This was somewhat of a beleaguered group last season. Tony Lippett was out for the season with an achilles injury, and we had to sign veteran CB Alterraun Verner, who played in 15 games for us with 2 starts. Rookie Cordrea Tankersley was pressed into action, and had some good moments and some bad ones, starting and playing in 11 games last season. Only 2 CB’s on the Dolphins current roster played in all 16 games last season, Xavien Howard and Bobby McCain. As far as consistency goes, McCain was our best CB last season. Xavien Howard had a stretch at the end of last season that was All-Pro caliber. There is definitely promise in this group, and one such promising figure is 2017 UDFA Torry McTyer, who has been opening eyes in training camp. Here’s the lowdown on all of our CB’s.
Xavien Howard CB – 6’1 192 – 25YO
“X” ended the season with a flourish. He had all 4 of his INT’s in 2 games, 2 in the Denver game, and 2 against New England, and one against Denver was for a TD. That was his breakout, and although he didn’t get an additional INT, he was playing as close to shutdown corner as you can get. He finished the season with 48 tackles (42 solo), 13 passes defensed, 1 sack, and 4 INT’s (1 for a TD). So we know who one of the starters is, as X will be one of them. If he can continue his strong play from the end of last season, we’re going to have a very strong secondary.
____________________________________________________
Cordrea Tankersley CB – 6’1 200 – 24YO
Our 3rd RD pick in the 2017 NFL Draft (#97), the Clemson product was forced to start 11 games last season due to injuries in the secondary. He was up and down, showing flashes of good play, and then as expected, looking lost at times too. His spot is definitely up for grabs, he has no such “lock” on the spot opposite X. He’s going to have to be more consistent, and also find the football. In 11 games starts, Cordrea had zero INT’s. He did finish with 31 tackles and 7 passes defensed. Competition is coming for that spot, so Cordrea is on notice!
____________________________________________________
Bobby McCain CB – 5’11 192 – 25YO
Good ol’ Bobby McCain had quite the season last year. He was so consistent playing mostly in the slot, that the Dolphins rewarded him with a 4YR/$27M contract. According the depth chart the Dolphins released, he’s opposite Xavien Howard, but I don’t pay much attention to that. Bobby is a slot CB, even with rookie draftee Minkah Fitzpatrick, who does the very same and a lot more, I think McCain will be on the inside almost exclusively this year as always. The 2015 5th RD pick has done well for himself, an excellent draft pick for sure.
___________________________________________________
Tony Lippett CB – 6’3 192 – 26YO
Lippett had a very nice 2016 season, but then missed the entire 2017 season with an achilles injury. Lippett showed great ball skills in coverage, finishing the 2016 season with 68 tackles, (45 solo), 10 passes defensed, and 4 INT’s. The tall, former WR played the ball very well as if he were the intended receiver. It’s a long recovery though, and Lippett left scrimmage the other day with an ankle injury. I’m not sure how much Lippett can contribute this season, but I’m pulling for him. If he can get healthy, I think he can be an impact player, but I’m not sure how much that injury has robbed his speed and cutting ability. Time will tell, and we’ll see if he get himself whole again.
___________________________________________________
Torry McTyer CB – 5’11 188 – 23YO
So far in the 2018 Dolphins training camp, he is the darling of the secondary. The 2017 UDFA who was signed by the Dolphins last May is really showing well early on training camp. The speedy UNLV product played in 7 games last season for Miami, mostly on ST’s. At the moment, he is listed 3rd on the depth chart the Dolphins put out before the preseason. How much does that matter? According to McTyer, it doesn’t. He’s going to keep playing hard, taking nothing for granted, and making the most of his opportunities. Although slightly shorter than most of the other Dolphins CB’s, McTyer has good speed, equal to or better than all of them. We’ll see if Cinderella can continue to shine.
__________________________________________________
Jalen Davis CB – 5’10 185 – 22YO
Davis was an UDFA signed out of Utah St. The former All-American CB was a non invitee to the NFL combine, a snub that reportedly fuels Davis. He showed well at his pro day running a 4.4 40, putting up 11 reps and soaring to a 36″ vertical. The 4 YR starter at Utah St. finished his college career with 11 INT’s, 4 FF, and 4 TD’s. He will have to battle to make the roster.
___________________________________________________
Cornell Armstrong CB – 6’0 185 – 22YO
The Dolphins drafted Armstrong in the 6th RD of the 2018 NFL Draft (#209). A 4 year starter for Southern Mississippi, he finished his career with 5 INT’s, 1 for a TD. Armstrong has had a slow start so far in training camp, and as we all know, he better pick it up, or he will find himself handing in his playbook sooner than later.
