Dolphins @ Cowboys – Preseason Game 2

New Age, this is not about Goodell, it’s the owners and the deal they all made with the Union and the new CBA. It’s watered down the game. The owners run the game, not Goodell. He’s just their voice and scapegoat. How do you prepare a new team when you can barely practice stuff?
This isn’t sour grapes just for our team, it’s just reality. The play this PS with multiple teams has been poor. I’m becoming less entertained. The Phins just happen to be my team. LOL
We know things are bad when even TIM runs out of Kool-Aid.
This is getting just pure ugly
I was wrong it just got uglier
Re you kidding me?
These announcers
Was he is?
No fucking way was he in
Tm,
I’m not a great CBA mind, but wasn’t it the players who requested and got an easier workload in practices? I didn’t think it was the NFL that wanted easier and less practicing.
Yep
That is the CBA. LOL
The deal was bad. Geez guys, it’s about the quality of the game, not taking sides. Telling!
I guess we always need an argument. Oy!
Oh my god Prescott scored again where is the lube?
I don’t think that was a TD
Zach Dysert is in time for some magic
Tim,
http://sportsnaut.com/2016/07/bill-polian-next-nfl-cba-will-focus-commissioner-power/
The CBA is a compromise from both sides. If the players want something, they have to give something. I could see some teams wanting the ability to field a better product.
Well I can’t watch any more of this suckfest. Tannehill looked good as did Stills. Not much else to say about the rest of the team
Tim,
I think it’s gonna be difficult for the NFL to increase contact with all the stuff going on with CTE and the mega focus on injury and the health of players. I totally agree that it’s making players perform worse. It’s like hitting and tackling are being phased out of the game. I do not like how the game’s played now, but it is what it is. I don’t think they’re gonna go backwards, unfortunately.
Does Dion Jordan still play for this team?
I haven’t seen him
Tm,
I wasn’t arguing. Just saying it was the players’ choice to do less hitting and have less practice time. They obviously want to work less. Lol
I agree and the product sucks. I’m hosting our FFL draft with my friends 27 years next Friday and I haven’t done one thing to pick my team. I used to be way ahead of the game at this time. Now I print a rankings sheet and roll with that. I feel like I’m following WWE and I’m not that into it but my friends getting together is worth it. 🙂
That was the worst explanation of how the Dolphins licked Tunsil at 13 I ever heard
Stop booth drinking
Double Deuce has been the best running back 2 weeks running
the Pead is flowing
I get it guys. Not sure why you thought I felt the CBA was one-sided. I said it’s ruining the game. Never took sides like others do. I said it doesn’t work.
We need some music so people are less tense. 🙂
The face of the Dolfan during the preseason
For those who may be wondering, YOUNG STANGER HAS NOT cancelled the Fest. In fact, if I were him, I’d call Ross tomorrow and see if we can get UPGRADED to those $1,000 ticket per game LAZY BOY SEATS RIGHT BEHIND THE DOLPHINS BENCH. –They were empty last season and they’ll sure as hell be empty THIS SEASON, TOO! –Hell, Ross may throw in a lap dance or two as well!!
Look at the bright side Dolfans

POST GAME LOCKER ROOM.
Armando to coach Gase: “Coach, what did you think of your team’s execution?”
Gase replies: “I thought it should be done as soon as possible!!”
You can still get Tampa Bay season tickets really cheep. Shit I’ll buy them for you.
Then again folks I’m really melancholy these days. Too many loved ones passed in the last 2 years and you’re left standing around not knowing what to do or think.
Once again, not looking for sympathy. It’s my deal and I have to deal with it. It’s hard to say goodbye to people you love. That’s where I’m at. Trying to deal with voids in my heart. It’s not easy.
Sorry to hear that. Stay strong
Sorry to hear Tim. It’s hard to deal with ever and it’s still really fresh for you. Hope it starts getting easier.
Tim — you know what I’ve been through over those same two years……if it didn’t hit you you wouldn’t be human.
I’m not sure this team can win 6 games like last years team. We have major issues right now on both offense and defense.
Our FO is still unwilling to fix glaring mistakes in the offseason. It’s really our biggest problem every year. They are too cheap to fix real problems and act like they are playing fantasy football. Last off-season, OG and LB was a problem. It lasted all year. This year, just about everyone thought CB and LB were going to be problems. Guess what? Couple weeks from season…and they are still problems. Let’s see if they competently fix before game 16.
.
Tim
I actually think the O-line will be fine. Bushrod will be good, he’s learning a new position, and so is Tunsil, but I do believe both will end up being good once they adjust. Tunsil actually looks pretty good right now. As far as the LB’s, in all fairness, there’s no game planning in pre season, just throw them out there, and see what happens. What’s happened so far is they all look overmatched, but I think once we start scheming, and have our regular front 4 on the D-line, their play will improve. Alonso does worry me some, but Misi if healthy, while unspectacular, can tackle and get the job done, and I think a healthy Jenkins will be much better than last year.
