2018 Season – Game 10 – Dolphins @ Packers

I was watching Good Morning Football this morning on NFLN, and after showing highlights of the Panthers vs Bucs (42-28), and Saints vs Rams (45-35), yeah, it looks pretty wrong seeing 13-6, Dolphins over Jets.  Kay Adams and Kyle Brandt presented it as a good ole 1990’s defensive struggle, a throwback.  They got it all wrong, this wasn’t a defensive struggle, it was an offensive struggle.  Jets rookie QB Sam Darnold didn’t get the memo that his team was wearing the white jerseys, because he threw better passes to the dark jerseys than he did to the white jerseys.  If you want to credit our pass rush, which actually existed yesterday, feel free to do so.  On our side, we couldn’t block (run or pass), we got one defensive TD and two FG’s.  Light it up!

I’m not singling anyone out here, but our O-line play was just terrible, and of course as per usghe, injuries were the reason for this.  Both tackles missed time in this game forcing Zach Sterup to man both the RT spot when James was hurt, and then slide over to the LT spot when James came back in and Laremy Tunsil got hurt.  So now Brock Osweiler, who I will say has better pocket awareness than Ryan Tannehill has ever had, has no pocket awareness because players were on him in 1 second or less.  Our O-line isn’t good with all our starters in there, but subtract one of our tackles, who are our 2 best OL, Tunsil #1, James #2, it really goes downhill.

I don’t want to knock the optimists here, because it’s wonderful that fans can still believe we’re in this, but I laugh inside  (a sad laugh) when fans say “Oh, not good, the Chargers won, gonna be tough to catch them”.  From what I have seen this year, we don’t belong on the same field as the Chargers, they score 28 PPG, and we’ve scored more just once this year, in OT, and never more in regulation.  We’ve had injuries, but we still have Devante Parker, Kenny Stills, Jakeem Grant, David Amendola, and Mike Gesicki.  We have Frank Gore and Kenyan Drake, a formidable 1-2 punch, yet our offense is putrid.  Yeah, we’re 5-4, easily the worst 5-4 team in the NFL.  We’re the only 5-4 team.

My guess is we’re probably going to have Brock Osweiler as QB one more time as we hit the BYE week, and then after the BYE, it will be Ryan Tannehill’s team once again.  We travel this week to Wisconsin to take on the Packers in their house.  This is an angry Pack team, having lost to the Patriots in Foxboro.  Anyone know who the OC is for GB?  Tee-hee, it’s Joe Philbin.  Not even kidding.  Possibly, this explains how the GB Packers are only scoring 24 PPG, just a few more than our Dolphins.  Hey, is it bad that Saints WR Michael Thomas accounted for more yardage and scoring by himself with 211 yards and 1 TD, while we accumulated as a team 203 yards and no TD’s?

It’s easy for Belichick to do whatever he wants, he’s beyond reproach at this point, no one questions the master.  How smart does he look using Cordarrelle Patterson as a RB?  Can we get some of that ingenuity from our offensive genius Adam Gase?  Don’t bet on it.    I wish he would read this and it would inspire him, but I won’t bet on that either!  I wish something would inspire him, maybe keeping his job, something like that.

I know Toba, Bookman and ER are attending the GB game, I hope they enjoy and I hope our team gives them a great game to watch and a Dolphins victory!  Enjoy fellas, way to represent!

son …Without Wilson to turn two yard passes into 60 yard TD’s, we’re lucky we can muster 5-6 scoring drives a month.

  2. son of a son of a shula says:

My wife came across a real tiny sized Jay Fiedler t-shirt that our kids wore back in the day that now my granddaughter will wear soon, it’s still too big for her.

Where have you gone Jay Fiedler? We could use you now. He’d throw to our TEs.

  3. bat says:

son ..Fiedler was a victim of Wannstedt’s pig headed conservative offense, just hoping to get to the next punt without a turnover.

  4. mf13ss says:

And to address the earlier dialogue on Sam Bradford… he cleared waivers today. For those who don’t know, that means he’s a street FA and nobody has to pick up his contract (thought we all knew that by now?).

