WHAT MAKE HULK ANGRY?

incredible-hulk

By Dr. Bruce Banner

Okay so who here think Hulk should be happy? Sure we now have Coach Dan and he seem to be the Anti-Philbin. He no care about gum wrappers on practice field. Hulk think Coach Dan only want to see blood on practice field. Coach Dan make team hit or he look like he would hit team if they no hit. Sure Coach Dan seems to know you need to run ball more than three times a game. Sure Coach Dan seem to figure out that 31 pass attempts and 32 run attempts seems to be a good balance. Sure it seems Coach Dan figure out if Jamil Douglas and Greg Jennings no play well then they should no start. Sure we no have Coach ReCoyle anymore and suddenly we have pass rush that attacks instead of read and reacts. Sure we now have some guy named Saunders and suddenly there is a fullback on the field and we now run ball under center. So what does Hulk have to be angry about?

Hulk angry because it took 4 of the lamest game performances and 3 of the most mediocre, lackluster and uninspiring seasons of football to figure this out. Hulk angry that Phins figure this out after they start in a 1-3 hole with 2 divisional losses essentially dooming team’s playoff chances in flipping September. Hulk angry because owner took so long to see what everyone here saw for long time. Hulk angry because most of things such as run ball more, use fullback, run from under center, have pass rush attack was all things posted here time and time again. We no talking rocket science, we talking basic football that beer and wing football fans everywhere understand. So why Coach Joe no understand that? Why it take just one week to make it so painfully obvious that the beer and wing fans know more football than Coach Joe. It sad day when your team’s fan blog has more insight to football than your team’s head coach. Hulk angry because he can’t let go of all of team’s failures over the past 3 plus years and enjoy one good day of football. Hulk still in pain and can’t let go. Hulk want to believe in all the good he saw on field on Sunday but Hulk can’t do that just yet. Hulk knows if he does the Phins will just rip his green heart out once again and that is what makes Hulk angriest of all is that Hulk no enjoy this win the way he should. Hulk needs to see Phins play consistent, tough and smart football for many more games before Hulk able to change back to Bruce Banner. Until then Hulk stay angry.

LMAO@ “ReCoyle”! I agree Ken, it’s just one game. It’s a catch 22 because if we are sitting at 2-2 right now, then Philbin is still the coach. I think we have dug ourselves too big of a hole to climb out of this season. We need to finish 8-3 to make the playoffs; that’s a lot of games to win in a short span, and we havent done that sinve 2008.

Keeping philbin this year might have been a blessing in disguise, especially if Campbell is able to keep these guys hungry and motivated. We have the talent. He just needs to keep putting his guys in positions to succeed.
I think the best thing about Campbell is that he’s a guy who can evaluate strengths and weaknesses and he know what he doesn’t know so he made sure to rely on guys who do know.
Campbell’s biggest problem now will be in game decision making, especially in close games and against tougher opponents.

  6. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Very good Hulk! I think we all kind of knew they didn’t want to fire Philbin. That’s more a loyalty thing than a not being able to see thing as far as I’m concerned. I think they really wanted Joe to succeed, but it didn’t happen. I think we should be happy. If he waited out the whole season, it would have been torture. Now we get to watch some good football, and root for an outside chance that we can be in the playoffs. One game at a time baby!

SOMEBODY in LAS VEGAS is a believer. The spread on the Texans game opened at Miami favored by 2. But this morning the Fins are favored by 4 and 1/2. –Given our history with this Houston franchise, I’d take a 1 point win on a blown referee’s call!! –But I think CAMPBELL will work his magic again this week against a so-so team.

    HOWIE–HOWIE–HOWIE– 30-13 MIA

Y’all have a great day!! And, yes, Hulk IS RIGHT!! –ROSS IS A DOOFUS for putting up with “Clueless Joe” for as long as he did!

  8. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ken, good write up! I get what you’re saying but we have to move forward. I don’t see the need to keep going back to the first 4 games and Philbin and Co. at this point, it’s over and we start fresh with 1-0 under Campbell and look at the team from here.

    Go Phins!!!

    Go Mets!!!

  9. D's avatar D says:

I think the timing of the firing of Philbin was 100% timed perfectly. I think its important ofr an organization to not be as knee jerk as the fans. Its important to assess the situation and give it time to develop. A lot happens in a coaching change and lots of time the dust has to settle before you realie, yeah this isnt adjustments needed, this isnt working. That time came this year by game 3. We had the perfect transition time to do an in-season change, and we took it, showing that the FO wasnt going to just let shit continue to roll downhill, they were aggressive enough to do something now.