___________________________________________________
Taveze Calhoun CB – 6’1 188 – 25YO
Signed originally by the Bears as an UDFA then released, and signed by the Saints. The Saints released him in December of ’17, and the Dolphins signed him to the PS. In January, Miami signed him to a future/reserves contract. Another cornerback from Mississippi, but Mississippi St. in this case, totaled 6 INT’s in 3 years, also forcing 3 fumbles and recovering 1. Another longshot to make the roster, he faces an uphill battle. Tavese (pronounced Tuh-VEZ) had 2 INT’s in practice and a fumble return (60 YDS) for a TD, so don’t count him out quite yet.
___________________________________________________
So that’s where we’re at with the CB’s. I wouldn’t count Tank out of starting opposite X, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if Lippett was on the PUP to start the season. I just have a feeling he might not be ready. I hope McTyer keeps pushing, and pushing hard, that will make Tank earn it if he wins that battle. I also hope X keeps balling, and doesn’t rest on his late year success. I also realize that I haven’t included Minkah Fitzpatrick in this group, because he’s the guy who will be playing everywhere, including both inside and outside in certain situations as a CB. Basically, he’s going to be a matchup guy, so Minkah will be everywhere. Good ol’ Bobby McCain is steady as can be, and I hope he continues in that vein. next up, safeties!

Ballage looks good
Harris is in

So how we doin? We suck or what?
—————————————————
So Fales needs to be our starter, Our kicker sucks. Our defense let the score so fast i was still typing out what i thought about the first drive when i saw the score update that 1 we indeed missed our first FG and they had indeed just scored a TD with Ryan Fitzpatrick at the helm.
Oh and Howard had to give his island back to the people here that gave it to him way to quickly 🙂
Minkah blew that shit UP
So Drake has 3 carries for 16 yards. I assume two 1st down carries for a yard each and one 14 yard gain. lol
1.8
He got 12 on 3rd and 13 then got the first on 4th down
Baker
minkah looking good
lots of new guys on the Dolphins side on both d and offense. They all have to get used to each other and the playbook. New Dts, new LBs, new DBs, new PK, new RB, new WRs, new TEs, new OL, new QBs.
We’ll get better and better as all these guys get used to things.
From the looks of this game we are certainly picking 1st overall next year…..
and if the incredibly ridiculous nature of that post wasnt enough to spell just joking….i am.
that’s what we need on 1st down
Least when the rest of the vets are out it is time to let Minkah play centerfield like he was John Mellencamp.
That would be John Fogerty
Look at me gonna be Centerfield
LOL — my bad or maybe I was talking about Mellencamp’s little league days. 🙂
Old people make such silly references
Drew Morgan was wide open for the first on the Fales wide throw to Gesicki, whom he was staring at the whole time. Probably on orders from Gase.
Minkah looking like a first round draft pick.
Ballage looks really good too.
guess they are saving our starting RB Gore
Gore and Wake are healthy scratches. No problem there.
also Reshad
Not playing tonight and why should he?
under thrown
I thought you couldn’t count bulk yardage on first down….
Miami’s defense disappointed me in the first period. Our run defense looked inept. And Fitzpatrick was the best quarterback in period #1.
NOT exactly the start I was hoping for. But, at least, no one got injured (I HOPE). Tonight’s attendance is the worst I’ve ever seen for an opening home exhibition game. Can’t wait to hear Ross’s explanation for this.
Shit
Well crap, there goes my Fales for starter movement, it ended just as quickly as it began
yikes Ballage looked great but forgot to hold on to the ball.
Tank and Baker looked good on that one.
Forgot the Ball-age
Man Ballage was working on a good night and then blew it all in one major fuck up.
no biggie … learning moment
Minkah be like a LB on that one.
somebody missed that zone.
looks like a knee
feel bad for Hull … on the bubble guy
Yeah he kneededthe game time to prove he deserved to make the cut. Too bad it wasnt McMillan, he is a pro at that shit, first play last year bam…. he didnt fuck around.
So should i be the first to break out the 2019 Mock Drafts?
That’s what you don’t want to see tonight. Hull doesn’t like the pain is horrible though.
bad DL play again … kept saying this was my biggest fear or our biggest weakness. Even during the draft I kept saying draft a run stuffing DT. Plus Godchaux got a penalty already. He had too many last year.
Maybe we’ll get it figured out. Hankins still out there?
