Wedge Scouting Report: Darron Lee, LB

Ohio State is loaded with prospects in 2016

Joey Bosa, Eli Apple, Ezekial Elliot, Taylor Decker, Braxton Miller, Von Bell, Joshua Perry, Michael Thomas, Adolphus Washington!

So many prospects I feel like Moe the Cranium Crusher put my head in a vice again.

Mo the Head Squasher

Who is Moe?  He is the little squirt who takes my head to a vice when I don’t file a planet destroyer file on time.

I hate him…or her…or it…whatever that little blob is…I would squash him if I could.

but I can never find him away from the deadly vice.

And I’m not getting near that vice.

Kind of like my favorite Buckeye Darron Lee

DarronLee5

I’m not getting near Darron Lee…guess why…

BECAUSE HE WILL SMASH YOUR CRANIUM!!!

This aggressive linebacker will come out you with force!

On a team full of talent, he might be the most talented Buckeye (sorry Joey Bosa, just one Alien’s opinion)

DarronLee4

Lee decided to come out as a sophomore, so maybe he hasn’t received as much attention as the other Buckeyes.

But he should have!

And after his combine performance, you bet he is getting the attention he deserves.  Lee ran an impressive 4.47 in the 40 yard dash.  Zoooooooooooooooooom!

If you don’t give him attention now, he might squash your human head…

Like many Linebackers this year he might be considered undersized by some.  He is 6’2, 235 pounds.  Not huge by NFL standards.

OSU14UM_CRR_27

But don’t tell Lee you think he is undersized if you value your head not being squashed.

He’s explosive and he hits with power!  BOOM!  Your head is sauce now!

Lee is a good pass rusher who managed to compile 6.5 sacks as a freshman and 4.5 as a sophomore.  He also tallied 3 interceptions in his career.

DarronLee5

It might be a historic draft for Ohio State.  Maybe they break the record for 1st round picks in the draft.  Or maybe they break the record for most players drafted in one season.

Darron Lee doesn’t care about that though.

Darron Lee takes your history and he bashes you with it.  Darron Lee just wants to bash you.  So don’t give him anything to do it with for your own good.

DarronLee6

Lee is all over the field:  making impact plays behind the line of scrimmage, dropping into coverage, going from one side off the field to the other.  Its helps to have sub 4.50 speed!

You can make an argument that Lee is the truest linebacker in the NFL draft.

And if you don’t make that argument, Lee will smash you.

If Lee was an Alien Weapon of Destruction, he would be the Galactic Cranium Smasher Vice (sans Mo, so I can finally kill him)

I’m not too worried about Lee smashing me, he’d probably miss the tackle like he usually does. lol

In today’s NFL you have to attack, attack, attack. 😉

  5. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The Lions played the wide 9 defense, and who was their MLB? Stephen Tulloch. Smart, instinctive LB who is a tackling machine who probably doesn’t even run as well Reggie Ragland. Just something to consider . . . .

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Gase said unless we bring in another Mike LB Alonso is penciled in as the Mike at the moment. He also said they’re going to play Maxwell at the LOS so he can play physical with WRs which he does well.

  6. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike, he actually said everything is written in pencil as of now. LOL

But Alonso is going to be one of the starting LBs. The entire org considered the Eagles trade to be we added 3 starters, Maxwell, Alonso and the #13 pick. Gase was adamant about that.

  7. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

My best guess as to our 1st pick is any CB they think can start for us quickly, which could include Hargreaves III, Alexander, Apple or Jackson III.

  8. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Tim,
But the Dolphins have options and can do something like gamble on a corner such as LSU’s Rashard Robinson outside of the first 2-3 RDs.

    Mmm Apple Jacks

  10. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Jackson III is my favorite and shows me the most promise of the group.
The way he uses his hands at the point of attack while not needed to grab his cover guy and the way he can intercept the pass really excites me.

    mike,
from every mock I’ve see Hargreaves will be gone by 13. I bet the pick is Alexander or Apple.

  13. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Just curious, does anyone here think Lee would beat out Jenkins at WOLB this season?

  14. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Boulder

I think Hargreaves will be gone as well, but you never know.

  15. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    Oh those….

  16. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Al, we don’t have to go CB in the 1st I just think we might. We can go a lot of ways. But I think DE might be deeper into the 2nd rd than CB.

