Step up Rah Rah Guy

A process man in a results driven league, it didn’t work. Imagine busting your ass to achieve results but getting needled about every step you took to get the desired results. It becomes demoralizing. I can only imagine what it must have been like for the players under Philbin, but I suspect they got needled to the point of insanity when the coaches reviewed film. Despite the effort, despite whatever results you were likely raked over the coals because you didn’t do the process correctly, perhaps you went off script or let your instincts take over it didn’t matter you were held accountable. Pretty soon all you have left is a heartless, demoralized shell of team going through the process. Being a smart or heady player is a good quality for a pro athlete but that’s a small part of what got you there, most often your God given ability and instincts are what set you apart. When that part of you gets suppressed you become ineffective, listless and non-caring, because if there is something else then perhaps it’s on the players and not the coaching.
How can your team get rushed on to the tune of over one hundred yards in the first half alone and you don’t yell at anyone? No one.
How can your offense struggle to even put thirteen points on the board and you don’t yell at anyone? No one.
How can you do the same thing every single week when it hasn’t worked and not try anything different?
Since Steve Ross has decided to make the change all we can do as fans is hope, like we’re always left with. Hope that Campbell’s intensity gets through to the players or hope we get the first pick in the draft. To me I find it refreshing to see a coach who gets excited, who tries to inspire his men, who actually yells at them. It’s easy to say that these guys are well paid professionals who sho
uldn’t need a coach to motivate them and that is largely true, but by the same token you can’t have a coach and coaching staff that by their very actions and beliefs completely demoralizes and uninspires the players. This is where I think the disconnect has occurred. Philbin believed in a process, in development and strict execution of his way. I believe he required certain things from his coaches who thereby passed those things onto the players and we subsequently end up with an uninspired, flat, directionless team. Enter Campbell, a hardass who will demand performance from his players. You won’t have to complete steps 1-12 to earn playing time for Campbell, he just wants to see you play with your ability and talent and see it all pour out of you.
Can Campbell reignite the flame and passion in this group? Can he unite this team and get them working together? Forget a playoff run for the time being, like many have already said we just want to see the team play inspired football and be competitive. Is passion the missing ingredient? Maybe just simply yelling might be the missing ingredient. Maybe being held accountable right at the moment will do it rather than waiting for the coach to watch a film before you get lambasted. If a guy screws up during a game then yelling at him or sitting him will serve a greater good than waiting until Tuesday in a meeting to be evaluated and chastised. With any luck Campbell will put this team on the attack, have them stop thinking and start hitting.
![]()
My biggest hope is that Campbell is better able to have the team prepared when they take the field. We looked outmatched so far in each of the four games. Was Philbin and his staff deficient in breaking down the opponent? Were they poor game planners? What I hope for is that Campbell will be better able to see weaknesses in the opponent and put his team in a position to attack those weaknesses, you know the way teams have been doing to us. Bring the fight to them.
I have wanted a young, fired up, in your face coach for some time now. I hoped the best for Joe Philbin but on game day he made me crazy that he was so emotionless, lacked a certain fire and intensity and all the while bad things continued to happen. I advocated for bringing in Ray Lewis to coach the team in large part because of his intensity and fire feeling that today’s young athletes would feed off of that. Well in comes Dan Campbell who by all indications is exactly what I was advocating for. I wish him the best. I hope the team pulls their collective head out of their ass and starts to play the kind of football we all expected from this group. Shift me to perpetual show me mode, I’ve been burned enough.

