The Wedge Scouting Report: Derrius Guice, LSU

Humans look at me and all they see is the alien technology and the ability to destroy entire galaxies.  Sure I am a successful intergalactic agent and I’ve killed millions of lie forms.  But I covet the really simple things too.

Alien-Greys-Shower-Curtain

Sometimes I don’t want to shoot a destructive cannon at a planet.  Sometimes I don’t want to deprive an entire alien race of their moon.

Sometimes I want the simple things….Sometimes I want to be a maniac!

ManiacWedge

Maniacs do it the simple way – They are scrappy!  Just like the LSU running back Derrius Guice.

Guice1

The Positives:  I have to admit, I fall in love with a prospect every season and this year – Guice is that guy.  This is hands down my favorite player in the 2018 draft.  Guice has it all: speed, power and more specifically determination.  Guice is a determined runner.

Actually Guice runs like a freaking maniac! Fighting for extra yards is a bit of a cliche when describing prospects.  So I will be a little more colorful, Guice doesn’t just fight, he runs like a John Wick fight scene.

Guice2

More Positives:  Guice was a backup to Leonard Fournette in 2016 and he outgained Fournette in 2016.  In 2016 he gained 1387 yards on the ground averaging 7.6 yards per carry to go along with 15 TDs.  He followed that up in 2017 with 1251 yards, 5.3 per carry and 11 TDs.

At 5-11, 218 pounds, he is not the biggest back in this draft but he might be one of the most physical.  But its not just about his fight, Guiice has breakaway speed too.

However, what really jumps out on film (besides his scrappiness) is his balance.  Guice makes cuts with ease barely losing stride and that helps medium runs turn into to big runs.

Guice4

The Negatives:  None.

Hah Hah, just kidding.  I really like this back but everyone has flaws I guess.  Guice may be too aggressive at times – he’s not a patient runner.  But to that end he hits the holes fast and accelerates quickly.

Only 32 career receptions.  But I caution you, he isn’t bad in the passing game, LSU just runs a lot.  Certainly he needs work in the passing game – but I would not call receiving a weakness.

Guice5

The Alien Dust:  He’s got a very sad story.  His father was murdered when he was 5 years old and grew up in a pretty tough part of Baton Rouge.  Guice tells people that he has something to prove to everyone.

I really think that attitude shows in his running style.  Guice has the kind of attitude we need to bring into Miami.  He reminds me of the qualities in Landry and Ajayi that propelled us to the postseason in 2016

I also think his name lends itself to some pretty good nicknames:  Miami Guice; or if we re-sign Landry we can call the duo Guice and Juice.

Guice3

The Alien Weapon of Destruction that best compares to Guice is simple, nothing to fancy but VERY LETHAL.  Its the Maniac’s Chef Knife!

Guice Knife

Dolphins go 2-7 after trade. Ajayi wins Super Bowl. But at least they made example out of him!

Dumb tweet. Yes Ajayi won the SB. LOL

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Barry is spot on. Ajayi was traded because Gase channeled his inner Philbin (godlike complex) and the Dolphins still flopped which is the point Barry is making. The joke is on Gase who hasn’t proven shit other than being the defacto OC for Manning during a record setting season (Manning audibles to whatever he wants). Manning gave high praises to Gase some will say but Rodgers did the same for Philbin.

TO REPEAT, “I TOLD YOU SO!”
Jay Ajayi has a Super Bowl ring because he now has a coach who knows how to rotate three runners and keep all 3 happy (unlike Miami’s coach).

    Give Foles the MVP!
    ————–
And Pedersen out coached “BELICHEAT!” Pats 5-5 record in Super Bowls doesn’t look so impressive now, does it? That’s 5-5 with 2 GIFTS from Seattle and Atlanta!

Should be a very interesting off season!

Jay Ajayi has a super bowl ring because he was traded to the best team in the NFC. Nothing more…..jeez

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

LOL… it’s unreal. He wasn’t even the focus at RB in the big spot. Some Dolfans like to pour salt in their own wounds. LOL

The Eagles were a very good team and had a great run. Congrats!!!!

    • herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

      I agree.

