The Dolphins have a decision looming, do they re-sign their own former 2014 1st RD pick (#19), or do they try and replace him. It’s not as easy as a decision as some might think. While James is not an elite RT, especially in the sense of the “old” prototype of a right tackle, who was usually not a very good pass blocker, but usually a road grader on the right end of the line. In fact, James is the polar opposite of that, he’s a very good pass blocker, but his run blocking skills after 5 seasons are still somewhat lacking.
The Miami Dolphins offensive line has been in flux for too long. Last season we signed former pro bowl OG Josh Sitton after the Bears declined to re-sign him, and Sitton didn’t make it past game 1 before being placed on season ending IR. Center Dan Kilgore, who the Dolphins traded a 7th RD pick for with the Niners didn’t make it that much further as he was placed IR after game 4. The Dolphins had already decided to give journeyman Jesse Davis a shot at the RG spot, and Davis started and finished all 16 games, but his play was just marginal, average or less than average.
At LG, good ole Ted Larsen started 13 games but played in 15 for the Dolphins as the Dolphins really had little depth left with both Sitton and Kilgore both out for the season before the first quarter of the season was finished. It’s really come down to a numbers game, and the numbers are not in our favor. We basically have 1 starter at the moment, Laremy Tunsil, if we decide to move on from James. I know this season is going to be a bumpy one, but if we have to try and bring in 4 new starters on the OL, that’s quite an undertaking. It’s possible we keep Kilgore and Larsen, their salaries are palatable (even if their play isn’t always). Between the 2 players they will come out to about $5M in salary. Even if both are kept for depth only, I think that’s doable.
The other part of the equation is that James has played the entire season and then the following year, injuries limited him to playing half the season or less twice. In ’14 James started all 16 games. In ’15 he played and started only 7. In ’16 James started all 16 games, in ’17 James was limited to starting only 8. Last season James started and played in 15 games. You know what’s coming in ’19, right? I actually don’t believe in those kind of things. I think James will be fine this season. Where he will play is another story.
If I were the GM, I’d keep the steady pass blocking RT because he’s young He’ll be 27 when the season starts, and because he is a good pass blocker, a very good one. His consistency could be a little better, but considering the fact that he had a journeyman next to him all last season, and Davis definitely had his struggles, I think James is a keeper. He will probably get somewhere between $8-12M per year, but I think it’s worth it. He’s going to get that for sure from another team, and I loathe to let our own 1st RD pick leave. I’d re-sign him. Your thoughts?

Re-sign at the right price. Im not making him the highest paid OT or anything stupid like that but 12mil per seems to me like it would be a fair offer.
Soy el primero!
Felicidades! Eso es muy bueno!
The draft has been a crap shoot for OL recently, even 1st rounders, much better to go with what we have and what we know is better than average for NFL standards than roll the dice again. Id probably still draft an OT/OG in a later round to develop and be a backup, maybe even day 2, but i would rather re-sign James and put OL down a tiny bit as far as priority. If we let James walk, then we better either go and get an OL in FA we are really confident in, or draft a guy very early, maybe even 1st round.
Also just following up from the discussion yesterday where Mike said he would be disappointed if we didnt draft a QB this upcoming draft. I am right there with him on that. If we dont at least take a guy in the higher middle rounds that can possibly win out the QB competition, id be extremely disappointed. I really feel we need to go big at QB this year if one of the top three are available at 13. If they aren’t im ok with trading back and getting one of them in the late first, like Grier, or the second round.
I think with the depth of DL and OL, there is plenty of talent thats going to be spilling out into the 2nd and 3rd rounds, i wouldn’t push for one in the first, unless we push ourselves into a situation where we have to get a dominant guy who starts right off.
QB and WR are pretty weak classes this year and only a few really stand out, so if i got a chance at one of the ones i really liked, i dont let it pass by (especially if we try to trade Stills, which i have heard rumored). The only pitfall we should avoid in this draft is trading up and losing draft resources this year.
—————-
Also means there’s a solid case to trade him (very reasonable number for a starting QB).
My response to Breer and his solid case for keeping Tannehill is a solid case for blowing chunk!
RE-Sign!!!
I’ve been saying what Breer is saying for months now
Keep him – just don’t get attached
Maybe some one needs a QB in Sept and will overpay (trade wise) for him
Except thats not a real number, 18.725. He is 26.6+. Spin it how ya want, you dont consider the base salary only when you are looking at this shit, you look at the whole thing. Still, if you are looking at it as 18.725 then you make even more of a reason not to reclain the 13.2 because if thats the way you are looking at it, technically we are only wasting 5 mil, not 13.
Incidentally im aiming the “i call bullshit” attitude towards Breer and not you piggy.