Tim,
Come on. Wallace’s strength was getting deep, and we have a QB who struggles with that throw. Wallace’s production was hampered by that. He was still productive…just left a chunk on the field due to circumstances.
***
And I could turn that around and say how is it that Tanny gets so much praise for his production over the past three years, but his MOST productive WR is ripped apart by fans? I could say that, but I don’t talk about QBs. Lol
Part of why Wallace quit was because he couldnt be the flashy receiver he was in other systems. Lazor didnt scheme for him and it probably was to the determent of his production numbers, however, he was a diva, he caused issues in the locker room, he thought EVERYTHING should come to him and he was the anti-development tool for a developing QB. He was part of our issues, though it is true he wasnt not used to the best of his ability either.
Scheme for him to be that i meant.
BTW, Wallace so far has 1 TD a lower YPC 11.7 than at anytime in Miami or his whole career and his longest catch in 22 yards, again an all time low for his career.
I guess we blame Bridgewater now. 😉

Ken, we traded for Brandon Marshall and he was productive here, but he was a headcase. Wallace was also productive here and then he quit. The jury is still out on Suh.
____________________________________
Trade or FA you get my point and no they were not productive. Both had significant drop offs from their previous levels of production and were essentially disappointments for us.
Look at the numbers, they weren’t that far off. Wallace’s production was declining in PIT and the only drop in production for Marshall was he didn’t get his 100 + catches. He still had over a 1,000 yards both seasons. Remember the QB at the time was your favorite Henne. LOL
Wallace’s numbers are not good in MIN right now. His YPCA keeps going down every year. Hmmm…
Kill ’em all
Let God sort them out or give them a beer.
Randy:
Blame it on Tannehill or blame Wallace it doesn’t matter. Fact is he didn’t do what he was envisioned to do when we brought him in. who’s fault that is is not my point. My point is that Miami is where expensive pricey FAs and high value trade players come to fade into mediocrity.
Common denominator is coaching…. just saying. I wouldnt factor Marshall in though that fucker is crazy and it only takes a few years for crazy to catch up to him everytime he changes scenery.
But I do factor him in. He was crazy in Denver but he was also productive. We brought him here he wasn’t productive. Should we have known he was crazy or was it the fact that we had Henne who couldn’t get him the ball and that made him crazy? FIN! But my point he went from being productive to being a detraction almost instantly.

That wasnt a good match either and i knew it when they made the trade. Bridgewater is a high percentage passer, he isnt a deep ball guy so its same shit different day with Bridgewater as it was with Tanny and Tanny has the stronger arm.
Mike Wallace so far has 1 TD, a lower YPC 11.7 than at anytime in Miami or his whole career and his longest catch is 22 yards, again an all time low for his career.
I guess we blame Bridgewater now that he can’t hit the deep ball either. 😉

Suh, Watt prove big dollars on defensive linemen are a waste, says @MikeGarafolo – http://foxs.pt/1MbeMc3
There isn’t one team in the league that wouldn’t take either of those guys on their team so that alone refutes his story (which I haven’t read)
Well since he said it then it must be true. LOL
Realist, nice Steely Dan reference earlier. I love that song.
There is still an APB out for Cam Wake if you see him please tell him to report to Davie the season is already four weeks old. Thanks.

