WHAT MAKE HULK ANGRY

incredible-hulk

By Dr. Bruce Banner

Rage!!!! Smash!!!! Slam!!!! Hulk no see Red. Hulk see green, miserable gang green. Hulk so angry he want to replace Jets toilet paper with sand paper. But Hulk should no be angry with miserable putrid Jets. Jets did nothing wrong except play football. Hulk angry with miserable putrid Dolphins. Miserable putrid Dolphins no show up in London, the same could be said about Washington, Jacksonville and Buffalo (well that was in Miami but you get point). Hulk angry that miserable putrid Dolphins have no anger like Hulk. Why should Hulk get angry when miserable putrid Dolphins show no anger? Show no emotion? Show they no care? Why should Hulk care? Hulk don’t know why but Hulk cares, Hulk cares so much it hurts! Why it no hurt for Suh? Why it no hurt for Tannehill? Why it no hurt for Misi? Why? Because miserable putrid Dolphins led by miserable putrid Joe Philbin who get more angry about a gum wrapper on the practice field than the piece of shit that Dolphins leave on playing field every week. Miserable putrid Dolphins take on personality of emotionless, stoic, rudderless and clueless head coach. Coach Joe may be nice guy but Hulk no care. Hulk want good football coach and now 4 years into Coach Joe era Hulk know we no have one.

Hulk angry that he has watch uninspired, flat football for the better part of the last 16 years but it has been especially flat in the Philbin years. Yes there was the Cam Cameron disaster but that only last one year. Yes Tony Sparano fist pumped the Dolphins through a period of mediocrity but at least he produced one of Hulk’s favorite seasons in 2008 when Dolphins were fun and exciting to watch with innovative wildcat offense. At least Sparano recognized after 2 games the need to change when things were wrong unlike coach Joe whose surgically inserted rod up his backside makes him unable to change even when everything go wrong. Sparano at least had fire and show emotion. Coach Joe so bad that Hulk longing for the innovative and exciting football mind of Tony Sparano. What has world come to?

Hulk angry that Dolphins become boring to watch. Hulk remember as young Hulkling watching Bob Griese throw deep to Paul Warfield and handing off to some guy named Zonk who run over everyone. Hulk remember how Dan Marino made every Sunday a must watch, how no matter how far behind Dan could and often did bring team back from impossible deficits. Hulk remember defense of Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, Tim Bowens, Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain and how they could just stop an opposing offense cold. What Hulk got to watch now? Another failed 3rd and long conversion? Another 3rd and long conversion against our defense? A costly penalty at a crucial time? Hulk see this script too many times. Every team seen this script too many times. Every team know what we going to do. Every team no have respect for Phins and why should they when coach Joe just stand and stare from sideline looking like he is waiting for his constipation medicine to start working. The only problem is that it is coach Joe that needs to be flushed if this team and franchise is ever to become a winner again. Hulk done!

Were getting the Offense going during the Bye, Lazor can stay.
Campbell is going to make him run the ball 35 times a game then throw in some play action.
Were sticking with the run from now on and everything will start working.
And watch, I say Brenner will be starting somewhere on that line come Gameday
    GO PHINS!!!

I’m not sure he just shell shocked
we were talking about his crappy pocket presence since his rookie year
    it was never good
    it didn’t become bad
    it was always bad

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think his pocket presence is bad, I think the lack of pocket too often makes it seem that way. Also our receivers don’t get a lot of separation. Every pass seems to be contested. He has to hit it just right or there is no room for error. Rarley do we have someone wide open.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        I disagree about the receivers
they are getting very good seperation and more often than not, when they are open, they are being missed

  13. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Piggy, you see very good separation from our receivers? Wow that’s something else I guess I’m missing. I also still see guys being hit with a hand on the foot and they go down while opposing receivers run through it or around it and pick up chunks of yardage. I don’t what is up with that with this team regardless of who the receivers are. It’s totally frustrating.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

I think our receivers are better than fine. I see them open all the time too. However, I agree with you about Tannehill’s lack of protection making the hypercriticism of his “pocket presence” (an area I honestly never really questioned with Tannehill) off the mark.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Within 5 yards maybe. I see too many contested passes and very few explosive runs after the catch.