I had to step back and realize the pre season is really hard to gauge, and so even though I was displeased with the LB play, I’m going to be patient and see how they play when it counts. Also take into consideration that Landry dropped 2 TD’s, and Cameron dropped one, I don’t think Landry will be dropping TD passes when it counts. Cameron, yeah, probably will. lol
How about those Mets? 😈
They’re a joy to watch aren’t they? LOL
Cheer up Tim
Everyday with your feet/trotters on the ground and the sky above your head is an opportunity to make a great day
And football is almost here
Good times are ahead
It’s better to stink it up in preseason, which causes everyone to want to fix things in practice, than excel in preseason causing lazy practices, and overconfidence once the games are live. I don’t know this team sucks, but I’m pretty sure they’re going to working hard the next 3 weeks.
Everyone knew we needed LB and CB help. Instead the FO decided to play it cheap. I think Ross is becoming one of those owners that only cares about a small profit
Boulder — we are one of the teams that pays right up to the cap and carryovers when we don’t have to and he could not spend the money instead.
Was shocked we didn’t move D more, but seems that was a football move not a cost saving one.
Tanny and Stills had good nights. How Tanny does is three times more important than any other player on O and was nice to put Stills into the “he’s back” category.
Gonna have to find some run D though.
Mike E – I agree with your initial impression you had about Alonso last night. Whein I saw a brief glimpse of him in the first play I said to myelf “Who’s that? DId they pick up some new free saftey that I didn’t hear about?”. The jersey number didn’t help things – not a typical LB number. But yeah, he looked crazy small for a LB.
LOL @ Mike E with Melon Collie
I look to football as a release from other things in daily life and this game is just getting worse. Every game I watch is filled with penalties and poor fundamentals. It really comes down to who makes more big plays. It’s no longer a grudge match. I’m getting less interested in it each year and that really sucks.
Alonso is 6-3 and like 235 that’s why he looks thin because he is a wiry built guy.
dolphins sucking every year is not helping either. If we were pats fans I bet we wouldn’t care as much.
I woke up very depressed this morning 😦
I think we’re gonna start slow but hopefully we come to life later this season to give us a little hope for 2017. My main concern is the D and our run offense.
That’s part of the problem, teams can’t really practice tackling or running the ball because of the CBA rules with limited practices in pads and it shows in the games.
We have new coaches who need to learn their players and they can’t really do it in practice so you get these crappy performances in the PS because that’s when they finally get to work on the physical stuff. Maybe I’m making too much of the PS but I see the penalties and poor fundamentals in the RS too. The last few years the game has been getting worse in my view. The refs basically decide field position with flags. What kind of game is that?
Generally I minimize the preseason results
But when I see such bad LB and CB play
And I look at the roster
And I suspected this would be a problem
I get worried
I think we have the personel to get the running game going
And score some points
And Put up good numbers
But I don’t get investing so much in the DL
And letting the other units be so bad
I endorse this message. Piggy for President
agreed.
As SB would say, NO EXCUSES!
Other NFL teams have coaching changes and succeed immediately. They just have to get it done, simple as that.
Tim, The Mets are so not fun to watch. Thankfully they’re on the West Coast and I’ve to go to sleep early for work, so I missed the latest garbage. Now it really is a team issue. It’s no longer no offense, now there’s a different reason every night, a breakdown somewhere, either our pitchers and catchers unable to prevent stolen bases, or our starting pitcher getting blown up, or the relievers blowing the game at the end, or errors, or lack of hitting, but they’re all destroying any chance this team had.
BTW – I think Alonso looks more like 6″2″ 200, if we’re being honest. I don’t think he’s at 235 right now, but it could be deceiving.
More so than anything about his size is that he looked slow or indecisive out there. He always seemed to be a step or 2 away from being able to make a play.
He didn’t look anything like he did his rookie year, but again, IMO, best to wait until we actually play the defense we’re going to play with an actual game plan, and all our starters, and then see how it looks.
That’s how we should look at it Mike, in the PS teams play pretty vanilla and they’re getting in their physical work that they don’t get enough of in practice. VJ may be looking for things that we’re not focused on so we just see what looks like poor execution and it may be, but it also may be work they need and it should get better in time. We all know the game goes to another level in the RS. Let’s hope that’s the case. 🙂
I saw the same thing with Alonso but he’s always looked like that. Think about Cam Wake at 6-3 265, he’s got 30 lbs. on Alonso and looks it.
Porcine Party is gaining steam towards a Presidential election
Free bacon for everyone!
