Even though hunting is outlawed within the national parks of Zimbabwe, ten men were illegally hunting for elephants last month within the park’s boundaries when they stumbled upon twenty adult Southwest African lions. The pride of lions were not exactly, you know, expecting human visitors, so they immediately attacked the intruders. The attack was so instantaneous that five of the ten men were killed, three severely injured, and two lightly injured. The animals were mostly unhurt. The men who survived the attack ran to a nearby village for medical help where they were promptly arrested. Ah, karma!
“The men were visibly traumatized by the attack,” said Commissioner-General Chihuri,“and after seeing their injuries and the remains of their dead comrades, I can see why. These guys were tough criminals carrying ak-47s, but they were literally shred to pieces and devoured by the lions. I have never seen an animal attack reach this level of violence, and I have seen a lot!”
We have some cops who use excessive force against black people too often then we get a black people vs. white people war as if we’re all the same and we all get along just because we share skin color. Can you be any more ignorant than that?

Because there is a disproportionate amount of Black folks who experience excessive force, bias, fear, and incarceration. The numbers do not lie. Black folk are preyed upon.

Surely black people face more excessive force, bias and fear than other races, as a percent. Black people shouldn’t try to change the police they should change themselves. Get an education, respect law enforcement, don’t resist authority. When the police stop fearing blacks the excessive force will decrease. I would bet the percent of blacks that do what the police tell them to do and still get subject to excessive force is very small.
I don’t condone what these cops are doing, there are plenty that are assholes and think they’re above the law, all people have to be held accountable for their own actions. We know cops use excessive force, so don’t test them. We know lions kill people, if they’re trapped in a cage with one, so why would anyone go in a lion cage or habitat?
Numbers do not lie! 123 blacks compared to just 238 whites when to consider the percentage factor of the races it is not even close. In fact there are more Hispanics in this country than blacks and they even have a lower number than blacks.

The problem is the Lions are not caged they are loose in our society and they are preying on Black folk. How is it testing them when they are the aggressor? If you have never been stopped for “DRIVING BLACK” than can you really speak with intelligence on this subject? NO! You show the same ignorance and simpleminded thinking many do who have their heads buried in the sand. Because they really don’t care unless it hits home when a mentally ill black person attacks white folks.
Many police are aggressive, arrogant and antagonizing towards the poor (Black Folk). They know that there is a high probability stopping a certain vehicle that exhibits the “signs” that a black person is driving as well as just profiling black folks that they have the ability to excuse their illegal stops any way they want. When you have been harassed, illegally stopped, searched and arrested you too might then exhibit some frustration over being harassed.
Many Black people do get an education, show respect to the police and still lose their lives over simple things like selling CD’s, or cigarettes, or driving with a broken tail light? How would you feel if your 12 year old son playing with a BB gun in a park is executed two seconds after a police officer pulled up to the scene? Too many of these cases are now being exposed but have been a fabric of the black community forever. When will it stop? Racism is real and close behind it is the apathy of the majority of our society. The outrage that the Zoo had to kill a Gorilla to save a young Black boy is another example of how BLACK LIVES DO NOT MATTER to the majority the NUMBERS DO NOT LIE!!!!!! Simple Math!!!!!!

• 5 times as many Whites are using drugs as African Americans, yet African Americans are sent to prison for drug offenses at 10 times the rate of Whites

The sad truth is even with video evidence we still see acquittals of the carelessness if not out right negligence and murder of too many innocent Black Lives.
Markey, we all roughly know the numbers and aren’t debating what you’re saying, but what I’m saying is black people can’t control what cops do to them, unless they change themselves. What black people can control is changing their attitude, are comply more with the expected laws of nature. When I was a kid my dad taught me, when you get pulled over, you do what you’re told, you don’t cop an attitude, and you don’t say well that car did…or you might get shot.
markeyh — I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that African-Americans get profiled. Remember reading an interview with Marcus Allen back when he was in the NFL. He had been pulled over driving so often that eventually he got a letter from the Chief of Police that he kept in his car. It basically said “This is Marcus Allen, star running back for the Raiders….and the Mercedes is his.”
Being a white as Wonderbread guy, can’t even fathom what that is like. Without defending any kind of racism, will note how things have improved over our lifetimes and our parents lifetimes. Think about what it was like in the 50’s and 60’s…..heck even in the 80’s.
Have been struck with how such issues have come more and more to the fore recently. I hear some say things have gotten worse, but just don’t believe that. You might not like it, but I think things have improved enough that African-Americans are aggressively addressing the parts of it that are still there.
I agree things are improved but there is still a long way to go even now. We can not settle because things have improved we need to press on until the day comes when I can walk the streets as safe as you can, Or I can earn the money many of you can without being limited because the color of my skin. Education alone will not solve these issues but legislation and just the decency of the majority race to give a damn!