Just watch and see…
Campbell is a Badass and if they get in a fight while at practice Campbell will be the first one to jump in and land a couple blows.
Just watch starting now; Our group of Douchebags are going to bring it and the House!
Just wait; How long, this year; Might not make the playoffs at 10-6 but we wont have a losing season.
All Head Coaches have started somewhere and if Ross cleans house after this we will see Campbell taking Cleveland to the playoffs the season after next.
Oh and then we will really be in Cap Hell under yet another regime who is stuck with personnel decisions when everything would have worked out fine if we just go in the direction we where starting on this year…
LET’S GO METS! LET’S GO METS!
Indeed! Good thing we didn’t have home field because there wouldn’t be a game tonight, it’s been pouring rain for hours.
I wouldn’t go as far to say good thing we don’t have home field, but I get your point
Basically every draft there are 4 positions that go the highest – QB, LT, DT and edge pass rusher. Then you can mix in every other position based on the strength of that particular draft.
Players like Suh and Watt are always going to get big money on the open market from some team so that statement from Mike Garafolo is basically not realistic and somewhat ignorant.
Speaking of edge rusher, ahem
Ken,
I think Tannehill and Wallace was a bad mix from day one. I was opposed to signing Wallace, but he was productive here. I just wish he could’ve been more productive. It’s not his fault the team gave him a big deal. Lots and lots of players are over paid and don’t live up to their big contracts. Suh and Tannehill are both examples of that this year, so far.
Howie if Campbell gets us to 10-6 they better not let him go they better extend him.
8-8 they better extend him….doin the Joe while cleaning up Joe’s mess.
lol @ doin the Joe
That would be 7-5 which given the circumstances would be impressive
Vernon
Vernon
what has become of you
remember how we said that you’d be signed again
Randy
No doubt Tannehill couldn’t use Wallace for what he did best, catch the deep ball.
Wallace’s deep ball production has gone down since his last year in PIT. His YPCA has dropped dramatically the last 4 seasons. The NFL caught up with him.
PIT 13.1
MIA 12.7
MIA 12.9
MIN 11.7
He’s not a good route runner or a good hands man. He’s a sandlot player that won’t be reliable from game to game. The stats tell his story.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/12601/mike-wallace
gdp
Minnesota’s offense is designed to feature AP and not a deep threat WR. Actually, the local media seems to be happy with Wallace so far. Their offense is not gonna get him big numbers. Bridgewater will probably throw 100 or more fewer pass than Tannehill would in a season.
***
He was productive here. That’s all I was saying. He was never going to live up to the contract they signed him to. We all said it when they signed him that he was getting over paid. Most big time FAs are.
I’ll agree with this….also what team wouldn’t wanna feature AP.
Shouldn’t AP set up the deep play-action passing game? That’s what Norv Turner’s system has always been.
And Teddy can chuck it deep pretty well
damn, thought i would see what is up but looks like this is a football site. all you fuckers are talking football. you guys are dolphin fans, you know nothing about football.
Mike E, I just meant if the series started off in NY we likely wouldn’t have a game tonight. I know it’s just a 3-2 home game advantage. In baseball I don’t think it’s that big of a deal either.
Rob, Wake wouldn’t be hanging out on your couch, you know sniffing around, by any chance would he?
D,
I think this fan base doesn’t appreciate how Wallace changed the way he played his second year here. He was running all sorts of routes and getting open. He wasn’t just running 9 routes all game long. He made an effort to go away from what he does best for the betterment of the team. Yes, he looked like he quit in that game, but he had played his ass off all season long. I watched him play hard many, many times. He wasn’t lollygagging or dogging it during games.
***
It didn’t work out here like many had hoped, but the guy played hard for our team. I think fans are way too critical of his performance here given the circumstances. The quitting thing did him no favors. But, enough about him. He ain’t here no more. Screw him. Lol
He gave up on and dropped quite a few passes in Miami. That’s why PIT let him walk, they knew what he was.
He did great at times, but his effort and concentration seemed to come and go at times….you never were sure what Wallace was gonna be out there on what play….he was also a poor down field blocker as far as WR’s are concerned.
I do appreciate his 10 TD’s….hope we see the likes of that from Landry or even Matthews this season & about 7 another WR.
Gotta run….drinking to do. Enjoy your weekend fellas.
Later Randy. I always praised Wallace for what he did here, he became a much better player, a more all around WR.
Tim
I’d still rather have the home field. This year is odd though, all road playoff teams are kicking ass.
We have to match their big two in pitching matchups. That’s our only chance.
I kept reading about the Blue Jays and how bad-ass they are (I didn’t watch any of their games). Down 0-2 to the Rangers and going to Texas.
Playoffs are a new season. The Blue Jays were destroying teams including the Yankees for over a month. They changed their team kind of like how the Mets did with late season moves. But none of that matters now.
A lot of Wallace’s early high YPCA seasons were due to Big Ben extending plays and Wallace being way down field where Big Ben would launch the ball. I don’t take that away from Wallace making those plays, but that’s where it came from. He wasn’t a down to down reliable WR. I had him on my FF team in the early years and eventually let him go because of his inconsistency. He is what he is, fast, and that’s about it.
I saw Wallace change his game (and be a whiny bitch about it), and respected that he put in the effort, right up until he started quitting on his teammates.
I can’t get the image out of mind, of him sauntering off the field while his teammate is getting pummeled by 4 Jets players 1/2 a yard away.
Same here. You knew right then he had to go.
I know no one wants to hear it, but the whole team quit, and looks like they stayed quit. Hopefully, now that Joe is gone, they’ll WAKE THE FUCK UP!
Yep, they all quit playing with heart; but you still have to play for each other. I was still kinda in Wallace’s corner, even with the whiny stuff, until that play right there.
He literally quit and walked off the field during the play but who still tried to help Williams on that play, good ole #14.
Landry is the man. I’m getting his jersey
Kong
I don’t condone what Wallace did, not at all, it was inexcusable. I do think he just took what a lot of other players felt, and took it to another level. I suppose there are many levels of quitting.
Miller didn’t quit that day either.
Tim
Landry is still one of the only guys on the field that looks like he really cares. Sad state of affairs.
He’s a different breed – a self motivated player who wants to be great and prove himself.
He’s also young, so he has to establish himself.
Steve
Think we have too many old fat cats? 😉
Comes back to spending big money for one player on the defensive side of the ball
Sadly enough I do think this team will play more spirited in TEN and moving forward. That doesn’t mean we’ll win all our games or most of them, but they will play more spirited football. I believe it’s impossible not to under coach Campbell.
Philbin couldn’t get it out of them, I think that’s obvious by our 2-6 record the last 8 games going back to the last 4 last year. This was a team headed for a 4-12 2004 Wannstedt season. We waited that year until Wannstedt was 1-8 before making a change – he resigned, lol. DC Jim Bates took over and the team went 3-4 the rest of the way.
So our interim HCs in the last 12 years including Bowles are 5-5 after the tenured HCs went a combined 4-18. Not that this year has any relevance to those seasons, but the winning pct. history says Campbell will win 6-7 games. I’d actually take that at this point but I hope he knocks it out of the ballpark and we make the playoffs and turn the NFL upside down. LOL
Dan does that, makes the playoffs….and copy cat teams/owners will be firing HC’s left & right and promoting position coaches with a mean streak. 😉
LMAO!!!
Dont forget he is in direct competition with his buddy Odell,
Cant wait for that game but sadly I believe I have that one as a loss