Baker Mayfield 2/5 47 yards despite living in a van down by tha river….
LOL
Osweiler just not 100% accurate
he doesnt look that bad, seems hes the best so far
I give up. I can’t find this fucking game anywhere. ahhh 😦
Drink a bottle of NyQuil and try to rub one out before you pass out and you will find that challenge more gratifying than watching this game.
Oswieller sucks how do they not see that?
I’m on ‘gamecast’ watching stupid little arrows move on a cartoon field.
Lol
streaming on miami dolphin website
Rhino FaceTime me and I’ll point my phone at the tv
Well there goes my Osweiler for starter movement…. guess Tannehill it is……
RHINO, count your blessings. This game is beginning to look like a cluster fuck. And, remember, this is against the consensus LAST PLACE TEAM (the Bucs) in their division. Somewhere Jay Ajayi is laughing as he kisses his Super Bowl ring!
Baker looks good.
If you do some acid i bet you could turn those little arrows on the cartoon field into a real game, like probably one you were at and had a beer and a brat. If you look to the guy sitting at the stadium to your left thats just me, i got bored with the cartoon field too.
baker looks good very fast
OK because the first qtr of pre-season will dictate our season.. You guys crac me up 🖕😆
Of course, i mean if you dont see anythign you want to in 3 plays its time to blow the shit up.
Too funny D.. 🍺

Dont fall for that, thats not where he points the phone.
Hey now
Today is Smythe’s birthday
1.8 on first
🙂
Bookman : saw yer post up the page , what ya come up with ?? I will be reading , or shoot me an email drp667@hotmail.com
Now D will bomb you with dick pics
No just one really ginormous one.
So not yours ?? 🤡😎
He’s “d” not “D”
Caroo is slow as shit off the snap.
Ford a big gainer
Boom Perry what a drive for him
go snoring perry
senorice
Only have Browns game 😕 followed by 9ers , wife will be happy… both these qbs are throwing while moving backwards a LOT
Oops FAU kicked it out of bounds
Phillips still in there and good penetration.
Carroo is slow as shit to develop
I really like Fales the player, but still not sure about his arm.
watch the game
http://www.nfl.com/labs/clubs/stream/dev?club=mia
Rob, you have to be in FLA to watch on the team site, or gave a Florida IP address
Phillips and Taylor ate ’em up.
That was nice
I have the Dolphins broadcast too hooray
What’s the score?
16-10 them
Did anything good happen for us?
Yes there were some good things. I’ll list a few at halftime
Good stop by the defense
Chance for Osweiller with about 1:35 from the 7
face mask
this is a real nail biter!
No biting nails in the preseason
When the regular season starts you will never think about this game again good or bad. It’s the first practice game. I saw lots of good stuff from young players. Both teams probably played 50 different players in that 1st half.
Weird seeing Fitzpatrick starting and Winston 2nd team due to him being suspended the first 3 games.
I like the rotation of Fales and Osweiler. Petty is clearly a camp arm.
The draw play that Drake got 12 on was real nice.
Tannehill threw 2 nice passes to start (2 shit ones too but whatever)
Ballage was running strong (ugly fumble)
Minkah blew a pass up that would have been a big gainer
I really like Baker to put it in Philbin terms “he looks like a football player”
#55 is always around the ball. LOL
But remember Son if the Draw play was on1st down it doesnt count 😋
JBB Rob 👍👍
Thanks for the “Happy Recap” Sonny – Do you know what that’s from? My guess would be no.
No is correct
Turnover deep down there
On their 13
Farty for Duarte
🐖💨
Oswieller couldn’t convert. Fist pump 👊
Mike E.; KUDOS to U for another very informative article at the top of the page.

BOTTOM LINE: Tonight Tampa Bay’s first team (which included several back-up O-Linemen) clearly out played Miami’s first team in the first half. Our inability to stuff TB’s running game was particularly annoying. And journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick was able to pick holes in our secondary. Osweiler looked lost out there. What a pathetic performance he put on!
One bright spot was our O-Line’s pass protection for Tannehill. And Tanny was accurate with his passes. But those 3 and 4 yard passes called by Gase reminded me of the 3 and 4 yard passes he called when Landry was here. Gase’s blaming of Landry for patterns the head coach called seemed to me more than a bit unfair.
Gase needs to stop the nickel-and-dime shit and open up the deep passing game. And our defense needs to find a way to stop the run. Otherwise we’re in store for another non-playoff season and the firing of Adam Gase.
Looking THIS BAD against the lowly Bucs is cause for concern.
