Ask Mike – 2016 Season – Week4

from Wyo

Q – So after a somewhat horrible start the Fins have 4 home games and a bye.
Tennessee has played tuff
Pittsburgh will feast on our secondary
Bills will be tough us as usual
The Stej are like looking into a mirror (yes that is pathetic!)

So at 2-6 or at best  3-5 what is your take on the rest of the season?

I’m not going to say we’re only 2-6, or or 3-5, because I really expect that somehow, we’re going to turn things around, so after we beat TEN this week, it’s the explosive offense of PIT, with Le’veon Bell healthy, and and Antonio Brown, but for some reason, we’ve played the Steelers pretty tough, so I’m not conceding that game at all. We won the last one 34-28, got ripped off by referee Gene Steratore and his goons when they didn’t call a fumble, and also didn’t allow us to recover. That was trash, and because of that, we’re going to beat them every time we play them.

I say we beat TEN, PIT, finally beat the Bills, and then beat the Jets, who will at that time have Geno Smith as their starter, because Fitzgerald will have thrown 30 INT’s after 7 games. I’m not going to go too far in the future, but at 5-3, and 2nd place in the division, we’re not that bad off. 😉

Q – Oinks to you Mike.  Is it too early to talk about the draft?  Do you have your eye on any position?  How about players?

If you ask this pig, I say LINEBACKERS please.  Have you noticed how well the Vikings defense is playing.  I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they drafted Barr and Kendricks very recently.

Officially, it’s NEVER too early to talk about the draft, because football fans especially are draft obsessed, so it’s never too early. On the other hand, if it’s talked about in the sense that our season is over, HELL YEAH it’s too early! As I pointed out to Wyo, we’re going to feast on this homestand, right the ship, and be sitting in playoff contention at 5-3, so while the draft is always important, we’ll be talking about how good the team is playing, how Tannehill looks like the lightbulb went on, and Son will be raving about how well our QB is playing. Lou will be moving into a comfy rubber room, because after Tannehill plays well, well, what is there to complain about after all?

OK, back to the draft. We definitely need LB’s, but man, we also need DE’s too. Our current crop of talent at DE is on Medicare, so we better start finding young talent to rush the passer. Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett is a guy I have my eye on, and at ILB, Ohio St. MLB Raekwon McMillan. We’re going to need to fill other positions too, because after a full season, holes always open up, so we’ll leave it at that for now.

from Bookman

Q – Mike,

The Dolphins begin an unprecedented 4 game home stand, and with a bye week inserted in there, will not leave the state of Florida for 5 weeks. Do you see this as the turning point, or breaking point of this season? In other words do you think they will win at least 3 of the 4 games?

Definitely the turning point brother, nothin’ like home cookin’! We will win ALL of these games, and everyone on this blog will be happier than a pig in shit, except of course for the Piggy, who is always as happy as that. I think Gase is working very hard to get us where we need to be, and although it hasn’t showed very much as of yet, I think Gase after the first weeks of trial and error is ready to commit to a regular lineup, and and there won’t be as much shuffling players around, especially with the starters, and more specifically, RB. We’re not going to see Damien Williams starting again, at least we better not! I think Ajayi and Drake are going to see a lot more action from now on, and I think in general, we’re going to see thos at most positions, although I did read that Gase wants to see more of Michael Thomas at S, which surprised me, because I thought Isa had played pretty well.

After beating Ten and PIT, the Fest will really have the fan base excited, and playing what now becomes a huge divisional game against the Bills, Hard Rock will be jumping with electricity, and the bills will be shocked at how loud the new and improved Hard Rock is, and it won’t hurt that the fans will be engaged as the team will be shooting for a 3 game win streak that that point. Can you dig it?
____________________________________________________

from Tim

Q – Who do you think the two RBs will be when Gase narrows down the rotation to two? Also which one do you think will likely emerge as the lead guy? Thank you!

