Mmmmm!
So what’s happening with our Miami Dolphins?
RFA MLB Kiko Alonso has stated he doesn’t want to be moved to outside LB. He did say he will do whatever is best for the team, but he feels like he’s best suited to be the teams MLB, and would prefer to stay there.
Rumors are flying around that 1 year wonder WR Kenny Stills is going to get paid, and get paid BIG TIME! Supposedly, he will be seeing upwards of $12M annually. After year 1 with Miami, you all know I wanted to cut him. His 2nd year (contract year) started out rocky with a kneel and a drop, but he won me over as he finished the year with a team leading 9 TD’s, which is way better than any of his other 3 years in the league. It would be nice to keep him, but if the money gets to that point, I’ll wish him the best, unless he’s playing against us.
I keep hearing Dont’a Hightower associated with MIA interest, and frankly, I don’t get it. Guy can’t tackle, he doesn’t run especially well either. As Lou and I have both pointed out, the guy just doesn’t make tackles on his own, as evidenced by the fact that out of his 404 total tackles in 5 seasons, only 251 are solo. No thanks!
Stephen Ross took 16 Miami Dolphins players to NYC for a week long business seminar. I think that’s awesome, and a very cool thing for our team’s owner to do. GOOD ON STEPHEN ROSS! BTW, Tannehill was there (not limping) and so was Cam Wake. Excellent experience for these young men as football is a relatively short lived career.
-The NFL combine workouts begin in 2 days, on Friday March 3rd. I’m really looking forward to it. As much as people say, and by people I mean fans, front office people, coaches, and basically anyone associated with the sport says don’t put too much into combine numbers, well, they do, so it’s a bunch of baloney I say! No, you’re not going to change a LB’s pre combine grade from a 5.8 to 6.8 because he ran a 4.4 instead of a 4.55, but if the whole package impresses, meaning he runs a 4.4, runs 4.1 20 yard shuttle, puts up 25 reps, does a 35” vertical and 12’ broad jump, well maybe he increases half a point.
Certain things just matter. If you know an OL needs to hit the weight room before he performs at the combine, that’s fine, but if the OG you had your eye on puts up 15 reps, that just ain’t gonna cut it. If GM’s see CB’s have trouble flipping their hips in the backpedal drills, that’s a downer too. There are many things you can find out from the combine, and while many poo-poo it, I for one do not. OK, I admit, it completely intrigues me, it really does. I can’t wait to devour all the numbers, and I will have positional comparisons for you guys starting next week. I’ll do one position a week, so I’ll have some good stuff for you people week after week.
Enjoy the combine, and GO DOLPHINS!

Watching porn again?
A fun thing to do, if you can remember to do it, is to look at players grades on NFL.com before the combine, and then check them out again after the combine workouts, and watch how they change. Some don’t change at all, some go up, and some go down, but every once in a while for a standout performer, they can up .3 to .5, which is a lot.
You blogs are me hungry
I like bacon for breakfast.
Blasphemy
Putting me down in the “doesn’t want Hightower club” as well
I want speed on defense
Nice summary starting piece Mike E, especially since some of our folks don’t follow either the board or the Dolphins news day-by-day this time of year. Hope don’t offend either you or Bookman and “double dip” in to it.
You can double dip the info, not the dip
Still won’t let that go…lol

🙂
I really didn’t like seeing Kiko say he doesn’t want to move outside, especially since he was telling the press and not the team. Think on an elite D he would be a WLB. At the same time there was a bright side. Figure a lot of other teams might want him as that too, and they at least won’t be putting out an offer we have to match.

Mike, I think the combine is definitely valued or they wouldn’t have it. I think what people always question about it is work out warrior vs. game tape. But when the two match up that’s when you have a really good prospect.
Exactly. It may help a guy who didn’t get noticed for his game tape too, but it’s not going to elevate him to much, but it can definitely get him noticed.

This creates another potential void. Not good.