Speaking of bullshit, this hearing with Michael Cohen is beyond bullshit. What is the purpose of this hearing?
I mean if ya wanna look at base salary, then Roethlisberger is 12mil, Arron Roger is 13.4, Tom Brady is 14. Drew Brees is 11.05, etc etc. How “affordable” is he now when all these elite and top money QB’s make less? Matt Ryan 11.5. In fact i only found two Qb’s higher, Kirk Cousins and Jimmy G (Jimmy G was only slightly higher)
I can’t even comprehend how they would have been allowed to tag him. What would the purpose be of having a buyout clause in his contract if they could then franchise tag him? Seems like a breach of contract, no?
Yes, that would seem like a breach of contract if they were to tag him. I’m reading that this decision to allow him to walk was ratified by all parties. In short, seems like Foles wants to get PAID, and the Eagles are giving him his wish for solid service.
Mike E,
Yeah, I’m watching the Cohen testimony and haven’t gotten the chance to read your article. I’ll get back to you on your article, and I won’t be speaking about Cohen on this blog.
It all depends on what the new regime thinks of James and what they’re willing to pay him. I have no idea what they’ll do. As a fan I’m indifferent.
Sign James.
^
Before even read the article — found this most interesting from last post: “I had a big lock box to keep my narcotics in that customs was not allowed to open”. People on this board never cease to come up with new and surprising stuff. 🙂
Where did you keep yours?
Never tried to smuggle anything — oddly enough except cuban cigars — through customs. And certainly never had that box.
Rectum?
Martez Ivey is one of the UF OT’s that i wouldn’t mind picking up in the draft. Both are pretty good, Ivey has physical gifts than most the rest do not. He need to work on some things but i think he could be a early mid round guy that could wind up as good as James if not better. Would be a perfect swing tackle fr us because he has played both OT positions.

——————————————-
Was it a buyout or an option? If it was a buyout, yeah i would think that wouldn’t be fair, for him to have to pay his way out of the contract and then them slap a FT on him. If it was an option, where he had the option to get out of it, i dont see any issue with that because he is opting out of the contract not necessarily playing for that team. He gets the FT he would be making over 26mil for that one year contract, so im sure if its a option to get out, he just wants to make sure he doesnt get screwed out of money he could be getting.
Buy out. He paid like $2M to buy out the contract.
Then yeah that seems there would be a problem if they were able to FT him right after. If anything it would be a super shitty move on their part.
Mike E — your article does a lot to point out how much work we need on the OL, especially given the age of who might start. Same time worry that we will sign James for big money just cause of that. Never been real impressed…. and last thing ever saw was the kind of gamer guy am fond of.
Maybe depends on how big we are going into the rebuild. No doubt if doing waiting till 2021, I say no to James. He’s gonna cost a lot.
IMO if you say no to James you have to have a contingency plan, what is yours? FA? Draft a guy? Are you not worried about weakening the OL when you are going to be bringing in a rookie QB within the next year or two?
For me would be is James a guy you want to sign to a high-priced 4 year contract. Wouldn’t go much beyond that. And I am the type of guy who if not worried about the 2020 season would go OL in the first 3 rounds and DL in the next 3.
It may be wise to keep Tannehill, I think his lack of production was due to multiple reasons, I think the offensive scheme was flawed, the injuries to the OL, also Tannehills injuries
No way i keep him at his current salary. I have said before if you want to change his contract to make him be paid like a transition QB, so be it, but he is getting more than that right now so i definitely cant see keeping him when he will cost us 26.6 mil next year.
I wouldn’t concern myself with money, there’s really not a lot of money to be saved by dumping him that will make a difference to this team. Especially if they plan to compete, any good QB will cost big $$$ and long term, Tannehill is not long term and the difference is 13 mil, looking at other NFL QBs seems like a bargain to me, not to mention he has a rapport with the skilled players on this team which another QB won’t have.
Whether they plan to compete is the key factor….. just like about everything else.
On the other hand if we are dumping T hill and If Jax signs Foles that’s one less team in front of us QB needy
We’d be smart to try and trade him to another of the teams ahead of us looking for a QB, even if we didnt get much in return.
My thoughts as well, O-Rob.
Guess the big Q on this is what does “contravened the agreement” mean. And those cannucks are real nice about how they phase such. Except for Toba of course.
we could keep Tannehill and draft one of the 4 projected 1 rnd QBs and have him hold a clip board next year, he’d be ready for the start of 2020 and we dump T Hill then.