    But here’s his medical…

  5. Tim Knight says:

Okay, so Tannehill sucks, Osweiler sucks, Gase sucks, Burke sucks, Tannenbaum sucks, Grier is just some guy and Ross has no clue. Yet we’re one of 13 teams with a winning record at 5-4. How is that possible?

Now I’m not saying we won’t finish with a losing record because I can see that happening with what’s going on with this team. But you would think we would be 1-8 the way so many of you view this team.

Who thought we were going to be a big time team this season and after many injuries still felt that way? Is it inherent in fans to mock and ridicule people because your sports team didn’t satisfy you?

I don’t believe in torches and pitchforks, I guess I’m in the minority regardless of the situation. At 5-4 I’m still rooting. Those of you who bail, the ship has no more room for you. You’re not reliable fans. How’s that. It sucks doesn’t it?

You’re like the folks in the militia who bailed on American independence. Not willing to stay the course no matter how tough the odds. I’m guessing most of you don’t like this. Well how do you think the team feels about it as they have to deal with it?

Our jobs as fans is to root for them. That’s where it ends. We don’t make any other decisions other than that. If they lose your interest so be it. But the team isn’t calling you names.

  6. New Age says:

    Tim,

Even you admit you didn’t expect them to be good this year…or last year. When the rebuild looks the same year after year(last two with Gase), what’s the expectations? We shouldn’t have any? Injuries are a part of the NFL. We don’t have the highest number and we didn’t last year or the year before. It’s gotta get old looking for excuses for a team that has two playoff appearances in almost two decades. The Rams will equal that this year in just the past two years. They moved on from incompetent Fisher, got a good coach and almost instantly playoff bound. Two for two with McVay.

I guess Gase has another one in him somewhere? If all the players stay healthy, Tannehill suddenly makes great decisions, and he rolls a natural 20? We might as well play the lottery because I’m expecting the same results if I trust Gase.

  7. manitobafinfan says:

I agree with Piggie, there is not a game left on our schedule that we don’t have a CHANCE to win.. Green Bay will be tough, and yes we can’t put an auto on the Pats game in Miami, but we lately have beat them once a year ( more than we can say for most other teams in the league) .. cliche brigade..1 game at a time, any given Sunday, it’s why we play the games on Sundays .. we do not have a tough schedule going forward.. do I EXPECT us to win them all ? Or even go 6-1 ? No , but I Believe we will win more than we lose .. will 9-7 get us in the playoffs? Maybe, maybe not.. do we get annihilated By the Chargers in a wild card game possibly.. can we beat the Chargers? Also very possible… are we playing undermanned, and below where we need to be to go on a run .. for the most part yes.. can we fight through it ? Gonna be tough, but not impossible, can we lose out all remaining games? Also a possibility..

    Still cheering loudly !!
    Go Phins !!!!

  8. ElephantRider says:

Tim is a man on an island. LOL

Other teams may have the same or more on IR, but are they starters? Are they OL, QB, WR starters? Would be interesting to see…. i’m too busy to research. LOL

  9. ElephantRider says:

I’m all in on finding a QB moving forward. I also really want RT17 to play rest of year…

  10. Gotta love the ” not a real fan” comments”. I’ve been a real fan since the early 70′ s and you get tired of seeing your team look like shit year after year.

  11. The team is 5-4. If you want to kid yourself they are good because they have a winning record and ignore the fact that they are one of the worst teams out there you go right ahead. The Mediocrity Brigade. I’ve never seen so many people defend mediocrity in my life

  12. The team actually ejected fans from the game because Jets fans complained they were cheering too loud. That tells you everything you need to know about this organization. I agree with OD. Ross needs to sell. He sucks as an owner.

  13. Seriously? Not a team remaining we can’t beat? Have you been watching the games? We scored 6 pts and had 168 total yds of offense against a shit Jets team. Wow.

    • naplesfan2010 says:

The jests have some excellent players on defense.
They have a rookie QB and mediocre skills players on offense, but they have a good defense both in the DL and the DBs.