I think you may have misinterpreted my platform
Bacon Kills is my slogan
When Piggy said “Free Bacon”, he meant to LEAVE THE PIGS ALONE!
I think the personel flaws in defense are obvious and not easily fixable
But good coaching can hide flaws
And I’m starting to beleove in gase
Every team has flaws
And Tim is right: Shitty tackling is a league trait now
So I d think despite that crappy back 7 (other than jones)
We can make a playoff push
Then work on building up he back 7 in the offseason
You have to take little steps to be a contender
It won’t happen overnight
Is beleoving when you jump some someone’s back and don’t let go? LOL
It’s porkeese for “Olay ” – our lbs favorite phrase
Twice
He looks undersized, but let’s see how he plays when it counts. The NFL seems to be going away from the lumbering LB’s we used to see, so maybe in a year or two or three, when they outlaw tackling altogether, and change it to two-hand touch, he’ll be perfect. 🙂
Then we’ll have guys like Grant playing LB. LOL
LOL
I think Tannehill is going to out up very good numbers when it is said and done
That sack was his worst play and I blame him
Other than that he was pretty good last night
Sometimes the argument against Tanny is
We know what he is by now
But that argument is also a positive one
He’s probably going to pass for over 4K yards again
His protection is going to be better
He needs to take less sacks
Being a little more decisive
To take he next step
But even if he doesn’t take the next step
He won’t be the reason we fall under .500 if we do
Between now and the burg inning of the season
My real focus is – can this running game get better
The drops won’t bother me until the reg season
And I suspect the receivers wil be more competitive then
But the running game does bother me
And unlike the personel on Defense I do think we have the parts to make the running game better
We should also move RT around more. He is real good throwing on the move and he can tire a defensive front out with his legs. It would be a crime not to utilize those skills.
That was a fantastic throw last night on the run to Stills. Right on target, and a very catchable ball, not a line drive.
Remember the throw to Gibson on 3rd and long for like 40+ yards a couple of years ago. He’s real good throwing on the move. He’s made a lot of good throws like that, we just don’t do it enough. But I can’t get on Gase about it because it’s only a small body of work so far and maybe he will call more of it.
Yes I do, pretty similar, except I think the one to Gibson the pursuit by the defense was a little hotter.
Totally agree again. Piggy for President!
Free THE Bacon!!!
Emphasis on be word “the”
I think you would get more votes if you ditched “the” from your slogan.
I think there is a Tanny supporter around here who has been suggesting getting Tannehill throwing on the run for some time now
Yeah me. LOL
I would sign him in an instant.
Why?
At RB I thought Foster looked slow. He lost a step. I don’t think he will be all that effective as a no. 1 back for us this season. I know it was one PS game but I came away very uninspired about him. He had no burst.
He was never real fast. He’s more instinctive and powerful. But he didn’t have many holes to work with. He got bottled up most of the time.
There was no room to run yesterday
I don’t think the RB was the problem
But I’m not confident about the group we have right now in spite of that
There was not much room to run but even when there might have been Foster looked slow and just seemed not to be able to hit the hole
Mike, yes on that throw to Gibson and that was RT running left and making the throw across his body which isn’t easy. Last night it was to his strong side. I’d move him around quite a bit with waggles, bootlegs and roll-outs. Of course you can’t do it all the time but instead of 2-3 times per game maybe 8-10.
Tim
The Bills got a lot of production out of Willims in a crowded backfield
He’s a good RB
And we steal him from a division foe
But he is suspended for first 4 games
So I would wait and see if he is still on the market and whether we need him a couple of games into the season
I was asking why he’s about to be cut because he is a good player. Not why would we pick him up.
Bc he is suspended for PEDs
So the Bills didn’t want to put up with it I guess
I don’t think it’s a production issue
Even with Williams missing the first 4 games I would still sign him. He is better than anyone on our roster right now
We don’t really know that yet but he is a good back.
Williams is being cut because he apparently showed up at camp 20 pounds over weight. Said he was eating in sympathy with his pregnant wife
He came to camp at over 260 pounds
But I don’t think he is 260 now
And he was always around 230
The real issue is the drug suspension IMO
Although I can buy it’s a combo of that and the weight issue
Was it for steroids or narcotics?
Cannabis laced doughnuts. LOL
Good news on Tunsil
He’s going to be very good. He’s talented and progressing. He’s a franchise draft pick.
Now we need Albert to come back to form
After last night showing I’m not sure foster makes this team. I think I would rather keep pead.
He got hit as soon as he reached the LOS. The OL is still not getting off the ball.
It’s funny people think that’s the excuse we use for Tannehill, the OL, but it’s also the issue for the RBs. You can’t get 4-6 yards being hit at the LOS. The idea of the running game is to open up holes, not have backs run into walls. LOL
Pead looks like a keeper he showed a burst both running and receiving
Impressive both games….
