The official start day of NFL Free Agency starts today, and yet there were about 1000 players who were already gobbled up, and much to my surprise, the cap poor Dolphins were wheeling and dealing like nobody’s business. I’m not sure I’ll ever understand what the plan is, I was pretty sure we were going to be quiet in FA, and we were out there banging like we had the same amount of cash available as the Jets and Browns. One thing I do know, any thoughts the Dolphins were tearing this thing down and starting a 2-5 year rebuild has been quashed. There’s no question now that we’re in it to win it, but have the moves we’ve made made us better?
We replaced a 25 year old fan favorite WR (Jarvis Landry) with another 25 year old WR (Albert Wilson) who has basically 1/4 of the amount of receptions Landry has. We didn’t want to pay Landry near $16M per year, so we get a good deal on Wilson at $8M per. Hold on, because then we sign 32 year old veteran slot WR Danny Amendola. Huh? He gets a 2 year contract for about $12M, with $8.25M guaranteed. I think this signing pushed the Landry fans over the edge. I get it, we couldn’t spend $15-16M on our own stud, so we replace him with Wilson and Amendola? I can’t get inside information, but obviously Gase was not happy with our WR corps. Forget Landry, I think he’s seriously worried about Parker and Carroo. I think rightfully so, because Parker has yet to give us an elite season. Why did Landry routinely have 100 receptions, and what should be our best WR (Parker) about half that? Then you look at the guy we had to have in the 2016 draft and used 3 picks to get Leonte Carroo, who has given us 10 receptions in 2 seasons. If this doesn’t explain why we now have 2 WR’s instead of one, nothing will. Just so you all understand, i thought maybe we would address this in the draft, but I guess Gase wanted more proven commodities, and I get that. We’ll have to wrap Amendola in the same bubble wrap we used for Pouncey in the preseason.
OK, now onto the big boys, the defensive tackles, because it sure seems like we’re gonna need one with the departure of Ndamukong Suh. Here’s the 5 I think may help us, that is, if we have any money left to spend . . .
Dontari Poe 6’3 346 27YO

How do you replace a big man? With an even bigger man! Poe is huge at 346 lbs, and no, he’s not at the same level of Suh. No one we sign in FA will be, but that’s not the point. Not to insult anyone here, but say we bring in Poe at about $7M per year, he’s going to give us more than a 1/3 of the production of Suh, for a 1/3 of the price. Poe was the 11th pick in the 2012 NFL draft, and played 5 seasons with the Chiefs. He went to ATL last season on a 1YR deal, and is now a free agent. He’s a big DT that clogs the middle, and in his best season in 2014 brought down opposing QB’s 6 times. He;s not a real pass rush threat, more of a run stopper, and that works for me. I think Poe would be ideal, but there’s a lot of other teams out there flush with cash, so we’ll see what happens.
******************************************************************************
Bennie Logan 6’2 309 28YO

I actually had Logan as one of guys I thought we should target last season, and now, like Poe, he’s also available because he only signed a 1 YR deal with the Chiefs. Logan played the first 4 years of his career in Philadelphia, and he’s a guy that makes an awful lot of tackles. Like Poe, he’s not a real pass rush threat, but he’s steady and can wrap up well, which makes him valuable to me. Like Poe, he signed an $8M contract last year, and I expect he would be in the same neighborhood as Poe, and if Spotrac is accurate, they have Poe at $5.7M, which I inflated to $7M, and figure the same for Logan.
********************************************************************************
Clinton McDonald 6’1 290 31YO

McDonald played in 14 games last season , starting 3 for the Tampa Bay Bucs, and managed to tally 5 sacks as part of the DL rotation. At this stage of his career, he wouldn’t be a starter, but what we really need is either a starter, or a solid rotational guy, and I think McDonald would give us the latter. McDonald has played the last 4 years with the Bucs, and in 2016, started 12 games, so he’s capable.
*********************************************************************************
Nick Fairley 6’5 291

