We got a QB!! Welcome to Miami Josh Rosen!

All I asked for was a plan. Even though I belong to one of the the most prestigious Miami Dolphins Fan Blogs, oddly enough I wasn’t privy to the plan. Despite extensive conversations that I’ve had with Chris Grier, he and I are great pals, he never told me. He’s that good! Seriously though, it’s not the guy I wanted, but I’m thrilled to have Josh Rosen as our QB.

Just think how bizarre the circumstances are how Josh Rosen ended up on our roster. The 10th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft to the Arizona Cardinals did not have a great season last year, but when you look at the team he played for, and take into consideration that the HC Steve Wilks was fired after one miserable season, it’s easy to understand what Rosen was up against. Full disclosure, I didn’t want Rosen last year, and I preferred Dwayne Haskins this year, but I reiterate, I’m thrilled he’s a Miami Dolphin.

Josh Rosen is a highly intelligent QB, and that should fit right in with Chad O’Shea and what he wants to accomplish. If we’re following the Patriots model, be smart with the football, don’t turn it over, and get points on every drive. No pressure for Rosen to start immediately, but I’m thinking Fitzmagic is going to have a fight on his hands to start the season. The compensation we gave up is minimal, the #62 pick (practically a 3rd RD pick after our trade down) this year and our 5th RD pick next year. That trade back also netted us a 2020 2nd RD pick in exchange for our 4th RD pick. Well worth it!

Josh Rosen the QB was rated as one of the top QB’s in last years draft, rated by some as the top QB. He’s NFL ready, he knows how to stay in the pocket and keep his eyes downfield, not on the rush. He can process an NFL offense easily with his football intelligence. In 2017 for UCLA, he completed 63% of his passes against the blitz. He doesn’t necessarily have a better than average arm, but neither did Tom Brady, and he turned out OK.

So now we have a super high character, physically talented, dominant DT, and add to him a highly rated QB prospect with one year of NFL experience under his belt (even if it was a miserable year!) In the 3rd RD we selected Wisconsin OG Michael Dieter. 6’5 307, there’s nothing special physically to mention, but the kid can play. He’s played all 3 interior positions at Wisconsin as well as 14 games at LT where he was a first team All Conference pick.

So far I have to say we’ve accomplished an awful lot so far. I honestly wonder what is going on in Josh Rosen’s mind. I hope he embraces this most unique opportunity with unbridled enthusiasm. It’s almost like we saved him, he should feel born again (Not religiously!). I hope he comes here humbled and thankful for a wonderful new start and opportunity. Hopefully he’s our successful starting QB for the next 10-15 years. GO DOLPHINS!

#staythecourse

PS – ARZ has paid all of Josh Rosen’s bonus money, so we’re getting a great financial deal as well!

PPS – Toba – Thanks so much for the photoshopping my friend, I appreciate it man!

I think we were definitely winners value wise. If Rosen holds up his end of the deal, we’re really winners!

Sorry Mike E Excellent article you wrote.
I had to paste those quotes before i lost the copy.
NFL.com rarely praises us that way.

What do you want in a LG?
    You want a mauler. (check)
And you want a guy that can pull. (check)
And to be “perfect” you want a guy who “looks for work,” as they say.
If you watch tape on this Deiter guy,
you can see him hitting 2 guys on the same play multiple times.

We nneed that guy who can pick up stunts and see the looping in guy out of the corner of his eye and slip off the double team and go chip the blitzer just enough to give Rosen time to throw.

Dieter May have Been the best pick

  5. Yesterday was one of the best days of my life as a Phins fan. Felt like winning the Super Bowl. When I sat there in 2012 and watched as we made one of the worst picks in the history of the franchise at #8 and had to suffer thru 7 yrs of mediocre qb play I didn’t think this day would ever come.

Normally, I’d be looking at the players remaining or hoping for some of the guys I have on my list but these guys GOT this.