  17. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    I would probably go
    Hargreaves
    Alexander
    Jackson
    Apple
    Burns
    Fuller

    in that order at CB
I don’t think apple is a great fit
but I don’t want to leave him off that list

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

maybe Burns and Fuller are available with our 2nd rounder

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m not even going to try to guess. The team will target who they feel is the best for the type of defense they’re going to play.

Gase was also asked about a #1 CB and he said he doesn’t look at it like that. He said all he’s concerned with is whoever is on the field that they play well.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

If you are going to go CB
you are picking between some closely rated prospects

cbs has 4 CBs ranked from 10-27
        (Hargreaves, apple, alexander & Jackson)

so if CB is the position, there is a lot of discretion to choose “your guy” rather than the BPA, b/c I think at that position, and picking #13 – the BPA is really a matter of opinion

I bet a lot of scouts disagree which is the best or 2nd CB

  18. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Tim,
I think Artie Burns is a nice player too. A guy who did much without any coaching

  19. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Piggy, I agree on CBs. Now that we know we’re going to play press coverage, or at least they’re going to have Maxwell do that, you would think we’d want another press corner. All the corners are going to be coached to do it and Lippett is a big corner who could surprise as well.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

That is why I don’t think apple is a great fit

Hargreaves and Alexander (Hargreaves more so) are a little smaller than the mold if they want big DBs
but they both are good in press

I don’t know I’m thinking Alexander might be an ideal fit
      just a pork hunch

  20. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Rashard Robinson has character issues but you know me, I don’t care about that stuff unless the stuff you are doing lands on the NFL automatic suspension list -> PED and such.
He has big time talent as a cover guy. Once shut down Mike Evans by himself.

  21. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Piggy,
I think also if physicality is what the Fins are after at CB then Xavier Howard fits the mold.
He is not afraid to come in and bust up the run either.

  28. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

His combination of burst off the edge with his height and arm length is rare.

  32. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    al,
After Jordan I’m scared to take smallish DE that are really 3-4 olb’s. I would almost rather go with Lawson. That’s why I think a CB makes sense at 13.

  33. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Mike E,
To me it’s all about the size of the fight in the dog anyway. The way Floyd uses his arms to his advantage in the leverage game is what seals the deal for me.

  34. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

JT came from a small college program (Akron), where they probably didn’t have anywhere near the weightlifting facility that the Dolphins did, or Georgia does now that Leonard Floyd had the last few years. He might get a little bigger, but you can’t say that Georgia doesn’t have a pro type of facility for strength training.

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

All schools have weight rooms and programs. The player’s commitment determines outcome in most cases I would assume. There are always dedicated trainers trying to push their own careers everywhere. Only difference in a big school is the size of the facilities and perhaps more one on one dedication of various trainers and staff.
For some reason, people get stronger in the NFL and by a good amount in comparison to college. Maybe it’s because they have more time to workout all the time once they leave academic world.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m pretty sure Akron had a weight room. It’s not like the school was in a small village in Timbuktu. LOL

  35. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

Of course Akron had a weight room, but Georgia is a huge football program, and I’m sure their facility and trainers make Akron’s circa 1995 look like my home gym. lol

    ———
Don’t let one bad apple scare ya 🙂
Jordan had some moments on the field (ended the Falcons game knocking down ball; covered Gronk like a blanket) in the rare times he made it on the field but the fucker decided to keep on doing PED even after getting caught the 1st time. There are plenty of athletes who don’t do this (way more than do).
Also, I’m a firm believer that NFL scouts can skip much of their own work by seeing which college coaches have an eye for particular talent at particular positions. Mark Richt’s record speaks for itself.

  40. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Boulder / Mike E,
All kidding aside, scheme fit is very important as well.
Floyd played in a 3-4 predominantly and probably projects there in the NFL but great athletes can play in all kinds of alignments (Wake & JT did it in their Fins careers). When I look at Floyd, i see a guy who uses his arms and hands well and he has a good burst off the LOS when he’s lined up as a DE trying to pass rush. He also doesn’t slow down his effort when OL slow him down (you see him trying to find the gaps and drive his legs through when he’s bunched up with a bunch of blockers). I think the upside with Floyd is that he can grow into his 6-6 frame.
Remember when JT came into the league he was Floyd’s weight/size. JT was then compared to Charles Haley who went a similar way (LB to more full time DE with weight gain).

