OMG! The Draft is Here!!

2016 NFL Draft

We’ve talked about it for a long time, in fact, some of us started talking about it before we drafted last year, in the 2015 NFL draft.  It never stops.  The NFL Draft, the place where dreams are either realized, or crushed.  There is always hope, always, because where else can you bring in new, young talent, and the potential to bring in 8 or more new faces to your team in one weekend.  This only happens with the NFL, and then after the draft, even more excitement is generated by the signing of players who went undrafted.  Sometimes, a player who was expected to be a mid round pick falls completely off the draft board, or in last year’s case, a possible top 10 pick, like La’el Collins, who due to bizarre circumstances with a murder case he had no part in yet was being questioned by police, had all 32 teams wipe him right off their draft boards.

Tomorrow will begin the madness that is the 2016 NFL Draft.  The Miami Dolphins currently hold 8 picks, starting from the #13 pick, #42, #73, #107, #147, #186, #227, and finally #231.  There is no guarantee that the Dolphins will use all those picks to get 8 players, they may trade up early in the 1st RD and use 2 or 3 picks to accomplish that.  They may trade back later in the into the 1st RD, and gain a couple of picks.  There are so many angles from which to look at either strategy, and a case can be made for both, without either of them being necessarily wrong or right.  For instance, supposedly, this draft plateaus from approximately pick #15 to pick #50, meaning the talent at #50 is nearly equal to the talent at #15.  We pick at #13, right around that imaginary line, so would trading back to pick up a couple of extra players in that range be smart?  Sure.  If all the supposed blue chippers are in the top 10, does it not make sense to trade up and get a superior talent and a player with a greater chance of making a big impact on our team right now?  Sure.

Whatever we do tomorrow, partly because of past failures, such as the Dion Jordan trade up to #3 in 2013, or just because of personal preferences, some of us will be angry at some of the selections we make, and yet others will be ecstatic.  That’s how it is.  I have to give all you guys/girls lots of credit for your dedication to the sport, and especially the entire draft process.  I know many of you tirelessly watch college football to find potential for the Miami Dolphins, and others, like myself, who don’t watch college ball, scour as many scouting reports, watch highlight reels, record and watch the entire week of Senior Bowl practices and the game itself, the same with the NFL combine.  The funny thing is, even the best of the best here, who really put in max effort, most likely don’t put in a fraction of the time our scouting staff put in, and our coaches and our GM put in.  Granted, that’s their job, we do it for (fun?).  Still, we should all probably just chill out with the negative feelings (I know I will have them), because these guys really did put in the effort to make the team better, and hopefully, it actually works.

I’m going to give you my picks for each round, without trade ups or trade downs, because those are just too hard to predict, it requires a lot of cooperation and desire from another team or two, and therefore, I’ll just do it straight up.  This draft is not who I want for our team, it’s how I expect it to happen.

RD 1 – Pick #13  RB Ohio State  – Ezekiel Elliott

First of all, let’s put that myth that if he’s elite, he’ll be gone by pick #10 nonsense, and if he’s not, he’ll be there.  Great NFL players are chosen all over the place, and these selections are made by a few parameters, GRADE, NEED (at a certain position) and VALUE.  Every team will have different metrics on those, and many teams obviously have different needs for both position, and the type of players they want to fill those positions.  For example, while Vernon Hargreaves may  be rated very high on most boards, a team that prefers bigger CB’s may not have him on their board early at all.  So back to Elliott.  He would most definitely be our best RB if he were to join our team.

Much has been made of Adam Gase’s use of a “running back by committee”.  I think it’s only fair to look at each situation, and why that may have been.  In Denver 2013,  first off, Gase had Peyton Manning., who threw the ball 659 times for nearly 5500 yards.  The Broncos drafted Montee Ball, and added him to a stable with Knowshown Moreno, Ronnie Hillman, and and CJ Anderson.  Moreno carried the ball 241 times, more than double the carries Montee Ball got at 120 carries. Is that really a RB by committee?  In 2014, again, Manning put up astronomical numbers, 597 pass attempts, over 4700 yards.  With Knowshown Moreno out of the picture, and Montee ball fat and out of shape, and fumbling often, Gase had little choice to try and find the hot hand.  CJ Anderson rushed 179 times, for 849 yards, and Ronnie Hillman 106 times, for 434.  Keep in mind, Ronnie Hillman was the better 3rd down back, and most of his action was on 3rd down, but again, the RB by committee aspect doesn’t necessarily show up, because the talent just simply wasn’t there to earn the bulk of the carries.

In Chicago, 2015, Adam Gase had 30 YO Matt Forte,  rookie Jeremy Langford, and 2nd YR RB Ka’Deem Carey.  Just for some background, Forte has never really been a bellcow RB, the most carries he had in his career was his rookie season when had a high of 316 carries.  He never broke 300 again, and has been slowly diminishing in carries the last few years, from 289 in ’13, to 266 in ’14, and last year 218.  Langford carried 148 times, and  Carey 43.  Clearly, Forte was his best guy, but at 30 YO, he didn’t overwork him, and for the most part, Chicago’s offense was a disappointment, despite Jay Cutler playing at his most efficient, with 21 TD’s and only 11 INT’s.  They sorely missed Brandon Marshall last season, and when Alshon Jeffery got hurt, that was it for this offense.

My point is, I don’t believe that Gase has a strategy to use his running backs nearly equally.  I think he had to in Denver, out of necessity, and in Chicago, he didn’t want to burn out his 30 year old star in Matt Forte.  Gase did say he wants a stable of RB’s, and I think that’s the responsible thing to do, considering what can happen if there’s a severe drop off in talent from your starter to your reserves.  make no mistake, if we draft Ezekiel Elliott, he will clearly be our best RB, and we will use him as such.   He will make a huge impact in our offense.

RD 2 – Pick #42  CB Houston – William Jackson III

We have a definite need at CB, no question about it, and we get the best we can in the 2nd RD.  Jackson gives another 6 foot CB who can play both press and zone coverage.  A good fit for what we’re looking for, Jackson will certainly be given every opportunity to start opposite Byron Maxwell.

RD 3 – Pick #73  OG Stanford – Joshua Garnett

As much as we need a CB, we need to shore up the interior OL.  We get the powerful OG Garnett from Stanford.  Garnett also will be given every opportunity to start somewhere on the OL, most likely LG, to compete with vet Jermon Bushrod.  That will leave a battle royale at RG, with Billy Turner, Jamil Douglas,  and Kraig Urbik .

RD 4  – Pick #107  OLB Akron –  Jatavis Brown

Excellent athletic player, with wheels (4.47 40).  Driven, team oriented player, lunch pail type of guy.  A little undersized at 5’11” 227, but a great guy to bring into the mix at OLB.

RD 5 – Pick #147   S Miami –  Deon Bush

Bush is a physical player who likes to hit, and when he does, forces fumbles.  Bush forced 5 fumbles in 2014.  He can also go up and get the ball with his 39 1/2″vertical.  Bush has only 4 INT’s in 4 years, along with 13 passes defensed.  Could be a good player down the line.

RD 6 – Pick #186  CB Virginia – Maurice Canady

Canady brings another CB with size to the team.  Not a physical player, but a player with talent that perhaps VJ can bring out.

RD 7 – Pick #227  DE Baylor  –  Shawn Oakman

Oakman is probably worth a flier in the 7th RD.  he could easily end up off the team before the season, but maybe, the light goes on, and he becomes a player.  I’d take tht chance this late in the game.

RD 7 – Pick #231   WR  Illinois – Geronimo Allison

OK, so I really just want to scream Genonimo!!!!!!  Do I take a chance and try to sign him after the draft?  No way!!!

The sheer embarrassment of what happened is the best thing that could’ve happened.
He’ll never want to look like such a fool ever again. Time to be a man & protect my boy Tannehill for several years as we dominate the AFC East once again!!!

  2. Phins were trying to get back into the 1st but the price was too steep. They may have been trying to double down on offensive linemen. They loved Ifedi from what I understand and he’s a guy who can kick inside and play guard. Ifedi went at the end of the 1st. Will be interesting to see if they attempt to trade up tomorrow. If not, Ifedi was probably the guy.

  3. rgs322 says:

OK, just got caught up with round 1. Had to DVR it. Just a few thoughts…

Love the pick!!! I just never thought Tunsil would be available, let’s just hope these off field issues are behind him. He was one of my top 3 guys since December along with Ramsey and Jack. Unfortunately Jack fell on my list due to that knee issue.

Now let’s go get Bullard, another one of my man crushes since December. Then maybe Deion Jones, Cyrus Jones, and a RB with our other picks.