  6. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

There’s decent talent left on the OL
Not so much at tackle but at OG both OK guards are available
We could be cute and draft Edwards and Benzswawel to go all Wisconsin on the OL
Michael Jordan the Ohio State is available too

  7. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

You can usually find depth at DB, WR, RB and LB in day 3

Not really areas I focused on this offseason

Personally I would trade up using those 7th rounders and try to add another quality OL

  8. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Rosen must be a great player!

The “local experts” are having a MELTDOWN!!!!!!! 🙂

  10. LoU, Your enthusiasm is priceless, lol the curmudgeon turns cheeky, lol

i right there with ya buddy, this is one of our best drafts ever

and by the way, Fitz has little chance to win the starting position, Rosen will for sure beat him out

  18. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    So here’s hoping for
    Isaiah Prince @ RT.
    Ryquel Armstead @ RB
Christian Miller and Jalen Jelks on the EDGE
Anthony Nelson, Austin Bryant, Kingsley Keke @ DE
    Drew Samia @ RG

  19. Mike high fives buddy, We finally did it and got us a QB! i dont know what we will complain about for the next 6 years, lol but this chapters over!

it was a long wait, but it feels so good having capable management, not only capable, but i think the Dolphins came away from the last two days looking like Einsteins, masters of the trade

what a difference this is from Jeff Ireland, I feel like We are finally going to have the team We wanted for years

  20. there’s slim pickings remaining on the o line and really not much of anything remaining that can really give us some pass rush help. it would be something to see them pick up a guy in the 5th and make him into the next Trey Flowers.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don’t think the OG class is so slim

      • overall, I see
        Edwards
        Powers
        Samia
        Gaillard
        Benzschawel
        Udoh

Not a big fan of Prince at RT. He struggled the last two years at OSU and Jordan has trouble with an accurate snap. I’d love it if we were to get both Samia and Gaillard. I think our days of struggling with the o line would be over. Add Brumfeld as an udfa and we could have something solid

        who else ya got?

  21. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    There’s a few DE’s left
    Anthony Nelson, IOWA
    Austin Bryant, CLEMSON
    Kingsley Keke, TEXAS A&M
    Joe Jackson, MIAMI (FLA.)
    Charles Omenihu, TEXAS

  22. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    Edge guys
    Christian Miller, ALABAMA
    D’andre Walker, GEORGIA
    Jalen Jelks, OREGON
    Maxx Crosby, EASTERN MICHIGAN
    Carl Granderson, WYOMING

    • It’s going to be interesting to see what happens, if they feel that any of these guys, including Brailford, is someone they really want to use a pick on or go in another direction. They may feel there’s a player at another position they just can’t pass on even though they could still use o line and DE.

  23. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

IDL and IOL (two starters imo) and a QB on a first year contract with little risk, high reward (vs. high risk written all over this year’s QBs). Nice job, Grier and Co!!!

Hopefully, we can find another gem or two in the later rounds ala starter.

Next year we will have essentially two drafts and can trade away one of them for whoever we want. WTF??? I’ve never seen that before.

Now this is how you build a team. Go Dolphins.

  24. anyone see the possibility of us moving back into the 4th rd today? It really wouldn’t take much to do it.

    • its entirely possible, but i feel like we are stockpiling picks., unless a man we need to have is on the board.

we need an edge rusher, not sure any in the fourth could help us, but if there is, i wouldnt mind a move up for an edge rusher

  25. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Omar desperately trying to remain negative about all things Dolphins. Love it! LOL

  26. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    Dennis Daley, SOUTH CAROLINA
    Isaiah Prince, OHIO STATE
    Tyler Roemer, SAN DIEGO STATE
    David Edwards, WISCONSIN

  28. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The local media still trying to spin negativity because we pulled off a heist. LOL

  29. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

It seemed that ALL the teams agreed that after the top 12 or 15, the rest of the top 100 were pretty close to the same grade?
I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many trades in the second and third rounds???

With them picking Dieter it looks like we have specific players targeted?

If one of “their guys” is there in the 4th I’m sure we will trade up for them!