I’d bet the conversation went like this . . .
Grier: Kenny, we’d love to have you back on the team
Stills: Thanks Chris, I’d love to be back
And there’s your “good dialogue” LOL

Grier: Hey Kenny we are going to give you an ass load of money to stay!
Stills: Great lets let it linger on for a while to piss those fuckers over on the Finsmob Blogs off!
LOL! Good one

Not good, but I wouldn’t mind bringing in one of the guys I mentioned here
It’s possible. The best case scenario would be to replace him from within, but not sure we can do that.
Lucas or Aikens? I don’t know if either of those guys are ready to be the man though.
Yeah Aikens didn’t even really play on defense last year, but he was great on STs. Lucas didn’t play much either, likely wasn’t ready.
The below from Chris Long — and this one sounds by him rather than an agent — on why he will not be with the Pats next year. Who knows the actual reason……but sounds like at least one guy who did not buy into the system, or at least his role in it even after the ring.
————–
Thank you Pats Nation. As a player you’ve given so much support to, I owe you an explanation as to why I’ll be moving on in FA… even if it isn’t a big deal. This year and this opportunity gave me a ton. I made lifelong friends in a great locker room and became a champion. I’m so thankful that Coach B (the GOAT) took a chance on me and allowed me the opportunity to play a small part in this wonderful year. This has zero to do with money, etc. It’s the right move in my heart because I want to get back to being the player I was before. I’m thankful for my role this year, but as a competitor, I’m itching to do what I do best. It was important to say thank you personally. You may not remember me much, but I’ll always remember y’all!!

University of Miami TE David Njoku was measured with an 82 1/2-inch wingspan at the NFL combine. Slightly less than a 747 airliner.
Aikens has truly been a disappointment, IMO. This is where the team should’ve been comfortable enough w/ him as a player to say “Walt can handle it.” and for the 2nd year in a row the team will have to look for help elsewhere.
Yeah he looked promising early on and now doesn’t seem to be in the picture.
What do you think of T.J. McDonald?
Aikens was always a potential high-reward-risk develop guy though. Actually liked the pick for that reason. No doubt we need another safety, but then was hoping we would get one in the draft anyhow. Might be in FA now instead.
he’s been good on Special teams.
Walt Aikens played like Clay Aikens
nice job mike. I tend to agree on hightower but belicheat really likes him, so there must be something there and the sack fumble in sb changed the game.