  14. naplesfan2010 says:

See I think Gase was keeping the wraps on some plays he wants to spring on GB,
especially Parker routes and Drake at RB.
We did not need those plays to win this game, so he hid them from the Pack, Vikes, and pasties.*

  15. naplesfan2010 says:

My son put this together and I got it in an e-mail this morning.
That’s how great a fan he is, considering he is getting married this coming Saturday.

    Cordrea Tankersley: 3
    Chase Allen: 4

After the line is guys on IR. Asterisks indicate starters.

These numbers are the numbers of games that these players have missed so far, out of 9.

That’s not to mention guys who have missed crucial series, like Tunsil and Ja’Wuan, both of whom had knee injuries yesterday too and are awaiting MRI results on those.

Also, cruelly, Tunsil’s injury against Cincinnati in week 5 directly led to Tannehill’s injury.

We also released DT Jordan Phillips after 4 games, which makes our DL injuries tougher.

  16. naplesfan2010 says:

    and speaking of great fans:
    https://www.thephinsider.com/2018/11/5/18065656/a-win-is-a-win

read down to see a disturbing misuse of the “obnoxious fan button”

  17. naplesfan2010 says:

Apparently some jests fans tricked security by ratting out Dolphins fans for making noise during the jests offense series and got them ejected so they could not disrupt Darnold’s center’s snaps.

Didn’t work but hey that is a dirty trick by visiting fans that Hard Rock security needs to address.

  18. naplesfan2010 says:

Look at other teams who have lost their starting QB.
What happened to GB’s playoff hopes when Aaron went down? two different years
    Is he injury prone?

  22. Mike E. says:

I respect Tim fiercely. I admire his resolve. It’s so much easier to bitch and moan than it is to hold the course.

Props to you Tim! Carry on!

    • D says:

I respect it too, but i also know there is a point to where you are holding the course when things are heading in a bad direction. Hold the course makes complete sense in the case that things are going the right way or only a little bit off and just need to be righted back to the right direction. If its way off like it is this year and like it has gotten several of the last few seasons, you have to stop trying to point it back to the right direction and find out if you have a broken rudder or something.

      • Mike E. says:

I think he realizes and understands all is not well with our team, yet he’s correct, we are 5-4 regardless.

      • D says:

I think you and i are more correct. we are 5-4 despite not playing well enough to have that record. You can say but we are still 5-4 all you want, but the way we are playing its will be 5-5 then 5-6 and then 5-7, etc etc. We have to get something fixed just to end up 8-8 this year and what really is that as an accomplishment. 8-8 is no better than 6-10 in fact it could be argued its worse because you still dont get the playoffs and yet you get a much worse draft position to help add talent to your team. I dont wanna tank the rest of the season, but i definately dont think that is we somehow make 8-8 we achieved anythign as a team.

  23. Mike E. says:

I voted nice and early, it was a pleasure, no lines, no hassle. Like OD says, go out and vote! It’s your responsibility as a citizen to do so, and it’s a privilege you shouldn’t waste.

    • D says:

I think its the responsibility of a citizen to not place a vote on a person who doesn’t deserve it. If i have a person i feel deserves my vote i vote, otherwise i abstain. If more people did that it would send a message that we are fucking tired of the shit show they parade around in front of us every time. It might also inspre a candidate who is worthy to run as an independent if they knew with that many people abstaining they would have a shot to pick up those votes.

  24. son of a son of a shula says:

    I voted!

I voted for a new Quarterback

  25. Mike E. says:

Naples – It depends on the QB situation of the team. Honestly, I don’t see a huge drop off between Tannehill and Osweiler, but some folks here do. Look at TB, their backup, Ryan Fitzgerald has thoroughly outplayed the starter, Jameis Winston.

  26. Mike E. says:

D – I hear ya, I haven’t changed my stance on the team, just think Tim deserves credit for holding tight to his viewpoint. I’m with ya, I think we’re an awful 5-4 team.

    • D says:

We argue, but he is the way i would like to return to being. I used to be very much like him, but after year after year after year of this same old show, im starting to feel like we need to make some big adjustments now and stop wishing for the football fairy to come wave a wand over us and make everything that hasnt worked magically start working.