This is true in some cases, but the fact of the matter is you can’t lump eveyone into one category. Example:
I have an acquantaince who is African-American, as is his wife. They are both very well educated (they are doctors) who are upstanding citizens and have never been in trouble with the law. They are about as mild mannered as they come. They recently bought a house in an upscale neighborhood, and their concerns, along with what dining room table to choose, was how they would be looked upon by the neighbors, and how their children would be treated. They said the second their children were discriminated against, they would pick up and move. She laments the fact that she has to teach her kids to be meeek and mild mannered, and to not look people in the eye when talking to them, instead of being assertive , traits that we teach our kids in order for them to be successful. This is just one example of what minorities go through, something you or I could never imagine experiencing.
Obviously there are cases like this, lots of them. The problem is the % of blacks that are uneducated or only educated enough to get a low paying job is far too high, and that needs to change.
There are a lot of “Educated Blacks” that still have to deal with the same issues in our society that the uneducated do. It’s about being Black……when will apathetic victim blamer’s get a clue?
I’m not debating it happens to educated blacks. When the group as a whole changes, things will change. There’s too many knuckleheads that are black by %, that are ruining it for the rest.
These issues are being exploited by both the political and media factions as it becomes a focal point EVERY election year. Race baiting by both parties and then the hypocrisy of both parties who practice division while getting up on their perch and call for unity.
We are a failed society and God is the only one who can help us all.
You have to help yourself, do what you can, so you don’t get put in those situations. Police brutality happens to whites too, it just happens to blacks a lot more on a %.
One day when you realize you too can help and realize that the world from your backyard is different from mine and that it’s not just about the Police brutality but it is STILL about the color of your skin that you can benefit while others with a different pigment will always have obstacles and barriers YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH that make it hard to survive then you too will have woke up!
Markeyh — no haven’t lived with your skin color. But have worked for, with, and had employees who were African Americans over the years. And not once have heard a comment about their race in any kind of negative way. They were all judged for who they were and what they were doing.
Most of these were real professional type situations, but not all were. Guess it works given recent events — in college years one of my bosses was head of a big company mail room who supervised not just me but a whole bunch of retired ex-cops who were paid much more than they should have been as a “break-glass-in-case-of emergency” force. We all respected and liked him, and for good reason.
And yeah their are white trash bigots out there, but doesn’t every large group of millions have idiots in it? But most of use white folks aren’t looking down on anyone. Maybe the question for us is how much obligation we have to do anything other than treat each person for who they are without regard to race.
Take college applications. I’m not a fan of affirmative action. Don’t think Michael Jordan’s kid should be admitted because he his black. I do however look at socioeconomic factors. So yes I think a kid from a bad neighborhood should get a leg up just cause of what he has had to deal with……whatever his race.
We really need to do a better job as citizens when dealing with each other. Most people of all races and color just want to live a good life and raise their kids to do the same. We all want the same things. But when people feel despair, they resort to all kinds of behavior to survive in any way they can. We should really try to help young people before they lose all self control. Some adults may be too far gone, but if we can help them when they’re young we can change lives for the better.
When you have a Country that spends more money to put one or both of the parents of these young people in prison than maybe fix the broken education system in the black communities, or help create meaningful employment and living wages it proves that they not only want these problems but need them.
I fully understand your points I just do not think and or agree that that is the solution. The higher percent of the population needs to take action the question is what will it take for them to want to do something about it? When we can all agree there is a problem and come up with real solutions to fix the problem we will always have a problem.
And there in itself is the problem, both sides want the other side to change, but don’t want to do enough to change themselves.
You’re always going to have police shootings, because people do stupid things on both sides, and because officer safety is at stake. I watched a video recently I think it was the one in Minn. The guy had a permit to carry a concealed weapon, told the cop he had one, but went into his pocket to get his ID and the cop thought he was going for his gun, and fatally shot him. Because it was a white cop and a black man of course the racial thing comes out, but watching that video the cop feared for his own safety, the shooting had nothing to do with the color of skin.
So you tell a cop you have a license to carry a concealed weapon and then follow his instructions to provide ID and he shoots and kill you…..
Why would he disclose the fact he had a concealed weapon if he intended to shoot the officer?
I agree Markey, it’s totally retarded that the cop shot the man, but it wasn’t about race. That’s another thing that escalates things, every time a cop shoots an innocent black man people say it was, because of race and blame whites, even in situations like this, when the cop was Hispanic.
Not only that but the low value that is put on black lives…for some to feel that blacks cause there own problems. When in reality they are trapped in a society that has created obstacles and laws that make a way to a successful life in this country extremely difficult.
Markeyh — was struck while watching people talk in the aftermath of the Dallas shootings. Among those commenting where a president, an attorney general and the Dallas police chief…..all of who were African-Americans. Surely at least there is some avenue for success no matter what obstacles there are.

I’ve made that statement many times. Look at his numbers not knowing who he is and many teams in the league would take that in a heartbeat.
Not just Gase but Christensen comes with a boatload of experience and success. Yes Peyton was a key component and he also got Luck but he knows his stuff. If we block I think we”ll score a lot of points. We have a lot of weapons. Need to stay relatively healthy.
What I like most in those stats is the TD to INT ratio, but then guess that gets back to knowing him. The low INTs are probably due in part to him taking too many sacks (not all of those are on the OL).
I’d rather take a sack than turn it over. The field position difference is huge when you punt from your own 18 and can get the ball to at least midfield rather than the opponent having the ball on your 27 which is almost an automatic 3 points. These are the types of decisions that don’t always show up on the stat sheet in an accurate way.
Tannehill’s biggest obstacle is making more game winning plays, not just trying to avoid mistakes. He doesn’t make a lot of mistakes, he lacks more big plays. People breakdown his game and say he could have, should have done this or that, he missed this and that. All QBs do that. The difference is the special big plays. That’s what separates the greats from the average/competent.

