Holy shit.. Page turn. Cutler still sucks

I have to give a shout out to Pensacola’s University of West Florida football team. In only their second year of existence, they knocked off the #1 ranked DIV II team to advance to the championship game but lost 37-27. That team they were playing had a massive (DIV I size, ave 6’5″ 318) OL and UWF was just out manned in the trenches.

  4. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Naples. Chase Allen is solid and we get McMillan back at MLB next year. I don’t see LB as a priority unless there is a prospect too good to pass on.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Allen is back up material. He is not athletic enough to be an every down LB. I do think we need to upgrade LB as a priority in the off season

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

McMillan will be the starting MLB in 2018/Allen backup. Alonso, possibly Timmons back and Anthony. It’s not a priority. We need upgrades on the OL and at TE. Another pass rusher would be nice.

Like I said unless there is a LB prospect too good to pass on.

  5. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Our Cutlery is dull, we need to sharpen it.

  6. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Damn, Gronk bear hugged the defender on that TD run and didn’t get called. Not surprised.

  7. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Ken, Allen is athletic. It’s his read and react that is hampering him. IMO I believe he has a huge ceiling.

  8. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

That is odd how did that happen?

Cause our cutlery is really dull, LOL

  9. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

The Patriots should be super embarrassed about the game on Monday after that display we had today.

  10. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

So guess we can cross possible playoffs and Cutler as our possible starting QB next year out of our system. Last three games showed we have two possible young stars in Drake and Howard though.

  13. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

    Cutler is as Cutler does

  14. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Cutler assumes to much on what a WR is gong to do. That last INT he assumed Parker was going to go out, but I guess Parker saw the DB on that side so he went inside with end result of the pass going to the DB. Parker should have turned to the outside anyway since we were racing the clock. I don’t know what the F I’m trying to say. I’m just disgusted.

  15. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Looks like Brown has a broken leg!

  16. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We can start to focus on the offseason and how this team needs to shape up. OL, TE and a piece here and there almost everywhere. I see a lot of upside from some core and young players moving forward.

We will re-sign Landry. Some other guys are going to free that up, like Thomas and probably Branch. We will likely draft a top TE prospect and another pass rusher to go along with the young and emerging Harris.

Yes OL should be a priority. 🙂

  17. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Cutler is too android. He doesn’t fire anyone up. He just plays the game the way he is. He has talent but he also is mistake-prone. He won’t be back in 2018.

  18. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I know we have McMillan coming back. I was referring to why we lost this game, but i did not state it very clearly.

I think we badly need a quick stud TE.

It doesn’t matter what happens when he hit the ground, it only matters if he has control crossing the plane which he did. Complete bullshit call

  27. Cutler sux, no more high priced free agent QB,s please 😎
Hopefully We draft one, and RT and the rookie can fight it out for starter.

  28. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Stanger, I’m in the SB or Championship game. Gurley put me over the top. 🙂

  29. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

It was called a TD…it WAS a TD. Replay surely didn’t give indisputable proof otherwise that I could see.

Cutler wasn’t a high priced FA he was an emergency signing once Tannehill got hurt. I agree he has not been good but he was not brought in to be the guy he was brought as a place holder. It didn’t work but I understand why it was done

  32. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Looks like Big Ben pulled a “Cutlermoore” with the INT in the end. 😉

  33. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

They did get robbed! I will bet if they would have put the cameras on Kraft during the review, it would have showed Kraft talking to someone on the phone making a quick deal.

It’s difficult to believe we’re still in the playoff hunt after today’s game.

  35. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Since thinking his body might break down, he might not end up having the best career ever. But no TE in his prime do I choose to start for one game over Gronk if he is healthy. He’s just a force.

  36. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

What baffles me about the play where Jesse James scored the TD is this. He didn’t make the catch IN the endzone, yet they applied those rules as if he did. He was like a ball carrier, he made the catch, he was down, his knees hit, and he lunged forward and the ball broke the plane. I can’t understand any reason that isn’t a touchdown. He had full possession of the football when his knees were down, and then the football crossed the goal line. No way that’s not a TD

  37. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Toba – That was a tough day for your squad. You had a great team, they just didn’t play well today. I had the same kind of thing happen to me in one of my other FF leagues. Antonio Brown went out, and that was it. I made some bad decisions on WR’s too, I could have played Landry, but I went with Demaryius Thomas, Josh Gordon and Antonio Brown. If AB played the whole game I would have won, but still, some bad decisions on my part.

