Mike E, I know, it’s baffling…..maybe Suh has something going on in his personal life that has him off kilter, like everyone after his King’s Ransom….it surely can’t be the scheme I hope. 😉

    • D's avatar D says:

I think part is not scheming to utilize him, like i was saying before was run some DL twists, call for some stunts, use him better, move him around. Second part is they just cut his legs, again mostly because we are allowing them to by not doing shit on the DL as far as defensive scheming.

With Dion Jordan suspended and Will Davis traded & Gillislee, Sturgis, Jones gone, Fins have Taylor, Thomas, Jenkins, Sims from 2013 draft.
    —————————————————–
How does that mean utter fail Mike, we have 5 of the 7 still on the team. Gills was a mistake to cut. Davis and Taylor, were drafted back to back incase Grimes didnt pan out, so when he did one was bound to get cut or traded and Sturgis, well that one didnt work out. Jordan is really the biggest shocker and that horse has been beaten so many times i dont want to start it again.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Saints fear Drew Brees (shoulder) could miss “several games.”
There was an unconfirmed internet rumor making the rounds Monday that Brees has a torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder. Vegas has installed the Panthers as whopping nine-point favorites over the Saints for Week 3. Signs now certainly point to Brees missing action, despite the Saints’ attempts to publicly downplay the injury on Monday. Stay tuned for updates.

Was talkign with a few people today and i think we may be looking at the last couple of years for Brees. Manning probably after this year, Brees after next, Brady….at this rate sometime next decade.

    ——————————————–
Tim i saw 0 twists, and only a couple shifts. We did last game bring the LB’s more. I said so if you read back, but we did very little to none the first game. We have to shut down gaps this next game so we need to do even more of it. We are not mixing up the defense at all. Same basic formation every time.

  6. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I think Coyle & Philbin really sold themselves on being good enough rushing 4 after signing Suh.
When we do get into desperation blitz mode, the offense was expecting it, could see it coming and usually picked it up well.

I wanna see some aggressive stunts, blitz pkgs early on with a teams 1st series….try to do something disruptive to ‘Set the Tone’.
We need to get opposing OL’s on their heels early….takes their OC & QB out of their comfy scripted plays…..and can give our offense the ball in a good spot to get that coveted and mentally necessary early lead.

We had the #12 pick, along with the #42 and #54 in the 2nd, and then in the 3rd, we had the #77 and #93, along with our regular complement of picks. It was a disaster D. Not sure there is any other way to look at it. Our 12, 42, and 54 were thrown in the garbage. That’s a frigging disaster!

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

the trade up for Dion is the push factor here

but Jenkins, Sims and Taylor (and even Thomas) are important parts of this team
this ends up being a shitty argument if we hit .500 wall again
but for now – I’m hoping players like this make up the nucleus of a playoff team (trotters crossed)

They may have been, but doesnt mean ya take the deal if the value isnt there, unless you are saying they were desperate to rid themselves of him. I feel we could have gotten more. Its a chess game, he had value to them and more than 7th round value for us. Doesnt make sense to let him go for so little but it is what it is at this point.

  13. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Reading some of the comments from the Week 1 Jags loss @ Carolina and it seems that the game was more about the Jags shooting themselves in the foot rather than Carolina being able to handle their own control.
This was a comment from Bortles after that game:
“”Obviously we struggled. We started slow. We had a lot of missed opportunities. It wasn’t so much what they did to us, but it was us beating ourselves. Its fixable things, which it’s good stuff to learn from. And we will learn from it and move on quickly.”

That game was 10-9 Panthers at the half. 2nd half the Jags didn’t do crap (as they didn’t do much vs Miami as well yesterday but get the 3pts needed to win). For all this crap about the 5 sacks the Panthers had, 4 of them resulted in only a combined 4 yard loss total (two sacks came on same set of downs for -1 each).