I still havent figured out the angle you guys are looking at this where it makes sense to keep Tanny. If we arent trying to win next year, he saves us 13mil and we can add a guy, even if we want to have a vet here that will be cheaper. If we dont want to add a vet and roll with what we have we save the full 13. If we trade him we save even more. He’s a last regime hold over, and i cant see what he offers us that makes him worth keeping. Not saying you guys dont have a point but i cannot see it and i have tried. I also dont see how at 26.6 he is a bargain.
I could see keeping RT this year unless someone like the skins make a good offer. James I would let walk and take the comp pick next year.
Good point about the comp pick. Probably could get a 3rd or 4th for him. Still not sure he is replaceable like that but it does bring something to consider that i previously hadnt.
That’s the thing phelon. Like or hate either of them. Tanny we have, and keeping him for another year yes means money, but also means the cut hit is less next year. To keep James means money and years.
There is no cut hit, there is cut savings…..
Will take that as a Tanny bash….. am sure you got the point though. Keep him one more year and 2020 situation as far as his contract is better than now.
By the time they are competitive James will be 30.
OL are usually good until their mid 30’s so i think he is still young enough to have at least 4 more years of quality play.
James has something to contribute, he has been our best OL over his career, Tunsil is starting to come into his own just now, but James has been playing at a well above average level for his entire time. Again, if we can get him signed for 12per on a 4 year contract, thats as high as i would go but i would make that offer for sure.
The issue with James for me is he seems to get some odd injuries that forces him to miss quite a few games. But Grier has said he would like to keep him so that’s all that matters.
I hope they keep RT just to see Son’s head explode.
LOL
I assure you, it will!
Looks to me from reading an article about the Johnny Manziel outing, was he violated contract details and the way they spoke about the violations it seemed more like he violated conduct clauses than it did he violated the contract in a business sense. They also apparently mediated things and gave him options to not be kicked out of the league, and he refused those options. IMO Johnny Football is back to being Johnny Partytime, or probably never really stopped being Johnny Partytime, just didnt get as much press after he faded from the NFL spotlight.
It also looks like he is banned from playing in the league, not just cut by the one team.
Phelon – Have you been watching the Michael Cohen hearings? Damn if I didn’t see your doppleganger. There was a cameraman to the top right of the screen about 2 hours ago that totally reminded me of you. Granted, I’ve only met you once, but I have nearly a photographic memory.
So if i post a really disturbing picture on here, you will never forget it?
Possibly
The tank thing was always a silly thing to say. The nature of rebuilding usually incurs some short term regression, but when people take that and make it a like there’s a referendum to go out there and try to lose games, that’s what twists the rebuilding idea into something it’s not. It’s just the opposite of what the NY Mets are doing. The Mets traded away young assets to acquire older talent to win now. We’re going to jettison older players in order acquire young talent so that in a couple of years, we’ll have a young team that has grown together into a team that knows how to play together and that should breed success.
“I have nearly a photographic memory.” — talk about new info.
Mike E — at D&B’s last fest what shirt was I wearing?
I wouldn’t remember that unless my mind had a reason to remember it. If I hadn’t played pool with Phelon, I might not have such a clear image in my mind of what he looks like, but we spent some time together, so my memory is there.
Believe it was Manning to MIami…..but that could have been the year before. 🙂
I’m betting a Thundercats Panthro tee. 😉
ROFLMAO!!! Kong LOL
Stanger – The fact that no one in the organization has said anything support of Tannehill has to lead you to think he’s out of here. I can’t even imagine them trying to sell to the fans that they’re going to trot Ryan Tannehill out there for another season and expect things to be better. I think his time has expired and he’ll either be traded or cut. Drafting a QB this year to compete with Falk and Rudock seems like a logical path, and although some people would chalk that up to tanking again, did the Bills, Cards, Jets and even the Browns draft QB’s to tank last year? You know the answer is no.
Yeah the silence on him is deafening.
Not like am on the keep Tanny bus and darn sure he doesn’t seem like the future, but a part of me still thinks who knows at least. The other part wonders who is better who is out there? And think he’d be a fine place holder/back up until a rook was ready to go. Might even take less money.
Here is another food for thought item. If we cut Tannehill and resign James to a 12mil per contract, we still save 1.2mil in cap savings…..

Rectum?
Rectum? Damn near killed him!
So Mikey can remember everything if he cares to remember it, and Stanger cant remember shit, not eve what he wore to the Fest just a few months back…..
And Toba will never forget his last trip to Cuba!
I also find it convenient that Mikey says he has a near photographic memory, and yet the caveat is “if he took the time to commit it to memory” so how do you ever confirm that lol.
it was before the stroke.
Ouch! I have a very good memory for faces, it’s a thing. I always recognize actors or actresses from other TV shows and movies, even if they had minor roles. I’m not claiming if you put a list of 100 things, I can look at it and then remember all of them. This is like the tanking thing, getting all blown out of proportion.
