The Wedge Scouting Report: Emmanuel Ogbah, DE

It has come to my attention that the Dolphins may not have a draft entirely compromised of linebackers.

In fact, maybe they use free agency to address linebacker.

Well, that thought hurts me deep in my pulsarspheres…but it’s a fact I have to accept.

So in my sadness I turned to an Earth Movie to wash away my troubles – Tombstone

A great movie about Wyatt Earp and his companions taking on the Cowboy known as –

Emmanuel Ogbah!

Ogbah4

Wyatt Earp came to the town of Tombstone and became the lawman of Tombstone.

But little did Earp know that a Cowboy from Nigeria would also come to town.

Earp thought the best way to preserve law and order was a high octane passing game.

Ogbah had different ideas as to what was right for Tombstone.

Ogbah3

The 6’4, 274 pound Cowboy tallied 10 sacks in 2014 and 12.5 in 2015.

He was pass rushing beast at Oklahoma State ruining Earp’s plan to rule the West with that ariel attack.

And when Ogbah gets to the quarterback, well he doesn’t exactly tickle the passer.

It helps that Ogbah is a fast big man.  He ran a 4.63 in the 40 yard dash!

Ogbah6

I’ve seen Ogbah compared to NFL pass rushers like Charles Johnson, Datone Jones and Vinnie Curry.

Some scouts think he might be a better run stopper than a pass rusher because he is not known for his explosiveness.

But I say to quarterbacks “Tell them Ogbah’s coming, and hell is coming with him!”

Ogbah5

Im my version of Tombstone, the Cowboy buries all the lawmen.

Okay, I took a few liberties with this version of Tombstone.  But I think you know where I am going with this.

If Ogbah was an Alien Weapon of Destruction.  Well in this case its more of a memorial….

You think he could use the wells report rebutal that kraft showed
    *********
    yes
he can use it as evidence
not the document itself, but the things that made up the document

    its still not enough

    play it out
They have to call a scientific expert witness on ideal gas law
and they would not get away with using the guy they used for the report who had financial connections to Kraft
That person can offer a theory about ideal gas law and that’s it

He can’t offer a cell phone to show there is nothing on his phone b/c he smashed it
and that will draw a negative inference

the two employees would be shitty witnesses
and can you imagine that “deflator was a reference to weight loss” comment in court
he will get eaten alive for saying something like that on cross-examination

Brady was successful at proving (at least to the fed judge) the wells investigation was not reliable
but that has nothing to do with proving that Brady didn’t do it.
It just means the NFl’s basis to do what it did was not reliable
You actually have to prove something didn’t occur
not just counter the inconsistencies of some report that it did occur
    its much different

a gas law theory is jut a theory
when applied to an explanation of why there may have been different readings it offers an explanation

when applied to Tom Brady proving a false statement, it offers nothing.

the Kraft report is actually designed to poke holes in the wells report
not necessarily to prove what the wells report concluded was false

that’s may appear to be semantics
    its not

you don’t prove something didn’t occur and is a false statement by ripping up the basis of the statement
You prove it by actually showing what did occur.
    See the difference

    its a nightmare to prove
and it would drag Brady’s name through the mud – more than anything Goodell ever did or said over the last year
and if you loose that fight
forget it, in terms of PR you are toast

Tom Cruise failed to prove at trial that he wasn’t gay
Think about that repercussions of that
now insert Tom Brady and deflate gate in place of Cruise and gay

a smart lawyer would tell Brady – don’t even try it,
and pay me 5k for giving you that sound advice…..lol

    gdp,
If miller is getting 6mil/year then the guaranteed money is usually 2+ years. SO I think its in the 13-15mil range but you never know.
    Reply

You’re probably correct here. I’m still ok with it. Miller is too valuable in my eyes to let walk over a couple of Mil one way or the other.
We made huge deals like Tanny & Suh work, we can do the same for great production with Millertime.

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter 4h4 hours ago
Colts have told WR Andre Johnson that they are releasing him, per source. One more high-profile unemployed veteran.

