Is this the LAST Ask Mike of the season????

Before you say “I hope so”, just realize what that means!!! 🙂

    Tim:
I don’t believe that rule has changed. The owners would revolt if that was the case as it would completely change the whole dynamics of the hiring process for new coaches

  5. I honestly don’t expect much for this wild card game. Our defense is too injured at this point and playing pretty awful. Meanwhile the Steelers are playing great ball, especially on the offensive side.

This game could get ugly fast unless the D has some miraculous turn around this week.

  6. BoulderPhinfan says:

I would much rather have maxwell and lippett than howard and lippett. The last 2 games howard got wrecked (as my 11 year old son would say).

I think part of the bad defense the last 2 games has to do with maxwell being out.

    • BoulderPhinfan says:

      ^ against the steelers

    • I said last week that Howard got burned bad against Buffalo and people didn’t agree. I distinctly remember at least 5-6 plays where he looks horrible against the Bills.

I’d feel much better with Byron in there.

      • The Flying Pig says:

        He’s up and down

That’s not crazy when it comes to rookies

        I think he’s the future
But I don’t think you are wrong

    • Ken says:

Howard is much better in coverage than Maxwell. Maxwell is feast or famine. He will make a nice play and then then blow an easy assignment. I didn’t see Howard getting wrecked at all last week. I maintain most of our current coverage issues comes from exploiting our safeties in the cover 2 scheme we have been running

      • BoulderPhinfan says:

        Ken,
Howard can be a good CB but right now he’s not as reliable as maxwell. Last week he got burned plenty. Both Brady and Taylor were going after him.

Maxwell did a good job against brown the first game against steelers. He’s more physical at the line of scrimmage and really got into browns head.

      • Just look at the Bills game. There were multiple times in Cover 2 where it should’ve been howard covering the sideline, but instead he was drifting to the middle of the field and he got toasted.

Later on in the game they exploited that and he over played the sideline for a quick curl route by Watkins for 15 yards are so.

    He’s up and down

That’s not crazy when it comes to rookies

    I think he’s the future
But I don’t think you are wrong

    ——————————
He’s definitely the future, but we are talking about a game this week. It’s our first playoff game in 8 years. I want Byron on the field because I believe at this moment he gives us a better chance than Howard. I’m talking the present, not next year or the follow years.

  9. BoulderPhinfan says:

I guess PFF agrees about maxwell. From Jackson article. Maxwell 11th and howard 103rd

“Among PFF’s other final Dolphins grades: Ajayi was first among running backs; Ryan Tannehill 13th among quarterbacks; Ja’Wuan James 34th and Branden Albert 65th among 81 tackles; Byron Maxwell 11th, Tony Lippett 57th, Bobby McCain 70th and Xavien Howard 103rd of 119th cornerbacks; Cam Wake 7th and Andre Branch 64th of 113 defensive ends.”

  10. D says:

Howard was getting burned in the Jets game, before the buffalo game. Petty was just throwing rainbows so he had time to recover and slap the ball away. He has played like a rookie, thats really all that needs to be said. The thing he is getting burnt on are things eh wouldnt have been exposed to much in college so it generally affects most DB’s once they get into the league. He also displayed some nice skills as well, so i think with a full offseason and a little more experience in general he will develop into a pretty nice CB for us, specifically if we stay a press cover team.

    • BoulderPhinfan says:

agreed. He has talent but is playing like a rookie right now. I still hope maxwell plays this game and I also think we keep maxwell next season. As Mike said, you can never have too many good corners.

  11. D says:

I agree with Boulder, id take Maxwell in coverage right now over Howard, and it wouldn be a hard decision for me. Howard is way more prone to being burned than Maxwell.