He was naked, unarmed, and never even approached the black police officer that shot him in the chest with his first shot, despite the fact that he had mace, a baton, and the kid was and 18 year old 5’7 130 lb kid. If you think this is black white issue, tell me why, in the week following Ferguson, this story never made national media, while so many other black victim cases did. This is an agenda man and it does nothing but make us focus on the wrong issues.

Actual solutions take away from your power. Problem solved and you are no longer have a function or power base.

But I ask you how can a population of 10-13% be just about half the incarcerations in this Country? How is only one race is affected with continual high unemployment, poor living conditions, poor education, underfunded, underpaid, segregated, victims of nepotism, cronyism, and racism.
I still fight many of these issues every day in my life……and that is 54 years of bullshit that I have still lived by the law and learned to accept the reality that in my lifetime these issues will not be solved.
Don’t know I have never visited or lived in another Country so they don’t concern me I was born and raised here and deserve equal treatment in this Country! So going back to Africa where I am not from is not the answer. This Country is greater for and to some than others and that is unacceptable!
Having said all the things I have said I also realize that the Black Community has failed themselves and have not been able to find their own way. The conditions, the crime, the drugs, the violence are in many cases self inflicted. But a lot of the same issues are truly more of a reflection of our society as a whole rather than the deplorable conditions our black communities face. They did not cause the conditions on their own and should not be expected to fix them on their own. Especially with their hands being tied behind their backs.
Markey — even if I might feel it personally like you, think we all understand the problem. At the same time, some of the people who I have most respected in the world are professional African Americans. Guess if there is a sign of what keeps the problem going is that all of them choose to move out of the inner city places that they came from. That was their choice and can’t blame them. But goes back to me thinking a big part of this is people growing up in poverty. Plenty of trailer trash white bigots out there coming from analogous economic circumstances.
It will always be about economics, can’t blame folks who move away from the downtrodden communities that exist as they often become the victim of the unsavory elements that troll our inner cities and also prey on the same folks who fight hard to survive within the law.

I hear you, but believe me, being a teacher I have seen that the “broken education system” is not only in the black community, it is in almost all low socioeconomic communities, regardless of color. It actually has very little to do with money; believe me, I work in this type of community now and have worked in them in the past as well. Mark Zuckerberg donated $100 million to the Newark School system with a very minimal increase in success. They can manipulate data very easily to make it look like they had more success than they actually did.The problems in the education system in America is a discussion for another time though.
I hear you Brian…yes that too is more about economics than ethnicity but of that 13% population that are African American they are twice as much to live in poverty than the rest of the country.
markeyh, just to let you know I’m mostly Irish and did not grow up with much privilege other than being white I guess. But I grew up with a single mom in a one bedroom apartment into my 20s. My step-dad came into my life when I was 10 and he was a good influence but he and my mom did not really settle down until when I was like 33 or whatever. The reason I say this is because my side of the family and my step-dad’s also dealt with discrimination – those lowly Irish. That came from the WASP English/Dutch/Germans who ran the country. There was a time where there were signs ‘Irish/Italian/Jewish need not apply’.
Not saying that is on par with slavery and what black people went through because it’s not the same level of hate and disrespect. But it just goes to show you that class warfare has always been a human trait and yes America was built on it even with legal documents that have the best of intentions. That’s not how all people behave.
Even still those laws are in place to protect you and I from a human rights standpoint. That said, this is why I say we as citizens have to do a better job assimilating because that’s the only way to truly get to where most of us want this country to be.

The notion of people “pulling themselves up by their bootstraps” is one that is going by the wayside, in large part due to public assistance. Now, I’m all for those who truly need help getting it, but the vast majority of people on public assistance are milking it for every dollar they can. People are not going to take education and employment seriously when they can do just fine getting money from the government for doing nothing other than sitting home and picking up a check from their mailbox every month. I see this first hand at work, and this sense of entitlement disgusts me. This does nothing to help society move in a better direction, it in fact prevents it from doing so.