Fairley missed the entire 2017 season with a heart condition. He was released by the Saints with an NFI designation due to that condition. Apparently, Fairley feels he’s ready to return to the NFL, and would obviously need to pass a physical in order to be eligible to play. The former 1st RD pick in 2011 (13th overall), Fairley actually had his best season in 2016, logging 6.5 sacks for the Saints. Always a pass rushing threat, he played 4 seasons for Detroit before signing with the Rams, and then the Saints. Obviously, it’s an odd situation with him having the heart issue, but if he’s cleared, he would be a pass rushing threat from the interior we could certainly use.
***********************************************************************************
Tom Johnson 6’3 295 33YO

Johnson has obviously been around, but Johnson played in all 16 games last season for the Vikes starting 15. He was fairly productive notching 32 tackles and 2 sacks. It would be nice to put another stud in the lineup, but a solid guy in the rotation would suffice too. I would think he would be a 1 year contract, and that’s fine, because we have some young guys that are up and coming, Godchaux especially, but Vincent Taylor also flashed, so this is just a stop gap.
*************************************************************************************
Kyle Williams, Chris Baker and Star Lotuleilei all signed contracts already, so this is what’s left. It’s not especially pretty once you get past Poe, but some of these guys are certainly serviceable. We may also dragft a DT early if the draft falls that way, like Da’Ron Payne or Vita Vea. Second RD option for me at least could be Harrison Phillips. If there are any DT’s you feel I should have mentioned, gimme a shout.

Chad Henne looks out in mindless fascination, like a caveman witnessing his first snow

Anytime a team goes to a player to restructure their contract, it means some sort of deal that benefits the team in some way….otherwise they wouldn’t do it. It’s just a way to manipulate the money, but teams never go to a guy and ask them to restructure to give the player a better deal that hurts the team. Teams always have the leverage because they can just cut guys.
MikeE,
Quinn’s medical issues supposedly not being an issue anymore.
Ah, gotcha. We’ll find out in a few months whether that’s true or not, and I really freaking hope he’s fine
I think Parker is on his last legs here in MIA, and I won’t be surprised if we cut Carroo at some point this season. Still, that doesn’t mean you waaaaaaay overpay for Jarvis Landry. he’s benefiting from having a team with insane amounts of cap space, he wouldn’t have got that contract anywhere else. Plus, He’s a lot like his Giants buddy OBJ, and I can do without that “ME” personality.
That’s why he’s in CLE, they were the only team willing to pay him and give up some compensation. Who knows if they even sign him long-term.
My point is that Landry should have been done a long time ago it shouldn’t have been a now decision Landry already knew they didn’t really want him so ask for a lot. I knew after 2 seasons I wanted him to be a fin for life.
We’ll live to regret letting him get away.
They tried to trade him last season, they weren’t getting what they wanted. There’s no question they were shopping him, so the fact that it happened now was just how it worked out, the end of the line.
that guy Owusu Francis was pretty damn good last season, it seems they brought him back, I hope he makes the roster, hopefully we can get something for Parker or Caroo and trade them
Parker they are hoping on. We’ll see what happens, but Carroo’s future does not seem a bright one. Right now he is the 6th wideout on a team that will only suit up five….and they need Grant to return kicks.
It would seem Gase likes Tannehill, with Gases QB credentials you have to trust that Tanny’s the man
Likes?
It’s love, true love ❤️
🙂
Just my .02 worth, but I don’t see the comparison between Mayfield and Wilson at all. Wilson is a much smoother scrambler. He’s actually a threat as a runner. Mayfield isn’t. He’s just an okay scrambler, and he does it when he shouldn’t. Wilson actually has a great arm…with plenty of strength. His arm is better than Mayfield’s. Mayfield has a so-so arm. It’s fine but nothing special. Is it just because they are both smallish and can run some? I don’t get it.
100% correct
ORob,
It’s also in Gase’s coaching best interest to do everything he can to pimp his QB because Gase’s reputation has been built on his “QB guru” status. Why would he do anything but rave about his QB and praise him constantly? If people buy it, it perpetuates his reputation and makes him a a inch man. Smart.
That’s a double edged sword…..In the process of Pimping him Tanny better live up to the hype or Gases QB Guru status may go down the drain,
so there must be some validity behind Gases actions.
Gase believes in Tannehill and those who don’t like RT can’t understand it. Most of the time when Gase talks about him it’s when reporters question Tannehill that makes Gase get annoyed. He has also complemented RT’s work ethic and physical ability to rehab. He supports the guy and thinks he can play better. We’ll see.
ORob,
Nah, he can always just turn around and blame the player….paint him as a malcontent. See Ajayi, Landry and Suh. Lol
Lol
The difference is he didn’t restructure those guys, Tannehill will have 13 mil in dead money next year 2019, so it looks as if he’ll be here thru 2019.
if he doesn’t win they both may be gone by the end of 2019 and that will not look good on Gases resume.