  12. The Flying Pig says:

I feel like I say this every day
    Every week

    All corners get beat
    That’s the position

If Howard and Lippett were playing at Revis in his prime level I would be surprised

    Thats just not the facts
    They are young growing cbs
It’s kinda dangerous to have 2 young CBs

Maxwell is our best CB right now IMO

But the reality that us having all 3 is great for us

    • The Flying Pig says:

      Bell is basically a Receiver
Steelers don’t play a lot of 3 receiver sets
We can out a CB on Bell in some situations

  13. D says:

BTW Mike i think Lou was saying he would trade Tanny for a 1st and 2nd not Maxwell.

    • Ken says:

That would be the dumbest thing ever unless you have a replacement that is as good or better already on the roster which we don’t no matter what Lou thinks

      • How would it be dumb. When, during the entire stretch of this season was a game won strictly because of the play of the qb. It never happened.
Gase’s offense depends on a qb being efficient ENOUGH to get the job done. He doesn’t need an elite qb and he’s proven it in the past and he’s proven it again this year. Gase will have this O to the point where he can plug any number of qb’s into his system and continue to win.
When you have a qb who has thrown 1 td or less in 7 of 13 starts and an offense that is worst in the league in 3 and out’s, worst in t.o.p. per offensive possession and worst in the league in # of plays per offensive possession there’s and the team has won 10 games there’s NO way anyone can argue the qb position has been getting it done this year.
And, when you look at the fact that Moore has 8 td’s in 3 games to Tannehill’s 19 in 13 games you can see for yourself that Tannehill isn’t the reason for the success of the offense but it’s Gase who is the reason for the success, by far.

  14. D says:

Vinnie, i think this playoff game might be better than it looks. Steelers are on fire, BUT their defense has been playing very poorly. Ajayi having agreat game, us playing more run to set up play action, could give us a chance. If we can keep their offense off the field, limit them to a small amout of TOP, we could win this. We should be able to score on them, im just concerned that AB kills us in the shallow middle of the field. Our pass-rush should give Ben fits if they try to load up deep passes, so if we get beat its because we cant stop AB. I think we should be able to limit Bell from having a monster game but im sure just due to his retarded running ability he will probably get close to, if not a little past the century mark.

  15. Ken says:

Sorry I just don’t get the Maxwell love. He is physical but he is not great in coverage. He lacks the recovery speed needed to be an effective coverage corner

    • D says:

He isnt as good as far as recovery as Howard is, thats true, but he also doesnt have to recover on his coverage as much. He is the better CB because he has the experience to stay with the receivers better. His physical style too doesnt allow early separation, which give our PR time to do their thing. His number of PD’s this year by itself shows he has been in the receiver pocket majority of plays. I dont really think anyone is saying Maxwell is great, but for our system and with his current level of experience, he is better at preventing big plays than Howard.

      • D says:

In fact my only real disagreement with how he has played since finding his groove in our system, has been the PI’s. He does hurt us sometimes with those, but i do think he does some of that shit early to harass the WR enough to get in his head. He seems to have more of them early in the game than late.

  16. The Flying Pig says:

    It’s not love Ken

When you look at the alternative to Maxwell it’s two young cbs one a college receiver and the 2nd a rookie who has been injured a good portion of the year

Maxwell’s experience really trumps and skills that these guys have

It’s not like Lippett and Howard have been stellar
They are young cbs who are growing into starters

The reality is any of the 3 is bound to get beat

But there have been times when a player like Sammy Watkins, Larry Fitzgerald or AJ green eats the green CB alive

What do you think happens with Antonio brown

He’s gonna beat some one on Sunday
But there is a difference between getting beat and getting exploited
And a receiver like brown will exploit a young CB but probably not a skilled vet like Maxwell

I hated the Maxwell trade and thought he was a waste
But he has really turned that around
He’s ginna miss a tackle or get beat in Sunday
But he won’t be a weak spot
He won’t be something the steelers can target the way a young CB is usually targeted

  17. The Flying Pig says:

    D
I agree the PIs are frustrating
But all of dbs get those
And I think VJ just demands physical play from corners
I think Maxwell does a better job of gaging he officials than Lippett
Not sure about Howard who appears not to be as physical so far

  18. sb7mvp says:

I’ll echo the sentiments of D and Piggy. You can’t just rid of someone just to get rid of someone. We need the depth and competition, plus his experience makes up for the other areas where he is lacking.

