Remember watching the deep ball disaster the last couple of years?
Miami had a big wide receiver makeover this offseason parting ways with Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson and bringing in Greg Jennings, Kenny Stills and DeVante Parker. Jarvis Landry is the sole holdover that is a lock to make this team.
Now what?
Can the Dolphins go deep?
Do they even need to?
All of these receivers are great YAC guys but what about deep threats?
Greg Jennings has had a ton of touchdowns in his career. Now would be a good time to mention that Aaron Rogers was the Quarterback for most of those touchdowns. So there is that…
Parker’s catch radius is notable. At Louisville he was used as a deep threat often, but whether that translates to the NFL is still a mystery.
Kenny Stills is a legitimate deep threat. But so was Mike Wallace and…um…
Dolphins Radio Announcer, Jimmy Cefalo seems to think we are going to work in the deep ball more effectively in 2015. You can listen to him here:
So bombs away in 2015?

LMFAO! Why to I have to read “Balls Deep” at 6 am?!!!
*do
its okay to go balls shallow before 9am
Rhino
Actually that Avi has been very appropriate the last couple of weeks! 😉
We’ll be able to go deep because we’re going to use the middle of the field more and have the safeties always looking in and let our receivers get man coverage on the sidelines. Whether or not they connect is a whole different thing but the match ups should be there.
Happy Belated Father’s Day men, keep taking care of those babies.
It’s kind of ironic that Go Balls Deep Dolphins! is the title of the article today. On WFAN radio this morning they were talking about a term Phil Jackson used for making a 3 point shot. The word is goink. Go look up the 2nd definition in the Urban Dictionary. LOL
Urban Dictionary has the craizest slang
Yeah and some of it is hilarious and most of it is stuff I’ve never heard of. LOL
This is what I thought when I say Go Balls Deep Dolphins!
I have a feeling it will be a non-issue this season
I think we will be uisng th 15-25 yard pass a little more and getting a lot more YAC
but I need to scrap something together quickly to post this morning
Not worried about Tanny’s deep passes. He’ll be fine if he has an OL that can block more than 1.5 sec and speedy receivers that can run crisp routs while being able to track the ball in the air efficiently.
Omar Kelly ✔ @OmarKelly
I’ve heard this “we’re building to win for the next few years” speech before. What have I seen? Consistent 8-8. WIN NOW! All that matters.
Omar Kelly ✔ @OmarKelly
If Branden Albert doesn’t come back healthy Miami isn’t winning crap. If 2 LBer go down like last year Miami’s struggling to get 6 wins.
I can grasp the albert criticism/scare tactic but not the LB argument…
Oy!
Dead Money
When a team releases a player who either has guaranteed money still owed to him, or has a portion of the player’s signing bonus, which is prorated over the life of a contract (up to five years), not yet accounted for in a salary cap number, that money is accounted for against the team’s salary cap, and termed “dead money.” Miami currently has 27 players who are accounting for dead money in 2015:
Player 2015 Dead Money
Mike Wallace $6,600,000
Dannell Ellerbe $6,400,000
Brian Hartline $4,200,000
Philip Wheeler $1,400,000
Randy Starks $1,000,000
Brandon Gibson $1,000,000
Cortland Finnegan $1,000,000
Could argue with most these guys their entire salaries last year and this year would be considered dead money if kept. Id rather have Wallace’s 6.6 dead money tha his 12mil dead money.
How can you call Wallace’s salary dead money with the stats he put up last yr? Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad he’s gone, but you’re going over board here. Yeah he had lots of passes thrown his way without a good comp%, which is why I’m glad he’s gone, but who else was going to warrant passes their way? Landry had a ton, Hartline seemed to be blackballed, Gibson was more thrilled with what Wallace was doing…
I’ll gladly take the dead money this yr to get rid of the deadwood.
tanny gets it. you can’t win with shitty o-line
Omar Kelly @OmarKelly 2h2 hours ago
“@kae_ermon: any truth to to rumor Tannehil went to the front office and asked them to sign Mathis?”» No clue. But he should.
Doubt the rumor is true. Players do lobby for other players, but i think Tanny is enough of a pro that he lets the GM/Coaches do their job.
Seems out of character, but if he did, they better tell him we’ll do it under the condition that you have to restructure when we need additional cap space.
The Bills and Jests, neither of whom field an NFL quality QB, are clearly signalling that they intend to win now. Why would we be any different? If anyone in the Dolphins organization believes that this year is just another step in the process, and does not feel an urgency to win now, they should be fired immediately
I have heard Philbin say it is the goal every year, so i dont think the outcome has been the way it is because they dont care to win, they just havent been able to put it all together. I think they made a economical decision in FA last year, getting the players they did, so i guess that could be construed as no sense of urgency, but that was also the year they went for a stud at OC, and i think they got one. Each year they have made moves to win, some have worked out and some havent. This year they have made MAJOR moves, so i dont think its even arguable that they arent in that mode this year..
Bat, I don’t think you add a player like Suh with the idea that you’re looking 2-3 years down the road.
Our offense isnt a dep ball driven offense, how is this still hard to process? Im sure we will take shots from time to time but with the receivers we have they are going to have a really hard time defending everyone in the zone between LB’s and S. Safeties will have to play up to better cover this zone and when they do there will be a nice soft spot just behind them where Stills and Jordan likely catch a few for big plays. Players we have now are really well designed to cause havoc middle of the field and about 10-20 yards deep.
I get it
But that doesn’t mean we don;t want to be productive when we do it
its not the bread and butter but other teams who do not rely on it also use it
I expect to see some deep passes this season
Maybe less than 20
but its not completely dead
I agree with this, and to boot im saying because of our bread and butter plays…those more infrequent deep passes will be more successful.
Bills had one major signing, McCoy, and its arguable they had a guy in Spiller they could have re-signed cheaper and gotten fairly close to the level of production from. They didn’t do shit to upgrade QB which is their biggest hole, and they hurt their defense overall by not keeping a pretty damn good MLB (which as we know isnt that easy to replace). Im not seeing as much win now urgency out of them as we have. Jets are in a similar boat, they got Revis and Cromartie back, two aging vets, they drafted a stud DT who is behind two other stud DT’s they already had, they singned Stabby the basket case, but didnt get shti to throw to him and you know how much he likes not having a QB of quality to throw to him. Again, i see some decent signings, and i liked their draft, but urgency?….compared to ours?
they probably think Clay and incognito were major signings as well 🙂
Probably wont think much of it after Incognito makes Cyrus the Virus cry home to Nickey Satan.
LOL @ Stabby the basket case
This is awesome and could save a lot of lives.