Pead was a 2nd rd pick for a reason. Not sure why he stalled with the Rams but he does have talent. Thomas Jones was also not as good as advertised as a 1st rd pick with ARZ but went on to have a very good career afterwards. Maybe the light goes off at different times for guys.
Bad Game for the Defense last night! SMH
Markey H:
You coming to the fest? If so I need contact info from you as I putting together a contact list so we can get in touch with each other when we are all in Florida
Yes I will be there how do I get you my information/
You will receive a pigeon shortly. LOL
A raven. We have upgraded to GOT standards
Markey:
Email me at kenmastroni@sbcglobal.net
The Raven has arrived message sent….check your email Ken.
Looking like it’s gonna be a long year for the Bills
Well at least we have that to look forward to
So mad at Ken for making me deliver this to everyone
On the way Markeyh!
Did you just call me a raven!?!?!
Too late the Raven took it already…
But I am thinking about firing up the grill so stop on by Piggy 🙂
LOL
The Pead was flowing
I wish I could make the fest. At some point we (the family) have to get down to Jupiter and clear out personal belongings and set the place up as a rental. My in-laws will never be back there with my F-I-L passing away and my M-I-L ill as well – we’re all taking caring of her up north. But in the future it will be a good pit stop to do a fest. It’s only 1.5-2 hours to the stadium from there and only one night at a hotel. So hopefully I will attend at least one fest in the next couple of years.
I hope you all have a great time.
Markey:
Email has been received thank you
Ok
Tim:
I know it’s been a rough year for you. That is why I highly encourage you to make the fest. Win lose or draw I guarantee you will have a good time. It will take your mind off things
Can’t do it, my M-I-L will be moving in with us during the winter and we need to put in a new bathroom upstairs as well as my wife and I are moving upstairs. She has bathroom issues and needs the downstairs one at any time. So we need another bath/shower upstairs in case she takes over the downstairs bathroom for a period of time. LOL
We only have 1.5 baths at the moment, the .5 being in the basement. We can’t have her using stairs. She has to be on the ground floor.
I hear you
It sucks Ken because it’s sad. But like I said, there may be opportunities in the future if there are no rental complications. It’s a great pit stop. My B-I-L and I stayed there for 2 days before heading to Hollywood for the Giants game last year. It worked out really well. It’s like driving to the shore for us. LOL
You know what’s happening folks. My F-I-L was the patriarch of the family. He called everyone sometimes on a daily basis to see how everyone was doing and to give advice. We’re no longer getting those calls. He’s been gone almost a month and it’s settling in for us. The void is growing and it’s very sad.
I know in time this will subside, but right now it’s real. 😦
Hang in there.
Thanks, man.
Maybe you could honor his memory by picking up the torch so to speak and start making the calls to the others in your family?
That’s not me. It’s different. I’m not him. I will always be there for anyone in my family who needs help. I promised him that when I said goodbye to him. I told him I would always be there for his daughter and granddaughter no matter what, my wife and daughter. That’s my focus. My B-I-L is more that guy but not really. My F-I-L was a special person. He really can’t be replaced. We’ll all have to work together moving forward. 🙂
I really wish we had kept clay. That was a terrible drop by Cameron. That’s the kind of play that loses you games. Catch the damn ball.
It was a horrible drop
But Cameron has been a good receiver in the past
If I see it in the reg season
I will probably have had enough
But I think the guys are kinda going half ass in preseason
Landry dropped passes too
And he is pretty sure handed
I hope they develop Huerte
He might be the same kind of receiver Clay was for us
Cameron is on a bit of a short leash
We might have other options on the roster – in time
positive vibes for you Tim….ah who am I kidding….
PRAYERS for you and yours Tim! Stay the pillar of strength. You got this!
My takeaway from last nite was poor run blocking, especially on the right side, and also with traps inside. Pouncey didn’t impress either, then he got nicked up a lil.
Defense looked lethargic. But I don’t think Gase wants them or his offense showing too much yet.
As non Phin fans were chiding me last night, my come back was…”Hey, I’m glad we’re stinking it up in the 2nd PS game….gives the coaches and players a better understanding of what they need to work on now. If everything was smooth sailing, then you get over confident and will get blasted Week 1 when it counts!”
Next week’s dress rehearsal match will tell us more….if we see the same struggles and lack of effort, then we can worry a little more.
They might be playing very vanilla on defense
I think the run blocking a priority
We might see a lot of runs in the 3rd game
I can’t say I was disappointed in the game….mostly because I didn’t expect a lot. Our LB situation is a concern. I can see why they were looking at Tulloch. I’m still not sold on our defensive backfield either. Lippett scares me a little. If he’s in the running for a starting position…well, that kinda indicates what our situation is at CB. The defense overall just looked poor. Very flat. Good OL they were going against but no excuses. They didn’t play well.