  14. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Piggy

There’s no deception in our offense. When the protection uscks, and then defenders know we’re passing, it’s just too much to ask from tannehill. there isn’t the slightest balance in our offense, no run game to worry about to keep the defense honest. It’s worse this year with a worse O-line.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The offense to me is more about scheme than the defense. The defense isn’t playing violent and the offense does some things that make you scratch your head on why would you run that play there. 2nd and 8, let’s run a stretch play for 0-2 yards and make 3rd downs more difficult time and time again.

    ————
Schwartz is currently working with the NFL officials…he’s a free agent. I think for sure he’d have taken a interim job. Probably instantly, but the tweet above insinuates he was offered the DC position, and as I already said today on this blog, no way in hell is he going to come in and work under Campbell, a guy with a resume about 3 sentences long and no notable coaching experience. Schwartz was, and currently still is considered to be, a bona-fide NFL HC. No point in playing DC for a guy who-for all Schwartz knows-is just going to screw the pooch.

I don’t like what the players are doing because they’re getting beat. Even Campbell pointed that out as his major focus. Sure they’re trying, but not really competing and we’ve seen it all 4 games.

I’m still wondering what you would like Coyle to do that he hasn’t? He’s played standard 4 man, spread with a LB over the center, Vernon standing up, LBs blitzing, DBs blitzing. What else is there? They’re not winning one on one battles. Philbin said it and now Campbell has said it. And that’s just the defense.

Where are out edge rushers? What Coyle said back off and don’t go after the QB? None of it makes any sense and the DBs don’t play nearly as deep off the ball as people are suggesting. I saw man up, and 5 yards off, not 10 all the time like some people are saying. It’s all scapegoating and giving the players a pass. It’s what I have seen every week.

Guys are right there to make the play, missed tackle, another missed tackle, can’t get off blocks. Is nobody else seeing this?

I don’t watch the game in detail to be honest,so I can’t tell you what every guy on defense is doing. Most times I notice the CB’s are set farther from the LOS than I’d prefer, but as to what Suh and the other guys are doing every play, or what they’re supposed to be doing, i couldn’t tell you. I know there are a shit ton of missed tackles, bu many times the first guy to get near the ball carrier is 5 yards downfield. He’s got to figure out which guys can get it done, and if he needs to push some buttons to make the guys that SHOULD be getting it done, but aren’t then he needs to do that too.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I just don’t get what a coach can do other than put you in a position to make a play. If they don’t that’s on the player. We don’t contest enough balls in the air either. We go oh shit he went that way then fall down and some other guys comes in with a half-hearted attempt at a tackle and what should have been 4th down was now a 15 yard gain and a new set of downs. Happens all the time.

If I blame the coaches for anything I guess it would have to be they don’t inspire and I guess our players need that because they can’t do it on their own. Maybe we see that change under Campbell. I hope so. Because this shit we’re watching has sucked and it’s way beyond scheme, even on offense though I hate our offense under Lazor. i think it’s a shitty approach.

Good article about coaches getting back to basics. Simplifying schemes.

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000542192/article/dan-quinn-winning-with-simplicity-in-atlanta

In the age of the custom hybrid defense, one of the more overlooked components of a coach’s scheme is understandability and functionality. Despite the increasing advantage offenses have, there are still ways to combat a lack of practice time and build a dominant defense that is flexible enough to handle a spread, Power-I or zone-read attack.

This is why a big deal is made when coaches like Rex Ryan and former Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell struggle and talk about getting back to basics. Sometimes a brilliant scheme can grow so complicated that even position coaches are struggling to keep up with the checks and subs which appear simple to the creator, but to its students it represents an equation where all the numbers have changed.

Though we have only suspicions, it could serve as an explanation for why a once-great defense like Lovie Smith’s Tampa 2 — a broad generalization for a system that also incorporates plenty of Cover 1 and Cover 3 — struggles without the cerebral and versatile Brian Urlacher.