  4. drg says:

Thumbs up here. Fills a big need and allows team to let go of Albert if he gets too expensive relative to the return. Hard to say no if Jack is there in 2nd. I’d be good with Booker there too. Gotta find some DBs soon though…

  5. jetsssuck says:

gotta give our Taub VP credit in 1 year he has rebuilt both offensive and defensive trenches very quickly. If we can get our LT to move to guard which he played in college then we can have a really good team. But lets remember that is why B.Albert was let go because he didn’t want to be moved to guard so KC let him walk and drafted the LT they wanted.

  6. jetsssuck says:

If we can Albert to move to guard then we can draft RB Alabama kid who is good runner between tackle. We will be able to pound the ball and rest our defense 6-8 plays a game.

    • jetsssuck says:

time of possession should change to our favor big time. Joe Rose says the team OL s finally fixed if albert makes the move to guard or if our RT moves to RG.

  7. jetsssuck says:

Derrick Henry who goes 247LBS we want him. Smash mouth football is BACK if it happens.

  8. jetsssuck says:

Joe Rose says we could have best OL in NFL if everything works out if we can get 1st rounder to move to guard or Albert to guard.

  9. naplesfan2010 says:

    LT Tunsil/Young
    LG Albert/Turner/Thomas
    C Pouncey/Douglas
    RG Bushrod/Urbik
    RT James//Young

  10. Tim Knight says:

Tunsil helps deepen our OL, find the best 5, no need to jettison Albert or move him around. Let it work itself out. Remember, Albert, Pouncey and James have played like 7 games together, this adds stability to the OL and makes us stronger. OL was a big need and a top prospect fell to us.

  11. 81Howie says:

I just heard the disturbing news about our 1st round pick… Typical Dolphins!
Might as well sign Johnny Dumb Ass when he gets out of rehab and/or Prison…
    DUHHH!

    • Tim Knight says:

Seriously? Tunsil was a top 3 pick who fell do to social media. That video was 2 years old and the kid’s stepdad is an asshole.

  12. jetsssuck says:

AJ Hawk was released by Bengals and we have DC who coached at cincy? interesting that he played inside and outside with bengals.

  13. Rockphin says:

of course everything still remains to be seen when we actually take the field in September but in light of how the draft fell last night I give two thumbs up to the trade with Philadelphia. We got 3 potential starters with one pick as well as 3 potentially elite players. IF Kiko can return to form from his rookie season he is an elite middle linebacker tonsil has the potential to be an elite All-Pro left tackle and Maxwell has the potential to be a very good Corner in our system.

  14. Tim Knight says:

Tunsil has the highest grade according to NFL.com
    http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/tracker#dt-tabs:dt-by-round

  15. 81Howie says:

The Orlando news only told me he was smoking a bong.
If you say he is OK the I will go with it.
    Gotta Go 🙂

  16. Rockphin says:

Now the team just needs to make sure that Tunsil is not partying at Mike pouncey’s house with Molly

  17. Tim Knight says:

OMG, a young guy smoked weed in college and defended his Mom against an abusive stepdad. Oh the horror. Let’s keep it real.

  18. son of a son of a shula says:

Howie it was just weed, a bong and a gas mask what’s the big deal? LOL

If he played anything other than O-line he’d be vilified like no other on this board, but be a first round Oliner and you walk on water. Me, I don’t care about the weed but I hope he can focus long enough to learn the playbook.

  19. son of a son of a shula says:

Gives the term – stonewalling – his opponent a little bit of a different meaning…

  20. son of a son of a shula says:

Can we just affectionately name him – Bonghit?

Did you see the block Bonghit put on that guy?
    Yeah Bonghit wasted him maaan…

  21. jetsssuck says:

anyone see the background of a rebel flag when he was doing a bong hit.

  22. Tim Knight says:

The video was 2 years ago. The kid (Tunsil) was being smeared by someone uh-hem… and at the end of the day he won, he was drafted #13. Look back at what happened to La’el Collins last year who didn’t get drafted because his former girlfriend was murdered. He had nothing to do with it but it affected his draft status.

Son, it has nothing to do with what position he plays. He had the highest grade in the draft at 7.6. By comparison, Ramsey was a 6.8 most likely due to what position he plays CB or S?