  30. Yesterday, I’m watching the draft and Parris Campbell is drafted and a Colts fan in the crowd yells ” yeah baby!! defense!!”

  31. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

The Fins still getting “Positive” air time!
Except for the the “local experts”

  32. Tim, the national media is crowing over us, we really exceeded expectations for many, including Myself

but Grier deosnt try to please the local media , he clearly is trying to rebuild the team, and if anyone doesnt see that , its because they dont WANT to see it

  33. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Just about every football fan I know who are not Dolphins fans are impressed with what we did the last two days. The local media is desperately trying to continue the negative vibe but it’s falling on deaf ears. Love it!!!! LOL

    • maybe if their click rate is abysmal, they will stop fishing for negatives

want better news? then dont click on the crapola, force their hand!

they will do good reporting if they have too, but if they dont have too, they are ok with that too, screw it,

as Lou says, wheres the like button, lol I LIKE what is happening here, sorry the Sun Sentinel doesnt, thats on them

  37. wow, i didnt know it was that bad, damn

i just peeped the Miami Herald, looked like a positive story from the headline , but its garbage and i cant get past the first paragraph

headline states, Josh Rosen traded to Miami Dolphins. Grand plan to rebuild with 2020 QB takes detour.

    alright, then the first paragraph

Josh Rosen for a second round pick ? No, bad idea
    Terrible idea.
the MIAMI Dolphins are so so disappointing.
The Dolphins think they pulled off some sort of coup Friday night,,,,,

    thats enough reading Armando SMH

this is unreadable IMO i ignored t, he rest

everyone here seems happy, but the beat boys want to piss on our parade

i think they are upset their stupid idea of tank for tua was proven to be stupid.

instead of admitting they are stupid, they babywhine about Grier instead, which ironically makes them look, well, stupid, lol

  38. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

If and that’s a big IF…Rosen works out it’s a great move because now you don’t have to spend your #1 2020 pick on a franchise QB. I just cant see how this tiger can change his stripes in less than a year, he was the worst QB in the league last year.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

On the worst team that was poorly run.

    • Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

How could anyone be worse than Tannehill?

All I ever hear is what a piece of shit he was!
      RIGHT?
      SMMFH

    • he had the worst oline in football according to many metric measuring sites

he had a horrible coach that got fired, two different offensive coordinators, one of them named Byron Leftwich, who had never tried to play offensive coordinator in his life.

if Leftwich is Your coordinator, nuff said

he was pressured on over 40 percent of his passes, which led the league,

cardinals picked first, because they are truly horrible, worst team in the league.

he was a top prospect, but went to the NFL basement for punishment,

it will be good to see what the ex patriot coaches can do with him

  39. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    Sorry Rob
That doesn’t read near as tongue in cheek as it was meant!

  40. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Well I guess there is on local paper we can read from now on?

  41. the draft sucks for players, imagine You are going to the NFL, and the Cardinals pick Your ass,

damn that sucks. some of the best players ever go to the worst teams and have a tough time.

it makes parity for the NFL, but its not easy for the players to try to shine while wallowing in mud

  42. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

At the end of all of this, we gave up a 4th rd pick today and a 5th next year, but we added another 2nd rd pick in 2020. Wait, what… what… what??? 🙂

  43. I never believed the “tank” narrative from the start & I kept telling everyone who kept saying we were all in on 2020 and were going after Tua that, one way or another, we were coming out of this draft with our franchise qb and Grier, Flores and O’Shea made it happen.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not patting myself on the back. I’m just saying I never believed that the people they have in the building in Davie right now were going to just sit back and wait until 2020. These guys don’t know the meaning of the word “tank”.