ORob,
Didn’t they just cut Suh and lose a bunch of dead money…whatever that is?
yes but they deferred it as a june 1 cut, they will save 17 mil this year vs paying suh 26mil, they cant use the 17 mil until june 1 so the plan to use it on the draft class and carry the rest into the year, they will also suffer a 13 mil dead money hit on Suh in 2019 start of the league year.
So really it ends up being a negative 1 mil cap hit to start next year out. 17mil – 5mil for the rookie class = 12 mil carried over, -13 mil dead cap hit next year = 1mil over the cap to start next year unless we dont carry over even more from this year than just his 17.

Regardles of the should we shouldnt we have kept him, i think we all are locked pretty solidly on those positions, my biggest beef right now is the inept strategies they did with their moves.
You dont put yourself in a over the cap situation and then try to make trades, it doesn’t give you any leverage especially with a “got to be below cap” looming. Now, if you cleared up enough cap that you have plenty of room then try to make the trade, fine, that makes sense, you maintain your leverage on the compensation, but the other way around its pretty much a here is what i’m offering take it or leave it situation. Also, you could have got a 2019 3rd almost guaranteed if ya just let him hit FA, you can trade conditionally a 3rd in 2019 for a packaged with picks from this year to do things in this draft, why not let him hit FA and just take your comp pick? You still get rid of him, you still get something for him, so they just dont come off as though through well.
With the Suh thing, sure they know you are going to cut him, you let that shit dangle out there so damn early that you lost any leverage from that, but you still have the leverage of “get him before anyone else has a shot at him” and they dont because they want to June 1st designate him, which does us 0 good in the long run. Im past the players leaving, i dont approve of either of them, but what bothers me most is the trade and the cut really didn’t help our team nearly as much as moves with the same outcome could have.
Reply
Son,
Take the 10 million they pissed away on Cutler last season and give it to Landry as part of a big signing bonus, then make the next 3-4 years of his contract a cap friendly deal. If you make a good offer to these guys while they are stuck in a rookie deal instead of blowing it on overpriced FAs that have questionable value you end up with good contracts and good players.
Cutler wasnt a FA pickup, he was an emergency street FA signing. We didnt plan on icking up Cutler, its not exactly the same thing.
Randy,
Let’s just say it would come as a very pleasant surprise if Quinn even comes close to playing up to his contract and draft picks we gave up to get him. Stupid move. I’ve liked some of the other moves though.
You can look at Tanny as 2019 13 mil dead cap hit or you could look at him as a 2019 13.5mil cap savings…. when worrying about the cap hit, the dead money really means nothing, the savings is where its at. If you save enough cutting him he will be cut no matter the dead money.
Tim,
Landry “loved” Ajayi and Landry too. Lol