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Sorry, 3 were a combined 4 yards worth of losses (2 -1 sacks on same set of downs in 3Q). Keuchley had a sack in the 1st half in FG territory but on the next play the jags Allen Hurns fumbled it away near the 20 yard line. 2nd half Keuchley was gone due to concussion. The Jags also lost Joeckel near the end of the 3Q.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Jags are usually very scrappy team….they had more emotion yesterday. Our team acted like we expected to win by just going thru the motions.

    Don’t tell MF13, Shhh 😛

    Redskins waived CB David Amerson.
Mike Mayock’s scouting report on Amerson coming out of North Carolina State included the memorable quip, “He gave up more vertical touchdown passes than any corner I’ve ever seen in my life.” Very often players don’t change their stripes from college to the pros, and Amerson remained a touchdown-allowing machine in Washington. Still only 23 years old with great measurable size and speed, Amerson should get a chance elsewhere.

  16. D's avatar D says:

Tanny has had some shitty throws, in spite of his pretty good yardage and rating, He also has missed reads of some wide open receivers, Landry on last play, Cameron for an east TD in the seams. He definitely has some shit to clean up but no its not all on him. He does share some responsibility though.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Missing other open receivers while completing a pass near by is a good thing….means more than one guy is getting open.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah but no QB hits every play in a game. I’m more concerned about the pass rush, OL and run game. They have consistently struggled.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

He’s erratic for sure……but then name me a perfect player? Total numbers are just that. And not such bad ones to have.

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

He left two big plays out there (Cameron one you talking about wouldn’t have been a TD cause the safety was rolling over high and Cameron doesn’t have the speed to beat him with his legs). Either way that was about 40-60 yard potential left out there. It will go down as a pressure stat because the right side of the OL allowed someone to barrel through and hit Tanny right as he released it.

  17. D's avatar D says:

At this point noone, outside of Landry and maybe Cameron really have no blame in this. Stills isnt really getting open. Jennings has a HUGE drop yesterday. OL all across the board has been sloppy both in getting penalties and in their blocking assignments. RB play has been poor. QB as stated above. DL hasnt gotten pressure, LB have either been schemed soft or they are playing soft, CB have looked bad in coverage, DE get stupid fucking penalties and not enough pressure on the QB.

Jones would made my list too but he had some bad missed tackles in game 1. Overall he has played pretty good i think.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

But yet the QB that line protects won’t be back behind center for 6-8 weeks after getting sacked yesterday. Go figure?

    • For all the money we paid to Suh I would have rather kept Odrick and get another DL and put major $$$ into the OL. Ross has money he just doesn’t spend it wisely. See: Suh & Mike Wallace. Also, what good is it if you have a $100 million QB with a (STILL) shitty OL? He’s gonna get killed he took some hard shots yesterday. We have no run game because we have no blocking, playcalling is almost as bad as Mr. Magoo.

  26. bat's avatar bat says:

LMAO …The Fins o-line couldn’t hold blocks that long unless they were made of velcro..

  27. Dallas’ OL is by far 1,000 times better than the turds we have playing for the Fins.

  28. Romo gets injured a lot and he is kind of goofy when he runs (lol), but imagine Tanny behind the Cowboys line? Holy crap!

  29. bat's avatar bat says:

See how a QB can slide right and left maintaining his throwing position behind a good o-line. Unlike Tannehill, who has to immediately retreat backward as the pocket disintegrates almost instantly.

  30. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Got to question the HC, who hired the OC’s & asst coaches, who can’t seem to get the best out of them, or get them on the same page, who all seem to have a flawed approach/system to the game that isn’t jelling with the different players that they keep acquiring…..vicious cycle of frivolity in 50 games so far.

  31. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Let’s not write off Suh after 2 games Bat LOL.
They did the same thing in Buffalo when Mario Williams got off to a slow start there and now they aren’t complaining about it.
Regarding Haynesworth, the only thing Suh has in common with Haynesworth is his position & big contract.
Suh’s work ethic is much better than Haynesworth; has always stayed in great shape.
Suh has never missed an NFL game due to injury (just a couple for suspension).
He’s under a new system and I expect perhaps some early nuances within the new system.