  4. D says:

BTW, i saw a small list above of people we interviewed, thats a very small subset. It didnt list a Qb which from another article i know we did interview at least one, and it also didnt like the number of interviews they reported having daily during combine, so i think some of these list of reported candidates are just one they want people to know we interviewed, otherwise that list would have been LONG. One interview every 15 minutes from early morning until late at night every night of combine…… do the math lol.

  5. getterdone says:

Piggy, forget about it being a RB for a sec.
I want to pay for a guy that has a career 4.6yd avg, at times over 5yd per carry. A guy that has scored 19 TD’s the past two very underused seasons!
I wouldn’t care if he was a long snapper, I’d pay for that type of production. 😀

  6. getterdone says:

    Bills released CB Leodis McKelvin.
Another expected move out of Buffalo. The cap-strapped Bills save $3.9 million against the cap with McKelvin’s release. McKelvin was the No. 11 overall pick of the 2008 draft and spent his first eight years in Buffalo.

  7. D says:

I think Miller winds up being more like 4 years 26mil 12 guaranteed. His age and productivity and being the top RB in FA currently has him around those numbers.

  8. D says:

I dont think you guys should worry about us making the best attempt to sign Miller we can, i think you need to focus on other teaams making a better offer because they can afford to do more.

    • The Flying Pig says:

I don’t worry about either of those things

but…did I leave the oven on?

Yeah but Miller is considered better. They will both get pretty nice paydays.

nope, not if you listen to the idiots in the tampa market. they cant believer miller wants more money then martin

  10. D says:

Anyone have any rumors of players who have been cut visiting the Phins?

  11. The Flying Pig says:

I kinda think Doug Martin is a better RB than Miller
I would have expected Miller to get less than Martin

  12. D says:

We put an RFA on Ulrick John….wtf lol.

  13. getterdone says:

D, btw, good call on the cap strapped Bills making big cuts. Could be Rex’s last year, already…lol

  14. The Flying Pig says:

Ulrich John sounds like a character in Robin Hood…are you sure that’s his name?

I’m sorry, but Nick Foles might be one of the few starting QBs worse than Ryan Tannehill. PASS! Don’t believe the hype folks.

I’m curious if Omar would say the same thing if Foles was black ?

    • dbolt48 says:

      Doubtful.

    • D says:

Which Foles is he talking about, last years 65 passer rating, 10 ints vs 7 TD’s Foles or the 120 passer rating 27 TD’s and 2 ints Foles? TBH he’d be a better backup than Moore though i wouldnt trad more than a 7th for him.

      • dbolt48 says:

Wouldn’t trade anything for him. Rams are taking a $9 million cap hit if he’s traded or released. Why give them anything when you’ll have to also get him to agree to a long term extension to eliminate his $13 million figure in 2017.

    • Tim Knight says:

Coming from one of the worst sports reporters.

  18. getterdone says:

Dolphins tendered restricted free agent TE Jake Stoneburner.
Miami also tendered S Shamiel Gary, WR Matt Hazel, OL Ulrick John, CB Tyler Patmon and S Michael Thomas.
The Dolphins will not tender restricted free agent TE Brandon Williams.

True but usually the word trade doesn’t end without a pick not being involved, at least conditional picks.

  20. The Flying Pig says:

I think acquiring Foles warrant a pick

  21. Tim Knight says:

    LOL @ Dbolt

Nothing goes to waste with that guy. He puts his smeg on crackers.

@Dbolt48: @unsquishthefish @OmarKelly Its called hand jobs for the homeless. He randomly jerks off a homeless guy with or without their consent.

  24. D says:

Highly doubt Jordan is kept around. He ha a roster bonus of almost 3mil. If we cut him we dont have to pay that, and we save almost 3.5mil in cap space. We keep him and he counts almost 6.5 against it.

  25. getterdone says:

Giving Dion FF $3M before the season starts is like giving haagen dazs to a fat lady.