I know he likes Tannehill. That’s fine, but he’s never gonna come out and say negative things about him and you know it….regardless of what he thinks…and he shouldn’t. You never say bad things about teammates…ever. I’ve reconciled myself to the idea he’ll be playing here this season.
I never said he has said negative things about him. I’m just pointing out what I see. If you don’t like a player but the coach believes in him, you’re always going to question the coach. If you like the player, you’re going to have a better opinion about the coach. That’s what I see. Results are all that matters. Let’s hope for the best.
drg,
I have been a fan of Quinn as a player earlier in his career. He was a legitimate sack guy. Now, who knows? I think he should be around $6M/year. Do ya think they’ll be able to get his salary reduced substantially?
Old men and their i used to buy a coke for a nickle economics….grandpa a DE even with Quinn’s injury history, but with his production numbers and age is at least a 8mil per guy even at a bargain. His salary isnt far off a guy of his stature. Whether we should have been interested in him given our cap at the time we made the deal, etc, that’s a pretty arguable point, but his salary isnt all that bloated for pass rush standards these days. Id be much more comfortable with him at 8 but maybe we can still get him to restructure and extend possibly. Also please dont take the old guy comments personally, i know you cant help it.
🙂
in a league year the teams WR corps catches so many passes, i’m not sure what the number is but when you have a slot rec catching the majority of them….something’s wrong with that picture, the other WR’s are not producing for some reason.
That said it kinda kills Landry’s reception total, he’s the only one they can get a pass to, if that’s the case any good slot rec would have his numbers.
another thing is speed, i had seen Landry line up wide and go deep and he couldn’t get open, he’s just too slow and can not create separation, he is covered with ease on the outside.
he has good intangibles as well like toughness, blocking, he’s a good slot rec but in no way you can pay him 15 mil per!
I totally agree with dumping Landry
Jesus, that cap shit makes my 12 brain cells hurt.

That may be the case if you plan to keep the player but Gase has said negative things in the past about his players, starting with Ajayi, he then ripped Landry publicly for being tossed in the Buffalo game and didn’t mention Drake in the presser even though he got tossed as well. he also referred to Suh as an “Individualist” saying the only thing Suh cares about is Suh.
Sonny – I think you’ll find this pretty humorous . . .
I was on twitter this morning, and I posted the link to today’s article. Then I responded to a tweet about Suh, saying retweet if you want the Dolphins to re-sign Suh, so I replied to the tweet instead saying “can I UNTweet if I’m glad that we finally got rid of that ridiculous contract, which we never should have given him”.
2 minutes later, another guy responds with a copy of your article from our blog “Welcome Mr. Suh” “Ndominant Suh” and then as twitter blows up, it blew up, making me look like a flip-flopped. I laughed it off, explained that was my buddy John’s article, not mine, but people are still liking that response, it’s over 75 likes. 🙂
Lol the twitter-verse is reading me holy crap

I bet Lou jumped in and called me a douchebag
I think Wilson and Mayfield are similar, i mean i dont think they are as similar as some of the pundits say, but they are definitely similar in the context of how they play. Both are gamers, they put everything into every play and try to extend every play. They both are QB’s with the ability to scramble out of situations and use their legs to get them opportunities to throw they wouldn’t have had were they more stationary players.
They both are very confident players, though Wilson level of confidence stops at an appropriate point and Mayfields rolls over that line into cocky, which can be dangerous. I think Mayfield is accurate, probably as much so as Wilson, but Wilson was a much more refined player when he entered the NFL than Mayfield is right now. I think Mayfield is “capable” of becoming as good or better than Wilson, but he also has the potential to fall short of Wilson too. He is more of a gamble to me than Wilson was coming out of college but probably has more upside than i felt Wilson had too.
Id be OK with the selection of Mayfiled, even with a trade up, but id be more excited if we signed Allen. Mayfield and Rosen to me are about on the same level.
this is what we really need!!!

So a projected OL before the draft is:
LT Tunsil
LG Sitton*
C Pouncey
RG Larsen/Davis
RT James
Larsen recently said he’d prefer to play RG. Brendel was tendered and Steen was not allowing him to become a FA. Asiata is going to have to improve a lot to jump up the depth chart and then we have the other UDFA tackles. I think we need to draft two OL, one early and one mid rd. We need one of them to push the projected starters and it would be nice if the other upgraded the depth.
Life today is somehow brighter. D and Orob back together on the board again.

With all the restructuring
anyone know how much cap room we have?
$14.72 but Tannehill is here forever
I think we might draft a QB
What the Dolphins are going to miss most without realizing it will be Landry’s blocking (as Son pointed out above.) Wish they could have made that work.