BTW – Don’t used canned chicken. I didn’t even know it existed! Yuck!
Didn’t know there was such a thing as canned chicken.
You can buy canned chicken just like Tuna.
It’s not labeled Soylent Green is it ?
Tim
Maybe that’s why I don’t eat tuna fish. lol
I have never seen canned chicken. I’m thinking if you like to cook, you just can’t use canned chicken. That’s how I feel
It’s good for quick chicken salad like tuna. I used to eat it sometimes years ago but haven’t had it for quite some time. It wasn’t bad.
But I prefer cooking the chicken as well. Homemade chicken soup makes the best chicken salad.
OK, I can definitely see that.
LOL Doggy! It just might be
I was thinking about this morning, when you re-sign your own players in FA, that doesn’t count against your comp picks, right
I don’t believe so, it’s a gain/loss/production formula.
According to Omar and the SS, it seems like Lou just might be right about us not spending a lot in FA, even on the O-line.
It was in the Jordan Phillips article I posted earlier. That’s why I added this:
Gotta love “Obviously we don’t want to be big spenders,” Gase added. “We’re moving away from that thing.”
We’re going to have to sign a couple of players, maybe not the highest priced ones though. I don’t care, as long as it works.
I think we’ll target more guys who know how to do their job who aren’t liabilities.
LOL @ phindog on Soylent Green
If the Eagles get Cook, i would think they would be out of the race for Stills. Same players.
TE Jared Cook?
Oh, Brandin Cooks. Yep, basically same player
We already knew Gase was uber-smart and loyal, if tough. He’s brought in a number of guys he worked with before. Now he is saying how much he hates free agency and they are already talking about re-signing Rehad and how they don’t want to be big spenders. Still say Gase is the good versoin of the evil genius when it comes to scheme, but now thinking when it comes to team player structure he is more Rooney and Steelers.
I think we sign Stills for 4-years $48M, $24M guaranteed ($12 bonus, $8M year year two, $4M year three). $910K first year salary. Everything else is just smoke on paper.
What do we pay Landry when it’s his turn?
He’s going to get $14M a year.
Sounds like Lou will get at least part of his wish. Gase not being hip with big FA signing may mean a couple mid-tier OG/OC rather than Zeitler.
Phelon – You think Landry is so close in value to Stills? I don’t see it that way. I think Stills at $12M is kinda crazy.
It’s not a real $12M. More like $8M, which is what I think he is worth.
phelon — caught that you are getting ready to choose seats for your seasons. You been to the stadium since they put the shade things up? Just asking cause might be able to help with what have seen on the sun/shade factor.
I have not been since the roof went up. I’ve heard that the North and West sides are in the shade pretty much all day. I’ll take any and all advice. Looking at the lower level, most likely only going to be able to get corners.
If you were going in the 200s would not be a big deal and 300s get the roof angle shade protect, but if you are going lower level then home side is the way to go. OD got booted to the visitors’ side after they put the bigger seats and video game section in. Great seats last year, but they are still in the sun for the one o’clock games till like 3Q, least earlier in the season……gets better later on (and heck it is not as hot then anyhow).
But then he is btwn the 30s, haven’t checked out how it works in the corners as much. Farther back you are the less sun time regardless, wherever it is. And if you are going corner….higher up might be the way to go as far as view anyhow. Problem is that when you get your choices….I am not the only one who has noticed all just put out.
The deal is that I go down in three weeks to pick my seats. Basically they prioritize you by when you put down your deposit. I put the deposit down on the lower level, but I can look at all of them including club.
View/price/comfort choice you will see, but will say at least check out the lower 300s midfield if available (even if on visitors side that might include more sun). Was just talking about what you might not see when you are there, which is the shade factor (and no doubt home side is better on that).
We may still sign a couple of good players to decent sized contracts in FA. What Gase may mean is we’re not going to sign 4-5 players like that and build the team that way. I think he wants to build on the culture of the team and not keep retooling.
Yeah, I like the way it is going. That’s why I decided to get season tickets.
Get it to a point where you have your system in place and then when guys come and go it’s never drastic needs but a natural replacement. Grier has mentioned the Pats model and his Dad who is on board as a consultant worked for them for years.
This phase two of retooling the team under the new regime may not be a super bowl team, but by next year maybe it will be.
I think when you get where you have a lot of players coming back year 2 and year 3, and you have some success with them, then you’re in position to add a couple of pieces, and not necessarily the most expensive ones, to get you where you need to be to make it to the top
Like this year. We have a lot of core players who were drafted, some FAs and a few from trades. Keep building on that model.
I just saw an article that Gase wants to expand Drake’s role, and that’s great. Keep improving, and with Ajayi, it can give us a nice 1-2 punch, along with Damien Williams. We really need to shore up the O-line, get competent LB’s, preferably one of them a playmaker, and then I think we have to add a safety, now that Isa may be out. Just get each unit to the point where none of them are a liability, and then keep adding talent to make them better.

