The day we’ve waited so long to arrive will be here in 3 more days. Yeah, there’s a game on tonight, and may even be a good one, but I’m looking right past it to Sunday, 1PM, Hard Rock Stadium. This team has made a lot of changes and we will be relying on a lot young players, but if you look at the drafts we had last year and this year, I feel pretty confident.
On the offensive side of the ball, we brought in free agent LG Josh Sitton, I feel that is a clear upgrade. Returning at LT is Laremy Tunsil, and he will most definitely benefit by playing next to Sitton. At center, we said goodbye to Mike Pouncey, and traded for SF 49ers C Dan Kilgore. In theory, it will be nice to have all our starting OL practicing together and hopefully developing a rhythm and a chemistry. Kilgore will probably be an upgrade run blocking, but Pouncey was good last year pass blocking, and throughout his career, so Kilgore will have to play very well to in that regard.
Gone is the go-to-guy Jarvis Landry who caught over 400 passes in 4 years here in Miami, and in his place will be veteran WR Danny Amendola, as well as rookie TE Mike Gesicki, and WR Albert Wilson. 3 new faces for Tannehill, each with their own particular skill set. I never loved Amendola, but that guy is a clutch performer, helping the Patriots big time in the playoffs with excellent performances. Wilson was relatively underused in KC, and my hope is it’s not because he didn’t have the goods, it’s because they had too many weapons in KC with Kareem Hunt, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Gesicki can be the TE we’ve craved here for too long, at least as far as a receiver, his blocking is a work in progress. Gesicki brings athletic ability we haven’t had, and he’s a very talented pass catcher. We’ll also have the oft (minor injured) Devante Parker and Jakeem Grant as well. Grant will bring excitement, and Parker disappointment, just the way it usually is.
Ryan Tannehill returns from injury as he hasn’t played a regular season game since December 11th of 2016. Tannehill is acutely aware this is his team now, and if he can elevate his play, the team will come along as well. This is a great opportunity for him, I hope he makes the most of it. With Kenyan Drake, Frank Gore and Kalen Ballage, I think he has the tools to succeed. I think the backs will share a workload, but Kenyan Drake is the primary back. There won’t be a workhorse among the 3, but Drake is the lead, Gore next, and then Ballage and Senorise Perry.
On defense, we let go a pro-bowl caliber DT, one who played an exorbitant amount of plays for us, and he will be replaced by the frequent rotation of Jordan Phillips, Davon Godchaux, Akeem Spence and Vincent Taylor, with an occasional sprinkling of DE William Hayes. At LB, 2nd YR Rookie Raekwon McMillan returns after missing last season with an ACL injury. He’s joined by Kiko Alonso and and a combo of Jerome Baker, Stephone Anthony and Chase Allen. The biggest change is at CB, where Xavien Howard returns at RCB, but opposite him will be Bobby McCain, who was previously the slot and nickel corner. Depth wise, Cordrea Tankersley, Torry McTyer and rookie Cornell Armstrong round out the CB position. At safety, a few veterans return in Reshad Jones, T.J. McDonald, Walt Aikens, but they are joined by do it all rookie sensation Minkah Fitzpatrick. We’re going to see him on the field A LOT!
So on to the game! Tennessee will be lead by 5th YR QB Marcus Mariota, and the run game led by big back Derrick Henry (Kenyan Drake’s RB mate at ALA), former Patriots RB Dion Lewis, former Dolphins WR Rishard Matthews, 3rd YR WR Corey Davis and veteran TE Delanie Walker. The Titans like to impose their will with a power run game led by a tough OL with excellent bookends Taylor Lewan and Jack Conklin. Henry had previously been splitting carries with RB DeMarco Murray, but with Murray out of the picture, Henry will be getting the lion’s share of carries. We have struggled defending the run, at least in the preseason, so we’ll see if we can hold here at home.
On offense, Devante Parker is OUT, so Albert Wilson will likely replace Parker as wideout. In the preseason, the offense was a fast pace, no huddle short pass game clinic. Not sure if that continues in the regular season, or if we’ll be more balanced with more of a rushing attack, and also get the TE’s more involved in the passing game as well. We have a rookie kicker, and supposedly Jason Sanders has ice running through his veins. Let’s hope we don’t need to find out!
MIA 30 – TEN 13

