rd round though.

  55. There is no way I would waste a draft pick on anyone – no matter how talented – if there is even a hint of something like murder or any drug issues.

  56. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

For as athletic as he tested at the combine, to me, he never really looked that athletic during games and was on the ground a lot whether by his own doing or a defenders. Just not a fan of the player & with the stuff going on now… I would pass myself.

  61. D's avatar D says:

Stanger i wasnt insulting lawyers lol, i have a lot of respect and find the whole legal system both from a defense perspective and/or prosecution and a really interesting mental battle. If i felt i could have handled living with myself if i ever felt forced to bend my ethics, i probably would have pursued that as a career. I spend a lot of time looking at cases, looking at how and why they ask questions, the setup ,etc and im just saying i dont think they brought Collins back without some suspicion of guilt or involvement.

This is a legal nightmare without them feeling at least somewhat confidant they should chance ruining this guys professional life, when they had other alternatives to gathering the info from him they needed. They needed to see him in person, they for some reason needed to ask him questions where they could watch him answer them. They ARENT sure he isn’t involved, they just dont enough to make that statement yet. They are positioning themselves in a place where they cant still investigate but if it turns out they dont have enough to convict they also wont be on the hook for making that statement and forcing teams to pass on him all together. I cant see anything that makes me think he isnt still a suspect, that statement above by the BRPD is posturing.

Also notice how quiet his camp is being regarding this. No one is really making a peep. If i knew my client was innocent i would have filed for a gag order to prevent anything being made public, i would have taken multiple steps to ensure the least amount of impact was done to my client and his draft status. Why arent they fighting it in the least? Why havent they said something to the effect that my client also feels he should be near his family at this time, or somethingt hat softens the blow of him leaving this grand moment for him to return?

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

D — first off, to be a lawyer ethics are no problem……even if morals are at time. But I completely agree with you, the signs are not good. And I wasn’t saying he was innocent, just putting out a scenario where he might be and was rushing things to try and clear up before tonight.

What I can’t figure out is the 180. Dropping everything to go to Baton Rouge and now going to be at the draft. But them and his people know a lot more about going on than we do. The confusion is some extra smoke though.l

  62. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Who cares about Collins. I don’t want him even without the current police investigation he’s involved in. There are way too many good players out there. I’d rather take Jake Fisher than Collins if we going OL route.

So many off beaten path things to do that are very awesome. You really need to take a week during an offseason and just go there and city crawl it. You will like it even more.

What I don’t understand is how you would use a 2nd RD pick on Collins. If you think he’s a risk for being guilty, you don’t take him at all, or maybe a late RD pick. I don’t know, that’s what I think

Due to the unfortunate circumstances, we’ll never find out where La’el would have been drafted, but I would have guaranteed he would have been a top 15 pick for sure. It will be interseting to see where he goes, if at all. I magine he stills go first RD? I think it’s possible. You never know what kind of info someone might have, or even worse, what kind of info was put out there intentionally to scare all the other teams away. I never discount stuff like that happening.

The ceilings are eggshell, the walls are satin, the trim is semi-gloss and the cabinets are satin too (who the hell puts satin on cabinets). The paint goes on the trim and she comes in gets all orgasmic over it (we’re thinking how fucking ridiculous it looks).

  93. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

    Tim,

that wasn’t a referendum on your open mindedness, it was just me interpreting your responses as having already made up your mind about Gurley. I think his talent transcends those kind of generalizations like “I don’t believe in taking RB early”. I say this because I generally adhere to that school of thought as well. Remember a couple years ago when I said I wouldn’t take DeCastro (I think that’s who it was) early and you convinced me to take another look because his talent merited it?

    That’s what I’m pitching you now. 😉

I want you to read that article so when we select him you don’t have to go back and restudy to convince yourself it was a good idea. I heard on NFL Sirius yet again today that NFL Drs. expect him to be 100% for training camp btw.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t need to do all that. If we draft Gurley I hope we commit to the running game more and utilizing him and Miller. I’m just not sure we will. That’s kind of what bugs me. You know I’m a fan of establishing the run and running it more, just not confident we will.

I don’t remember the DeCastro thing at all. Not saying it didn’t happen though.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:
