Miami Dolphins and the offseason QB puzzle

One piece of the puzzle was filled yesterday with the Denver Broncos trading for Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco. The Ravens will receive a 2019 4th RD pick from the Broncos in exchange for Joe Flacco. If the Dolphins truly do intend to move on from QB Ryan Tannehill, they will first look to trade him, and now with Flacco traded for a 4th RD pick, the market has been set. The Dolphins probably wouldn’t get a 4th RD pick for the oft injured QB, but a 5th isn’t out of the question.

The bigger question is, what are the Dolphins intentions going into free agency, and then the draft? There are quite a few QB’s available that are average or below average, but there’s only one out there that that’s young-ish, that has potential to be more than average, and that’s 27YO Teddy Bridgewater. Nick Foles is not a FA, and the Eagles still have potential to franchise tag Foles, in order to be able to trade him. There is some controversy regarding that, and it’s understandable. Foles had a buyout clause in his contract, which was a hefty $20 contract, the buyout being Foles would have to pay the Eagles $2M to become a free agent. Considering the fact that the $2M should buy his fredom, it doesn’t seem fair that the Eagles should then be able to restrict his freedom by tagging him. We’ll see how this plays out.

Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum and Josh McCown are all QB’s I’d say for all intents and purposes are about equal to Ryan Tannehill. In my mind, it would make no sense to pay Tannehill $13.24M, and then turn around and give another $8-10M to one of the aforementioned QB’s. The only QB that could make sense is Bridgewater, if the organization felt like they make Bridgewater into a playoff caliber QB, and Bridgewater can make us a playoff caliber team. I don’t think he can, and I wouldn’t go that direction. I don’t think we need a bridge QB, we have 2 young QB’s on the roster, and I hope to have a 3rd after the draft.

Luke Falk, Jake Rudock, and whichever QB we snare in the draft. Let’s face it, we need a great QB here if we want to elevate this team. None of the guys in the previous paragraph are taking us there. Don’t waste time and money, draft the right QB, and run with him! Start the process now! We can draft another QB in 2020 if this QB looks like a dog, but hopefully that’s not the case. How many young QB’s do we see play every season? At least 4 or 5. Let’s be one of those teams. Just because Tannehill didn’t pan out, that’s not a reason to avoid drafting a QB, it’s the biggest reaso to go ahead and do it!

If you’re going to draft a QB not in the 1st round this year chances are you will need a veteran stopgap

    • D's avatar D says:

I think ya do even if ya get a guy in the first. It just keeps them from being forced on to the field. Those QB’s i suggested do kinda suck they are limited, but they understand the game, they have been longstanding vet’s and involved with some good QB rooms and since we arent worried about winning, the fact they suck doesnt really matter.

      • D's avatar D says:

Rob, for me, bringing in the vet isnt about having a guy who is good for us on the field getting wins its about intangibles in the field house, its about his leadership, etc.

  2. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Don’t need a stopgap vet at QB – We do have QB coaches. Just draft a young guy and run with it! Stop worrying that he can’t figure out what to do w/o freaking Matt Schaub telling him how to do it! lol

    • D's avatar D says:

Mike, having a guy who has been through it, who is a person for them to watch on the field etc hlps more than a guy explaining to you whats to do. Its not necessary but in a lot of the better transition situations. it has been better to have that.

  3. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Orob,
The QB position is not overrated. The NFL has done everything they possibly could….and will continue to do so….to make them the most impactful position on the field. Why? Because they believe they sell merchandise and tickets. They want scoring and that starts with the QB. They are protected and hyped like no other position on the team. The fact that they are overdrafted…and they definitely are….is just further validation of their importance. So, it doesn’t really matter whether a guy is truly a 2nd or 3rd round prospect. If he’s one of the top 3-5 QBs in a particular draft, you’ll probably have to get him in the 1st round. Their draft value may be overrated….but the QB position isn’t.
    ***
Tannehill is a perfect example. No way in hell was he a 1st round guy….let alone a top 10 guy…but because of the pressure teams feel to get a QB, he was drafted where he was. I’m not trying to rip Tannehill. He’s just one example of QBs being way overdrafted because of the premium put on the QB position. The NFL has made the position that important, sadly.

    • D's avatar D says:

Im in the same boat and minset as you Randy, it might should be an overrated position but its just not. The NFL isnt as balanced as it once was and the majority of what makes a team successful on offense is the QB. Thats not to say i dont think the running game is hella important, but the modern NFL is a passing league.

but you know what – Darnold and Allen are pretty low scores too
yeah they are rookies but they weren’t very good
Lamar Jackson and Rosen are actually just above Tannehill

I just didn’t think the 2018 crop of Qbs was so good
I think Haskins is better than all of them
and 2020 and 2021 both look better

so if you don;t might the wait….

  9. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

When thinking QB, you know he will have to be very smart. That is going to be a requirement of our new coaches. I was trying to find info regarding that with these top QB’s but couldn’t find much. I did look at the biggest negatives for my top 4. Murray is not in that group cause I think if you go with him your offense will have to be designed around him and therefore your backups will need to be like same in talent.
HASKINS – Negative – Poise – pressure up the middle brings out the worst in him. No pressure up middle and he is solid (probably same issue for most QB’s starting in NFL so not a real issue for me). Also, can freeze if first read is not there & has to reprocess.
LOCK – Negative – Mental Processing – consistency is an issue. Can sail the ball when pressured and feet not under him. Gunslinger mentality.
JONES – Negative – Ball Velocity – has strong arm but does not transfer to out routes. Focus’ to much on being accurate on those throws taking velocity off the ball. Could get eaten up by NFL CB’s on those routes. For a big QB, he has the best feet of them all.
Grier – Negative – Mechanics – throwing motion. Holds ball to long to make a play resulting in negative plays. Gunslinger mentality.
Reading up on these guys, I think my ranking would be Haskins – best pocket passer of them all, Jones – Great footwork, big, though and takes care of football, Lock – I believe the mental processing can be fixed. Grier- would be a toss up at this point for me and would probably take one later like the kid from Buffalo.

    • D's avatar D says:

Way i see them is Lock has the best potential but he has really only had good coaching for one year so he has some work to do, best arm of the group.

Jones is the best developed QB, and probably the most start right away guy. He’s got a really good arm too, just not as good as Lock. I almost lean a little towards Jones just because he is the most different from Tanny in the ways that i most disliked about Tanny.

Haskins to me has a lot of potential but im ore nervous about him because he is very similar to Tanny in the ways i didnt like Tanny. He is the riskiest of what i see as the top 3.

Grier i like a lot too, to me he is similar to Lock, but a little less potential for the high end of Lock’s seiling. I dont think Grier will ever be able to make the deep passes that Lock will but i think there is a little more in escapability and athletic ability with Grier and the short to intermediate passes, maybe even better accuracy at least at this point.

  14. BailBondMike's avatar BailBondMike says:

Looks like Steelers and Antonio Brown agree to part ways. Could he end up in AFC East? Buff or Jets? I think it’s buyer beware with him. He has huge production but I credit Big Ben with a good portion of that in his ability to extend plays. He won’t get that with any other team except for GB, IMO.

  15. D's avatar D says:

If you look at the prospect rankings (and of course thats pretty subjective in itself) you will see that the prospect rankings and the order players are drafted in arent the same. So this worth 13 not worth 13, etc. just isnt how that works.

  16. D's avatar D says:

I usually think about selections as risk reward. Haskins to me is riskier, he only has 14 starts, and OSU is a school where the QB success is based on their system and so far that hasn’t translated to the NFL well.

Id take him at 13, i dont think he is crap but those other guys are less risky to me.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think Haskins has the highest ceiling, but I’m not worried about how ready he is at the moment. On the other hand, if the coaches felt he can play, I’m fine with them starting him if they felt it wouldn’t be detrimental to his growth as a QB

Yes, and a lot of those teams are still looking for a QB after wasting years of draft capitol to move up to pick their specific bust.

I’m not advocating not taking one in the first round, just that we should not if the guy is a freak Jamarcus Russell.