  32. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Bat — not a fan of Tannehill’s pocket presence, but the kid’s nickname should be Timex. He takes the licking and keeps on ticking. There is a value to that.

  33. bat's avatar bat says:

Stanger .. You’ll change your tune when Weeden has a career day as Dallas routs us later this year…lol

  34. bat's avatar bat says:

Stanger … Tanny’s awareness and pocket presence leave a lot to be desired, but I think the porous o-line and Sherman trying to keep him frozen in the pocket contributed to the problem.

  35. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I think Bat was saying Tanny has no pocket, so he has to retreat, no cushion or area to float back and forth.
When Pouncey snaps the ball it looks like a WWE battle Royale or a San Quieten prison break.

  36. bat's avatar bat says:

Al .. I have plenty of hate to go around after this pathetic start, but Suh and his three tackles are worthy of special loathing.

  37. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Bat — just repeating myself, but Tanny’s numbers have improved this year. I do have problems with the OL but it is more in the running game.

  38. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I guess John Benton has lost his pixie dust 😉

  39. bat's avatar bat says:

Stanger .. The problem with the running game starts with the play calling. When slow developing stretch plays out of the shotgun are your staple, there’s a good chance you will not be successful

  40. Who cares if Tanny has better “numbers”?? He threw it 44 times yesterday (good stats and we LOST), he is NOT Dan Marino. We still cannot seem to score over 20 points….he makes some really great throws and others makes you scratch your head…he is inconsistent. We had 4th and 1 and instead of looking at 2 guys open he throws a pass no one could get game over. He is not to blame at all for us losing, but he still has a way to go. Our overpaid, overhyped DL had ZERO sacks yesterday, the Jags had 2. Our defense gave up 396 yards our offense only had 386. Bad coaching, lack of talent on OL and depth i killing us — again. Buffalo has beaten us the pst several years made us look bad, hopefully we turn it around Sunday in the Aqua Dome of Death (I absolutely HATE that the whole stadium is aqua – Jaguars South).

Yeah but no QB hits every play in a game. I’m more concerned about the pass rush, OL and run game. They have consistently struggled.

yeah but that is not as near as easy to just blame the qb.

i think we all know tanny isnt brady, manning or rogers. to expect him to win the game by himself is just asking for him to do thing he cant. he doesnt do that, like he didnt lose the game either. this team has far more worse problems then it qb, but that is the easiest target

  42. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    bat,
tanny is not the problem. He’s the best thing going for this team and the only reason for any optimism. Without tanny I’m not sure where we’d be. We need to play D and run the ball better.

  43. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    GDP,
Benton is only guilty of not teaching his less than stellar OL to hold as the Patriots do

  44. bat's avatar bat says:

The fact that this team seems incapable of ever stating fast, points to a lack of preparation, focus and discipline. Either we have a roster of lazy, stupid underachievers or we have incompetent and useless coaches. I point to the latter as the more likely issue. I’ve been pounding the drum for blowing it up since Bazooka Joes first late season collapse. .. I will continue to do so through this current kabuki dance to 8-8

  45. bat's avatar bat says:

Boulder … Tannehill is not the main problem here. Far from it. He’s not an elite QB and expecting him to overcome a flawed team beset by horrible coaching is not realistic.

  46. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Gigi,
I’m frustrated overall but got to keep these last two games in context after 2 weeks of play. Jags weren’t exactly blown out by the Panthers (the total yardage was basically even with Jags a couple yards extra on similar number of snaps). The key in that game was the big pick 6 Bortles threw in the 3Q. The Jags WR dropped alot of passes in that one and Hurns fumbled the ball away inside the red zone in the 2Q when it was 3-3. Allen Robinson turned his ankle at some point in that game and was limited the rest of the way; LT Joeckel went down late in the 3Q which added the problems Jags had in the 2nd half (that weren’t a problem for them vs Miami).
As for the Redskins, I got pissed for sure but then the Skins go out and blow up the Rams DL more than they did vs Miami with the running backs while Cousins managed to go 23-27 passing against that great Rams DL. Time will tell what happens with this team but it’s certainly frustrating as a fan to watch this.
I think the Fins will let out their frustrations on the Bills in the home opener.