Mathieau and Adams together on stej would be about as solid as you could get at Safety. I hope the Cowboys step up here.
They already have Maye as their other safety. Mathieau is a versatile DB, nickel, dime, blitzer. Bowles likes him from his days as DC in ARZ. Good player whoever gets him.
Me and Home were the only ones who wanted us to draft Mathieau
I would not necessarily advertise that fact

SWEET Hayes was a very good player for us before he got hurt.
He can set the edge as a DE on situational run downs and move inside on the rush in sub packages. I see more rotation on the DL happening this year. Not sure we need to look DT early in the draft although we could. We might target a mid round run stop type guy who isn’t much of a pass rusher, but plays a key role in run situations. We have other guys who can rush the QB.
We also have the two 5th & 6th round picks from last year that were playing pretty well by the end of last year as well as Phillips who plays hot and cold. Making a great play every once in a while
Yeah I think we hit on Godchaux and Taylor as rotational DTs. Godchaux more starter as a 2 down guy with Taylor more sub package – he has a knack for batting down balls and getting some pressure on the QB. Phillips is Phillips. Big man who can move – looks great and disappears as well. But he’s still a solid young DT.
I think I made up HMHIS Son, but “there has never been an original thought” so I cannot say for sure.

I think we only have four. Godshow, Taylor, Phillips and Gabe Wright? We need more / better. Unless I’m missing some?

The Dolphins wanted to go into the draft with a complete team meaning a competitive lineup. I think we have that almost. I would say the most glaring voids other than upgrades at this time are backup QB, TE, K and both DT and RB depth. This thought is with us signing Sitton at LG. I think a guy like him brings stability to the OL.
I don’t think anyone posted it
This is why I asked about how many DEs we have
Between Wake, Harris, Branch, Quinn and Hayes – that’s a 5 man rotation
Tim and I both did Piggy come lately
What? What did you just suggest you and Tim did to me?
on paper a pretty good one, but we need to draft another young guy.
You know, it may be that actual football people are not as enamored with the QB class as the media and fans.
Sure seems that way.
Correct. They each have their own certain annoying flaw. There is no “Andrew Luck.”
These days there rarely is. What is available this year is no better or worse than recent years. The oddity this year has been a much deeper FA QB pool and people are wising up to the idea the new crops of QBs come from systems that somewhat set back their development a year or two.
Teams are getting rental QBs to give them time to get their new ones going. I think though they need to instead just learn to accept a learn on the job year and start them right off. Wentz and Goff both suffered through a bad rookie year but hit the ground running this year. Trubisky, mahones, Watson all seem poised to do the same
The class has a lot of flaws but I do think we might have 4 QBs in the first 12 picks
So the fans and the media aren’t wrong
Top QBs are always going to be top of the top round. There is always going to be a team with a need there
Piggy, go here and click on pos., it will at least give you some guys you might not be aware of.

