Last week I brought you a bevy of Linebacker prospects the Dolphins may or may not have a shot at, and in weeks past, I gave you the O-line, and the defensive ends. This week I’m going to take a look at the Cornerbacks, another definite area of need. Coach Gase has made it clear he wants more CB’s, so let’s take a look at some prospects!
Marlon Humphrey CB 6’0” 197 Alabama

Marlon Humphrey is coming to the NFL after only just finishing his Sophomore year, which means he has only 2 years of college experience, and that he’s very young, 20 years old. Humphrey was a starter both years however, and has played well enough to make the decision to leave for the NFL. In Humphrey’s Sophomore (last) year, he finished with 36 tackles (26 solo), 3 TFL’s, 5 passes defensed, 2 INT’s (1 for a TD), and 1 FF. In 2 seasons, Humphrey has a total of 5 INT’s. Humphrey performed pretty well at the combine, not earth shattering, running a solid 4.41 40, and a very good 6.75 cone. He has very loose hips, and excellent trait for a CB which allows him to flip and turn from his backpedal easily. As expected, after only 2 seasons, Humphrey does need some things cleaned up, and is not necessarily a finished product. NFL.com has Humphrey rated 2nd highest at 6.1
****************************************************
Gareon Conley CB 6’0” 195 Ohio State

Conley will be coming to the NFL after finishing his Junior year at Ohio St. A 2 year starter, in his Junior year, Conley finished the season with 26 tackles (21 solo), 3 TFL’s, 8 passes defensed, and 4 INT’s. Conley is an excellent cover man, allowing just a 37% completion rate. He’s a press corner, but has the instincts to play zone coverage. Conley ran a decent 4.44 and an excellent 6.68 cone. Paired with Marshon Lattimore at Ohio St., one would think he was picked on often, but Conley held up his end of the bargain. NFL.com compares Conley to Aqib Talib and is rated at 6.01
****************************************************
Kevin King CB 6’3” 200 Washington

A lot to like about this kid, and shoot, he’s 6’3”, and runs like a deer. One plus with King is he’s played outside, but has also played in the slot. Not a physical player, more of a physical presence. A 3 YR starter at Washington, King in his Senior year totaled 44 tackles (26 solo), 3.5 TFL’s, 13 passes defensed, and 2 INT’s. While he’s played inside, I just can’t see him against guys like Julian Edelman or David Amendola, but some teams now feature bigger receivers or TE’s in the slot, and that’s where King would shine. King has also played some safety, so he has experience there as well. I always liked Sean Smith when he was here, despite the fact many hated him. I felt he always did a pretty good job in coverage, and no he wasn’t the most physical player, but King isn’t either. King ran a 4.43 40, an outstanding 39.5” vertical, a rubberband like 6.56 cone, and what really impresses me, is that 600 lb/ft of torque that jets him to a 3.89 20 yard shuttle. Now that’s acceleration! NFL.com has King rated at 5.81
****************************************************
Tre’Davious White CB 5’11” 192 LSU

White was a 4YR starter at LSU. In his final year at LSU, White totaled 35 tackles (19 solo), 4 TFL’s, 14 passes defensed, 1 FR, and 2 INT’s. Like King, White has played outside, and has also played inside in the slot. Good closing ability, more quick than fast. Ran a 4.47 40, and was otherwise unexceptional. Not a physical player or willing tackler, he’s much better in coverage. NFL.com has White rated at 6.0
****************************************************
Adoree’ Jackson CB 5’10” 186 USC

Great athlete who is a two way player, played CB and WR, and is also a great returner as well. Former track star as well. Due to the fact that he didn’t only play CB, he’s still learning the CB position, but did make huge strides at CB his Junior year, which was his last year as he is entering the NFL now. Jackson finished with 55 tackles, 11 passes defensed, 1 FF, 1 FR and 5 INT’s, along with 2 TD returns, and he finished his 3 YR career with an impressive 8 TD’s on returns. The one issue with Jackson is, at least as far as the Dolphins are concerned, is that we usually look for bigger CB’s, at least 6’ tall, but Jackson can certainly handle the slot, and maybe outside as well. One major plus is Jackson has excellent ball tracking skills. Jackson is rated at 5.89 by NFL.com
****************************************************
Chidobe Awuzie CB 6’0” 202 Colorado

4 YR starter at Colorado, Awuzie’s strength is his physical play and tackling. His Junior year, Awuzie racked up 85 tackles (70 solo), and his Senior year, Awuzie totaled 65 tackles (53 solo), along with 6 TFL’s, 11 passes defensed, 4 sacks, 1 FR, 2 FF’s and 1 INT. Good blitzer with 8 sacks over his last 2 seasons. Only 3 INT’s however in his 4 years at Colorado. Has good size, but very short arms (30 5/8”). He ran a 4.43 40 with an explosive 132” broad jump. Awuzie has played both on the outside and in the slot. NFL.com has Awuzie rated at 5.82.
Supposedly, Miami has shown a fair amount of interest in Awuzie.
****************************************************
Fabian Moreau CB 6’0” 206 UCLA