      • Mike E. says:

I keep hoping we hit on the right guy, I definitely was pretty high on Gase. Now I’m starting to feel like he isn’t the guy. It could have to do with his coordinators. Maybe he needs more established guys. He’s got a lot on his plate handling the play calling, and then expect to handle everything else. Burke may not be good enough, and Loggains other than being a crony of his also may not be good enough. I’m not sure if he’s willing to relinquish that power though, and there may lie the problem. Pretty sure he’ll be here next year, so we’ll see how things turn out next year, and take it from there.

  27. wyoming85 says:

So you want to trade 2 middling QB’s for one Middling QB??????

    • Mike E. says:

In a way, I get it. Fitz throws the ball downfield, unlike the 2 other stiffs we have that are almost solely locked in on 10 YDS or less. I freaking hate it!

  28. pheloniusphish says:

I was on the “Oz isn’t much of a drop off” boat for his first couple of games, but after the last three I i have scuttled that ship. Oz can’t hold RT’s jock. He has better (somewhat) pocket presence, but that is it. He is inaccurate at all ranges and has middling arm strength. No threat to run.

I am with Tim to the extent that I believe this team, or any team in the NFL, can turn it around during the course of the season. That said, nothing I’ve seen the last few games leads me to believe they will. And I put it all on Gase. He’s the leader, he draws up the game plan, he calls the plays. He needs to change his philosophy. Stop throwing WR screens seemingly every other play. Throw to the sticks. Run the ball on 3rd/4th and short. You don’t get rhythm if you don’t get 1st downs.

  29. pheloniusphish says:

I went to vote in the pouring rain. Walked right in.

  30. wyoming85 says:

    Thanks!

  32. Mike E. says:

Also BTW – That Knicks game last night was awesome! They lost in double OT, but they were competitive with a bunch of young, no names, or retreads. So much better than watching the entire team standing around waiting for Melo to shoot. So happy he’s gone!

As a placeholder sure, he would give us a better QB option for that role. He’s a Vet, he knows how to play the game, he would serve as a good mentor and stand in for whatever rookie we select, but im wanting the long term replacement to be a new guy.

Respectfully disagree. If more people did that you have the ability of small minorities with extreme views to take over the governance of our country. 65 million vote democrat, 63 million vote republican, 190 million need to start giving a crap.

II feel your frustration though. I really do.

    • D says:

I guess what im saying is, like this last election. I couldn’t stomach the idea of being the vote that gave either Clinton or Trump the presidency. I couldnt see disagreeing with both candidates as much as i did and yet giving them a vote that basically endorsed them. Im not really saying that i did it to force a third party, but just that i could see that being the end result of it. Maybe what should be said is write in a vote instead, then you are excising your vote on someone you believe in, but still exercising your vote. Unfortunately for me none of the candidates, including the Libertarian candidate wereacceptable to me this past election and i did abstain.

      • D says:

I definitely give a crap, though, im not in that group that doesnt vote out of apathy, ijust cant make myself vote for someoen that i dont agree with even if they might be lesser of two evils.

I’m with you on that Phelon. Whatever Tanny is or is not down the road, wouldn’t want Oz in there unless we do a complete blow up…… at which point wouldn’t really matter who the QB is.

  37. stangerx says:

Real interested to watch the election results tonight, but more so that it will be over. My phone has been blowing off the hook with robocalls and supposed “pollsters” for weeks. Had one call at 8:30 this morning. She asked “are you planning to vote today” and on my “no” it was “click.” Am sure would have been one with Qs like “do you support this or candidate ruining America or the other one who wants to save it?”

    • Jahndoh30 says:

It feels like time has passed the pollsters by. I honestly don’t even have a land line anymore and I’ve never had a pollster call my cell phone. I think getting accurate data for them and honest answers is harder then ever, and then you have the pollsters like you mentioned that merely want to ferret out the answers they’re looking for.