Until the Jets joined the NHL we were Parts Unknown for the most part. My Fins roots were born with the CFL Bombers. I don’t recall the players name but one of our guys left to play for Miami so i started following them as best i could without cable and the internet. This just happened to be 1972. Perfect timing pun intended. Kind of lost track of the NFL up until about 81-82 then i just picked up following them again and they again went to Super Bowl and lost a heartbreaker to the frikkin redskins. Then the skies parted Nd we were blessed with The Dan. Been all in since then. And always will be.

That’s horrible what happened in Ankara. Besides the 86 that were killed, at least another 186 were injured.
People still killing each other and for what? Very sad.
Try, a lot of those games against the NL Central was a different Mets team too. But the Pirates still beat us when we were the new Mets. Except for one game they were all close.
All I can say is: 1NYT🔽, 1-2GO!
No one said the Mets were the best team in the NL, but yet here we are in the playoffs, up 1-0 against the Dodgers against their ace in their house. I’ll take it.
We beat the best pitcher on the planet.
I guess you can say that, but he wasn’t the best last night. Cuddy looked awful out there in LF. I’d be very surprised if we see him out there again.
Dodgers also struggled against good teams this year.
Mike E, Kershaw deals with a lot of the same stuff our pitchers have dealt with, no run support. He was very good last night but we had the right approach, take pitches, make him work and get his pitch count up and then get to their bullpen. Do it again tonight to Greinke. 🙂
Yeah, we did a great job being selective. Cespedes looked overmatched, and that concerns me, but I expect him to bust out. Murphy continues to be clutch, I don’t see how we don’t make a strong effort to re-sign him.
Murph drives me crazy as a player outside of his bat. He does boneheaded things in the field and on the base paths, but he can hit.
He made a nice play last night though. He is a frustrating player to watch, because he makes bad decisions pretty often, but he can hit, and occasionally, he’ll make a nice play in the field too, like last night.
He is right on this one!

