Doesn’t that just get you! There is nothing like it….well maybe something…I think its a lot like watching some of the electric runs in the SEC this year. I already talked about Nick Chubb with you but what about his teammate – Sony Michel.
The Positives: Georgia’s other running back might just be the second overall running back selected in the 2018 draft after Barkley. He’s not as big as Chubb – but he’s explosive. At 5’11, 212 pounds the South Florida product ran for 3,613 career rushing yards for the Bulldogs.
Michel’s resume at Georgia was filled with plenty of big runs. He is a former track star and expected to run somewhere around the 4.45 range when he runs at the combine. We will see how he does – but you can see his blazing runs on tape. But more than anything he is quick – really quick! He can stop on a dime, accelerate and change direction faster than he defender causing a lot of defenders to look silly!
Michel also contributed to the passing game at Georgia. He had 64 career catches for 621 yards. So he is a versatile back that will fit really well in Adam Gase’s offense.
The Negatives: Frankly, I don’t see a lot of negatives. The guy can run. He has had a history of injuries from High School to College including a torn ACL, a broken left forearm, and a left knee injury which took him out of the 2017 SEC Championship game. But if you watched the NCAA championship game you saw him at full speed, so it’s nothing to worry about.
He’s also not stellar in pass protection – but honestly you kind of expect some of these elite college rushers to need to work on that in the pros. In College and High School, coaches tend to want the ball in their hands when they are on the field.
If the Dolphins are looking for a power runner to pair with Drake – he is not the guy. But I suspect the Dolphins value versatility more than anything else.
The Alien Dust: I really love this running back. In fact, I pretty much love all the SEC running backs coming out.
A player like Michel, who split carries with Chubb has a lot left to contribute to the NFL. The power tandems in the SEC really should be an asset in the NFL. These guys don’t have a lot of wear and tear on their body.
It also should not go unnoticed that Michel is from Plantation and went to American Heritage High School, which is jus around the corner from Davie.
I wonder if Michel is already a Dolphin fan.

I tried 1000 different ways to represent my belief even going so far as to do the research needed to represent the very specific data that OCRob said that would make Ajayi seem superior to Drake. It didnt do any good, he just brushed it off and moved along with his argument. He constantly berate anything i said that supported opposite to his views telling me his eyeball test, etc were superior to my statistical information and any other argument i made, which i spent a good amount of time and research into finding ways to me more clear with my side of things. i don’t care if a RB bust one up the middle for 60 yards, it’s the consistent gains on first down that we lacked putting us in predictable 2nd and 3rd down situations.

I think Ajayi can be replaced in the draft or FA pretty easily. I like drakes upside more than Ajayi.
I think fix our rush attack we really need to look at our running scheme and the oline.
I would have liked to see them together as plan A1 + A2 with different looks and gotten more than a 4th for Ajayi….but figure if Gase didn’t want him here that was the way it was going to be. Can’t turn “back” the hands of time.
You have to have a better offer than a 4th to get more. I think that’s probably the best he had at the deadline and decided that it was a better move to do it sooner than later. I really doubt he was looking to maximize his trade value as well. If anything that’s the part im most upset by because i definitely would have liked getting more for the trade, as i would with any trade, but there was no market for it.

Two things. 1. Landry wasn’t a first round pick 2. We did not use three picks to get Carroo. We got Minnesota’s 6th and used it to pick Grant and we got Minnesota’s 3rd and used it to pick Carroo and gave up two future draft picks which have less value; our 2017 3rd & 4th. So, the trade in terms of the picks given and pick received was almost even.

Two: With the Bills sitting there at 21 and 22 and the Cardinals sitting there at #15 also looking for a qb here’s a hypo. If the Bills were afraid of missing out on a qb and they offered up the two 1st’s they had to us would you take them?
My answer would be YES. I’d take them regardless of what Buffalo was going to do. If they want to take a chance on one of those rookie qb’s then I let them take it and now I’ve got back to back 1st rd picks I can use to build my team. I can get 2 offensive linemen or 2 defenders or a combination of the two.
Let’s say we decide to part way with Wake for cap reasons; we could take a guy like Lorenzo Carter as a DE and maybe get a LB that we want as well and now we’re building a defense. Or maybe we have a shot at Connor Williams and Will Hernandez. Two upgrades on the offensive line and now we’re building a team.
In addition. we’re up again at #11 in the 2nd rd so not too many guys will be coming off the board between the picks.