D — you remember what shirt you had on 10/20/18? Pretty darn sure what was wearing 10/21/18 though. Get your ass to the Fest and all will be clear. Even have a canine who performs, and well.
D – I should rephrase what I said. It’s not so much a reason to remember it, or a commitment to remember it, it’s just usually tied to another memory that helps me remember it.
Mike E — I’m just an old man these days. Can’t remember much of anything but some memories clear in sensorama. Like how taken your oldest was with Digg’s daughter and you with Omar. 🙂
I have to ask my son if he remembers Diggsy’s daughter. I did think it was very cool that Omar met up with us, and I think I felt his pain, he looked nervous as all hell, as if he may have made a mistake.
He made a mistake alright, turning into the pretentious prick he is today.
And you did a good job making him feel welcome….. so even as was hitting on you was actually giving props. Something not right in how he was with his fans though, but we each have our own devils to deal with.
And yeah B will remember her. Only Q is if he is now too cool for school to admit how much now. Pretty clear from last year he’s experienced “the quickening” (Highlander) that comes with college.
Mikey file this!

I think this guy just really had to take a massive shit.
Out of his neck? lol
All he needs is a cigar!
Or this

Can you imagine the fucked up dentist who put in those implants? Hot damn, that is crazy
You would think somewhere along the line someone would have said, look this is getting fucking stupid
Well I’ve always identified as a cat with nails as whiskers so don’t judge me.
Mike, I’m the same way with faces. I do that all the time with actors and actresses. I don’t always remember their names but I’ll go search who it is and link it to the movie or show I remembered them in.
Yeah man, I didn’t mean to make any boastful claims, just that when I see a face, I usually remember it.
LOL, I was going to post some weird people pics too for Mike to remember forever.
LOL @ Rob
Stanger – I asked Brian, no offense to Diggsy’s beautiful daughter, but Brian doesn’t remember her at all. lol
I had a feeling, it was a while ago, he was young.
He sure did know who she was that day. We were all in your van from the Ramada. And he was like 16 and not drinking….. he still knows.
Mike, remember when I first saw what you looked like and said you looked familiar, not sure where but maybe you held a door for me or vice versa somewhere? I remember faces from stuff like that. We’re both from NJ so it’s not impossible that we crossed paths.
Yes, I do remember that.
I still think it happened. I mean I’ve met you since so there’s that. But when I saw what you looked like I was like I know this guy from somewhere. That’s the memory thing. I feel it was somewhere in your neck of the woods. My B-I-L lives in Ewing and a cousin lives in Kendall Park. So I’ve been out and about in that area over a couple of decades a bunch of times.
Funny thing hit me a couple of weeks ago. I’m doing some freelance work and a new client talks like the Jerky Boys which made me remember you and I driving to the MetLife takeover together with you and I doing those voices during the drive. I have to say, I’m pretty good with voices, but you have that one down. LOL
Based on what this new regime is saying, whatever players that are on this team, they’re going to be challenged early and often both mentally and physically. If we want to be multiple there is going to be a lot put on their plate. Might as well get it started from the get go, make mistakes, learn from it and keep passing it onto the next group added each year until the “the way we do it” becomes a foundation.
Sitton expects to be released, payed him all that money, didn’t he get hurt the first game?
https://sports.yahoo.com/report-josh-sitton-expects-released-114631722.html
Older player, went down in the first game for the season as you said, makes some decent coin, won’t be part of the future. Guys like him are most likely gone. Kilgore might be a guy who sticks around another year during the transition. He’s a little younger not as expensive but also went down for the year in game 4 ironically enough in the Pats game.
I just think J James has excellent athleticism in the run game. He’s one of the few tackles that can pull like a guard. He also blocks on the second level really well and even further downfield.
He basically stonewalled Kahlil Mack and was the main reason we won that Chicago game.
We have enough problems (holes) without making another one we don’t need to make.
We need to draft whoever the next Aaron Donald is (or Calais Campbell). And there are several out there. We need a playmaker anchor in the middle of the DL.
We also need a certified sack master on the edge. I like that guy Charles Omenihu – Edge – Texas
Omenihu could become a strong two-way end for the Dolphins, possessing the strength to play the run and motor to attack quarterbacks.who can both set the edge and ruch the QB. (nfl.com)
Funny you mentioned this. I agree we need that interior DL leader. I like both Godchaux and Taylor. But we need to add a special player to them. Also on the edge. You never know maybe Harris breaks out but we need more than one anyway. I feel like McMillan, Baker, Minkah and X will be the leaders of the back end for years to come. Good, young starting foundation to build on.