So two of the three TVs were down and on the internet 4 out of 6 places were a no go (including here). Took him a couple hours but the cable guy eventually figures out that your cable box and WiFi router got in a fight sending conflicting IP addresses to each other and each went on partial tilt.

Am so behind the tech curve……and will never get back the six hours spent talking to India, installing the new DVR receiver (old one worked), and with the guy today.

    • D's avatar D says:

You have a thing called DHCP services and it seems like they are saying both your wifi and the DVR were acting as the DHCP for your wireless network. The DHCP services assign ip addresses to devices connected to the network and it seems maybe they were assignment fighting. Either that or they had conflicting IP schemes like 192.168.10.x and both were taking the primary address .1 which caused a conflict which causes a broadcast storm with each trying to lay claim to the ip and resulting in connections dropping.

    • D's avatar D says:

Very wierd if the DVR was set to be DHCP if you have a wireless router, that normally would only be done in the case that a person’s DVR was also acting as the wireless router.

DID ANY OF YOU notice Bucky Brooks’ Top 5 players at the various positions during a recent AAF broadcast on the NFL Network? He listed the Top 5 QB’s, receivers, etc. —AMAZINGLY. only 2 schools from the Sunshine State Division 1 schools made the list. ONE was an offensive Tackle from the Gators; the other was FAU running back Devin Singletary, who Brooks rated the 2nd best back in the upcoming draft!! NO PLAYERS from Miami. Florida State, UCF, USF and FIU were in the top 5 AT ANY POSITION!! ALSO, the following teams were conspicuosly absent: Notre Dame, Michigan State, Texas, Southern Cal, UCLA and many, many more big name programs had not a single player listed in the Top 5 at a specific position on Brooks’ list. Indeed, it seemed like this list was overflowing with players from Bama, Clemson, Mississippi State, and a couple more schools from the SEC. It’s truly amazing how far Miami and Florida State have fallen!! Simply put, they are being out recruited in their OWN BACK YARD!!
    ————————–
Everyone on this board knows how committed I am to having solid players at both the O-Line and the D-Line as the foundation for football success. But, as this sport continues to bend the rules in favor of the offense (Can’t even BREATHE on a quarterback) the formula for success is, more and more, headed in the direction of the quarterback position. That’s WHY I will forgive the new leaders of the Dolphins IF they decide to gamble on a QB in this upcoming draft. Personally, I believe the best of this group is the Heisman Trophy winner, himself (even if he’s only 5′ 3″ or so)!! He’s gotten it done against some truly outstanding opponents. But, assuming Murray is LONG GONE before Miami picks, I think the kid from West Virginia possiblly could be had in the 2nd round. Time will tell—that’s Grier the QB!

I responded “There IS NO WRONG TIME OF THE YEAR TO GET RED HOT!!” And the ’72 Dolphins PROVED THAT! The REAL HOPE THIS TIME OF THE YEAR is the hope to avoid serious injuries to key players. Back in 2015 the Lightning led the Black Hawks 2 games to 1 in the Stanley Cup Finals. Tampa Bay took an early lead in Game 4 at home but, in the 2nd period, goalie Ben Bishop took a serious knee injury and was lost for the rest of the Finals! 20 year old rookie Andrei Vasilevskiy replaced Bishop and the Lightning never won another game in the Finals. NOW, a 24 year old Andrei Vasilevskiy is having the season of his life, as are many other Lightning players. The Lightning are, unquestionably, the team to beat this season, especially if they can avoid the injury bugaboo.

  51. Some Recent mocks have jaguars taking Murray and Miami trading up for Lock

  52. Charlie Casserly from NFL.com. Says Murray will excite the fan base and make plays. Casserly claims that Murray is the best QB in the draft.

Murray is definitely the best QB in the draft, but might not be the first selected because he isn’t big enough for the prototypical size for a QB.

  53. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Definitely the best huh? Sheesh!

  54. D's avatar D says:

The Heisman is a bad measure of success for the NFL. Its really not relevant. You have some guys who have been ok or shown promise at some point but then others that completely busted. There seem to me more busts among the QB’s than any of the other Heisman winner position groups.