SB7, have you not seen guys right there only to get run over or flail at a guy as he picks up yardage he should have never had? Even Suh had Ivory dead and instead of wrapping him up he just shouldered him and bounced him a yard or two laterally, but Ivory’s superior balance corrected that and got 5-7 more yards. He should have had no more than a 2 yard gain. This shit goes on every week.

I scream at the TV all day you fucking had him what are you doing? 3rd and 7, 3 yard pass, missed tackles 12 yard gain 1st down. Is nobody else seeing this?

I am not sure what it takes to convince you Coyle has called shitty games Tim. There have been several people who have pointed out how poorly he has called his plays and you still stick to, Oh i think he’s doing a fine job, its the players who arent playing well. We all know some of the players arent playing well, like Vernon and McCain specifically but if you cant accept he calls a really shitty game all ya really got to do is look at the overall end results of a lucky to be 1-3 season and the fact we are getting obliterated on both sides of the ball.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I see shitty effort. I don’t care if Coyle or Lazor get fired at this point, we already fired the HC so who cares? The players are playing poorly. They’re not fielding their positions well. It’s like blaming a manger in baseball because his team can’t hit. What do you want him to do, ask for tee-ball? Players play the game and when they struggle they lose.

  44. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    Nice staff he’s built.

  45. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

GD, the Falcons had major OL issues last year and they’re playing better this year. They went 13-3 under Mike Smith one season. It always comes down to performance.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Right, and I know it’s generally a mixture of both….But poor coaching can lead to bad performances.
If you had a team of all HOF’s in their prime on the roster, I’m not so sure they’d win a super bowl with poor schemes, play calling, game planning, in game adjustments, clock management, and lack of passion from poor coaching.
Most all of those HOF players got to where they were with solid top notch coaching putting them into positions that they would/could excel at.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Or they were self-motivated and actually played above and beyond. Lots of great players played on shitty teams with unsuccessful coaching. I’ll just throw Walter Payton out there as a prime example.

  46. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If I can point to one thing Philbin failed at, it was his cerebral approach rather than physical. If we do this we’re good, if not do it better. His teams were never overly physical and it really showed this year.

ffr — you don’t need a football game to end up in that city. Matter of fact, might be a waste of time compared to the other options.

  48. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I want to start this post off with this. Nothing I say is personal. It’s my opinion of what I see vs. what you see. That said, if we go back to last year after 10 games and our defense was top 5 in many categories – yards allowed, scoring, sacks etc., what was Coyle doing then that he’s so clueless about now?

I know why our defense collapsed last year the last 6 games – injuries, lack of depth and guys were dragging, you could see it. So why did we start off the same exact way this year? Because the same DC who had a top defense for almost 2/3rds of the season last year forgot what he was doing? When do you point to personnel and performance?

    • D's avatar D says:

Tim, he admittedly changed his defensive scheme. He said he did/was directed to, so yes, he is different from last year. I keep telling you he is calling the D differently this year, how can you not accept that he isnt running the exact same D as last year. Also do you also think that Su, Mitchell, Wake, Vernon, Jenkins, Misi, Grimes, Jones, et all just forgot how to play this year?

      • D's avatar D says:

Oh and he didnt call a great game last year either, huge cock up in several games. He isnt that good period.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I remember that last year, but seems OC’s started catching up with his schemes, or blitz packages, we also seemed to be seeing more and more soft zone, DB’s further off the ball etc.
Then Philbin said simplify it, scale it down as -players were complaining of confusion. Then we had a rash of injuries on D.
It has just seemed to snowball into what it is thru the first 4 games of this year.
I think Philbin & Coyle read to many of the media’s and Son’s post about Suh is here, everything is different now. 😉

  51. D's avatar D says:

There is also a HUGE miss in that post Tim. Including last year he could have altered his game plans to accomodate what he had. He had injuries in the secondary, he could have as easily brought more pressure making the covergae he had work better as he did put extra DB’s in and go with fewer rushers. Obviously he chose wrong and it wasnt working and he kept going back to it. He isnt a good coordinator because he cant adjust for shit. Injuries happen, people hit walls in the season, you gotta be good enough to get around those things.