      • stangerx says:

Jahn — just feel lucky you don’t live in a swing state like FL. When moved here was all proud of “now my vote counts so much more”, but have learned at what price that comes with. At this point just lie to them to stop more calls — am sure in various databases am listed as “renounced US citizenship,” “No longer eligible to vote cause of felony conviction”, and “this guy is one huge pain in the ass.”

I haven’t got a response back but I replied asking how he thought his grandson was doing for the Dolphins and when we could get together to play a round. I hope we do.

  40. Mike E. says:

I’m upset I forgot to ask for a “I voted” sticker this morning. Who doesn’t like a sticker?

  41. BailBondMike says:

Unfortunately we have to go with Oz against the Packers. If he comes out and plays like a noodle arm gumby again (which I expect), then it is Fales time if Tanny is not ready to go. I would not want to stick him out there on the road in freezing temps against the Packers. Let him get all the first team reps during the bye week and roll with Fales.

  42. Tim Knight says:

I’m just going with the flow. I was also being sarcastic with some of my comments. LOL

I didn’t really know what kind of team we’d be this year until I saw them play some games because we had a lot of new. Then when we lost a bunch of guys that changed too. We’re a middle of the road team at this point who will struggle to compete with the high scoring teams. I don’t expect us to do anything special this season. So as long as we’re in the playoff hunt I’ll try to enjoy it.

  43. Tim Knight says:

I’m getting those political election texts as well. Telling where my nearest polling station is that was inaccurate. I know where to go thank you very much.

  44. Mike E. says:

Son – He never said the coaches have feelings, so can you can rip on them relentlessly.

  47. pheloniusphish says:

    From ESPN:

    18. Miami Dolphins (5-4)
    Preseason rank: 32 | Week 9: 19

The Dolphins’ league-leading 15 interceptions have kept them competitive in the AFC playoff race. Despite mounting injuries involving Ryan Tannehill and others, the Dolphins have greatly exceeded the ESPN rankings that had them as the NFL’s worst team in the preseason. This team is wildly inconsistent, but top defensive playmakers such as Xavien Howard and Kiko Alonso have allowed the Fins to feast against lesser opponents. They are the AFC East’s second-best team and much closer to league average than bad. — Cameron Wolfe

  48. ocalarob says:

The Defense played pretty good against the Jets, The real test will be on Sunday in MR Rogers neighborhood. Rogers hurt his throwing hand and elbow against the Pats, they have other injured players as well.

  50. Mike E. says:

I aced my vote thank you

Did you make a selection for Attorney General? (Don’t need to know who) I read an article last week about how so many people don’t know anything about the AG candidates in their states that more than 50% of people don’t vote for the state AG.

For a position with so much power in the state you would think people would take the time to LEARN about the candidate. The article also claimed that more than 50% of those who do vote for state AG’s don’t know anything about the candidate and just block out all the candidates from their party.

  53. Mike E. says:

Jimmy Graham was supposed to have a monster season, he’s done OK, but nothing special

  56. ElephantRider says:

Packers arent any good. They rely on Rodgers to do everything. Their playcalling is bland and predictable(not Big Joe’s fault). They could use a new coach infusion…
They traded away 2 starters for nothing. Something is coming in the offseason. Although Rodgers got a ring, I feel they’ve wasted much of his career *cough cough* seen it before.

    • ElephantRider says:

I’m not predicting a win, but it is possible. They arent a powerhouse by any means. Will take a few bounces to to go our way and for GB to make that big mistake that they have been doing lately.

Ever since I revealed my real first name to a dozen or so awesome men from this blog, I can’t tell if they are talking to (or about) me or the real, fake Tim.

LOL, it is kind of weird that I’m referred to as Tim when that’s not my name. I do like the old name Knight better which is what I was called by Tinshaker, 13kv and others. It’s more of a moniker than using a real name. Most of you know how the name Tim Knight was created, it was a mix of Tim The Enchanter and The Knight Who Says Ni! M13 put the name Tim Knight together for the Mob Madden football team and I just rolled with it from there.

But think about if your name is Fred and you use the name Jack as your online handle. It is kind of weird. LOL

He looks way slower than he did when he was with the Saints. I think TEs do slow down more than WRs because they are heavier and gain “slow” weight.
Plus I think he is slow mentally and also cares less now after the injuries and being shipped around like he has been.