  55. D's avatar D says:

IMO the best fit for Murray is Arizona because the system that Jeff Klingsbury is supposedly going to try to run in the NFL is something that Murray would excel in, and it would fit his play style and limit the limitations he will have very well. Thats the absolute perfect fit for him and Arizona with that new coaching staff is in a position to rebuild specifically for a system that fits him.

I think that we COULD do the same, but i dont think with the staff we have assembled that we would be looking for a player like that, nor to re-do the offense in that way.

Oakland is probably the second most likely, but i dont really see it there either, not with a first round selection. I think Gruden is more old school and wouldnt be looking to re-invent offensive strategies b rolling out a offense that was built around Murrays skill set.

Jacksonville is a close 3rd. They have a pretty established offensive system and i dont see the new coach coming in as like to go crazy with a new system, tweak it sure, but not overhaul. Its not going to be a perfect fit for Murray, but they might be willing to tweak even harder and change some things up, i dunno. Id more expect them to grab Foles and keep their offense pretty similar, hopefully with a healthy Fornette.

I dont think any of the rest of the teams make a ton of sense for Murray until it go down to the teams that might wanna take a shot at chatching lightning in a bottle since they have no other real needs and the risk matched the potential reward. I could even see the Pats taking a late round chance on him. I think Arizona might be smart to trade back and select him, with the fact that he is going to not really match too many other teams like them. I think there would be little risk of them trading back to at least 3, where Oakland might be a threat, or 6 with NYG to at least stay in front of Jacksonville.

If i were the NYG’s id look to trade up too. They have a fairly established team they could trade up to 1, give up maybe a next years first and a 2nd or third from this year, take Haskins and then Oakland either takes a defensive player or Daniel Jones, who probably is right up Gruden’s alley. Then Murray may go to Jacksonville. Which could leave us a chance at Lock, but we might have to trade up to get in front of Denver to get him. I dont know how i feel about that but im pretty sure if all we had to move up to is 9, we arent going to be sacrificing a ton of draft capital. We could also stay put and take Grier, and possibly even be able to do that with a trade back. I think Grier is going to wind up being selected by someone in the first so i dont think we could try to wait to the second round for him.

If we miss out on Grier, im all for just taking a project guy in a middlish round and hoping to God we get a shot on a guy in the 2020 draft. Im not a fan of hoping on shit like that to fall in place for us though, so id rather we get a guy we like this year and that way if for some reason we still feel like we dont have our guy we can grab one of the guys in 2020 and see which one develops and takes the reigns. Better to have more options than less.

  56. D's avatar D says:

A couple guy i dont see anyone talking abotu on here that might not be bad “let see what we got” kind of guys would be Nick Fitzgerald and Kyle Shumur. I think Both of these guys might be a pleasant surprise get out of a middle round. Brett Rypien too.

  57. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

After watching a bunch of game film, I like Jones better than Lock. And even if Miami ended up with one of those, two, they should be aiming at drafting one of the top QBs next year too.

  58. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Looks like the Raiders are gonna be in Oakland for 2019 after all the fights with the city and alt stadium/alt city search. Reportedly will even include an option to be there in 2020 if the Las Vegas stadium isn’t ready.

Still can’t figure out how they screwed the pooch so badly on that one. Did they actually believe the completion date promised by their contractor before they signed the construction deal? Who does that?

  59. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Le’Veon Bell becomes a UFA March 13 so the drama is over. Now he can just go sign with some team and we don’t have to hear about him anymore. Until they start writing about him and his new team. LOL

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Bell being full of himself aside, he’s an amazing runner. And that wait and pick a hole style as planned rather than if doesn’t work out as thought was so knew. Think it takes a good OL to work like in Pitt though. He could be an over the top piece for some team, but my guess is he goes to whoever offers the most money.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Could be the Jets. Gase likes to win now. They have the money.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

He is still only 27. Jets could try to make a nice run centered around him. But then he is a guy you can center an O around and in some ways requires, least as far as scheme.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Watch him go to the Pats “for a chance at a ring” SMH grumble grumble grumble

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

They don’t need him. They do just fine with who they have. They like Sony Michel a lot and James White does a lot of good things. And as you know they always find some unknown guys to contribute as well.