  38. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

They really need to make the rules of a catch more simple, and less ambiguous. The fact that they can manipulate the interpretation from play to play is a real turnoff to any football fan. Every play becomes a courtroom drama, rather than an easy YES or NO that it was a catch. It’s just ridiculous that a game can be decided by this nonsensical ruling. They just have to change it.

  39. D's avatar D says:

Mike I saw that play exactly as you did. There is going to be some stink raised over that call next week

  40. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Your score is: 17711 (GRADE: B)

    Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 12: Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA (A+)

Round 3 Pick 12: Dallas Goedert, TE, South Dakota State (A)
    Round 4 Pick 12: K.J. Malone, OG, LSU (A)

Tenn Titans loss to 49ers was a gem of an opportunity for a “win out” scenario for Fins. But, alas, we couldn’t handle our own business. 😦

  44. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

Mike E; Totally agree that the controversial play in the Steeler’s game was a touchdown!!–Once the ball advanced to the goal line the play was over b/c he caught the ball, and his knees hit the turf due to being tackled.
    ————————
STOPPED WATCHING the Fins game when the score hit 24-6 in the 3rd quarter. HOW MANY TIMES did the Bills have a running back WIDE OPEN about 5-6 yards past the line of scrimmage near the center of the field?? – – And WHY was Burke unable to make the necessary adjustments??- – – Could it be that Gase has ANOTHER goofball assistant coach??
    ———————–
WYOMING: Saw your mock draft waited until ROUND 4 to fill our single greatest need, the O-Line. Do you REALLY THINK T-BOMB AND GRIER can fill these gaping holes in round 4??–I certainly do NOT!! –That’s why I believe we need to use our first two picks in the O-Line, as MF-13 and others have hinted at. Yes, with better “pickers” we might find what we need in round 4. But these jokers have a very dubious record with O-Line picks after round 3, right??

  45. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

NFL scheduling change I would like to see…
Quit scheduling division opponents (twice in three weeks). Its a trend. Maybe there’s a glitch that this is the only way to do it, but spread them out. i.e., playing Jets twice in three weeks early in the season takes away all the drama IF they both would have been in contention.

  46. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

    Wyoming,
how can each individual pick be A- or higher, then the overall grade be a “B”. Final grades must have been assigned by the graduate T.A. lol

  47. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

as per NFL rules the player has to maintain possession thru-out the catching process, in order for it to be ruled as a catch. if he had made a football move then it would have been good.

The fact that he caught it in the air and was coming down from the catch, his knee hit then the rest of his body and the ball hit the ground forcing him to briefly lose possession, result NO CATCH.

Unfortunately the zebras got this call right, he didn’t catch the ball he muffed it as he hit the ground.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Uh, didn’t he “hit the ground” when his knees hit the ground? How many times and different places does he need to hit the ground before it counts?

  48. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Only first round Guard in Miami’s draft history was Roy Foster 1982 (we got 9 great seasons out of him). I don’t want to research it, but I wonder how many other teams have gone 35 years without the need for a guard in first round?

I will let those of you with more knowledge debate this… but the issue (to me) seems to be: if our QB doesn’t seem to be very ‘quick’ in decision making, it makes sense to have a dominant guard for our run game. If our QB IS able to make quick decisions, then it may not be as important. Luck did amazing things behind a shitty line (even if the odds finally caught up to him).

If we stick with Tannehill (which it seems like we will), then we may need to get the best Guard in the draft despite the 35 year trend.

    • rgs322's avatar rgs322 says:

Problem is the best guard may be gone when we pick. It’s possible we go 6-10 and still pick around 13/14 in the first round. Quenton Nelson is projected in most drafts going any where from 8-14.

      • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

I think we need to be 9 or 10 to have a clear shot cuz so many in front of us have glaring needs. Even then, the only Guard in top 10 recently I can remember is Panthers about 4 or 5 years ago (?)…. don’t know his name.

    • rgs322's avatar rgs322 says:

I honestly don’t think we have a shot for a top 10 pick without trading up. (I’m not saying we should trade up). Just too many bad teams in front of us with weaker SOS. Pick 11 is the highest we have a shot at.

  50. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Guard is a low value pick, that’s why they are usually not taken early, QB…DE….T….CB…WR are high value picks that’s why they come off early.