  19. sb7mvp says:

Also don’t forget that the refs have a habit of taking away games from us in Pittsburgh. We’ll have an uphill battle to climb for sure.

If Tannehill is not practicing today you would think he won’t be playing

  24. BoulderPhinfan says:

If we run the ball well we have a good chance of winning on sunday

    Armando Salguero ✔ @ArmandoSalguero
Mike Tomlin says “we’re not going to pretend that was a lightning strike” relative to Jay Ajayi 200-yard game vs. Steelers.

    • The Flying Pig says:

I generally think we match up well against the steelers – I’m not sure why the perception is the win was some kind of fluke

There were some fundamental things we did well

It’s not like the steelers came to the game and were “hey wait, this team hands the ball off – never seen that before.” Lol

  25. Mike,
How would that trade be dumb. If you got a 1st and 2nd from any of those teams you’ve got a real shot at shoring up the LB and offensive line positions and minimizing the effect the qb has on the team. Look at what Dallas has done this season.
You can argue that Prescott had a great year but without Dallas’ o-line being the best at what they do he’s not going to do the same thing. Their o-line is elite in run blocking and pass protection and would give a lot of qb’s the same opportunity.
I’m sorry man but ppl are placing way too much importance on Tannehill in this offense when it’s never been about him the entire year. We’ve gotten great performances from Ajayi in the run game, big plays on special teams, and big plays by the defense that have had more of an impact on our winning 10 games this season than the play from the qb position.
Our starting qb throws 1 td or less in 7 of 13 starts and ppl are going to argue that he’s irreplaceable. How dumb is that?

  26. Still don’t understand the obsession with Tannehill playing on Sunday. Like our playoff lives depend on it. It’s quite amusing.

“How would it be dumb. When, during the entire stretch of this season was a game won strictly because of the play of the qb. It never happened.”

That is so stupid Lou. I’m sorry. but I felt compelled to say something.. Tannehill led game winning/tying drives multiple times during that stretch.

I have stifled it for over a year, but your credibility on all other things football with me takes a serious dive when you prove you’re 100% unable to change your assessments based on new information. Good analysis is unbiased. You’ve yet to show your ability to be so.

It ain’t personal, and I’ll probably stifle it for another year now, but I had to say something this time.

  30. Mike E. says:

    Lou

I thought you were trading Maxwell for a 1st and a 2nd, and I didn’t think it was dumb for us, i thought it was unrealistic. If it’s Tannehill you’re trading, it’s interesting, but I’m not sure I would do it. I would trade him for an early 1st and a 2nd this year, and another 1st next year, so we can draft a QB next year, and fix up some defensive issues this year, and next year.

  31. Ken says:

    Lou:
Your dislike of Tannehill knows no boundaries. You would honestly trade away the starting QB without a suitable replacement on the team and where it could take 5 years or more to find a competent replacement and you want us to say that’s not dumb.

    • Tannehill hasn’t been as important to this offense or team and the players who surround him. We won games because of the play of the offensive line, Ajayi’s running, big plays on special teams and big plays by the defense but the play from the qb position hasn’t been a key factor in our success this year.
If we traded him away and got the four guys I mentioned I’d do that trade in a heartbeat. You fix the o-line and get Ajayi rolling EVERY game and have a better pass rush and competency at the LB position and the impact of the qb position is greatly lessened.
This team DOES NOT need Tannehill to win games. If you think so then you haven’t been paying attention.

      • Jahndoh30 says:

That’s why there were hugs from every player on the offense for him when he went down to injury. Because he’s not that important to their success.