I think Ajayi will be the lead back for now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s quickly overtaken by Kenyan Drake. I think Ajayi right now is more suited for the heavy lifting, as he’s done it before carrying a huge load at Boise St., while Kenyan, unfortunately oft injured, and also behind Derrick Henry, kept missing his chance. If Drake can stay healthy, he’d be ideal for offense, because although Ajayi caught a fair amount of passes his senior year (50), I think Drake looks more suited to catch the ball out of the backfield, and I think that’s important to Gase. Regardless, as you can see, I think the 2 guys going forward will be Ajayi and Drake. I think Foster is more of an insurance policy, at least I hope he is. I want to see our own guys brought along, Foster is done.

It’s going to be interesting to see how different the offense is when we start running the ball in earnest, and how much better it will look when we actually have balance. Look around, there isn’t a team out there that’s winning football games consistently by just throwing the ball all over the place, and although I do believe it’s a passing league, the rules are set up to enhance that, you still need to run the ball well, even with an elite QB, but of course to a lesser degree. I think if we can run the ball 25 times a game, it’s going to show positively on the scoreboard for us. Our defense won’t be on the field for 45 minutes, we’ll be getting into the endzone more regularly, and most importantly, we’ll be winning football games!

from Toba

Q – Yo Mike E: what/who do you see as the result of the “ Feed the RB’s “ approach that Gase spoke of moving to in lieu of the Rb by Committee..

Who finishes the year with most carries and yards.. Do you see it still being 4 guys utilized equally ? or will a star arise..

Doug Patterson/Manitoba

Ha! Seems to be the popular topic! Like I said to Tim, I think Ajayi will be shouldering the load initially, but I think the more carries Kenyan Drake gets, he’s going to make it so you won’t want to take him off the field. Although RB wasn’t a huge need in the 3rd RD, and one could easily argue that we needed a LB, I think Drake is going to make us forget that, and for once, taking a RB early will pay off. I think Drake is talented, and he could be like a Chris Johnson for us. I know he’s not quite as fast Chris Johnson, but I he’s fast enough, and I think he will put his receiving skills on show for us this season too, and he will prove his worth.

It’s time to look at the future, and Arian Foster is a lot more the past than the future. He still has value, and gives us some depth, but I want to see Ajayi and Drake get lots of touches now, and if he really likes Damien Williams that much, maybe we cut Foster and let him hook up somewhere else, or just hold on to him, and break in case of emergency. That’s fine with me.

Proud of the New York Mets. Listening to sports radio this morning, I’m embarrassed by how some fans react. With all the injuries the Mets had this season, you’d think fans would be pleased they had a great end of August and September to go 27-13 in their last 40 and give us a shot to continue in the playoffs. Nope, spoiled bastards call up and say “I don’t want to see Familia in a Mets uniform next spring”. Idiots! Dude saved 51 games this season, and you don’t get to the game last night w/o him. I feel bad for the kid, he was groomed as a starter, but when the Mets closer was suspended, he was asked to step in as closer, and the rest is history. Like it is with most closers and fans, you’re as good as your last game, but that just drives me crazy. He’s not perfect, but he has nasty stuff, and he’s still pretty young. Sometimes I hate sports because of a-hole fans I heard this morning.

You’d think Mets fans would just be happy we got to witness meaningful games in October, including a well pitched gem in a playoff game by one of our young ace pitchers.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Totally agree. I texted with my friend last night who’s a big Mets fan and he was being one of those fans. LOL

  4. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Damn! Xavien Howard was injured in practice yesterday, may miss Titans game.

  5. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Mike E,

That was a hell of a game. SF is so tough to beat in the playoffs. I have no regrets and they shouldn’t either. It was a much better way to end than the Orioles had to deal with. They played some of the best baseball out there the past few months.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

They sure did New Age, and for that, I’m thankful. Playoffs always comes down to pitching, and last night, SF had the better of it. The fact that we were even involved in a 1 game playoff is amazing, this team showed tons of heart. I remember when we first signed Asdrubal Cabrera, I was skeptical of that move. Now, he might be my favorite Mets player. They have some tough decisions ahead, such as Cespedes (when he opts out), Neil Walker, Jay Bruce (I’d sign him, hope he does well, if not, trade him because a power hitting OF for $13M per is a bargain), and then they have to sort out the aftermath if they can’t sign Cespedes, and what they do to offset it. Then of course, we have to see what shape our pitchers are in, and if we even have 5 starters, and/or are Gsellman and Lugo 2 of them until Harvey, deGrom, Wheeler and Matz are ready. Ugh!

