Applying a safety to the side of Beckham is how you double him off.
One guy plays the low space, the other plays the high space.
Of course, the offensive adjustment is to put Beckham in motion and in the slot so the LB gets roasted in the scheme LOL.
Teams have been doing that and Beckham has been beating that coverage as well. I still think the best way to neutralize him is by pass rush. Don’t give Manning the time to hit him deep. We failed at that miserably. I am not saying don’t put the safety over him but success is far from guaranteed on that alone.
I was disappointed with how the DC adjusted in the 2nd half.
Once it became apparent that the Fins weren’t doing anything to disrupt Manning’s rythm, they should have just gone all out blitz without concern to a big play.
That’s a bingo.
Wake cut unless he really shows a fast recovery & restructures.

I am not a huge OV fan. I think I would re-sign Miller over him as well and look to draft a DE early.
I had flashbacks to 2 things during the MNF game:
1: the 84 yard TD by OB was reminiscent of Wes Welker’s 99 yard TD in Miami 4 years ago. Reshad Jones 4 years ago tried to jump the route (instead of play ‘safety’) and wiffed on the INT attempt leaving 1 on 1 with the CB who was trailing on the play. Jones guessed wrong vs OB on MNF and it ended up going for 6 instead of maybe just a big gain.
2: Eli’s brothers performance when the Colts beat Fins in Miami on a night game 27-23 despite only having the ball for 15 minutes 😦

That may be so (OD performing through doubles) but Eli’s reads to OB over the top seem to have come in 1 on 1s. Miami was able to get lucky only once on the Offensive PI call. The 84 yard TD was a blown assignment by the S. That play probably still would have gone for 25 yards though if played properly.
Not really debating, certainly a better strategy than what we did. My biggest gripe and much as you noted above was the absolute failure to mount any kind of pass rush. To me that is the key to disrupting the deep passing game.
According to Hyde, the draft order right now. Goes against my grain, but losing is not necessarily all that bad a thing going forward.

Ken Cameron doesn’t blow. He’s made some nice plays for us. Stretch TE’s & RZ threats are hard to find and take a while to groom.
He stayed healthy. Keep him until you groom someone worthy unlike Sims!
Mitchell is solid. He doesn’t suck. He’s made plays, he’s eaten blockers. He’s looked down this year cause the Coyle install is bunk! …and Phillips needs several blows to remain effective in rotation…IMO.
I disagree with you on both. Cameron has been almost invisible. Mitchell is one of the lowest rated DTs in PFF.
You’re not judging by what they can bring to the table, you’re judging by the results of 2 majorly flawed systems. Our coordinators sucked!
I don’t know how you can say Mitchell has eaten up blockers. We are the 32nd run defense in the league. The only thing being eaten up is our D. Mitchell is horrible.
That’s fair- you can’t adequately judge Mitchell or Cameron if you can’t judge Tannehill because the rest of the team sucks.

Every time the Giants made a big play we could hear their fans on the TV not so much on our big plays. But then again it’s like that when the Jets, Patriots, Bills, Ravens are in town too.
Not many of us original Fans left down there and most the younger crowd now is from Brasil and all those other Soccer countries
Howie — don’t see much Hispanic influence in the stadium, even if they tried with J-Lo…….but that may be part of the problem with winning the local market.

Cameron was a proven commodity several years and concussions ago. He is not the same player he was. Mitchell had a nice run with the Texans but he has done squat in 2 seasons for us now. Yes the coordinators blow but so does Mitchell. He is just not that good and he is not eating up blockers at all. The only guy on the DL doing that on the DL is Suh which is why Mitchell is even more disappointing because he is getting single blocked almost all the time and still makes no impact on the game.
Suh is hardly standing out either, maybe a play here & there. Mitchell has been battling a nagging injury too. But he was real solid for us last year.
My whole point on both is that you can’t be too quick to just cut those 2 when there isn’t much behind them, especially @ TE.
Yes we have Phillips @ DT, but he’s not going to be a guy that can grind a whole game….IMO. Francis was already cut, not much depth @ DT. So ya keep them both another year until you develop their replacements, hopefully thru the draft.
Suh has actually been playing very well of late. He and Jones. No one else.