Isaiah Wynn is one of my favorites this year. He is still coming in a bit under the radar which is fine by me. He has really good potential even if i feel like a couple of guys are better OC/OG prospects. He can also play OT so his versatility really makes me think he could come in and at least give us backup potential at any spot. I think its in him to win the OG spot in PS, but i feel pretty certain h would be a starter before the end of the year next year. He would also give us someone who could fill in for James if James is unable to start at the beginning of the season or if he gets cleared by the doctors and they decide to cut him.
I hear he has a very good work ethic too. A lot of film study. Like you said, his versatility is also one of his strength. …and he has a mean streak.

Davenport is one of my Senior Bowl watch list guys. On paper and against the opponents he has face he has looked amazing, so i have been waiting to see how he looks against real competition. So far he has looked pretty good according to my buddy, though i haven’t gotten to see any of it myself yet.
Thats the thing with Allen, he can makes some really spectacular throws but he can turn around and make some crappy ones too. Cutler might be a good comparison, as Tim was kinda mentioning the other day. I do think he is at a more coach-able point in his career so he could be like “good Cutler” all the time with the right development, and that would be a pretty amazing QB.
Id also keep Marquis Haynes, DE/OLB Ole Miss, in consideration as a later round pass rush guy, someone we might use, at least to start out with, as a backup to Harris. He offers a pretty similar skill-set to what Harris does, and has a really big upside if we can just develop him. He would be an upgrade over Fede as a backup, especially in pass rushing ability.
He would be very good value late. …definitely like his pass rush ability.
I know everyone is focused on OL as am I, but I would always be looking to upgrade DL too.

So there have been reports of us having interviews with Hawaii S Trayvon Henderson, Purdue LB Ja’Whaun Bentley LSU DT Christian LaCouture, Idaho State OG Skyler Phillips, Western Kentucky QB Mike White, and Murray State CB D’montre Wade.

I dont know anything about Henderson, or Bentley, but LaCouture is a pretty solid DT prospect. He’s like a bigger version of Godchaux. White is a prety decent mid round option for QB, some people seem to really love him and his game, i dont really see a starert in him though. Wade is a small school guy, bigger press corner type player, pretty good ball skills but hasn’t been tested against top opponents. Skyler Phillips is a mid round OG prospect, seems to have pretty good strength, more of a run blocker from what i have seen but no a bad prospect. Definitely dont see him as an acorn, i think he would be legit competition to start and almost certainly would be a guy who could give us better depth than we have right off. What i know bout them is limited, but i think those last few guys are all decent prospects for us.

Ill admit that does make sense. I dont necessarily agree with it, but if they were looking to trade him, then they probably at least have some issues with him that means they aren’t going to bend over to keep him. There was a rumor back when Ajayi was traded that Jarvis was in a similar place with Gase, maybe not quite to the extent that Ajayi was but definitely not eye to eye. Some of the stuff we saw on the sidelines, and having Gase report that wasn’t completely uncommon also kind of plays into it. I still think Gase likes him and his fire, but you may be right he might also think there are easier roads that will cost a loss less than continuing to fight it out with Landry.
The three hotheads, Gase, Ajayi and Landry. Who do you think wins that one? LOL
Gase hasn’t proven anything as a HC but he knows enough that the best player we’ve drafted since JT needs to move on. I call bullshit.

Son, Landry has caught the most passes in his first 4 seasons. Okay, but many other WRs have caught over a 100 passes and even more than Landry’s 112 for a lot more yards and TDs.
But not for us. We have nothing absolutely nothing to fill the giant void he would leave.
In the big scheme of things, more passes to the RBs and bringing in a good TE would replace what he does.
I like Landry the player but I’m not going to make him out to be more than he is.

If you get a team with cap below the league average and they are a contender looking for a guy on offense to help put them over the top and they chase Landry then you’ve got something.
My guess is it’s the first types of teams who chase after Landry and not the 2nd type.

They cut in a little late to the South one-on-ones. I know he was grouped with Cappa, Hearn, and Golson. The only snap I got to see he was pushed back some by Ford from Texas.

Yeah i read it up the board, but thank you for the repost. He is a middling round kind of guy and he is a little smaller than most other prospects, but that can work for center of gravity and leverage advantages so it doesnt bother me much. Doesnt sound like he knows how to set his anchor very well though if he was getting knocked back by Ford.