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

NOTHING MORE?? Pedersen being a better coach than Gase doesn’t count? ONE of the many reasons why Philly is the best team in the NFC is better quality depth, both at RB and QB. Could the Dolphins, in your wildest dreams, won a Super Bowl with OUR 2nd string QB and with Gase as Head Coach?

  8. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    LOL @ y’all! 😆

I think some are having FUN at the expense of the Ajayi HATERS!!! 😀

Of COURSE Ajayi didn’t win the Super Bowl for the Eagles! 🙂

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

There you go again with the labels hater or homer. How about some Dolfans can’t get over Ajayi. He was a piece for Philly, nothing more. He’s not even the top RB on the team. Algalor or Ertz would be MVP over him. Let it fuckin go!!!

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Ya ought to see #PhinsTwitter… they are either PRAISING Jay Ajayi or CRUCIFYING him right now! It’s nearly as bad as the TANNEHOMERS vs the TANNEHATERS!!! 😀

Foles’ value is super high right now. He could effect the draft if some team looks to make a trade for him.

    ————-
But being Wentz may not be back until mid-late this season, would it be wise to trade Foles? I understand what your saying about Foles’ stock right now, but he only costs the Eagles $7.6M next season.

  16. Listen to the guys on the Philly team. “give glory to God”. you hear that from so many of them and Nick Foles almost gave up football and was going to be a pastor at a church rather than continue to pursue his football career. I’m sure he loves to play the game but he said he would be happy doing either and I don’t think it comes down to what Philly could get for him as much as it depends on what Foles wants to do and I truly believe he’d be just as happy being a backup to Wentz in Philly than having a shot somewhere else because he’s home.

    ————–
I was replying to myself, not to your post (see above). Most of the nonsense I’m seeing is occurring on Twitter.

For what it’s worth, I can’t believe that ANY Dolphins fan would root AGAINST Ajayi this evening. I mean, don’t we ALL want the Patsies* to just go away after all of their cheating over the years?

Ajayi + this evening = KILL THE PATSIES*!!! I don’t understand the over-the-top disdain for Ajayi this evening… AND the over-the-top (such as my man Barry Jackson’s tweet I posted above) PRO-AJAYI tweets this evening.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I rooted for the Eagles and had no ill-will towards Ajayi. I’m just tired of Dolfans ranking on our team like we traded Barry Sanders and he’s the reason the Eagles won it all. It’s silly/

Serious question, do you notice it looks like Ajayi slips on every run even if he scampers for 6-8 yards? He’s losing his balance all the time. What is going on there?

Ajayi was as important to the Eagles in this game as Senorise Perry was to the Dolphins all season. I totally rooted against Ajayi tonight, just to snuff out all the nonsensical talk about how we traded away a franchise RB, and in turn, our season went down the drain. He’s not great, he was an afterthought in this game. The thing that fuels my Ajayi hate is the pro-Ajayi and anti-Dolphins sentiment. If that’s too difficult to see, I just spelled it out.

    Fuck Ajayi – He’s a Philadelphia Eagle
Fuck Derrick Henry – He’s a Tennessee Titan

If you’re not on my team, I’m not a fan. That’s how it works.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      LOL

I don’t get the I’m a fan and anti-fan simultaneously either. Everything is connected to the Dolphins. Should have hired him, drafted him, signed him…etc. The Eagles won. Good for Ajayi too. Okay, that’s it. We’re Dolfans or maybe not all the time. WTF?!!!

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It’s like fans get off seeing our team look bad. I can’t grasp that, it’s some form of masochism I guess. I just want to move on from it, and hopefully, the pick we that we got for him turns out to be a great player that helps OUR team.

  21. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

BTW – I wanted us to draft Brandon Graham! lol

It’s true, but it took a long time for his career to get going with Philly, but that play was sweet!

  22. I don’t give a shit if the guy is on my team or another one. I’m a huge fan of Wentz, Foles and Ajayi and I’m thrilled for all three of them that they’re SB Champs. Foles deserves it.