***
On offense, I thought tanny played well. He had some negative plays, but he was our best offensive player. I’m not worried about the drops. They were both on timing throws, and that’s the kind of thing that isn’t always there in PS. I love that quick slant throw from inside the 5. I hope we see it a lot more often. I think Cameron is a good player. He’ll make catches. Plus, we can run that play to many guys, and use it to set up others. OL had it’s ups and downs. Tunsil played a lot, but I didn’t see anything that made him standout. Best you can say is that he didn’t screw up a lot. Bushrod got handled a few times. I thought he had an uneven game.
***
Overall, I just saw too much poor play against a good opponent. More on D, but only because the O warmed up against their #2s….not as good against their 1s. But, it’s still the PS. Hopefully, we’ll see improvement next game….that’s what you want at this point. Get better.
Piggy, yes…we better see more running in PS3…cause nothing will kill our passing game & protection than not running effectively and giving up on it, as we saw over the Skulldor years.
After going back and looking at the game in more detail I’m not really as disappointed as I felt the first night.
Maxwell and Alonso, were bad. I know a lot of DBs have problems with DezBryant, but Maxwell should have been a good matchup against him and it wasn’t close.
Isa had anther on/off game, some good but a few bad plays that really offset it.
Lippett was similar, a couple really bad whiffs on run support that really cost us, some decent coverage though.
I hope Howard comes back ready to go because we need him.
Alonso was bad, he wasn’t wrapping up his tackles, his coverage wasn’t great and he couldn’t disengage the OL. He had a tough assignment covering Witten, but this is his second game where he looked weak at the position so it’s starting to be concerning.
D line wasn’t as bad as they seemed, they really had the middle congested most plays, and they just really didn’t get the pass rushers pressure we need out if them and the DE’s didn’t set the edge well. I was probably most disappointed in Mario Williams, I just expected that matchup to be one he dominated.
Offense as a whole looked much better. Stills was great. Landry was better than most here was giving him credit for and the first drop in the endxone wasn’t really catchable. I know what we have come to expect with his miracle catches, but that one isn’t fair to put on him. The one where Tanny looked like he was throwingit away though was catchable, I think he was as caught off guard as most of us we that the ball stayed in play lol. Still very catchable, but really the only miscues I saw.
Same for Cameron. One really bad drop on an otherwise OK night. There wasn’t a lot of targets his way but I saw a couple decent blocks he threw and the one reception was fluid and productive. I hope to see him used a little more next game
Parker looked pretty good. He was open on a few plays but Tanny targeted others on those plays. Overall he looked pretty decent.
OL unit lookec much better as a whole. Bushrod looks to still be adjusting to the RG spot and had some mishaps that I hope work themselves out, but I still think he looked better than Turner. Hope he acclimates fast though.
I wonder if the should let Steen take a couple series at RT, he hasn’t looked bad in limited time at OC and he was a solid OG at Alabama.
Ajayi looked solid, but Foster kind of disappointed me. There was at least one running play he had a decent crease in the defense and he chose to bounce it back and lost yards where he had at least a couple positive yards had he hit the crease. He didn’t look to have great acceleration either. I’m sure a lot if it is knocking the rust off so not concerned just was excited to see him and I did get what I was hoping for.
Tanny was pretty good. The TD throws were really great passes perfect placement. Overall looked more comfortable and in command if the offense. Pocket awareness still a little bit of an issue, and I think it’s just not as natural for him as some others. Hoping Gase continues to bring him along there. He also had a couple plays where he should have know pretty early on he had nothing and probably looked to run. A couple plays stick out to me, where the play that was called was targeting man coverage and they got full zone. No one was going to be open and he didn’t have a check down guy. He needs to read that and take off sooner ratger than try to let it develop, I mean there was nothing there and I watched wait for it to develop but the routes they were running, it wasn’t ever going to. I thought maybe he was expecting a curl rout from Parker or something so maybe Parker screwed up, not 100% but he stared hard over there for something where the zones overlapped in such a way it wasn’t going to on that route. All in all though I was pretty happy with how he played and I think things are clicking better for him now. Hope to see more of it.
On the subject of right defensive play call for the right play. We had a bunch where they had us called perfectly and there wasn’t going to be anything from thise plays period and conversely a couple time where our defensive call was perfect for their offense to exploit. It happens but what I guess I’m saying is I think a lot of that was more luck than anything. I didn’t see the defenses shift of LBs call for a shift on the plays their defense was just perfectly set up and it wasn’t Prescott or Romo audibling out to exploit something they saw in the defensive lineup as much as it was the stars just aligned perfect for them and we got gashed hard on those plays.