Why work…..???? That’s exactly the point he was making. Are you supposed to start out making a CEO’s salary? Everyone starts out somewhere. There are choices to be made. If you don’t want a minimum wage job then get educated and get a job that pays to provide the life you want. Financial aid is available to go to college in addition to scholarships. You have to WANT to work for it. My parents weren’t wealthy by any means. I’m the first to graduate from college in my family and I had tuition waivers due to my grades and student loans to do it. I never expected anyone to just hand me anything and I never had the thought, gee, it’s hard to do this, I’ll just have some babies and let someone else pay and live on public assistance. I would never have had children if I wasn’t financially able to care for them. I always thought it was a messed up scenario that the more kids you had, the bigger payment you got. It was encouraging young girls to have more babies they couldn’t afford to take care of. Why not? I always said they should have paid young girls to NOT have babies and stay in school. This has been going on for years and you have several generations that this is how they live, public assistance is all they know. This isn’t a racial thing because there are folks from all races that do it.
I’m tired of being put in a category of uncaring or racist because I’m tired of paying the way of lazy ass baby machines. I see them at the grocery store check out line, they’ve got their benefit card in one hand and their iphone in the other. Tattoos and piercings all over and a few kids running around they aren’t even watching. Who pays for all that? Public assistance was meant to be a temporary thing, to help people out until they were able to get on their feet. It’s become a career. Just like you said…Why work?
Sports is really a good vehicle to bring people of all races together. I spent 13+ hours the past 2 days at the NBA Summer League Games. The section across the Isle from my seat said NBA Personnel Only. There was quite a mix of white and black, when they saw acquaintances, it was always a handshake and a hug, like one big happy family.
Could not agree more. Didn’t like seeing what happened in my college. You had absolutely no choice freshman year. Everybody had no choice who to live with coming in….all where just slotted into one of the freshman dorms. Everyone got along fine other than the normal stuff.
The next year you could pick both who your were going to live and which dorm complex. And people segregated, with each dorm being known as where this or that group (including jocks, geeks and such) went. All of a sudden you didn’t know people who weren’t so much like you any more. And I can’t throw stones…..not like my buddies and I tried to move into the “black” dorm.

My statement “Why Work” was pertaining to the minimum wage and the fact that it is so low some feel why work when you still can’t pay your bills, to them the benefits that come from the government outweighs taking a minimum wage job. It was more about my saying the minimum wage is a joke.
What should be done is the minimum wage that is currently $8.05 per hour in my State. Should be applied to adolescents but after a certain age (21) you must pay them a government mandated minimum wage rate that is where Bernie Sanders feels it should be $15.00 per hour.
Can any of you legitimately pay your bills with making just 8 dollars an hour? Have you noticed the cost of food today?
They can make it, if they want to. I worked with a guy in Tahoe years ago that was a busser in room service on swing, worked at the liquor store during the day, and had a 3rd job at another casino. He had no skills, so he got by on labor. All states have a department of training education and rehab, that provides training to a lot of people for free. The state will also provide education to the lower class for free. When there’s a will…

They’re getting by on similar to $8 an hour now, but the point was that’s your starting salary, move your way up in time. BACK FROM a successful convention in Orlando. The “official” highs the 4 days we were their were either 97 or 98. Minimum wage earners are generally people with little to no education. As I said in my post, if you don’t like the lifestyle at that level, get an education and get a higher paying job. But no, it’s much easier to blame others for the choice you make and expect to be paid more than your education and skills command in the job market.
And what of the cost of living for everyone to support the $15/hr minimum wage jobs? Are you ready to pay $10 for a burger when you drive thru your local fast food establishment? The cost of everything goes up, including wages on up the ladder…it’s a cycle and raising the minimum wage isn’t the answer. Getting off your ass and working so you have the education and skills to make more than the minimum wage is the answer. I’ve never said that you can support a family on minimum wage. If you want a family, be prepared to support them. Don’t expect others to support you and your child and then multiple children just because you didn’t get an education. Public education is free. There are scholarships, grants and student loans. I get paid based on my education and job skills and I can’t recall anyone asking me how many children I had to support during any salary discussions in my career.
NEITHER DO I, HERD. IN high school, I started as a cashier at Winn-Dixie @ 55c an hour. But I was already a seasoned employee, having begun working Saturdays at a coin shop when I was 13. By the time I got to Florida Atlantic, I was working at the Publix store, a few miles from the campus, at near $1.75 or so per hour, 30 hours a week between classes. No parties, no fraternities, no proms, no nonsense. ALL of those were MY CHOICES!! My mom had 7 knee surgeries by the time I was 18, so my folks could not help me financially, through no fault of their’s, or MINE! I saved, I borrowed (on the National Student Defense Loan program), i earned a couple of scholarships, and I worked my ass off. At age 33 I made my last payment on my loans, with NO HELP from my parents. By this time. mom and dad were dealing with his lung cancer.

I didn’t get where I am by being a pretty face. Nor by being the kid of rich parents. Nor by being the smartest guy in the class. I got where I am by WORKING MY ASS OFF!! nOW, A GREAT GRANDFATHER TIMES 6, I’M STILL WORKING MY ASS OFF LONG AFTER MANY MY AGE HAVE RETIRED! In a few more years, all of my wife’s surgeries will be paid off. And I’ll look in the mirror and say “I can’t wait to get BACK TO WORK!”
The backbone of America, you and so many like you. And it’s sad you have to work so hard to pay off your wife’s surgeries. If you, along with the rest of us hadn’t been supporting countless others, you’d have brought home more of the income you worked so hard for. And from what I know of you, like many of us, you get a sense of self worth, pride for a job well done from the work you do. It’s more than just the money you make. People who expect it all handed to them will never ‘get’ that no matter how much is given to them.

The cost of everything goes up, including wages on up the ladder…it’s a cycle and raising the minimum wage isn’t the answer. Getting off your ass and working so you have the education and skills to make more than the minimum wage is the answer. I’ve never said that you can support a family on minimum wage. If you want a family, be prepared to support them. Don’t expect others to support you and your child and then multiple children just because you didn’t get an education. Public education is free. There are scholarships, grants and student loans. I get paid based on my education and job skills and I can’t recall anyone asking me how many children I had to support during any salary discussions in my career.