It’s a practice game. No concern for me. Like Tim said, in a few weeks, nobody will remember this game. I don’t even know who we played in the PS last year.
Hey there , what happnin ?
Hey Toba,
I may have a line on some tickets for the Packer game
You are the elder here. Really… the first PS game concerns you? LOL
Lol, right? Maybe we need 6, like back in the old days
Dude we get get it .. You live in Tampa Bay and are a fan of the Buc’s . Quit smashing our team.. This is preseason !! Just getting timing down on basic plays to see who sticks.
Pats have zero points. They are going to suck big time !!
Doggie : waht dont tou get ? The sky is falling and we are picking 1st over all next year … nope make that 11th cant have a top 10 pick .. 🤡
That Fales throw just cost Oswieller a job
Nice boot FAU
Weird, my reply to Bookman got lost..
Bookman , that’s awesome what do i need to do to go from MAY to Woohoo !!
Just have to wait. These might be free tickets also. It is one of the forklift dealers I work with.
Awesome er. Getting good at this waiting stuff.. 3 months and counting on my basement reno.. i posted my email above , and here again drp667@hotmail.com… keep me posted please and thanx. Hopefully you are also getting this deal ?
Toba..
You’re killing me smalls 😎👍🍺
🍺🍺👍. 🧝♂️ piss
^ thats an elf btw ^
Howell runs hard. Morgan looks good but a little slow.
Thought Morgan was our dark horse Burner ?
No he’s a possession guy.
Hilland a Center was playing guard when he screwed up.
No Morgan is shifty and smart and a good route runner, but he’s a 4.74 WR.
Toba, I asked him for 2 or 4 tickets. If 2, you can have them.
Dont be silly 🤪 if ya get 4 i would be honoured to sit with ya. If ya only get 2 you use em.. I appreciate ya keeping us in mind and will jeep fingers crosses
Keep and crossed,,, WOW
Thanks Tim and Naples… who am i confusing him with ? Ford or Owusu ? Or completely out to lunch ?
Okay whatever happens now who cares. The game is at that point of just finish it. LOL
PHINDOG; THANKS FOR THE DAMN LIE UP THE PAGE. I am NOT, I repeat, am NOT a fan of the Bucs. They are a suck-ass team that I’ve never had any use for. I have been buying Dolphins’ season tix for the last 5 decades, so don’t even pretend to question my loyalty. The fact that the lowly Bucs are the consensus last place preseason pick in their division is the reason I’m unhappy with Miami’s performance tonight. If you are happy then I say more power to you.
————
TO RECAP: I am NOT predicting a disastrous season for the Fins. In fact, I’ve made NO W-L PREDICTION for the 2018 Dolphins. All I’ve said is that Miami will NOT end their 17 year drought of playoff victories THIS SEASON. However, if Gase can get away from his nickel and dime offense AND find a way to control the running game of losing franchises like the Bucs, we may have a chance for success. And I’d be very happy about that. But if Gase fails in both of these pursuits, he’ll likely get fired after yet another losing season. Now does that make me a Bucs fan???
———–
NOW for those who claim they can’t remember last season’s first preseason contest, I’ll clue you in. Miami trailed the Falcons 20-10 after three quarters as Atlanta’s first stringers clearly outplayed Miami’s first stringers. Third string QB David Fales threw two fourth quarter TD’s against Atlanta’s back-up defenders and Miami rallied for a 23-20 win. But Atlanta’s domination of Miami’s first stringers in the first half foretold a season of frustration for Dolphin fans. THAT’S WHY some of us DO PUT some value on preseason games, especially the first half when one team’s first stringers play the other team’s first stringers.
———–
THAT’s why tonight seemed like a bit of DEJA VUE all over again, except for the fact that last season’s Atlanta team was better than this year’s Tampa Bay team. Do you understand that??
I understand that this game means nothing to me as a fan except to get through healthy.
Guess that’s what separates you from me. And the coaches who study and evaluate every play of every game.
I like this Bryce Petty guy.
Petty took the team right down the field for a TD going for 2
MADE IT
We lead 24-23
Shades of last year’s first preseason game!
OUT for tonight,y’all!!
Ford scored all 8
The new kickoff rule sucks!
Oh no we might lose this game. LOL
We are doomed I tell you, doomed
Why in the FUCK can’t we get off the field on 3rd down????????????????????????????
Still an issue with all the Defense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OD.. I know what team you are invested in.. It just seems like you love taking a jab at the PHINS whenever you can. 72 was a long time ago. With that I’m not out
So no major injuries? That is really the most important thing in preseason game 1.