Walt Aikens played like Clay Aikens
———————————————–
No you wish he played like Clay Aikens….. ya know, practically glued to his man’s ass in coverage……….
Seems like those immaturity issues w/ Aikens & McCain might lead to them getting replaced.
Aikens probably get another year on the team imo, he is a rockstar on the ST unit, but thats only going to take him so far.
Mike, I don’t view all the issues on defense were at LB. The DL had their issues as well. When you look at what happened with the entire defense last year it was some lack of performance, injuries and young guys learning on the job in all phases. At the end of the year they were depleted and banged up. Not 3-4 guys, but like 8-10. We have to find a way to keep that from happening.
It better be, because we’re not really changing much with Suh, Phillips, Wake and if we re-sign Branch.
Unless we draft a starter and Wake plays mostly passing downs, everything will be the same on the DL
So you are giving him 48mil guaranteed contract, 24mil guaranteed all in bonuses? None of it in guaranteed salary?
He said $24M guaranteed, $12M bonus.
looked like he said 12 mil bonus year, 8 year 2 4 year 3….just wasnt sure what he was doing with it there.
I could see Landry getting 14mil from us. 13-14 seems about right. 12 for Stills does not see right, not even close. To some other team maybe, but not us. That beyond most teams WR 1 money and he simply isnt our primary WR.
I could see the team doing between 13-15 for Landry no doubt. I’m starting to believe that they may pay Stills as a high level #2 after Adam’s PC today and his comments on DVP.
Thats still not much more than 9-10, which again, to me is an overpay for him unless a lot more will change with how they use him in the offense.
Wherever the market lands on actual dollar numbers, still guessing Stills is paid by someone else and whatever that number is Landry gets like $5 mil more per year (even if might have to adjust if we re-sign and his cheap 2017 season already on the books is included) .
Gase wants an offense that controls the game – TOP and points. He believes that’s how you help your defense and he’s right.
Ajayi – ground and pound
Landry – sets a tone and makes crucial plays
Parker – tons of talent as a big WR
Thomas – playmaking TE and red zone threat
That’s going to be the core. So Stills would jack it up even more. Then Drake, Williams, Carroo, Grant, Gray and hopefully Sims, maybe someone new. 🙂
We’re not lacking skill, we have to make sure we can block it.
Oh yeah then there’s Tannehill who proved what he can be in this offense during that mid and late season run. He was the QB for 7 out of 8 wins after the 1-4 start. But Matt Moore’s 2-1 record was the key. LOL
Go Phins!!!!
10 tops for Landry, and I wouldn’t pay that much. You don’t pay a slot WR top money.
Have to disagree there Steve. If he is number 1 WR in your offense, it doesnt matter what you call him, he’s the most important and will get paid like it.
I don’t really comprehend that. I think you have to do that on a case by case basis. He’s been the focal point of the offense since he’s been here. You can’t knock him down just because he plays in the slot.
History says you guys are wrong, and his 4 TDs…
I may be alone here in my feelings but 7-8is my top offer for Stills. I really dont see an irreplaceable player. Im not paying 10+mil, for a guy i feel we could get practically the same production out of from a 3rd round WR selection most drafts. Id roll with Caroo next year and make WR a priority 2018, especially if we have truly upgraded TE or would through the draft. Maybe pick up a guy this year with potential as well at WR, just to fill the player void and let Caroo and he compete for replacing stills.
Do you think Stills is Randall Cobb?…i dont. What about Jordy Nelson? those guys are pretty significantly below 12mil a year. Actually both are right at 10mil per.
I value him for us at like $6.5 mil. I’d pay him $8 mil and live if we paid him $9 mil. Anything over that and will just be hoping they saw something in Davie I did not.
Stills isn’t half of Jordy Nelson in his prime, and he’s not even Randall Cobb either. He really isn’t that far off from Ted Ginn IMO
He’s more than GInn, least when he was here. But he is a one-trick pony for us mostly. But then seems the league values him more than you and I do. And he is young, which might be part of it.
He may get more than that elsewhere, but he’ll be a bust. Gase made Stills, and he won’t see that TD production somewhere else. His TDS come with no one around him, when they cover him he sucks.
Sorta don’t have to worry about it, cause pretty sure some team will pay more than us no matter what his final numbers are. We have Landry and Paker with Carroo waiting.
D
I’d rather pay Zeitler or someone like him, and draft a guy like Switzer, and run with him and Carroo
Me too, its been shown that we are pretty solid at WR with or without Stills, but we arent ok with or without a solid OL, so if you wanna drop a load….drop it on a big man….
Wait that didnt sound right…
You got me at Switzer….he’s a smaller, whiter Landry w/ speed😁
Steve
The game is changing. Slot receivers weren’t on the field nearly the whole game years go. Landry is almost always on the field, and he’s the biggest cog in the offense.