49 passing attempts and 16 rushes, if we can’t run the ball consistently we cant win

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We were down 21-6 at half. You can’t just produce stats like that w/o game context. Can’t run a lot when you’re down 15 points in the 2nd half.

  52. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

    8-8 Dolphin playoff team (LOL):
    1. Fins beat Chiefs and Bills
    2. Titans lose both to Rams and Jax
    3. Chargers lose one game (Jets or Raiders)… Jets over Chargers is the biggest ‘upset’ we need outside of #’s 1 and 2 on this list.
    4. Raiders lose to Eagles would take pressure of last game of Raiders vs Chargers.
    5. Patriots beat Bills

@Jax (likely) for first round of WC…. I feel cheap for even writing this kool-aid soaked post.

  53. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Last comment for now as I have work to do. “Who to cheer for list” …

    Week 15.. IF wins by
    Fins (Chiefs)
    Pats (Bills)
    Jets (Chargers)
    Rams (Titans)
    Eagles (Raiders)

then Week 16 we only need
    Fins (Bills)
    Jax (Titans)

Of the games we don’t control (which actually could also be OUR game lol) Jets/Chargers is the biggest ‘ask’. So –

    Week 15 … IF
    Fins (Chiefs)
    Pats (Bills)
    CHARGERS (JETS)
    Rams (Titans)
    Eagles (Raiders)

    then Week 16 we need
    Fins (Bills)
    Jax (Titans)
    Raiders (Chargers)

At any point, one win by Bills or Titans eliminates Fins. Two wins by either Chargers or Raiders eliminates Fins.
Done. There’s your “who to cheer for” list if you still want an 8-8 playoff team. 😉

Well, that sucked. Here’s hoping 2018 is a better year. Still think Gase is a good coach and will improve. Still don’t like Tannebaum. I’d love a consistent GM/FO that makes smart and efficient decisions. No panic moves or risky trades that give up assets for big contract players or moving up in the draft for questionable returns. Stay the hell out of FA for the first week or two. You can’t tell me we wouldn’t have gotten similar results from a rookie or unsigned FA that we got from Branch, Timmons, Alonso, etc. Don’t mind the Starks and Jones deals, but neither of those really paid off either. Football is just too violent of a game to invest in guys long term. I think the draft is more important than ever these days. That, and finding a top 5 QB somehow.

Buffalo tried to tank and may end up in the playoffs. Go figure…

Uh, didn’t he “hit the ground” when his knees hit the ground? How many times and different places does he need to hit the ground before it counts?
    ______________________________________________________
The play doesn’t stop and conclude when a body part touches the ground, you have to maintain possession thru-out the catch, in other words catch the ball and come up clean which he did not do

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think you are right but its a very problematic standard

you wind up in an arbitrary discussion about what is maintaining possession.

If I were an official and he had possession when the ball crossed the goal line I would have upheld the TD. It only came out after his upper body hit the ground which followed his keens hitting the ground

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

catch the ball, don’t bobble it, come up clean with the catch, if you catch the ball and make a football move that football move may be up for arbitration.

football move equals 2 steps maintaining possession.

he was airborne made the catch and didn’t maintain possession thru-out the catch no football move was made.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

not only did he bobble it but it hit the ground at that point so the ground assisted his catch.

    ___________________________________________________

I think you’re misunderstanding me, I understand the frantic play calling to try to catch up however if we could run the ball consistently with success we would not be down 21-6.

Gase needs to find out how to consistently run the ball with success or we’ll always be just another patsy.

the teams that run the ball with success are leading the NFL

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

For me it starts up front. Too many plays where there is nowhere for the back to go.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

we also lack creative run blocking schemes and that’s on the OL-C and HC.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Not sure what you mean by creative run blocking schemes? Like what?

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

like what are we doing in these sweeps that run into the teeth of the D for minus 5 yards?
go back to the counter trey where you have 2 OL pulling to a certain hole, i havent seen any OL pulling, just runs straight up the middle and look for the opening most of the time getting stuffed.

we play backwards, our pass sets up the run instead of vice versa

  69. D's avatar D says:

You can’t just arbitrarily say we need to run more, because what’s the magic number, who decided that’s the number? Wouldn’t you think the coach knows that better than us? Seriously you can’t think you know what’s the better game plan and the Gase is deliberately abandoning the run game when he shows every game when it’s working and where we are in the position where the game is in reach that he believes in running the ball. How is it hard to see that the pattern here is we don’t run when we are getting blown out, it’s not we are getting blown out because we aren’t running enough.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

you’re missing the point, i’m not saying run the ball own 21-6, I’m saying we have to find a way to successfully run the ball whether that be with new OL, new OLC or a new RB.