D … I agree that the Bills and Jests great “improvement” is largely a canard pushed by the nitwits at NFL network and ESPN. It is also driven by the Bills blowhard coach. I’m just saying that you do not hear anything out of Buffalo or NY about building for the future. Their mindset is to win right now. I’m tired of the go 8-8 and be patient crap .. Time for Bazooka Joe’s program to produce or get out of town.
Bat, what brought up the mindset of building for the future? Tannehill had said on a few occasions he expects the team to win a lot of games this year. Is it commentary on the team wanting to get get to a point where they start winning and can continue to win for years to come?
Tim … It was triggered by this:

This can be said by 24-30 teams league wide….lol
Bat, what prompted him to say tweet that and I don’t read that as not trying to win this year. Building to win for the next few years is a good thing. That would be fun and different wouldn’t it be? LOL

http://www.examiner.com/article/no-panty-day-ditch-the-panties-go-bare-down-there
Tim .. Until we win ONE year, I’m not really thinking about being a consistent winner. Especially given the volatile nature of the league with teams making big rises and falls each year .. plus we’re stuck in a division with a team that is allowed to cheat and always given the benefit of the refs discretion.

Doesn’t look like I’ll be doing the fest this year after all. It’s the same weekend as the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s that my family participates in each year. 😥
Walk to Miami thats a hell of a walk sponsorship and end result is you get to attend the fest. May have to start a few days early but hey do what ya gotta do.
I honestly was just starting to feel Pete Rose had an outside shot of being allowed in the Hall, as i felt a lot of the stuff surrounding him betting on baseball was kinda dying down but this adds a wrinkle to that chance.
http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/13114874/notebook-obtained-lines-shows-pete-rose-bet-baseball-player-1986
Obviously betting on baseball if its against the rules, then he violated the rules and would be subject to scrutiny. Sill its hard to believe that a rule, aimed at preventing players and coaches from fixing games, would affect players who had such stellar careers as he did. He obviously played his hardest every game regardless of how he bet, so his accomplishments should be less tainted IMO than those who used PEDs, as their performance was directly affected by the rule they violated. Im a fan of Pete Rose in the Hall but im thinking now there is little to no way he ever makes it in, and as far as im concerened if this remains true, Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, etc should all be kept out as well, and as much as it hurts me to say it, same for Clemens.
Also seems to me many players were forgiven for their “addictions”, he obviously had a problem with ambling, wouldnt this kind of fall into the same category?
gambling
Mike e has a point. From Jackson
“To appreciate how important it is for Wake to be at his best, consider:
He had eight sacks last season in the Dolphins’ eight wins, just 3.5 in their eight losses. He had two sacks in Miami’s only December win against Minnesota but no sacks and just four combined tackles in the December losses to the Ravens, Patriots and Jets.
Wake watched every one of his 2014 snaps on tape this offseason and said his blood boiled when he reviewed those three late-season losses.
“I look at that sometimes and say, ‘I could have made that play. I could have changed that game.’ Every year, my blood pressure goes up [when I watch tape]; I’ve got to go get some medicine.”
Bat you cant agree with the braided coconut, it threatens to unravel the fabric of reality.

Ummm, it’s 2015.
That was my first guess. LOL
Sorry guys, but I need to post this here, in case some of you know this and think i am not affected.
Awww Herd, sorry you won’t make it. I was looking forward to meeting you but certainly you are doing something much more important.
Is it too late to change the fest date?
I was born and raised in Charleston, played as a child on the cannons which started the Civil War, which are still aimed at Ft. Sumter in the harbor, and frequently heard it called The War of Northern Aggression.