Here is the disrespect wearing proud Colors

  34. Ken says:

If Tannehill didn’t practice then there is no way he is playing this weekend

  35. BoulderPhinfan says:

rambo had the mis-tackle on edelman TD. he makes that tackle and we get the ball back with score 20-14. That play and williams fumble changed the game on sunday.

    • Ken says:

I agree that was a killer play and that was on Rambo

    • The Flying Pig says:

      the tackle attempt wasn’t good
      but missed tackles happen

the real issue on that play was Kiko Alonzo picking the wrong spot and leaving a wide open passing lane

lets say Rambo makes the tackle and its a modest gain
      its still a 1st down
      ]then Brady converts another
and another and another and its a TD

      beilcheat exploits your weaknesses
so he is attacking so passing lanes our LBs keep missing
but the reality is the Patriots want to play that way anyway
      its what they do best

so that is why they are up 3 scores before we blink every game
its a perfect matchup for them and they exploit good matchups

after the LBs I think the pay of the safeties in the game was 2nd worst
      so I’m not defending them

but it only going to get worse at safety with another backup to a backup

      • BoulderPhinfan says:

Actually if rambo makes that play it would be 4th down and they punt. Gase said as much. He also addressed alonso on that play. He said alonso gambled because it was similar to the INT he had against the chargers. His gamble didn’t pay off this time.

      • keep in mind Rambo was unemployed before we came calling and hadn’t been with the team the entire offseason thru camp and then preseason either.
he’s been burned a few times in games and I don’t think there’s going to be a big drop off in play if we were to put Aikens in his spot. For one thing, Aikens is a cover guy and he’s got more speed than just about any of them back there.

  36. Adam Beasley ‏@AdamHBeasley 14s

Gase said he put his team in full pads today “after watching what we put out there” against the Patriots. Said something needed to change.

  37. Jahndoh30 says:

    Lou,
That was a tiny bit harsh on my part. Glad you got a laugh out of it at least. Nothin’ personal bruh. But you are a stubborn SOB and I know you do a great deal of draft research, I just hate for that work to get disregarded by people because of your unwavering desire to be proven right about Tannehill.

  38. Ken says:

      Jahn,

before you say something like that, think about who you are dealing with. Mike is “special” when it comes to technology. I would hate for the next time you two to see each other for it to be really awkward ….

  41. complete and total disrespect. they give the Raiders AND the Texans a better shot at winning the AFC than they give us. ESPN= bunch of douchebags.

    • BoulderPhinfan says:

I think it’s because we’re playing the steelers and they play each other. I bet if we were playing the raiders or the texans we’d have a higher percentage.

      • The Flying Pig says:

        like 3% or 2%
they are playing each other and I think ESPN is being disrespectful to them too

ESPN is fully on board with the Brady is mad at the NFL script and going to run the table
they can’t wait to see Brady in the SUper Bowl in the same way I can’t wait to see Brady slip on a banana peel and into a shark tank

  42. Ken says:

    Lou:
You can’t honestly say we haven’t won games because of Tannehill you lose all credibility when you say stuff like that. I get it you don’t like him but you give him no credit either for stuff he does really well. You think you can just plug and play QBs but that’s not reality nor the history of this league. Dark Prescott is the exception not the rule

    • Prescott is doing what he’s doing behind the best run blocking/pass blocking o-line in the NFL.
Me thinks ppl put WAY too much emphasis on one position when it IS a team game. Personally, I’d say an elite o-line and great defense trumps the qb position any day.
After all, it’s a team game.

      • The Cowboys don’t have a great defense. They have a top 3 RB in the league where they control the TOP and it keeps the defense off the field. You cannot throw all your chips because one team managed to get luckier than a lottery winner.

The Denver Broncos have an elite defense. How did that fare for them this year? They’ll be sitting on their asses watching us in the playoffs.

      • way to put things into perspective.