Hindsight makes a lot of things about, we shoulda woulda coulda done things differently seem like no brainers, but ultimately thats fan reaction not business. We dont need to focus on that anymore, its in our past, the decision made will have the outcome its going to have. Right now we just need to keep putting our effort and support behind the new guy and hope it doesnt turn out like the last one or worse. Everything looks good so far, and im hoping that trend continues.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

The time to have made the change was last off season. After 2 consecutive December collapses it was time to move on. Any time you make a coaching change during a season you are essentially tanking the rest of the season. By starting off 1-3 with 2 divisional losses it has placed us in a terrible hole. We are looking at another season where we play our most meaningful football in October and November.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ken, I’m aware of all that. It can’t be changed.

The Mets also couldn’t hit early in the year and were not going to make the playoffs with that team. But some changes were made and now look. You gotta believe. 🙂

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

But Mike E this stuff was blatantly obvious and dumbass Philbin was freaking inflexible in his coaching philosophy and dumbass Ross kept loyal to Philbin and we the fans suffer yet again. It just makes me…..angry!

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

My response above was to Tim. Hulk get confused by too many Met logos

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      Well said.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I disagree. There are some of us here that wanted philbin gone 2 years ago when he lost to the jets at home and didn’t make the playoffs. That’s not hindsight for me. That’s what I wanted.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

But it’s also not your call. Fans call for the firings of coaches all the time when things aren’t going well.

So you wanted Philbin fired after his 2nd season at 8-8?

  10. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

WTF! I agree with D. What’s going on here? 😉

  11. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Ken/Hulk

I got news for ya, I would have fired Joe 2 seasons ago, but it wasn’t going to happen. While I do agree we should have fired him at the end of the season last season, we didn’t, but they still did it in time to save the season.

  12. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ken, my page jumped and I thought you responded to me but it was D. But my post still stands. LOL

Piggy see Hulk’s point and Piggy say to Hulk “nice job”

but Piggy also say “lighten up and Oink”

at least we get to watch a team play with passion
The hole we dug maybe too big
but I want to watch the Dolphins on Sundays
and I didn’t want to watch the Dolphins teams that I saw int he first 4 games
    That was painful

Piggy say to Hulk “we get to enjoy football now, Piggy no worry about chips now, we will see how they fall at the end of the season”

  15. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Look at Piggy’s avi
    Piggy also Super Hero

  16. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I agree KEn. Both this season and last season was on Ross. He should have fired philbin after 2012 season when all he had to do was beat the fuckin jets at home to get into the playoffs and he didn’t.

But we can’t change the past. We won’t be going to no playoffs but at least we’ll have or hope to have competitive season this year with or without playoffs.

  17. D's avatar D says:

Ken i think they were thinking it was player chemistry and player collapse at the heart of it last year. You can tell this because of how they gutted the roster and replaced like 25 players. Im not saying you arent right and it would have been a good time to change then, im saying is business wise they thought they had a different problem (and truthfully they did have that problem too) they just didnt get all of the problem addressed so by game 5 of our season we have corrected it. Is what it is now, but again, i feel definitely was appropriate time to have done it and timed perfectly.

  18. D's avatar D says:

Oh and Tim why take 3 words to make a statement when you can write a paragraph. Thats my motto!

  19. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Having to watch another season with Joe, and the shitty effort from our team would have been much more torturous. I kinow we’d have a better draft pick, but we don’t hit on those anyway, and if we do, they don’t play anyway.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Why do you keep saying that? Tannehill and James started right away as 1st rd pick rookies. We know why Fuckface didn’t and we know why Parker hasn’t, but it’s not like rookies don’t start or play, that’s always been a fallacy.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

There was Fuckface, but there was also Jamar Taylor and Will Davis, and Billy Turner, and now there’s Devante Parker. Whether it’s drafting players with injuries, which in many cases it seems to be, we don’t get enough out of them. Do you disagree with this?

  20. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    tim,
I understand its not my call. None of the shit we write here matters. But as I said some of us wanted philbin gone and some of us didn’t. So saying in hindsight we should have fired him that’s fine. But as I said since my call was the CORRECT call I can say I told you so.

