2018 Miami Dolphins – Free Agency – TE’s

TE – The position that has been a vacant hole for so many years.  One oddity, if you weren’t aware, is that Tight End, besides Kicker and Punter is the only skill position that the Dolphins have NEVER invested in a 1st RD pick for.  While I’m not advocating the Dolphins select a TE with the #11 pick, they better make it happen with either the #42 pick, or at the very least, the #73, but preferably the #42 pick.  In the meantime, let’s take a look at who’s available at TE in free agency.  Last week, we looked at WR, this week, it’s the big fellas, the TE’s.

Jimmy Graham 6’7 260  31YO

Jimmy-Graham-Seattle-Seahawks-Tight-End

A TE can’t really replace Jarvis Landry, or can he?  This year, in SEA, in his walk year of free agency, Graham’s stats more resembles Jarvis Landry’s than at any other point of his career.  Graham reeled in 10 TD’s this year, his highest total since ’14 (He had 16 TD’s in ’13).  Here’s where it even more closely resembles Landry, 57 receptions for 520 yards, for a 9.1 YPR average, the first time in Graham’s career below double digits.  Is the big guy slowing down? Eh, probably a little bit, but SEA just didn’t have a great year this year, the run game was a colossal bust.  FA Eddie Lacy was a huge disappointment, and the bevy of RB’s behind him were awful, so it all fell on Russell Wilson, who managed to have a phenomenal year, despite the run game woes.

Graham is 31, and will be going into his 9th season.  He’s played most games every season, and isn’t really an injury prone player.  He’s one of the biggest red zone threats in the game, and if you compare him to what we’ve had here the last decade or so, he’s ALL WORLD!  Spotrac has Graham’s market value at $6.7M, and I’m going to say right now, I think they’re low on that.  Think of it this way Dolphins fans, if we do lose Landry, which you all know I will hate, Graham would definitely help this team recover from that loss.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins 6’6 262  25YO

usatsi_10249896-e1507494197650

ASJ had a resurrection of his career last season with the rival New York Jets.  I know pretty well, I had to pick him up in FF in 2 leagues after I lost my TE to injury.  After disappearing from the NFL landscape during 2 forgettable seasons with the Tampa Bay Bucs, the former 2nd RD pick was cut in the middle of his 3rd season after his 2nd DUI arrest since 2013.  He got serious about his life, slimmed down 15 lbs, got his mind and body focused on football, and had a nice comeback season.  It wasn’t outstanding, but 2 TD’s were overturned by replay, one against the Patriots (Of course!), and one against Seattle. ASJ finished with 50 catches for 357 yards and 3 TD’s.  Not eye popping, but he showed a lot of promise after being out of football for a while.  A highly touted prospect, ASJ seems to be on the right track, and I’d take a look at him for sure.  Spotrac projects his market value at $4.1M, which is a bargain compared to Julius Thomas.

************************************************************************************

Benjamin Watson  6’3  255  37YO

22_watson_news

Yes, Watson is older than Gase.  Not really, but it’s close.  It would have to be a short contract, but joking aside, Watson has had 2 very productive seasons his last 2 years, one for the Ravens, the other 2 years ago with the Saints.  Players don’t usually get better after 35, but Watson has had his 2 best years of his career.  Watson caught 61 passes for 521 yards and 4 TD’s.  He’s a smart veteran player with a good work ethic, and looks to be in fantastic physical shape.  My thinking would be to sign Watson, but also draft a TE early, and let things happen as they will.  At worst, if the rookie struggles, you have a veteran TE who can fill the spot, and also mentor the young TE.  Seems logical, especially at the right price, which should be around $2M per.

*************************************************************************************

Virgil Green  6’3 248   29YO

usa-today-8215938.0

Yeah, I know, it’s slim pickin’s out there folks.  Sure, 7 years ago in the 2011 NFL Draft, both M13 and I were all about Virgil Green, but in 2018, after 7 seasons in the NFL, Green is not a savior.  He’s more of a role player, and probably a 2nd TE, which is why I’ll be discussing Anthony Fasano shortly.  back to Green, he started all 16 games last season for the Broncos, but had very little on his resume as such.  Green finished with 14 receptions for 191 yards and 1 TD.  That’s a nice 13.6 YPR, but it’s such a small body of work, it’s hard to get excited about it.  He’s an athletic player, definitely undersized at 6’3, but part of the mystique of Green is he played college ball at Nevada, with a certain controversial QB. Ahhh, now you remember who Virgil Green is!  Virgil excelled at the combine, running a 4.64, jumped out of the park with a 42.5″ vertical and a 130″ broad jump, a 6.90 cone and 11.63 60 YD shuttle all showed great athleticism and explosiveness, but it just hasn’t translated to the NFL.  It happens.