I have worshiped in that church, as I am Methodist also and lived nearby. Later, my wife was a wedding photographer who took pictures in that church. I know personally at least two of the families who lost people in this disaster. I also have certain other memories and factual relations to that church and its congregation.
I have some very strong feelings about the flag and some other facets of this debate, but I cannot speak of history and philosophy right now in this raw emotional condition.
Naples, sorry this happened its horrible. God Bless the families.
People are going to hate, getting rid of the flag won’t stop hate but I wouldn’t mind trying it.
Naples, I’m sad for you that you have connections to some of those who lost their lives in that horrible act.
As for the flag, the state can take it down but those who attach hate to it will still sport it on jackets, shirts and hats and fly their own. Hate is the issue, not a flag.
I’m really torn about the fest. I could come and I’m sure I’d have a good time, but I’d be thinking that I should have stayed home and done the walk with my family. 😦
Old Ladies they wanna have fun…
Cyndi Lauper turns 62 – Happy Birthday
Having lived my entire life in the south, from the redneck riviera (Panama City Florida), Pensacola FL (sometimes referred to a LA (Lower Alabama), Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi i can certify that in the south there are groups, sometimes large and small in all of these areas that are hateful people whom continue a lifestyle of racism that the rest of the world has moved past. Also in these areas is the most integrated communities i have ever seen in my travels. I have seen many parts of this united states through work in anything from urban city hospitals to rural community hospitals. I have seen diversity or lack there of across the US, and places i have lived have been some of the most adjusted integrated communities i have seen.
Many families in these communities are integrated, lots of mixed racial families, and outside the few that make splashes on TV we live pretty closely with one another. One of the closest family relationships i had growing up was with a black family, their son and i played baseball together, we hung out together at picnics sometimes. We helped them out financially and they in turn helped us out when my mother was very sick. They still check on my father when they go back to my hometown as they know and care about his progress with his cancer. They help keep an eye out for trouble while their house in Florida remains fairly abandoned these days. Truthfully there are difference in us, but in general we don’t recognize them. They are good people and they see us the same.
Many of the communities around here, and i would guess is same in the Carolina’s are at peace with integration, much more so than a lot of those in the North or the West are, simply because our communities are very diversified, many times with populations closer to 50/50 or even 60/40 black to white. Its not odd for us to see blacks and white in and out of any and every establishment here, and yes there are still people in our communities that will never accept them, same as there are anywhere i have been in the United States. This is not a Southern thing, its not a Rebel Flag thing, this is an evil thing, this is a hatred thing, this is lack of humanity thing.
People must stop fighting the things that are false focus of responsibility and start facing the truth, that blaming everything on race makes everything about race and makes us more divided. Listening to the hatemongers stir the pots and enrage one side or the other to take action just further divides us and makes the hate stronger. There needs to be more come-together moments like we had around 9-11, because in times like this we need each other to get by and to move past it and im sick of bullshit agendas stepping in the way of that.
Great post D.
Awesome post! To me it starts with every individual doing their part. It doesn’t have to big a big group or organization, just be a decent, peaceful person and realize not all people are the same nor should they be. Different doesn’t mean bad and criminals come in all walks of life.

