Week 3 – Game 2 – N.O. Saints @ Miami Dolphins in London, Wembley Stadium

103116_london_CP2

After a crushing week for the Miami Dolphins, they get to “host” the New Orleans Saints in London at Wembley Stadium.  This has been a bizarre season already, with Hurricane Irma postponing Game 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, then flying to Los Angeles to play the Chargers in the Stub Hub Center, in which the capacity is just a little bigger than the Dolphins practice bubble (30,000 capacity).  We come out of Los Angeles with a victory by the skin of our teeth as Chargers kicker Younghoe Koo goes wide right attempting the game winning 44 yard FG.  Then we travel to New Jersey to face what everyone thought was the “tanking” NY Jets, the team seeking to get the 1st pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.  Well, surprise-surprise!  These NY Jets came to play, and though the Dolphins fanbase was present, with Dolfans NYC representing well with over a 1000 screaming Dolfans, along with the many other Dolphins fans that went on their own, they were all soon drowned out by a throaty NY crowd that smelled Dolphins blood in the water.  Attendance at Met Life was 77,562, and it was reportedly quite loud, especially compared to the paltry capacity of the Stub Hub Center in Cali.

Miami Dolphins v New York Jets

The Dolphins offense was completely over matched in all facets against the jets this past weekend.  We tried to run the ball, but there was no room anywhere, as the jets made it a priority to shut down Ajayi. When we gave up on the run game, and became one dimensional, neither jay Cutler, nor the O-line were up to the task, and the Jets defense that had previously swarmed Ajayi on every run was now all over Jay Cutler.  Cutler was sacked 3 times, but he was hit at least 3-4 times that during the game.  It was a bad game for Cutler, a bad game for the O-line, and a bad game for the defense, so basically, we got whipped in every area we could.  The Saints are coming off a blowout 34-13 win against the Carolina Panthers.  Cam Newton was worse than jay Cutler, throwing 3 INT’s and zero TD’s and our old Friend Ted Ginn Jr. caught a 40 YD TD for the Saints.

What can we expect from our team, who has had the strangest beginning to the 2017 NFL season?  I haven’t any idea.  Thankfully, the Saints don’t possess the defensive talent the NY Jets have.  They’re not horrendous, but they don’t have quite the talent of the Jets front 7.  The Saints play the 4-3 defense, led by LDE Cameron Jordan, 2nd year and former 1st RD pick (#12) DT Sheldon Rankins at DT, along with Tyeler Davidson and RDE Alex Okafor.  The Saints do have a quality LB in rookie Alex Anzalone (WLB), and fill it out with AJ Klein (SLB) and Craig Robertson (MLB).  Klein was picked up as a FA from Carolina, and Robertson picked up as a FA from Cleveland, so like Miami, they’re trying to throw pieces together to make it work.  Incidentally, as you all know, Stephone Anthony who the Dolphins traded for last week for a 2018 5th RD draft pick will get a chance to face his former team, as will WR Ted Ginn Jr.  The Saints have a decent secondary with corners Marshon Lattimore and PJ Williams, along with safeties Kenny Vaccaro and Marcus Williams.

The Saints offense is the strength of their team, led by QB Drew Brees, a fine young WR in Michael Thomas, the aforementioned WR Ted Ginn Jr., a good TE in Coby Fleener (AKA FleenAH), and a stable of capable RB’s including Mark Ingram, former Vikes great Adrian Peterson, and promising rookie Alvin Kamara.  The Saints so far are averaging 24.3 PPG, and are 3rd in the NFL in passing yards averaging 378.3 YPG.  See a problem there?  We just made an all-pro out of Josh McCown, so what will Drew Brees and the Saints offense do to us?  First of all, we have to have significantly better balance on offense.  Actually, forget balance, we just need to run the ball down their throats the entire game.  Ajayi is hurting, but he only had 11 carries this week, and I’d bet he’s hungry to have a big game.  I would also guess that we don’t want to put the game squarely on Jay Cutler’s severely diminished arm (Ha!), so this beleaguered O-line gets a shot at redemption by pushing the Saints defense all over the field.  This a “home” game, so hopefully we take advantage of that. On defense, we get a boost from the return of LB Lawrence Timmons from suspension, so hopefully his presence gives us a jolt.  The Saints packed up and left for London Sunday night after a celebratory dinner.  The Dolphins will be traveling to London on Friday.  We’ll see which strategy pays off.