Hearing we are looking into trading for mychal Kendricks, but I might be late to this party too lol
I haven’t heard that yet
That would be a great addition
Maybe GM Chris Grier has a calming influence on Tannenbaum. Since the Suh signing, and not counting Tannehill’s extension because we all see what starting QBs get paid, even marginal ones, what outside FA have we signed since 2016 to a $40+M contact?
I hope by “calming influence” you mean uncut morphine and he sticks Tannebaum with a needle right before the draft begins
Seriously! Hyperbole is ruling the day. Look at the facts and match salary to production and be honest. Be honest that we have built through the draft even as far back as 2010. We have made our offseason trades and FA moves like every other team has and it’s been crazy the last few days throughout the league. Somehow everything we do is fucked up and we’re in cap hell. Well it’s not and we’re not. Oh my, presto!!! How did that happen?
The moves we’ve made in the last couple days aren’t so bad as a whole
But I have a philosophical difference in letting good players go
He’s also costing me a lot of $ on jerseys I can’t use
Just buy RT17 jersey and get it over with.
I have a Tannehill Jersey and that’s why I know he’s not safe
In my neighborhood I sometimes see this homeless guy who is wearing a Dolphins Culpepper Jersey – it’s pretty beat up
One assumption is he liked the colors and picked it up at he Salvation Army after it was donated by a Dolfan who gave it away after very little use
But what if that homeless guy really is a Dolphin fan. What if he bought that jersey when we signed Culpepper and it broke him emotionally and spiritually. What if when culpepper scored 5 TDS against us he quit his job and stopped bathing?
What if I will be like that in 10 years, wandering the streets of nyc with a Landry colorrush jersey?
Things to oink about 🐷
Lol.
I ran into a guy wearing Phins hat. Turns out he just liked the color. Wtf. I’ll never understand wearing anybody else’s laundry.
Because it’s easy to keep him unless we get a trade offer during FA or the draft, Parker gets year 4 to prove what he is. It’s a shame. He’s got the size, speed and skill, but not durable = reliable.
Donna Summer sung about it. LOL
I know M13 will like this. 😉
Cam Wake has a status with the Miami Dolphins that is his decision to leave. He’s earned that status and until he can’t get 7 sacks anymore, he’s still Wake!!!! That kind of stuff transcends generations with triumphant stories of desire to overcome. Cam Wake is a great story and Dolphin. He’s on my team until he tells me he’s done.
Hey thanks and I get it. Best wishes! LOL

Cody Parkey’s contract was four years, $15 million with $9 miliion guaranteed. Bless his heart.
So today was just finalizing what we already knew and resigned a couple of our own? So exciting!
Land LG Josh Sitton and maybe we simmer down from here in FA heading into the draft.
Rd 1 Pick 11 (11)
Rd 2 Pick 10 (42)
Rd 3 Pick 9 (73)
Rd 4 Pick 23 (123)
Rd 4 Pick 31 (131)
Rd 6 Pick 9 (209)
Rd 7 Pick 5 (223)
Rd 7 Pick 11 (229)
I’m pretty ok with it. Not excited about Sitton but at least it’s an OL.
Glad they brought Hayes back Now if they can all stay healthy.
But all in all I kinda like the moves so far.
So we cut a DT who’s cap hit was friggin strangling this team and restructured a useless qb to give us more cap space this yr but who’s cap hit BALLOONS!! to $26M each of the next two seasons and we’re happy about it. Wow, what a fucked up way to look at things.
I’m going to be happy watching Foles and Wentz this season. Fuck this team.
buh bye. Enjoy watching your ghey ass man crushes and posting on some other blog
I did not see it reposted on here but Reshad Jones restructured his contract yesterday to free up 6.6 million dollars too.
3 players 30 or older. Young team.
I didn’t mean for this to turn out an ALL offense draft. I just picked the best player available (as per Draftek’s ratings) when they came up.
YOUR TEAM
MIAMI DOLPHINS
YOUR PICKS
1: R1P11QB JOSH ALLEN WYOMING
2: R2P10 G WILL HERNANDEZ UTEP
3: R3P9 TE DALLAS GOEDERT S DAKOTA ST
4: R4P23 TE HAYDEN HURST SOUTH CAROLINA
5: R4P30 RB RASHAAD PENNY SAN DIEGO ST
6: R6P24 FB DIMITRI FLOWERS OKLAHOMA
7: R7P5 K GRIFFIN OAKES INDIANA
8: R7P11 DL MATT ELAM KENTUCKY
Don’t see why Tanny contact restructure is scaring anyone, even those opposed to us keeping him. Next year he still saves 13 mil to cut so if we want out we still get out with significant cap savings.
It’s not the cap hit!
Or the dead money!
It’s the word Tanny that they don’t like! 😉
I get it. Those that wanted to get rid of Tannehill next season now realize that instead of only having a $2M dead cap hit, it’s now $13M, so that makes it more likely that he’s here. If we’ve proven anything this offseason, it’s that we’ll cut anyone no matter how high their cap hit is, so like you said, they shouldn’t be worrying about it. Also, I think the idea is you want your players to do well so you don’t have to cut that them, but that’s another story . . .
Whiners….
Vikings finalize trade for Broncos QB Trevor Siemian.
I am still not sure Denver is looking for a QB in the first round.
I’m pretty sure they are – They had 7, the most representatives at Baker Mayfield’s pro day
Elway personally went to scout Josh Allen at his bowl game
Miami is having dinner with Mayfield.
Rock
Enjoy watching your 6-10 losers again this year with your piece of shit quarterback. Better hope the D creates a lot of turnovers with that fucking loser behind center
Don’t be sad, Lou.
Well when the team puts it’s hopes on offense in the hands of a backup qb how can you not be. Was bad enough paying him $19m but now he’s getting $26m next year.
Anyone know exactly how much cap space we have available now?
25 mil according to sport trac
suh wont come off the books until june 1