Family first Herd; there’s alway next year.
Ohhh, so all the #15 jerseys were to represent the upcoming 2015 season. Heck I thought Tyler McDonald had one helluva fan base willing him to make the final roster. 😉
When asked about the talent this yr compared to last yr, guys like Omar and Chris Perkins have mixed thoughts, but what they don’t seem to mention is we had lots of talent last yr, that was good enough to make the playoffs, if not for some key injuries. Atlanta had a couple of key injuries 2 yrs ago and fell off the map.
We got rid of the system misfits and malcontents, so the question shouldn’t be do we have more talent it should be can we get more out of them.
I like our roster and the young competition on this team and not all of them are going to make the 53. But I’m holding off making any projections until they’re in TC and we see some PS games. Even then we won’t know until we play a few RS games.
D,
I agree, however, it is the same thing in many countries around the world and not exclusive to the US. I lived in Italy briefly as a university student in Milan for 5 months and many of the students housed with me were from the Italian south (south of Naples and a good amount from Sicily).
The students explained to me some of the racism received from Northern Italians who consider themselves ‘white’ europeans who were not ‘polluted’ by the Moors as the southern coast was throughout time. The countries production is also heavily weighted to the northern half (when I was there in the early 2000s; 2/3 of Italy’s GDP came from the Northern half; the South had roughly a 25% unemployment rate).
Hell, when I was in London (I was there for 5 months as a student as well), I was quite surprised at how some openly racist some people were there against people of African descent. It happens in many places I guess that’s just my experience.
Right on, racism/hatred of another man is a worldwide thing of humans living in the evil darkness. It’s not an American thing. It has gone on since man was first corrupted after creation.
Yep, I know about that in Italy. Don’t they have that sort of thing in Cuba too?
In India they have the caste system.
Tim,
Yes (in Cuba), and about that caste system, it is quite shocking how it extends outside of their borders in the UK. It is a problem there with people of Indian descent in power who discriminate against other Indians based on namesake. And by discriminate I mean hire people who come from well known family names in India and reject those who don’t have a name of recognition in India (aka perceived low class individials).
lmfao.
the death of Jackson happened 6 yrs ago this Wednesday.
*where’s your source for this? 😉
GDP,
I was reading something on Tannehill and didn’t realize RT’s agent was Pat Dye’s son (Auburn legendary coach & AD Pat Dye).
http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2014/04/21/People-and-Pop-Culture/Plugged-In.aspx
Yeah, I’ve seen that before…cool stuff.
SteveCCNV,
Omar tries to talk about last year’s WR being better than this year’s (in discussion to talent). You are right; there are mixed feelings about what the right talent level is but more importantly if the coaching is making best use of the talent here. I think part of the ‘expectations’ in Buffalo going into this year is that Rex’s coaching talent is superior to that of Doug Marrone and that Rex’s style can take better advantage of the talent they have which is not in the pass game. There are some who feel the same way about Miami; that the talent is there to make the playoffs and perhaps be 2 rounds in but that coaching might not take them there. We shall see. It is going to be a big year for people to prove what they got. I believe the talent is there and the coaches will have to prove they can maximize what they got (albeit the coordinators or ultimately the one in charge of all of them -> Joe Philbin).