  23. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Lou – Was that you wearing the headband and the headphones? 🙂

  24. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

By the way, no way do I draft a LB 1st rd. Did you guys see both the Eagles and Pats cover Gronk and Ertz with LBs? No! They used safeties. Stop dreaming about cover LBs, they don’t exist with the exception of 2-3 sometimes. We’re not getting that guy as a rook either. How about we get the TE so we can do that to the other team. LOL

  25. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Goodnight all – GO EAGLES! Patriots-slayers!

  26. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – YES on finally getting our own TE! I’ll be almost as happy as Lou is about Foles and Ajayi. Almost . . .

  27. all I know is if you still think Tannehill is a better quarterback than Nick Foles then you are in denial. and that’s a fact jack!!

  28. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay season is over. Offseason begins.

  29. Tim,
I can care less about the LB thing for covering TE’s. We need guys who can tackle and we need guys who can get to the ball quickly. Our LB’s haven’t shown they are capable of doing that on a consistent basis.

Yes, we have a couple of new guys in Anthony and McMillan and need to see what they can do for us but it doesn’t mean you can’t be aggressive and take a guy if he’s the best player at the position in the draft.

If we were going DE and considering the kid from UTSA I think there’s a huge drop off between he and Chubb. I’d actually rather we move up to get Chubb than go in that direction.

  30. If the Phins don’t win the SB this season with Tannehill it’s probably never going to happen. I doubt he starts for the team after this season and I don’t see them extending him beyond next season. So, one way or another, whether we draft a qb this year to be his successor next season or whatever we’re moving on from him. JMHO.

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

If QB play is the reason sure. There has to be somebody waiting in the wings tho……

What I liked about the SB, and I’m not sure how many noticed it, but there were so few penalties. They basically let them play. They also didn’t screw with the calls, which really made the game enjoyable. As a fan, when you watch a game, and you feel like the outcome is being changed by the officiating, it’s a real turnoff. None of that happened last night. No PI penalties, it was enjoyable to watch. And yeah, Collinsworthless must have said about 1000 times that He’s just not sure if Ertz made that catch, despite the fact that he took THREE STEPS after catching the football and then dove for the end zone. It’s like Collinsworthless was rooting for there to be controversy. It was making me very angry.

That’s good to hear. Maybe if they do this more consistently, I’ll start watching more games again. Also, getting rid of that dumbass catch/no-catch rule will help a great deal too.

For the Ajayi haters (I’m not one BTW), he did piss me off last night cause he did really well in pass pro. I saw him pick up and completely NAIL players on a blitz a few times. Something he didn’t do for us. I did see what frustrated Gase about him though. On 2 of his 9 carries he immediately tried to jump to the outside where he gained minimal yardage on plays designed to run up the middle only to have the hole open up where he should have went where he would have gotten 8-10 yards. He is a freaking beast with the ball though.

What is a “football move” that is what needs to be nailed down.

  52. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Mike – I’m not an Ajayi hater, I;m a hater of the notion that Ajayi was our season, and it was such a terrible trade that crippled our team. Ajayi wasn’t even the 3rd or 4th or maybe 5th most important skill position player for the Eagles last night. They didn’t ride him to the SB or in the SB, they used him as a complimentary piece. That’s what he was for the Eagles. He may have been more for us, but he wasn’t happy here unless he was, and that’s why he’s gone.

  53. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    ____

It has to do with helping to determine an incomplete pass or a fumble should a WR get hit at the same time or shortly after they “catch” it. There’s a grace period of time for defenses to get the ball out and so they need to show full possession of it. I’m like you in that I’m still baffled how Collingsworth could even go on that commentary about whether it was a catch or not. I nearly woke my kids. lol. It was a classic case of catch and football move.

  59. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Kendricks for the Eagles is probably a good example of what Smith can be for us

Not that the defense showed up last night
But most of the season the Eagles has a very good defense

  60. rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

It’s true the defense didn’t show up last night for either team and it seems to happen more and more each season in the NFL. …but defense is still important over a course of a season. It’s no accident that Jacksonville, Minnesota, NO, and Philly were in the playoffs. Even NE’s scoring defense was very good for a long stretch of the season.