If he is chasing plays from behind that is a problem. His job is to occupy blockers. If he is chasing he is not occupying and that means he is getting lost in space. Danger Will Robinson.
DL do not always make the stop at the LOS. Many DL give up once the play is behind them. Mitchel never stops playing.
Actually Barnidge is in his 7th season and had just 3 TD’s his previous 6 seasons. Maybe we should look for more 30+ yo TE’s that no one else wants. They’re ready to break out man. 😉

My brother-in-law traded me to another Dolphins group with one Giants fan who was Hispanic so there were no enemies within the groups. LOL
For sure a bunch of Hispanics come to the game……..but you have to realize how Latino heavy South Florida is. Huge areas of Miami (the only real big city down here) where Spanish is the first language. Interesting how you said “young” though. Might be the 2nd generation of Latinos (or maybe Latinas) are turning into to Phin Phans.

Ken that doesn’t make sense. If he’s to be occupying blockers then it’s hard to come off & make the stop in the gap. That’s where the LB or S should be, filling the gap.
I don’t think Mitchell blows either. In Texas he was a 3-4 NT; in Miami he hasn’t been as effective as I had hoped as a 4-3 DT shooting gaps but I feel his contract is at or below market value for his age/experience. As to his performance in the Giants game, he missed the 2nd half of the Giants game with a calf injury only playing the 1st half.
I paid close attention to the Fins LB in this game; they failed as a unit. Misi got a couple nice stops but Sheppard and Jenkins struggled. I don’t get why they bother going with Jenkins when it’s obvious he’s not 100%. I’d rather roll with Vigil who’s 100% and take my chances that the volume of his plays will be better than an injured player.
I think it was Sheppard coming in on a run blitz during Jennings longest run of the game; he basically tried to squeeze through one of the DT instead of driving into the gap and he was wiped out by his blocker and the hole was wide open.
Mitchell was already banged heading into the game. He was out last week. Jenkins has an ankle injury that won’t go away – he’s had it for weeks. He’s not moving 100% at all.
The LB unit also fell for a couple play action passes.
The LB unit really upsets me because they really have bad anticipation skills at times.
Misi is the only one that looks like he’s got the good instincts you want (e.g. when a screen is coming his way, he doesn’t try and pussy foot through the scheme, he rams through without any regard to what the blockers are going to do). The other guys? They wait for something to happen before moving from their spots instead of moving first and forcing their guys to overcommit.
Stanger, when I said young Hispanics we’re talking in their 20s. They all spoke English fine, no accents so they are definitely a new generation of football fans born in America.

It’s frustrating to see the coaches keep Vigil on the sidelines. He made a couple bad mistakes vs the Cowboys when he got a good amount of snaps but now he’s not getting crap and the coaches keep going with Jenkins who’s struggling with an injury? pisses me off.
It took the coaches 3 weeks to finally put Bobby McCain into meaningful snaps (due to benching Taylor) after he had a very solid start in place of Grimes in Philadelphia against PHL best WR.
I feel they need to just roll with Vigil on the outside the rest of the way if Jenkins isn’t 100%.
Now they should definitely play young guys more. We’re friggin 5-8.

My point was, Wilson plays behind a pretty bad OL, and he still makes plays when called on to do so. All that other stuff about great defense, balanced attack is just excuses. When Wilson is running for his life under heavy pressure, he makes plays. I’m just tired of all the excuses for Tannehill. Sack up and make plays when they’re there to be made. And ya know what, it’s okay to make plays even when everything around you isn’t perfect. Tannehill just doesn’t do that consistently. Eli was playing behind a makeshift OL, but he still made plays…and he didn’t need a great defense or running game to do it.
We lost 31-24. Both offenses made plays. Our defense was worse.
Also we ran the ball well once again and once again we went away from it. It’s maddening!