  21. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike E, I’m not going into the every round, I thought you meant 1st rd with the better draft pick comment. Taylor, Davis and Turner weren’t drafted hurt, they got hurt along the way. Jordan and Thomas were drafted off of shoulder injuries.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Taylor had the sports hernia, and I thought Will Davis had a knee problem. Fuckface had the shoulder injury. Parker had the foot injury too.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

With that particular draft, every round is relevant, because that draft should have been a monster, instead, it was a disaster.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don;t think Parker’s foot injury is setting him back
I think Rishard Matthews is keeping him off the fileld

I expected Jennings, the vet to get starts early
and then I thought Parker would slide into more playing time

but Matthews and Stills are ahead of him (and of course Landry)
and reall all 3 have played pretty well this season – very well actually IMO

        Parker is ready to go
we have a good problem though in terms of the WR position

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Taylor’s sports hernia wasn’t suppose to hamper him for long, he ended up with an illness from medication that was fucking up his organs. That’s what killed his rookie season. Davis blew his knee in a game, he was picking off passes in OTAs and camp as a rookie. I mentioned Fuckface’s shoulder injury along with Thomas. Parker was drafted fine and was looking great in OTAs and then we find out that he should probably have that screw dealt with. So yes we’ve had some of that but not as dire as people think.

  22. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    Boulder, yes! LOL

  23. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike E, but you were making a point about finishing up pretty well so we won’t get as good of a draft pick in the 1st, not the entire draft. That’s what I was commenting on.

  24. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Piggy, I agree Parker’s issue now is being the #4 or #5. Campbell said he’s coming along but he still needs to refine some things but expects him to break out during the season because he’s got a lot of talent.

  25. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

Good morning! The Dolphins won. The Herd won. I won at FF. I think I tied for 1st in GDPs pickem. I won $ 60 more on Fanduel. Football is fun again!! 🏈🏈🏈

  26. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Parker not seeing the field much this past week is more a reflection of the fact that Landry is a stud, Matthews is on the rise and Stills is playing well. Also we were committed to running the ball more and throwing less. I expect to see Parker ease his way into the line up more and more but I am not disappointed that he wasn’t on the field more last week because the other guys played so well.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The only reason I’m disappointed is I started Parker in FF out of necessity, got no points while the word on Jeffrey was still questionable but will try to go. Well 147 yards and TD later cost me my game. Fuck!!!!

I agree though, Matthews is starting to resemble a legit top WR. He’s earned it.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

That’s okay in one league I sat Phillip Rivers and played Eli Manning because I thought the matchups were better. SMH.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I bet we see more 2 TE sets as well. Parker will get his chance at some point.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Agreed. Overall not a bad problem to have when you have so many skill players fighting for time.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think Sims is huge for our offense. He’s a good blocker and underrated receiver. Cameron has said Sims is overlooked and he’s a lot better athlete than people think. Also that he’s a monster.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Sims would have been my candidate for breakout player this year but we really didn’t do that this year. His breakout season seems to have been sidetracked by the concussion. He seems to be getting back on track last week.

    ——————————————
I still won this week and i also started Parker lol. I could have started Golden Tate instead so it wasn’t fully out of necessity, it was more gamble that Campbell might use him more, and Tate hadn’t been getting shit for points previously anyways. Well Stafford finally wakes up and Tate finally has a double digit point game, it happens. I still won, but it was closer than i wanted. Eddie Lacy also had next to nothing for me. I got big game from Miller though, he was a choice as well, but i felt good about Campbell running a lot. I had Bernard i could have started and he was pretty decent, wish i had put him in over Lacy.

  30. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

OK, so Matthews is on the rise, we trade for Stills, and we already had Landry, so why draft a WR in the 1st instead of an OT/OG, CB, or LB?

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

We no know Matthews on rise until TC but otherwise Hulk agree with your point. Hulk out. Peace.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

He’s been on the team for 3 years, and he’s always flashed talent. I think he finally got his head on straight, and decided to mature.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I have no problem having 4 talented WRs. Matthews will be a UFA next year and Stills the year after that. Then Landry is going to want to be paid. in a couple of years. Jennings may also not be here next year. So it’s actually set up quite well.