************************************************************************************

Anthony Fasano  6’4 255  33YO

Miami Dolphins vs Houston Texans

We all know Anthony Fasano well, Gigi’s Italian Stallion who came back home last season after a 4 year hiatus.  Always a fan favorite. Fasano has that old school grit, and will even make a nice catch here and there when called on.  he’s a great in line blocker, but he’s a 2nd TE, not a #1 guy.  This seems to be the theme in this year’s free agency, once you get past top 2 or 3.  No reason to post his stats, but I will anyway, 12 catches for 107 yards and 1 TD.  The stats don’t do Fasano justice, because he’s a great teammate, as I mentioned, a great blocker, and a fan favorite, so his 12 catches don’t portray his story fairly.

*************************************************************************************

Trey Burton  6’3 228  26YO

usa-trey-burton-eagles-rams

Burton is an undersized, very undersized TE.  He’s one of those tweeners, who BTW, is benefiting hugely by by being on a SB winning team, and being the #2 to one of the best pass catching TE’s in football, Zach Ertz, along with the complete arsenal of weapons such as Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor, Torrey Smith, LeGarrette Blount, Jay Ajayi, etc . . . Burton caught 23 passes for 248 yards and 5 TD’s.  I don’t think any NFL team will be looking at Burton as their #1 starting TE, yet for some odd reason, Spotrac has him valued at $7M per season.   Burton caught 23 passes for 248 yards and 5 TD’s.  As far as I’m concerned, I’d take that $7M and give it to Landry to keep in aqua and orange, but that’s just me.  he would have to be a complimentary player, like a slot receiving TE, so forget $7M, maybe at half that, I’d consider him, maybe.

**********************************************************************************

Ed Dickson  6’4 244  30YO

ed-dickson-100817-usnews-getty-ftr_u7oainqtn37z1jlzinolv5h6c

Dickson has had a decent career with both the Ravens and Panthers.  This past season, when starter Greg Olsen went down with a broken leg, Dickson got more of a chance, yet still finished with pedestrian numbers, 30 receptions 437 yards and 1 TD.  he had a nice 14.6 YPR, but 1 TD as a starter for 12 games is disappointing.  Maybe it’s the QB in Carolina, who knows?  (LOL!)  Once again, Dickson is not going to be your #1 starting TE, he’s more of a 2nd string guy.

***********************************************************************************

So there’s your 6, oops SEVEN possibilities at TE for us in 2018. I obviously can’t count!  I didn’t forget that Antonio Gates is out there, or Tyler Eifert for that matter.  Gates should finish his career as a Charger, and I think he probably will.   He’s maintained he doesn’t want to retire, he would like to win a SB.  Tyler Eifert eerily reminds me of Jordan Cameron, and I don’t have to remind you how that went down, or how strongly I was against it.   He’s a talented player, maybe better than Jordan Cameron, but believe it or not, not as durable.  Eifert has managed one season with 15 games played, and then in 4 seasons after that, just 24 games.  I wouldn’t even look in his direction, been there, done that. I would have loved to have included former CHI TE Zach Miller, but after that catastrophic leg injury, in which he dislocated his knee, and and actually severed his popliteal artery, and nearly had to have his leg amputated, he may never play football again.  The 33 YO TE desires to play again in the NFL, but he has quite the uphill struggle ahead.  If there’s any TE you feel was wrongly omitted, let me know.

Or we can draft a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round and have a true NFL caliber tandem in 2018

Imagine not going into the 2018 season hoping some one will unseat Damien Williams as the #2…
    ———
BINGO. Wouldn’t that be a great feeling?
That is what i am trying to say. RBs get nicked up all the time. If we lose Drake for 2 games, then we will lose those 2 games and then we miss the playoffs.

Philly and NE had 4 and 5 quality RBs each. They come at you in waves. They are fresh all game.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

And OL, and TE, and LB and a good QB prospect, and a DE… all of that by day 2. LOL

If I’m GM i’m looking to match BPA to OL, TE and QB first 3 rounds. If I can’t, take the BPA and keep looking. I think we need that more than a high round RB. We don’t need that.