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

Those are good problems to have though. Lots of talent. I just wish the hitting was more consistent but they still played a great game and season. Next year looks bright.

  6. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Mike E — great answers as usghe, but this is one heck of a prediction.

“I say we beat TEN, PIT, finally beat the Bills, and then beat the Jets”

I’d say we probably go 2-2. 3-1 would be awesome, 4-0 would be a frick’n miracle

  7. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

And Mike E — sorry your Metskies got “Bumgarnered” last night. All I can say is been there and done that. You guys should still hold your head high…great season, especially given all the injuries.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I hear you on that, and yes, you have been through that as well in’14. I’m just happy we were in that game, and I’m not mad at the team in the least. They made what looked like a dead season a very exciting one.

  8. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Mike E,

Your homer-aid is encouraging and I do hope we start ‘gelling’; or whatever needs done. We have a ton of time to get this thing worked out. The players just have to do it. I also agree with you and Piggleston the 3rd. I think DE is harder to get later but I’d love to see both a LB and DE in the first 2 rounds.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I can’t even explain why I have this faith, but you’ve been with me long enough to know that is not usually the case. I’m feeling good vibes bro! lol

  9. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    another great Mike E

(Piggy googles Myles Garrett and Raekwon McMillan)

I did notice the BOTW’s finger looks a little old though….

  10. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    New Age

If we don’t/can’t sign Cespedes, that’s a HUGE void in the lineup, and there really isn’t a guy currently in the organization that can come close to replacing the power bat from the right side. I wish we could find another solid right handed bat, we’re pretty heavy with lefties, assuming Duda and/or Loney are back, Granderson, Bruce, Conforto etc. I know Reyes and Cabrera are switch hitters, but Cabrera does most of his damage from the left side. OK, enough Mets, or maybe after today, we focus solely on the Dolphins. 🙂

  11. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m thinking we win 3 of the next 4
    But if we go 4-0…
    That will be incredible

    • D's avatar D says:

I liked Henry, but felt Drake the better fit for us given what we had and the way the backs are used in this system. Still feel it was the right call. Now if we could have used that 2nd on Deion Jones, i think i would have been happier. We could have picked up the same CB’s that they were suggesting in that article, though we would likely have had missed out on Caroo to do it.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Not sure it was a matter of making the right call, they prioritized CB, and I agree, and then when our next pick came around, he was gone.

  12. D's avatar D says:

I have been thinking about what Gase is doing. I don’t think its all punishment, i think he is getting the younger players involved to strengthen the depth of this team and also to have leverage and more strategy in off-season for re-signs, etc. Its easy to point out most people on this team as not playing well, but i think the motivation is deeper. Think about it, if the drop off currently isnt much between your starter and your backup, you can get some motivation for the starter and increase the young guys development.

We need it, and we need it at most positions. I dont think we really have the quality at backup though to do it on the OL. With the idea that things can be turned around, even though i highly doubt we can turn things around to anything more than 8-8 finish, we probably cant bench Tanny, but he surely needs it. I really think it sends a bad message to say, this guy is excluded from the punishments dealt out to all the others. If we do find ourselves coming out of this next game with similar performance from him, in a win or loss, or we finish out this home stand in a at 2-6 or 3-5, i think you really have to consider bringing Doughty up and giving him a go. I also feel that regardless of how well things go through the end of the year, you still have to consider drafting a QB in a day 1-2.