  23. Mike E. says:

LMAO!!! Gov. Chris Christie is on WFAN with Carton making fun of the Dolphins for taking Laremy Tunsil. He said Tunsil would have been off his board for his behavior. Meanwhile, if the stinkin’ Jets traded up to #12 to get him, it would have been a great move. Christie is a loser anyway. He’s done!

    • Tim Knight says:

Christie is a Cowboys fan. LOL

      • Mike E. says:

That wasn’t the point. If the Jets made that move, he’d fall in line, and bless the pick, and say how smart the Jets were to get the best player in the draft, and Carton would too.

      • son of a son of a shula says:

Not necessarily, he’s more of a billionaire fan.

    • son of a son of a shula says:

Christie is hard anti-drug, he said in one of the debates that he’d Federally put an end to what the State of Colorado did with legal recreational use.

  24. Mike E. says:

    Son

Good thing Christie isn’t a GM of a football team, he wouldn’t be able to field a team.

  25. Mike E. says:

I can’t believe our own fans are pissing on this pick. That really surprises me. Off to work, see ya later.

  26. Tim Knight says:

Mike, I was just saying Christie said he was a Cowboys fan when he was on with Joe and Evan last week.

  27. Tim Knight says:

Jetssuck, that video was two years ago. Tunsil has passed every drug test. He’s being smeared by a disgruntled stepdad who he beat down because the guy assaulted his Mom.

Think about it like this. You go on an interview for a big job and someone texts the guy you’re about to interview with a video of you doing something 2 years ago that puts you in a bad light.

But at the end of the day all he was doing was being a young person partying like millions of other young kids. Let’s keep it real.

  28. Tim Knight says:

    Can Tunsil play LG?

  29. markeyh says:

This was a GREAT pick you can find no mock out of the millions out there that had Tunsil on the board at 13…..low risk high reward!

  30. Rockphin says:

one of the Talking Heads last night on NFL Network was saying that Tunsil has “elite feet” watching his highlight he really does move his feet really fast for a 310 pound guy

  31. jetsssuck says:

If tensil is moved to RG or RT we will have a all sec right side.

  32. New Age says:

    Mike,

Report: Jets tried to trade for Tunsil, but price was too high

Such a poor move the Jets were trying to trade up to get. We got elite talent and screwed the Jets? Perfect first night.!

  33. Tim Knight says:

Grier said Tunsil was #2 on their board. My guess is Elliot or Ramsey was #1.

  34. jetsssuck says:

this is the pick that turned the bad luck that has been hanging over this franchise for the last 10-12 yrs. No team has been hit harder concerning the OL than us.

    • Tim Knight says:

It does feel like that. The media will show that bong video over and over from 2 years ago yet Tunsil has passed every drug test leading up to the draft. It’s a non-factor and we got the highest rated prospect. BPA all the way! 🙂

      • jetsssuck says:

maybe with the media showing the video he will be more focused easier with a chip on his shoulders.

      • Tim Knight says:

I’m sure he has a major chip on his shoulder.

      • jetsssuck says:

and we got him for 5 years with the rookie CBA contract. You know he will be playing for big contract with money lost with his fall.

  35. dbolt48 says:

LMAO….People will NEVER be happy. The team just landed one of the top 2 prospects in the draft & people complain.

  36. Brian in NY says:

    Tim,
Albert said he was a LT when he was with KC because he wanted LT money. Yes, some guards are getting paid well but they are usually elite at their position. I could see either Albert or Tunsil playing LT, but my guess would be Tunsil.

    • Tim Knight says:

Maybe. Albert is a seasoned vet though who showed his fight last year coming back from season ending knee surgery and playing well. He’s healthy now. I think he’ll be a good influence on Tunsil and it is likely they’ll be lining up next to each other.

  37. Brian in NY says:

I woke up this AM and I love the Tunsil pick even more today. He was the #1 rated prospect on a lot of people’s boards, and we got him at 13. FINALLY We have luck on our side! This, combined with the Brady suspension and the magic of Disney, has made it a great week!

  38. Rhino says:

Is it o.k. to at least buy the kool aid packets? 🙂 I won’t actually mix it yet… I just want to have it ready.

  39. Rhino says:

It’s nice to wake up the day after the first round and have all the media outlets talking about how the Dolphins got the steal of the draft.