It’s also time to start being a playoff team and a contender. Philbin, some of his staff, Tannehill and other players are all entering their 4th season. You don’t get forever to start being a good team. The guys who are 4+ years in the league what are they waiting for? It’s time for this team to start winning.

I remember a letter from him and he talked about all the american contractors who were killed in action. We didn’t have armed forces fighting in the front lines only contractors. The american military guarded the green zones mostly. Our armed forces provided only support to these american contactors. He said they were being killed 3-4 times the reported american military killed. Many Americans don’t know this. God bless them they are truly unsung hero’s.
Deep sleepers, Hmm, off top of my head, I think Vigil has a chance, Lippett, & Douglas.
Good group there. Now quit guessing
Jetssuck, I have to ask, what is your quest these days with challenging Shula, OD and America? You seem to want to be a dark cloud on anything that can be discussed in a positive way. Just wondering about your agenda?
I don’t understand you questioning about America? My family has served and sacrificed for this country beyond question. I love Shula but without question he did wrong forcing players to do drugs or be cut. That is wrong as wrong can be. OD and Gigi were wrong in saying I lied and twisted facts and in my book this is wrong when I provided proof. I don’t take to kindly to being called a liar or someone who twist facts when I provided proof what I said was true. Sorry you missed what was said about gigi the other day but stay tuned I have lots of information. The next episode is going to provide lots of explosives.

Just going by your 9:15 post. “Many Americans don’t know this.”
I’ve never believed in that when someone challenges my truthfulness. I’m a mild mannered person but sometimes in life you have to stand up when someone pushes the wrong buttons. The wrong buttons were pushed and I gave them a chance to take back what was said.
Did you know the ratio of contractors who were killed? They are just as much hero’s as the military killed in action. People need to know contractors provided a great service to this counrty just as much as the military personal.
I said served, not fought. It’s not only just soldiers. I get it!

Andre Williams is lacking a clear role heading into training camp.
Rashad Jennings is the starter and short-yardage back. Shane Vereen is the change-of-pace option and passing back. That leaves Williams without much to do even though he rushed 217 times and scored seven touchdowns as a rookie last season.
_______________________
Very odd. I know a lot of guys here wanted him in last draft. I think our Williams has similar to better potential.
They need depth so I don’t see the big issue. He’ll get carries when Jennings needs a break and they want to continue to pound it.
Andre Williams will definitely get his fair share of carries. They won’t be using Shane Vereen that much except on passing downs. He’s a much better receiver than rusher.
I was talking with the Jets CFO this past weekend. He was very amused at Tannenbaum up to his tricks again, going on a spending frenzy. He’s also very impressed with Todd Bowles.
I don’t think signing a player of Suh’s magnitude and locking up your young ascending QB and pro bowl center as a spending frenzy. 2013 was a spending frenzy and on the wrong players.
He made a big splash, that’s the Tannenbaum way
Mike E, of course the now Jests CEO is gonna speak ill of the departed Jests CEO, and of course he’s gonna speak highly of the new guy Bowles…well, until Bowles gets fired. 😉
Not CEO, the CFO. He wasn’t really speaking poorly of him at all, just saying that he’s back to doing what he does. It’s toally accurate, this has been his MO.
Please enjoy today’s musical selection, chosen especially for the Jetssuck/OD/Gigi dust up …lol
Is that Kaitlyn Jenner singing?
I never said I thought Andre Williams was a bust or bad….just that he’s taken a bit of a back seat for now. Not the feature back role as he was perceived to be coming in. But he’s young, will still get his chances.
I like where we’re at in our RB corps. Look forward to seeing how they’re used this fall.
‘Well’s’ today is the day we the people get butt raped, just like we will with our useless congress passing TSA/TPP (Obummertrade) 👿
A source tells NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that if Tom Brady says the same thing he did to Ted Wells, his four-game suspension will stand on appeal.
Brady’s job at Tuesday’s 9:30am appeal hearing is to convince Roger Goodell he isn’t guilty. Proving the league’s process is flawed won’t help. One way to go down a different path than Brady did with Wells is to make his cell phone records available. Even if he does that though, Goodell could very well deem it too late and deny the appeal.
At first thinking that singer was a guy, I’m relieved to find out its a girl so when I was saying “he’s hot” I wasn’t being gay, lol
That’s Kaitlyn Jenner singing?
yuck
NOT!!!
Imagine that they’re calling Suh a big splash, hmmm you think.
Big Splash that’s gonna whoop your sorry ass.
Was it not a big splash? Those weren’t his exact words BTW, just his intimation. It was a very casual convo, I didn’t record it. lol He’s a really good guy to talk to. Just talking as friends and fans, but he certainly has more background with Tannenbaum than any of us do.
Of course Suh is a big splash, the only one. I’m sorry if you have a friend who is stej, I profess sports biased based hatred to all who are there.
Bat, I guess Arch Enemy went through a lineup change and Jeff Loomis joined them.
I always though Angela Gossow was hot but so is this new chick.
Alissa White-Gluz
Tim … Yeah, I think the band sounds incredible on this latest release. I kind of like Alissa’s vocals a little better than Angela’s, but both rock.
Tim, Imagine “being with” a hot metal chick and when you say enter a certain spot and she yells like a dude? You’d go running the hell out of there.
AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
GDP ..If Alissa brings to mind Kaitlyn Jenner for you, you have serious issues …lol
If that’s her voice, she can stay away from me. Lots of hot looking ‘feminine’ women out there for me! 😉
LOL Son – I have friends and family that are Jets fan. It’s the way it is living in the tri-state. I still like them even though they’re Jets fans.
Prove you’re a “real” Dolphan and go egg their houses, lol
Soooo, you guys think Brady’s suspension will be shortened or do we continue to talk about the wonderful and diverse musical range of death metal bands?….lmao
It shouldn’t be but I felt like ever since Goodell and Kraft had make up sex its in the bag, either down to 2 games or even none.
I figured from day one that it was a kangaroo court at best…lol
Tim … Interestingly, Angela pretty much hand picked Alissa as her replacement as she remains the band’s business manager.
Is this them together, Mmmmm
No!