I had $ 15 at stake and won 75 so a net of 60. At one point early in the second quarter I looked and I was in 4th place and winning 1500. It didn’t hold up of course but it makes for some excitement for this old girl ! 😀

    *****************
that happened to me once last year
It was the 1st qtr and I was in like 2nd place and was going to win $8k or something
but then by halftime i was winning $20 or something
    I think I ended up winning $50

    but I learned my lesson
check how you are doing at the end of games not early

I’ve been playing afternoon only leagues lately

this week I played Sunday night and Monday night games only – so there were only 4 teams to pick from
and I prefer to play the ones with less teams to pick from

I think it increases my odds of winning

but I haven;t been able to win big yet
    😦

  32. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I don’t think we can afford to re-sign mathews next year. He’s gonna demand some serious cash at this rate.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Very possible. He’s still young and now experienced. When you look at it, every year one of our WRs will be a UFA.
      2016 Matthews
      2017 Stills
      2018 Landry

So having Parker is good for the foreseeable future and he will become a feature guy at some point.

      • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

yup. I think they want parker and landry as our 2 main receivers. But I really hate to see mathews go. However he is playing for a contract. I remember Hartline playing out of this world in his contract year. Once we resigned him he dropped off.

  33. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I know there was some discussion about Grimes’ pick maybe not being one. I saw the replay and saw nothing that would make that not a pick.

  34. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

The fact that we’ve never beat the texans should be motivation enough this week for the phins to go out and beat the texans in front of their home crowd.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m sure the team has been reminded of it if they weren’t all thinking about it. It’s also a home game and we haven’t won a home game yet. It’s also an AFC game and we need to start winning some of those. This is a very important game.

  35. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Boulder, let’s hope our WRs continue to ball and help us win games and we’ll worry about FA when the time comes. I do not think this team will lay down from here on out. It doesn’t mean they won’t lose games, but I do think effort will be there.

  36. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m not worried about re-signing Matthews. Let him kill it this year, we’ll worry about him at the end of the season. I do worry about these guys that play hard in their contract years.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Not sure we can say that about Matthews though because he’s played well before but has been given limited opportunities at times. This year he’s been given many more snaps and is playing really well. I like our skill players at the moment. We have a lot of options. When Parker starts to get more opportunities, we get even better.

If I remember correctly, Matthews was in the doghouse a lot last year. He either missed practices or wasn’t paying attention, but for the most part was a bad soldier.

  40. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Piggy

It wasn’t under the radar, it was out there. He had 41 catches in ’13, and 12 catches in ’14, and we didn’t exactly have tons of talent at WR last year.

  41. D's avatar D says:

I like any player that can take adversity and turn it to opportunity, especially if finding the adversity means that player looks inside themselves and realizing their part in the problem. Being man enough to admit your faults and work to improve who you are, is a big sign of maturity and a big sign you will be able to handle what life throws at ya. You have your sphere of control, you work your best at controlling it and let the rest of the stuff fall as it may. Big ups to Matthews for getting wiser. Talent always has been there, now he finally is getting out of his own way to be successful.

  42. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    D

I’d like him even more if he didn’t do it in his contract year. I think it’s pretty selfish, and he did want to be traded as well. In any case, we should ride him now for as long as we can, until he’s a FA, and then we’ll take it from there.

  43. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I think Matthews realized he wasn’t going to be traded due to the affordability of his contract and he knew his only way to make something happen was to buckle down and ball out so he could have a big contract year. He was probably getting some bad advice from other malcontents on the team.

Yes, good point Tim. It does nothing but create more separatism and self absorption.
Pride always comes before the fall.

  45. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

This is the official rule on receptions in the NFL:

“If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.”
Basically what that means is if a player goes to the ground while in the process of making a catch, he must control the ball all the way through until his momentum from the fall ends. If at any point before his momentum stops he loses control of the ball and it touches the ground, the pass is incomplete.
    —————-
Grimes was in the air, comes down to the ground and rolls over from the momentum of the catch. As he’s rolling over he clearly does not have control of the ball and the Tenn. player takes it. This is exactly what the rule refers to in regards to control. The only way Grimes has an interception is if the rule doesn’t apply to someone TAKING the ball while in the process of going to the ground. The rule is specific to the ball hitting the ground so I guess it’s possible down by contact rule applies if the ball doesn’t touch the ground but IMO that doesn’t make a lot of sense.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I didn’t see it like that it all. It all looked clean to me.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

As he rolls over you don’t see the ball moving and not in his control? If that’s the case, then I totally understand your view. My whole argument is based on the fact he didn’t have control as he rolls over.