  40. Mike E. says:

    New Age

That’s awesome man!!! Thanks so much for posting that. Just makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. lol

  41. Tim Knight says:

    LT Albert/Tunsil
    LG Albert/Tunsil
    C Pouncey
    RG Urbik/Turner
    RT James
    🙂

    • markeyh says:

If they can stay healthy that will be one hell of a line….

      • Tim Knight says:

There’s a helluva lot more talent there than what we played with last year. Keeping them healthy is key but we just got deeper in a major way.

        Go Tunsil!!!! Go Phins!!!!

  42. Tim Knight says:

So, what do we do at #42?

  43. markeyh says:

    *Derrick Henry

  44. sb7mvp says:

    Hunter Henry

  45. Mike E. says:

    jetssuck

That’s a very tough blow for the Marlins. That kid is a great all around player, one of the best I’ve seen in a while.

  46. Tim Knight says:

Ryan Tannehill hearing the news we landed Tunsil. LOL

  47. dbolt48 says:

    Tim,
At 42 I could see them going Noah Spence.

  48. Rockphin says:

    From Dave Hyde:

Tunsil lost big-time. If he had been taken sixth in Baltimore, his projected contract would have been $20.5 million. If eighth, his contract would be $15.9 million. At 13th? His projected deal is $12.5 million. So he potentially lost $8 million because of this. Ouch.

  49. Mike E. says:

I’d be extremely happy if we drafted Ragland at #42. That would be some HR with Tunsil and Ragland

  50. Mike E. says:

Where’s Manitoba? Does Canada get the draft a day late? lol

  51. Ken says:

It is being reported Jets tried to trade up to get Tunsil. I am all Bruce Banner today

  52. stangerx says:

Somebody out there don’t like Tunsil and both cost him millions and got him to us.

Two most likely options I see are someone was trying to blackmail him and his step father that he had the beef with.

    • Tim Knight says:

No doubt. His stepdad filed a lawsuit against him the day before the draft and then Tunsil finds out about the video in the green room of the draft. It doesn’t take Scotland Yard for that one. LOL

  53. sb7mvp says:

At least the crawfish were on point last night.

  54. stangerx says:

Four guys who didn’t like the Tunsil pick — everyone thinking they would start on the line other than Pouncey.

  55. Ken says:

Almost everyone saying may have gotten steal of the draft

    • stangerx says:

Hard to argue the value. Also a long term pick, which I like even if means we may haf holes on the D next year.

      • Ken says:

There are a handful of guys in any draft that are potential difference makers. In thi draft Tunsil is one of them. We could not pass that up

      • Tim Knight says:

        Yep! Easily the BPA.

      • stangerx says:

I’m right with you and I would have done the same. Still leaves three high-end tackles though….so not a now move. To me that might be a sign of setting it right for down the road and that next season will not be the priority (which to me it shouldn’t be).

  56. The Flying Pig says:

    1. Myles Jack
    2. Mackensie Alexander
    3. Ragland
    4. Ogbah
    5. Dodd
    6 Kenneth Dixon
    7. Jeremy cash

That is basically the Piggy big board

  57. BoulderPhinfan says:

Wow what a great morninng. I’m pretty happy about our pick. Now lets go get ourselves a starting CB and we’re golden.

  58. Ken says:

Now get Alexander or Henry or Ogbah

  59. Mike E. says:

    Jack
    Ragland
    Dodd
    Ogbah
    Davis
    Spence

  60. Mike E. says:

If Sean Davis is there, I can see him being the pick

  61. stangerx says:

So guess this means we don’t go G on 2nd day.

Leaves DE, LB, CB and RB as needs. Can only hit two of them with possible legit starters.

I’m guess we end up with an RB and a CB. The other two can wait till either later in the draft or next year.

  62. Rockphin says:

I just hope the coaches can figure out where to play everyone and that the line gels in time for the season and that they can all stay relatively healthy for the entire year.

    Offensive line 2014 – weakness
Offensive line 2015 – potential strength
Wide receivers – Studs or potential studs across the board.
Tight ends – Serviceable / potentially good
Running backs – Need help, but Ajayi has huge potential.
    Tannehill – Still sucks. (LOL)

With a new scheme and coaches who are not brainless when it comes to situation play calling we have the POTENTIAL to have a very good offense. Now go out and learn the system and get everyone on the same page before the season starts!

WOOOO HOOOO! no more route trees that condense the opposing defenses into tight areas of the field! No more bubble screens on 3rd & 15! no more fake reverse reverses!