A former RB who looks like a RB. Chiseled physique that looks the physical part. 5 YR’s (redshirt) at UCLA and 4 YR starter. In his Senior year, Moreau accumulated 31 tackles (24 solo), 8 passes defensed, 1 FF, and 2 INT’s. Good press corner, played mostly in a cover 3 scheme, and some man coverage. As big and strong as Moreau, he doesn’t play mean. Great athlete, and performed well at the combine running a 4.35 40, a 38” vertical, 136” broad jump and an 11.45 60 YD shuttle, all in the top performers spot. One thing of note, Moreau suffered a torn pectoral injury during the bench press at his pro day, so he may be out a portion of training camp. Rated at 5.76 on NFL.com. Wouldn’t you like to have Moreau be a star CB for MIA so we can call his side of the field “The Island of Fabian Moreau”? Just sayin’ . . .
****************************************************
Corn Elder CB 5’10” 183 Miami

2 YR starter at the U, Elder, now a CB was originally a RB. Elder despite his size, is a very physical player, and although he doesn’t have the speed or the vertical abilities of Brent Grimes, he’s a player that plays much bigger than his size would indicate. Tenacious player who is a very solid tackler. Elder in his Senior season finished up with 76 tackles (55 solo), 3 sacks, 12 passes defensed, 1 FR, 1 FF, and 1 INT. Elder improved his 40 from 4.55 to 4.45 at his pro day in MIA. Again, not the size we look for to play on the outside, he would probably be better served in the slot. More quick than fast, I can see him matching up well with NE’s pests, Edelman and Amendola. Miami has had Elder in for visits. NFL.com has Elder rated at 5.46.
****************************************************
Cordrea Tankersley CB 6’1” 199 Clemson

3 Year starter at Clemson. Has the prototype size we’re looking for. “Tootie”, as nicknamed by his brother, has good ball skills as evidenced by his 9 INT’s in has last 2 full seasons. Cordrea finished his Senior season with 52 tackles (39 solo), 6 TFL’s, 11 passes defensed, and 4 INT’s. Tankersley ran a solid 4.4 40 at the combine. Good cover corner who competes and takes the proper tackling stance. When covering TE Bucky Hodges, he held him to 1 catch, and had 2 INT’s in that game. NFL.com has Tankersley rated at 5.76
****************************************************
I’ve certainly covered a lot of ground today, and mostly because I think we very likely will be double dipping in the CB pool. Yes, we have Maxwell, Howard, Lippett and Maxwell, and yes, Lippett has definitely made strides, but Maxwell hasn’t really shown a lot yet, and Maxwell, though he did play better down the stretch, had a very poor start. Gase and Co. have made it clear they want to upgrade at CB, so I think bringing in 2 CB’s would not be surprising at all.
A few of the guys I put up are boundary CB’s, and a few others are more suited for the slot due to them being undersized for what we look for in a boundary corner. Of course, there are many other prospects out there that may be in play, but I’d have to think we grab at least one of the guys I looked at today.
In today’s NFL, you have to have good depth at CB, and I’m pretty sure after this draft, we’ll have just that. Also, don’t count out a draft day trade for an NFL vet CB, which is also a possibility.
GO DOLPHINS! ZERO IN!

my early prediction based on schedule is 12-4
Nice, way to stick your snout out. I like it. 12-4 is my annual prediction
Stej sucking so much could mitigate the higher price
That;s true
16-0
(piggy throws bucket of water on your face)
Lol
We HAVE to beat Denver. Gase won’t tolerate losing to his protege.