Mike E, I agree on Murph.
Conforto will be in LF tonight being that Greinke is a right-hander. Cuddyer had a rough night.
Wyo
WTF is Suh doing on that list? He’s playing great . . . It’s just everyone else that isn’t
DISAPPOINTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Conforto is the future. Cuddyer will end being like a Kelly Johnson and Juan Uribe type player, a spot starter, and a bat off the bench.
Ron Darling said when he saw Conforto for the first time in the minors, he reminded him of a young Don Mattingly who did not hit with power in the minors but developed it in time. He said he saw the same confidence and bat.
Mike E
I guess I could have just posted the roster!
Minus Landry, and maybe Jones, J. Cameron
Did I miss anyone on the list of NOT disappointing?

CF Cespedes (R)
1B Duda (L)
3B Wright (R)
LF Conforto (L)
C d’Arnaud (R)

Congrats to Mike E, TIm and other Mets fans on beating Kershaw……that is huge.

Try, a lot of those games against the NL Central was a different Mets team too. But the Pirates still beat us when we were the new Mets. Except for one game they were all close.

Tim — interesting take. I’m letting the Bucs go till next year, but curious how the phrase “season sweep” wasn’t in there. 🙂
I’m well aware. 🙂
I ve got a peaceful queasy feeling
Try not to let us down
Wait what? We’re pitching Syndergaard tonight on the road?

Tim
You didn’t know Syndergaard was going tonight? That was the plan for quite some time, deGrom, Thor, Harvey and Matz
In my earlier lineup I had Harvey and you agreed. LOL
Syndergaard struggles on the road. I thought he was game 3 at home?

Bad news for Georgia. Nick Chubb injures right leg on game’s first play.
Daughter going to her first high school dance. She’s beautiful and doesn’t even know it.
She’ll figure it out soon enough. And you’ll be meeting the guys pulling up into your driveway at the door and sitting them down for the talk. 🙂
Oh I get it now, we’re throwing the left-handed lineup at Greinke. LOL
RF Granderson (L)
2B Murphy (L)
CF Cespedes (R)
1B Duda (L)
3B Wright (R)
LF Conforto (L)

it was pretty gruesome. not as bad as marcus lattimore but his leg did bend in a way legs dont bend. after the first replay cbs refused to replay it again it was so bad.

llook at the response of veterans to the Bowe bergdahl recommendation. These people have not been following the case closely because this is only a recommendation. The VFW I go to is trying to get a march set up like the million man march of veterans. Over 1300 comments in only 25 minutes

I didn’t read everyone else’s comments and someone may have already brought this up but the problem with the team isn’t because they were being held accountable; it was because they weren’t being held accountable.
These guys aren’t giving it everything they have. Campbell basically made it sound like they were just going thru the motions at practice instead of practicing with any type of intensity.
So, I can’t see the coaching staff sitting there and “needling” them about mistakes or anything else for that matter. As a matter of fact, I can see just the opposite. I don’t think they EVER held these guys accountable. Have you ever seen someone on the coaching staff get in a player’s face when he came to the sideline because he fucked up in the game?
How many times did someone commit a penalty when we had a good drive going that resulted in us being taken out of scoring position? It happened a lot and seemed to be the same guys all the time and I didn’t see coaches reaming out the guy when he came to the sideline. That’s what this team needs.
I want to see a guy get treated the way Campbell treated Egnew on the sideline. Coaches need to have some fucking balls.
college football has become such a fucking joke with its ‘targeting’ and ejection rule. talk about away for the refs to control the outcome of a game. wtf, maybe i should just stick with pop warner football if i want to see just a game based on talent and not tv ratings