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

JT was a rare athlete. I just want a player that we take at 13 to be ready to go day 1. RIght now I feel like we need a starter at CB more than we need one at DE.

My personal preference would be to select a day 1 starter at CB. The draft is deep for DEs and we have wake and williams. Go CB or Oline with 1st pick. I would also be ok with a RB at 13 if there is one worth taking at that spot.

  43. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Boulder,
I think the same situation at CB exists as with DE.
Fins believe they have a starter in Byron Maxwell (at least that’s how they view it IMO) and as a long term solution because he’s only 28. So, that leaves CB need to only 1 other side of the field. The other spot is open but with the commitment in the past draft to CB in McCain & Lippett along with Ireland’s commitment with Davis (no longer here) & Taylor, it is possible that one of those are enough for now which would negate the ‘major’ need for another starting CB in this year’s draft.
Mario Williams (31) & Wake (34) are both older and are not 28 like Maxwell is at his position and opposite LDE is Branch who isn’t an upside guy at this point and is very average as a starter at best.
Fins also have need at the LB positions as we all have disussed. Jenkins is suitable at his position and depth there is ok wi/ Hewitt & Vigil but MLB & SOLB is hurting for sure. Kiko was added but he comes with some risk as well as Misi who has been often hurt throughout his career.
There needs to be an injection of talent there and speed on that side (opposite Jenkins).
Fins need another DT as well IMO but with so much invested in Suh, coupled with last year’s pick of Phillips, it would seem like a luxury pick to take one in the first two rounds. Another is eventually needed since Mitchell is probably not guaranteed anything in the near or longer term. Fede hasn’t been reliable to this point but he does have talent and can be a suitable backup for now (now assumes the Shelby role i guess).

  47. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    Al,
I guess the question is which position is deeper in this draft CB or DE. We definitely need starter type CB across from maxwell. I just don’t think taylor or lippett are gonna suffice.

At least at DE we have starters there right now even though their both old and could get injured any second. We’re pretty thin at CB.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think DE is deeper than CB but there are solid prospects at both into the mid rounds.

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

I don’t know what the FO is projecting but there are sure to be some vet cap casualties after the draft (many believe Brandon Carr will be cut bait on June 1). They have some cover but $ matters so they can’t just sign whoever they want. The reports out there also say the Fins have been choosy about what FA they sign at moment because it messes with the compensatory formula

  48. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Randy,
For sure, it’s been terrible what has been done about FS (average FA solutions and no high investment) over the last few years. Then the FO wonders why the scheme suffers YR in YR out.
S cover more ground than CB and are the first thing a QB looks at in determining what is going on on D.

  49. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
Gase has said a lot of things. Lol That doesn’t mean it’s gonna turn out that way. Plus, Jones struggled when asked to play more in space. He’s best in the box. If that’s what this new kid is too, then I’m concerned.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay so we’re back to nothing the coach says matters thing eh? LOL

I was just reporting what I heard. I watched like 6 videos of him last night from the owner’s meetings and he was pretty candid about some stuff.

  50. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

I missed this yesterday during Gase’s presser (via Barry Jackson’s ‘Sports Buzz’ on the Herald):

On Chris McCain, who is being moved back from linebacker to defensive end: “This is one of those where we’ve had this discussion. We’re trying to put him in a position where he can stay at one spot and roll.”

    —-
Gee, can’t believe the previous staff didn’t figure this out.

  51. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Randy,
I saw this the other day in Barry Jackson’s Sports Buzz over at the Herald:
It (comments by Titans OL coach) mirrors exactly what you said a week or two ago:

“In recent years, moves from tackle to guard have had mixed results. J’Marcus Webb did it for Oakland last year and ranked 69th among 81 guards in Pro Football Focus rankings, comparable with Billy Turner. Justin Pugh did it for the Giants and was very good, finishing 12th in PFF’s rankings.

Bushrod said it will be challenging but he’s up for it. Even though tackle is considered the more difficult position, “it’s a whole different world on the inside, a different style of play. You have to have a certain level of athleticism,” Titans offensive line coach Bob Bostad told The Tennessean when the team considered moving a tackle to guard two years ago. “You just can’t take it for granted that some guy on the outside is going to walk in and play inside.”

  52. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Al, McCain didn’t play a lot either. He was inactive a few times too.