OV has had a pretty solid year, where no one else on this defense has really done anything. I’m sure it has a lot to do with it being a contract year, but he’s been a bright spot on this defense. He’s had a ton of QB hits and hurries.
I don’t think he’s worth that $8-10M per range. He doesn’t really change games. I’m tired of paying players who don’t do that. That said I’m not signing the checks.

Wilson very rarely is called on to do what you say he does. His defense always had his team in the game, so there’s rarely a situation where he has to put the team on his back or make plays. His team is 1000X better than the shit we have here, so the comparison is weak to me. That’s how i feel. Our coaches are a joke, our game plans are a joke, and that’s why we suck, not because Tannehill isn’t making plays.

Denver & Seattle both addressed the positions AROUND the QB first then added the QB last in building their current franchises.
The Fins have yet to put anything complete on D or O.

If you remember, Bevel was OC of the Vikings prior to his time in Seattle. He was the OC for the Vikings NFC title run (Vikes scored 470 pts that year) that ended short in NOLA in what is now known as the bounty gate game lol.

True, but Quinn was only a unit coordinator (DC) for 2 seasons (both in Seattle). I don’t know how much of scheming he was responsible for considering Pete Carroll was a successful DC himself throughout his career. Quinn never lasted more than 2 years at any job he ever held prior to Atlanta …Wouldn’t it be funny if he doesn’t make it past next year and that holds true? LOL.

I have a “I WOULD NEVER TRADE A PICK ABOVE ROUND 5 FOR A COACH” policy.
My plan B for Miami if no decent candidate is available is to keep Campbell around until such candidate becomes available. If Campbell proves his worth by then, he stays, if he doesn’t then the candidate in question will replace him.
There are very few guys I’d consider right now for Miami.
Bevel, Payton, Shanahan and that’s about it almost…couple other guys maybe

If his name wasn’t Shula he wouldn’t even be mentioned. The Panthers offense goes through Cam doing special things, it’s not a great offense. He’s a unique player. He can look bad, ordinary or super human. This year more the latter.

Cam has praised Shula for his development as a pro QB.
Shula was his QB coach, now OC. He got with Rivera and changed the offensive approach last year that suited Cam’s abilities more, plus helped improve Cam as a pocket passer as well.
The run started last year and is now what 16 straight reg season wins.
Mike Shula has put in the time and is now ready, regardless of his name…IMO.

Cam is also a unique specimen when things break down he will start taking the ball himself. You can do that when you’re 6-5 250 and can run.

FWIW, I think Mike Sherman as OC could have done the same thing in Carolina right now with that personnel.
I just don’t see how you can give credit to Mike Shula while not explaining how Cam Newton’s numbers went down from YR 1 to YR 2 as a starter and then again from YR 3 to YR 4 as a starter.
There was a big boost in YR 3 from YR 2 but that coincided with Ron Rivera hiring.
Otherwise, you see a QB who’s numbers as a passer have fluctuated YR to YR.
Ryan Tannehill has had a better plot from YR 1 to 4 than Cam as a passer.
Al, does help to have good healthy personnel for the coaches to work with as well.
It’s like a perfect storm coming together of both players & coaching for an NFL team to make a championship run.
Al, if Cam finally figured it out then I guess owners are wasting a lot of money on coaches. You don’t need them. 😉