I think that we can get at least one start right away LB in day 2, possibly 2, i might would consider LB as a day 1 this year, but it not early. There are no guys right now that arescreaming top 5-10 pick, but there are a bunch of them screaming latter first round talent, so many so that i think it backs up all the way to latter 2nd, maybe even early 3rd. I really am not impressed with McMillan, but i also havent really looked at him closely. Reeves-Maybin UTenn, Cummingham from Vandy, either Jarrad Davis or Alex Anzalone from UF, Reuben Foster or Tim Williams at Alabama, Beckwith, Richie Brown Miss State are all really good fits for us in a wide 9.

Im not feeling DE as a need, i know our guys are aging but i think given their current status, unless we lose someone, that DE would be better served grabbing a guy like Bryan Cox Jr, or Deatrich Wise from Arkansas, maybe Lewis Neal from LSU, as a guy to rotate with Wake his first year. Id much rather invest early in CB, because this is a fairly weak CB class. DE isnt super deep but deeper than CB for sure.

  14. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We need a difference maker on defense, really a couple of difference makers. Whether it’s 2 LB’s, or a DE and a LB, we need guys that really impact the game. We don’t have that now, at least not at those positions.

The development where our place in Jupiter is had a mandatory evacuation. Not sure how bad it’s going to be but that doesn’t sound good.

    Good job, Mike!!!

  18. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Tim — where in Jupiter……on the barrier Island part? That part is real at risk. Even not at it too.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Right by the intracoastal and ocean.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

So in btwn the intracoastal and the ocean…..that’s the barrier isle part and heck yeah that is at risk. Those are primary first evac zones. Not sure if it was mandatory here, but the barrier islands are the only places down my way (farther from the worst projected hit zone) where the county told people “get out or you are on your own when the storm hits.”

  19. Mike
you think we’re going to be 5-3 after this homestretch yet you’ve got you’re eye on Myles Garrett. How does that work?

  20. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Stanger, you can walk to the ocean in 5 minutes and intracoastal in 10 or so. It’s better by bike but yeah it’s right there. Friends of ours who live down that way battened down the hatches for us but we heard it was a mandatory evacuation.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Do you have anyone there to make sure the place is battened down?

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Well then sure does sound like it is up front and center for this. Least the five minutes walk to the water makes it sound outside of the worst storm surge vulnerability. But that just really means waves might not bash your place to pieces, but you sure as heck might get flooded.

And I have been to Jupiter, but only to the barrier Isle part, which would be the most vulnerable of all. What you described could be another area too even if it fits.

Nice friends btw…..they had plenty of their own stuff to worry about. Knock on wood — but looks like my main concern right now is power or not. Big difference.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The Barrier Island is the part with the intracoastal on one side and the ocean on the other right, with all the mansions? I believe Tiger Woods has a place there. We’re on the mainland but I have fished on the intracoastal side. There are some amazing houses there.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Not the part I have been too, but yeah it would include Tiger’s place. You try not to get too involved on the lastest changes in reports, but the latest track has the thing more out to sea. Awesome for me, and it takes Jupiter more out of the high impact zone area.

If anything is bullshit it’s that. Tannehill’s comp % is higher because of the number of short passes he throws; especially the number of bubble screens he throws. His accuracy sucks so if he starts throwing too many intermediate passes his comp % would go way down and if you look at those stats you’ll see that it’s true.
Really?? why is he 4th in the league for completions over 20 yards? Why is he 6th in the league in completions over 40 yards?? This is another myth propagated by haters like you.
Ryan’s 7.8 yard per completion average is also the 6th best in the league. He doesn’t dink / dunk like you would have us think.
    _____________________________________
87 of his passes, or 63% thrown 10 yds or less. His comp% 11-20 yds is 54% and from 21-30 is 43%. Like I said, he sucks throwing in the intermediate range. Read it and weep. His 7.8 yd per comp is due to yac.

      But Gase quickly added:
“I think we need to do a better job of actually blocking guys, too. Everybody wants him to step up. Where?”