That’s my problem with Coyle D- he hasn’t been able to adjust to what the opposing OC’s are throwing at him. If I’m not mistaken, we are giving up over 160 yards per game on the ground in the last 10 games, going back to last year. That is absolutely pathetic. Some will say it’s because they are “so exhausted” from being on the field so long because of the offense, but a big part of the reason they are on the field so long is their own fault.

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

That’s what I was saying above. Opposing OC’s copy what another team did successfully to beat you down. It’s a game of physical Chess!

  52. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I would add more but can’t type it all out on my phone. Plus D is handling pretty well himself.

  53. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay, got the same answers. Push it elsewhere. Like I said at this point I don’t care if we fire Coyle and/or Lazor, we already fired Philbin.

Let me ask you this, why is Campbell’s main focus on more physical practices and competitiveness in games? He was right there in the thick of things.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I think that is a big factor too. He probably saw lack of physicality when he occasionally looked over at what the D was doing in games, and saw it first hand when his TE’s would go against our DL & LB’s.
A big part of winning your 1on1 matchups is to be more physical, more energy, than just trying to constantly outsmart your opponent.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Occasionally? His TE group practiced against the D everyday getting their own reps. He might have always thought this is too soft but my pay grade says it’s not your call. His TE group always seems to ascend though. Even Stoneburner has been doing good things.

Maybe it always was mentality. Joe’s didn’t work enough and now he was on a 2-6 streak. Not good.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

It’s a combination of things Tim, but you can’t cut the entire defense. Can the defense play better? Of course, but IMO Coyle is the main problem.

    • D's avatar D says:

Because you dont directly throw colleagues under the bus…. Its not professional. He also said his approach would be aggressive, indicating the past approach wasnt, so that indirectly covers the fact he wont be like them and therefore they didnt do their jobs well. He did say players have to step up but he in no way excuses the previous staff with that statement. Also you are right, you wont get a different answer from me, i see much more of a play-calling issue than a simply a player performance issue.

  54. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

From reading between the lines and reports the practices that Philbin was running caused them to lack intensity. That he was trying to save the players bodies and it backfired.

I have a concern that Campbell may be missing the mark
and I don;t blame him – by the time he gave that PC he was a few hours removed from learning he was the HC

I do think we need to get more physical
And I suspect we were getting dominated in games, not just losing, be we lacked physicality

but I seriously question the Lazor/Coyle system

Do we have to fire those guys?
    No
I wouldn;t mind seeing if a physical team makes a difference by itself

    but what if it doesn’t?

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Additionally, the CBA limits how many full-pad practices can take place during the season, so you can only get so physical nowadays.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Campbell kind of suggested that his physical practices would be legal…

I didn’t really sound like he knew what he was talking about
        I like him
But think he was put in a spot where he had to have a plan now and explain it to everyone

And what he said was basically generalizations and not so much specifics

He just seems to be in the erly stages of overwhelmed and rightfully so. Id say listen to him in a couple weeks win or lose and he will start making a lot more sense and oyu will be able to see better what his ideas/philosophies are.

    • D's avatar D says:

      This is my thing too.

Tim also consider this. For the team as a whole to look as bad there has to be a factor over the entire D or entire O to make them ALL look like they lack intensity. I guess it could be Philbin, it could be thiis whole new sports science program and saving their bodies as SB said. Those are global things that affect the team in global ways. You cant think that the entire team simultaneously lacks intensity. One player lacking it or a coupel wouldnt make the whole team look THIS BAD. This screams of something within a coaches control to make and entire unit/team look bad, especially this bad.