  61. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

SB – I still think the football move leaves too much for interpretation. If a receiver makes a catch, has the football in his hands, or in any way possessing it with 2 feet down, it should be a catch. If he loses it after getting hit, it’s a fumble. I’d rather them fight over who recovered the fumble as opposed to whether he caught the damn ball in the first place. If you have a consistent definition of a catch in ALL circumstances, not different ones in the middle of the field, or on the sidelines, or in the end zone, or going to the ground, it would help game play. Obviously, if a receiver is going down to make a catch, possession instead of 2 feet would be subbed by any part of the body hitting the turf, elbow, knee, butt, shoulder, head, whatever.

  62. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

For the life of me, I can not figure out how someone as ignorant as myself can call the catch rulings, under the current rule, nearly 100% of the time while the rest of the world seems to struggle. It’s really simple, if you are going to the ground to catch it (meaning you can’t make the catch without falling down) you have to demonstrate control (note: this does not mean the ball can’t move in your hands) of the ball until you basically stand up.

If you are not going to the ground to make a catch (note: 3 steps with the 3rd being a deliberate dive into the endzone is NOT going to the ground to make a catch) you merely need to control the ball long enough to establish yourself as a runner.

Once you are a runner, the ball merely needs to cross the goal line.

How it is that I can get this right almost everytime and agree with the referee calls, while professionals like Collingsworth (who IS obviously a bit of a pats fan boy, but whom I respect nonetheless) scratch their head along with the rest of the population…is totally beyond me.

    Lol….”I give up!”

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      It wasn’t confusing last night

In the case of the Jessie James catch
He was going to the ground
So some one had to make an arbitrary ruling on whether he demonstrated control

But on the Errz catch he wasn’t and then dove
So they made the right call and they did not have to get into whether he demonostarted control

I personally think James had control too
But I don’t know why collinsworth was saying what he was – bc it’s not the same analysis

      • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

He had control, but he was definitely going to the ground in the act of making the catch. When the ball hit the ground it escaped his grip rendering it incomplete IMO.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

Also, and I think you were making this point: The sole difference in these two plays is that Ertz did not have to go to the ground to make the catch, in fact, if the endzone was 10 yards further away he likely would’ve continued to run with the ball until he was tackled. So you’re right, Collinsworth missed this important piece in his analysis.

  63. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

Also, while berating our staff and players is a favorite pastime around here of some, the fact Ajayi got a superbowl ring has absolutely nothing to do with this team. It’s a coincidence, nothing more. I’m happy for him and the Eagles, and I don’t have to belittle our team or coaches to feel that way.

  64. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

It’s not just about a number of steps that a receiver takes with the football, it’s about the number of steps he takes after controlling the football. In theory a receiver could take 5 steps, each one falling a little more then the one before until he finally loses control and fall to the ground, and he’s never demonstrated a football move. In this scenario the receiver MUST control the ball all the way to the ground and basically until he is ready to get up to have it ruled a catch. See Dez Bryant.

  65. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Mike, a lot of those plays happen bang bang on the field so it’s tough to make that call right away. I’m pretty sure it was to help the humans on the field to get a definite signal of when the catch was fully made to make that distinction.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

While that may be true, it’s the interpretation that seems to be up for grabs every single time. If they had to go to replay, they would be so much quicker if all they had to was see if he the receiver caught the ball with 2 feet in, or a body part down. Wouldn’t you agree with that? When they do it now, there seem to be a 100 different parameters and way too much interpretation that come into play. I don’t wan’t anyone making a decision, it’s either YES or NO. There shouldn’t be any maybe.

While I’m carpetbombing the blog with all my posts for the week, I’ll add: the call that went against the Lions years ago with Calvin Johnson vs the Bears was a bad call IMO. He demonstrated control all the way through the process and didn’t drop it until he was trying to get up off the ground. Ironically this was the first call that had the world up in arms about the new catch rule. I admit, this could go either way, but I think the officials got this one wrong, and usually they don’t.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Well, it’s a funny thing Phelon, when you LOVE players on other teams, especially ones that you may have scouted and liked before the draft. Like Lou is ecstatic with Foles, “his boy”, if the Dolphins won because of Tannehill, Lou could never call Tannehill “his boy”, because he doesn’t think Tannehill is any good. That’s when your scouting gets in the way of enjoying your own team.

