The Wedge Scouting Report: Mackensie Alexander, CB

Wedge here for Toots SuperGlue!

Ever had one of those days?

Nothing can withstand the gravitational forces you pass through.

Everything comes to pieces!

Well that’s when you need your Toots SuperGlue!

TOOTSGLUEAD

TOOTS is the Glue you can rely on like superstar cornerback Mackensie Alexander.

Just apply a little bit of Toots Superglue to you broken Photon Belt or your best Wide Receiver and like Magic you are back in space again or pitching a shutout on the football field.

Toots and Alexander are airtight and won’t let anything come between them and the receiver, including bombs!

MackensieAlexander5

Alexander was one of the most highly ranked high school prospects coming out of high school.  He was talented then, he is talented now.

Toots won Space Ship Saver of the year last millennium.  And it still saves Space Ships!

Some think Alexander will be the first cornerback taken in the draft!  Some also think Toots will glue a moon to a planet!

Before the combine Alexander declared to the NFL “I am the best cornerback in the draft”…cocky, you bet!  True….maybe!

Cornerbacks need to be confident, and Mackensie certainly is.

And I am confident Toots will permanently glue anything it touches!

NCAA FOOTBALL: SEP 12 Appalachian State at Clemson

Guess how many interceptions Alexander had at Clemson…

The answer is ZERO.  Guess why?

Yep, you guessed it, no one dared to throw the ball near him.

Like Toots Superglue which never breaks down.  Toots is permanent and not safe for your kids to play with.

Alexander is true shutdown defensive back.  And Toots will kill your pets if they eat it!

MackensieAlexander4

Alexander is yet another prospect with Florida roots, hailing from Immokalee Florida.

I don’t know where that is but its probably full of football fields.

Toots, on the other hands, is harnessed out of the semen of dead lifeforms!

At the combine Alexander didn’t run the 40 but or really any drills at all except the bench where he benched 225 pounds 11 times.

At the Saturn New Products Fair, Toots glued an alien’s tentacles to his own pancreas 11 times!

FBC: Russell Atheletic Bowl: Clemson vs. Oklahoma

Let’s face it, if you are an NFL Team you need a Mackenzie Alexander on your roster.

And if you are an intergalactic agent, you need Toots SuperGlue in your spaceship!

Get your Toots SuperGlue now…look for the sexy alien on the label.

StickTootsGlue

Oh…and one more thing now you can get new MAX Toots SuperGlue.

Speaking of which…if Mackensie Alexander was an Alien Weapon of Destruction, he would be a bottle of MAX Toots SuperGlue!

Depends on if Wake restructures to their liking. Depending on what I knew of Wake’s rehab, I’d be tempted to let him go & resign Shelby & still have money left for a vet FA OG & maybe Miller, etc etc.

    • D's avatar D says:

Didnt look at him a lot to be honest. Small school guy with red flags for drugs, i didn’t dig too deep. He finds the endzone, 23 rushing TD’s so there is talent there im sure. I did look and there wasnt a ton of stuff to look at so i kinda cut him short/off my list.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

He’s got some big production. Supposedly he’s a good pass catcher out of the backfield too. I don’t mind his lack of height, he’s about 210 at 5’8″, so he’s got mass.

      • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

you think? I’m not sure if those 2 are worth a 2nd round pick. we could have gotten a solid starter with number 8. And we still can with 13 but we need to get real lucky. Are either one of these guys a solid starter? Alonso was at one point but not anymore. I haven’t watched maxwell enough to form an opinion. I know tanny had a good day against the eagles last year.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

if this true wow we got shafted IMO. That’s basically a 2nd round pick.

    • D's avatar D says:

Means we got Maxwell and Alonzo for whats equivalent to a late round 3 pick if this is indeed how it goes down. Im not likeing the trade back in the first but two starters for a increase in cap of 3mil (as it stands now) and a 3rd round pick is not bad at all.

      • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

how did you get 3rd round? If you go from 8 to 13 that’s a 2nd round pick. Then we get a 4th back so that’s a late round 2nd round pick.

  29. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

D, yeah Lasco is real interesting. His combine numbers are all near the top!
Plus he’s good in the passing game as both a blocker & receiver. The Cal Bears were a pass heavy team.

Bills re-signed LG Richie Incognito to a three-year, $15.75 million contract.
The two sides appeared to be drifting apart at this time last week when it was reported the Bills were “frustrated” Incognito wouldn’t take a “cut-rate deal” and give the team a discount. difference in the value of pick 8 and 13+110 is about 176, which pick 83 is 175 value. pick 83 is round 3 pick 20.

  37. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

13 isn’t bad. Spence, Conklin, Dodd, Ragland should all be there. If we move Alonso to WLB, draft Ragland, that’s an improved LB corps right there. Hewitt, Jenkins and Misi can fight it out for the SLB spot

  38. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I see you guys finally started discussing the swap in the Philly deal. It’s been discussed on the other blog. I look at it like 3 starters and a 4th to move down 5 spots. There’s plenty of talent in the middle of the 1st round and it’s likely that our board doesn’t say #8 is so much more than top 15.

  39. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    D

I guess I’m just glad we have all our picks, and now we get a 4th too. I’m totally cool with that.

  40. D's avatar D says:

GD, im sure TBaum will wheel and deal with that extra pick so its likely we move back up some in the first if we really see a guy a couple picks up from us and use the extra 4th as compensation or maybe we move our third into the second, which late second could be prime real-estate this draft.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    Colts waived OLB Bjoern Werner.
A truly colossal bust as the No. 24 overall pick of the 2013 draft, Werner was a healthy scratch six times last season. The German Vernon Gholston, Werner has 6.5 sacks through 38 NFL games.

      • D's avatar D says:

As i have said plenty of times recently, speed isnt everything anymore. Days of just being able to leave people behind ya are gone, NFL is a much more complex place with a lot of great athletes on every team. You have to be nuanced to be competitive.

  48. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yeah im likeing the 4th for a RB, but now we have 2 we might also take a TE there. RB is in most my mock drafts, TE usually there if i pick up an extra pick. I dont think TE is a dire need for us but getting a guy to be a better 3rd than Stoneburner would be nice.

His brother might even be a Dolphins too 🙂 though I admit that it happens only if he goes undrafted

  57. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    D,
With Jordan Cameron restructuring, I think there won’t be a ‘need’ for a TE in this draft though the team does need to find a 3rd wheel who’s better than Stoneburner. Cameron/Sims duo isn’t bad. Both had disappointing 2015 season for different reasons but similar with injuries.

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Hback is something the team needs I guess but those kind of TE have different qualities than what Sims/Cameron have

      • D's avatar D says:

Then maybe one of the brothers….like baby gronk. Big gronk apparently not happy with the 4th year option being picked up on his contract. Maybe he would get so mad he would come play on a team with his little bro lol.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Cameron only lowered his salary about $1-1.5M. He did not add years.
So he’s still a FA as of 2017. Would be nice to groom a guy like Jerell Adams or Tyler Higbee about now.

    ——————————————–
in the article it says we are picking up his bloated salary for the guaranteed yrs and it says the eagles were willing to trade him because of the bloated salary and he never measured up.He was ranked in the bottom 1/4 of all CB

    • D's avatar D says:

There was a report that we were working to re-negotiate his contract, so it may change, but even if it doesnt the 8.5 he is due next year is the only guaranteed money. If it turns out bad we could literally cut him next year and walk.

I really dont think though it was a matter of him being bad as muc as his role in that defense was to be the island CB and he isnt that type of CB. He’s a press/zone CB so he would fit what they ran in Cincy, and what they seem to be indicating they will run in Miami better. All in all its a good trade though i think there will still be a high CB pick to start opposite as i think he is more the no 2 CB vs the no 1. Alonzo is all potential, his rookie years was nothing short of disgustingly sick, he comes back to a 4-3 and goes back to that level of play and oyu could easily forget that the Maxwell part even happened.