  43. Yes, Tannehill is just as unimportant to the team as Brady is. Just look what Cassell and Garropolo did in Brady’s absence. *eye roll*

There’s no way I’m trading a starting QB without an immediate replacement that is equal to or better. We all know what a shit show the draft can be with QBs. Why risk another 3-5 years of developing another QB?

The Cowboys and Dark are an anomaly, not a pattern. It’s not something that you can repeat at will. Plus, they didn’t trade Tony Romo for draft picks and just so happen to land Dak. They drafted Dak late and managed to step on a golden nugget when wading through shit. Did you not see what their QB play did last year? In case you forgot, the team was 4-12. If they were even somewhat decent last year, they would never have landed a stud like Zek to help offset the burden of having a rookie QB.

    • I disagree. The success of the Cowboys offense is tied to their offensive line and run game. Even Elliot isn’t the reason. when you’re running is 5 yds past the l.o.s. before getting touched you have an ELITE o-line and every coach that has ever coached in college or the NFL will tell you it all starts in the trenches.

      • If you think the Cowboys line is the only reason why Zek is amazing then I have nothing more to say. You aren’t very knowledgeable. Let me know what the other RBs did this year behind that line. I’ll give you a clue: It wasn’t too good.

Zek has something like 600-700 yards after contact.

      • Oh and the Cowboys had an elite line last year (Arguably even better because of no injuries). Again 4-12.

But please keeping trying to argue that Zek/Dak aren’t one of key reasons why they are winning now. Clearly their QB/RB from 2015 was competent enough to win 13 games….oh wait….they weren’t.

      • Ken says:

You can’t downplay the impact Prescott he is a significant factor in their success and I am not taking anything away from what you said about that OL it is an awesome line but it was also the same line that was there last year along with one of the leading rusher in the league and they won 4 games

      • ooh, that hurts Vinnie. thanks

      • Zeke went to the right team. he’s playing behind the same type of offensive line he played behind in college; the type that opens gaping holes you can drive a truck thru.
It’s interesting you point out Zeke’s yards after contact. Again, way to put things into perspective. Look at where the contact first took place as compared to where it first took place for Ajayi

its not like the playbook is new to him Ken

    • Ken says:

Yes but he will be rusty. His timing with receivers will be off. Look at how Ben played when he came back after being out for a couple of weeks. He was rusty for several games until he got back into a routine and improved his health

  45. The Flying Pig says:

That ESPN Chart is so scientific
You get the sense that they really thought it through, put their biases aside and used precise mathematical analysis to come to their conclusions

it also explains why the numbers total 101%
    SCIENCE!
    good job ESPN
    I take you seriously now

    • I’m surprised they don’t have the Pats at 86% and give scraps to everyone else.

    • I can understand us being underdogs to a good extent because of the number of key players we are missing, Jones, Isa, two starting LB’s and Pouncey but if we do happen to win this game vs Pitt the lack of respect needs to stop.
For a team to have the injuries we had this year and the mix of players we’ve had playing in games all season there should be a lot more respect for what it has achieved than it has received. That being said, we ARE behind the 8 ball going into Pittsburgh. Our biggest positive is our coaching staff and the ability they have shown all year to prepare the team for games.

      • The Flying Pig says:

I think even the most optimistic Dolfans realize we are playing with house money at this point

but you generally don’t hear this kind of talk about playoff teams

        What if we beat Pittsburgh
and have to play at New England, that will be fun to watch

    • They rounded up. The Dolphins are technically a .9% chance when you look at the actual numbers.

      • The Flying Pig says:

        I get it
        I know what they did

        its even less than 1%

but I assure you its a reflection of biases and not a real analysis

the Texans and Raiders play each other and are a combined 7%
its a little crazy to give 1 of 4 teams remaining, that has to win the same number of games as the other 3 games less than 10%

I would love to see how they came up with these numbers

I’m not a statistician but I think they are bordering on mathematical impossibilities on this one

Don’t get me started, you will never hear the end of my rants on the lack of quality sport journalism around

  46. The Flying Pig says:

  47. Ken says:

    I owe Vinnie a beer

  48. Oh, I’m sorry Lou I found the real numbers. Zek managed a mere 1,000 yards after contact (2.9 y/c after being hit. Yep, the only reason why he is any good is because of his O-Line.