  26. getterdone says:

Rams signed franchise player CB Trumaine Johnson to a one-year, $13.952 million contract.
He’ll settle for the franchise tender while the two sides work toward a long-term agreement. With Johnson taken care of, the Rams will now shift their attention to Janoris Jenkins, who is hoping for an annual salary in the $12 million range. That’s a steep cost but Los Angeles has plenty of cap space ($45.09 million).

  27. getterdone says:

Bills signed franchise player LT Cordy Glenn to a one-year, $13.706 million contract.
As expected. The two sides now have until July 15 to agree on a long-term deal. Even with next to no cap space, the Bills couldn’t risk losing Glenn on the open market.

  28. D says:

Bears are still trying to trade Martellus Bennett. Probably too much money invested at the TE position for us to do this but that would be a pretty sick tandem of TE’s lol.

  29. getterdone says:

Bennett isn’t that exciting. Bears are more interested in keeping the oft injured Miller who had one good season last year….whoopie.

    • D says:

I think Bennett is a pretty awesome TE, full package, he is a good receiving threat and he is a beast in the blocking department. Probably the best overall TE in the league. I can only assume ya mean as a receiving threat because there are better receiving TE’s but put the two on the field at the same time, especially int he red zone and you have a wide open playbook chock full of opportunities.

  30. D says:

We apparently are met with Noah Spence at his pro day, as im sure a lot of teams did. Vivii Teofilo repped out 43 of 225 today n his BP, was reported that his first 35 seemed effortless and he gritted out the final 8. Appaently a lot of people got sick at the combine, some tired to gut it out and others didnt, a few people times/scores might have been off as a result.

  31. getterdone says:

D, if we signed Bennett then we’d be giving up on the last year of Sims who has similar qualities.

    • getterdone says:

Sims is entering his contract year coming off a rookie deal. He’ll be excited to play well & now will have a Gase operated offense to showcase himself.

  32. Tim Knight says:

Gase is a big proponent of Miller. I’m sure watching the tape is what did it. He sees the potential to have an explosive offense.
    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000641249/article/report-dolphins-miller-working-on-new-deal

    • getterdone says:

I’ve been pounding the blog for Miller! Changed me avie and all.

      • Tim Knight says:

Me too man. I actually think he’s our best offensive player and if got the ball a normal amount of time that a talented back should, others would feel that way too.

      • getterdone says:

He’s poised to have a breakout year….lol. Like he hasn’t already.
But we fix this OL, and I see him with 12 rushing TD’s & 6 receiving TD’s.

  33. Tim Knight says:

“But we fix this OL, and I see him with 12 rushing TD’s & 6 receiving TD’s.”
I agree, I think he can be that good. He started finding daylight 2nd have of 2014 and you could see it coming then he breaks that 97 yard TD last game against the Jets and continues with a few more in 2015.

He’s been a 15.5 touch guy his last two years. I’m increasing that by 5 minimum. That’s 80 more plays and there will be some more big plays in there.

    • getterdone says:

Which opens up the passing , which then makes the running game even more effective. Got to run first, then all else falls nicely into a great flow for play calling on offense.

      • Tim Knight says:

If we get the OL settled we can be very explosive on offense with Tannehill, Miller, Landry, Parker, Stills and Cameron. We have lots of different skill sets. Speed, quickness, size, hands, arm strength. We have all of it.

  34. Mike E. says:

    BTW

This was the best part of the debate last night. My wife and I were rolling. So glad someone got it on video. Check this out. WTF is that white thing that came out of Teed Cruz’s mouth, and then eats again?

He had cotton mouth because he was nervous or he toked up beforehand. LOL

My wife went in the other room and I was like of no, a booger is now hanging from his nose. She’s like get out?!!! I start laughing.

I saw an article that says Cruz eats a booger. I’m like come on, it was white not a booger. That’s how easy it is to spread rumors on social media. It’s getting really irresponsible out there.

  35. getterdone says:

Mike E, this is wild. I’ve been preaching that something very bizarre is going on with the ruling class. It’s only a :24 sec sound bite, but WOW!!!