Leonard i have heard a lot of people say they really like him despite the fact he is a small school product. He also has the right build/skillset for a LB who might have to flex between MLB and OLB. Griffin is the Deion Jones type, sideline to sideline guy who has some ball-skills. Who is it has USF in their backyard? Maybe ya’ll know more about this guy. I know Charlie Strong usually makes coaches up defensive players so to me that’s also an endorsement.

Getting the bun toasting just right is actually more difficult than getting the burger temp right….less time window involved. Man do I miss my old grill.
I like to toast the buns as well but never use butter. Hmmm…
Salted butter and a pinch of Garlic. Can used minced Garlic as well and just caramelize the garlic against the toasting bread, using a pancake pan or flattop griddle. Burger temp is just about pulling the burger slightly before you get it to the temp you want because its going to continue cooking while you dress the burger and then serve it.

This is why I like Senior Bowl week. Not only do you get to see draft prospects go up against each other, but you get to hear a good amount of interviews. With that said, I came away from today’s practices and interviews really liking Davenport and Haynes. …Both interviews were very good.

I think Davenport if he keeps doing well up to the draft could be a day 2 pick very easily. Senior Bowl week is going to be the biggest thing for him because the concern is he hasnt gone against quality players. I think that’s going to be the biggest setup for him, and then combine, if he can come in and show that he can do the drills with proficiency he makes another leap forward.
Heck, they’re saying 1st round already.
the biggest concern for him is the off field stuff. they’ve compared him to Aldon Smith
I still dont see that, but again, a really good Senior Bowl followed by a really good combine i could see it then.
Lou, i think a more recent comparison is Noah Spence. I think he could wind up like Spence and go early second, thats why i dont really see a 1st. The interviewing at the combine probably could flip him back into the first.

Once i get some of my work projects out of the way im going to try to start taking off ever Senior Bowl week, like the whole week and do nothing but go to the practices and as many of the player and press functions i can. As of now i can sometimes make a late practice and i do the meet and greet day, and the game. Its a pretty fun time, id suggest it to any of you that ever want to try it out. There are beaches nearby too and an amusement park now. Mobile has some decent downtown things to do.
That would be cool. I remember you talking about the meet and greets in the past.
I think my family totally takes it for granted. I grill all year round too. It’s not freezing out tonite, but it’s cold, about 38 degrees, which is warmer than most winter nights.

I grilled year round when I was married and actually cooked. When I shoveled, I had to shovel out my grill and a path to it. It was worth it. Used to love to do huge Salmon fillets in Winter with butter/herb sauce. Grill it low and slow. Delicious.

From what I was told, the Dolphins informed teams about the incident while they were shopping him.
Due to the uncertainty, teams were hesitant to pull trigger

Kenny Stills was offered more money from the Philadelphia Eagles but took a hometown discount because of Adam Gase and Stephen Ross.
Landry says no hometown discount and has battled with Gase the past two years.

I think like Ajayi, Landry would also go off script and some of the words I’ve heard used is both players were “hard to reach” especially during the heat of the game.
Sometimes a hometown discount cost a player 100k, sometimes it would cost them several Million. Apples vs. Oranges when it comes to the free agent prospects of those two players.
I highly doubt that. I’ll bet anything that nobody comes close to the numbers being thrown out there for Landry.

Randy – I would imagine you would not only have to shovel a path, but more like a valley between the snow mountains. I also bet it’s hard to keep the grill hot in Minny during the winter. It’s been a cold winter here, lots of temps in the teens, and it takes a lot longer to heat up the grill.

Its definitely not looking good right now. Im trending towards thinking he wont be back with us right now. Im hopeful im wrong but the people reporting this shit are putting such a negative slant on it im beginning to think its more likely he winds up elsewhere.
Just like with anything we will just have to roll with it. It will make my draft strategy change some. This is a weak WR class so if we want to draft a quality replacement we would need to do it pretty early.
Piggy – I wouldn’t hate it if we drafted Josh Allen. Obviously, I would hope we can fix his accuracy problems, and if we drafted him, I would think that’s the plan. We do need to address QB, whether it’s in RD1 or later, but it has to be taken care of.
I would hate it more than when we drafted Tannehill. It’s hard to believe but I really don’t want to see the team waste a 1st on a qb in this draft. If it were Rosen I’d be okay with it but Allen, Mayfield, Rudolph. No way.