That’s what I’ve been saying for years. What pocket to step up in? When protection breaks down Tannehill usually escapes to the outside because that’s the only place he can go. Most of our pressure comes right up the middle. That’s been an ongoing problem with this team for years. I’m so glad Gase recognizes that so he knows it needs to get fixed and soon.

What I see from Kiko is a fairly quick guy that can get to the point of attack fairly well going sideline to sideline. He’s a small MLB like Zach. He can make plays if he’s kept clean and free to flow. But, run at him, and he’s easily taken out of the play. He also still seems slow in coverage…which is a little surprising

Randy I saw New England Run some plays against him where he had no chance whatever decision he made was the wrong decision by the design of the offensive play we had him fall into a Zone and Belichick have the tight end in the wide receiver cross directly in front of him if he leaned right towards one player or lean left towards the other player the quarterback would throw the other direction quickpass 8 yard completion plus yards after the catch

D, I’ve seen it for years and so does Gase. I’ll trust my eyes and Gase saying the same thing thank you very much. The part about “Gase, who has been loathe to criticize his quarterback, acknowledged recently that Tannehill needs to improve his pocket presence.” was from Adam Beasley not me. It was from Wyo’s link.

You also challenged me the other day on why the LBs are looking exposed, that’s what VJ said. So take it up with our DC, I think he knows a little bit more about it than you. 😉

    Tim

that quote from Gase doesn’t say there is no pocket to step into
its says Gase acknowledges Tannehill needs to improve his pocket presence
and we need to do a better job of blocking guys

There is a lot of pressure coming up the middle
    I agree with that
but the stuff people freak out about is often the strip sacks where the plays is coming around the edge and it seems like everything else is the stadium can see it coming – except Tannehill has no idea the guy is there

    mike,
all he had to do was move to the right and ajayi was wide open. Rodgers and any other QB with some pocket presence do that routinely.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

What I guess I’m saying is, on that play, he had no pocket presence, and I’d bet every QB makes that mistake from time to time. Unfortunately, he probably does it more than he should.

      • D's avatar D says:

At the very least he should have tucked the fuckign ball away and not just held it out there for them to take. Two big men playing tummy sticks right beside you comes with a lot of grunting and groaning… ask FFR if ya dont believe me.

    • D's avatar D says:

go look at the interception play he threw overthrowing Landry on a crossing route, people said oh James didnt give him time but the friggin announcers even said James blocked him about as well as can be expect on that play, Tanny needs to scramble out of the pocket. He had like 4 options on that play and he did none of them. Instead he stands there and the throws an off balance throw right to the defender.

      • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

The one in bengals game? That was so much like a henne pass that I almost threw up in my mouth when I saw it from coaches film.

    • there was a similar play to the one Tannehill lost the ball on with Dalton and he moved up and slid to his right to buy time. if Tannehill moved up quicker he would have been able to do the same thing. except, he did the lame thing.

  36. D's avatar D says:

Im sorry Tim ill trust my eyes over yours, and Gase didnt say he didnt miss opportunities to step up, he just said the OL always give him that chance. You read what you want to, but i have watched plays and known before the pressure came that he was past his timing on that play and should have gotten rid of it, and i have seen on those same plays exit opportunities by the time he should have bene looking for one. He can keep his eyes downfield and still notice pressure, he can also keep his eyes downfield and notice the plaes to step up. The int in the cincy game, BIG time open to the left side of the line, and he was looking that way and had the receiver the play was designed for coming open that direction, instead he stands there, he literally goes into a statue mode and then as the guy is falling against his legs….which still arent moving he off balance throws the fucking thing right to their defender. Please dont try to sell me on he doesnt get an opportunity to escape because he damn sure does.

  37. D's avatar D says:

If you guys think his problem isnt pocket presence….like 0 pocket presence then you are kidding yourselves.

      poor pocket presence
doesn’t move around to avoid pressure
      poor ball placement
piss poor comp% beyond 10 yds
poor ball security. hell even Wentz knows enough to hold onto the ball with 2 hands

can’t get the ball out quick to a receiver. takes too long to make a decision and ball gets there late on too many throws.