  53. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

I saw this comment as well via Barry Jackson yesterday:

“Rex Ryan, whose team cut Williams earlier this offseason. Ryan, at Tuesday’s AFC coach’s breakfast, said:

“I think he’ll play left end, and when you’ve got Suh inside, it’s set up to play a 4-3 defense, so I think that’s what they’ll do with him,” Ryan said, via Syracuse.com. “Play a nine technique, everything he wants. I like him personally. He’s not perfect, just like the rest of them. I’m perfect [kidding]. I like Mario, and he’s been a great player in this league, a very productive player, and I didn’t want to lose him, but that’s just the way it is.””

  54. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Other comments from Fins coaches/FO guys that might have been missed from the last couple days:

“On the trade-down with Philadelphia, moving from 8 to 13 in the first round: “It’s reasonable to think we will get a starter at 13 if we stay there. To get three starters in one trade, we felt we’re not one player away. We all thought that’s an efficient use of cap resources.”

As for Tannehill, Gase touched on a few issues:

He said his job will be “taking a little bit off of Ryan, not letting him get hit, get the sacks down, get him comfortable sitting back there in the pocket.”

On where specifically he wants to get Tannehill to another level: “I need to see him live. I’ve seen him play live two times in my life. In 2014, when he came into Denver, he played well in that game. And then I saw him last year preseason game. He was in for like nine plays and walked down the field and scored on us.

“I just want to see him [live]. From everything I hear, his intelligence level is off the charts. Offensively, we’re going to have to experiment, kind of figure out where we’re at with Ryan. Some of the routes that this group does really well, I haven’t been a part of in a while. Every quarterback likes different things. Ryan does excel at some concepts that I haven’t run in a while, that the last two quarterbacks I had didn’t really like.”

ow much has he watched Tannehill on tape? “It has been real sporadic for me. I went back, saw the AFC East games. I wanted to see what was going on in the division, how we played against those teams. That was my starting point. I’ll watch a game here and there. It takes time to grind through all that tape when you have free agency and the draft.

I want to watch what he’s done throughout his career. You start putting all the cut-ups together. Let me watch all the touchdowns. Let me watch all the interceptions. It’s a process. It took us a long time to get through. We did all these 5 year cut ups of Jay Cutler last year, watch five years of interceptions fast. You’ve got to figure out where were trouble spots? How can you help him? Where can you put him in better positions?”

    ——-
I think he’s ok but he certainly isn’t a top flight FS or anything close to it. He’s a stop gap for now in a situation where the Fins are really desperate for depth/talent. His market value was low and that says enough about his worth to teams around the NFL and where he stands as an individual ‘talent’.

  57. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think we are deep a DE currently
the big question is do we have 2 starters

I like Bushrod as a backup OT, IF he’s healthy, so I’m not too worried if he can’t play guard. That’s a bonus in my mind because if he’s healthy he’s a starting caliber LT. To have him as our backup instead of Fox is a huge upgrade…again…if he stays healthy.

I would trade Tannehill and take Carson Wentz in a heartbeat. No if’s, and’s or but’s!

    • D's avatar D says:

I like him, especially as a pro style QB more than Tanny. He doesnt have the athleticism Tanny has and he would need to take a year or so to get up to where Tanny is, but the ceiling is higher with him i think, It would definately be a couple years of growing though before he got there. His touch passes are already better than Tanny, but the velocity on his throws isnt quite as good, his accuracy is better than Tanny’s was last year for sure, but then again i have seen Tanny be a lot better than Tanny was last year.

I assume Lou you are talkign about trading him to the Browns for their number 2 pick?

Conklin wouldnt have be breaking TV’s and setting fecal matter on fire if we took him at 13, there would just be a bunch of guys id be interested over him. He’s a solid OT, i just dont see him helping right now, or even this year probably and i think in any other draft he is a 2nd round guy. He’s the third best OT in this draft but the drop-off from Stanley to him is pretty significant IMO.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Move him to guard and he provides tackle depth both for now and the future. He’s not my favorite pick but it would make sense.

RD 2 CB Xavien Howard- YUCKIER
RD 3 RB Daniel Lasco – YUCK
RD 4 OG Sebastian Tretola – GOOD PICK
RD 5 TE Nick Vannett – NOT BAD

About how i felt about it, though i would have probably been more MEH than YUCK on Dodd. Dodd is solid talent, but again, i just have a few others i think would be better in that scenario.