GO DOLPHINS!  Zero in!

I know UK Fin Fan will be in attendance this Sunday, so let’s hope for his sake the Dolphins give him and us a great football Sunday!  We need it!

Piggy the Clintons reaped the initial benefit from it. Are they racist? Donald Trump did pick it up again, and used it to rally support for him from the people that hated Obama. It doesnt mean though those people were racist, there were people that hated Obama and had nothing to do with him being black, especially after the second term. I do agree with you though, your argument is pretty sound, like a proof by associated truths, that if he knew he would be rallying racists, you could consider it a racist move.

Likewise for the statement about Mexico sending criminals. If he knew he was rallying racists, it would be a racist move, but there were also a lot of people who just feel illegal immigration is wrong and its not on a racial level, some are fearful for their safety from some, not all illegals, because whether or not ALL illegals were criminals, some were so maybe he struck a cord of fear for their support and not racism.

I understand your perspective and i admit i didn’t see your angle to start with at all. Still i convinced myself through taking your perspective and looking at it that this can be considered a lock down argument. Its a good one, but its not logically infallible. You have to see that a lot of the reasons your calling it that is because you believe him to be a racist to start with. I lean that way myself, but Tim is right here. There isn’t definite proof of it, and like i said before you have an ever increasing proof of unfit to be president, which IMO is good enough.

I humbly submit that if you’ve taken any stance on Trumps remarks you are ill equipped to argue “get back to football!”

This IS topical. Every bit as topical as “Simmons is back at practice”….

Maybe I have strayed at times as to why he is doing it, but my main theme on Trump all along has been “keep politics out of my football.” So maybe not a virgin on such, but least am chaste on such.

  4. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

Did Hillary actually promote the birther argument? I was not aware of that. If she benefited off it is of little importance. Trump benefited from Russian interference in the election, but it doesn’t mean he was party to it.

I just don’t recall that, but if I’m wrong I really want to know.

    • D's avatar D says:

Hillary never supported it directly, but her backers did, Trump being one. It would be hard if not impossible to prove if they ever directly approve the backser usingit, but its hard to believe that your backers would do something that benefitted you without you having some knowledge of it and if you were in opposition to it, you would have thought that she would have exposed them and refused support from them afterward, which she did not.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

I didn’t realize Trump was one of her backers tbh. One thing I really respected about McCain in 2008 was when he held a town hall and one of his supporters said that Obama was an “Arab” and he took the mike from her and set the record straight. Takes guts to do that…

      • D's avatar D says:

“Numerous fact checks, reports and interviews — in 2008 and 2011, when Trump revived the controversy — revealed that although some Clinton supporters circulated rumors about Obama’s citizenship, the campaign and Clinton herself never trafficked in it.

“There has never been evidence that Clinton or her campaign started the birther rumors,” said Ben Smith, editor in chief of BuzzFeed, who as a POLITICO reporter in 2011 linked the origin of the “birther” movement to a fringe politician in Illinois. Some hardcore Clinton backers circulated the rumors in 2008, but the campaign itself steered clear.”