    • yep, and i could never figure out why Flores would want to come here, just to tank?

it never really made sense, i hated the thought that we might do it.

but that wasnt correct, there was never any might do it, it was all bs

Grier, Flores, and company are not here to tank, they are here to do their jobs, the best they can, i felt that all along, even though doubt wanted to creep in when i didnt understand current moves and strategy

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Lou, the “tank” narrative was goofy from the get go. But adding cap space and draft capital for 2020 is real. Just not at the expense of 2019 like the local reporters have been jerking off about. LOL

  44. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

the knock on Rosen is he’s not a leader, he’s self absorbed. this is what was said by some who evaluated him, he himself said he doesn’t need football because he’s already rich.
you can fix a lot of things but you cant fix a good mindset.

  45. the fins have failed in the draft so bad, for so long, that many of us had auto bitch mode all ready to go, lol

we were conditioned to accept failure, not by choice, but by default. its what happens annually

i even felt the blood pressure rising at first, then i realized, this isnt our typical draft,
we are being intelligent this year, not only that, but we are beating the NFL at a game where we always lost before.
its a new regime, a new ride, and im in for the adventure and fresh change of pace.

this year feels different, very different

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

nothing new about Grier he’s been here for years, you seem to think that this move was great? no one really knows if it was at this point,

it’s a huge gamble because most probably the pick we gave up would have netted us a starter at a different position.

QB being the hardest position to play and Rosen with a dismal year under his belt.

it doesn’t seem that this will work.

  46. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

coaches and players never tank, they have to protect their brand.

  47. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    No really? LOL

  48. imagine if the 1973 Dolphins were here now, what Armando and other critics would be like

Larry Csonka is too slow to play running back, and is an alcoholic, dolphins made a huge mistake bringing him in.

and Shula only has one undefeated season, hes not great unless he can do it again, lol

Bob Griese doesnt throw the ball enough to Warfield, Warfield will want a trade, and Miami needs a new QB.
Dolphins lose SB to the Vikings, mainly because Larry Csonka was suspended from the game due to his unfollowing one of the defensive coaches during super bowl week.

he was suspended indefinitely without pay, and sentencing is next week, lol

  49. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Lest we forget that you can still get good players day 3!

  50. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

on the other hand, i look at the Pats, they seem to always make chicken soup out of chicken shit, so if this new coach has the patriot touch who knows, Rosen could become the next GOAT.

Hey Steve Smith, Josh Rosen never whined. You made it up, big mouth.

did You feel like Fitzpatrick was the franchise QB to lead us to super bowls?
if not, then this was the right move,
    _______________________________________
absolutely not, but i think he’s a great stop gap, if it were me i would have patiently built this team with my eye on the clemson qb in 2021, i would have ammassed draft picks and made sure i got him. at that point you have a loaded team and a rookie on a rookie salary for 5 years.

with Rosen if he works out we will be burning that rookie contract up and by the time we have all the pieces (if he works out) we will be paying him 35-40 mil a year.

we could allocate that money elsewhere with the clemson qb.

    • we dont need 14 picks next year, 14 picks arent important, we need QB now, this is a great decision IMO<

Fitz isnt a great stopgap, he is a human interception machine, and Rosen is a great team saviour to spare us the game losing pick sixes from Fitz

as far as pay and contracts go, I NEVER worry over that, im not in payroll.

but i would rather see us pay a franchise qb big money, versus having a cheap ass QB that isnt worth a shit

  54. The comment from Rosen about not needing football was taken out of context. He didn’t mean he could just walk away if he wanted because he didn’t need the money, he meant he was watching friends of his stuffing their bags with food at events and taking it with them because they couldn’t afford it, sending money home when they received it in terms of financial aid because their families didn’t have the financial means he had.

He meant there were a lot of guys who were teammates who were relying on football for their education and there were some who were relying on it for their financial futures and he saw it first hand and it really bothered him seeing it.

So, he wasn’t being an ass about coming from a family with means. He was saying the other guys around him needed football as a means to an end and he didn’t and the way a lot of his teammates were treated and the issue of their finances really bothered him.

People who are just throwing shit out there need to know the whole story before just being judgmental.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

There’s a lot of misinformation out there about Rosen and Steve Smith slandered him with false information as well. Listen to marble mouth go on and on about nothing Rosen ever did. It’s fuck’n comical!!!