I think markeyh is just very sensitive at this time and he’s mixing issues. Nobody here is disagreeing with him on most of what he’s said. The minimum wage debate is it’s own debate and not a racial issue.

Let me apologize to any of you if my words earlier offended any because that was not my intent. That is why I carefully chose how I worded what was said and wrote (SOME OF YOU) if you feel it does not apply to you then it doesn’t. But I did not “throw out a lot of accusations towards people that aren’t fair” I made factual statements on what has been going on for far too long and still have no end in sight.
On the minimal wage I really did not go into it much so that was not an issue with me. Yes, the minimum wage should be raised it would get a lot of people working who otherwise see no value in working for 7-8 dollars an hour or less. Those same people will get off of welfare and realize the value of working far outweigh government assistance. Many business owners are greedy and can afford to pay better wages and if they all have to abide by it then no one gets an unfair advantage they all would still have to find a way to make their products affordable.
I am not sure what would be the greater cost savings raising the minimum wage vs. the cost reduction of people getting public assistance but if it could help these families break the cycle of dependence on public assistance it is a price I feel is well worth it.
People are always complaining about solutions and how they will ruin businesses or destroy our economy without even giving it a chance. It seems like this partisan debate will be endless as both sides seem to be strongly entrenched in their ideological corners while this Country is on the brink of MAJOR civil unrest.
From both parties being unyielding towards the other not willing to work together because their side did not come up with an idea or solution while at the same time trying to sabotage the other side’s proposals or get into office so they can undo what was enacted by the previous regime. There can be very little progress as long as these divisions exist.
One thing I can assure you is I too have worked hard all my life, I was born and raised in the ghetto and I did not have supportive parenting my Mother was the hard worker and my Father was a street runner. I did not graduate from high school but took a GED at 18 years of age I missed a lot of my freshman year due to illnesses and was behind in credits and I did not want to spend another year in high school. I could not afford college and did not even get direction to go to college. Ii took a 4 year apprenticeship in Carpentry through the State of Wisconsin and the Carpenter’s Union local #264. In fact I got paid to go to school as I got paid my wages while I took classes. I now have a skill that has provided and will provide for me the rest of my healthy life.
I have paid my dues in all my years of being Married my family was provided for very well as I chose not to let racism stop me from taking care of my family so I went into business to properly provide for my household and set an example for my kids all who are an asset to our community then a liability. Not one day did my family have to use public assistance. So I am not personally offended by some of your comments just more frustrated to see that the opinions that we are so diametrically opposed just underscores the issues we face as a Nation.
When “WE replace “THEM” and we take the “I” out of “tIeam” then and only then can we truly make progress.

I think Tannenbaum has done a very good job of hiring the management and Ryan Tannehill has already proved to be a good QB we just need him to become great and this year Tannenbaum seem to have put him in very good position to do just that.

Surely black people face more excessive force, bias and fear than other races, as a percent. Black people shouldn’t try to change the police they should change themselves. Get an education, respect law enforcement, don’t resist authority. When the police stop fearing blacks the excessive force will decrease. I would bet the percent of blacks that do what the police tell them to do and still get subject to excessive force is very small.
I don’t condone what these cops are doing, there are plenty that are assholes and think they’re above the law, all people have to be held accountable for their own actions. We know cops use excessive force, so don’t test them. We know lions kill people, if they’re trapped in a cage with one, so why would anyone go in a lion cage or habitat?
Police officers haven’t gotten used to social media. This excessive force isn’t new, social media is exposing what they’ve been doing for years.
Numbers do not lie! 123 blacks compared to just 238 whites when to consider the percentage factor of the races it is not even close. In fact there are more Hispanics in this country than blacks and they even have a lower number than blacks.

The problem is the Lions are not caged they are loose in our society and they are preying on Black folk. How is it testing them when they are the aggressor? How would you feel if your 12 year old son playing with a BB gun in a park is executed two seconds after a police officer pulled up to the scene? Too many of these cases are now being exposed but have been a fabric of the black community forever. When will it stop? Racism is real and close behind it is the apathy of the majority of our society. markeyh — I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that African-Americans get profiled. Remember reading an interview with Marcus Allen back when he was in the NFL. He had been pulled over driving so often that eventually he got a letter from the Chief of Police that he kept in his car. It basically said “This is Marcus Allen, star running back for the Raiders….and the Mercedes is his.”
Being a white as Wonderbread guy, can’t even fathom what that is like. Without defending any kind of racism, will note how things have improved over our lifetimes and our parents lifetimes. Think about what it was like in the 50’s and 60’s…..heck even in the 80’s.
Have been struck with how such issues have come more and more to the fore recently. I hear some say things have gotten worse, but just don’t believe that. You might not like it, but I think things have improved enough that African-Americans are aggressively addressing the parts of it that are still there.
I agree things are improved but there is still a long way to go even now. We can not settle because things have improved we need to press on until the day comes when I can walk the streets as safe as you can, Or I can earn the money many of you can without being limited because the color of my skin. Education alone will not solve these issues but legislation and just the decency of the majority race to give a damn!