  63. stangerx says:

And the gas mask thing is stupid anyhow. Back in college when was partaking hated when smoke got in my eyes. Who wants to make that happen? Would have more respect for Tunsil if they had him doing a three-footer.

  64. Mike E. says:

    Tim

Not sure I want a spend a 2nd RD pick on a guy without a true position. We need CB’s, pass rushing DE’s, and LB’s. Just how I feel.

    • Tim Knight says:

No biggie. He’s not my only option, I just think he’s a really good football player. He lined up at LDE quite a bit.

  65. Rockphin says:

I have no idea what the FO is going to do tonight. They may surprise us all and keep going BPA even if it is not a position of need. They DID say there were going to approach this draft that way…..but you cannot believe what teams say this time of year.

A’Shawn Robinson could be the pick.
Henry Hunter could be the pick
Chris Jones could be the pick
Cody Whitehair could be the pick
Jonathan Bullard could be the pick

Just GO GET SOME GOOD PLAYERS!

  66. BoulderPhinfan says:

    Ray Roy ‎@RoyRay7777
@ArmandoSalguero With the 13th pick in the 2016 NFL draft…the Miami Dolphins select Byron Maxwell, Kiko Alonso, and Laremy Tunsil.

  67. The Flying Pig says:

Albeit the NFL has spoken about Jacks knee and dos not think he was worthy of a first

It doesn’t mean he’s not worth a second

He’s still the best player in the board IMO
It just depends how bad it is whether it’s worth the rail

I forgot to add Sua Cravens

  68. BoulderPhinfan says:

I think we would have been happy if we got tunsil at 8. We got him at 13 and got 2 other starters.

They’re risky but its a risk I think we should have taken. The upside is huge.

  69. Rockphin says:

    Tim Knight says:
    April 29, 2016 at 9:51 am

And we didn’t overspend in FA.:)

and we did not effect our potential compensatory draft picks for next year either. (yet)

  70. The Flying Pig says:

I had Jack and Alexander as top 10 talent
    As well as Tunsil
I had Ragland as top 15

Admitting I didn’t spend much time looking at WRs DTs this year
I knew I was in the minority with Alexander
And there was a risk jack dropped bc of the knee injury

But the talent in the 2nd is pretty ridiculous

And adding Dodd and Ogbah who I thought might come of the board makes it even deeper

I guess Garnett and Neal were the big 1st round surprises
I liked both of them and had wedge reports in each of them

But I didn’t expect them to go in the first

    Kinda a weird draft

  71. Mike E. says:

Doesn’t GDP love him Sean Davis? I really think he could be our next pick, if he’s still on the board.

  72. The Flying Pig says:

There is s report that the jests tried to trade up for Tunsil but could not

So enjoy having your cake and eating it too

  73. Mike E. says:

Where is GDP? Draft hangover? lol

  74. Tim Knight says:

Agent Jimmy Sexton is Tannenbaum and Gase’s agent, oh and Tunsil’s as well. You think they know something about the kid? LOL

  75. Rockphin says:

While I am happy that we got one of the best players at their position last night. It is such a “boring” pick being another big ugly.

    • Tim Knight says:

It won’t be when Tannehill is upright hitting Landry, Parker and Stills for big gains. 🙂

      Big picture…

      • Rockphin says:

but, but, but….Tannehill sucks. The O-line wasn’t the problem. It has been said on here 100’s of times…(by 2 -3 guys) so it must be true right? LOL They should have traded back and taken Lynch. 😉

  76. The Flying Pig says:

    I wish we had another 2nd rounder….lol

  77. Ken says:

    Piggy:
You are right. Cravens would be a good upcoming pick if we went that way.

  78. Rockphin says:

BPA BPA BPA BPA! that is all.

  79. Tim Knight says:

    LOL @ Rock

Watch what management does to cure our ills, not what people far from the situation say. If you open your eyes you see the issue without a bias. 🙂

  80. Ken says:

    PIggy:
The Jets trying to get Tunsil and we land him makes the pick all the more sweeter.

  81. Rockphin says:

    Spotrac ‎@spotrac

Laremy Tunsil also stands to lose another $3M+ should the #Dolphins exercise his 5th-year option (picks 1-10 earn more than picks 11-32).