Thanks Rob – That means we should have enough to bring Sitton to the team. One less huge need going into the draft.
i hope we’re able to pull that off, i hear Bushrod is coming back also
it seems that Gase has hitched his wagon to Tannehill, this is good because either they perform or they’ll both be run out of town in 2 years
That’s how it works. Win games or find someone who can.
i didn’t see any clear upgrades over Tannehill in FA or the draft with the exception of Drew Brees,
and i’m not buying into Cousins, he’s an overrated at best avg nfl starter
Honey Badger for our much needed Free Safety?
I’ve never liked the guy, he’s an injury risk, and a nut case or was, but he ‘s got game.
We need a FS and a FS that gets INTs.
We could then move TJ up into the box as nickel LB or on running downs or whatever.
He’s going to sign for BIG money. No way we can afford him
He was set to make $11M but the Cards wanted him to take a $5M cut. He refused so they asked him to take a $3M cut. He refused, so he got cut. He is quoted as saying it’s not about the money as it is going to a “culture that loves football.”
hmmm
If we could offer him $8M and some “stay healthy” incentives in future yrs, would he do it? South Beach for a party animal, young coach, a really young upbeat DB room
Do we have enough $$$ to sign Sitton, Mychal Kendricks, and Tyrann Mathieu? That would only leave a PK, and we’d be in great shape to draft all TE, RB, back-up/future starter QB.
If we don’t need to draft much after FA, we have draft capital to move up and get our guy.
best thing about this blog…. during FA it serves as a ‘digital anthology’ of tweets/reports/articles etc. One stop to get all caught up. Thanks to all of you posting updates. 🙂 Much appreciated!
Agreed. Also the riveting commentary. 😉
Looking at it from a needs perspective with Mcdonald and Jones i don’t see any way we sign a high priced safety, we need a RB, TE and OL help
I agree they don’t need a safety, but I don’t think an earlyRB is needed either. Maybe 5th round. Definitely TE and some guards. Probably LB unless they do get Kendrick’s.
Naples – A nice mid RD pick at safety (Free Safety) would be Godwin Igwebuike.
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2018/profiles/godwin-igwebuike?id=2559980
Zierlein thinks he’ll have to play SS, I guess we’ll see
FS FS FS not SS
Draft or FA, he MUST help us with INTs. We really got hurt with that last yr. That and double coverage that means the QB has to go to a next read 75% of the time. That would help us with our low sacks and bad turnover ratio.
Igwebiuke had 7 INT’s in college
great SS but doesn’t cover well but i would not cry if we got him.
Interview would tell them if he is coachable.
If not, then he has a low ceiling.
LOL, the Dolphins didn’t follow Lou’s plan and now he’s bummed out.
I think the Hayes signing would suggest that Quinn isn’t going to be asked to play on rundowns. Thank God
That’s fine with me, limit his reps to passing downs, keep him fresh and healthy hopefully.
You might be seeing some Hayes at DT on passing downs.
Naples – It’s like an excellent CB/S/LB hybrid hitting FA now (HoneyBadger). He could say it’s not about the money, but it’s gonna be about the money, and there are still teams flush with cap money that are going to pay him.
Yeah, he also said his agent told him he would get paid more than his old contract if he hit FA.