Exactly my philosophy
Tim jinxed us above. Otherwise we would’ve won.
So what were your evaluations of 70+ players tonight? You all have your report cards handy?
2nd team defense sucks!
3rd Offense needs to trade with the 4th
Toba. I have fire all around me..The daylight is like sunset with creepy orange and yellow with dark smoke. Not a good situation for us. This shit sucks but GO PHINS 😎👍🐕🥃🥃
Stay safe Doggy
Thanks Bookman.. We are keeping tabs on what’s going on around us. We are good for now.
I really can’t relate to that shit being in Wisconsin, when I see it on the news it just seems unreal.
Well I guess this didn’t go away!
And they both scored how many points ? Fuck them.. #WRONGFORUM. And with that I’m still not out 🖕
Baker is what this new age NFL LB looks like on the outside….smallish and quick with good coverage skills. The kid is just a smart football player to boot. The question will be can he hold up against the run when teams are actually able to gameplan for it. He’s not afraid to stick his nose in there, but he’s just not a big guy. I was actually pleasantly surprised when I watched film on him. He’s a baller.
Agreed! He along with some other young players flashed. That’s what I wanted to see. #55 got a lot of snaps. LOL
What a catch by Grant even though he landed outta bounds, best catch ever, tight tight coverage streaking down sidelines, (pass interference called, and Grant still did a superman snatched the overthrow back half of the ball with octopus suction cupped fingertips, Woww what a catch!!!
Right before the EZ overthrow to Gesicki that almost was a great catch in itself,
but even had he caught it te QB/Fales overthrow had him landing outta bounds too…
THill worked through a 1St & 20 hole for a first down!!!
Man, we were in 1St & 20 a lot in o17, and rarely overcame!!!
Thought that Amendola (had he just kept running)
would have had a better chance at that THill ball he dove for off ten fingertips
at the 10 yard line… End result, missed FG
I thought the O did a lot of good things under all QB’s,
D too for that matter, think that Fitz & Baker moved closer to starting,
Looking forward to a great season!!!
GOFINS!!!
Suggested in starting roster projection piece,
If he can’t get TJ off the field,
Start Fitz opposite of X for SHUTDOWN CB TANDEM!!!
Love Tank, but Fitz blows his doors off!!!
GOFINS!!!
Lotta guys that I wanted to do well, did well
Ballage/Eric Dickerson
Owusu (Parker stature clone)
Cornell Armstrong (great tackler), led team in tackles
And been saying since get go, for more than the obvious reasons, I’m getting me a jersey that says BAKER!!!
Lotsa GOODSTUFFF from a lot of guys!!!!
GOFINS!!!
So I finally got to see the Fins first D play,
And see that Fitz STARTED at Safety up tight/LOS vs slot receiver,
same side as X, with Tank on other side vs no receiver.
Ball was completed by a fingernail vs X
Second play Fitz blazes from S position
Both plays (just before snap) looked like a 4 – 4 moreso than a 4-3
If not for knowing Fitz number, I’d a thought it was 4DL & 4LB,
10 guys were in frame, only TJ was back..
Wonder how its gonna go when Rashad is active??
Really wanting Jones, TJ, & Fitz on the field together more than not!!!
Shoot, throw in Baker too, GOTTA NEED FOR SPEED !!!
GOFINS!!!
PS…
Jarvis NEVER made a catch like the one Grant made
(though outta bounds due to overthrow)
@ 4:39 remaining in 1St quarter !!!!!!!!
Shit Doggie sorry to hear about fires stay safe or get the Fuck Out …
we have huge forest fires in Northern Manitoba as well , but prolly 75% of Canadas population lives within 100 miles of the US Border so some natives get displaced and forestry industry affected but that usually about it. I can handle freezing cold and snow every year but i dunno if i could handle the every year Fire Watch.. i know the wife could not handle it.. she worries about way too much trivial shit
I’m with Doggie. Fuck Stills, Wilson, and Quinn. I hope they all blow their ACL before the season starts.
Wow….
Just read an article about Randy Moss and his tie at the HOF ceremony. …and the hate mail that followed.
Let’s squash all expressions of injustice. 😨😕
KUDOS to Moss!
🐷👍
I read that list too. Three of names were not career criminals. Don’t be a criminal. If you’re a criminal and you get caught, don’t resist arrest. If you’re a criminal who gets caught and you resist arrest, you should figure you may get hurt or dead.
Injustice my ass.