Reuter also has us taking Devin Singletary – RB: Florida Atlantic in round 2
Singletary’s ability to cut on the move and power through tackles will serve him well on Sundays. Though impending free agent Frank Gore ran well in 2018, he ended the year on injured reserve and the Dolphins may want to find a younger back.
I hope not. With Drake and Ballage we go RB in the 2nd? I say no way.
And he says we go QB @ 13.
Drew Lock – QB Missouri
It appears Ryan Tannehill is on the way out. The Dolphins could trade up to ensure they get the new signal-caller they want, whether it is Lock, Murray or Haskins.
You guys with your memories of clothing crack me up. I couldn’t even tell you what shirt I wore today if I didn’t have it on still.
Memory science does say though what you are saying Mike E. If you tie a discrete fact or a face or whtever to an unforettable “event,” you can remember almost anything almost indefinitely.
Tell me what you were doing at 9AM in the first Tuesday of September, 1976 when you guys were all about 6 – 10 yrs old. I can tell you what I was doing then.
OK so you pick any random date and ask me. (and no, I don’t remember WW2 firsthand, you young bastards)
Humans can do this.
I was Bar Mitzvahed Saturday September 4th and the party was Sunday September 5th. No idea what I did on Tuesday though, I was probably in school because the 5th was Labor day.
btw
Bucky Brooks picks us to take Jonah Williams – OL: Alabama @ 13
“The impending release of Josh Sitton and the free agent status of Ja’Wuan James could make Williams the ideal selection at this pick. The Alabama standout is a rock-solid player with the potential to play at guard or tackle as a pro.”
Think trenches for sure. Doesn’t mean it has to be 1st rd, but could be.
Hint: remember your teacher’s name and then where you lived.

It’s been said we never forget anything, but we choose to not remember most things as mere trivia that the brain pushes back into deep storage becuase it’s not needed.
Until it is.
I’m friends with my grammar school music teacher on FB as are many of my classmates and friends. She taught us well. We all liked her and still do. Social media can be bad but wonderful too. Just like everything else, how you go about it.
LIGHTNING and RANGERS tied 3-3, start of the 3rd period. But I’ve got to hit the sack b/c I’m flying on my thrice yearly sojourn to Baltimore for one of the larger shows on the numismatic circuit at the Inner Harbour. Up at 3:00 AM, meet 2 coworkers about 4:20 at the office and head for Tampa Int’l for a stupid early flight. Reminds me of my Army days, except I’m making a helluva lot more money now than I was in Dick Nixon’s Army.
Will return late Saturday night and, for sure, sleep in on Sunday. Talk to you folks then!
Tim – I look familiar to you because you think I look like Diamond Dave. lol
No that was later. You both have the same smile.

Yesterday’s Michael Cohen hearing was really a disgrace. Both parties were focused on their own agendas, and it was really annoying to watch. Every Dem was looking for their piece of hide from Trump, and every Rep was looking to discredit Cohen. It was a sham. My only question, or reservation I had about the whole proceeding was as the Rep’s were tearing down Cohen’s reputation as a proven liar, the Dems were saying how is this different from any criminal who turns evidence against his co conspirators? That’s all fine and good, but President Trump is NOT on trial, and this was not court case with charges being presented. It was an open forum with a hand picked guilty, lying man as the star witness for the witch hunt.
Yeah thats kinda my take on it, that and it was click bait for the different media outlets to further their agendas as well.
No one is on trial
Cohen is already going to prison. The hearing was coordinated by the oversight committee, they are just taking testimony from one somenone who they they know worked with a Trump and has turned against Trump.
The oversight committee is specifically designed to oversee all the allegations of impropriety by the President – so they take the testimony of a witness who voluntarily agreed. (I’m pretty sure Cohen, on his last breathe of life, voluntarily agreed to salvage his reputation for when he gets out of prison, which is probably a long shot)
Under the constitution the House brings an impeachment charges and the senate does the trial. The trial will have a collection of different evidence including testimony taken under othenin congress. No one person is a star witness – there are a lot of parts. I would expect more hearings in the future bc the House has subpoena powers
I’m just giving you a heads up on where this is heading.
The House (which is an majority democrats) is going to vote on impeachment and are probably ready to do that, but the senate will likely acquit (like Clinton was acquitted) based on yesterday IMo
Is it a a lot of politics and people with an agenda – yes
Is Cohen an admitted liar with little credibility – yes
I think both are right but I also think this is the design of our consitituion and the way a democratic republic works
I don’t think it’s a great idea to get into this on this blog – I’m trying not to insert my opinion about Trump in this post to discourage that debate and I’m just focusing on procedure and what i predict will happen
Yesterday was the house’s first step in impeachment and I think that’s inevitable
But impeachment isn’t what it’s commonly understood to be. It’s not a finding of guilt after the presumption of innocence. There is still a senate trial.
