I watched HOF Miami Dolphins Center Dwight Stephenson stroll to the podium. He looked happy. I know why he was so happy, but I didn’t know then. He then uttered the words with the 42nd pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select Mike Gesicki, TE, Penn State. When he said Mike, my heart raced, and then he actually said GEH-Sick-ee, I screamed a a scream of happiness, it’s possible Tim who is about 45 miles away may have heard it. We did what we haven’t been able to do for over a decade since Randy McMichael, we selected a legitimate receiving TE. I’m happy for Brian in NY, his son, and really, I’m happy for Ryan Tannehill and all Dolphins fans, because this is a gamechanger. It’s the secret sauce we’ve been missing for far too long. Gesicki will open up that field for us, because he will be that nightmare that NFL teams struggle most to cover, including our own Dolphins defense. Just his presence on the field will open things up for our RB’s, and our perimeter WR’s. He will command attention, and that will give other players opportunities they haven’t had here. I can’t wait!

What about me boss? In the 3rd RD, The Dolphins selected Ohio State LB Jerome Baker. Baker who is 6’1 229 is a speed player. He’s not a run stopping thumper, but he’s a chase and tackle guy who can also cover pretty well. It will be interesting to see how Baker is used, and not to belabor the point, but where exactly does T.J. McDonald fit in? Seems we keep adding pieces that lessen the need for T.J. with Minkah Fitzpatrick and now LB Jerome Baker. The Dallas Cowboys want a safety , and we just happen to have one, and the Cowboys have pick #116 in the 4th RD, so maybe a deal can made. We could get a DT, RB and maybe a QB, so keep your eye on MTP who has obviously been tied up and must be raring to go, if he’s been untied that is.
So far, we’ve done and excellent job in this draft, and I can’t remember the last time I’ve had the luxury of saying that. Go DOLPHINS!!
JERSEY STRONG!!!

Frickin’ Broncos.
Without a 5th round pick… our two 4ths should possibly cover two of DT, QB, RB, K (?) … did I just type kicker? lol
All make sense, but we have gotten into BPA territory. Same time thinking we might end up with a big old stump of a DT before all is said and done.
Too bad our linebackers could have been Josey and the pussycats
I bet Giants double down on OL
WOW – Guess not. I guess they don’t believe in Davis Webb
We finally made the queue on the tv screen
They go fast on day 3 though.
If that chick in the blue shirt was a teacher, I wanna go back to middle school.
I met a woman named Nettie Johnson. Doesn’t that sound like a brand of men’s underwear?
Colts, Cowboys, and Bengals are biggest threat to take flier on Hurst in the 4th
They just said the first 110 picks were an even split at 55 between O and D
Denver having a pretty good draft as well: Chubb, Sutton, Freeman…
Denver + 9 other guys before we get our pick….
why is OT from Oregon, Crosby, still on the board? Is there an Instagram pic of him with a gas mask?
Lions giving up 91 yards a game since 2011, best in NFL, but where has it gotten them?
Our second pick in this round was originally New England so hopefully he’s someone who terrorizes them for years to come.
We’ll probably trade back to get a 5th RD pick. I won’t be shocked if we do that
Lmao at Sons Nettie Johnson
Da’Shawn Hand…is that like Mike E’s alias?
OK, getting closer, unless we trade it
Should be two guys to welcome in about 25 minutes and then a big old wait.
Hurst will be there if we think its worth a flier.
5’11” get Gesicki matched up on him
Shaquem time
Come on
Here we go
Hurst is going to the Ravens before us
Holy crap we did take Smythe
Hahaha. smythe
Fasano Jr.
wow, doubled down on TE
Smythe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, I called one!
This blog is having an UNCANNY draft LOL. well done gentlemen.
I know right … consensus on here was to take 2 TEs, one a speedy seam threat and the other an inline blocker who still has reliable hands.
Fasano 2.0 which is a good thing
So kinda like Fitz he helps at 2 spots .. OL And TE.
Patriots took a a TE in the 2nd and then another in the 4th in a draft once. Worked out pretty well for them, even if not for one of the TEs.
Yeah they killed it that year ba dum bum
Yeah and it doesn’t look like we drafted a gang banger either
Another pick I love. I noticed him this year when watching Nelson and McGlinchey. …underrated receiver and good blocker. Nicely done.
That one I don’t like!
OL. DT, QB????????????
Biggest need Now? DT?
ND TEs who stay healthy tend to be solid players.
oh yeah, who called Alabama, PSU, and ND their axis of evil lmao. fulfilled.
That’s was me. That’s why I was laughing when they picked Smythe.
What I like about Smythe is he stays with his blocks to the very end of the play and yes he has really good hands as well but only Fasano fast.
Wyo, I don’t think any of the 5 teams ahead of our pick at #131 will take DT OR QB… so we’d still have our pick imo.
DT please. Hurst or Settle.
Can this draft get any better?
Once we take a DT.
There goes home town boy Ito Smith
Oh cool
I’d have preferred Kalen Ballage there but oh well Smythe will be a good thing for us.
If we don’t take Hurst here his red flag may be bigger than we know.
tru dat
Yes, I would like DT this pick
“Smythe is a classic “Y” tight end who carries himself like an offensive lineman. He has the frame, toughness and ability to help do the dirty work as a run blocker for teams in need of toughness at the position. While Smythe can catch what is thrown to him, he’s unlikely to be a targeted pass catcher on the next level. Smythe’s particular talent as a run blocker should create an opportunity to become a solid starter for years to come.”
As a pass catcher he’ll never be covered, so you can slip him out from time to time, like 1st and goal at the 1, from a 2 TE set.