I really like Paul Perkins from UCLA (projected 3-4 RDer by nfldraftscout) as a complete back w/ great vision; Tyler Ervin from San Jose State (home run type RB) DeAndre Washington from Texas Tech (short but very stalky ala Ray Rice) intrigues as a combo RB with Ajayi.

There was a report that we were working to re-negotiate his contract, so it may change, but even if it doesnt the 8.5 he is due next year is the only guaranteed money. If it turns out bad we could literally cut him next year and walk.
    ———
Regarding Maxwell’s original contract structure, the Fins are on the hook for $11.5 million in pay outs (8.5 million guaranteed in 2016 YR base salary + 3 of 10 million guaranteed from 2017 YR base salary) and cap wise have to record the pro-rated amount from his original signing bonus (1.2 mill yearly allocation for 5 years so 6-1.2=4.8 mill left to allocate against the team cap.

I’ve read discussions that the restructure could involve paying out the 11.5 mill in guaranteed money remaining as a signing bonus and then pro-rating that across 5 years or whatever which reduces his cap number by reducing the base salary structure.

    D,
Aaron Green is another good option too as you mentioned.
Even in the late RD to UDFA pool you got backs like Peyton Barber who intrigues and is thirsty for NFL success due to family reasons.

Ok, to finally clarify (per @AllbrightNFL):

#Eagles get 8th overall pick, 4th rd pick.

#Dolphins get 13th overall pick, Alonso & Maxwell.

they must have not liked the player they would get at 8. Maybe they think they can get the same value at 13. Its a big gamble. I guess we’ll see

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Perhaps Allbright is wrong but this doesn’t seem good :/

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I heard it the other way around

that the Eagles gave us a 4th and we flipped 1st rounders
Basically for taking away their salary purge

I think its a shit trade if we gave up a 4th round pick and dropped 5 spots in the 4th round
for dropping 5 spots in the first round you recoup a 2nd rounder

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

When I first heard it that’s what I thought it was.

It’s really we swap our 1st rd picks and we take on Maxwell’s contract, and a 4th for Alonso. Two starters and we still have a high 1st rd pick, our 2nd and 3rd. It doesn’t bother me. People need to focus on these guys are looked at as starters, not camp fodder. LOL

    http://overthecap.com/player/byron-maxwell/1535

I’m using overthecap data myself… For 2017 it shows $6.6 mill in dead money if cut (1.2 mill x 3 years remaining after YR 1 & YR 2 + 3 mill of the 10 mill guaranteed from the 2017 base)

Very odd, dumping one injury prone player for another @ same position.

Outsiders could say the same thing about us trading for Alonso who is replacing Misi 🙂

  83. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

now that we have williams we have to try and keep wake now and re sign shelby.

  84. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I love watching fans get crazy over draft picks. Without that 4th our entire offseason is fucked! LOL

By the end of today we could have 3 new starters and FA hasn’t even started yet. Horrible offseason. LOL

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      Tim
if we are building through the draft
      we aren’t building anything
its one thing to bring vet players in
its another to give away draft picks to do it

      We need our picks

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

LOL, right….however it kinda butt rapes the build through the draft concept. 😉

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We have a new starting DE, LB and CB and FA hasn’t started yet. Obviously performance is the key but we’re in better shape than we were a day ago.

  85. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

If Alonso starts at MLB, he will have essentially replaced Misi.

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Doesn’t make sense since Misi is a natural OLB who was playing MLB only out of the team need from that position. I saw he looked alright at MLB (had his hiccups like anyone new to a position); saw where instincts weren’t there but he did solid IMO given the situation. I thought the Fins should have left him there this year to see if he grows into the position but in classic Philbin fashion they put him back somewhere like they flip flopped OL the last 2 years (Pouncey to OG back to C; DT everywhere, etc).