Drake lead all RBs in rushing the last 5 games of the season and will be on the 3rd year of his 4th year rookie 3rd round contract. So we find a great value pick and now we need to find another? You can’t upgrade the areas everyone talks about and have excellent depth at every position. It’s NCPMS, the new crop of prospects madness syndrome. LOL

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

It’s the most physical position in the NFL Naples

Imo it makes no sense to depend that much on Drake

  2. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Philly won the SB with a back-up QB,
but they had TWO pro-bowl RBs (Blount and some British guy) and guys like Clement and Kenjon Barner off the bench and Darren Sproles till he got hurt.
Plus they have Wendell Smallwood (a 5th rounder) and Donnel Pumphrey (a 4th rounder) who are both rising young stars (maybe).

That’s how you roll up the yardage and slow down the pass rush and wear out the DTs and keep the Tom Bradys off the field or trying to win a shoot-out.

  3. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

You BETTER build a team worrying about injuries or your “next man up” is a nobody.
That’s what happened to us at OG and ILB and we went 6-10. UDFAs are inadequate.
Cast-offs, bargain signings, and journeymen don’t get you to the playoffs.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s not what I meant. Injuries happen, you don’t worry about them when building the team because you can’t foresee them. You could be stocked at RB and have few injuries and be in good shape, but you didn’t know you were going to lose 3 WRs and 2 LBs. Every team is in the same boat. You can only be so deep at every position.

  4. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

If we finally get our O-Line fixed, we could take an undrafted RB like Priest Holmes or Arian Foster and turn that RB into a star. Now, I DO want to draft a RB at some point, but no earlier than the 4th round for me. And y’all know that kills me to say as much with the man crush I have on Rashaad Penny, who will be going in the 2nd round.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

And once again Drake is looked at like he didn’t show anything last season and isn’t even on the team. I don’t get it.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Don’t look at it that way, man. According to Gase, he wants to run a tandem system. This keeps everybody fresh. Why not have 2 stud RBs?

      • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Gotta see what they do in FA. Williams almost didn’t come back last year. I expect he will this year again, but you never know. Still leaves a spot…..and I’d rather fill it with a rookie than a free agent or anybody else they already have. Don’t want to spend the money and a rookie should be as good, if not better than what they currently have behind the top 2.

What do you think – Drake is going to carry the ball 300 times in 2018

You need a stable of RBs

It has nothing to do with Drake

M13, you talked about turning a UDFA into a star and yes those were two examples I’ve thought about when I mentioned you can find good RBs with UDFAs. But maybe Drake is a star in the making and he showed us why we should think that. His 91-444 last 5 games averages out to be 291-1,421 4.9. Even if it’s not exactly that, what about 250-1,225 4.9? Maybe he is that good.

I’ll say this, he’s one of the fastest players I’ve seen in pads. He can outrun DBs who don’t have an angle. He showed me better stop and go quickness and power than I thought he had. We got to see a bigger workload for him and he delivered. You think maybe he can get better in his 3rd season? 🙂

  7. There’s no reads for Briscoe in his offense. As Mayock is fond of saying, it’s “catch rock and throw”.

  8. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Piggy, I don’t think you’re reading what I say. I said Drake 15/3 which would be 240/48, not counting getting banged up and missing some snaps or a game or two, so the numbers could be lower. It happens. 18 touches per game rush/rec.

He had games of 30, 26 and 22 total touches in a game and was productive.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      He’s never done that much
      Not even in college

240 carries would be 11th in the nfl in 2017

You are putting a lot on Drake’s shoulders

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

He was the featured back the last 5 games and he looked like he could carry the load over that stretch

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think you’re de-valuing him big time. You’re ignoring proving it at the NFL level in favor of new prospects because it’s juicy or Guice. LOL

The short time it was Williams and Drake it looked good. Then it was basically on Drake and he lead all rushers the last 5 games. Do I type than in invisible ink? Can we roll with that until we know otherwise? You want rookies to prove something than when they do it’s not 16 games enough. How about how they finish?