      • D's avatar D says:

Jahn, Trump was one of the largest contributors of Hillary’s campaign. He was a hardcore democrat until she lost that election. He is or at least was one a close friend of both Bill and Hillary. This was something a lot of the Republicans brought up when questioning his devotion to actually running for president or supporting conservative ideals.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

^ Still, to your point if she had an opportunity to stifle it, she should have done it.

no matter who the president of the United States is…….not standing and honoring the national anthem, it’s colors (flag), and the millions of people who fought and/or died for it…..is very selfish and totally disloyal to America….period,…no matter what your beef is, showing disrespect to the nation will win you no favors to a vast majority of the patriotic country…..yes, you’ll find a very select few of people who have served or lost love ones serving that will back theses sons of bitches up and take side with them…..but of course, it’s their right to do so.

    • D's avatar D says:

Ill stand by the fact that it could have been handled different, and without doubt the guy that started it has shown the least interest in doing something past just kneeling, so i think it was started poorly by a man who doesnt have an activist bone in his body. Had people with a real concern for how the protest would be received, to how they could turn it into a growth point, i think with better leadership they could have chosen a better way. I think they could have done something more like what the Cowboys are doing now, with it not being at the Anthem but before or after.

I think they could have also all done what Stills and Thomas did and moved the Monday practice back (they only get 1 full pads practice each week, the other days are walk through and film study) and spend the first part of the engaging the community and the police. Im really hoping this part becomes more prevalent than the protest part.

I do wonder thought Top, are you against the arm locking while standing for the Anthem, are you that restrictive, or do you just not want to see the kneeling. The kneeling to me doesn’t bother me either, as long as thy are reverent. If they are chatting about what ingredients you use in Taco Soup while they are kneeling, or even standing for that matter, that pisses me off more than any of the kneeling/standing.

      • TOP SECRET's avatar TOP SECRET says:

      • D's avatar D says:

Reply for you above Top and i really am interested in your perspective on what is the disrespectful part, is it any form of protesting during the anthem, even standing (ie standing and locking arms) or is it specific to kneeling, ie standing is the only way to be reverent.

      • TOP SECRET's avatar TOP SECRET says:

        I did reply 🙂

      • D's avatar D says:

Fair enough, i don’t see that the protests can be stopped without it being more disrespectful to freedom than what they are doing, though i completely agree with the fact that they are not looking at it with fully open eyes, they aren’t seeing the hurt it causes.

Part of it is how the people who are pissed at it are reacting, it kind makes them lock in. Stills and Thomas stopped kneeling once they started talking with the community and cops, they both stated that they didn’t think it would have the effect on people that it did and even though they felt like they should continue to bring attention that way, they stopped because it was more negative to continue than positive and they were making positive strides in a new way.

I think some learned from the experience, but i also think they had the gauntlet thrown down to them by Trump, which is why they responded by going back to kneeling. Im hoping they come back around again. I tweeted to Stllls to not let Trump reset their progress as a way to hopefully let them see he wins if they change their direction because he got under their skin. They are kids after all with no real wisdom to judge how to make the best decisions to situations like that.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

  17. D's avatar D says:

Im pretty close to what Popovic said about the uncomfortable nature of these kids of discussions. He says they need to be uncomfortable, but my take is it, they are and always will be uncomfortable UNTIL you talk them through enough that you stop being afraid 1) to talk about it, and 2) to listen. As you continue to do those thing, you become less uncomfortable and once you reach the point you are completely comfortable in it, you probably have grown as a person and as one less contributor to the problem. Trust me, im not saying that everyone will come to one side or the other, im not even insinuating what side that will be or be closer to. In fact i believe its WAY more likely if all people truly commit to this, that we all pile up in the middle.

Its been a long day for me too, i literally though i read you say Get some cocktail and then get some rest so you can enjoy the Dolphins game. I was like whats a threesome going to do for her to make the game better, she’s going to have to kick two people out on Saturday that way instead of just one, and early at that since the game will be at like 8-9am.

On the other hand, it was absolutely delicious!

    Top
    Sir … and everyone,
I am a Patriot. (proof omitted due to it being boring and verbose). I love my country.