  60. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Stanger, Bell would help Darnold a lot with his running and receiving ability.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

It would be a good fit with any strong-armed QB. And Darnold actually reminded me of Big Ben to an extent. Same time just happen to know more about the Jets. But am sure would be for many teams know less about. Think for Bell it will be about the cha ching and being the man though. And that fits in with the center of a rebuild.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The Jets have $102+M in cap space. They could pay him what he wants and it would barely put a dent in their cap.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I don’t get the “strong-armed” quarterback qualification. He would be a good fit for a noodle arm guy too. he is a running back not a speedy WR.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Rock — just think the ability to throw deep will open stuff up for Bell, especially as he is delaying his reads having the receivers run deep will take the defenders out and help with the play action as well.

Rock — just think the ability to throw deep will open stuff up for Bell…..

Ahhh, I see what your are saying. It can be as easily argued that Bell will open up the passing routes for the QB by making the D respect the run. yin / yang

BUT keep in mind we are talking Gase and the Jets. Gase will ignore the stud RB and have his “big arm” qb throwing screens or to the RB in the flats all day.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Yeah it works both ways, just don’t think Bell would be a good match for Pennington (who is the best noodle arm QB have seen). And Gase might be why they don’t sign Bell. At least not the offense he seemed to want here and tried his best to create.

There still will be some solid quality O-Linemen and D-Linemen/Edge players available in rounds 2 and 3. Hell, we could still get “a project” QB in round 5. As for Round 4, I’d pick the BPA. I know, I know. –This is a lot easier said than DONE, especially so during the Steve Ross ERA. But, hell, I’ve ALREADY PAID FOR MY 2 SEATS IN FULL for the coming season. Maybe THIS will be the year our Fins break their too long record for NOT winning a playoff game!?!?

OD, we need a QB more than anything, it’s so glaring. Tannehill, and Oswieller too, are terrible, we give ourselves no chance with either of them back there.
I like Grier and he was my favorite when the last season started and even though he was really good this year I just don’t see enough for me to stamp him for the NFL, think Matt Leinart.
Haskins is a big strong armed dart thrower who loves the game.
I hope we take a shot on someone. I can’t wait for the day that Tannehill isn’t a Dolphin.

I’ll say this about Gase, he was so limited in what he could do. Be that as it may he tied himself to Tannehill and got all the best from him.
*Not a single game with over 300 yards passing. Including the last 3 while still alive go the playoffs he failed to pass for over 200 in a single game. So it goes. It was more Tannehill than Gase but both being gone is best. Move on.
    Did we fire Tannehill yet?

  73. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I really hope we move on from Tannehill so I don’t have to read or hear about him anymore. I wish him luck wherever he goes. This team needs a new start top to bottom and it’s already started.

SON-OF-A-SON says “OD, we need a quarterback so much more than anything else.” HOW TRUE, HOW TRUE,” my friend. Yes, our recent “Offensive Genius” HC was better at picking gum wrappers than he was at developing our QB. And Philbin’s successor, Adam Gase, may be a “Quarterback Whisperer,” but NO ONE’s getting the message! ROSS’s list of failures would fill a big page. Suffice it to say he’s been an utter failure at picking or approving selections for the position of Head Coach.

Maybe, this time, he finally got it right.

  83. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’ve got to admit… this truly is the first time in my football-loving, blogging-doing, GM/scout-wanting-to-be, college talent-assessing, Miami Dolphins LIFE that I don’t know what to expect this offseason.

I don’t know what to make of the ’19 “tanking” reports from (a) highly-decorated local sports writer(s), the national media (which is ALWAYS clueless) reports that we’ll sign one or both of Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown, Steve Ross’ new direction after firing Adam Gase because he wanted to “win now” (when there was beef between the two at the end of the year), and the possibility that the multitude of injuries we sustained last year may have single-handedly derailed us last season.