  9. Ken's avatar Ken says:

I want Drake to get 15-20 carries a game. He seems like the kind of guy that can break a big one at anytime. You have to keep giving him the ball and eventually he is going to pop one

  10. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Ken the difference between 5 games and a season at the most physical position in the nfl is pretty huge

I don’t think Drake should be asked to do what he did the last 5 games of the season for 16 games

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Also I think gase was a lot of RBs to work with anyway

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I disagree. He is not really sleight of build. He weighs like 215. He didn’t show any signs of excessive wear and tear when he was used as the featured back. There is no reason to think he can’ be that. You need depth but Williams is good depth. Would another back in the draft hurt? No but I don’t feel like it is an urgent need

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You and I are totally on the same page with RBs.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

It would not hurt in the front end of the draft

I feel that Drake IS a star in the making who’s only going to get better from here on out! HELL YEAH!!!

But the problem is that Gase continues to say that he wants to run by committee. But, he said that last year and just continued to pound the ball with Ajayi all year. We’ll see what happens, but you’ll get zero disagreement from me that Drake is good enough to be a featured back!

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I know what Gase said but his history suggests he will use a featured back. He did it in Chicago and he did it in his first season in Miami with Ajayi

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

100% agreed, Ken. We’ll see what Gase does this year.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Both in a Chicago and Denver, Gase had #2 RB with over 100 carries

He likes using a lot of backs especially bc he needs them in the passing game

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yes, Gase doesn’t want a 25-30 bell cow back. He maybe wants to split it 15/10/5 not counting QB and WR rushes. That might be the goal, but let’s get to 30 rushes per game consistently first and go from there. 🙂

I like Damien… and it seems Damien loves Gase and Gase loves Damien. I wouldn’t mind seeing him come back, but I think he’s just about reached his ceiling: he’ll be 26 in April, 4 seasons in the NFL, and 3.6 YPC.

I think Damien is lethal as a receiver, and that brings value to him as a 3rd-down back: he has 6 career receiving TDs compared to 3 career rushing TDs.

He certainly doesn’t suck, but I would say Damien would be the third head of the ‘hydra’ we may be working to get to: Drake, ________, and then Damien. JMO

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Damien has value because he’s a core STs player and RB involved in the game plan. I think he’s earned some stripes and is worthy of a 2 year $6M contract – maybe even guarantee most of it. Gase knows what he’s getting in him and he can play 20 offense and 20 ST’s snaps per game. These are the types of players every great team has. Role players who do a lot of jobs and do them well. They’re not stars. They’re the Mookie Wilson’s’ of the world. They are totally underrated. 😉

Based on need if the choice is between getting an RB or a TE to help the offense I would go TE. Of course the choice is not that simple because you have to factor in BPA

    • It’s a tough call because once you get beyond Barkley it’s pretty close

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Well you have 5 picks through round 4 unless there are any trades

      I have OL/RB/QB/TE/LB as my 5

They can probably take a 2nd OL or a DE and disrupt that 5 but I tend to think those are the 5
And then it’s just about talent on the board

So if there is a RB in the 2nd that should have went in the 1st
And the TEs look a good one will last until round 3

Do you pass on the RB?

      I don’t

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I think OL and LB are bigger needs. If the elite talent at those positions are not going to be there in roun 3 I pass on RB

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        They are bigger needs

TE is a bigger need to

But the talent on the board has to be a factor

    Prof Lou,

Nyheim Hines, huh? Not too shabby, but I think he’s quicker than he is fast. I see he runs a 4.5 40, he’s a proficient receiver (89 career receptions), and he’s agile enough to have seen action at both kick and punt returns (2 TDs and 1 TD, respectively). Not a bad build at 5’8″, 197, either.

I wish he had afterburners like Dri Archer, but he’s not too shabby. I like the double-spin move he performed on the video. If he lasts to the 4th round, I’d be somewhat interested… but I’d have to put Royce Freeman above him. JMO

That’s a good list. There’s Wadley, Adams from Notre Dame, and even Scarbrough.
Some say Walton from the U (7.6 y/rush and 13 y/catch) and Williams (5.7 y/rush and 12.2 y/catch) from LSU are high quality sleepers.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Most of that list will be off the board before round 3 is up

    • I just can’t justify taking a rb when we have no viable receiving threat at the tight end position and there is plenty of TE’s in this draft who we should be able to choose from. We’ll see how the draft plays out and who is there when we pick but I just don’t see the rb’s from the 2nd rd on being the better prospect of the two