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

and you may be right but unless you have personal knowledge of the guy like being his life long friend… you really don’t know. some say he’s self absorbed and they may be wrong as well.
who cares unless this get’s in the way of him performing and the only way i see that is him not being a leader.
we shall see, i hope he is our new franchise qb, that would be great as next year we wont have to use resources on another qb.

  55. Rosen is NO gamble at all, while it remains to be seen exactly how good he will be, this is a no brainer selection, with zero risk.

we got a first round QB with a watered down second round pick, and an extra second round pick next year from the trade with Saints

we have 13 picks next year, and Rosen in the house.

are we all that better of a team with 14 picks, and no Rosen? i dont see that

we dont need 14 players in next years draft, we never have that many

we need to rebuild the team. starting now . and Rosen is part of the process

  56. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

i’ll tell you what, cristian wilkins looks to be a great pick, this dude has skillzzz, he’s agile can really move, played RB and caught passes on offense. he’s going to be great for us!

  59. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

ALL OF YOU GUYS HYPED-UP ON KOOL-AID HAVE FORGOTTEN TWO WORDS:
    “SHOW ME!!”
    —————
Miami drafted two college boys with ZERO pro games played. I HOPE they do well. Hell, I hoped every player drafted by Miami during the Steve Ross ownership would do well. But, so far, only a few have been able to “SHOW ME!” One is a well known wide receiver who holds the all-time NFL record for most receptions during the first four years of his career. Another actually ran for over 200 yards in back-to-back games and now has a Super Bowl ring on his finger. Sadly both of these players were traded away for next to nothing. We now are a team that was dead last in the NFL in total offense last season AND 29th in the NFL in total defense, having given up a franchise all-time worst 6257 yards to our opponents last season.
    —————-
NOW, to be fair, the FO acquired a QB who DID PLAY last season. He led his team to the WORST RECORD IN THE NFL, worse even than the much criticized Ryan Tannehill! So far, “Dogshit Rosen” has only shown me failure in the NFL. I’d be surprised if he beats out Ryan Fitzpatrick for the opening day QB job. And, yes, this is the SAME Fitzpatrick who is 50-75-2 all time as an NFL starting QB. Despite flashes of brilliance, Fitzpatrick remains 25 games BELOW .500 as a starting NFL QB. Neither of these two quarterbacks are able to lead the Dolphins to a single victory in the playoffs this year, next year, or ANY YEAR IMHO.
    —————
Under Steve Ross’s ownership, a “rebuilding year” has become a euphemism for another losing season with NO HOPE for winning a playoff game. This year brings, I HOPE, some improvement. But it’s only a HOPE. The brutal truth is that Miami likely WILL NOT EXCEED last year’s 6-win total which was helped by the “Miracle In Miami.” And if you think for one moment that NEXT YEAR’S EXTRA PICKS AND MORE SALARY CAP WILL BRING US PLAYOFF VICTORIES, you haven’t been following our W-L totals for the last decade.
    ————–
WE WON’T FIND true success as long as Ross is calling the shots. THAT’s THE TRUTH!

    • all rookies have zero NFL games played, so i feel no alarm over that

by that measure at least Rosen does have some NFL games played, so theres that

all the fins can do at draft time, is pick quality talent, and they did

the rest, will require patience to find out, season hasnt started yet

however, just because the season hasnt started yet, doesnt mean Wilkins wont be a force when the season opens, He will be, koolaid or no

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

i think dumping ajayi was a huge mistake, which resulted in the guy that dumped him getting fired. as for Landry i think it was a smart move not to pay him that ridiculous money for a slot rec with no speed. i don’t think you can point to any of this as Rosses fault.

all ross is doing is trying to hire the right coaches and FO, he’s not calling personnel moves.

      • i disagree on both, Ajayi should have gone, the record breaking pro bowler Landry stayed,
but its water under the bridge now

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ajayi is most likely done. Where’s he now?