Yeah Piggy, that was Tunsil. He never got his anchor set, total abuse on that play. James actually did what he was supposed to. Look at the OG’s though, he had at least 3-4 yards to step up in that pocket.

Thats a nice draft Wyo, Tabor and Cox Jr would give us some nice young anchors on our defense, and addressing the elephant in the room. I dont see taking a guy like Kelly as a fuck off to Tanny as much as could be necessary if he continues to play this way, or even a needed insurance plan/future plan if he does bounce back some.

    • D's avatar D says:

I think Cal’s QB Davis Webb is a pretty undervalued guy right now, somewhat under the radar guy that if we didnt feel pushed to go 1st/2nd at QB we probably could find value in him in a mid round. I prefer to really go strong at the position this year though kinda how you mocked it. If Jalen Reeves-Maybin was there in the 4th i would have taken him over your guy.

  42. D's avatar D says:

I think with the way i feel about Tanny right now, even if he closes out the season well, im still going to be skeptical about any chance of having consistency in the future. I don’t remember 4 years of inconsistency, I remember a kid that improved a little each year until his 4th year.. Last year was a bad year for Tannehill, and a bad year for the team as well. We were awful last year, and although Tanny didn’t help us out of it, it wasn’t him who got us into it either. I think some of us are tougher on our own guys than we are on other QB’s around the league.

    • D's avatar D says:

Of course we are, we care more for our team so we want someone who is going to help our team. I dont think he helps us and i care a lot more about the team than i do for him individually.

    • D's avatar D says:

You remember 3 years of acceptable inconsistency because he was still developing….He was most certainly inconsistent, its just there was a reason to expect it….year 5 MIkey, year 5….this isnt a time to be expecting him to still have that new QB smell, he should be there, and if he isnt, then i dont think you can be confident it miraculously turns around.

  46. D's avatar D says:

Mike i know you are trying to stay positive, but when you look at probability, and oyu looke at 5 years of data saying that nnot just game to game, but half to half and sometimes only a quarter of a game is good but the rest bad, how cant you feel confident that tomorrow, he turns into this guy who for 48 straight quarters plays good football. Seriously we are very lucky to get 4 in a row at this point.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    ———————————————
Thats not the point Mike, the point is i do not see that happening…and with everything being what it is and the first 4 games showing not just no deviation from the previous patterns but a continued acceleration of them, then no i dont think its working. There has been no indication it is. He still cant read a defense, he still doesnt understand play development, he still doesnt put the throws where they need to be consistently, he still doesnt feel pocket collapsing, he still doesnt protect the ball in critical times, etc etc etc.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Right, but we haven’t been playing to win, we’ve been playing the evaluation game so far. Let’s see what happens when we stick with the right guys.

    • D's avatar D says:

Im still going to be on the edge of my seat when we lose close ones, im just over hoping for a change that is has in no way shown me is actually going to happen.

  51. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    D

I think he needs to feel confident again, and my guess is, he’s not feeling that at all right now. He puts together a good game, that gets it started, and it might also get the team started, and then we stick with players that should have been playing all along, and the team gets confident, and it starts rolling. Of course I’m being optimistic, because I want the team to succeed, and this year, if he doesn’t succeed, the team doesn’t.

    • D's avatar D says:

Ya know Mike though, at some point, confidence is a personal problem. If he doesnt have it for himself, no one can give it to him. I do agree he has confidence issues but thats also where im losing hope. He doesnt seem to be able to shut out the noise, pull up his panties and get back to fucking doing things. He doesnt believe he can do it, and there isnt anything fans, or teammates or coaches can do about that. Maybe Philbin broke him, but that’s of no consequence now, he doesnt seem to be getting unbroke.

FWIW, i hope you are right and i am wrong, it would be a lot easier to have him miraculously fixed and productive than start over. You really think thats what i want? Its not, its just what i have come to feel is the hard reality.