I want to see a good ole 31-14 definitive win
30-13 doesn’t cut it for ya?
Don’t want to be greedy
LOL
Buddy Howell-less
Against the Titan Horde
OD Weeps alone.
Meh, should have said Titan Melee….but whatevs…lol
I laughed
🐽
Devante Parker out
Gesicki’s eyes get larger
Big day at Tight End
Is that a haiku?
🐽
1 snout
Bc I had to ask of it was a haiku
Yes, Haiku
I’ll stick with my 23-21 Dolphins win. Until I see this offense get going, I’m going conservative. I’m hoping to see something like that wonderful Denver game last year.
I’ll take the win either way, but I would love to watch us dominate a game from start to finish.
Statement game. Put the league on notice.
Don’t worry,
If the Dolphins dominate, the story nationally will be: “wow, who knew the Titans would be so bad?”…LOL
No doubt Bookman, no doubt. No respect I tell ya, no respect!
Titans – 17
Dolphins – 24
Fins win opener
Cleveland gets their asses kicked
Go suck it Landry
It’s time for this team to start earning some respect and that only happens when you play well and win.
Consistently – Like Bookman said, even a one-sided one by us will have everyone saying how bad the Titans are.
I favor Limericks . . .
There was a running back named Buddy
The playbook he would religiously study
The depth chart glut
Got ole Buddy cut
And OD’s complexion turned ruddy

I don’t get into leverage plays like that, but even noticing that short dive on the play that is a pretty small drop. And can’t see the fundamentals playing out as quickly as a short time frame. Might be a bad move for the company down the road, but just don’t see a short play on it. Are you going with that?
____________________________________
NO,
but lets say you bought ten contracts and controlled 100,000 shares, that 1 day drop of $4 would net you 40k, so really it’s not such a small dip,
say you held that for a month? do you think Nike’s stock will go up?
they are being divisive, they have chosen a side which eliminates the other side from doing business with them. it stands to reason that stock will drop. if it drops down to half of what it is in that same scenario you would net 400k for maybe a 15k investment.
it’s a tricky situation but if it does go up I don’t see it going up that much, sure there is potential for loss.
Obviosly if it drops then levaraging a short position can pay off huge– but it would have to drop and not as sure of that as you. And if it doesn’t then all is gone…. way those plays work.
MikeE,
I don’t really worry too much about what people say about our team. I know whether or not they played well even if it doesn’t result in a win. But, we need to start winning games. I meant earning respect from other teams not fans and media.
×××
I think we’ve got some nice building blocks. I want to see it results in some more wins, but I’m still not convinced our offense can produce at a high enough level to truly be competitive down the stretch. I hope they prove me wrong.
Well, that’s why I said consistently. One good effort followed by falling on our face isn’t going to do that. We need to look like a playoff team consistently, just about every game, not just the occasional week.
It starts with one game though. There’s plenty of time to worry about what happens next week and the rest of the season later.
Howie usually pops in about this time each year wondering what the hell we did all off season then starts his list. I’ll bet he doesn’t know Suh, Landry and Pouncey are gone. Minkah who? Quinn from the Rams?
Gotta love him
I thought Howie “took his ball and left” kinda exit? No? It would be great to see him on here again, but I THOUGHT he left because he was displeased with someone here, or just this blog in general. Anyway, again, I hope he shows up. I’ve always liked him.
34-27 Miami
Gray tore his Achilles yesterday. The Dolphins put him on IR this morning. Re-Signed the drug lord.
Noooooooo!

Damn, that’s disappointing news with Gray. Looks like Smythe better put on his big boy pants! Gesicki too!
For the record, asa proud pantless pig.
I think we should point out, that there is no known correlation between pants and production.
It’s possible to have a a very good season sans “big boy pants”
There once was a mentsh Mike di hant

that statement makes me want to point out that there IS a correlation between pants and REproduction. It’s hard to reproduce (not impossible) with your pants on.

Though his poems are really quite bland.
I don’t speak Yiddish, Hebrew or German. Not that strange. I can read Hebrew, and I know a few words in Yiddish, and I mean a handful or so. Yiddish basically is a dialect made up of a combo of Hebrew and German. So is your delight in the fact that you can skim it, or do you delight in reading the articles?
Kinda covers both, for those that skim and those who delight in reading the entire thing. I tried to be all inclusive 🙂