This is true in some cases, but the fact of the matter is you can’t lump eveyone into one category. Example:
I have an acquantaince who is African-American, as is his wife. They are both very well educated (they are doctors) who are upstanding citizens and have never been in trouble with the law. They are about as mild mannered as they come. They recently bought a house in an upscale neighborhood, and their concerns, along with what dining room table to choose, was how they would be looked upon by the neighbors, and how their children would be treated. They said the second their children were discriminated against, they would pick up and move. She laments the fact that she has to teach her kids to be meeek and mild mannered, and to not look people in the eye when talking to them, instead of being assertive , traits that we teach our kids in order for them to be successful. This is just one example of what minorities go through, something you or I could never imagine experiencing.
Obviously there are cases like this, lots of them. The problem is the % of blacks that are uneducated or only educated enough to get a low paying job is far too high, and that needs to change.
There are a lot of “Educated Blacks” that still have to deal with the same issues in our society that the uneducated do. It’s about being Black……when will apathetic victim blamer’s get a clue?
I’m not debating it happens to educated blacks. When the group as a whole changes, things will change. There’s too many knuckleheads that are black by %, that are ruining it for the rest.
There are many knuckle headed people of all races who do not suffer the injustice Blacks do. STOP BLAMING THE VICTIM!
These issues are being exploited by both the political and media factions as it becomes a focal point EVERY election year. Race baiting by both parties and then the hypocrisy of both parties who practice division while getting up on their perch and call for unity.
We are a failed society and God is the only one who can help us all.
You have to help yourself, do what you can, so you don’t get put in those situations. Police brutality happens to whites too, it just happens to blacks a lot more on a %.

Markeyh — no haven’t lived with your skin color. But have worked for, with, and had employees who were African Americans over the years. And not once have heard a comment about their race in any kind of negative way. They were all judged for who they were and what they were doing.
Most of these were real professional type situations, but not all were. Guess it works given recent events — in college years one of my bosses was head of a big company mail room who supervised not just me but a whole bunch of retired ex-cops who were paid much more than they should have been as a “break-glass-in-case-of emergency” force. We all respected and liked him, and for good reason.
And yeah their are white trash bigots out there, but doesn’t every large group of millions have idiots in it? But most of use white folks aren’t looking down on anyone. Maybe the question for us is how much obligation we have to do anything other than treat each person for who they are without regard to race.
Take college applications. I’m not a fan of affirmative action. Don’t think Michael Jordan’s kid should be admitted because he his black. I do however look at socioeconomic factors. So yes I think a kid from a bad neighborhood should get a leg up just cause of what he has had to deal with……whatever his race.
We really need to do a better job as citizens when dealing with each other. Most people of all races and color just want to live a good life and raise their kids to do the same. We all want the same things. But when people feel despair, they resort to all kinds of behavior to survive in any way they can. We should really try to help young people before they lose all self control. Some adults may be too far gone, but if we can help them when they’re young we can change lives for the better.
When you have a Country that spends more money to put one or both of the parents of these young people in prison than maybe fix the broken education system in the black communities, or help create meaningful employment and living wages it proves that they not only want these problems but need them.

I fully understand your points I just do not think and or agree that that is the solution. The higher percent of the population needs to take action the question is what will it take for them to want to do something about it? You’re always going to have police shootings, because people do stupid things on both sides, and because officer safety is at stake. I watched a video recently I think it was the one in Minn. The guy had a permit to carry a concealed weapon, told the cop he had one, but went into his pocket to get his ID and the cop thought he was going for his gun, and fatally shot him. Because it was a white cop and a black man of course the racial thing comes out, but watching that video the cop feared for his own safety, the shooting had nothing to do with the color of skin.
So you tell a cop you have a license to carry a concealed weapon and then follow his instructions to provide ID and he shoots and kill you…..
Why would he disclose the fact he had a concealed weapon if he intended to shoot the officer?

I’ve made that statement many times. Look at his numbers not knowing who he is and many teams in the league would take that in a heartbeat.
Not just Gase but Christensen comes with a boatload of experience and success. Yes Peyton was a key component and he also got Luck but he knows his stuff. If we block I think we”ll score a lot of points. We have a lot of weapons. Need to stay relatively healthy.
What I like most in those stats is the TD to INT ratio, but then guess that gets back to knowing him. The low INTs are probably due in part to him taking too many sacks (not all of those are on the OL).
I’d rather take a sack than turn it over. The field position difference is huge when you punt from your own 18 and can get the ball to at least midfield rather than the opponent having the ball on your 27 which is almost an automatic 3 points. These are the types of decisions that don’t always show up on the stat sheet in an accurate way.
Tannehill’s biggest obstacle is making more game winning plays, not just trying to avoid mistakes. He doesn’t make a lot of mistakes, he lacks more big plays. People breakdown his game and say he could have, should have done this or that, he missed this and that. All QBs do that. The difference is the special big plays. That’s what separates the greats from the average/competent.