I’m geared to building a winner ASAP (aren’t we all?!!)… and if this is to be a ‘reset season’, I have absolutely no idea WTF to do. IMO(?)… I feel like we could be back to the playoffs this coming season if we draft correctly, add the right FAs, and if we finally have the proper coaching.

IF we draft a QB early this year, the idea is that we don’t get the kid killed or turn him into a future David Carr, behind the lackluster O-Lines we’ve deployed over the last two decades… and it would be nice if that kid could learn behind a vet QB, instead of throwing him to the wolves in year 1… especially if we end up drafting a 1-year starter in college, as we did with Tannehill.

LOTS to think about, and I’m at a total loss!
    GO PHINS!!!
    HELL YEAH!!!

  84. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

A couple thoughts for anyone interested:

James: I don’t know if I’d pay James or not honestly. But if I was tasked with the decision my process would go like this: 1) how long before we contend? 2) Will James be at the top of his game at that time? 3) If yes, then sign him, if no then let him walk and look for younger opportunities in the next two drafts.

That said there are lots of holes to fill, both guard spots included on the Offensive side of the ball. If you think you’re never going to rebuild the entire OL before we’re a contender, you’d be wise to keep your bookend tackles and focus your effort at QB and G.

Regarding Antonio Brown. I am not advocating for him in Miami, so make no mistake about the following: He has without a doubt in my mind been the best WR in the entire NFL for at least the last 3 years. There are other great WRs in my mind, but who among them has seen the double and triple teams AB has? I think Ben is a good QB, but I don’t attribute very much of ABs success to his QB. I think AB by himself merits his contract (indeed, the top contract in the league right now IMO) and if this team was a WR away, I’d do everything in my power to get him. He’s a future HOFer in his prime, and they don’t come along but once every few years.

All that said, I don’t pretend to know what happened with him in Pittsburgh this year regarding the off the field stuff. If I knew something about that I might have an opinion. I don’t see this as a Mike Wallace situation though, only similarity is the team and the position.

  85. D's avatar D says:

Jahn if you are reading now. Do you know the guys from heretic brewery?

  86. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

When thinking about this team at this time moving forward think “team first”, young, cheap, smart and tough. I don’t see us making splash moves. At least not in 2019.
2019 – cap clearing and transforming the culture
    2020 – build on the 2019 core
2021 – make some key additions and go contend

  87. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

D, you’ve long gone at this point, but yes. The founder of Heretic, Jamil Zanishef wrote one of the most influential books in home brewing: brewing classic styles. So many brewers, myself included, cut their teeth brewing beer per his book. I won a large competition best of show award with a recipe from that book. I also have had the chance meet him a couple times, super good guy. Anything from that brewery is worthy. You have good beer taste my friend.

  89. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

    Hi Jahn.
If we can’t come to terms with James I think we may transition tag him, if the price becomes too high let him walk or if it doesn’t we can match it. as we have time to rebuild.

as for AB, i doubt we need the drama from that guy, Big Ben is the reason he is good just like Wallace and Smith Schuster. no need to make the same mistake twice.

  90. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

i tried to support tannehill, and i give him credit for being injured and trying to make a comeback. i dont think he’s that bad but he’s not a guy that can carry a team. he needs a strong running game due to his lack of pocket awareness. he will certainly have a job in the nfl this year, i would think the redskins may get him in a trade.
for miami it’s time to move on, he’s like stale bread, if ross were to keep him around and that same stale bread shows its ugly head the fans would be disinterested in rosses product.

  91. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Jahn – I think we should re-sign James. With better RG play, James is just fine. Also, I couldn’t disagree more about AB. AB get s so many big plays because he’s just running around free because Ben extended the play, and you know how hard it is to cover a guy for 6 seconds or more. The Steelers O-Line and Ben make AB better than he actually is. Put him on the Dolphins, especially last season’s Dolphins, and AB doesn’t get anywhere near the yardage he got in Pitt.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I watch the Steelers a lot because of FF, and that O-line is so damn good, and Ben has guys hanging all over him, and he keeps the play alive, and then AB gets free, and BOOM, another big play. Last season JuJu was as good as AB.