See, proof you are old, you remember before zippers were invented.
That goes without saying . . .
Fun fact, Zippers were invented by a man from New Jersey…
Where was the piano necktie invented
Mugatu invented it….duh
Another fun fact, the fruit orange was not named for the color, the color was named for the fruit. The fruit actually got its name from the tree and wasnt originally associated with the color at all. The Orange trees were called Naranga’s which as languages evolved, people adopted the word orange to mean the fruit, and then nearly 200 years later they started using the word for describing the color.
Before they started using the word orange to describe that color, they instead called the color yellow-red, or some combination of words that meant yellow and red. In Old English there are recordings of the color as goeluread which means yellow-red.
The French actually are the ones that gave use the first word similar to the word we have today when they would describe the fruit as pomme d’orenge, the english then transformed this into pume orange and then dropping off the pume (fruit) part, just orange. Like i said, this is still describing just the fruit, and not the color, which again, made its first appearance 200 years later.
Oh and originally oranges werent orange, they were green. It wasnt until they adapted to different climates that they started having the orange rind.
That sucks about Gray.
Tannehill pressured from left and from right
stepping up in the pocket he throws with all his might
Kenny Stills streaking down field
blazing fast he will not yield
catching the ball in stride
6 points will not be denied
🐽🐽🐽
3 snouts
Good effort but it’s supposed to be a sack haiku
Feel real bad for Gray. Why did someone say earlier that it was Gore. That funked me up.
The first major injury for this team days before the opener. All the work these guys put in and then this. Sucks!
BBM – Gore has a sore achilles
I wonder if he’ll play Sunday?
Damnm, RIP Burt
Yeah just saw that. RIP Burt!
Longest yard is one of if not my favorite football movie.
Classic movie.
Pig, I know but I hate sacks, LOL
I should hope so!
Unless it’s in a kayak?????
I don’t think he said that Omar. LOL
Sucking off coaches….oh my dear god that shit needs to stay private.
Fun fact about sucking off coaches……
Might be more of a Sinatra story than a Burt Reynolds one but worth a read either way. And love the ending, which makes Reynolds seem real cool.

“‘Where the hell are you going?’ Sinatra asked.
‘Home,’ I said. ‘I got my Sinatra story.’

Though was just gonna be a link….. but there it is.
First Marqueis Gray and now Burt Reynolds? Not a good day for news.
Saw am interview with him. Confident yet humble and cool. Seems to have his head on in the right way.
Seems like a good kid.
Ouch
Yeah damn, people get sentenced to less for murder sometimes lol

🐽🐽
Fifteen for the Fins
Hard fought first game tough points
Twelve for the titans
🐽
15 freaking points
I should even give you 1 snout
In part bc I haven’t been watching the team this offseason – I didn’t even think Grey would be on the fianl 53
I know you need more than 2 TEs, but kinda though the TE position would be essentially defined this season by how well the rookies played
It will be now. Grey had a great camp.
Piggy, Gray is a solid blocker, can play FB, H-back, TE and he was a core STs player. He also did a nice job as a short yardage runner. I think he was a big loss. Not that our season is done because of it, but he made us better. Other guys have to step up now.
But can he haiku?
Gray falls clutching his knee
Bitter tears fall
Dolphin’s season of hope remains
Achilles
The upper Achilles, lol
🐽🐽
Two snouts
It’s not a knee. I gave you an extra snout out of sympathy bc Phish don’t have joints – but you got to learn humans
A pox on you all. Achilles would have run over the 17 syllables.
Uhhhhh, you could have said leg (meanwhile, my first haiku of the day went over a syllable and I didn’t even realize it until after)
Oh and by the way this would have been the PERFECT Just Do It Signing!
IMHFO
Agreed!
Running back Frank Gore, who was a full participant Wednesday despite being listed with an Achilles injury, did not practice Thursday. But his injury this time was listed as Achilles/Not Injury Related, an indication he simply was given a veteran’s day off.
Wide receiver DeVante Parker (finger) did not practice for a second consecutive day; guard Ted Larsen (knee) again was limited; and guard Josh Sitton (shoulder) again was listed as a full participant.
Tennessee had two changes on its injury report, both involving outside linebackers. Rookie second-round pick Harold Landry (ankle) did not practice after being limited Wednesday, and veteran Derrick Morgan (knee) had full participation after being limited Wednesday.
Safety Kendrick Lewis (foot) did not participate for a second consecutive day; tackle Jack Conklin (knee) and rookie first-round pick Rashaan Evans (hamstring) again were limited.
Tannehill rises
3 touchdowns for him
Start of excellence

For general optimism
Just realized looking at my FF roster that the NFL kicks off tonight. LOL
Already had Julio Jones and Zach Ertz in my lineup though. 🙂
I still hate Thursday Night Football.
Especially to kickoff the season. NFL football is a Sunday ritual.
Thursday Night Football
Kicks off the season all wrong

Phelon – You going to MetLife takeover? I kinda gave up, I think Piggy put up today they’re sold out
Tanny’s back to pass
The O-Line looks good this year
TD bomb to Stills