  19. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Serious illness, including liver damage, has occurred even with short-term use of normal doses. The use of kava for as little as one to three months has resulted in the need for liver transplants, and even death. Early symptoms of liver damage include yellowed eyes and skin (jaundice), fatigue, and dark urine.—webmd

Kava has been associated with severe, rapidly progressive Parkinson’s disease. It has caused erratic driving resulting in DUI citations. It may cause extrapyramidal side effects (involuntary movements). Liver toxicity may occur in kava users after a single occasion of alcohol consumption.— https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/is-kava-safe/

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Odds are if you draft a RB earlier you get a better RB

It’s no different than any other position

Everyone wants to play the Arian Foster lottery – but most FA RBs aren’t as successful as Foster was

CJ Anderson went undrafted and was in the top 10 last year – but that’s its. The other guy is Jordan howard (a 5th rounder) and for the record I thought Howard should have went much higher that year

The cowboys struggled without Ezekiel Elliot and they have a good OL.

People are just flat out devaluing the position

The real problem with the RB position isn’t that you can do just as well late in the draft as early. That just doesn’t stand up. The problem with drafting RBs is they don’t have long careers

But the best RBs in the nfl are usually high picks

  47. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

what does the expression “let people straw man what you were saying” mean?

I’m not against drafting a RB, I just see bigger needs in other areas. I’d rather build the OL, specifically…and I feel TE is a much greater need than RB, but all I really care about is that they draft good players. We need plenty of help on offense, so just get good players.

Maybe slow down having never been out in that position before

Is it worth taking that risk?

If you add another RB. Maybe Drake is the starter and carries 250 times in 18. But if he can’t do that (and he never has) you have another option

In fact, you might get a player that can be the feature back and Drake can focus on 100 carries in a season and special teams

Kava is a root. It makes your lips and face kinda numb and has a numbing affect on the nervous system in general. It’s culturally very entrenched in many southern hemisphere oceanic cultures. In Micronesia (which is a “confederated states” nation) on the main island of Pohnepei, the island is essentially run by Fiefdoms. It is said that if you wrong the king of another tribe, and you seek forgiveness, you are required to beg forgiveness over shared Kava (that you bring). If you do not bring Kava, the King will not forgive your wrong, and likely sentence you to a worse fate.

I had it when I visited Micronesia. The local girl who shared it with us got dressed in a formal flowered dress and the ceremony of it kind of took me back. It was a cool experience, but if you want to know the truth…yeah…I’m a beer guy.

2015 it was 2: Chris Ivory and Murray

2014 it was 3: Forsett, Foster (the holy grail of delusions that this happens a lot) and Miller again

      It’s undeniably not the norm

Ajayi was a 5th round pick.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

That’s 9 guys (with a couple appearing twice) in four years

You know what really undermines the argument that these late rounders will be successful as long as the OL is fine?

The fact that 3 of them: Miller, Ajayi & Foster played for us and our shorty OL

Of course only 2 of those seasons were with our OL

But point is – the talent at RB is a difference maker

  52. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Piggy, I’m not against drafting a RB, I’ve said we should and likely will. But I wouldn’t until the 3rd unless he’s clearly BPA. If I’m GM I’m trying to see if I can match BPA to OL and TE in the first two rounds. Not saying it will be that way, but if it is, those are the two positions I target first.

  53. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    Piggy hates Drake. LOL

  54. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Piggy, 250 carries is only 15.6 per game in a 16 game season. You’re making it out to be more than it is.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

The point is you need 2 good backs

      Drake is 1

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Agreed. Nobody is saying not to have two. Gase prefers a committee so we’re going to have two. Who the other guy is we don’t know yet.

It could end up being a 200/175 split or something like that. Then you have some carries from the 3rd back, QB, WRs and a few from Gray. I hope we finish with close to 30 rushes per game. That means we’re having success on the ground, controlling the flow of the game, TOP, sustaining longer drives, setting up play-action and hopefully scoring a decent amount of points.

There’s been plenty of misinformation about vitamin supplements over the years like “you can overdose if you take too much” but it’s never happened. There’s never been a documented instance where anyone has overdosed on vitamins.

So I’m just wondering if there were actually any true instances where Kava did, in fact, result in those issues or if this was all bs put out there by the pharma industry to discredit it.