But the “tradition” of NFL players standing for the anthem is less than ten years old.
There is some strong evidence that the government paid the NFL to start doing this
(and several other “patriotic” pregame rituals such as bringing out that huge flag, having servicemen and women in uniform on camera on the sidelines, etc.)
These staged displays were devised to help recruit young people to join up, to galvanize support for a long, losing war in Afghanistan, and other similar agenda items.

I always stand when i am at a game with hand over heart during the anthem or whenever i hear the pledge, such as at my sons’ college graduations, etc.

But when i have done these things, it was never my understanding that i was honoring fallen soldiers or supporting the military (not that i don’t) but that i am pledging my allegiance and love for my country and the ideals of freedom and justice and equality and opportunity it gives us.

So if I were to take a knee (I wouldn’t, but if i did) it would symbolize that I thought something was wrong in America that was compromising those ideals. This is what the original protesters were saying. They never said anything against the soldiers, the dead heroes, or the military per se.

That doesn’t give radicalized leftists a free-pass for their unwarranted attacks on our country. As I stated earlier, everything they are charging President Trump with is EXACTLY the same thing Obama had done. Doesn’t make it correct on President Trump’s part, but it exposes the hypocrisy of the radical/indoctrinated/communistic/Russian-loving leftists. And neither Obama or Trump broke the law.

I’d rather talk about football than argue with radicalized, leftist pea-brains. Leave them to explain their “Utopian” Venezuela before they –so-called AMERICANS — DARE to remark on OUR FLAG.

  48. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

btw I caught a whiff of a fact on here the other day that was challenged and not verified.

The Pledge of Allegiance was written by an educator, made popular by his colleagues (teachers), and raised to its current significance by support from the teacher unions, whose leadership and membership insisted that all children recite the pledge every day in school.

i have been associated with many schools, and all of them have honored the teachers’ demands that the pledge be recited, and the teachers enforce that the kids stand up and place hand over heart. The only ones i know of who are allowed to not participate are the Jehovah’s Witnesses, who are a type of Christian that does not believe in patriotism.

So to blame teachers for raising children to be unpatriotic, at least about the pledge and the anthem, is directly in contradiction to known and verifiable fact.

  49. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

The other thing that bothers me is the specious reasoning that anyone who notices anything wrong in America is unpatriotic. Everyone should try at all times to make everything better: America, cars, football, TV, everything. That way our grandchildren will live in a better world. That is why we live in a better world (if we do, and I believe we do) than our grandparents did.

The idea that criticizing what is wrong in America is un-American is backwards. Bowing down to a King without criticizing is un American. Striving to improve our country is what has made this the best country in the world.

  50. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Finally, the arrogant concept that only conservatives are “Good Americans” and liberals don’t love this country is also flat out wrong and is merely a cheap way of refusing to engage in self-improvement of our wonderful country. This includes hiding behind name calling such as the silly and juvenile new insulting use of “snowflake,”

People who use that term to bully, intimidate, or shame others so they don’t need to think or engage in critical thinking are cowards hiding behind their insults.

  51. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

The Pledge of Allegiance, which conservatives love so much. is also loved by liberals.

Old Dolphan wrote a very good post a few days ago making an analogy that resonated with me, as i am also very old. I was a cadet in ROTC while in college. But i was also against the Viet Nam War as it was being planned and executed by both a democrat LBJ and a Republican Dick Nixon.

I had friends who died in that war, and some who fought over there and survived. i supported them while they were over there and honored them when they returned and helped them re acclimate to civilian life over the decade of the 70s and beyond. I and hundreds of my hippie friends did all this for our soldiers while marching against the war.

Because our men, our fighters, were our heroes. The politicians were to blame for the failure in Nam.

When i read twisted revisions of what happened back then, i am outraged. i never once saw or even heard of anyone spitting on a returning soldier, for example. We immediately enfolded them into our teams and towns and classes and healed them as best we could. That is the fact of what happened, not some sensationalized account of what some lone deranged idiot may have done.