    • getterdone says:

This was last nite after the debates BTW. Take it for what it’s worth, but more & more the truth is coming to light these days.

      • Tim Knight says:

A lot of people are talking about that. That’s why the KKK and white supremacist stuff started. They want him out of there. That’s one of the reasons I like that he is there. The establishment does not want their system fucked with. They are exposing themselves. It’s a good thing.

  36. naplesfan2010 says:

what is whoa on that Tim?

  37. Tim Knight says:

To do some of the stuff that is being reported we’re gonna have to make some big cuts. Just throwing some names out there… restructure Suh, release Jennings, Cameron (restructure), release or restructure Wake, Jordan, Grimes. It kind of has to happen to do some of the other things we’re trying to do like re-signing OV and Miller. I think their age and production is a big part of it. They’re at the prime level (4 years). OV is going to get offers in that $12M range per, we already offered it.

  38. naplesfan2010 says:

do you htink his wife has cost grimes a contract in miami?

    • Tim Knight says:

Cap #, signs of on the downside for a small corner, his wife baggage yes. He’s going to be 33 in July. I think we’re going younger.

  39. naplesfan2010 says:

if we draft a cb in the first could we bring lippett on fast enough as the #2?

  40. dbolt48 says:

Finally watched Creed tonight….What a GREAT FUCKING movie!

  41. naplesfan2010 says:

Possible draft ??? Ragland, William Jackson (4.37 40 and 2 pick sixes), Josh Garnett,

    • Tim Knight says:

I like Ragland for us, yes even at #8. He’s a true inside backer. He’s an excellent tackler, packs a wallop, and is a better athlete than people thought. Oh right Alabama’s DL in front of him allowed him to try on shoes and sip tea. He did nothing. LOL

  42. naplesfan2010 says:

4 Drake RB 5 Kearse S 6 Aziz Shittu DE 7 Driskel QB 7 Alex Lewis OT

  43. naplesfan2010 says:

  44. naplesfan2010 says:

Ragland ran fast enough and he is a student of the game.

  45. naplesfan2010 says:

he comes from a wining program, knows how to win, been coached well (smh), is a fine young man, has the perfect body for the position, not a tweener or too light to take the beating inside or too short to see, and he hits HARD.

  46. Mike E. says:

FWIW – I like Ragland. I think our defense is immediately better with an instinctive, hard hitting MLB. I have no problem if that’s the way we go.

It costs a business about 15000 a year to pay a part time employee (20 hours a week) that 15 wage

It costs a lot more than 15k to purchase (I’m sure mcdonalds, doesn’t manufactur them) install, maintain and power them.

But only if we get Williams cheap

I want to hit that OG market hard

  52. Mike E. says:

    Piggy

If those machines last 3-4 years, they will work out cheaper than paying employees.

    • The Flying Pig says:

The IT guys to maintain them are much more expensive than 15 dollars an hour

Not to mention that relying on technology to last 4 years is lasting a lot

They’ve had those kiosks at JetBlue for years
So maybe they last more than 4 years

    • jetsssuck says:

They are not new to consumers. Home depot use self checkouts, several food chains use them along with several. They are not expensive since you only have a scanner in this case no scanner, then a printer which you would have anyway, and the only difference would be the touchscreen customized for consumers instead of its employees.

I worked for NCR after college and they have been a major manufacturer for POS systems in the retail market. Use to be based out of Ohio but moved to Atlanta because of tax credits. Self serve hasn’t been accepted as hoped. Another problem is consumers bypassing the scanner to get items for free. RFID was implemented but stealing customers buried items under large dirt bags, mulch, and items that don’t transmit (block)radio waves (aluminum foil).

      • The Flying Pig says:

They are all over the place

It has nothing to do with the Min wage debate
        Consumers just like them
They are going to be everywhere

But they cost money to buy, install and maintain
Probably more than low wage workers do

  53. Randy says:

Give me Mario Williams any day over Vernon. If he’s still got his legs at his age, he and Suh on the same side of the defensive line could be really good. IF he’s not past his prime….which he may be.

