  4. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I figured I might as well start up the argument this morning no there are four or five on here that will think the coaches don’t know what the hell they’re talking about and believe they know more than NFL professionals.

But what makes the Dolphins continue to believe in Tannehill and project a turnaround is that he’s a great quarterback when he has time. Yes, all quarterbacks are better when they get time, but time apparently makes Tannehill one of the NFL’s best.

In 101 dropbacks this season, Tannehill has completed 73.7 percent of his passes when he’s not under duress. His quarterback rating in that situation is 116.6.

Tannehill is also outstanding against the blitz as long as his protection holds up, so this isn’t an issue of him being confused or afraid of pressure. It’s an issue of being allowed time to throw the ball.

So when teams blitz Tannehill but don’t get there, they face a quarterback who completes 62.5 percent of his passes and has a QB rating of 111.8.

That leaves the Dolphins believing their quarterback problem is to a large extent a protection problem rather than a Tannehill problem.

  5. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

“But my trained eye tells me otherwise”

  6. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Seems like NFL professionals already know that hence him seemingly never having the time to be a good QB. With 4 first round OL healthy, lets see what we have today. Since he takes a lot of unnecessary sacks(what other NFL professionals have said), he probably should work on that to ensure his continued employment as a starter.

I have determined through a long study that we need to stop wearing white at home. We spend 3/4 of the season or more in white it needs to stop. White is your road color and should stay that way.

  10. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Rock

    I can appreciate your argument

I me not sure if you are expressing your own thoughts on Tannehill or what you think the coaches are thinking

As a counterargument I will keep it simple: it’s much easier to say good things about Tannehill Before a game than after a game.

If you tried to type that post after the game last week, you would probably puke on your own keyboard before you finished typing

Sometimes, it’s worthwhile to throw away the statistics and judge by your own “trained eye”

I also think you can really judge too much about what the coaches and FO think of a QB based on what they publicly say. The long standing old rule with QBs and coaches is that coaches can’t hurt their confidence. If Tanny was 200% worse than he is now – I bet they still say positived things about him. I’m not so sure that behind the scenes he powers that be are not already preparing for life without Tannehill

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

The problem is I don’t like a lot of the alternatives out there

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think he’s a carry the team type of QB who just throws all day. I think he’d be very efficient with a balanced offense and solid pass pro. That’s been my view of him since his 2nd season.

Let’s hope we see that type of game today. We have to run the ball today or I don’t think we can match the Steelers offense.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

The problems on this team are so numerous
      It’s hard to isolate one

But if we were a good team – I still think there is enough to judge to think he would still be a problem

And I don’t want to build around him

I just want to see if we can get better elsewhere is spite of him

  15. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Even if I don’t think Tanny is the answer at QB doesn’t mean I don’t root for him to kick ass every week. I hope our OL steps up. It would be a refreshing change. But, I still think the skill players on this team need to do more to help this OL because they’re struggling right now. The playmakers gotta make some plays when they’re there…or maybe even do something to make a play themselves. We see so little of that outside of Landry.

  16. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

i actually think them losing this game doesnt nothing but help. keeps them in a top 5 draft position and keeps the steelers equal to the cheats for home field advantage.

  17. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Our Pouncey will want to show up their Pouncey. As Tim said we need to be able to run today to jeep Ben and Bell off the field We need more sustained drives (less 3 and iuts). Steelers are missing a few pieces on D. The upset is there for the taking.

  22. New Age's avatar New Age says:

It is nice to see all 5 OL starters…actually starting today. We’ve put a lot of resources on those guys and they’ve really been some stay puffs so far. I know the position is tough but I haven’t seen another OL that has to wait for Game 6 to actually see their starters all play together.

wow so now it is bash thill on something you have no idea if it would have happened or not.. looked like a perfect throw and he probably would have picked up the first down with ease but i get it, it is fun to bash him on things you even have no idea if it is true or not