Hope game 3 is better, we weren’t as poopy as tge score indicates but we gave some work to do.
from PBP
As he watched his defense get ripped for 433 yards, including 300 in the first half, Dolphins coach Adam Gase was startled by the number of missed tackles. Many of those came early in the game with the first-string defense on the field, and Dallas’ starting running back Alfred Morris picked up 85 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
“We need to improve in that category,” Gase said after losing 41-14. “It surprises me a little bit, just considering how much time we spend on tackling and some of the drills that we’re trying to do. We need to clean that up. We’re doing the right thing in practice, and then we’re kind of reverting back when we get on the field.”
Miami will take a day off after the late kickoff and get back to work addressing that problem Sunday.
Tackling was merely one component of the Dolphins’ defensive struggles. The line had trouble getting pressure against one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, and Miami ended the game with no sacks.
The Dolphins had defensive end Mario Williams and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh on the line, but were missing Cameron Wake and Earl Mitchell. Those four are the presumptive starters for Opening Day if healthy.
“You never want to come out here and lose in this fashion, but preseason is what it is,” Williams said. “There’s a lot of things we need to work on. These next two games for us will get us prepared for Seattle.
“I think we’re all good right now. It’s just little details that we need to iron out. We’re gonna be ready for the first game of the season.”
If anyone wants to rewatch the game and write an article, you’re welcome to use my nfl.com log in. 🙂
Maybe I can do that for next week’s game 🙂
Something funny….
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCgqDLswJx0
Definitely something guys will find funny but probably should dare never laugh at in the presence of their wives lol
My biggest problem was the same thing Gase said, missed tackles, and we broke none. Our LBs suck, we should go get one of those 2 down Mikes, one of them was rumored to us this week, go het him now. The offense looked pretty good, but still can’t run it. And #50, no matter who is wearing the jersey still can’t figure out when to lay off the QB. This game was an up and down the field in the first half, Jordan drops the ball in the endzone costing us one score, we give up a TD on a drive we get an int (#50 mentioned above). We could’ve been leading at the half, so even though the D couldn’t stop them at all we still could’ve been leading at the half.
The rest of the game we sucked, but we were the ones doing all the scoring last week in this situation, so win some lose some.
With all of that said, we play Seattle week one, and Russell Wilson 2.0 was playing QB for the Cowboys, and since we couldn’t stop him, I don’t expect to have much of a chance against the Seahawks.
No panic yet, it’s just preseason, biggest concern LB. If we had taken one in the draft it would still be an issue.
I definarely think Double Deuce shoot get more chances with the ones. He makes things happen. Last week he was out best RB and this week he lead the team in yards from scrimmage with some nice runs and a big reception on a broken play for 30+ yards.
I Pead myself a little.
I agree, and I think the last spot is between he and Damien, if they keep 4.
They made a comment on one play where RT changed the play and Ajayi ran for 9 on first down. That, and Gase’s innovation, and Stills’ seemingly better in tune with RT, and the Tunsil/ Bushrod on the oline should make the O much improved. Still holding out hope for the D.
the D looked horrible. I think they were better last year at this point.
All the starters looked great last, and we know what happened from there, so I don’t know what your point is. You have to take these games as they go, if you can’t stop someone you have to be able to keep up with them. If it was regular season we may have. Preseason they call lots of penalties and players do things they normally dont.
Fest is shortly before the election and Florida is a key swing state. At the fest we’ll need everyone’s help passing out these campaign buttons. Yes there is a better choice.

Well at least the team has three more weeks to clean things up to get ready for the season. Two more PS games to work on tackling and a lot of other stuff. Hopefully they will.
I hope they do. Because the run defense was pretty ugly on Friday. And those were are starters at LB.
I’m hoping it’s simply do not hitting much in practice and a new defense with some new personnel needing to get up to speed with each other. It’s not like this is a group that has played a lot together.
Don’t count on it Tim, Dallas’ historically bad D had no issues tackling.
As for the corner position we’re still down two guys in Howard and Culliver. So hopefully they will provide much needed talent and depth when they’re ready to go.
what keys do you push to go to the next line when doing the roster predictions? and what’s the link again?

I was just thinking about how a simple holding penalty and maybe not even that egregious of one changes the momentum of a football game all too often. Let’s say a team gets the kickoff and returns it to the 25. On their 1st play they hit a 17 yard pass play but there’s a flag for a hold. Instead of 1st and 10 at the 42, it’s now 1st and 20 on the 15. One hold just changed 27 yards in field position and forces the offense to have to get 20 yards for a 1st down. That’s a lot of yardage for one holding call.
Now I’m not saying don’t ever call holding but I do think the refs are way to nitpicky with what they call. Let the teams play a bit. To me this makes the game dull and harder to watch. Penalties move the football forward and backwards too often instead of exciting football plays.