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      Misi played SOLB, not MLB.

  86. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    GDP,
I just saw some highlights of Brandon Wilds after looking at his attributes.
Attributes look good on paper but when I looked at the film he looks like he runs a bit choppy. Maybe cause he’s tall for a RB. I just get a Daniel Thomas feeling about him lol.

  87. D's avatar D says:

If thats the case now then we basically lost a 56th overall pick, or whats equivalent to round 2 pick 25.

    • D's avatar D says:

For me even if we lost a couple places in the first, we maintained, no increased the overall number of picks we had, i would have been ok with also maintained the number of picks, but to drop back 5 spots int he first and give up a pick, even a 4th rounder to me kinda hurts us. We esentially had the leverage on the Maxwell trade since we were assuming his contract, Alonzo would have bene worth a net loss of a 3rd on the trade but i dont feel that he’s worth a net loss of a 2nd in a year we could really use the picks, shoulda been either or, either we swap 1st rounders or we lose a 4th not both.

  88. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yep, can’t build through the draft with a 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 7. It’s that’s 4th that really puts it altogether. You guys kill me. It just fucks up your mock drafts. LOL

  89. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Tim
I’m fine with the idea of replacing OV with Williams
    (if that is the case)
    I think that’s an upgrade
    I’m fine letting Miller go

but picking up Maxwell and Alonzo and giving up a draft pick is a problem to me
We gave up a chance to get a young player by giving up a 4th round pick

and I donlt think that is how to build a team

  90. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m not cool with losing our 4th RD pick. Not at all. This is why we will never build through the draft, because of moves like this. Things will never change.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      Its a cycle

next offseason we will undo all the moves we made the last 2 years
instead of building upon the moves we made

its one thing to bring in vets
      which I’m fine with

its another to give up on chances to bring in young players to build your team

  91. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Dolphins agreed to terms with DE Mario Williams on a two-year, $16 million contract.
The offseason is the Dolphins’ postseason. Their March dynasty is approaching Belichick-esque levels. Now 31, Williams was widely accused of quitting last season before being released by the Bills last week. Williams is one of the best pass rushers of his generation, and is well worth a flier, but it will be a risky deal for the perennially cap-strapped ‘Fins. His addition will almost certainly mean the release of Cam Wake.

  92. D's avatar D says:

Im pretty down on it and its not because of losing a 4th. I already didnt like trading down in the first, but it was acceptable when we gained a extra pick. That 4th round pick wasnt going to make or break any mocks i had, and im not so narcissistic that it makes a difference to me about MY mock. When it comes to my team and what i feel is a bad move, im going to call it that way. We have many a need and while the 4th might not be a big deal to you it likely at least represented a depth player, potentially a starter, and we could use some of either.

  93. D's avatar D says:

Is that a official details or is that another fucking reporter saying what their “source” says…. They cant do anything official until start of the year so just wondering. I hope its inaccurate.

  94. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

There are a lot of good players ranked between 90-135 that would probably be available in the 4th round

2014 4th round included players like
    Devontae Freeman
    Martavious Bryant
    Bryan Stork
    Andre Williams
    Logan Thomas
    Russell Bodine

There are productive players in the 4th round every year

  95. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Tbomb isn’t the negotiator I thought he was. This now becomes a sizable gamble on two injured players who’ve yet to reach their full potential….and we’re a team full of holes still.

  96. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Maxwell makes me queasy. The deal for KIKO I like straight up cause I think his knee won’t tear again (tore his ACL in 2014 working out; in 2015 suffered a grade II sprain of his surgically repaired ACL during WEEK 2 and missed WEEK 3-8). Looked blah the rest of the way in WEEK 9-17 but finished on a high note in WEEK 16 & 17 recording his highest tackles total of the season in both Week 16 vs Skins (8) and 17 vs Giants (9).

  97. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Maxwell acquisition reminds me of the Richard Marshall acquisition from a few years back LOL