We’re also forgetting he’s a solid receiver and an ELITE blocker himself.

Take off the blinders man. You cannot base everything on what one team did one time. They are far from the norm. If Zek and Dak are so irreplaceable, why then did they go 4-12 last year? Why then did the year before they went 12-4 with DeMarco Murray and Romo? Your Cowboy argument is leaking quickly.

Strong defense? Sure, let’s take a look at how well the Ravens, Cardinals, Rams, Vikings, Bengals and Panthers did this year with their defenses. How did their QBs play? Horrible. Where are they? Not in the playoffs.

Houston got into the playoffs by default because that division is atrocious so I wouldn’t even look at them.

Your hatred for Tannehill isn’t warranted at all. He’s a very good QB who is mobile. With Gase teaching him, I could see him being Aaron Rodgers like. I’m not saying super elite, but the ability to extend plays, gain yards on the ground and have very good years, especially with our WR crew. He has all the physical tools you want in a QB, why would you throw that away in hopes of finding another one in the draft in X amount of years?

    • In case you need math done, Zek has 934 yards after contact, leaving 697 yards before contact. That equates to 2.9 y/c after contact and 2.16 y/c before contact.

Roughly 60% of his rushing yards is after contact. His yards after carry numbers are more than every RB’s total besides 12 RBs. That’s absolutely insane.

    • Here we go with the Aaron Rodgers stuff again. Dude, you take off the blinders and she what’s really there. What kind of play did we get from the qb position this year? Average.
This guy will never sniff 40 td’s in a season. He hasn’t even gotten to 30 once yet.
In the 5 seasons he’s played there’s no evidence to suggest he’ll ever be more than just an average qb and THIS season is even more proof of that than the previous 4. He had a much better run blocking o-line and a much better run game and look at what he’s accomplished.

    • steveccnv says:

Vinnie, you’re wasting your time, he’ll never back off his stance, even if we go 15-1 next year and RT throws 50 tds.

      • way to be realistic about the td’s. If he threw the ball 27x a game and put up 50 td’s it would be considered the greatest feat by a qb in nfl history. you’ll never find a guy throw that little and put up those types of numbers and, going forward, those attempt numbers aren’t going to change.

Edmonton Eskimos linebacker Deon Lacey has signed with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins

I guess they consider the definition of contact to be a fingertip.

    ——————-

Ah, nice attempt to disregard stats to prove you’re dead wrong. GG, mate.

  52. finfanrob says:

Just so I have this right. Lou thinks T hill has nothing to do with the wins (he did however blame him for the losses) and THill is not a major part of this team and the team wins without him. however, on the trade market this useless qb can garner a #1 and 2 draft pick. genius

  53. If you look at the sack stats I posted earlier the reason for those stats isn’t a healthy vs unhealthy o-line. The reason is because Moore makes his reads faster and gets the ball out faster. Tannehill still struggled with his progressions this year and, yes, the Ravens who didn’t make the playoffs said it but they DID shut him down.
    1 td and 3 int’s vs Ravens.

  54. BoulderPhinfan says:

I really thought (hoped) Maxwell was gonna play this week. With him, tanny and rambo out, I now see why the steelers are 10 point favorites. This could get ugly.

  55. Ken says:

Troy Aikman never surpassed 23 TD passes in a seasons yet he was one of the best QBs in the league and won 3 SBs so I don’t get what Lou’s point is about TD passes

  56. Jahndoh30 says:

I got flagged on the play but it wasn’t a personal foul. I think it was an illegal shift.