10 games our opponent is coming off of a road game, 5 games against west coast teams or teams playing previous game on west coast, Road Thursday the first thing I looked at on the schedule argh, play only one team coming off of a bye, one team off of sat, but no team off of Thurs.
Good schedule, except Thursday and London.
Sonny
I was looking at a schedule the Miami Herald put out, and it said the Carolina game was Sunday night. I can’t find it now, they must have fixed it.
The teams web site has it as Monday
Yeah, the team website is right. I think the Herald made a mistake, and later fixed it.
I guess it’s expected that with 24 HR radio, they have to repeat certain segments a few times, but I’m driving to work this morning listening to the Morning Kick Off with Ross Tucker on NFL radio, and they played EXACTLY the same audio interviewing Greg Cosell that they played yesterday morning at the same time. C’mon guys, use your heads, you can’t play the same regurgitated interview to exactly the same audience you had the day before. Shame on you! lol
Howard Stern would always play what they called “best of” and other shows started doing it too when they were on vacation. I started calling it “used Howard”. I hate that.
Most people listen to talk radio in the car, and most people drive to work the same time every day, so why play exactly the same segment, which is a long one 2 days in a row? Poor planning.
Change the station. My commute is 20 minutes, when I listen to Mike and Mike they have 7 minutes of continuous commercials, so I change the station. They must think what they have to say next is worth waiting for.
Thanks to our great Pig for pouncing the schedule and getting the poll out so quickly. And he’s absolutely right that Titans (Oct 8) and Yets (Oct 22) are the only viable Fest dates.
Sooner we set the date the better our seats will be since that will get us, especially since those are the 2nd and 3rd games at Rock of the season. Nice thing this year is they made it even easier to reserve seats and get down to your actual number when it comes time to pay.
Hopefully a bunch of folks will be able to do either date in case some have conflicts. Can start with I can do either and — even more importantly — so can Chef Warren.
^ get us “up the seat pick list”…they sorta do it like the draft with #1 pick first to set their number.
Either game would be fun.. Just remember jets fans are Dicks !!!
They certainly can be, although I have to say, I’ve gone into the enemies den a few times, and never had a problem. Last time I went with my nephew and Brian in NY, and the Jets fans were fighting with themselves, and they were winning!
LOL !!
LOL — not sure what it is….they make Pats fan look like cool guys. You and the canine clan planning to come?
LOL @ Great Pig – That just sounds funny to me
We wait and we wait and the Great Pig never shows up, it happens year after year😉
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Good ‘ol Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin
This looks like a pretty tough schedule. I think we may be a better team but with a worse record than last year. We’ll see.
No reason for that. If we play well, wins will happen, and things will take care of themselves.
Agree. Last year’s was supposed to be brutal.
Of course. But that doesn’t mean it will. The quality of teams we play this year are higher than last year. And we don’t have any hard rock warm weather games. Tampa doesn’t count cause they’re also in florida. We play the bills and the pats in miami late in season while we play @ the bills and pats in cold weather. The thursday night against baltimore is a L.
I could easily see us finishing 8-8 with a better team.
Stanger
Doggy and fam are NOT missing a Fest. Silly!
Dana is all ready to go, we were talking about it the other day. I love it!
Stanger.. We will be there. !!
Cool — and based on past history that means Toba and his great other half as well. 🙂
We’re good for either date, whichever the majority decide on is cool with us
Same with me
Really cool — the regulars already coming together as flexible (assuming Pig too since he put the dates out). Based on past history…..a next step is a full report on Ken’s litigation calendar.
There is nothing funny about “Great Pig”!
I agree….was meant just for what the words mean. Thanks again.
Funny, like haha or funny like a cliwn…
Almost 🙂
I’m kinda with either date is fine for me too
But for voting purposes just pick your preference
Don’t forget to vote if you are going!
It’s amazingly easy to narrow down dates when there are so few options…lol
You can’t do opening day and we don’t have another home game until that Titans game, then the next one is the jests
Then a bunch of primer ine and hold it conflicted home games
So we really only had 2 options for the fest
Boulder
I think we might start of with a really good record
@atl stands out as a hard one
We have to beat TN at home unlike last year
But it’s not a tough start IMO
There is a grinder when you get into the mid prime time games against tough teams
When you get out at the end the amount of really cold weather games scares me (@KC stands out) but we good enough to get double digit wins
Its the 6th hardest schedule in the NFL
Which isn’t crazy for the 12th best team last year
It’s the NFL
You really have to be a last place team to get a schedule that appears easy
It’s a fair schedule for us
And the BYE and the traveling portion isn’t bad
Thur – big rest before Sunday night – then an extra day rest before MNF
Then the BYE
That’s really ideal rest time between those games
So that is advantageous for us in that hard stretch
And the late BYE is huge for December success
you’re right it starts easier than last year. We just play better teams this year. We play all 4 superbowl teams from the last 2 years this year. It’ll be tougher to get 10 wins this year but you never know.
So says the Great Pig . . .
Chad Reuters from NFL.com Miami Dolphins 7 RD Draft
Miami Dolphins
Round 1 (22) Forrest Lamp, G, Western Kentucky
Round 2 (54) Chris Wormley, DE, Michigan
Round 3 (97) Shaquill Griffin, CB, UCF
Round 5 (166) Jonnu Smith, TE, Florida International
Round 5 (178) Keion Adams, OLB, Western Michigan
Round 5 (184) Ryan Switzer, WR, North Carolina
Round 7 (223) Dylan Cole, LB, Missouri State
Round 7 (240) Avery Gennesy, T, Texas A&M
Seems no matter what the schedule is certain people react the same. The woe is us reactions crack me up.
I don’t think the NFL tries to make the schedule fair. I know every team asks for certain things, such as playing 2 WC teams back to back weeks on road, so they try to accommodate that. But otherwise, not so much.
Most teams are pretty much the same and even they can lose any given week. I’m not sure the schedule really matters, especially when teams change so drastically from year to year.
Teams like Dallas and Detroit that have home Thursday games every year should have to play 2 teams coming off of a bye week, instead of the typical 1. Cheats getting home Thurs games every year while we play a road one isnt fair. I believe the cheats are on the road this year, but these are the things that should happen automatically, that dont
Seems you need to look a little closer. Every year even our biggest homers can pick a game we’re going to lose, based on scheduling
Pessimists will always be right
Looks like the voting is pretty close so far for votes for the Jets three votes for the Titans. I cast my vote for the Jets
But I will make it to either game I mean somebody has to remind you lazy fuckers to stand up and make some noise
Understand that messing with Jets fans would be a dream come true…..but you cool with both dates?
Q answered before I asked……owe you a beer.
Stranger I will be there at the fest to collect that beer. Hopefully it’s one of Jahn does🤡
STANGER. JAHNDOE’s
Freaking auto correct
You’d be better off with Jahn’s beer than my bud light…..speaking of someone that would love to see there (with his beer or not).

There are a bunch of people who should make it their business to attend a Fest. You all know who you are! You’re on notice!
Well I wont be there and you guys cant make me go 😉
I’ll ask ORob where you live, and we’ll come and get ya! And ORob!