He’s not more than Ginn was 2 years ago when Carolina was in the SB. He was almost exactly like Stills.
44 receptions, 739 yards and 10 TD’s
Preaching to the quire mostly with me. Like I said value him for us at $6.5 mil…..which would mean if I was GM he would not be with us next season.
or the choir.
Thanks Lou. And on that one and all the other ones in the future, my apologies. My spelling is real bad.
Landry is not just a slot receiver. He’s not the speed guy, but he plays the game violent and fast. We all know what he is. He’s like Hines Ward. He lines up all over the place. He’s not Davone Bess, he’s so much more.
^
Hines Ward is spot on…..including heart, passion and lead by example.
^
Hines Ward +
imo
if he keeps playing the way he has been for a decade he will be a HOFer
Hopefully Hines with a plus as a player for sure. But Landry has that Xtra factor just like Ward did…….Zach too.
I don’t think we should spend much time on Landry leaving us in 2018. The team knows he’s a core player. We could also franchise him in 2018 until we figure something out. Move on. LOL
LOL Lou – I think you can rip into us now, although just because they said it doesn’t mean they do it 🙂
I think the Suh signing was a huge learning experience for them. They found out one player isn’t going to turn the team around. Suh didn’t even turn the defense around. You’ve got to have talent across the board.
They’re going to be very selective about who they go after in free agency and spend the money wisely rather than blow a good portion of it on one player and still need to do a ton of work. The model is correct and if they follow their plan things will work out much better.
What we’ve talked about before about signing guys like Malcolm Smith is going to be what we’re going to see instead of going after the big name guy and it’s not just about spending the money and not getting the return on the investment like they did with Wallace.
If you listen to Gase, part of the problem is you don’t know what you’re getting. For instance, look at how Wallace acted when he was with the team. Likewise, a guy like Hightower spent 5 yrs in the Past system and can have his own ideas of how he wants to do things and then that doesn’t work out too well.
So, I’d say that what they’re saying is exactly how they’re going to go about it.
FYI
the top bench press at the combine today was Issac Asiata, the OG from Utah with 35 reps
other notables
Forrest Lamp was close with 34
Pocic 26 reps
Harlow 26 reps
Feeney 26 reps
Orlosky 24
Fuller 23
Elfain 22
Toth 21
Asiata has short arms. Those guys usually put up more reps
Lamp’s are even shorter
Yeah, I hate short armed Mofo’s. It ain’t fair.
There’s Lou’s guy Lamp, right up at the top.
Lamp will be the first guard off the board.
If I’m looking at OL, if they put up about 25 or more, they’re fine. You don’t want your interior OL putting up less, because they’re gonna get pushed around.
Strength is not the biggest factor, it’s about a mentality to play the game. Not everyone is a weight lifter. Not all weight lifters can play the game.
I knew someone was going to jump in on that one, I expected it to be Randy
He’s very frank. That’s what I like about him.

Goforth, young man:
Finally got our internet and landlines working after several hours with nothing! I barely missed it, actually.

Mrs. OD LOST her cell phone a few days ago. Finally, a replacement arrived tonight by Fed-Ex.
Called the company to help her get the phone working. After two hours on the phone with two service techs, they concluded the new phone was defective!! So she has a land line that doesn’t work and a new cell phone that doesn’t work. Better pray that one of our dogs DOESN’T shit on the rug!!
————
IN CASE you wondered, Mrs. OD talked to the company on my ancient cell phone that has virtually NO whistles and bells at all! However, I chose NOT to remind her of this at this particular point in history!! I’ve also refrained from laughing out loud as I fear that would not be good for my
social life, if you catch my drift.
AH the many joys of married life.
Mike,
there’s no doubt in my mind we will be active in free agency and will spend quite a bit of money but just not a lot on any one particular player. They understand they need to increase the overall talent of the team and they understand you can’t do that if you sign one big $$ guy, limiting yourself to what you can do thru the remainder of free agency.
I’m not saying they sign a lot of the guys we talked about, most of the guys we talked about or any of the guys we talked about but they’re going to sign players they WANT and players who fit into the system and can help the team win.

POINT for draftniks to ponder:
Back in 2011, The TAMPA BAY TIMES reports that baseball’s Rays entered the draft with TEN of the TOP 60 draft picks. As of today, 5 of those 10 are no longer with the organization and, as far as I can tell, they are no longer in professional baseball. Of the remaining 5 picks, 4 are languishing in the lower and middle minor leagues with very little hope of making it to the bigs. Of all the 10 picks, only Blake Snell is projected to make some impact in the major leagues. But he hasn’t done it YET, 6 years after the 2011 draft.
This strategy of trading star players for picks was approved by miserly owner Stuart Sternberg who cries Tampa is a “small market with little cash” despite the fact that Sternberg is one of the richest owners in MLB. “Stewie” believes a few years of losing seasons will convince local politicians to pony-up and build him a new stadium. Well, guess what, Stewie? We ain’t doing it!!
The only chance this team has of obtaining significant public help is for Sternberg to sell the franchise to someone who wants to really compete with the Bosox and Yankees and is willing to spend the money necessary to do it (estimated $200 million in salaries to players per year at a minimum, NOT the current $50-$75 million per year). MLB is unwise enough to permit the big boys to spend over $300 million per year while allowing teams like the Rays TO SPEND 10 PER CENT OF THAT NUMBER PER YEAR!!
THE LOCALS RESPONSE?? – – Fuck the Rays, and their owner!!