    • D's avatar D says:

Walter from Walterfootball, his draft usually are like that though, i mean there are picks, especially early in his mocking process that are real head scratchers and just make 0 sense. Charlies are usually a lot better, but the have become more of a reference site for some information for me than they are any sort of a source for real good mocks. Their accuracy numbers are pretty low too.

Charlies mock has us taking :
      Jack Conklin
      Vadal Alexander
      Artie Burns
      James Bradberry
      Paul Perkins

Trading Tannehill for Wentz doesn’t really help us this year, and maybe next year too. That doesn’t make sense to me.

As far as Conklin is concerned, I yearn for the Dolphins to have a player “That’s tougher than beef jerky”. lol

    • D's avatar D says:

You would probably love the draft that Charlie mocked, i listed it above. Its heavy on the OL, and the Bradberry guy they mocked is a real hitter at FS, with decent ball skills. Three pretty tough demeanor players.

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

I like William Jackson, Alexander, Canaday (slot DB though), Drake (lots of upside; tougher minded runner), Sean Davis (Don’t think he goes lower than 4th or 5th but he’s a very good athlete who plays physical).

      • D's avatar D says:

Its not a bad draft, it does give us some youth solid additions on the OL, i like both Alexander and Drango and both have the flexibility to roll out to the OT position, both being former LT’s.

Im not a fan of Canaday but he is a long bodied CB who i think fits the mold of what our new DC wants in the secondary.

Cassonova McKinzy i think is a pretty good grab in the 6th, he is a prety solid guy who can play ILB or OLB.

Drake is one of my favorites for us at RB this draft. Its between he and Dixon for me.

  78. D's avatar D says:

    Kris Frost ILB

James Bradberry has the size/speed combo a team such as Seattle might like (6-1 over 210 and had a good 40 yard time, solid to good vertical, and a very good 3-cone time for his frame.). I tried watching videos of him but I just didn’t see all those good attributes show up on film ..against crap competition of all things.

Al i have been noticing more and more this year that there are guy i like in people’s mock and i think its because this draft has some depth to it, especially in certain areas that makes for having a draft strategy that always leaves with a few players coming to us. I think its very likely most of us will find some sort of satisfaction with this draft, maybe we dont come away with the big names we had on our list or a whole list of players we like but very likely a lot of us have 2-3 we really were hoping for. Im pretty optimistic this year.

  83. D's avatar D says:

Have seen a few still having us taking Hargreaves at 13, and i would love to believe that dream, but the kid is a stud and he has a great personality, so im sure he moved up, not down in peoples draft boards during the pre-draft process. I tell you though if it happens, im going to be very pleased. I think he is perfect fit for our new secondary.

  84. D's avatar D says:

Kris Frost and Cassanova McKinzy both were ILB/OLB’s at Auburn. Frost was more at ILB than OLB and McKinzy more OLB than ILB, but both have played both positions and both are pretty solid LB’ers.

RD 3 RB Daniel Lasco – YUCK

RD 5 TE Nick Vannett – NOT BAD
    ——-
Dodd finished off his career at Clemson going out on top. Hes got very good pontential absent a consistent career from start to finish. He’s had a linear progression.
Not sure what kind of DE he will become but he’s improved every year and had 3 sacks vs Bama.
Howard might be the most physical CB type outside of Ramsey but he has been known to get guys slip by him deep. PFF noted that the volume of being beaten deep were a function of him in the schemes Baylor ran on D which left him on an island often (that doesn’t happen in the NFL often). I’m not sure I like Howard as a pure CB but he flashes potential and to me might make a good FS. Convert projects to me are not worth it in RD 1 or even top 50 but that doesn’t mean Howard flashes potential (i can see him being a pro bowl FS but not a pro bowl CB)
Lasco is another interesting guy; tough runner. Most powerful (core power as measured by his athletic tests) of any of the RB. This is the same school that pushed out Marshawn Lynch and CJ Anderson so who knows..probably too risky for RD 3.
Tretola I never bothered looking up.
Vannett is not bad either but he’s more that inline blocking TE who occassionally goes out for the pass. Not much of a difference between he and Sims IMO.