I’m going with “12 men in the huddle”.

  57. BoulderPhinfan says:

I doubt he starts but he could be backup on Sunday

    Adam Beasley ✔ @AdamHBeasley
Gase suggests that Tannehill’s long layoff isn’t a concern from a rust standpoint. Tomorrow really is the key for RT.

  58. BoulderPhinfan says:

I think this whole Tannehill discussion is moot. He’s our QB and there is no way he’s traded anytime soon, no matter what any of thinks. This FO loves tanny. They went out and got him the right coach last year. If they wanted to trade him they would have done it already.

I’m sure their plan is to build around him and go get a championship.

  59. Lacey was signed to a futures contract. he will not join the team until the beginning of the league year in ’17

  60. On a more serious and more relevant note, however, let’s go out there and rip the Raper and new ass. I hope Wake and Suh make a sandwich out of him like they did to Petty.

  61. Ken says:

    Lou:
You may do a lot of draft research but I will never accept your opinion on any QB again. Talk about blinders. I am done discussing this with you

    • Had we signed any other HC but Adam Gase we never have this discussion. RT’s contract is void at the end of the season and the discussion is over and THAT’s a fact.

    • If the team signs any other HC they never get to 10 wins this season and can just about guarantee MIA doesn’t want to spend the money on Tannehill and decides to go in different direction.
Tannehill never has the year you guys are talking about right now and more than likely most who are in his corner on here and elsewhere have a much different opinion of him.
The coaching is what has made all the difference in the world. If he were to go to a team like CHI, ARI or SF he probably ends up somewhere as a backup.

    • it’s like the NFL version of “It’s A Wonderful Life”.

‘I know it’s not going to happen but I always like to ruffle feathers, rock the boat, etc.’

    lou,

you and pretty much every one on here likes too. you are no different other then how you are trying is overly simplistic and lame. i mean come on, you pick on the qb and others respond. who would have thunk it

    • You have to agree that Tannehill was lucky we signed Gase and not one of the other HC candidates. he wouldn’t have nearly the year he had and neither do the Phins. Team probably goes 7-9 and RT is done w/the team. No way they even consider paying him that kind of money and chances are good many of his diehard supporters say it’s time to move on.
So, what I’m saying is it’s Gase that’s made the big impact.

  67. Jay Ajayi finished the season 2nd in the league in yards (901) after contact & 1st in forced missed tackles with 58.

  68. Mike E. says:

    Lou

Ryan Tannehill is lucky that Miami has Adam Gase. Tom Brady is lucky the Patriots have Bill Belichick. Aaron Rodgers is lucky the Packers have Mike McCarthy. Dak Prescott is lucky he has the best OL in football, and Zeke Elliot. What’s your point exactly? Why does Tannehill having Gase in his corner diminish what Tannehill accomplished? It shouldn’t. When any player is a given a tool to succeed, and they do, the player deserves the credit for succeeding. You can’t say he doesn’t deserve credit because we finally got something right as far as coaches are concerned. In fact, if anything, Tannehill should be excused for failing from all the shitty coaching he had in the past, because he obviously can succeed in the right system with the right coach.

No one is demonizing four men ages 30 (Cruz), 24 (Beckham) and 23 (Shepard and Lewis) for unwinding. It is simply required to consider the ramifications, in their position, of their actions, and how it might affect a cause greater than them — especially since this didn’t happen before a game in Week 3.”

The writer needs to look up the word demonizing bc he among many other people are

      This is a dumb story

  70. Mike E. says:

Lou – With your radically skewed view of him, I wouldn’t expect you to see it any other way. Man, it must kill you that he’s going to be our QB for a long time.

    • As long as we win I could care less either way. I think ppl’s perceptions of him this year vs the previous four are being skewed by the fact that we were winning games instead of losing them and put a lot more emphasis on the way he was playing than there should have been.
If you go back and look at the games objectively you’ll see that there’s not a lot to support anyone’s claim that we NEED him to win because it’s just not true.