This is the opposite of the haiku challenge
“The OL looks good this year”
But I like the positivity
Tanny from shotgun

Good use of a rookie
GO MINKAH!!!
My nephews friend has a team in FF called “My Ball Zach Ertz” lol
Hah hah
LOL… 👍🥃🥃
In college my Dorm Johnstone hall C-7 had an intramural flag football team that we registered as a fraternity called Nu Alpha Delta and on our “cheerleaders” unis they had Go NADs.
The fraternity was fake, the girls were our QB’s GF, a couple local sluts, and some random groupies, We got busted half-way through the season for “impersonating a Greek House” and each had to pay $20 to make up for getting in on the reduced rate for frats.
We had the last laugh when we won the league and they gave our hall a beer bust with 3 kegs at the beach. Those were the days when the University gave kegger parties for stupid shit and bused in girls from all-girls schools like Winthrop. Apparently these chicks were desperate, because getting a Clemson jersey with slang for genitalia on it REALLY made them grateful.
LOL!
lol that’s great 😁

so he beat that rap in Wisconsin?
I know all about it, and it was only paraphernalia (bong). He smokes weed.
not judgin’ … recreational only though, and no needles pls.
Naples.. Toba is the bus whisperer. All he needs to know in advance is how many people need a ride and they adjust the size of the vehicle. We all split the cost .. it doesn’t cost much and so far we made it there and back with only a few problems.😳
If you need a ride to D&B on sat .. I rented a mini van and you can ride with the Phindog’s and the Toba’s. Me and my son flip a coin on who is the designated driver that night after drinking all day. 😆
LOL thank you sir. It would be an honor to ride with the eskimos.
Prob’ly need to drive myself though since us old guys need to hit the sack by 9:15.
… hard to resist cruisin with the rockstars though, so let me ponder on that.
I’ll be driving over but just thinkin it would be fun to roll with the blog on game day.
Dog Beach is Friday

Handing out snorts (stingily at that)
But doesn’t count syllables
Doesn’t count lines either. Should be three lines of 5-3-5 and a juxtaposition of ideas. But what do expect from a pig.
5-7-5 but yes pigheaded to say the least
Yes 5-7-5
Mike – I’m out for the MetLife takeover too. Heading out to Montana Sunday, then Down to the Keys from there. Two week road trip for work.
You’ll log a ton of miles on that trip
And not fun miles
I’ll be able to take 2 or 3 people to D&B
Damn, I grab a football division glass out of the cabinet for some Jack. I said the division that represent one of these teams will win tonight. It was NFC East, old 5 team divisions.
When the Colts were our bitch
Then they moved them out of the division so Manning wouldn’t die on the field.
Remember when the Fins broke his jaw? Ahh good times
Keep those glasses. They may actually be worth a lot of money in the future (if not now).
Only 4 left 2 from NFC East and 2 from AFC West, so fagatabout the Steagles winning tonight.
YUP!
I think the black hole is at the Ramada actually . . .
I guess you can go to far in this day and age?
He’s ignorant as fuck.
I still contend we should have gone to the South (obviously)
Baltimore to the East
Indy to the North
Colts got to Feast on crappy Jags and Titans and expansion Texans
With Peyton they would’ve feasted on us too.
Son if you got room for Naples and his lovely Wife I will scoop up Mike E, His lovely wife and his son and get them to D&B . We will figure this out Friday
No problem
I can stuff a pig in there too
Fucking Boyz to Men are tight. Good stuff
You should be standing just because of how good they sound
Wow Son That is exactly word for word what my wife said.
Naples : where ya staying?
He’s at the pigpen next to Mike E.
Then the van/bus will be door to door We gotcha covered Naples
Fuck Sproles is small
HOLY smallish, Batman!
I think falcons destroy Eagles tonight
Fins 27-Titans 16
Wow. Well played by Eagles.
GOAL LINE STAND!!!
I hope our Phins can do that this year!!!
I dont get the run heavy formation at the goal line.
They threw 4 times from there in NFC final and lost , decided to do a 180. Oh well
Take your best player off the field in Jones. I don’t get it even if he’s a decoy he opens up other options.
Sounds like a disgruntled Julio Jones owner to me! 😉
Lol
Hey I said even as a decoy. I think they kind of limited their options and the Eagles were ready for it.
kinda telegraphed the play right?
Did they think they could bulldoze the great run D-line of Philly?
Naples : game day bus is usually 20.00 each return trip, and you are right in the pick up zone so all good
I had a shock G watch….oh, wait that was a G Shock