    • The Flying Pig says:

He’s probably in the verge of being passed his prime

So there is a little risk

I don’t really think OV is even in the same class as Mario Williams at 75%

  54. Randy says:

The question for me is whether Ragland is truly a 3 down lber or not. If he’s not….he’s not a #8 pick.

    • Tim Knight says:

That’s what teams have to decide. Some think he is and he also rushes the passer which he did at Alabama on passing downs.

  55. Tim Knight says:

Mario is not going to be cheap and who cares about a compensatory pick if we add him?

    • The Flying Pig says:

I don’t know what his price is

But he is cheaper than keeping OV

Sometimes older vets come below market

  56. Randy says:

“His breakout 2013 campaign featured 11.5 sacks as Vernon showed a knack for creating pressure when he kicked inside to defensive tackle in nickel packages.”

Exactly why I kept saying his production that year was a red herring. This kid is not a double digit sacker unless he works against guards. He cannot beat LTs consistently. Still don’t know why we didn’t keep using him inside, coming through the A gaps after 2013. He’s simply not worth keeping at the kind of money he wants…not even close. I can’t believe they’re even considering it.

Insiders don’t think the Dolphins would have to break the bank for Williams. He’s 31, coming off worst year of career. Maybe $6M APY.

  58. Randy says:

    Tm,
I think there’s a big difference between playing 3rd down in college and the pros. It’s not about rushing the passer so much as covering the middle zone and getting sideline to sideline. I’m not sure he has the quickness or speed to do that in the NFL. I love how he plays, but I think I’d look for a more impactful player at #8. I’m just not sure Ragland will be changing games and making big plays…solid, yes…but I want more than that with a top 10 pick.

  59. Randy says:

    Tim,
That’s the issue with FA. Just because some dumb ass team is willing to break the bank for a FA, doesn’t mean they’re worth it. 99% of the time they’re not. Lol

    • Tim Knight says:

I agree with you on OV on the type of player he is and that he’s not an elite pass rusher. He’s a good player who plays hard and is good on stunts but is not that pure pass rushing edge guy.

  60. wyoming85 says:

Piggy I just thought the photo was funnier than hell!

And for those that wonder I do everything in my power to avoid human interaction.

    I love internet shopping!!!!!

    • The Flying Pig says:

Yeah I do the same in terms of shopping

      Not blaming you
Just pointing out the flawed logic

And the guy who tweeted it is from a conservative think tank
So you know he has an agenda in posting that

But I’m sure McDonald’s was in its way to kiosks irrespective of minimum wage

Tenchonolgy usually costs money to maintain
      I don’t think it’s necessarily a replacement

Maybe in time it saves McDonald’s $

  61. Randy says:

I’d sign Williams if he wants $6-7M a year on a short contract and draft a young pass rusher at #8. If Williams can still play, he will make Suh even more difficult to scheme to stop.

  62. Tim Knight says:

Mario had an off year due to Rex’s schemes. He had him playing OLB and dropping in coverage when he is a pure edge rushing end.

  63. Randy says:

Like most machines….self check out stations are great…until they don’t work. Then it takes 3 people to figure out how to make it work again. Lol

  64. Randy says:

    Tim,
Who do you like as a pass rushing end in this draft?

    • Tim Knight says:

Lawson and Spence. Some feel Dodd is going to be better in time, has only played football a few years and has more of that prototype 4-3 DE size at 6-5 275 where Lawson 6-3 270 and Spence 6-2 250 are in that hybrid DE/OLB size.

  65. Randy says:

The humans working at McDonald’s always screw up my order anyway.

  66. BoulderPhinfan says:

I like piggy’s idea. OV is good but he’s not elite and he’s asking for elite. Sign Mario and draft a young buck. I still think I’d rather go CB with 8 than DE. If we sign mario and shelby we can draft a DE in the 2nd round and be fine.