  71. finfanrob says:

i do feel so sorry for Lou’s wife.

woman comes home and cooks a dinner for the ages. the best he has ever eaten. a steak that makes men cry it is so good and he looks at her and says, well you didnt do anything well, the cow is the one who ate the good grass to make it taste good.

Not only did Tanny succeed but he excelled at a whole nother level, all while going on his 3rd or 4th system in 4 years.

Gase is Coach and I can bet the RT is his QB for his 1st bunch of seasons

  76. 81Howie says:

Well maybe he hasnt brought us back from a 30 point defecit but its not for lack of quality. Its more like we score so they score, we score and then they run down the clock to where it is hopeless…Tell you what though. he has kept us in and pilled out the close ones

There was some improvement but not a great deal. I think a lot of ppl look at a few big plays and think he did much better than he actually did.

LMAO @ the silly hypocrisy. A few big plays is what creates a few more wins, which get’s you into the post season…SMH!

  78. steveccnv says:

I’d like to see a “discussion” between Lou and Omar regarding Tannehill. It would be the most illogical ever.

  79. getterdone says:

Suh & Wake need to have huge games like they are being paid so much to have!!!
Both are Pro Bowl vets and it starts with them muddying the pocket for Ben & slowing Bell down as well.
If they do this, it will go a long way to helping the defense be the opportunistic D that it has been off & on over the last 11 weeks.

  80. A little snippet from a Browns site talking about them taking Garrett and switching to a 4-3 D:

Some of the game’s best defensive minds have passed through the Factory of Sadness. Romeo Crennell and Eric Mangini couldn’t crack the 3-4 quagmire because they could never find the linebackers needed to make the scheme a success

    Switching to a 3-4 isn’t easy

  81. Randy says:

The biggest reason for our 10 wins, to me, was this: 54-105. That’s the combined records of the teams we beat this year. Our offense was average to below average. Our 3rd down efficiency was terrible. We were a highly penalized team(coaching). Our defense was average to below average. We gave up big plays weekly and made very few ourselves. We were extremely inconsistent on both sides of the ball. The biggest factor in our success was that we beat one team all year with a winning record…Pittsburgh. You wonder why nobody gives us a shot in the playoffs? It’s because this team barely eked out wins against most of the worst teams in the league…and didn’t look good doing it. Just look at the comments on this blog on game days. It goes from: “This team sucks.” “What kind of play calling was that?” “Gase is getting out coached.” “Get rid of everyone and start over” to by the end of the game “Hey, we won!” “A win is a win!” “Wow, I don’t know how we did it, but we won!” Lol
    ***
I’m just as happy as anyone that we got into the playoffs, but I am not happy about the way this team performed all season long. I like what Gase is doing so far, but he has a long way to go before I’m convinced he’s a great HC. I’m a fan so far…but he hasn’t proven much yet…and that’s OK. We’ve seen this before…a bump in production from a first year HC that melts away when the competition gets tougher and the blush is off the rose. This team had moments but were, overall, extremely inconsistent, and we played some very bad teams.
    ***
I’m not trying to tell anyone not to be excited with a playoff appearance. We should all enjoy it while we can! I just don’t think it’s representative of this team having made some significant step forward. I didn’t see that this year. I saw an average team barely win against a bunch of bad teams. I know…a win is a win. But, I believe the level of competition has to be taken into account when evaluating what those wins represent for the future of the team.
    ***
And now I’ll go away for awhile again because I know that 99% of the people here don’t wanna hear this and think I’m a downer! Enjoy the playoffs! For what it’s worth, I think we can win an ugly, low scoring game in Pittsburgh. I’m hoping for a sloppy, wet, muddy game. I’ll be sitting on the edge of my easy chair on Sunday cheering them on and believing we can win until proven otherwise just like every week. Go Dolphins!