How are you saying that these were rumors, the guy was benched the last 2 games, and barely played last year 100% HEALTHY? 13 catches the whole year! C’mon man, give it a rest! He’s playing well now, but that doesn’t change what he did last year.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Jones made one of the biggest plays in Sunday’s 38-10 blowout win over the Tennessee Titans. His 30-yard pick six off rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota in the third quarter gave Miami a three-touchdown lead and helped close out the team’s second win of the season.

“Preparation met opportunity,” Jones said of the interception. “I studied film all week. Once I saw a certain formation, I knew the ball should be coming on a slant. I took advantage and I got it in the end zone.”

Jones also had eight tackles in the game to give him a team-high 41 stops on the season. For the past two seasons, Jones has quietly played at a Pro Bowl level. But Jones doesn’t get much recognition playing for a mediocre team and alongside other bigger names on defense such as Cameron Wake, Brent Grimes and Ndamukong Suh.

Dolphins interim coach Dan Campbell said he doesn’t see why Jones can’t make the Pro Bowl this year playing at his current level. Campbell won his first game as head coach Sunday and infused energy and intensity to this previously listless team.

“I think it’s something that’s overblown,” Wake said of the controversy.

But Wake wasn’t done addressing the issue of protection of quarterbacks vs. other players. After acknowledging that QBs are often in defenseless positions, Wake wondered why players at other positions (such as defensive ends) aren’t receiving the same kind of concern from those who formulate NFL rules.

“We get cut-blocked, all those kind of things that happen to us, I mean, our knees are just as important as any quarterback’s knees,” Wake said. “Our families are supported by us and the things that we do. We care about our well-being and our health just as much as a quarterback. I don’t feel like obviously those same considerations are being made to defenders around the league. … I don’t care if you play cornerback, kicker, wide receiver, we’re all in this game trying to stay healthy and play the next week.”

  76. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Guys, it wasn’t “fully” reviewed. All turnovers and score are “looked at” to determine if it needs to be reviewed. It was deemed not needing to be reviewed by the guys upstairs. That is another part of where I have a problem. In my mind it was definitely close and should have been reviewed but they didn’t even send it to review. Upstairs they said, “nope, it’s good”. The Titans also felt it needed to be reviewed which is why they threw the flag. I think their intention was to give the guys upstairs a longer look but it was to no avail.

The whole premise that the upstairs review proves anything is silly to begin with. We see things get missed all the time. Heck, in that game the officials got another of our reviews wrong even when they actually DID review it. Even ex-official Carey thought our Miller TD should have been called back because he didn’t break the plane.

I laid out clear reasoning to my logic supported by an excerpt from the rules. Using the “guy upstairs looked at it” rebuttal doesn’t mean anything in this argument unless you’re saying he’s infallible.

If you disagree as to what happened on the field, that’s cool. It looked pretty clear to me the ball was moving as he rolled over. I can do this all day, but I am perfectly happy to let it go, lmao.

I think the next three blog entries should be about the mechanics of that play, the rules that go into determining the outcome, and the review process. It’s the only way to be absolutely sure. 😉

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

The “look at it” that you describe is a review. They had ample opportunity to look at it and were satisfied it was an interception and down by contact. I don’t know what you mean that they didn’t fully review. They saw nothing in their estimation that warranted another look. To me it looked pretty clear that it was an int and then down by contact and they guy swiped the ball after he was down by contact. The league had plenty of time to look at it and if they thought otherwise they would have overturned and or taken a full review whatever that is.

On the Miller TD. I agree that was a questionable call. On full speed I thought it was a TD. On review it looked like the ball was just short of the goal when his knee went down. I was surprised that one was not reversed.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

“The league had plenty of time to look at it and if they thought otherwise they would have overturned and or taken a full review whatever that is.”

This is pure fallacy. You’re using the infallible argument again when we’ve all seen mistakes on plays that should have been called for review and weren’t. My whole argument is they made a mistake. Additionally, the booth review is not as in-depth as a review by the game official. If it was, they could just call down “reversed” or “upheld”.

Again, if you think the ball wasn’t moving as he turned over before the guy easily took it from him, then I fully respect that position. To me the ball was moving as he rolled over which is why the Tenn guy took it so easily and it should have been reviewed on the field.