I voted and I may bring several. My brother most likely.
LOL@ Rock’s motivation for the Fest
The game against the chargers will be the chargers first home game in LA and its a small stadium. Hopefully there will be a lot of phins fans and we can win that one on the road.
oh and rams are playing the same weekend against the redskins a few miles away.
No one is going to see the Chargers in LA
The only thing I don’t like about that game is its a west cost game
But we don’t have a lot of tough traveling a whole this year
When I said repeatedly that in part we won 10 games because we played the easiest schedule in the league last year, I was told the schedule doesn’t matter….and that it had nothing to do with our record…we were just that good. So, how is it that it matters this year when we are supposed to have a tougher schedule? Lol
***
This team got to 10 wins last year…and it took a great 3 game run by our backup QB to do it…because we barely beat most of the worst teams in the league. This team was average or below in almost everything they did. Luckily we played teams like SF and the Rams most weeks. This year should give us a more realistic look at just how good…or not…this team is. I hope they take another step in the right direction, but I still see a pretty flawed team overall. We struggle at some of the most crucial things. 3rd downs, scoring, stopping the run, penalties. Lots and lots of room for improvement.
***
Now get the hell off my lawn! Lol
We are a flawed team but so are most of the teams in the league so we just have to be slightly better than those teams on gameday. We did that last year and hopefully we can do it again.
At this Fest, we can play the old Monty Python game of “Phind the Phish”. Looking forward to meeting the Phelonius MonkFish
Er, uh MonkPhish
https://twitter.com/MDCheer/status/855452825563910144
It might look better off the . . . . everything
It would look better on the floor at the foot of the bed !!
LOL – True that
I agree with SB, for whatever that’s worth
Monkfish is the poor man’s lobster.
12-4 here we Oinking come!!!
sb7
Yes, every team is flawed. It’s just easier to win against teams with more flaws. That’s what we did last year. This year…against what will probably be a tougher schedule and teams with fewer flaws….winning will be more difficult because we will be the more flawed team. Last year, that was usually the other team.

Our first Fest virgin.
Phelon — my best advice is to put up those seats next to Ross, make some money on stubhub……and sit with the crew. Best times at a game ever had was in a box Fest tickets in the nosebleeds (and we don’t even do endzone anymore). Just for example. Picture Ken to your right, Pig to your left, Brian NY plus the Dog behind you and Mike E and his lovely in front of you. And we don’t haze…..so sitting right behind Rock only comes up if you ask for it. 🙂
I will give that some thought.

Drunken or hung over pigs are exempt from having to stand up and make some fucking noise
Randy,
Quit being a cranky goat fucker😂 I wasn’t around for last seasons convos, but I agree w/ no excuses you man up & handle your business on the field no matter who you’re going against. Last year the team was 10-6 & a playoff team & it doesn’t matter hat schedule strength was or interpreted as. This yer is no different, playout the schedule and the record is what it is at the end of the year.
Patriots, Falcons are really the only teams we should have trouble with. Every other team we should be right there with
Didn’t you hear, we’re sweeping the cheats😁
If Phelon sits behind me he will just have to stand the fuck up! That is all.
Ha….I already have my seats.
Check out the suggestion above. But even if not, we get together the night before and obviously for the tailgate (where you will get to meet Chef Warren’s food).
I will certainly be there the night before.
LOL — fair warning to him or perhaps not…..maybe Ken or Brian can context what that actually means (thinking your first Fest). Least we all won’t be as blown out with the new shade factor though. 🙂
Besides…if you stand in front on me, I’ll just pick your pockets and leave you broke and vagrant.
We all have to Stand the fuck up when Rock is around
Of course, imaynot be a popular attendee. I am likely to show up with a bunch of law enforcement types.
Or I may not be a popular attendee because I’m me.
I have no problem at all with law enforcement types, unless I’m driving 85 on the GSP and I see flashing red and blue lights.
If you were only driving 85 infront of my brother and his lads, the lights you wohld see would be to tell you to get the fuck out of the way.
LMAO — At least three lawyers will be there. We got that aspect covered already. It is most family friendly.
Randy,
It’ll be the same this year too, it’s just a matter of doing it.
Phelon
That would be preferable to the alternative, that’s for sure. I see lights, I feel like I killed EVERYONE!