Your last statement is EXACTLY why i feel like i feel. If he doesnt succeed the team doesnt….and my feeling is he wont and we wont. I want that to end just like you i just feel its more likely going to be someone else get us there than him.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

OK, I get that, but sometimes it’s hard to tell if you want him to succeed or fail, so we can just move on. Just being honest, it’s how it looks to me, and not necessarily from you specifically, but mostly the more vocal anti-Tannehill people.

    • D's avatar D says:

Im calling for better….wherever and whenever it can get here. I dont care if it comes from a miracle, i dont care if it comes fro, replacing him, i dnt care if it comes from riding out the rest of an already bad season and drafting for new hope. Whatever gets us there and fastest possible. I definitely have less of a level of hope with continuing the path we have been and expecting completely different results. I am actually pretty stuck between riding it out with him, or just bring in Doughty now because i think the end result is a high draft pick next year from either choice.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Hey, at least your being honest. I think it would be a huge mistake to do that, pull the plug, and it hurts the team financially next year too. Tanny has a $10.4M dead money cap hit next season.

      • D's avatar D says:

Actually there is an out clause that keeps it from being that hard. I do understand that it comes at a cost, but so does continuing to ride with a guy who is dragging you down.

    ——————————————————————–
I would say im not either of them. I dont care if we succeed with him or someone else, i just want the TEAM to succeed. I dont want him to fail, at least as long as we depend on him, but only because he takes us down with him. I am not sure i can express where i am any better because its neither of those because my focus isnt his success or failure, but ours, the teams.

  54. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    D

It’s like I never wanted Jordan Cameron here, I thought he was overrated, concussion prone. The big difference is, the TE isn’t the most important position on the team. No biggie if he pans out, or doesn’t. I mean it’s bad for the team that he hasn’t really done anything since he got here, but the TE doesn’t make or break a season. The QB doesn’t either, but it’s the most impactful position on the field. I want him to succeed because it’s better for our team.

    • D's avatar D says:

Again, thats also my point. You can survive if your TE sucks, but if your QB is bad, you cant expect much of the offense to work. I mean if a defense has no confidence the QB can beat them, they stack the box and fucking kill the run game and crush the QB with pass rush. They go cover 0 or cover 1 and just maul you. If your TE sucks they just dont worry about covering him closely lol.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

So do you think I don’t understand that, and that’s why I root for Tannehill to improve? Just wondering

    • D's avatar D says:

I think Mike our whole position boils down to this, we believe and want the same thing. You think things still have a chance of turning around for him, and i dont. Other than that we are pretty much on the same page, about how we feel about our team.

it is like some on here dont remember one of the greatest to ever play still didnt win a damn thing for this team cause there was no other talent around him. like they think it is so easy to just go find another greatest ever qb cause they come along at the rate of 38 a year.

first like that is so easy to find. and then second what then, the offense has to score 54 a game to even have a chance. yeah well no thanks i have seen that movie before. i think working on a team rather then one player is the way to fix this shit fest

    • D's avatar D says:

so to just talk about replacing only that position just gets so narrow minded and boring. i get it is the easiest target but it is just boring by now.

    • D's avatar D says:

No guarantee it will be worse either. Just sayin.

Im also not pushing for it man. You didnt read my other posts im sure, but i could go either way, i just dont have confidence that Mike has that it turns around. I cant believe that 80 quarters of up down up down up down just miraculously patterns out into 48 straight quarters of smooth sailing. Its just not in my nature to lie to myself this damn long before calling myself out. I was all in on Tanny as soon as we drafted him and it wasnt until last year that i started to sour, i even was pretty damn excited to see the new Tanny this year with Gase the Qb whisperer telling him how purdy his mouth was and how he shure did like how he flung that football. Reality kinda sucks.

  64. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    D,

my whole point is it isnt just one guy, this whole team is a shit storm with the exception of one of two players. i am just saying this day in and day out just bashing the qb is boring. i mean how many more ways can some say he sucks.

and why are you so interested in my nipples

    • D's avatar D says:

I see your point, but as Miek and i hashed out…we arent probably far off on our feeling regarding it.