we need a vertical RB one that will take it up the middle and get you 4 yards consistently. however that happens it has to be achieved or we can not contend.
the main reason we made the playoffs last year was the fact that we had the #4 rb in the league.

      it can be done

  70. D's avatar D says:

Also he did make a football move. He caught it and then turned and stretched out to break the plane, and he did that from his knees, ie after completing the catch and going to the ground

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

A player has the ball long enough to become a runner when, after his second foot is on the ground, he is capable of avoiding or warding off impending contact of an opponent, tucking the ball away, turning up field, or taking additional steps

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      Who are you talking about?

      • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

        The Steelers non TD….

If that guy would have just fell and rolled in it would have been a TD. Him stretching out after he caught it with knees on the ground was a football move to me

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah I just heard about it on WFAN radio. The former ref Mike Pereira said as a receiver you still have to have control of the ball at the end – ground forcing it or not, it’s not like a RB. He also said he thinks officiating is becoming too technical and it’s ruining the game.

  71. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    OD
I would love to draft nelson in the first!

But I think there is going to be more talent than him on the board when we pick
Not taking talent and reaching for needs have gotten the last 3 GM’s fired!!!!!

The top pick is talent! If it fills a HOLE then better!

The simulators are fun but sometimes someone drops that you can’t pass up (even though you know in real life it will never happen!)

  72. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Rob, I do remember on 1st down we ran a sweep and I was saying why do that there? I didn’t think the timing of the play call was right and we took a loss. But I still feel the blocking up front on a lot of running plays isn’t very good. For every good one we have we have like 3-4 not so good and sometimes the RB has to make something happen on his own which Drake does a lot of the time. If we could improve up front with run blocking Drake could be a top back. He is so quick and fast it’s scary.

  73. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

This is prett impressive. Can’t believe he wasn’t doubled

  74. I’m sorry but the team should have fired Matt Burke right after that game. They need a REAL defensive coordinator because the bearded wonder ain’t gettin’ it done.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The game was lost on offense. The defense did not look good early on but held BUF to 3 points in the 2nd half as our offense continued to struggle scoring their only TD halfway through the 4th quarter. Once again no complimentary football. Then we get the onside kick and Cutler throws a horrible pick on the first play. You can’t lose the TO battle 3-0 especially on the road. The defense made enough big stops to give the offense a chance in the game and they couldn’t do it.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I am not sold on Burke either. It’s not anything in particular he did in Bills game but all year he just doesn’t seem to run a scheme that best suits our talent. I don’t understand why this team doesn’t have more sacks and why with the pass rush we should have that we don’t have more interceptions

I also heard Periera on the radio talking about Jesse Davis’s NON CATCH. The rule is stupid, it should be changed. The catch situation is all about when you’re going to the ground. When you go to the ground during the catch, you have to maintain possession when everything hits the ground. In Davis’s case, the ball moved after he crossed the goal line and when his hands came down and the ball did hit the ground. They need to change the rule to make the catch, get 2 feet down or your butt, or elbow, and you’ve made the catch. Where the extra nonsense comes in about maintaining possession after you go the ground is an over complication and unnecessary part of the rule.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Agreed. I remember the first time when I saw the new rules with receivers having to do all this stuff for it to be a catch and I was like WTF is this?

The new phrase is ticky tack and that’s the problem.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It totally detracts from the game. We knew for years that you catch the ball, get 2 feet in, or an elbow or butt, and it was a catch. Now you have to follow the fucking receiver back to the bench and make sure he still has the football or it’s not a catch. It’s nonsensical, this game is a pretty simple game, no need for complications.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s what Periera was talking about.

I remember if a guy was on his back and the ball rolled on his torso it was still a possession because it was still with him and not on the ground. Now it has to be still for one Mississippi. It’s stupid. Yet a player can run with it, barely cross the goal line or the pilon and fumble it, and it’s a TD. How about make it all the same and take less judgement calls away from the officials which lends to people thinking games are rigged. Make it more simple, not more complicated.