I think the suspension will stay at 4 games. I think Kraft backed off due to past considerations given to him by Goodell, and possibly future ones if possible.
Bat, yeah I read that about Angela picking Alissa. The metal community is cool like that. Well at least a lot of them. There’s always jerks in any walk. LOL
Mike … I am troubled by this relationship with an employee of the filthy, depraved Jest organization. You seem to be under some sort of foul spell which has clouded your mind and softened your stance towards the Jests and their loathsome fans. Get out now …before it’s too late …lol
Bat, the stej office workers are like sirens to Mike, he can’t help himself but to be lured into their trap.
I like Son’s idea, Mike should egg their house and simply explain to him, it had to be done. LOL
Mike E, show your buddy, it’s shameful what the jests have become.
son … LOL ..It’s classic “Stockholm syndrome” he’s spending so much time with the enemy, he’s starting to sympathize with them ..a very precarious path he treads ….
Bat, next thing is a Geno jersey. Then there is no turning back.
LMAO @ you guys!
son .. LOL ..The only question is if Mike’s metamorphosis is complete before Geno is out of the league …
That should be interesting timing.
As to the Brady crap, I believe that Roger and Kraft had a deal in place to reduce it to two games. I also believe that Tommy and the NFLPA are not on board with that and intend to drag this nonsense into the courts if the ban is not rescinded totally.
Tomorrow’s article will be on the Jets O-line. lol
As told to you by the CFO
Very cool 5min interview with A.J. Duhe. He looks a lil shot out like I could run through him, but he seems nice. As an LSU alumnus, he’s had Landry & A. Johnson over for Gumbo at his house.

Coming soon exciting new column …”Ask Mike …. about the Jets”
LMAO, that’s funny
Are we making fun of Geno “Perfect QB rating” Smith? lol
Mike E we demand that you stop flying the stej flag on your property
Mike E sings this on his way to work.
When you’re a Jet,
You’re a Jet all the way
From your first cigarette
To your last dyin’ day…
This it what it looks like.