YOU!!!! LOL
😜 I think last year was the first time ever I had to tell somebody To sit the fuck down and shut up
Well except for fans from the other teams
I got up at 4:30 this morning to get to the airport to fly to Washington DC it took four hours to get ready drive to the airport and fly here the meeting lasted two hours now I am waiting until 8 o’clock this evening when I return flight
Which airport? If it is Reagan terminal B or C (most flights) or even if not (just a walk)….get your ass to Sam & Harry’s before security. Good food and good folks. Used to live in that place.
A guy just sat down next to me and he has so much hair growing out of his ears it looks like he is trying to smuggle tarantulas
LMAO!
I am not joking it looks like he stuck Brillo pads in his ears. I was even physically possible to grow this much hair in your ear ? He has more hair growing out of this two ears than I have on my entire head!
Not normally into mock predictions in general, but this one is from PBP’s Joe Schad…..who seems to have it going on.
—————————–
“My Miami Dolphins prediction (as of today) is that they will select Derek Barnett, Haason Reddick, Taco Charlton, Jordan Willis or Forrest Lamp. Others to consider for Miami would include Charles Harris, Takkarist McKinley, Gareon Conley or Kevin King.
The only offensive player I would consider is Lamp, but I don’t think he’ll be available at 22.”
I really have no idea who will be there at 22. It seems like there will be a lot of offensive players off the board, which should help push some D to us, but I really have no idea which guys are going where. There should be a decent choice of CB’s, just not sure which DE’s or LB’s make it to 22. I really like Jordan Wilis, but I’m not sure if he’s a 1st RD pick. Our FO might think he is, and that works for me
At 22 we are taking Jarrard Davis. Unless Foster is there.
Cunningham > Davis
IMO
And that’s from a Cunning Ham !!
Haason “Chop” Reddick > than both of them
You are a pig with wings….what do you know?
I know all OINK
all of it!
I have
Foster > Cunningham > Redick > Riley > Davis > McMillan > Walker Jr > Beckwith
As my LB ratings
this excludes all “edge” types who might be able to play OLB (even in a 4-3)
theses guys are just pure LB
Rock, maybe the hair in the guy’s ears are nests for little birdies.
Maybe he proves me wrong, but even while he says we will go 9-7……makes me wonder about Walker. Not the prediction, but how he sees it going down that way.
http://www.espn.com/blog/miami-dolphins/post/_/id/25171/2017-miami-dolphins-game-by-game-prediction
He’s just putting a safe prediction out there, then going back in and filling in the games to match it, then writing some meaningless BS, about each one.
True — was thinking it was a combo of what his real season prediction is and “lets put out some crazy game calls out there to brag about in case there is an upset.”

I would like nothing less than Kraft to have to pay out money, but this isn’t right, a lawyer just looking for a big payday. The guy is an FN prick.
Wow 4 division games against the Pats and Bills last 6 games of the season with the Broncos and at Chiefs mixed in. You could say the season will be decided right there as long as we’re in good shape heading in. Gotta go at least 4-2 in your division games.

Teams picking between 33-45 will need to make sure they are comfortable with R. Foster, cause he will be there.

I VERY highly respect the opinion of Michael Lombardi. I used to follow him on Twitter before he became GM of the Browns in 2013… then he deleted his account, for obvious reasons. It’s good to know he’s back on Twitter; he’s a gentleman and highly knowledgeable about a great many things in life… not to mention the game of football.
Lombardi likely knows something here regarding Foster, prompting him to make the above tweet.
If Lombardi thinks Foster goes in the first half of the 2nd Round, my guess is that Foster has a good and clean history, but teams aren’t willing to risk 1st Round money on a guy who is going to be tested ‘X’-times more often than a player who isn’t in the NFL substance program (based on the diluted urine test at the Combine).
For instance… if he smokes a joint (like very many NFL players do), the chances of him getting caught are VERY MUCH higher than the next guy who isn’t even in the program.
So IF I’m reading the tea leaves correctly, Foster IS being vetted as a decent citizen and not as some kind of problem child or thug. Otherwise, Lombardi would have tweeted something VERY differently… like ‘5th Round or later’, or ‘UDFA’.
Now the question becomes… does some team take the chance on Foster in the 1st Round, a mere 15 or so picks earlier than 2nd Round money? I’d say there’s a STRONG possibility… and it could be US.
Gase’s relationship with Saban may be a factor as well about Foster’s character.
Thanks MikeE
I havent seen O Rob in like 8 years, since Fasano dropped all those passes against the Falcons.I dont really need him to get down there. The wifes parents live down there and she goes several times a year but supporting two women aint easy and everything must fall into place just right. My Buddy still lives down there and I stay with him for the weekend when we go to the games and damn it’s been a long time now. Probably that Titatans game when I couldnt find you guys. i’ll keep track of the game you guys pick and see how things work out.
GO MARLINS 😉
Howie — on the top ten most wanted for the Fest list…….you are one of the ones with the biggest picture posted in the post office. And if works out, no one I would rather put one down with. And I ain’t alone in that thought.
Wow didn’t even realize the draft was Thursday night. It all of a sudden is a week away. LOL
Tim, don’t forget the draft is on Thursday 😉
What?
I won’t vote for a fest game because I have no idea if I’ll be able to make it. I got a promotion at work recently and with the change in my job will be a change in the times I won’t be able to be away from work. With my current job it’s just the first few work days of each month. The new one is going to be much different. From what I’m being told, it’s the first two weeks of each month. But it’s a long weekend so maybe I can manage it. Like I said, I have no idea. I’ll have a better idea as it gets closer.
Well congrats on the promotion. And hopefully spring finds you well, and a Fest can be attended.
herd — obviously nothing would be better that having you there. And you have time, only thing that needs to be reserve how many seats and they made it much easier this year to cut down to the exact # when the pay deadline comes out. And that is like two month before the game. So absolutely no problem tentatively reserving for you if you want.