  57. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

As a teacher, I see the problem with the defense as follows:
I am teaching the class about a particular subject, let’s say it’s a text-based analysis piece of writing. Most of the class has produced poor writing samples. I reflect back on how I taught it and what are the strengths and weaknesses of my students, and change things up the next time we do that writing piece with a different strategy or approach. I DO NOT try to cram the way I feel it should be done down their throats until it is done my way. Yes, there are certain aspects of writing that need to be taught and learned a specific way, but there are different was to get there.

    but will it fix everything?

    think about it
If we are a more physical team
    great
    we deifnately need to be

but what are we going to do: run from the shotgun them to death with the same stupid 3 plays we run all day

There is an X’s and O’s component to our bad start that Campbell may not be able to address
We have no FB and 3 TEs (counting Stoenburner who was not on the opening day 53)
our OL is built for movement not power
    How physical can we be?

We have to change a lot to be that kind of team
Its tto just the way we practice

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Start playing more physical and go from there. Campbell said not on our heels. I’ve been saying that for years. Many of us have. He might just instruct Lazor to run it again and stop being a wimp with your offense.

  60. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Tim, it’s not like this happened suddenly….we’ve all felt the coaching was suspect for 3yrs & 4 games now. Yes there were some good games, and we did compete at times, hung in there around .500 close to Wild Cards a couple times….but ya always had this thought that this team was struggling to find a true identity, always a few injuries from the bottom dropping out….and now in the 4th year the OL is still a problem even after several changes have been made in personnel….that screams coaching, schemes, play calling, preparation, and locker room culture to me, a lot louder than 53 so so guys on the roster each year.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

OL coaches have changed during that time, Benton is here and they still suck…but the HC was the same…btw….can 3+yrs of personnel changes be that consistently bad?

  61. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If I’m Campbell, just having some fun because I am not. LOL

I sit in the office with the roster and watch film of every game. I then start making decisions based on what I saw and approach to the game to why we’re getting beat. And go from there. It’s not that complicated. Every team has run over us.

  62. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

GD, I agree, Philbin never established an identity for this team. I still have no idea what kind of team we are. I think it sucks too. I’m not absolving anyone, just trying to point to all things and not just a few. It’s bigger than that.

  63. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Just think about this though. With the exception of QB. We’ve pretty much changed out every unit every year since Philbin has been here with pretty much the same result. We’ve consistently inconsistent. Defense has always seemed to have a tackling issue and a tough time getting off the field on 3rd and longs. Offense gives up sacks no matter who’s on the oline and we still have an issue scoring.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    A- a very dumb individual.

And Philbin told his practice guys to take it easy on Tanny so they just stood there on the next play

Now we know Tanny’s not the sharpest knife in the kitchen how can he be trusted to play QB for this team.

sometimes you expect these guys like Philbin and Tanny to have a little going for them upstairs to be in the position they are and were, and you would think after 4 years that Ross would already know who he’s dealing with.

It’s not about talent, there’s not a big difference in the talent level of NFL players, what seperates the good from the bad is gray matter and this team seems to be lacking in that department

  70. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I watched the Giants vs. Bills this weekend and it got me real mad. The Giants OL is not that much better than ours. Hell John Jerry is starting for them and he couldn’t cut in Miami. Yet the Giants game planned for the Bills perfectly. They committed to running the ball. They negated the Bills pass rush with short but very quick throws and drop backs. Manning had the ball out of his hands on average in 1.82 seconds. The big play for the Giants was the screen when they were able to match up an RB 1 on 1 with an LB. It produced the game winning touch down. They ran ball for over 160 yards and over 4 yards a carry. They threw for over 200 and 3 TDs on 36 drop backs. They had only 1 sack against them and 1 int on a bad route by a WR. There was no magic and nothing our team couldn’t have done. I don’t get what our coaches were thinking.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

we cant establish a running game, obviously running the ball is not the priority of this teams philosophy, we rely on an inaccurate QB to carry us every game.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

We can’t because we won’t try. The Giants committed to it and were successful. Their OL is really not that different than ours. Their RBs are probably not as talented as Miller. The difference was commitment which starts with coaching.

They’ve been connected to ex-Lions coach and Bills DC Jim Schwartz, who unlocked Ndamukong Suh’s potential in Detroit. By nearly every account, Coyle’s players have lost their passion to play for him. Keeping him around would be an odd move after coach Joe Philbin was sent packing.