In Europe and the US, kava became popular in the 1990s, with the spread of several medicinal products that contained kava extract to treat anxiety. And that’s when problems with kava began. At the end of the ’90s, several people in Germany and Switzerland had to undergo liver transplants after taking medications that contained kava. In the US, one case in 2000 involved a 14-year-old girl who was hospitalized with acute hepatitis after using two kava products for one to four months. She eventually got a liver transplant and survived.–

Some health effects are no secret. Kava can cause dry, itchy, and scaly skin if it’s consumed in large quantities. It’s also linked to nausea and weight loss. (Drinking too much kava is also associated with impotence and loss of sex drive.)

Miami not only finished with the lowest yards-before-contact number in 2017, but the Dolphins also managed to post the lowest number in the PFF era. The offensive line generated essentially no space for their running backs, which makes Kenyan Drake’s performance down the stretch that much more impressive. Drake finished the season with the league’s highest yards after contact per attempt with a massive 4.29 yards. In fact, that’s the highest total in the PFF era, and Drake is the only back to top 4.00 yards after contact per attempt with at least 25 percent of his team’s carries. Drake is likely to open the year as the Dolphins’ lead back, and he’s one of the best bets to break out at the running back position in 2018. — same source

    Naples,

THANK YOU for posting some of the hazards of taking kava… I appreciate it, my friend.

I did lots of research on it before I ever tried it and there seems to be a LOT of disagreement out there. Proponents say that it’s absolutely harmless over both the short and long-term, while opponents say that it can really mess ya up over both the short and long-term. This doesn’t add up to me and my scientific mind.

As with anything, moderation is probably the key and I’m monitoring myself to be sure I’m not experiencing ANY harmful side effects. I’ve read that if you drink kava daily, take a two week break after drinking it for 3 months.

The one thing that really stuck out to me in my research: do NOT mix kava drinking with alcohol drinking. I presume that THAT is where one can get into liver/pancreatic trouble: it would be akin to drinking while on acetaminophen. One of the fads of ‘millennials’ is to start drinking at the club and then finish up at a kava bar… BAD IDEA. Drink one or the other, NOT BOTH.

I’ll continue to be VERY careful with my kava consumption. And again… THANK YOU for posting the hazards! 🙂

Daniels is a versatile kid who plays tough. He’s a little on the small side, but another 10 pounds and he’ll be okay at C. He’s not great, but I definitely could see him being a solid starter once he sharpens up his technique. The biggest issue with him in a zone scheme is that he’s not a great movement guy….but not terrible. I’m a little pissed he’s leaving early because we’re not deep at Center.

Right now, i’d say he’s a 3rd round guy, but that usually means he is ranked as a second rounder. Lol

He’s definitely an athletic kid, but he’s not a standout athlete. I’ve heard he’s smart and knows football. Definitely a solid prospect but not outstanding, to me. I’ll always consider drafting Iowa OL. They are coached right.

He can do that in college and still win, but that isn’t gonna happen in the pros. He’ll be pushed around like a rag doll. Technical issue that can be fixed, but he hasn’t yet.

The asst. DB coach doesn’t decide the scheme. LOL

He also played for 4 different NFL teams. Do you think he only knows one way of doing things? I think you’re making too much out of this one, bro.

I’m just sayin’… I know he isn’t going to run Saban’s system… nor does he have the power… but still don’t like the hire. Oh well. No biggie, really.

    M13,
He moves pretty good for a big kid. I haven’t really been able to see him perform against speed rushes, so I don’t know how he’d play at RT. He gets out on screens and pulls really well though, so it may be possible. He’s a good athlete.

Funny trivial tidbit; Ragnow played HS ball at a town an hour from where I live. I dated a gal a few years back from his hometown.

I do NOT want to trade down this year… take the BPA @ R1P11.

    HOWEVER… there’s only ONE (1!) scenario by which I might trade down…

IF all of Quenton Nelson, Tremaine Edmunds, and Roquan Smith are off the board… and IF we have no interest in taking a QB @ R1P11… trade down just enough to get an additional 2nd rounder while landing BILLY PRICE in the 1st round (projected mid-late 1st).

By the way… this is GAMBLING… I do NOT recommend doing this!

Lol…I knew you would like that. But seriously we need to be able to pound the ball and dominate time of possession. Just like every other team in the NFL wants to LOL

    That’s cool!

Funny trivial tidbit from me: both Jahri Evans and Henry Hynoski have dated women that I’ve dated.