Did I sense my name mentioned??
I’d take Rueben Foster at 22, if he’s there. His play is worth the risk. Surely Gase will talk to Saban, but I don’t need him to, to take him.
Oink and agreed
The great pig did come after all 😉
Rockphinsays:He has more hair growing out of this two ears than I have on my entire head!
Not saying a lot there buddy!!
Rob Rang reported another reason Foster is dropping is his medical school including an issue with concussions
Issues, not school!
He’s not a totally clean no-brainer prospect. He’s under-sized at 6-0 229 at the combine, concussions, has a history of getting banged up during a season, diluted drug tests, his combine confrontation etc. All of that doesn’t make him a bad person or not a good football player because he is, but he’s not what they call clean.
He could fall to the 2nd and become a 7 time pro bowler 2-3 time all-pro. Happens all the time. Could also be a Jelani Jenkins type. Follow your board and hope for the best.
Exactly….but all of what you mentioned could be why teams like other LBs better. Also as you mentioned above if Miami would pass on him if he’s there at 22 then Saban probably gave Gase a reason to pass.
If we pass on Foster if he’s there at #22 we will know there was a wink wink be cautious message from Saban. I would not be surprised if we drafted another Tide guy though.
Keep your eye on OLB/edge Tim Williams. He has wreck a game type ability. May need a year or two to really get to that top level but could definitely make an impact in a rotation as a rookie. He could be Wake 2.0 down the road.
In regards to Williams I think Saban won’t advocate for him t all.
Although to Williams credit, being a known multiple drug test failure, he managed to pass his piss test t his job interview unlike his teammate.
Stranger: FYI wife and I did attend one fest without the Canine Crew…. We just happened to bring a different follically challenged individual to keep their seats warm
lol — he was a good dude…..why not bring him along again?
dbolt, again a Saban offering and our due diligence on the prospect. But Williams has a big upside.
Wake was an UDFA 6-3 235 LB who couldn’t make an NFL team and had to reinvent himself as an edge guy through the CFL. Williams was 6-3 244 at the combine and has big play ability. Just saying. 😉

Now get the hell off my lawn! Lol

Kong walks dejectedly to the shelf and puts the shiny new toy back.
Kong
Don’t let grumpy ruin your day. We played some pretty good games against good teams and lost (Seahawks) , and lost badly to good teams (Ravens), but also beat a good team or two(Steelers, Cardinals). We can play with any team when we’re right, and we can lose to any team when we’re not. Randy knows this. We have holes just like many others do. If we can shore up the LB spot (We already have), be more consistent on the O-line, I think we can duplicate the 10 wins, or exceed them.
Toba – Glad to hear we’ll be seeing you guys again at the next Fest
Not sure he actually said that, but guess we can count it…..was sorta of assuming anyhow. For some the Fest is an addiction. And that includes you and me, and apparently your better half now.
How eager are the Dolphins to find a young safety to groom to play longterm alongside Reshad Jones?
Of the maximum 30 permitted draft prospects that the NFL allows teams to invite to their headquarters, the Dolphins have used at least six – and perhaps more – on safeties.