More on today’s North Dakota State Pro Day event:

    North Dakota State
Feedback coming in from the North Dakota State workout:

While many are gushing over the pro-day throwing of Carson Wentz, I though it was a very good workout, but not a great workout as some have proclaimed. My concern today is what I witnessed during Senior Bowl week; when Wentz misses, he’s usually high of the mark, as there were a number of instances today where receivers had to get airborne in order to make the reception. Whether that’s the end result of over-throwing the ball or a footwork issue, it bears watching.

The feedback I’m receiving on the character of Wentz is nothing short of sensational. Everything from “he is a winner” to “he is very down to earth,” as well as points made that Wentz came back from the broken wrist to lead the Bison to a national title, casting aside further injury which could’ve ruined his draft stock.

Offensive lineman Joseph Haeg also helped himself today. He looked terrific in drills, and most feel he’s sealed himself as a top-100 pick. Teams love Haeg’s versatility, and though most have penciled him in as a right tackle or guard, the consensus opinion is other than center, Haeg can line up at any spot on the offensive line.

I’m told yesterday, Haeg worked out individually for the Carolina Panthers.

Wentz is slowly winning me over. I wasnt overly impressed with him at Senior Bowl, his throws were floaters, no zip. He had good touch on his throws but in the game and practice they were just not crisp. I remember telling my wife that if he threw like that in the pros he would score a shit ton of points….for the other team because he would have so many pick six’s on out routes it wouldnt be funny.

Then after the Senior Bowl i started hearing what i though were excuses for the glory boy to have looked so poor, they were saying there was something wrong with him at Senior Bowl that caused his passes not to look so good. I thought yeah, putting out good press for someone they are trying to pump up but when he got to Combine his throws in drills looked pretty decent. That was without pads though, as was his pro-day so i cant say im not a little skeptical but im a little more forgiving of that Senior Bowl performance.

I will say the touch he has on the throws is pretty amazing, he can put the ball pretty much where he wants to. I haven’t seen any film to say he has a cannon, nor have i seen any film that says he throws with zip like Danny boy, but he does put it where he needs/wants to when he wants to in most his game film. In the Pros that window of where he can put it is going to shrink, but its going to shrink for all those guys and he right now has best control over where he puts it.

  91. D's avatar D says:

IMO Neal is possibly the best overall FS in the draft and i have seen some other people (i think Mayock was one) rating him the same. Darian Thompson is really close, and i think the major difference between the two is Neal is a better tackler and better in the box than Thompson is and Thompson has a little bit better ball skills than Neal has. Thats not to say either are bad at the other, they are just slight opposite each other those ways. I think either would be a good addition to our team. Neal has laid some hits that are just brutal he would bring a real physical presence to our secondary.

Safety Adrian McDonald, who has 17 career interceptions, posted a vertical jump of 33 inches and a broad of 9-6, and ran the 40 in the mid 4.5s (4.53/4.55). Still waiting on his height/weight numbers.

Cornerback William Jackson sat on his Combine marks, but looked terrific in position drills; smooth and very fluid.

Looks like majority of sites are still saying Hargreaves at 13. 24% of sites have him listed as our pick, followed by Shaq lawson at 14%, Mackenzie Alexander at 10.5%, Myles Jack at 9.3%, Zeke Elliot at 7%, Darron Lee at 5.8%, and Kevin Dodd at 4.7% (rest of the percentages is scattered about) this was polling 80+ sites, from sites across the US, though some polled has not updates since February.

I went back and did the calculation eliminating any of them that havent been updated in the past 2 weeks, and the percentages are. and i have it broke down pretty much the same with minor changes. Hargreaves still was the lead at 22.44%, Mackenzie Alexander was second at 16.32%, Lawson was third 12.24%, then Zeke Elliot 10.2% Darron Lee 10.2% and Kevin Dodd 8.16%. Jack went missing from any of the most current mocks and it looks like Alexander is trending up while Hargreaves and Lawson are slightly trending down.

Patriots signed WR Nate Washington, formerly of the Texans.
The Pats were Washington’s only known visit of free agency. Going on 33, Washington gives a Pats team sorely lacking outside receivers an option on the perimeter. He was an effective role player for Houston in 2015, catching 47 passes for 658 yards and four touchdowns. The Pats probably still aren’t done bringing in downfield options after releasing Brandon LaFell. Washington joins Chris Hogan, Keshawn Martin and Aaron Dobson.