      • slot receiver with no speed eh? this pretty much proves You dont understand player value

players dont get selected to pro bowls because they are slot receivers with no speed
wide receivers dont break NFL records because they are slot receivers with no speed.

in a way its good for him he is gone, because he wasnt appreciated here, and his accomplishments were often totally ignored by agenda driven fans, and ironically none of them can run as fast as Landry, lol

Browns valued him, and he seems happy, good for him

its not neccesary to ignore his accomplishments for us, and bitch about players that arent here.

the team fucked up, we gotta move on from past failures, learn from them, and We are.

    • so in Your opinion, a rookie QB should excel behind the worst OL in the league, worst team in the league ?

with a fired coach, and with first time ever Byron Leftwich as his OC?

maybe, but thats an extremely high degree of difficulty, he has a much better shot here, and i cant wait to find out

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

OD — what can you do after a draft and either say like, it don’t like or something in btwn? Seems over all folks on the board liked it. If was talk about a winning season or the playoffs didn’t see it. And think we are all pretty sure those are huge long shots this year. With all the cap money and picks….. 2020 is a different story as far as hopes., but we see how we feel then after what probably will be a brutal season.

If we go OL again in the 5th, I really hope it is Clemson OT Mitch Hyatt. He is a long time starter. Good in the run game and pass pro. Helped shut down the Alabama pass rush in national championship. #75

  62. players have eyes and ears, they see and hear the fans . if we want good talent to be here, and stay here, it behooves us to realize they are human, have feelings, and want to be where they are appreciated.

if the team fails, it shouldnt be the fans fault, they need to support the troops, and trust in the management,

if they fail, we will know it first, and then criticism is warranted, then they will receive hell fire, lol

but players that have never played a snap for us yet, shouldnt be ostracized by fans imo

we should give them a chance to try, before tossing them in the virtual garbage bin, otherwise we might be part of the reason they did fail

slot receiver with no speed eh? this pretty much proves You dont understand player value
    ____________________________________________

I think you got that backwards, you keep blowing Landry’s horn but he was a rec who wanted elite wr money, he could not line up wide and beat a good CB on the outside, he had to stay in the slot and use his quickness, there’s a difference from being quick to being fast. landry is not fast. so he was not an elite WR.
just because the Browns gave him that money doesn’t make him worth it, they had money to burn.

    • no sir, im not blowing his horn, just noticing his accomplishments, records, and league wide respect, and he did it for US, Miami.

thanks for that Mr Landry, some fans did appreciate You laying out Your heart and soul and fighting for every inch on the field, every play.

but like i said, he is gone, there isnt anything we can do but learn from past mistakes, and try not to repeat them again

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

he was great for Miami, i’m sure they would have kept him if he would have accepted a reasonable offer however he got elite wr money from cleve who had the cap space, Miami was not in that position and he is not an elite WR.

I watched the 2017 UCLA highlights of Rosen.
Aside from the pretty arc he puts on his long throws, I saw 3 things.
He made really good pre-snap reads.
He has very nifty feet and radar in a collapsing pocket.
He does not stare down receivers while they are early in their routes. (too much)

He made about 16 different throws that I counted in that tape. Sidearm fits, low and away sliders, soft floaters, darts, back shoulders, “throw the man open” stuff, over the middle, down the sideline, end zone corner full speed AND the fade route, 50 yd rainbows, hit the TE between the 8’s, etc. etc.

I know it was all highlights, but still.