I hear you, but believe me, being a teacher I have seen that the “broken education system” is not only in the black community, it is in almost all low socioeconomic communities, regardless of color. It actually has very little to do with money; believe me, I work in this type of community now and have worked in them in the past as well. Mark Zuckerberg donated $100 million to the Newark School system with a very minimal increase in success. They can manipulate data very easily to make it look like they had more success than they actually did.The problems in the education system in America is a discussion for another time though.

markeyh, just to let you know I’m mostly Irish and did not grow up with much privilege other than being white I guess. But I grew up with a single mom in a one bedroom apartment into my 20s. My step-dad came into my life when I was 10 and he was a good influence but he and my mom did not really settle down until when I was like 33 or whatever. The reason I say this is because my side of the family and my step-dad’s also dealt with discrimination – those lowly Irish. That came from the WASP English/Dutch/Germans who ran the country. There was a time where there were signs ‘Irish/Italian/Jewish need not apply’.
Not saying that is on par with slavery and what black people went through because it’s not the same level of hate and disrespect. But it just goes to show you that class warfare has always been a human trait and yes America was built on it even with legal documents that have the best of intentions. That’s not how all people behave.
Even still those laws are in place to protect you and I from a human rights standpoint. That said, this is why I say we as citizens have to do a better job assimilating because that’s the only way to truly get to where most of us want this country to be.

Now, I’m all for those who truly need help getting it, but the vast majority of people on public assistance are milking it for every dollar they can. People are not going to take education and employment seriously when they can do just fine getting money from the government for doing nothing other than sitting home and picking up a check from their mailbox every month. I see this first hand at work, and this sense of entitlement disgusts me. This does nothing to help society move in a better direction, it in fact prevents it from doing so.

Why work…..???? That’s exactly the point he was making. Are you supposed to start out making a CEO’s salary? Everyone starts out somewhere. There are choices to be made. If you don’t want a minimum wage job then get educated and get a job that pays to provide the life you want. Financial aid is available to go to college in addition to scholarships. You have to WANT to work for it. My parents weren’t wealthy by any means. I’m the first to graduate from college in my family and I had tuition waivers due to my grades and student loans to do it. I never expected anyone to just hand me anything and I never had the thought, gee, it’s hard to do this, I’ll just have some babies and let someone else pay and live on public assistance. I would never have had children if I wasn’t financially able to care for them. I always thought it was a messed up scenario that the more kids you had, the bigger payment you got. It was encouraging young girls to have more babies they couldn’t afford to take care of. Why not? I always said they should have paid young girls to NOT have babies and stay in school. This has been going on for years and you have several generations that this is how they live, public assistance is all they know. This isn’t a racial thing because there are folks from all races that do it.
I’m tired of being put in a category of uncaring or racist because I’m tired of paying the way of lazy ass baby machines. I see them at the grocery store check out line, they’ve got their benefit card in one hand and their iphone in the other. Tattoos and piercings all over and a few kids running around they aren’t even watching. Who pays for all that? Public assistance was meant to be a temporary thing, to help people out until they were able to get on their feet. It’s become a career. Just like you said…Why work?

Sports is really a good vehicle to bring people of all races together. I spent 13+ hours the past 2 days at the NBA Summer League Games. The section across the Isle from my seat said NBA Personnel Only. There was quite a mix of white and black, when they saw acquaintances, it was always a handshake and a hug, like one big happy family.
Music too.
And the police and military. You get folks all together working on something and all of a sudden there is no “them” and “us”……just people.
Work is kind of the same way. Growing up in Miami, with desegregation, school was another place. It was rough at times, but…

Could not agree more. Didn’t like seeing what happened in my college. You had absolutely no choice freshman year. Everybody had no choice who to live with coming in….all where just slotted into one of the freshman dorms. Everyone got along fine other than the normal stuff.
The next year you could pick both who your were going to live and which dorm complex. And people segregated, with each dorm being known as where this or that group (including jocks, geeks and such) went. All of a sudden you didn’t know people who weren’t so much like you any more. And I can’t throw stones…..not like my buddies and I tried to move into the “black” dorm.

Yes there are people who have abused the system but States are working to change that. I do not see many young women now days being a baby factory in fact many of them are focused on their careers.
My statement “Why Work” was pertaining to the minimum wage and the fact that it is so low some feel why work when you still can’t pay your bills, to them the benefits that come from the government outweighs taking a minimum wage job. It was more about my saying the minimum wage is a joke.
What should be done is the minimum wage that is currently $8.05 per hour in my State. Should be applied to adolescents but after a certain age (21) you must pay them a government mandated minimum wage rate that is where Bernie Sanders feels it should be $15.00 per hour.
Can any of you legitimately pay your bills with making just 8 dollars an hour? Have you noticed the cost of food today?
A big problem is adults with children only able to make those wages. Schools and education is provided in this country.