      • D's avatar D says:

Thats because he is a QB who is built like a Linebacker with a whopper a day habit. Between he and Sebastian Janikowski it always shocks me when i see them run on the field and line up at their positions lol

  92. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Sorry to keep rambling, but the JuJu – Big Ben connection is a big reason why Big Chest Brown wants out. It should be Big Head Brown, because his ego can’t stand that JuJu got almost as many targets he did. He’s so frustrated because Ben stopped stroking him.

  93. D's avatar D says:

I think AB is an amazing receiver and I think the comparison to Wallace is a bad one as to what to expect in regards to who ever signs him. I do think Big Rape is part of the equation as to why AB has produced so well but AB is also a big part of that reason too. My problem with AB is that we have seen diva receivers go this route before and their play drops of the more obsessed they become with themselves. I think AB is going to have trouble getting out of his own way moving forward. TO was an amazing receiver, Chad Johnson was too, OBJ, but they were a little better when they let their spectacular play speak for them. I’m sad to see AB go that route but I’d stay away from him at this point, especially with us in a rebuild.

  94. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think Big Chest should go to the Colts

    • D's avatar D says:

New Orleans, San Diego, and Colts also make sense. Those are all teams poised to make a jump at the Superbowl and they might need that final piece to set them over the top. Maybe even the Eagles and Cowboys too. I would add Rams but they aren’t going to be able to afford him with the money they have invested on the defensive side of the ball.

i told you tannehill blows chunks

So this guy goes to the local bar on his 21st birthday. He has never had a drink before and one of his older friends is the bar tender there.

The kid gets to the bar and tells his friend, well, I’m legal now…I want the whole experience.

His buddy the bartender says “alright, give me your keys your taking a cab home tonight.”

The bar tender then proceeds to pour him drink after drink after drink of everything he can think of so his neophyte friend can have the “whole experience” . He get’s the kid shit faced falling down drunk and then wishes him a happy birthday and pours his ass into a cab home.

The next day the kid comes back to the bar to get his keys and car and his buddy the bar tender asks him “so, how was it” The kid says “I don’t want to talk about it” The bartender says “come on it can’t be that bad, what happened after you left last nigh.

The kid says “it was awful, I’ve never been so out of control in my life. I feel so sick and ashamed”
The bartender says “come on, it can’t be that bad! What happened?”
The kid says “Ok, but don’t tell anyone. Last night, after I got home I blew chunks.”
Bartender: “what? that’s all? Man, anybody who drinks as much as you did last night is going to throw up”
Kid says “No! you don’t understand!! Chunks is my dog’s name!”

  96. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

D – Yeah man, Ben is a BIG boy. He’s also fearless, he never shies from taking a hit and hangs on to the last second to make a throw.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

Totally agree on Ben, and that style is why he’s probably going to retire soon. Big or not, he’s taken a LOT of hits over the years.

  97. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

    Mike E,

I trust your opinion on AB is well founded from watching the games but we’ll have to agree to disagree because I’m an uber nerd when it comes to WR play, and NOBODY in the nfl can routinely beat double teams and even triple teams the way AB has. Juju played great, and if he’s ready for #1 status his numbers should go up big time next year when he’s not splitting targets with AB. I think it’ll be a longer road to hoe for him without AB distracting mulitple DBs every play.

I acknowledge that Ben is his QB and deserves his credit too, but I just think AB is the best in the business and his play would’ve made any inferior QB look better last year.

Not advocating for him here to repeat, he’s just not a good fit for what we’re doing. I also do fear the diva things that D refers too so caveat emptor.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think AB is great, definitely one of the best, but I think you discounted Ben in your statement. Sure, if you put him on the Saints, Colts or Rams, he’ll be just about as good, but put him on the Cardinals, Dolphins, Bills, and he’s not putting up those numbers. Of course, that can be said about many professional athletes in any sport.

  98. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Jahn – It’s one of the reasons why I think Joey Votto may be one of the most underrated players in MLB. That guy hits no matter who is in the lineup with him. He’s amazing.