Still think we don’t need a safety?
Mike E,
Don’t forget that we had Desmond King in for a visit and workout. He’s a projected Safety/nickel CB… and my man crush BALL HAWK!!!
He’s a tad undersized for our prototypical DB size, but it was revealed that Tannenbaum and Grier were upset that King returned to Iowa for his senior year last season.
Keep an eye on him come Draft day…
King is a real nice player, but me personally, I want a big safety. I’m so intrigued by Obi. I also understand there’s nearly zero chance he will be there in RD 2, and even if he were, I don’t think we go that way. I like the other King too, Kevin (CB)
What do you like about Obi Mike? He’s got the potential with his size, but he’s a big project.
In my ideal world… if we could somehow come away with Takk McKinley, Dion Dawkins, Blair Brown, Desmond King, and Eddie Vanderdoes, we will have KILLED the ’17 Draft.
The only way I can see that happening? We’d have to trade down a few spots from R1P22 and get a 2nd Rounder in return, then either trade back up into the late 3rd Round with our three 5th Rounders or trade down a few spots once again from R2P22 to get another 3rd Rounder.
Even if ya don’t like the guys I mentioned above, plug your own favorite guys in and see what we could do with these picks (one late 1st, two late 2nds, and two late 3rds). I’m completely certain we’ll be wheeling and dealing our picks again this Thursday.
In other words, I don’t believe that Tannenbaum and Grier ‘settle’ for the BPA. They move in order to get THEIR guys. I agree with this strategy, so long as one feels that strongly about a player(s).
I’m sure Mr. T and Co will move around a bit, I can’t imagine a draft w/o that. Mr. Tradey Pants can’t help himself. lol
Takk’s concussions don’t worry you?
Steve
I love his size and athleticism, and he IS a 4 YR starter. I’ve been looking for a big safety like him for a while, not sure if you remember I liked George Iloka too, who plays for the Bengals, and has turned into a fine safety. I want a big guy like him that can potentially cover a TE. We’ve had Obi in for a visit or two, so it’s not just me interested. He has 8 INT’s in 4 years, not too shabby
Not sure he’s a “project” either, he may not necessarily be ready to start day one, but I wouldn’t classify him as a project
In regards to Obi he is an inhuman athlete. In regards to FS I still think he has a long way to go. From the games I’ve been able to watch he seems a step slow in his reactions, but erases it w/ his physical gifts. In the NFL when he mis-reads a route combo he won’t be able to count on a QB throwing really late or underthrowing it which allowed him to make many of his plays on the ball in college. With that said if a good secondary coach can mold him he could become known as the Eraser. You get the mental ability paired w/ the physical and It could be scary.
I worry that Obi ends up the second coming of Scott Sheilds
Or he might be George Iloka, or even better.
He lacks coverage skills, which I’m starting to see the same thing with Peppers.
How much that affects both players at safety I’m not sure. Another thing with Peppers is his hitting without wrapping up.
What makes KC a 12 win team is Kelce, I wouldn’t mind duplicating that with Njoku.
I see Taco as a 3-4 DE exclusively, he’s too slow to play in a 4-3.
You’ll end up with a Fede
Pig is absolutely right that Titans (Oct 8) and Yets (Oct 22) are the only viable Fest dates. Can already confirm is Fest is ON and thanks to all those already in and can make both dates.
ALREADY IN (for either game)
Pig
The Dog (+2)
Mike E (+1)
Son (+1…..and # will grow)
Rock
Chef Warren (+1)
Stanger
Phelonius (plus something)
And based on what he said…..seems like Toba and his cool wife as well. Correct me if am wrong you Canuck :)…..and also let us know if you are good for either game.
👀
Late visit with Foster
That’s a good thing.
And even the Pats with what their record was come in at #12. Teams change year by year…..but no doubt we ended up with two tough outside divisions based on last year.
Atl doesn’t seem to have 2 good years in a row, TB about the same as us, with both on the rise, Carolina seems to be a mess in the secondary/RB, and Nola is trending down, but that AFC West looks like the best division in football although I don’t think any of them are unbeatable. If I had my pick of divisions to play I couldn’t really pick any one over the other. Maybe the AFC South, and the NFC North, but we thought the NFC West was the best division last year, so…
Mike, Grier recently said it’s a rare year for safeties meaning there are a lot of good ones. The fact that we met with 6 of them points to the strength in the draft, not that we are in desperate need of one. I think we’ll draft where the talent is, not be position specific.
Agree, and safety is in play for our draft, much to my dismay.
BPA is not always universal. It’s BPA on our board, not every team’s board.
It’s never universal.
Well with some prospects it is. There are times when you know who the top 5 are and basically every team agrees.
Mike, I went and watched Obi again to refresh my memory of why I’m not thrilled with him. I’d take him with our 3rd, but not before that. He doesn’t use his size to his advantage, the main reason people love him. He’s slow to react, which doesn’t work with how deep he plays. Went to look for his 40 time and found this, Lacks desired instincts and will play with slow eyes at times. Has to see ball in the air before …4.46 is impressive, but he doesn’t show it on the field, and after watching his 40 time, he runs very stiff. I’d love to have a 6’4″ S that runs a 4.46, but he needs to show it on the field. I’ll stick with my earlier assessment of a project. We don’t need him this year, so he’d have a year to learn and maybe, with better film study to recognize the play, he’ll turn out to be a star.
Steve, I’ve heard a few people now say that about Charlton. Some think he’s more of a 2nd rd talent who well help against the run and give you some pass rush, but he won’t be a high sack guy in the NFL.
I don’t think he is a high sack guy
That’s what his tape and size says he is.
“Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Miami Dolphins (-2)”……Least one sports book lets you make bets already on opening day. Not a lot of respect in that number though.
It means they think TB is the better team.
TB is a team on the rise. That said, it’s too early for stuff like this. Before the draft, TC and PS, nobody knows what anyone’s team will looks like.
I can tell you what the cheats will look like, and maybe Dallas too.
Desmond King is a baller. He also gives you help in the return game, if you want him to. I think he will go higher than expected. Dan Feeney is another guy I think will go higher than anticipated…just a hunch.
Iowa BALL HAWK(eye)!!!
I like Desmond, he plays the press man and off man both the same, with a little Revis in him, he keeps his eyes in the backfield as long as he can. He may give you help in the return game, but he’s not much of a KO returner, we have at least 3 guys much better now.
Against PSU he should’ve been able to stop 3 of the TDs, but one he was held, one it appears he thought he had deep help and the other he could get off of a block for like 5 seconds. Bottom line is he’s a pure cover guy, something we don’t currently have.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7jvk_TbVDI
King is someone I think we could put at FS day 1 and we’d be set.
We could, but why draft a CB to play safety? He isn’t a great tackler though.
Rigel Spikes @MF13SS · 5s6 seconds ago
STILL incredible to me that Michael Lombardi, Ozzie Newsome, Bill Belichick, and Nick Saban were together as #ClevelandBrowns from ’93-’94.
And they sucked 😛
Steve, nobody knows if a team will suffer major injuries etc. that changes the makeup of a team heading into the season. Also sleepers that come out of nowhere that change a team’s fortunes. That’s all I’m saying, too early for realistic spreads.
Nobody really saw Dak Prescott having the season he did. Now that there is a book on him, can he do it again?
That wasn’t the point of the betting line, it was as it stands right now. The books don’t really care who wins most of the time, they just want the vig/juice, so by putting a line out now they should get early betting of people they normally wouldn’t get, increasing their bottom line.
What you’re saying goes without saying.
You have a propensity to state the obvious Tim, like don’t forget…
I’m just bustin’ your bawls Tim 😛
13 years ago today, Pat Tillman lost his life in Afghanistan after selflessly turning away from the NFL to serve our country in the fight against the Taliban. RIP, MR. Pat Tillman. You are truly missed.
😦
Yeah and to be killed by friendly fire makes it even sadder. RIP Pat Tillman.
That fact still hurts me to this very day. So VERY deeply saddening to me. That man is a hero for his courageous actions… so as to forfeit a lucrative career in the NFL to fight a terrorist organization because he felt it his obligation.
😥
Here’s a guy that did some analysis on Desmond King, I thought the part about him not being a returner was funny, because it’s what I said earlier. He says he was a ballhawk in 2015, not so much in 2016, but since he came back his senior year he’s polished.
Looks like he can also be a good slot corner. Be verwy, verwy worried Bobby McCain, should we draft him.
Competition is good.
I may (or may not have been) the very first one to call Desmond King a killer nickel CB at the NFL level. Months after my ascertain of as much, somebody named Mike Mayock joined in on the thought… much to my glee.
Whether Desmond be a nickel CB or FS, he’s going to be a STUD. Now write that down… being it’s already been written.
His recognition gives him a chance to be stud, his physical skills not so much, but it’s not a sure thing. He’s not destined to be a stud.
Some of the issues we had in the secondary and even at LB were we had to use so many different guys week to week due to injuries. It would be nice if we could have some more cohesion this season with the same players being on the same page.
McCain didn’t help out too much either, he got beat early and often.
It wasn’t just him but yes he did struggle at times. Missed tackles by both the LBs and DBs was an issue a lot of the time. We should have stopped more plays for less gains than we did. It was very frustrating.
https://twitter.com/theflyingpig44/status/855854759747739649
That would work
I like Vanderdoes, but not in the 3rd. He has a nice bull rush and a little quick twitch at the snap, but no speed.
He will be gone by the end of the 4th
And we have no 4th so….
I’m sure there will be some maneuvering when we get into the 3rd
There are a lot of athletes that might go between 3rd and 4th that might help us