What say you?
If you’re talking about preseason, then I agree too many holding penalties called, but in the regular season there’s not enough.
Tim,
Why do you want to take away one of the biggest game control mechanisms the NFL has? Lol
***
As they say, you could call holding on every play. We just need to teach our guys how to do it and not get caught!
I’m talking about it from a league perspective and entertainment standpoint. That play penalizes you three times, no 17 yard gain, 10 yards back even penalizing the KR to the 25, and you now have to get 20 yards for a 1st down.
I think what needs to happen is they need to let the borderline stuff go and only call really egregious actions. The ones where it jumps out at you, no doubt he hampered that guy’s ability to make a play. But they call really nitpicky stuff where they take away from the combative nature of the game. I’m talking about the entertainment product that we watch. The last few years the penalties have gone up and you see it and it makes the game worse.
Then you just give an advantage to the teams like the cheats that like to cheat, but then again they never call it on them, so maybe this would even the playing field.
Good point. LOL
What up Peeps !!!
Watched the game on PVR a couple hours later
my brief takeaways..
although playing against threes and twos, Pead looks like our best RB at this point.
starting Run game and run D was horrid.
Hull was the only ” that guy is all over” guy i noticed in a good way on D..
Gr ANTMAN is lightning quick and a keeper on returns.. had a couple miscues, but i like his Potential, and the idea of lessening Landry’s exposure to injuries.
Tanny looked good for the most part, throws to Stills were sweet.. Still would like to see him learn to move safeties
Last week i liked the look of Doughtey , this week he looked horrible.. hope this week was the anomaly, as opposed to the norm.
we have the players to be be much better this year if the stars align for us.. if they dont we have the potential to suck
Just my .02
Toba,
Well, at least we got potential! Lol
That Damn guy Potential seems to be our STAR every PreSeason.. I wish hed bring it in Regular Season 🙂
Steve, part of the reason we scored 2 TDs on Dallas was their D was making mistakes and missing tackles too. Our 2s and 3s did nothing on offense so the DAL D didn’t have much to worry about.
I’m hoping when the last 2 games of the season arrive, we won’t want to change the stadium name back to NoLife Stadium. We should make it hard for the other to team to play in our stadium, and rock them!
Tim,
Holding calls have always been a subjective thing. I’d just like consistency. Call it the same way, every game, for every team. But, that’s asking a lot of refs. It’s a hard call to make sometimes. I just want the game to be called fairly. It’s entertainment, yes. But, it’s a competition too. You can’t let things slide sometimes and not others. That sort of thing is already eating away at the competitive balance in the NFL. There’s been too much mucking with the rules. It’s a simple game they’ve made complex.
Yes but if you take away practicing drills for the physicality of the game and still call nitpicky penalties, then you get what we have. A game not getting better, but worse. I think the NFL has a problem and they need to reconsider what this game is.
Or how about on a hold you take the gain away and loss of downs like an incomplete – 2nd-10. It would at least allow more flow to the game. Push it back, push it back… it kills the flow of games and like I said it’s not always that bad.
Also think about on 3rd and 2. A team gets the 1st down but they held so it’s now it 4th and 2. We all know that’s a big decision to make, do we go for it or the FG, and if not in FG range you know if you don’t make it the other team has the ball close to midfield.
Why does a hold push teams back so far? It can become a horrible game because one guy is struggling with another player. 1st and 10 can become 1st and 30 and there are so many extra negative plays to make the game exhausting to watch. At least for me.
I’m looking for ways to speed up the game and keep it more entertaining.
This loss of down on a penalty will never happen, it would make the game easier to control with corruption.
I’m glad we got Tunsil and we didn’t have a shot at Hargreaves but damn I would love to have him. Anyone else see the two picks he made last night?
Btw when I was reviewing the last game. That was a total bs hands to the face on Phillips. His hands were well under the face mask.
Also the sack on Tanny was mostly a coverage sack. They were in one and our playcall was not conducive to a zone defense.
Neither Landry drop were really on him, nor were they on Tanny.
Offensively game was fairly solid just need to clean stuff up in a few spots.
Defense was sloppy.
Yeah the D looks like it’s just running around. Not really firing off the ball or playing overly aggressive.
Well the drop was some ones fault
Don’t you think?
I’m really liking Philips. I’d like to see him starting next to Suh. I’m really wanting to see Wake back in there. I’d like to see Williams moved to the right, and them have either Wake or Jordan at ldeLDE. Williams doesn’t look right at LDE.
I’d also move misi back to MLB, move Jenkins to SLB and Alonso to WLB. I’d like to see them try this next game.
Williams has had a soft camp. He was excused for many OTAs and didn’t play in PS game one. He’s just getting started. It’s 3 weeks before the RS. These vets know what needs to be done. Been there done that.