He’ll have 5 catches for the year and get 3 TDs.
But he’ll be on the field this year, maybe 15-25 plays a game depending on the situation, including running the ball to close out the game.
Hurst or Falk.
There goes the NC State tackle
Mayock just loves everybody.
I like that about him.
Hurst, Settle, or Ballage please with this next pick.
Our damn direct TV went out just before our last pick and it’s not even windy or raining. Sucks!
here we go last pick for a loooonnngggg time
Here we go.
There you go Naples
Another good pick
Naples, you at least got Ballage
There you go Naples!!!
What was this dudes 40?
So Naples loves him, what about anyone else?
Balledge?
Can’t we draft a Smith or a Lee????????
Need to get DT, OG, QB with these next picks (not in that order).
I doubt we sniff a QB!
At least not one that can take the starts away from Tanny
I do like the pick though!
Nise job by FO. Almost like they read us 😎 .. or some of your Jr GM Decoder rings are quite well warranted
No complaints so far.
Holy Crap!
Both Pig and ORob should be real happy right now.
They brought in that LSU DT for a visit. Wonder if their plan is to bring him in as an UDFA or draft him late?
OK, I’m now hoping for one of Clemson’s DTs next year. Lol.
They all went back to school or they would’ve been long gone.
oops sorry yeah next year then we’ll do that in the first
Naples, I said next year.
omg
This is the greatest draft I’ve ever seen besides getting Marino.
Yup we’re finally helping ourselves instead of taking flyers on guys
It sure looks damn good right now. If we could have gotten Harrison Phillips in the 3rd, I would have called it near perfect.
4.46 another addition of speed
Alright ill be in Florida in a couple of weeks, cheers
4.46 40 I like it
Scott’s a good receiver!
Every one of our picks will make the 53 pushing out lesser talent.
Phillips can occupy 2 blockers, and we have Hayes to play passing down DT, I hope that’s enough.
I’m hoping too.
Steve, in the Orlando area?
Here’s the take on our new stomper from the most Great Pig.
Son he runs a 4.46 @ 6’1 227 and he catches anything you throw at him.
He should fit in nicely
Elite size, speed, and agility combination. Cuts are dynamic, as is his burst once he touches the football. Has the ability to be a better pro than college player.
Lol….The whiny bunch will have to work really hard to find something to bitch about in this draft no matter what they do from here on out.
And, yes, some of the Jr. GM DeCoder Rings are deserved.
OD is fuming even more about no OL
I liked many others before Ballege but they are all gone so I am good with the pick. Just wonder what the plan is for DT depth.
DT is the only real concern left. Might be drafting Fat Albert in the 6th.
a rookie is certainly less expensive than going after CJ Anderson
Yes sir
His NFL comp is Le’Veon Bell
Wow, and I just saw the highlight reel, so wow wow wubsie
We might be getting some Poona later today………
Panthers traded up
JM: How do you think playing in the Sun Devils’ system helps get you ready for the next level?
Kalen Ballage: I’ve had the opportunity to play in three different offenses over the last three years. For me, I’ve become adjustable to just about anything. Not only me, but my teammates as well, we’ve been able to fit into different offenses while learning different verbiage three years in a row. I think that’s going to help me out at the next level. I’ve already dealt with learning multiple offenses.
Good write up, Mike.
This has been a really good draft .
Ive seen 6’1, 6’2, and 6’3, WTF is his height?
I know …
that is weird.
Settles should be gone by the 6th so I say we should go Poona, OG Adams and QB Ferguson or Benkert in that order to round things out.
He had an 8 TD game
cowboys finally take a TE
Great draft so far all have a good chance at a fair amount of PT. Seems like we’re getting BPA at position of need with a distinct role in mind for each.
Revamping the TE position for sure.
Our next picks: #209, #227, #229
70 picks away… YAWWWWN. gonna get some work done so I can watch A’s beat Astros and Dubs beat Pels tonight back to back 🙂
Ballage highlights
TWICE he has to spin completely around to catch a poorly thrown pass and he does it and still romps for major yardage.
Watch him score off the Wildcat several times. Shades of Ronnie Brown.
I can just see when the smarter than us guys grade this draft down…….will be “but they could’ve gotten a QB.” Or maybe a DT……which is what they were focusing on before the draft and now want to be right. All makes sense to me at least, except maybe Jerome Baker in the third.
Hurts to the Raiders
Hurst
Uh oh, run on DT’s
Hurst to Raiders. Good for them.
Welcome to Las Vegas Mr Hurst
And Griffin to Seattle
With his twin brother
Ballage was clocked at 23 mph, when in full stride, faster than anyone in the NFL except Tyreek Hill, whom he outweighs by 40 pounds.
Ballage looks like he shouldve been a 1st rounder. Still need to see game tape and not just highlights, but what am I missing as far as weaknesses go, Naples?
Some say he couldn’t always find the hole, but he had 3 different OCs in 3 yrs.
That hole might’ve been a bit imaginary to be kind.
His vision looks good to me, but need game tape.
Inconsistent production is what I heard. He might return kicks for us.
From the tapes looks like Ballage doesn’t have a whole lot of shake in him and not much quick burst either. Still looks awesome in the 4th though.
From the interview he’s 6’3 he said.
yeah but guys lie about their height when they’re young and their waistline when they’re old.
An RB shouldn’t, because it’s a negative.
The other negative is he never ran for that many yards in a season, but they used a RB by committee and he split carries.
He only averaged about 160 carries per yr, so he has low mileage on him.
I like that
Keep em fresh