The same logic that goes into player selection goes into coaching selection (don’t ignore red flags).
Just because one type of guy burned you in the past doesn’t mean the next guy is going to do the same. The process in the coaching hire is what needs refinement.
Let’s analyze this since the Shula era ended:
Jimmy Johnson’s time in Miami was his 2nd HC job (first with Dallas)
Quit after 4 years but left a very good defense in place even if offense was BLAH
Dave Wannstedt’s time in Miami was his 2nd HC job (first with Chicago)
Was recommended by JJ and that seemed good enough for the owner (stupid to just go with what the outgoing coach recommended)
Nick Saban’s time in Miami was his 1st NFL HC job
He was given GM & coaching duties; made crappy draft picks then quit on the team
Cam Cameron’s time in Miami was his 1st NFL HC job
Hired fresh off a playoff choke vs NE; red flag ignored. Happened to him in Baltimore except Harbaugh didn’t wait for him to choke in the playoffs and fired him in December. BAL won the SB that year.
Tony Sparano’s time in Miami was his 1st NFL HC job
Hand picked by Parcells without any competitive process in place. FAIL
Joe Philbin’s time in Miami was his 1st NFL HC job
There was a process to hire Philbin but a key component in hiring any 1st TIME COACH is their abilities as a signal caller on DEFENSE or OFFENSE (skin in the game; decisions in real time on scheme and chance)
For every ‘experienced’ 2nd time or 3rd time coach you can point out to me, I can find you a successful 1st time coach still sitting on his first time full HC job hire.

Jimmy Johnson was proven when we got him though. All I’m saying is we haven’t hit on the 1st time coach. How about trying a guy who has proven to be competent. That’s all.
As bad as it got under Wannstedt he was a HC in CHI before us and he did keep getting the team into the playoffs his first 2 years and that was with Jay Fiedler – a tough as nails QB but not a highly skilled guy as a thrower.
Mancampbell is competent. If you say he’s mot you better run faster than Mike E. 😉

Plenty of them where my friends growing up but for some reason they just arent into Football.

One guy did sit in front of me with his buddy when I had my seats but I really would only see 3 or 4 at every game and us long time originals have mostly moved away to places like Orlando and South Carolina

i think the coach search should be based on one factor. we all no that no matter who they get is going to suck and be a failure so the search should be based on the hotness of his wife. give us something to look at.
if people are worried about fan support at the stadium, there is an old ancient chinese secret how to get fan support at home. it is a secret but i will go ahead and say it. fucking win. i know, shocking huh. but it goes with ever team and every sport, put a winner on the field and the fans will support it at home.

Although he was born in NJ my wifes little brother is a pretty big Fan. He’s been here since he was like 13 and his father doesnt watch sports at all. He is like 33-35 now.
Perhaps it was me taking him to some games when he was young and even sending him my TIX when I couldnt make it down 🙂
GD, I like Campbell and think he could do it if he can have an offseason to hire his own staff and start fresh. I just don’t think that’s gonna happen. I would not be opposed to it. If we go outside I want an experienced HC. If we go first time HC I’d continue with Campbell.

By the way it was a close game all night and still very little rooting from the fans. We know the Dolphins aren’t good this year but in the moment of a competitive game root the team on. If not what’s the point of going, to be annoyed?
TIM; I DO root for the Dolphins when I go to the games (ask Young Stanger if you don’t believe me). The lack of passion for the FINS is squarely the fault of Ross’s horrendous decisions. He has sapped the life blood out of this franchise. WHAT A DIFFERENCE between the intensity of the Orange Bowl and Sun-Baked Stadium, which has become a mausoleum during the reign of Ross!