Interesting he has CB and not LB, and now if Isa is out, S too.
Should be LB, S
I don’t think he actually watches football.
well, I pissed off Bushrod:

@ProfessorLou1 @CurtisWKnisley @Houtz @WeStillSuhck yea we will see about that
LOL….C’mon Lou….don’t be pissin’ off our players!!!
he’s not one of our players. he’s a free agent.
I wouldn’t have wanted him to respond any other way. You want a guy who wants to start and don’t want dumb enough go all FU about it and have it hit the press.
have to agree with that. he wants to prove he can still play and, if he can, good for him. I just look at it from the point of view that he’s not going to be in their long-term plans on the offensive line.
He very well might be back on the team. Know we disagree on his worth, but Gase is the one who brought him here….and his opinion counts a lot.
yeah, but he was signed to a 1 yr deal for a reason. If he’s back it’s probably only on a 1 yr rental deal again and it’s not a guarantee he stays around. I’d say he played okay for us last season but it wasn’t anything great. If he’s a backup, that’s one thing but if he’s a starter it’s basically saying your team isn’t moving forward.
We can’t go into the season with Bushrod as a starter on the offensive line again. We need to start moving towards our end goal of having the offensive line fixed and not still be looking for help.
A likely scenario is that we go into the season with Bushrod and either a rook or a less than big name FA in a compete for one of the G spots.
Brandon Marshall is getting released…..the Jets are purging. And they should.
Last night I heard Mike T. on NFL radio with Alex Marvez, and I really like the perspective Marvez had about the Dolphins team and organization. He feels like the team is back to being a legitimate organization with a solid presence and an up and coming team. He spoke about Stephen Ross growing, and learning, and of course the business seminar he ran for 20 players, but also praised all the hirings Mike made, like Grier, Garfinkle, and of course Gase. He asked Mike about the hierarchy, with him being Exec VP, and Grier as GM and Gase as HC and what each is responsible for. Mike said we work as a group, and we bounce things off one another, but Adam Gase has full say on team personnel, who stays, and who goes. It felt good to hear those positive viewpoints about our team, I have to admit.
“Gase has full say on team personnel”
Big difference btwn that and final say, but been thinking final is what Gase has since Ross said “finally found my guy.”
I paraphrased, he may well have said final say Jon.
Wasn’t trying to be OCD about it, but the fact Tbaum was even talking like that says he knows it even not in Gase’s contract. Exactly how I would like it actually, especially since Gase has job security and is so smart.

I don’t think anyone here wants Bushrod as a starter, but he’s a nice depth player to have. I’d like to have him back.

Surprised that Davis was that much bigger than Foster, but then again rumors were Foster came in this season much lighter, 225lbs, vs previous seasons.
Peppers isn’t playing LB at that size. I read something yesterday that some scouts like him better as an offensive player and return man over defense.
Can you take him top 20 like that though? I wouldn’t. Maybe not until the 3rd
No I wouldn’t.
@JoshNorris: Vanderbilt LB Zach Cunningham
6’3/234 lbs
34 3/8″ arms
9 1/4″ hands
Those are really long arms. The better to wrap around with!
I think Peppers will be given a shot as a safety in a scheme like Deone Bucannon plays in
So you’re saying we should trade up for him?
Nope, didn’t say that. I think some team will try that, because where else could he have a 1st RD value? Either that, or he doesn’t get taken until the 2nd
I was joking being that you replied to me saying: “Can you take him top 20 like that though?”
WOW! OT Aviante Collins ran a 4.81 40, 6″6″ 295. He also put up 34 reps.
Can he play?
No idea, but he can run and lift weights, and maybe do both simultaneously. lol
Your boy is having a good combine so far Lou!
He will definitely be the first guard off the board. Question is, would we move down a bit to take him or would we be willing to take him at #22. Has to be part of the conversation considering the need on offensive line.
I know you can’t always believe what you hear but Grier was pretty clear that he believes you take the BPA in the first two rounds.
I don’t know if I’ve heard him say best player available but I’ve heard him say more than once you take the best player for your team. So, their board could be unique compared to someone else’s.
Tim
I just said that because all the mock drafts have Peppers going top 20, and some, top 10. You can’t just try and experiment on offense that early IMO, so that’s why I asked.
I hear ya. I don’t see him as a 1st rd talent with no defined position. Some scouts don’t think he’s very good in open space, he’s more of a box safety and blitzer so he’d have to be the right fit for a team.
Lou, this is where I read this. Wyo posted this yesterday.