I don’t think there’s ever been a guilty finding after trial
Nixon resigned before the impeachment
Clinton was acquitted by the senate
Andrew Johnson (president before Lincoln during the civil war) was acquitted by the senate
If you don’t like politics – you hate syesterday
If you don’t like the democrats – you hated yesterday (bc they hold the cards in the House right now)
But it’s interesting to me and I think people should be aware where this is heading
Oh I know what went down yesterday, and I’m fully aware it wasn’t a trial. That was my point. They basically had a hearing all designed around a lying disgruntled former employee of the President who is heading to prison. It was also a ton of hearsay, with no corroborative evidence, just his word. If we’re being honest, it was basically done to bring down the popularity of the President, and give the Dems a better shot in 2020. I don’t think Trump will be impeached.
He’s going to jail for, among other things, violation of federal finance laws
He presented a check from Trump to demonostarte that Trump was an active participant in that
A check is corroborating evidence, not hearsay
Most of what he said was just opinions, allegations and hearsay – I tend to agree with that. From my point of view (a devout Trump hater but a cynic) I say he didn’t say anything I didn’t already know
I tend to agree with you that the upshot for the dems is that they drag Trump in the 2020 election – and I don’t politcal angle, but I still think it’s proper process
I wouldn’t rule out the senate finding Trump guilty or be dismissive bc Cohen is a “disgruntled employee” and I would expect a lot more of what we saw yesterday in 2019
FYI –
The actual impeachment is inevitable. Like I said, That’s not removal of the President or the trial by the senate – that’s just the House vote. So he will probably be impeached, but he may be acquitted or may never be removed before the 2020 election
I put the likelihood of impeachment at about 90%
But impeachment doesn’t mean what people say it means
It’s really just analogous to an indictment
The senate does the trial
And so far, historically, winning that trial will is 0%
We have 2 Aquitals and a Resignation
No President has ever been removed from office or really even close
I don’t even know what happens after a guilty finding – there’s no historical precedent
Thanks all for the b-day wishes.
So Kyler Murray is bigger than thought.
Well, that certainly does change everything, he’s about the same size as Russell Wilson
Even if he wasnt 5’10 i had heard he was at least 5’9 and 3/4 so IMO that little deficiency in height doesnt change much. You still have to have a system designed for him, Like Wilson, lots of roll outs, pocket shifting, etc. but there are successful people who over come it. Its still a thing where you are gambling a little, so to me 5’8, 5’9, 5’210 doesn’t really make a ton of difference, doesnt change how i look at drafting him at all.
Phish is older today? Congrats, may your arteries stay clear for many more a year, i hope your hair still grows more than just out of your nose, may your strength never wane, and you never wake up to pain, and until the day your dead, my your pencil always have lead. (an not after because that would be an awkward funeral).
I gave you a long response Mike
I’m trying really hard (albeit you guys know where I stand on Trump)
Not to take a position on what to conclude at the hearing
And just looking at the procedural significance and what it means
in means in the future
You have to admit though, even if there is significance in the hearing there is a lot of shit show surrounding it and the focus isnt on Cohen at all, thats the way to basically dig in to Trump by using a criminals testimony to reheat the allegations against him.
I am not a fan of Trump either, but this is so agenda laden its not even funny.
Piggy – I responded to your response.
There’s a huge shit show
5’ 10 and 1/8
D – It’s not only the height, it’s the weight. He’s at 207, which is a similar body mass to Wilson, who was 5’11 215.
Yeah i would be much more concerned with the weight. If he can perform in the drills as expected with that extra weight on him, then it makes him a safer pick just for the sake of longevity in the league. I dont like the idea of a guy who is smaller than receiver playing a position where heavy contact to him is possible on every play.
D – No doubt, he’s still a risk, and I think Seattle did it right, taking Wilson in the 3rd. However, due to Wilson’s success, Murray will be going in the 1st round for sure, maybe even #1 to ARZ. That’s so crazy, I don’t think that’s ever been done before, a team taking a QB in RD1 in two consecutive years.
Arizona really makes the most sense, as they will be crafting an offense (by all reports i have seen) that would fit him and his gifts like a glove. At this point im pretty sure he wouldnt make it out of the 1st round so Arizona only has one real choice, can they trade back, just a few spots and still get him or do they use number 1 on him. I dont by the statements made about Rosen and he is our guy, and in fact i dont know that i have heard the coach ever say Rosen is our guy, just Rosen he knows where he stands with us.I think you could be right.