  76. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Mike I totally disagree, I play a lot of golf for money and these guys sometimes say you can roll the ball (if) you have a bad lie in the rough, well what constitutes a bad lie? why not just say you can roll the ball in the rough? or say you can’t.
maintain control catch the ball and avoid the controversy. otherwise it’s too ambiguous

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The reason why I think it’s bad for the game is this, if you’re a ballcarrier, can you can take a handoff, bobble it, have it for a quarter of a second, and then cross the plane with the ball, and it’s a TD. He had the ball, he had it when his knee hit, and then he crossed the plane. That should be sufficient. The idea is to cross the goal line with the ball in your hands, and he did that. I just think it’s too much interpretation going on.

  77. Ken's avatar Ken says:

James caught the ball. His knee was down but he was not touched. At that point he is a runner. His stretch of the ball over the goal line is a touchdown. The fact that it is bobbled at that point is immaterial because he is a runner at that point. The catch has already been made. To me it is no different than if he caught the ball at the 20 ran to the end zone and loses the ball as he crosses the goal line

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Periera said that’s not the case with a receiver but disagrees with the rule. That’s the problem. The rule is dumb.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

It is the case with a receiver. Once he becomes a runner he doesn’t need to maintain possession when hitting the ground. The question is did James complete the catch before stretching out to cross the goal line. If he did then he is a runner and that is a touchdown. That is how I saw the play.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well he said the opposite and that’s the problem which I agree with.

Florida Atlantic’s head football coach Lane Kiffin announced this afternoon that he hopes to sign a lengthy extension of his current contract at FAU. He told the Palm Beach Post he hopes to sign the new contract “real soon, perhaps before kick-off of tomorrow night’s nationally televised bowl game which will be held at Schnellenberger Field at FAU Stadium. The game will be nationally televised at 7:00 PM on ESPN.
    ——————————–
    POSSIBLE DOLPHINS CONNECTION??? —
Let me say this right up front. I do NOT think, under any circumstances, would Kiffin accept the Dolphins job if Adam Gase were to be dismissed in the next 2-3 years. BUT I DO BELIEVE SOME in the south Florida media will try to make this connection, especially if the Dolphins have another losing season next year. HOWEVER, if the Dolphins struggle AND Ross decides to sell the team after hosting the 2020 Super Bowl in Hard Head Stadium, a new owner MIGHT look in Kiffin’s direction, especially if FAU continues to average 40-50 points a game in 2018 and beyond.

TOMORROW is FAU DAY at our house. Shirts, flags, pennants, the whole deal !!! –I’ll even be wearing my OWLS’ Red-White and Blue to work tomorrow!!! Hope my boys put on a REAL SHOW for all you football fans out there!! GOO-O-O-O OWLS!

’16 Ryan Tannehill and ’17 Jay Cutler both have 389 total pass attempts after yesterday’s game. Cutler has 1 fewer TD, 2 more INTs, 9 fewer sacks, 4 fewer fumbles, and same amount of game-winning drives.

    And we must remember:

1)Tannehill did what he did last year behind a better O-Line, Jay Ajayi commanding 8 in-the-box, a sustainable running game, familiar receivers, and a far easier schedule than this year.

    2) Cutler is doing what he’s doing this year after retiring, requiring shoulder surgery, no offseason training program, an unsustainable running game (no more 8 in-the-box), unfamiliar receivers, a dink-and-dunk gameplan, operating behind a patchwork O-Line, and while sustaining cracked ribs and a concussion in the process.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the only difference between Tannehill and Cutler is that Tannehill can move the ball between the 20s (Cutler has trouble), Cutler is a very good redzone QB (Tanny has trouble), and Cutler has superior pocket presence. Beside THAT, they are essentially the same QB in what you’re going to get on the scoreboard. And to be sure, both Cutler and Tannehill (as of right now) have 3 more career losses than wins [74-77 (.490) to 37-40 (.480)].

It might be time to draft a QB early in ’18 as some here have suggested: a cheap backup QB on a rookie deal, an arm for the future, and someone who could replace Tannehill this season should Tannehill have a setback in his recovery.

  80. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Tannehill had nothing to do with the performance of this team this year but some how he is still part of the problem. Yes 8-5 last year was horrible – 1-4 followed by 7-1. I don’t get it.

All I hear is build through the draft, then when we do it’s time to hit rest every 2 years because we don’t like that we’re not great. Wow!!!

  81. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

By the rule book, Jesse James did NOT make a catch on the TD. Period. Stop. The end.