So whoever the asshole was that released the video (probably the step father that is suing him) cost Tunsil between 8-11 million dollars because of him falling out of the top 10. I would beat his ass again!

    • Ken says:

Fuck that. Thank you Step Dad on behalf of all Dolphin fans.

      • Rockphin says:

I mean if I was Tunsil I would beat his ass again. I’m glad we got him, and got him without trading up or having to pay him the additional 8-11 Mil but man the kid got screwed.

  82. Rockphin says:

If you open your eyes you see the issue without a bias.:)

But Tim, we have been told repeatedly and strenuously that the stats mean nothing and that it is the eyeball test that he fails! SMH I don’t know who to listen to anymore. LOL

    • Tim Knight says:

Well when 3 defenders are in the backfield within a second way too often I see a problem. LOL

      • Rockphin says:

I’ve heard it’s because of his piss poor pocket presence. If he was really any good he would get the ball off on those deep routes that were “always open” before the D could get to him. LOL!

  83. Ken says:

I know what you mean Rock the Step dad really did fuck the kid over but he is still going to be a millionaire and with the right people he is set for life.

  84. Rockphin says:

I have a TON of work to do and I am behind on several estimates that need to get out, but I cannot bring myself to do any work! Sigh, I might have to come in on Sunday for fucking off today. (not Saturday because I will be drinking and watching the draft!)

  85. The Flying Pig says:

Tunsil’s stepdad is a real POS

If you don’t know about the suit its a lawsuit for basically assault and defamation
Apperantly Tunsil and his stepfather got into a fight and both accused the other of attacking each other to the police
Tunsil says he was defending his mother, and I guess that is where the defamation comes in

So then he files suit a couple of days before the draft?
    Okay interesting timing
then some one hacks Tunsils twitter?

dude is clearly a scumbag trying to blackmail his stepson

the patheticness of some people amazes me

I’m sure Tunsil counterclaims for damages (worth a lot more) over the drat tumble and twitter hack

the stepdad probably going to end up with nothing

    • Ken says:

The stepdad coming up with nothing is as it should be.

      • The Flying Pig says:

        I feel bad for Tunsil
its not like he chose his stepdad

I see it all the time
some one has a POS family member that they interferes with their life and they can’t get away from

      • Ken says:

I hear you Piggy but on the bright side the kid still landed on his feet with a large life changing contract but less than it otherwise would have been. Also if he is half the player as advertised he is going to get endorsement deals and other substantial supplemental income. He will be alright. Still doesn’t change the fact that the step dad is a scumbag though.

  86. getterdone says:

Here I am Mike, been too stoned all morning. Fell asleep with the mask still on after the draft last nite….whoa dood…..

  87. Rockphin says:

Man, slow day fishing. No nibbles. LOL

  88. Mike E. says:

Tunsil’s stepdad is an ass. If he’s suing him, wouldn’t he want him to make as much $$$ as possible, so he can get more? Duh!

  89. BoulderPhinfan says:

I can’t believe some of the idiot writers (like cote) don’t think tunsil was a position of need. The best tackle in the draft for a team that has a QB that’s been sacked more than anyone else in the league is not a position of need?

    • Ken says:

It really doesn’t matter if it was technically a need or not (OG was really the need) He was by far the most talented player on the board at that point and you can’t pass up that kind of talent. He or Albert can play OG for the time being and we are better because of that.

    • Rockphin says:

well in the idiot writers defense we have two HEALTHY good starters at OT now. Our depth sucked and our OG’s were below average / bad, but tackle when they are healthy is not a “need” per se. I still like the forward thinking of taking him though. Albert has not been able to stay healthy and he is 31 going to be 32 so it’s good to get his replacement now.

    • The Flying Pig says:

they are idiots and thinking in a very narrow way

Albeit we are fine at OT and Center with the current roster
Clearly the OL needed to get better as a whole

And when you factor in injuries to Albert and hat has happened the last OL the last few years
I think you had to think of improving OL as a whole as a need instead of – we need an OG

I don’t know how they work this but I think either Albert or Tunsil moves inside
and if there is an injury on the OL to Anlbert, James or Tunsil then the other two are the tackles and some one slides up to play LG

CB, LB and RB remain needs
I think the 2nd round may address one of those needs
(probably defensive) and you can add a RB to share carries with Ajayi in the 3rd or 4th round

CB seems like the real pressing issue in the 2nd

We speculated the Dolphins might go OL and CB in the first 2 rounds to address immediate needs

They might be able to do it and draft BPA at the same time

  90. The Flying Pig says:

    I totally agreed
He dropped based on FO insecurity

But in the other hand once we got past 10 teams had time to figure out what was going on

I really don’t understand the move the Ravens and Titans made

  91. Mike E. says:

    Piggy

On NFL Radio last night, they interviewed Conklin. He said as soon as Tennessee traded up, he knew right away he was being picked. he said they worked him out, and met with him for quite a while, and felt all along they were going to draft him. Sometimes it’s just a fit thing. They love the kids makeup, and physical nature.