    • I wouldn’t say I berate the team. I criticise as I see it and all teams have fans who do it. Especially when you’re losing. We changed a bunch of coaches AGAIN. I don’t think there’s a team in the league that changes coaches as much as Miami

  68. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Piggy – That play with Jesse James would be a TD with my rules. Time to end different catch rules for different situations, they should ALL be the same rules.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

Not by mine. He was falling to make the catch and the ball popped loose from his grip when it hit the ground. Think of it this way. “going to the ground to make a catch” can be seen as “diving to make a catch” by the letter of the rule. If he was diving to make that catch and the ball popped loose (I’m assuming you’ve seen the far pylon angle of the catch to see it come loose) like that it’s an incomplete by any version of the catch rule.

  69. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t remember there being so many issues with what a catch is say 10 or so years ago. Now it’s an issue every week.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

Because analysts like Collinsworth are telling the world that it’s an issue. All these calls we’re talking about adhere to the rule as written. That’s what has me perplexed,: Why is it not an issue with me how they are calling it, yet the analysts and by way of extension, the football watching public just can’t figure it out.l

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The only thing I remember being looked at was if a WR was in bounds or not or if they used the ground to trap it. Now it’s the ball moving, football moves etc. Keep it simple.

    Mike,
You asked why they added the football move and I gave the answer. I’m not endorsing it or against it at this point.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I gotcha SB – I just don’t see a reason to over complicate it. It’s the kind of thing that gets fans mad, when things are left to interpretation. Fans know what they see, and when a player catches a ball, it’s ridiculous to come up with reasons why he didn’t.

Lou, you’re not as good as you think. That’s the real problem here. If you had a job with any NFL or NCAA team to do what you think you’re so good at, you’d have a body of work for people to nitpick, but you cherry pick players you did like who succeed, and players you didn’t who struggle and hold that up like you’re some sort of talented scout. You’re not talented, and you’re not a scout.

I’m sorry if that’s blunt, but you have no problem saying bombastic or trollish shit to get a reaction, so I have no problem calling it like I see it.

I’m talking about the rules I would like to see in place, 2 feet, or body part hit the turf with possession and it’s a catch. James caught the pass, it’s when he lunged to the goal line, and his hands hit the ground, the ball came loose. By my rules, he already made the catch, so the once he crosses the plane of the goal line, it’s a TD. If we were going by the current rules in place, you’re right, he didn’t complete the catch when going to the ground, because you still have to maintain possession the entire act of hitting the ground.

  79. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

Sup Ken, good to see you too. You too Al.

Mike E. I hear ya. I just think that the rule takes out more high variance/game changing fluke stuff like when a player is going to the ground to make a catch then the ground busts it loose and a defender picks it up and runs for a TD in the other direction. I feel a ruling of incomplete is more true to the spirit of what actually transpired in the game then a Fumble return for a TD.

But I get it. I don’t have too much of an opinion one way or the other on the current vs. old rules, but I think it’s not that hard to understand the current rules which seems to be the biggest reason people site to change them, ie: It’s too hard to know whats a catch and what’s not.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

Keeping me busy. We’re getting more fermenters soon which means we’ll start distribution in the LA market this year. East coast is a ways off. When you start crossing state lines with beer distribution gets very complicated. We want to take care of our home market first and then grow into other markets. I can always send you some beer personally, you have my email I think, feel free to reach out.

  80. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

Tim, on your reply above. I guess my take is that it’s pretty simple as is, but the Collinsworths of the world are convincing everyone that it’s so confusing.

If you’re going to the ground, you have to control it all the way through until you’re getting up. That’s pretty damn simple for me.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I always feel like as long as you have the ball and it didn’t touch the ground and you still have it when touched down, it’s a catch. I don’t think just because it moved or rolled that should negate the catch. That to me is part of the issue.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

I get ya, and at risk of admitting this is an area where it’s not so simple, the first catch disputed yesterday fit your description. The ball did move, but that doesn’t mean he lost control. Simply it moving or rolling while still in the receivers possession doesn’t deem it incomplete. He has to lose control, which, is subjective, but the old catch rules are subjective on that front too.