Grier said “in the first two rounds, you always have to take the best player.”
yeah, I read that but I’m wondering if his comment was edited by those who think they know better because last year it was always about taking the best player for the team.
That’s why we moved up to get Howard and Carroo. If it’s about taking the BPA you sit and wait to see who falls to you and chose among those who are available when you’re picking.
You can trade up for what you feel is the BPA.
A lot of dumb things have been said on this board over the years, but they’ve got nothing on this post😄
Mike,
Regarding your post about our FO. That’s the most encouraging thing coming from last season to me. It seems like we are finally getting our act together and that will translate to consistently better product on the field. I still have a few reservations about our FO, but it’s definitely headed in the right direction. Watching closely at how they handle this offseason.
Yes drg, it’s very promising. I want to see consistency, and then we’ll know we’re there. Last season was a great start, but to go backwards won’t be a good thing.
I’m not a draft guy, but there are a couple of Utah guys that could really help our team. Asiata is a guy that can play all 5 positions on the line, but will be a rock at either guard position for a long time. Very strong and great feet. Amazing character, work ethic, leadership. I wouldn’t draft him too early, but he would be a great fit.
The other guy I’m hoping we end up with is Marcus Williams at safety. Freak athlete who could be an Earl Thomas type. Sure tackler and has amazing range playing center field in cover one. If he is there in the second round we need to jump on him.
Hunter Dimick might be worth a shot as an UFA too.
I’ve seen Asiata mocked to us in the mid to later RD’s, like 4 through 6
Bringing in the correct personnel is great and all, but I’m more curious as to watching Gase improve as a HC from year 1 to 2 and whether the DC can step up into his new role.
I hope he improves too. He’s going to need to in order to beat Belichick, Harbaugh, and the better NFL coaches.
Need more talent too.
Yes, and that’s up to Mr.T, Grier and Gase to get
We already covered needing talent.
Well that’s a big part of improving. 🙂
No one said it wasn’t. Try to keep up lol
A few guys I was interested in how they looked. Toth has looked a little stiff…thought he’d look more fluid. Moton looks like a better athlete than I thought he would. Pocic…meh. I still don’t see much to fall in love with. There just aren’t a lot of really good prospects this year. Kinda pissed that Moton has looked so good because that’ll probably jump him up a round.
Also Buffalo chicken dip is where it’s at. One bad about living in the South is not being able to find decent wings. This dip kind of scratches that itch.
Make your own! It couldn’t be easier
I meant buffalo wings, but heck, make the dip too
You can’t get good wings in the south? Or is it just fried chicken down there?
SB7, I was replying to Mike about competing with Belichick, Harbaugh, and the better NFL coaches. To me it’s a personnel issue, not that Gase is overmatched against those guys. We got outplayed physically by all 3 teams.
PIT in the playoffs being the other.
RB Dalvin Cook ran a 4.50
Fournette 4.51
At 6’3 220….
sorry 6’1, 240
D
Who’s 6’3″ 220?
Fournette was measured 6’1″ 235.
TBH, it’s more impressive to me that the OT Aviante Collins, 6’6″ 295 ran a 4.81. I think that’s insane.
I’ve heard some people say Cook is going to be a real good weapon who can do everything. Maybe like a Le’Veon Bell.

That was great! Tells you a lot about how the FO is structured, what their beliefs are and what the plan is. I really like Grier. Great story about Reshad Jones. LOL
You can’t get good wings in the south. They’re either too small or nothing but a sugary sauce. I want simple buffalo style. Hot sauce +butter + meaty chicken wing. Of course I can make my own but most of the time I don’t have the time. Lol
I think I told you guys about this a while ago, but I had a friend that went to school in Utica, not far from Buffalo, this is between 1981-1985. I visited him there I’d say it was either his Sophomore or Junior year, and I stayed at his fraternity house. The school was right near the Genesee Cream Ale brewery, so it was the big beer in town. We go to a local bar, and he orders buffalo wings (I never even heard of them), and we start eating them, and it was like heroin, I was addicted.
After I got home, I desperately tried to find somewhere where they served buffalo wings, and there was a restaurant that I’m sure Bat knows well called Short Ribs in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, and they served (what they called buffalo wings), but they were too sweet, and more like BBQ. I had to wait quite a few years before they started getting popular enough that you could find them in Brooklyn.
Do you not have any Buffalo Wild Wings, Fridays, Applebees, Chili’s or any place like that by you?
Screw you….I’ve got Alligers House of Wings👍
This was Mike. LOL