    • Ken says:

And I love the fact they passed on Tunsil who is substantially more talented than Conklin

      • Mike E. says:

Me too Ken, but I’m just pointing out that Conklin was a guy they really liked, and they went and got their guy. Good for them. He’ll probably be a good player for them too.

    • Ken says:

They likely did not expect Tunsil to be there and panicked when the tweet came out and took the guy they assumed they were going to get.

      • The Flying Pig says:

Yeah – I think they didn’t expect Tunsil to be there and kinda went into panick mode by sticking with the plan

I really thought they were going to pull off a coo with picking Tunsil after trading down to give up a shot at tunsil

    • The Flying Pig says:

but I think part of that is the expeaction Tunsil would be gone

I think the Titans now have a pretty scrappy OL though
they’ve invested a lot in the OL
      Conklin is a good player
but I think its hard to say Tunsil is not just better

They can use a little more talent at the skill position to make everything come together

  92. getterdone says:

Boulder, the local sports writers are clueless, I should be getting their salaries!!!
A premiere LT is always a position of need. Look how the Ravens had Eugene Monroe, then paid big in FA for Russell Okung, and yet still drafted Ronnie Stanley

    • BoulderPhinfan says:

agreed. The last 2 years we’ve been getting killed because our tackles have been injured. This was a solid move if tunsil stays clean.

  93. The Flying Pig says:

    There you have it
    And it’s a smart move
If Albert or James are injured
    He slides over
Until Albert retires he is being groomed to play a premier position
No pressure on the young kid – who has a lot going on right now

  94. BoulderPhinfan says:

    piggy,
I agree CB is the biggest need now.

    • The Flying Pig says:

but I think LB is still a need and you have to look at the talent on the board

The best CB on the board is alexander IMO
and he would be a great pick even if we passed ragland and Jack
but if he is gone – maybe we need to go in another direction

Albeit Sean Davis and Howard might do the trick
but to me, they aren’t; BPA

  95. The Flying Pig says:

    So

    Albert Tunsil Pouncey ? James
and I guess you have Turner, Thomas, Douglas and Bushrod competiting to play RG

That’s 8 players deep at OL and throw Young into the mix and its solid depth there

    • Ken says:

The OL is finally shaping up to look really nice. The FA pick ups of Young, Bushrod and Urbik plus Tunsil in the draft can really have a significant impact on our team this year.

      • The Flying Pig says:

        think its complete

maybe you pick up an late round interior guy
but other than that we can focus on defense and RB for the next couple of picks

The next 4-5 picks should be among 5 positions CB, LB, S, RB, and DE
I know the board controls but There will be decent players at thos epositions

  96. wyoming85 says:

    • The Flying Pig says:

Its really personel family stuff out in the limelight and out of the blue for him

      totally unfair to him

Mike and Mike (dbags) were talking about it as the excitement of the draft
I’m gald it worked out for the Dolphins
but its really sad that a kid has to experience that
there is nothing exciting about that

His POS stepdad is trying to blackmail him and knows the media will eat it up
      Its sad

    • wyoming85 says:

You need to read this one!!!!!!!

    • Ken says:

      Great post by Matty I

  97. Ken says:

Tunsil to start at OG. Fine with me. He can kick over to OT in case of injury and is heir apparent to Albert at LT. All good imo.

    • BoulderPhinfan says:

I agree. he should play LG next year IMO

      Armando Salguero ‎@ArmandoSalguero
Friends (and others), the Dolphins’ decision to start out Laremy Tunsil at OG is the right call.

  98. Ken says:

I am feeling a Bruce Banner like calm coming over me.

  99. Mike E. says:

    So GDP

You really like Sean Davis right? I think he could be our next pick

  100. sb7mvp says:

    Sedano is never right.