I heard the idea is when Wake is in the game he plays LDE and Williams at RDE at times. When Wake isn’t in there Williams will play LDE at times. I think we’re going to use a 7 man rotation at the least on the DL.
Holding should be a 5 yard penalty. It’s technically happening every play and therefore subjective to the ref calling the game. Especially with this new extra official on the field. 10 yards is kinda dumb.
I don’t know I would count Alonso out yet but I think he has a bit more acclimating left before he runs MLB well.
Offenses are already given unfair advantages in many ways. I’m fine with holding staying the way it is. Great defense can be just as exciting and entertaining as great offense.
That goes for the defense as well. If they hold, down over. I’m talking about borderline calls and don’t drag the game down. Let there be a flow. Moving teams up and down the field due to penalties is very unappealing. I want to watch exciting plays on either side of the ball. Not the refs deciding games.
D,
I don’t have much hope for Kiko. He looks small, slow, weak and uninterested in tackling. I can see why two teams have moved on from him.
I’ll wait to see some RS action before going there. I also noticed we do move our LBs around at different positions against some formations. Alonso did play some OLB and Jenkins and Misi at MLB on a few plays. Maybe they’re just going through the motions. I think those 3 can be pretty good. If it’s bad in Seattle than we might have a problem.
He’s good in coverage
Always has been
If we get ahead he is an asset
But if we can’t do that
He’s gonna get run over
he’s a good nickel LB
But in that wide 9 defense
We need thumpers that are going to finish a play
And I don’t see Kiko that way
Pouncey’s hip injury is to his left hip….in the offseason his right hip was operated on. Looks like he’ll sit the rest of PS & 1-2 RS games as well.
I wish Douglas would take the reigns, but seems Steen is ahead of him.
I just want the better player to step up.
Yeah, we’re going to need a good starting 5 to have any chance of coming home for Cleveland at least 1-1. 🙂
Somebody better step up. Steen looks fine, but I thought Douglas was serviceable as well. I also hope with more opportunities, Douglas can show he can handle it.
Hey Randy
Watching the LLWS? Iowa vs Cali
Mike E is a pig murderer
I’ve seen your pics on Facebook
You jerk!!!!
LOL! It wasn’t me Piggy, it was a pig roast party I was invited to. My nieces husband’s birthday. My favorite part of the party was the ice luge they had. Me and my sonnies
gave it quite the workout, along with some damage to a large bottle of Tito’s Handmade Vodka.
Honestly
“MarinateMe” had it coming
That was his name btw
“MarinateMe”
You will be remembered MarinateMe
Always had a good heart but an unfortunate name
LMAO! FWIW, I didn’t really eat much of “MarinateMe”. I had a burger and hot dog (Hebrew National). I just tasted him. Didn’t care for the preparation, kind of a waste.
Damn, Steen benches 500 lbs. That’s outrageous!
Douglas is strong as hell too
Iowa beats California 5-1
Piggy,
Kiko is supposedly good in coverage, but he wasn’t in that last game. From what I saw, they played him on the outside a fair amount early, but he struggled in coverage.
***
I’m not gonna get too crazy one way or another in PS, but he didn’t do anything good. As Tim said, we need to see him in some real games though. Hopefully he does better.
Randy, Buffalo didn’t really move on from Alonso, they had a chance to get a star RB, so they parted ways, but yeah I agree Alonso has shown nothing yet.
Mike E: “THOR” Syndegaard was sensational last night!! Your Mets still have a chance for the playoffs! The Marlins, however, minus Chen, Conley, Bour and Stanton, have only a very slim shot. Doesn’t look like they’ll get healthy in time to make a playoff run.
Happy Birthday Mike E.!!! 🎉🎈🎂🎁
Thanks Herd! 🙂

Does Tannehill belong in neighborhood with Marino, Manning, as this TV graphic says? Hyde5 blog: http://fw.to/SDvgi6Q
I really hate the media narrative regarding Tannehill and Luck.
LUCK does not deserve to be included in the graphic if Tannehill doesn’t.
Luck has a lower completion percentage, more int’s, more fumbles, loss attempts, less completions and a lower passer rating that Tannehill in his career and has been less durable.
I am NOT saying Tannehill is the better QB, only that the unquestioned inclusion of Luck is unwarranted.
Oh, by the way, Tannehill has a better passer rating through the first four years of his career than Manning too. (again just stats, not saying Tanny is better)
The difference is those others win, and last time I checked that’s what it’s all about.
Additionally, Ryan has completed a higher percentage of passes than all three in his first 3 years. (More than Peyton, more than Luck and more than even Marino) again, I am just cherry picking stats, but as per the stats HE DOES belong on the list with them.
** first FOUR years
RT is more comparable to Archie Manning.