One big factor that has barely been mentioned is the fact that SEVERAL BIG NAMES (Harbaugh,Fisher, perhaps others) have flat-out refused to work for Ross IF IT MEANS taking orders from some God-damned DOOFUS like Ireland, Tannenbaum or, God forbid, King Carl!! IF Ross REALLY WANTS TO GET THE BEST GUY FOR THE JOB, he should immediately jettison the “DOOFUS BRIGADE” and allow prospective candidates to choose their own GM. ROSS’s REFUSAL to get rid of the proven FAILURES ON HIS STAFF OF ADVISORS is a MAJOR IMPEDIMENT TO PROGRESS!! –IF Ross believes Sean Peyton or some other Super Bowl winning coach is going to take orders from a “DOOFUS”, well, Ross is sadly mistaken if he believes that!! THESE ARE the $1,000-$5,000 per ticket per game seats that Ross’s people were SOLD OUT for EVERY GAME!! – – As GDP might say, “I’m calling BULLSHIT on Ross on that one!! When the Dolphin players look behind their bench into the stands, THEY SEE EMPTY SEATS BETWEEN THE 30’S!!! INDEED, the Ravens’ game that YS and I attended featured no more than about 60% of all the seats occupied, NOT COUNTING THE HIGH-PRICED SEATS DOWNSTAIRS WHICH WERE MOSTLY VACANT!! My love of the Fins vastly predates Ross. And it will postdate Ross, too!! –As far as horrible owners in Tampa Bay, well, I’m a “305” kind of guy. I have virtually NO interest in the YUCS or the RAYS. But I have enjoyed my time at Lightning games, perhaps partly due to my Canadian background.

I really don’t even know what Ross should do at this point. It’s not like we have no talent and nobody knows how to coach. But I’m starting to think many of you were right that we have too many chefs in the kitchen from different places assembled by Ross and that’s now how football operations work. If Tannenbaum is the football czar let him pick his people or move on and start over. I think it starts there. This is the offseason to make those choices.
I won’t have a problem with Tannenbaum and Campbell or some new HC he believes in. But there needs to be a connection and right now it’s not like that. Ireland, Philbin, Hickey and Tannenbaum were never hired together. Ireland was there when Philbin was hired and Ross made that call. That was never a good match. Then Hickey and Tannenbaum in that order but the power is reversed.
Maybe Ross did make a mistake but remember this team was bad when he inherited it and he’s only been an active owner for 5-6 years (2010-2015). He’s not responsible for the years from 2003 until 2009 when the team went downhill and never found stability. Like we all say, 2008 was an aberration.
Now’s the time for him to correct all of that though and figure out a way how to build a winner. That said it doesn’t mean that Tannenbaum doesn’t think Hickey is a good personnel man. That can work too. But the entire org was disconnected during the ride. Too many outside changes. No plan from day one and building on a vision from the top other than just saying we want to win.
This is the 7th consecutive NON-WINNING SEASON for Ross (breaking the old record of 6 which he set last season). In Robbie’s 6th year of ownership, his team went to the Super Bowl. In his 7th year the Dolphins achieved football immortality with THE PERFECT SEASON!! –DON’T EXPECT PERFECTION IN YEAR 7. But a winning season would be nice.

Yes but not his team the day he bought in, then he became majority owner in 09 but Parcells was still the football czar into 2010.
I always get the feeling Ross is blamed for like 10 years of losing when he really just got started the last 5 years. He’s hired one HC in Philbin. That’s where we are in 2015. I don’t care about the past from that standpoint, it makes no sense.

well i do. and contrary to what you think, ross is far from a horrible owner. i have seen horrible owners. at least ross will make changes and investments in the team to try and make him winners. so all i can say is careful what you wish for, there are far worse owners out there.
OD, about cheering for the team I was replying to FFR, not you. I was talking about the passion of the fans that night. I felt it was lame. I was standing by myself in section 302 up a ways waving my arms up in the air and yelling DEFENSE… DEFENSE… DEFENSE!!!! I got a lackluster response. No debating it, that’s what happened. The crowd was a dud on important downs. It was what it was.

let me explain a bit more the ‘foolish’ comment. those that cheer every first down or sack like it is a game winner. jumping up and down slapping hands with everything in site i dont get. it is one play, i didnt go to a game for one play i went for a win, i will be happy to slap hands after they win

That was my experience. My brother-in-law saw it. He said, dude a 3rd of the crowd are Giants fans! I guess so, there were a lot of them. The Giants were also 5-7 heading into that game – I know division still an option, but what’s going on in Miami? There’s a negative vibe in our locker room. Almost impossible to shake when you lose again. It sucks.