  47. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Bat,
Speaking of media bias….not ONE single outlet discussed how the Patriots almost blew the game away vs the Bills (Bills outscored NE 19-3 in Q4). The narrative was cemented from the get go “MASTERFUL PERFORMANCE”.

  48. bat's avatar bat says:

“I think the Fins will let out their frustrations on the Bills in the home opener.”

They will likely accomplish this by taking several idiotic personal foul penalties in the 4th quarter as Buffalo runs down the clock with a 20 point lead…

  49. bat's avatar bat says:

Al .. When outcomes are scripted, results are less remarkable.

  50. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I agree with Gigi. Instead of spending 114 million on a DT we should have spent it on the o-line. No one player other than a QB is worth that much money. We thought we were getting reggie white or something.

  51. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    bat,
I completely agree. But a good coach can win with tanny. And I bet if we get a new coach, tanny’s the main reason he takes this job. He’s a top 10 QB this year. IF you can’t get to the playoffs with a top 10 QB in the NFL you don’t belong in the club.

  52. bat's avatar bat says:

Boulder … This staff will continue to stifle Tanny’s growth at the position. Hopefully he can get through this season without major injury. I look forward to seeing what he can do with solid coaching and game planning.

  53. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    AFC Conference….16 teams 4 Divisions……
Being a Division Winner is only sure way of guaranteeing a playoff spot. So that’s what about a 25% chance your team will be in the postseason at the beginning of each new season = a lot of unhappy fans around the NFL each year.

Miami just has to find that fine line, that edge that breaks thru those long odds.
We have talent, so coaching is the next obvious culprit.

If Joe Philbin and staff can coach, then they’ll show it by finding a way to win the next 2 games against division opponents and have us @ 3-1 (2-0 division)
That’s something to build on….otherwise it’s gonna be a long odds season until be have our next regime change.

  54. bat's avatar bat says:

  56. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

TWO ISSUES: #1) I DID NOT wait until Miami was 1-1 to call for his being fired. IN FACT, I called for his dismissal after his 2nd season when he was 6-10. I did NOT need 50 games to come to the obvious (to me) conclusion that Philbin’s not the man to lead the Dolphins into the future. IF ANYONE’s still of the opinion that Philbin is the best man for this job, all I have to say is you could NOT have followed the last 50 games very closely. Both Philbin and his assistants have done a less than satisfactory job of guiding this franchise. WHAT A SHAME we wasted two additional seasons with Joe STILL AT THE CONTROLS!! Had we replaced him after year 2, we’d be well on the road to recovery. BUT NOOO-O-O-O. Ross, and those who think like him, seemed OK with mediocrity. Ross, in fact, EXTENDED PHILBIN’S CONTRACT, as he’d done previously for Sparano just before firing Sparano!! –THAT may make sense to SOME of you, but it makes NO SENSE to me!
    ———————
ISUE #2) –There was a time when this franchise had true football geniuses for the positions of Head Coach and General Manager. TOMORROW, the Old Dolfan will take you back in time for the 1973 AFC Championship Game played in (where else??) the historic Orange Bowl!! –Early in 1973, the Oakland Raiders snapped Miami’s 18-game winning streak by beating the Dolphins in Memorial Stadium on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley. Miami, minus injured Paul Warfield, lost a 12-7 game. But THIS TIME WARFIELD WAS READY TO GO!! –Ken “Snake” Stabler bragged that the Raiders were THE BEST TEAM IN THE AFC just before this game. The Dolphins, and Paul Warfield, knew better. They understood that, in both the 1972 season and the 1973 season, Miami was UNDEFEATED in games played by Paul Warfield. –And they knew that 80,000 screaming maniacs would be urging them on —including YOUR’s TRULY and his BOYZ!!! –The Old Dolfan will put YOU on the 50-yard line for one of the most significant games in the history of this proud franchise – – – the 1973 AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – – !!!!!
    Enjoy it, Dolfans, enjoy it!!

he is only 7. just tell him to suck it up and stop being a pansy. tell him he has another 50 years of torture before he just gives up

either that or get him a sign on to this blog so he can vent.