I really got sick of seeing plays like that where the ball pops up and defenses winning games by returning it for a TD.

But here’s what I’d do if I was the NFL:

Ask the question: Is it confusing for most fans?

If the answer is yes, then you either simplify the ruling criteria for them, or you change it so something that’s easier for them to digest. If most fans feel like you and Mike then you change it. If most fans feel like me that analysts are overexplaining and complicating it, you just re-word it to make it more clear and succinct.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Jahn, I think it’s more about inconsistency than the rule itself. It didn’t seem so complicated in the past.

I think Brady has looked very thin for 2 seasons now. It probably has to do with that diet he has been on. He looks frail out there to me, even though he hasn’t had a major injuries. …so what do I know. Lol.

  83. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I think it’s interesting how quickly things change. Only a couple years ago people were saying how important defense is to winning the Super Bowl when Denver was kicking ass. Now, we have a SB with 80 points and folks think defense isn’t as important. I’m not responding or commenting on folks here. I was having this same talk with people I was watching the game with last night too. Most of whom are Vikings fans whose really good defense got stomped by Philly.
    ***
I was amazed at how well NE OL held up last night. Brady was getting the ball out quick, but I thought Philly’s DL would get a few more sacks. Brady was off last night. He rarely misses guys the way he did repeatedly last night.
    ***
I still want to build a top end defense because I do believe a good defense travels well and is more consistent than offense can be. The problem is our offense needs to get a lot better. We’re still hanging around 21ish points a game, and you aren’t gonna win much with that scoring output.

  85. Jahn,
My question for you is “how would you know?” Seriously. How would you know the difference? Have you ever been a scout? Have you ever done anything like that for a living? If not, then your opinion really doesn’t matter because that’s all it is. Opinion.

  86. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I tend to agree with Jahn
the rules are not so complicated and the media is making a mountain out of a molehill

you can’t just reduce a catch to one foot vs two feet

I don’t think technology helps either
People slow it down from a ton of angles and then it does the rounds on social media

  87. Instead of people being upset with me because they think I’d rather be right than have the team or a player from the team succeed they should be frustrated with the team and the team management, ownership, coaching.

Don’t aim your anger and frustration at me because you’re not happy with the team and how they have performed. I call it as I see it and if that ruffles some feathers then grow a pair.

But, again, if you are frustrated, angry, hurt or whatever because the team isn’t making the playoffs or winning games then direct all that at the team. I’m not the one responsible for any of it.

  88. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’ll tell ya why the Eagles didn’t end up with more pressures on Lady*… it’s because he’s got the “John Beck timer” in his head. He consistently gets the ball out in under 2.2 seconds, barring traffic in the secondary.

The way to defeat this? Play JAM-BALL at the LOS. That’s how we beat them this past season… Matt Burke FINALLY allowed our drafted MAN CBs to play man-to-man most of the game. This allowed our DF7 to get after Lady*, as a result.

The Pats are going to score. You’re not going to stop it. Everyone knows that. The Jags brought a lot of pressure early in their game and then their defense had nothing left late in the game when they needed it.

So, I think Philly wanted to pace themselves knowing it would be a long game.

Fewest points allowed to the Patsies*, 2017

    Bucs: 19
    Phins: 20
    Chargers: 21

I’d go back to the tape of these 3 games and see what happened. Of course, we already know why we had success against them.

  92. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    lou,
I don’t think so. Philly has lived all season on their DL, seven man rotation. They don’t lay back. They bring it every play, switch in fresh guys and keep bringing it. They were getting to Brady early on in the game but not for sacks. They were hitting him. Strangely enough, if NE’s OL hadn’t held Graham, he probably would have just sacked Brady and not had to swipe at the ball with his one free hand….causing the fumble.

I knew he didn’t play against us, I just wasn’t sure on the other games. Hypothetically speaking if we take away Gronk’s 2 TDs last night, didn’t NE score around 20 points? That just had me thinking how important Gronk is to this offense. …A lot.