I dont think you can put a criminal, known liar on the stand and expect that testimony to be legit. If a person is so far past the line of their personal morality that they commit the crimes they are convicted of, then you have to assume perjury isn’t going to be a stretch for them. Having a guy like that at a hearing is a targeted move. As a lawyer, if you had a case you were trying to strengthen, would you put a guy on the stand that is going to cast doubt on the legitimacy of your argument. Wouldn’t your opposing lawyer tear that shit to shreds? Thats not a credible witness, so build the case around something with meat in it, and not put a known liar and known criminal up there to make your point.
I am with Mikey and i really dont care for Trump or the shit show that follows him, but in my eyes this has all the marking of witch hunt and just slinging anything up there that can do damage and hopefully lead to a impeachment. I dont think you should have to manufacture a impeachment, a president deserving of an impeachment should have some evidence to support the need for on, otherwise its manipulation of impeachment just to remove someone that you dont like, and trust me if that precedence gets set its not just trump its going to get used on.
I disagree with you D
I actually have a trial coming up
With a POS (not my client) who did something stupid that hurts mynclient and I have to call him as a witness at some point – despite the fact that he’s a POS and has no credibility
I won’t give out the details
But credibility is not what you hang you hat on
It’s what sways you when you are on the fence on a subject
So even a POS has value with corroborating evidence
So Cohen, who I think is full of shit and don’t beleive for a second had some kind of awakening of conscious over the last few months, is just a piece of the puzzle – but if it’s just Cohen, well forget it
I think Mike was right about the corroorating evidence, to me that’s he right thing to focus on. But we are talking about a House that’s mostly been in office 2 mos and the makeup of the House, the 2 years prior, thumbed their nose at looking into these things
Also just my .02 , most of the members of the house would make shottyntrial attorneys and are just really theatrical jerks but this is the process we are stuck with
There is no question that the Republican minority in the Senate wanted nothing to do with finding out anything bad about Trump. That much was made even more obvious in the hearing, which also annoyed me. The bipartisanship displayed by both sides was truly sickening. Like you said, it really makes me hate politics as they currently stand
Piggy – Was he not Trump’s lawyer? Is it really so odd that he paid him a sum of money? Does the check itself say what it was for? You know it doesn’t, so you also know it doesn’t mean a thing.
Its speculation and that shit does nothing to clear up what a person is or isn’t guilty of. You can hover around it and both sides can make arguments about it (like they are) but at the end of the day without hard facts it doesn’t move the needle towards one side or the other. On thing i can say for sure is the media is eating this shit up. Speculation isn’t suppose to be a part of journalism either unless you are writing an ope-d or editorial.
op-ed
there are payments and a paper trail from Cohen directly. That’s why he’s going to jail.
Sure the payment can be anything – but you have to ignore the fact that Cohen paid these people in furtherance of Trump campaign, without any expectation for reimbursement to believe that, and that’s illogical
Still we don’t know it for a fact
But
The legit way an attorney does work is to produce invoices for that work, what the work represents and be paid with a check earmaked for that purpose. Every check I receive is earmarked and it’s easy to say what the work is for bc the paper trail shows that
And you do that for the tax deduction – my office is overflowing with 1099s right now bc my clients are reporting payments to me for deductions and I in turn have to report money I received for work as taxable income
These checks don’t refer to any work. If they are unreported payments, and meant to go under the radar – they are highly questionable
There’s also a paper trail to look into whether it was legit work for Cohen or reimbursement – but that’s what tax returns are for and that’s the next thing I would Expect to be subject to a subpoena
D – The media is slurping it up like a whore slurps up jizz. The media despises Trump probably more than any other president before him because he lashes out at them constantly. It’s definitely more personal than it should be, on both sides, Trump’s and the media. Both are completely unprofessional in the way they are handling it
Happy B-Day, Phelon! I hope it was a good one.
Happy B-Day “phelon” — yeah went with how sounds. 🙂

Piggy – Let’s put it this way, if the House Oversight committee really wanted to get the info, they could have questioned Cohen w/o the cameras and live coverage by the media. It was show, that’s what they really wanted. They then could have pursued the other people involved and questioned them, in private to get their answers.
Cohen has two other days of interview behind closed doors. But hell yes they wanted him on camera for political reason….. both sides do that. And not like the GOP folks were trying to get to the truth either. One talking head who was their said only one Republican congressman even asked a substantive question. All the others just attacked Cohen or made political statements. So works both ways.
No question Stanger, I just responded at 11:00Am stating just that, the Republicans wanted no part of any information that may damage the president, even if it’s true, which was also sickening yesterday.
Piggy i also wasn’t saying that a criminal cant be used to testify, i was just saying you just cant consider them credible. You use their testimony to corroborate actual evidence you have or lead you to evidence you haven’t currently had. I still dont see this as being what the Cohen hearing has been about.