  64. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

‘Like it or not, that is what most likely awaits us.’

yep, why i for one am all for it happening now rather then later. start looking for a coach now and let him take over to judge the talent

  65. bat's avatar bat says:

Brian … LOL … He’s only 7. Plenty of time to correct course. As a father, you should take the time to steer him in the right direction, that he might avoid many years of soul crushing dejection at the hands of Miami’s gridiron carnival act.

” IF ANYONE’s still of the opinion that Philbin is the best man for this job, all I have to say is you could NOT have followed the last 50 games very closely. ”

Like hell I didn’t. There are many of us who watch every game multiple times. This kind of statement is so played. Why don’t you save your judgement for the team/players/coaches/owners and spare the rest of us.

  67. bat's avatar bat says:

Instead of Jests/Colts, I’m watching pre season hockey between the Caps and Hurricanes … In my mind, the season is already over …lol

but yet didnt you just do the same? even if i agree with you, everyones judgement should be about the team/players/coaches/owners you just did the same to him. you gave him your judgement about him while you told him to spare you his judgement.

  70. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

damn, luck had hilton wide open and missed him. the colts should trade him for tanny

    that is fucking priceless.

  73. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

wow, i put the game on and i think i have watched 3 or 4 plays and every play has been a penalty.

once again just pathetic officiating this year. they are so interjecting them into the game.

  74. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

ha ha ha, luck thinking he is tanny throwing inaccurate passes. i thought you could only throw inaccurate passes if you played for miami.

Luck with the INT deep in Colts own territory.

The whole DL concept of keeping your shoulders square to line, getting your hands on OL, pressing him & controlling him is gone from this D

Brian … Grasping at the crumbs of hope that this team tosses your way will only reap further disappointment and aggravation. Embrace the Hate! …You’ll feel much better…lol

LMFAO! You know what killed me yesterday Bat? Seeing my 7 year old son dejected at the end of the game. I hope these fuckers turn it around so he can enjoy some success in the years to come.

Luck with a bad INT deep in Colts territory results in easy TD for the Jests.
Luck on next drive, meh….now sitting on a 13.9 QBR

Maybe we can trade Tanny to Indy for Luck straight up.

    Vinatieri misses 29 yd FG

Hmm, me thinks it’s a team game when all players must play together effectively.

So I’m going to provide five good things I see from the #Dolphins through two games this season. Are you ready, Miami tweeps?

James Walker ‏@JamesWalkerNFL 8m8 minutes ago
Dolphins positive No. 5: They will win some games you don’t expect. It happens every season, just like they lose some you don’t expect. #JAX

James Walker ‏@JamesWalkerNFL 11m11 minutes ago
#Dolphins positive No. 4: The two-minute offense is much improved. I know it’s early, but Miami’s O moves the ball well in those situations.

James Walker ‏@JamesWalkerNFL 13m13 minutes ago
Dolphins positive No. 3: MIA is a good third-qt team. Joe Philbin deserves some credit for halftime adjustments. *Ducks from flying objects*

James Walker ‏@JamesWalkerNFL 17m17 minutes ago
#Dolphins positive No. 2: Some Miami players are absolutely balling. S Reshad Jones and WRs Jarvis Landry, Rishard Matthews are among them.

James Walker ‏@JamesWalkerNFL 19m19 minutes ago
#Dolphins positive No. 1: QB Ryan Tannehill has a 101.7 passer rating. He hasn’t been perfect. But he’s doing well under the circumstances.