Lol, Scooby 😉
I’m on RECORD as having said that if Scooby can’t break a 4.70 40-time at the Combine, I’m no longer interested in him. What happened? He done ran a 4.81 (4.91 high). I TOTALLY took him off my board after that.
He was even worse in other agility drills.
Yes, @ Tim.
No free pass for you, because you had him there initially. He showed zero skills on tape, that projected to the NFL.
Great instincts
Great heart
Horrible athlete
I don’t remember seeing a combine crush a player like that before
That’s what the combine is for, to test athleticism. To both confirm and expose.
Indeed!
Tim called him Frankenstein….lol
LOL, I actually felt bad for him.
I felt bad for those that thought he could play 😉
Steve, Vanderdoes ran a 4.99 which is pretty good at 6-3 305. The knock on him is he struggles with his weight and has a knee issue. But he’s got talent.
He played some at DE at UCLA, that’s why I mentioned his speed, and also since I mentioned quick twitch I didn’t want to mislead anyone to think I was referring to a Wake type of quick twitch.
Is the knee a career issue, or is it just bothering him now?
No I view him as a DT who maybe can play some DE in the NFL. Not a Wake type player at all.
I read a report that after he tore his ACL in 2015 he never seem to fully recover. So maybe it’s one of those situations where he needs a full year removed.
steve,
Yeah, King isn’t a dynamic return guy, but he is a fairly safe guy to put back there who will make the right play most of the time. Security is his biggest asset as a returner. I’ve seen his whole college career. He made tons of plays in his junior year. Teams did not throw at him a lot his senior year. He is a good enough tackler and certainly better than a lot of DBs in the NFL. That doesn’t worry me a ton. He can always get better though.
***
He’s definitely not an athletic specimen, but he makes plays. He’s very smart. A team leader and just a very solid football player and locker room guy. He’s gonna get better, but he’s been coached well at Iowa. Of course, I am a homer. Lol
Security is his biggest asset as a returner. Lol Then you obviously would rather him returning punts, than Devin Hester.
He’s a good enough tackler for a CB, but not for a safety, someone mentioned he could be a day one starter at FS.
I love his intangibles, and think he’ll be a Landry type player for us, without that jackass attitude.
Ronde Barber wasn’t the most physically gifted athletes but was super productive.
If by some miracle foster is there at 22 we have to take him, failed test or not.
It’s not just the failed test. He’s got more than one red flag.

The Temple Tough/M13 draft
This one is pretty good, I like all 5 up to Sprinkle, the other 2 I don’t know.
I love Sprinkle as a 5th round pick, he blocks very well and can catch and run, with long arms and big hands he’s going to make some team real happy. I’d have to think hard about not taking Njoku, if I could get Sprinkle later.
One thing I noticed with Sprinkle is they have him delay before he goes out on a route a lot, so instead of blocking before he goes out he’ll just stay in his stance for a second, and it seems to carry over to plays where he’s just supposed to block. The 2 occasions I noticed him blocking Myles Garrett he got out of his stance late and was pushed back both times.