Well I agree with that
Now I’m done with this topic
Didn’t you post yesterday that the tallest guy was over 6’7? I could swear I saw that
That was OL guys, this list is WR’s
That was for the O-Line, Bro.
Ahh, never mind, tallest WR. Silly me
Scarey part is that WR has close the top measurements of all the top OL guys lol
I think thats the entity i hate the most in our culture right now is the media, followed closely by politicians on either side of the isle. There is WAY too much party poliics, stay in power politics and not enough for the people politics in our country.
I had thought of a way we might actually get more out of them, we should base their pay on the number of times they show up to vote on an item (ie if you show up 20% of the time, you get 20% of your salary this year), a state poll would be issued on items that they voted on and if they didnt properly support their constituency they do not get credit for voting on that item, and finally for every dollar they are donated by a big business, we can cut their salary by that amount and just assume that the business is at least partially paying for things so we shouldn’t also have to. Oh and the IRS audits 100% of their tax filings.
What position does Trump play?
QB, because he always seems to have his thumb in someones asshole.
Lol – okay
Point taken
I’ll go silent now on this topic
It’s always a slippery slope, and takes over the blog
Long snapper – That’s the closest I could think of to a guy with his head in the sand. lol
Piggy – I don’t know squat about this stuff, but couldn’t Trump just say these were bonuses? I mean without someone else’s word to substantiate that, it seems impossible to prove anything by that.
OK, topic closed, I just saw your post, no need to belabor the discussion.
Anyone here like cigars? LOL
Yes, and i hear Trump does too…. lol
Unless he is a complete idiot and has a ledger somehwere that has the shit listed out differently. Sounds mega dumb but criminals have been caught with lists before where they wrote out “List of shit i need to kill and dispose of soandso’s body” lol and Trump strikes me as overly cocky and dim witted enough to do stupid shit like that.
I’ve been hearing a lot about Rashan Gary, that he’s kind of a tweener between DT and DE who doesn’t do anything particularly well. I say keep your eyes on his 40-time. If he clocks faster than his listed 4.64 at 283 pounds, he’s going to be on everybody’s radar early.
He’s no doubt going in the 1st round, but how early he goes is the question. His drills will be key to watch, as well.
My take is this: if the wrong team drafts him, he has bust written all over him. If the right team drafts him (like the Patsies*), he could be a homerun pick.
I’m reading George RR Martin’s “Fire and Blood”, which is 300 years before Game of Thrones, a story about the Targaryen’s
Why is it that year after year after year, we’re right on the outside of picking an elite talent? I mean, I can see where the ‘blue-chip’ talent falls off, and we’re always on the outside, selecting just a pick or two afterward.
We got lucky that Tunsil fell to us after the ‘bong-mask’ dilemma and he’s been the only exception in recent years. What I’m sayin’ is that we were 1 more loss away in ’18 from landing a ‘blue-chip’ talent in this year’s Draft. And NO, I do NOT suggest trading up in a rebuilding year.
Mediocrity, over and over again. That’s why.
WHAT IF… Kyler Murray falls to us @ R1P13? That would be indicative that the first 12 teams aren’t buying the hype and aren’t sold on him. Do you draft him just to put fans in the seats? Or do you have the conviction that Kyler is potential top-10 QB in the NFL for a decade or more?
Any GM that takes a player just because they will put fans in the seats, and doesn’t have conviction in that player will not be around for very long.
Agreed, Mike E. And I don’t think Grier is a fool.
Just say no!
Wesco would be a solid pick in the late rounds to be an in-line blocker.
M – Grier has surrounded himself with good people. I think that’s an indication we wouldn’t make a foolish pick like that. That being said, that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t take Murray if they like him.
Of course!
Mike E,
I finally got to read your write: sorry about that! Very good. Like you, I would re-sign Ja’Wuan. Don’t know what the new team thinks of his lack of run-blocking ability (though it’s been reported they want him back), we’ll soon see for sure.
I think it’ll be a matter of the right $$$ for both sides, and I hope Ja’Wuan and his agent don’t get too greedy. Clearly, we can do better by drafting a RT that can both run-block and pass-block… but that’ll create another hole and cost an early round selection to fill.
Thanks M
Right on time, LOL.
I wouldn’t touch him… we can do so much better, either this year or next year.
Fumble red flag
plus he has a lesbian haircut
Happy Birthday Phish!
——————
My thoughts EXACTLY.
I thought he just wasn’t throwing. I thought he would do the drills, at least run the 40
—————
NICE!!!
Wow!
Wow is right, but that dude is an iron man. He started and played in all 16 games every year for the last 11 years.
Oh yeah he’s one of the best TEs of all time.