Minimum wage earners are generally people with little to no education. As I said in my post, if you don’t like the lifestyle at that level, get an education and get a higher paying job. But no, it’s much easier to blame others for the choice you make and expect to be paid more than your education and skills command in the job market.
And what of the cost of living for everyone to support the $15/hr minimum wage jobs? Are you ready to pay $10 for a burger when you drive thru your local fast food establishment? The cost of everything goes up, including wages on up the ladder…it’s a cycle and raising the minimum wage isn’t the answer. Getting off your ass and working so you have the education and skills to make more than the minimum wage is the answer. I’ve never said that you can support a family on minimum wage. If you want a family, be prepared to support them. Don’t expect others to support you and your child and then multiple children just because you didn’t get an education. Public education is free. There are scholarships, grants and student loans. I get paid based on my education and job skills and I can’t recall anyone asking me how many children I had to support during any salary discussions in my career.
NEITHER DO I, HERD. IN high school, I started as a cashier at Winn-Dixie @ 55c an hour. But I was already a seasoned employee, having begun working Saturdays at a coin shop when I was 13. By the time I got to Florida Atlantic, I was working at the Publix store, a few miles from the campus, at near $1.75 or so per hour, 30 hours a week between classes. No parties, no fraternities, no proms, no nonsense. ALL of those were MY CHOICES!! My mom had 7 knee surgeries by the time I was 18, so my folks could not help me financially, through no fault of their’s, or MINE! I saved, I borrowed (on the National Student Defense Loan program), i earned a couple of scholarships, and I worked my ass off. At age 33 I made my last payment on my loans, with NO HELP from my parents. By this time. mom and dad were dealing with his lung cancer.

The cost of everything goes up, including wages on up the ladder…it’s a cycle and raising the minimum wage isn’t the answer. Getting off your ass and working so you have the education and skills to make more than the minimum wage is the answer. I’ve never said that you can support a family on minimum wage. If you want a family, be prepared to support them. Don’t expect others to support you and your child and then multiple children just because you didn’t get an education. Public education is free. There are scholarships, grants and student loans. I get paid based on my education and job skills and I can’t recall anyone asking me how many children I had to support during any salary discussions in my career.

Also career minimum wage earners will never be satisfied, no matter what the $ figure is. Seeing the protest March for these people in NYC last year was pathetic, what grounds do they have to stand on to think they should get paid more, because they can’t live off of the min, and the FN dems seeing an opportunity to use it campaigning kills me.
The minimum wage debate is also not a race issue, it’s a political one that makes no economic sense.

Let me apologize to any of you if my words earlier offended any because that was not my intent. That is why I carefully chose how I worded what was said and wrote (SOME OF YOU) if you feel it does not apply to you then it doesn’t. But I did not “throw out a lot of accusations towards people that aren’t fair” I made factual statements on what has been going on for far too long and still have no end in sight.
On the minimal wage I really did not go into it much so that was not an issue with me. Yes, the minimum wage should be raised it would get a lot of people working who otherwise see no value in working for 7-8 dollars an hour or less. Those same people will get off of welfare and realize the value of working far outweigh government assistance. Many business owners are greedy and can afford to pay better wages and if they all have to abide by it then no one gets an unfair advantage they all would still have to find a way to make their products affordable.
I am not sure what would be the greater cost savings raising the minimum wage vs. the cost reduction of people getting public assistance but if it could help these families break the cycle of dependence on public assistance it is a price I feel is well worth it.
People are always complaining about solutions and how they will ruin businesses or destroy our economy without even giving it a chance. It seems like this partisan debate will be endless as both sides seem to be strongly entrenched in their ideological corners while this Country is on the brink of MAJOR civil unrest.
From both parties being unyielding towards the other not willing to work together because their side did not come up with an idea or solution while at the same time trying to sabotage the other side’s proposals or get into office so they can undo what was enacted by the previous regime. There can be very little progress as long as these divisions exist.
One thing I can assure you is I too have worked hard all my life, I was born and raised in the ghetto and I did not have supportive parenting my Mother was the hard worker and my Father was a street runner. I did not graduate from high school but took a GED at 18 years of age I missed a lot of my freshman year due to illnesses and was behind in credits and I did not want to spend another year in high school. I could not afford college and did not even get direction to go to college. Ii took a 4 year apprenticeship in Carpentry through the State of Wisconsin and the Carpenter’s Union local #264. In fact I got paid to go to school as I got paid my wages while I took classes. I now have a skill that has provided and will provide for me the rest of my healthy life.
I have paid my dues in all my years of being Married my family was provided for very well as I chose not to let racism stop me from taking care of my family so I went into business to properly provide for my household and set an example for my kids all who are an asset to our community then a liability. Not one day did my family have to use public assistance. So I am not personally offended by some of your comments just more frustrated to see that the opinions that we are so diametrically opposed just underscores the issues we face as a Nation.
When “WE replace “THEM” and we take the “I” out of “tIeam” then and only then can we truly make progress.
I apologize for getting a little testy and resend my statement about not posting here I will just go back to limiting my comments on Football.
It’s all good markeyh, most people and I mean black, white and other races all want the same things. But it’s okay to disagree on how to get there. I think people in this country go about a lot of things the wrong way and never come up with viable solutions. They just draw lines in the sand and throw mud at each other and it sucks!

I think Tannenbaum has done a very good job of hiring the management and Ryan Tannehill has already proved to be a good QB we just need him to become great and this year Tannenbaum seem to have put him in very good position to do just that.
I find it funny how some will not get over the fact that Mike Tannenbaum failed eventually in New York but that he also contributed to them making the AFC championship two years in a row. I would take that in a heart beat.
Every coach and GM have had failures but that don’t mean they cant learn from them and make wiser decisions when give another chance, So far so good for Tannenbaum.
As for Brent Gimes wife I feel she has some disorder and he husband understands and supports her. I am sure some of these teams are aware of here codition.