      • Tim Knight says:

I agree. I thought that when I’ve seen him play this year. He looks like he lost a gear. He’s still dangerous though.

  60. Mike E. says:

ER – Were you talking about this Jimmy Graham?

    18. Miami Dolphins (5-4)
    Preseason rank: 32 | Week 9: 19

The Dolphins’ league-leading 15 interceptions have kept them competitive in the AFC playoff race.

9 games in the INTs are not coincidence at this point. Your take as to talent, scheme or a combo of both. And not like our pass rush has been doing all that much to force them.

  62. son of a son of a shula says:

Naples, similar thing with OD his name is Randy but not on here then we have Randy as well. The difference is that Randy is actually Randy unlike Tim who isn’t Tim.

  63. son of a son of a shula says:

Tim Knight, when you get together with blog people and your family or someone who knows you but not the blog and they call you son, Tim, Naples, Piggy… whatever they get a big kick out of it. First time my kids were around a blogger was the very first blog together it was Walker, Capt Stubbs and me. Walker came by the house and he’s calling me son and daughters were losing it. They still kid about it, lol. That was a long time ago.

    • Tim Knight says:

      LOL

The time Piggy almost sent his boss an email because of a copy and paste error that said “The 7 Samurai according to Piggy” still cracks me up to this day. If he did hit send, I would have loved to have been able to see his boss’ reaction. “The what according to what? What the fuck is he talking about?” LOL

  67. ElephantRider says:

    LOL Mike E…

I’ve seen enough GB to know hes lost a step or 2. Hes been a non factor most of the year. Think hes avg 3-4 catches and 40ish yards a game (not entirely sure). He had 1 big game and that’s it. Hes not the big play guy anymore.

  68. wyoming85 says:

  69. Mike E. says:

    Walker is now a white walker . . .

  70. ElephantRider says:

    Mike E

That being said…watch him torch us all day!

    • Mike E. says:

Wouldn’t be surprised. Even if he isn’t as fast as he used to be, you’d figure he’d be a tough guy to cover in the red zone, he always feasted in the endzone

  71. naplesfan2010 says:

Yes we have a randy and tim on here and that is me and my brother in real life but that is not me or my brother on here although there is a guy on here who also has a brother Randy who is neither OD nor the Randy that is on here.

  72. ElephantRider says:

I’ll refer to Tim as Naples and Naples as Tim for now on. Should end the confusion

LOL, it is kind of weird that I’m referred to as Tim when that’s not my name.

My bosses name is Rocky so it is weird for me when you guys called me Rock so I kind of get what you’re saying. You’ll always be Tim to me now.

  75. Rockphin says:

It’s weird whenever Wyoming is posting does not appear on my iPhone It just says Wyoming reply

  76. pheloniusphish says:

Before the fest I had images of what each of you looked like when I read or replied to your posts. Now, for those who were there, I see the real person. Since the first way was more fun, I now imagine outlandish images for those who were not there based on how they post.

  77. Mike E. says:

Rock – You can just call the 1st boss Rocky, and the other one Rocky II. 🙂

  78. Rockphin says:

Actually now that I think about it, it should’ve been S‘

  79. The Flying Pig says:

This is how I expect you guys to imagine me

  80. Rockphin says:

Does anybody know how to put a fucking space after a word on the iPhone without it changing the word to the suggested words !!??

I have typed Phelon 10 freakin times and it kept changing it to Phelan Which we all know is a “real” word and of course should be automatically substituted! I forgot what I was going to tell him It has taken me so long!!!

  81. Rockphin says:

Oh Jesus! File that under things that cannot be unseen!!

  82. pheloniusphish says:

thank you .. does that always happen at “Mid Terms ” ??
we don’t seem to have any rhyme or reason between National/Provincial, and Civic elections…
once there was rumblings that an election (I Believe Provincial) was going to be called inside the next calendar year.. a month later the in power party climbed above the opposition in polls and BAM they called an election .. not that i follow our politics either, but it just seems all willy nilly..