They were not all the same thing, which was my criticism of Josh Allen (still is). where if a 90-MPH fastball works or a 60 yd bomb works, then fine, but he has nothing else. Rosen was throwing what the circumstances called for.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Rosen was considered the most pro ready QB prospect in 2018. Somehow that’s been forgotten because he had a rough rookie season on the worst team and he unfollowed the Arizona Cardinals who basically told him you’re out. Got it! LOL

It’s a good time in the draft to look for lesser known prospects from bigger schools

There are quality OL from Ohio State, Oklahoma, Alabama and Wisocnisn on the board
They might not be the best on their teams – but they can play in this league

  70. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Joe Jackson is an interesting prospect for us to look at

  72. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

And we thought our line was bad last year.
    ———————-
“Rosen’s offensive line was a disaster. Other rookie quarterbacks have started their careers behind porous offensive lines, of course, but not to this extreme. By the end of last season, the Cardinals had lost all five of their starting linemen to injuries. During the second half of 2018, the five linemen who took snaps most frequently protecting Rosen included a pair of rookies (third-rounder Mason Cole and seventh-rounder Korey Cunningham), a player signed off Minnesota’s practice squad (Colby Gossett) and a pair of veterans who were cut by teams and almost immediately stepped off the street and into Arizona’s starting lineup (Oday Aboushi and Joe Barksdale).”

  73. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Maybe Rosen had a reason not to appreciate Cardinal’s tweets — Cards put this out in Feb.

YOU CAN MAKE THE CASE THAT Miami’s O-Line this season will be almost as bad as Arizona’s LAST SEASON. After all, Miami ranked DEAD LAST in the NFL in offense in 2018. And “Dogshit” Rosen is not exactly elusive nor does he have a particularly quick release. So I expect that Rosen will be one of the NFL’s most frequently sacked QB’s beginning when/if he becomes the Fins starting QB.

Conversely, if Rosen CAN’T beat out Fitzpatrick, then his aquisition by Miami was a complete waste of time and money. Either way, Miami’s FO will look stupid.

    Who’d expect that??

    ANDREW VAN GINKEL
    6′ 3″
    241 lbs

Van Ginkel made a name for himself in 2017 while attacking quarterbacks and making plays in coverage. The Iowa product did not start for the Badgers, but made 39 tackles, 10 for loss, 6.5 sacks, two interceptions, two pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. He started 11 games as a senior (missing two with an ankle injury) and earned third-team All-Big Ten honors by collecting 46 tackles, seven for loss, 4.5 sacks, two pass breakups, and a blocked kick. Van Ginkel traveled a bit before landing in Madison for his junior year, starting his collegiate career at the University of South Dakota. Van Ginkel was a first-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference and conference newcomer of the year as a redshirt freshman in 2015 (56 tackles, 18 for loss, nine sacks, two forced fumbles in 11 starts at defensive end.) He transferred to Iowa Western Community College after his coach retired from USD, posting 50 tackles, 13 for loss, and 3.5 sacks in 2016.

And NFL.com did not have him projected that high. Had him as a 7th.

    Andrew Van Ginkel
    6’4″ 241 lbs Wisconsin 25th ranked LB 291st OVRall RK ESPN GRADE: 40 (??)
    Pre-Draft Analysis
Van Ginkel is an average-sized outside linebacker with excellent top-end speed. He flashes as a speed rusher thanks to his good first step, bend and closing speed. He has the lateral quickness to beat blockers to the inside. He takes too long to get off blocks and has a below-average anchor.

Typical 5th round guy … some good traits with some issues

CBS rating of the pick: B
    Andrew Van Ginkel LB, WISC
    Height: 6-3, Weight: 241

Van Ginkel is a fluid athlete with moments of impressive burst off the ball and a nice arsenal of pass-rushing moves. He just needs to spend a year in an NFL weight room to survive on the edge on Sundays.

what is it with these wisconsin players???????????

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

They play a pro-style offense, so their OL knows the sets.
They play a stunting up-field TFL type Defense, (similar to Clemson)
which is also NFL style for LB.

  95. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Ginkel looks good as a penetrating gap shooter, just what our new HC wants.
looks good in space and even had a pick 6.

  96. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Ginkel ran a 4.5-something at his pro-day and was often put in zone coverage. Sounds like a guy to put on a TE. We need that.

  97. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Nink and van Noy also took a few years to get play strength and savvy,
coached up by the genius after failing elsewhere

I certainly hope this OL we drafted can play RT, with Jessie Davis there i think Rosen will be running for his life.