  77. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Mike, I think I’ve vaguely heard of that show. I like Boomer’s forthrightness even if he’s kind of a jerk sometimes. I think at that level the best of the best take that exact mentality.

  78. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    …from Mando @ MH:

Left guard Dallas Thomas was good in some respects. And not so good in others. Sunday was typical in that he was pretty good on his run blocking. According to ProFootballFocus his run blocking grade was better than his pass blocking grade for the fifth straight game this season. Miami has only played five games.

The perfect illustration of that was a block he made on a right off tackle run by Lamar Miller in which Thomas pulled and swallowed up a Tennessee linebacker to spring Miller for 13 yards. The kid looked like a beast on the play.

The illustration of his pass blocking deficiencies is that he failed to recognize — or recognized too late — a stunt up front and the Tennessee pass rusher steamed right past Thomas as he was trying to engage a defensive lineman who was already blocked. That caused a sack of Ryan Tannehill.

    So, some good. Some bad.

Billy Turner made his first start and it seemed to be an upgrade over what Jamil Douglas previously offered.

On one player, Turner pulled right with center Mike Pouncey on one play and the escort looked about as intimidating and well aligned as a pulling guard and center combo can look. The play gained 22 yards. Excellent by both linemen. Turner, by the way, had a very good game for his first NFL start.

    No, wait.

Turner had a very good game. Period.

Miller, meanwhile, ran with as much authority as he has at any point in his Miami career. Obviously, he got the message that coaches wanted him being decisive and getting all the yards possible, plus perhaps a couple of more on effort. There was no chop-stepping by Miller in this game.

According to PFF, Miller gained 78 of his 113 yards running right.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah because he had two big runs to the right which is typically the strong side you dumb fucks!!!. This PFF stuff is getting so annoying I wish the place would blow up. LOL

  79. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Incidentally, I think it’s a stupid rule that the coaches can’t use their challenge on a play that’s “looked at” by the guy upstairs and deemed not review worthy, whether on a scoring play, a TO, or the last 2 minutes. Teams only get two challenges, why not let them decide to make the refs take a closer look regardless of what the booth guy says? Combine the two process’ and you get better integrity.

    • D's avatar D says:

Because it would be redundant for them to look at the same play for the same angles with the same features (zoom, etc) and expect a different result. I mean ure im ok with letting a dumbass waste a timeout but a call that gets reviewed close enough to make a ruling once with as much time as they generally spend reviewing, shouldnt be then overturned by the exact same kind of detailed review. Should the other coach be able to then throw his flag and ask for a review of the review of the review? It gets kinda silly.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

        D,
By that logic all reviews that are initiated by a booth review shouldn’t be reviewed on the field at all or if they are, those calls should all be overturned. (this is kind of an extension of my other argument) If a booth review already knows the answer why aren’t all reviews initiated by the booth overturned? It’s because the booth takes a look and determines if it is close enough to review. If they think there is something there, then the onfield official takes an in-depth review. Sometimes the booth gets it wrong they do not initiate a review when they should. We’ve all seen this happen.

I just think the coach should have the opportunity to force an onfield review. They only get two reviews anyway.

  80. D's avatar D says:

“Miller, meanwhile, ran with as much authority as he has at any point in his Miami career. Obviously, he got the message that coaches wanted him being decisive and getting all the yards possible, plus perhaps a couple of more on effort. There was no chop-stepping by Miller in this game.”

    ————–
This is the type of running i was referring to earlier in the year when i was being so hard on Miller. Miller is a lot better north-south runner than even he gives himself credit for, and he was just not lowering his shoulder making a cut and then hitting the hole like he did last game. Last game was exactly the kind of game i was hoping to see out of him, part of it was better run design, but a lot of it was him being decisive and aggressive.

  81. D's avatar D says:

Miller call to me was an unable to reverse it thing. His hand covered the tip of the ball, the tip of the ball if in the front part of his hand means that the tip of it looked like it did break the plane, if the tip of the ball was more in the heel of his hand, its probably didnt, but you really couldnt make out where the tip of the ball was. I could see how it could have been overturned and i can see why it was upheld, it was really too close to be able to reverse by the rules of review.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I thought he was far enough over and that’s why it was a TD. LOL

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Actually, I concede this one. Because to be honest I used this same argument to my wife, lol. The tip of the ball is hidden so even though you can project where it is and it appears to be well short, since you can’t see it I would have had the call stand as well. Mike Carey would have overturned it. Just another example of two people seeing it differently.