For every fool who burned a flag, there were thousands of us working hard to honor and nurture our wounded, traumatized soldiers upon their return. I lived then. I know what happened then.

I do know many Liberals who are for selective capital punishment, and almost always it’s in the case of mass murderers, serial killers, terrorists, child rapists, torturers, cannibals, and other heinous criminals.

When liberals are against capital punishment it is because they are shown through facts that a horrendous disproportion of those sentenced to capital punishment are African Americans. There is ample evidence that juries more often convict and judges more often sentence black men than they do white men.

The other reason some liberals give for being against capital punishment is that it sometimes kills innocent people who were wrongly convicted. With the new forensics including DNA evidence, we will be able to ascertain guilt or innocence with far more certainty. I myself am in favor of capital punishment for murderers who are witnessed by multiple bystanders and / or who are linked unequivocally by DNA evidence.

Top — I do not think abortion is on a spectrum with capital punishment.

One is a medical necessity or a psychosocial choice…. the other is part of our criminal justice system.

Abortion is one of the most unpleasant topics i can think of. I wish it had never happened even one time. But I still do not think the government should say what women can do about this issue, up to a point. I do think that no mother should be allowed to murder a new-born baby, for example, or to terminate a full-term pregnancy.

I am so sickened by the entire issue that i refuse to discuss the particulars of viability of a fetus versus the needs of a woman who discovers that she is pregnant by a man she hates.

I am totally against abortion as a means of birth control, although i am totally in favor of birth control pills. however, in the case of rape, incest, or a pregnancy that will cause death to the woman, i think it’s an option of last resort that no law should deny,

On this issue i will speak only for myself and not “liberals” because i do not discuss this with anyone so i don’t know what any other individual or group thinks. I have never heard of anyone who is ‘pro” abortion. Some people are pro choice. At that point it’s a matter of whether it’s a good choice or not.

With guys like Fields, they have been in the league so long, you eventually hit a point where you age and veteran status (ie higher minimum required pay) that all that happens to you is being bounced around team to team each year because people use you as a stop gap until they can get a younger guy who might settle in with the team for the long term. Im sure its a rough life to each year have to have a temporary home in another town away from your family most of the season, or drag them around with you every where you go. Hard to have a family (an most the older guys do) and live that life.

The hate, originated from the fortunate one draft dodger calling blacks sons of bitches.
I hate dictators that dodged the draft, making up lies that hurt the NFL, 7 days counting now.
No one can list a player that says they are kneeling to disrespect the flag or military.
It’s easy to see the lifetime conman, conning us again!
He lied about the protests, because ignoring the social problems of blacks is what a white supremacist would do.
It’s not the flag anthem, or military anthem, it’s the national anthem, and all citizens are nationals.
If the president could once, just once discuss the REAL reason for the protests, and give us a solution, then everything would work out.
Trump dog whistles to white supremacists, because they are very important to him, much more so than the black people getting murdered by cops.
Calling players sons of bitches is needlessly spreading hate, standing up to the lies and charades, isn’t hate, what the president is doing is hate

The NFL at best can put resources to help out, but that problem has the needs of concerned citizens and governmental agencies to come together and work things out.

So everyone a protest is done Trump should put other issues aside and get down to business with the protesters? You act like police brutality is his fault. The real divide is coming from the left.

Fields got put out to pasture?
    —————————————–
I think Stanger might say, its not so much that fields was “put out to pasture”, is that that phrase should now be changed to “put out to Fields” in his honor.

The videos of people burning their own property in protest of the NFL is entertaining.

Just like people like to point out about rioting and burning and destroying your own community’s stuff is stupid, this too ranks right up there. Its like watching Tennessee fans bust their TV’s after every loss to the Gators, entertaining, but more in a “i like to laugh at stupid people” kind of way.

I get your point, but at least with burning their own NFL gear that they already paid, it’s not hurting anyone but themselves. Rioting and Looting, however, affects other people negatively.