    • BoulderPhinfan says:

assuming we sign wake to an extension

    • The Flying Pig says:

I’m probably going DE or CB if Myles Jack Ivan’s Jalen Ramsey are off the board

I don’t know who the bpa is at that point

Hargreaves, Alexander or even Apple are in the conversation
Or Lawson, Nkemovich (I can’t spell his name), Bosa, Ogbah

It kind of turns it to a crap shoot

I kind of think Alexander is the safest pick

      • Ken says:

I am cooling on Hargreaves. I am kind of thinking he is not worth #8 overall. We need a CB but I am not sure I like anybody at no. 8 at CB.

  67. Ken says:

I have mixed emotions about going after Williams. I like Williams as a player and I think he can be a high quality DE. Better than OV; But I don’t like the idea of going after high priced FAs. This team has done that over the last several years and it has gotten us no where. We need to sign role players in FA not the big name guys. Build thru the draft and sign the role players in FA to round out the roster. I am so tired of us winning in FA and not on the field and if we sign Mario Williams it will kind of have that same feel that we have had over the last several years.

    • Tim Knight says:

I doubt it would be a long term deal for Mario. 2 years maybe $15M.

      • Ken says:

I would be on board with something like that but I think Mario is looking for a pretty big deal. He won’t command what he did last time but he knows he will command even less next year. I think he is probably looking for a pretty hefty 3 year deal because after that his market value goes down.

  68. Randy says:

    Ken,
I do agree with not liking to go after high priced FAs. Do you think $6-7M a year is too pricey for Williams? I guess I’d be okay with that on, say, a 2 year contract.

    • Ken says:

Like I said to Tim above I would be fine with something like that but I think Williams is going to be looking for me. This is really his last chance to max out a deal.

  69. jetsssuck says:

what is the highest a team could get for a comp pick? I think I have seen 3rd round before. A third rounder for someone we drafted in a later round would be a net gain if we could sign Mario. He probably wouldbe highly motivated playing against Bills twice a year.

  70. Randy says:

    Piggy,
I’m not sure you want “safe” at #8. Frankly, anybody chosen in the top 10 should be a safe pick. I know that isn’t always the case, but it usually is. I think you look for game changers. Guys who get INTs or sacks for you on defense.

    • The Flying Pig says:

Alexander is more lockdown than ball hawk

I’m not sure there is a mold for #8
It’s be nice to have a blue chip defensive player

I think Alexander might have a chance to be that guy

  71. Randy says:

    Tim,
Thanks. I still haven’t done my homework on the draft yet. I’ve looked at some OL like I always do but that’s about it other than having watched some guys play during the year.

  72. Ken says:

I just saw the Beasley tweet about not having to break the bank to sign Williams. If Beasley is correct about that I am on board.

  73. Mike E. says:

    Piggy

It is kind of a mystery how the comp picks work, but if you let a starter go, and pick up another one at approximately the same price, and they have similar production numbers, they pretty much cancel each other out.

    • Ken says:

It’s not a mystery how the comp picks work. If you are the Patriots the league awards you a high draft choice every year. Everyone else – meh you get what you get and dissent will not be tolerated.

  74. The Flying Pig says:

    I just tweets this

In 2014 Peppers signed a 3 year 26m deal with the packers

    Williams is younger
So it might be a little more than 6m that Beasley speculated on

    • Ken says:

Kind of what I was thinking. I could see Williams around 9-10 million of 3 years. But WTF do I know?

      • The Flying Pig says:

It might be a shorter deal
One where he bets on himself
Kind of like reavis has done
And playing next to Suh might help him in that way

So I think – maybe we get him at an affordable price

I don’t want to pay OV much

I would rather end up with either and draft a DE if it came down to it

      • Ken says:

I think because of his age he is going to look for years as opposed to a short term prove it deal. He has a body of work notwithstanding an off year last year. I don’t think he needs to prove himself.

  75. The Flying Pig says:

There is a new scouting report up in 3 mins

Beleive it or not – it’s on OL

  76. Mike E. says:

LOL Ken – That’s pretty accurate

  77. The Flying Pig says:

    It’s up
    New blog up