    My problem is…

    1) The rule is just ridiculous. It started with the Megatron non-TD in ’10, and fans EVERYWHERE were outraged.
    2) Officials sometimes overlook the rule (ie: they’ve favored the Patsies* on the same kind of plays).
    3) It takes away from the game.
    4) In MY rule book, it’s a TD ALL DAY after breaking the goal line.
    5) It took 5 minutes to determine the call. Apparently, the rule was being debated. And Bob Krap* probably placed a call to Goodell in the interim.

  82. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

It’s very obvious that he didn’t make a football move according to the rule.

he was not capable of warding off defenders. he wasn’t tucking the ball away and he wasn’t taking additional steps, in the process of catching the ball he’s trying to reach it over the goal line the ball hits the ground and he loses control.

it wasn’t a catch plain and simple. if he want’s a touchdown he should make sure he maintains possession, he did not.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

My opinion of a catch is you maintain possession thru-out the procedure, you have to come up with the ball, you can’t lose control when it hits the ground because at that point the ground is aiding you in catching the ball

  85. Agreed, Ken, it isn’t just the Buffalo game where Burke is concerned. It’s the entire year to this point. I didn’t mean to imply, Tim, the Buffalo game was the reason Burke should be fired but it was the icing on the cake. yeah, held Buffalo 3 pts in the 2nd half but the defense has to be able to win games and it also needs to be consistent and this defense has been far from consistent this year.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay fire and replace everyone guy. LOL

      It’s still about players.

      • there’s coaches who can get their players to play at a higher level and there’s coaches who can’t get their players to show up for games on a consistent basis. there’s enough talent on the defensive side of the ball to be better than they are so there’s really no excuse other than Burke is terrible at what he does.

      • well gee Tim, we’re doing so well. aren’t we?

      • Phindog's avatar Phindog says:

Wrong Tim.. Don’t you know that every time we lose a game we need to fire coaches and replace Tannehill despite the fact that these are professional NFL players that say they didn’t do what the coaches asked them to do ? My bad .. It’s all the owners fault.

  86. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yes and some are good and some are not so good. Coaches can’t make okay great. Maybe you can. Apply for the job, other than that, seriously? Not sure where you come from?

  87. Like it or not there’s a set of rules that apply to the Pats and another set that applies to the rest of the league.

If Gronk caught that pass they would say he secured it against his body and the lung to the endzone from his knee constitutes a football move and when the ball broke the plane of the goal line it was a td so it didn’t matter that the ball came loose at the end.

  88. It’s funny how when I said the Jags would be a competitor I got laughed at. Look at them now.

I’ve looked at a lot of tier-2 and 3 QBs, but I’ve not yet delved deep into the upper echelon of QBs. I’m beginning to think it might be wise to draft one early.

I’m intrigued with Mason Rudolph at first glance, but it was only a glance. That’s an NFL arm and he’s got prototypical size, for sure.

      • there’s much to be said about an NFL arm but I’d take a guy who has a bit lesser of an arm and intelligence and maturity off the charts. the two guys I like the best are Rosen if you’re going early and looking for the guy to start soon or Woodside if you’re looking to develop someone into a starter.

Cutler and Tannehill are similar in their production on the field. They just each have different weaknesses and strengths. That’s the whole point with middle of the road, flawed QBs. They’re gonna have their weaknesses. It’s how you exploit their strengths and de-emphasize their faults that matters. If healthy, Tannehill is the better option because he’s younger. And, I guess it’s possible that he may still improve on what will be his 7th season next year. He may not be playing this season, but he should still be learning and improving his off the field skills. He may not be why we lose games, but he’s not why we win them either.
    ****
With Tannehill at QB last year, I think we were scoring about 20-21 points a game. We’re at 18 this year. So, we really aren’t scoring a whole lot less given that we had to install a brand new QB in the preseason, have dealt with major shifts along the OL, have a whole 3 rushing TDs and played a much tougher schedule. Hey, did I just make an excuse? Well fuck.
    ****
They will keep Tannehill, so there’s really no debate. Personally, I think it’s a waste to use a mid round draft pick on a QB unless you’re team is pretty stacked already. The chances they will start for you for years is slim, and we have so many other needs. If they can nab a QB high in the draft somehow: Great. If not, it will be same ole, same ole.

The defense isn’t the reason they lost the Buf game. FGs instead of Tea and 3 INT will prob lose it every time. They stopped them the 2nd half, which to me says that adjustments were made(coaching). The offense couldn’t do shit…..