  82. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    …more from Mando:

Linebacker Koa Misi continues to have a quiet but very good season. He’s PFF’s seventh-rated outside linebacker and last week was his third best game of the season.

The Dolphins continue to give rookie Zach Vigil some snaps at middle linebacker. But Kelvin Sheppard remains the starter and continues to get the brunt of the action. Sheppard got 24 snaps this game to Vigil’s 10 snaps.

What is interesting is that previously, Vigil got more run snaps than pass snaps in every single game. This game he got 10 snaps on pass plays. And zero on run plays, per PFF. Sheppard split his snaps on runs and passes.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, meanwhile, continues to puzzle. It’s not that he’s playing poorly. He’s been at the same level for the last three games now after starting slow the first two weeks of the season. And that level is solid. Good, even.

But there is nothing explosive or dynamic about his play.

Suh’s highlights this game were two batted passes he got at or near the line of scrimmage. On one, he read Marcus Mariota’s eyes, got in the pass lane and slapped the pass away. Issue here? It was obviously a pass play and he got no push on the pocket. So good that he did the next best thing in breaking up the pass. But, again, no push on the pass pocket.

On another play in which he affected the pass, Suh seemed to drop off the line of scrimmage and into a coverage. I don’t know if he did this by design or by instinct but it worked. It affected the play.

Suh is the No. 14 rated interior lineman, per the PFF metrics.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Suh also would have had a sack if Wake didn’t beat him to it. Instead he ended up flying over Mariota’s head as Wake took him down.

      • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I’m not concerned with Suh racking up sacks…just want him collapsing the pocket, QB hits, QB hurries, force fumbles, and opening gaps/occupying blockers for our other defenders to make plays.

I honestly don’t get what you are saying on this Kong. My understanding is that all turnovers are subject to a review from an official located in the league office in New York. If he thinks there is grounds for a possible error in the call he then notifies an official at the stadium to do a booth review. In what I meant that they had enough time is that the official in New York had plenty of time to decide if there were grounds for a booth review. He obviously did not feel that there were grounds to find that the call was in error.

      Ken,
My point is, you’re saying the fact they didn’t call for an on-field review is proof the call was right. I’m saying they are not infallible and there have been calls in the past that should have been reviewed on the field that were not (and IMO this is another in that category). They take a look and if they feel it’s worth a real review, they buzz down for the game official to take a longer, closer look at it. Part of my argument is it should have been reviewed on the field. I would have loved to seen this from different angles but without the review we didn’t get that.

Piggy, Misi is tied for 2nd in tackles with Jenkins at 37 behind Jones at 41. He also has 4 tackles for a loss.

    Cavalier,
I’ve always wondered the same thing. They give teams TIMEOUTS, 3, and only 3 to use WHENEVER they want. The same should be for challenges. That coaches are UNABLE to challenge something under 2 minutes or whatever it is, is about as asinine as not allowing them to use TIMEOUTS during specific portions of the game. Sometimes the booth conveniently ignores reviewing a close play aka like the one in Buffalo last year.

Well the NFL isn’t exactly awesome running their game anymore. Last night’s game though poorly played was another example of too many calls that make it unwatchable. My daughter’s friend and I said that in the 2nd quarter. It’s like the officials playing chess with both teams and they decide the outcome.

I was saying the same to my girl…I was like, this is getting sickening with the flags after almost every single play.
Ruins the flow and concept of the game itself.

Sure, throw the flag for ‘Very Blatant’ fouls, but whenever it’s questionable or close….then error on the side on CONTACT, that this is football, a contact game…let the players decide to outcome, not the refs.

Exactly. Thank you for the example! I’ve been wracking my brain trying to remember one that wasn’t reviewed and should have been, but have been coming up blank, lol.

Regarding the OL talent, if they run block way better than they pass protect, at this point the play calling should be tilted in this manner. The use of TE in the receiving game was expanded vs the titans which is also a good thing considering we are seeing record usage of TE in the NFL in the passing game.

Because Sims was back. Campbell said they were doing that against WAS but when he went down they cut those plays out of the playbook.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

doesn’t that seem sort of dramatic o you?…,cutting it out of the playbook bc of one guy’s injury

        I like sims a lot
I actually think Sims and Albert together might have been the biggest difference makers
Our team is much better at run blocking with those 2 on the filed
