Mandatory mini camp is now over, big tests will come in training camp

HC Brian Flores was happy to escape the first mandatory workouts without injury. So much so, he gave the team the day off once they completed their conditioning tests, cancelling today’s practice. Smart move for the young coach. End it on a high note, everyone is healthy. If you expected heated battles the last couple of days, that’s not what the mini camp was about. It’s beginning to lay a foundation of how things are done, and a little experimentation as well, but not a whole lot can be gleaned from practices without pads, so we’ll all have to be patient until the end of July when training camp comes around.

I’m looking forward to training camp, there should be some great competition this season. With a new Head Coach, there are no favorites, or as Coach Flores puts it “No sacred cows”. Everyone has a clean slate, so starting positions will be earned, no resting on laurels. We’ll get a much better idea as to where the QB’s are after training camp. I expect Josh Rosen to close the gap some, and then continue to do so through the preseason. The O-line is pretty much wide open with the exception of LT Laremy Tunsil. Should be some good battles between 3rd RD pick Michael Deiter and Chris Reed at LG. Daniel Kilgore will battle it out with Ryan Anderson and Chris Reed can also play C. Right guard looks to be Jesse Davis fighting it out with Shaq Calhoun and Kyle Fuller. Jesse Davis will likely be in the mix at RT as well along with veteran Jordan Mills and Zach Sterup.

On defense, so many things are happening with many players playing multiple positions. Seems like every S with also at a minimum be playing LB as well, and MInkah Fitzpatrick will be playing safety, slot corner, possibly outside corner as well as LB too. Many of the DT’s will also be playing DE in 3-4 alignments (Vincent Taylor, Davon Godchaux and rookie Christian Wilkins). A trio of LB’s return (Alonso, Baker and McMillan) plus returnees Chase Allen, Mike Hull and Quentin Poling. We should see participation from rookie Andrew Van Ginkle as well as Tyrone Holmes, Tre Watson and Sam Egauvoen. Charles Harris will hopefully flourish rushing the passer from both 4-3 DE and 3-4 OLB. Newcomers like Tank Carradine, Nate Orchard and Adolphus Washington will be in competition with Jonathan Woodard, Jonathan Ledbetter and Dewayne Hendrix.

I haven’t come to any conclusions from the mini camp, it’s just a starting point. The real work starts when the pads come on and at that point, things will start shaping up from there.

GO DOLPHINS!!!

But please, don’t let that get in the way of blanket generalizations…lol

I certainly won’t, i learned that from the left

I’m not busting your chops on it Orob – but that chart is exactly what it says it is

And you can take it with a grain of salt

      (I actually didn’t post it)

I don’t really think this particular issue is best approached cumulatively anyway so I don’t really disagree with criticism of it

  2. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

David – Do I hate black people that make a lot of money? Of course not. Why would I? If my company was owned by a German man, could I say that he treats his employees like a Nazi Death Camp?

    • If he treated them that way, then Your statement would be true

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

No, I don’t think the owners of NBA teams are doing anything wrong, I just think certain black NBA players take exception to the term “owner”, which really is their problem, no one else’s. If they take exception to it they have a choice, buy a team or go work somewhere else.

      • You cannot blanket speak for all the owners, they aren’t all clones of each other

We all know the clippers owner was different. There could be more,

tell ya what, the next time a NBA player speaks out on this issue, we will check out WHY he spoke out, and not tell him to shut up and speak lies or generalizations for him

  3. Piggy, one thing I have noticed in sports, many white fans think black players should never speak out, never
They ignore their issues, and make up white lies about them, like the kneeling incidents

They won’t do it to their face, they know their opinion is wrong and cowardly, so they talk shit behind their back.

They should do exactly as they say or the N, or fill in the blank sub human names, , is no good, get him outta here

I’ve seen it in stands, in bars, online, everywhere.
Look how long it took for blacks to be allowed in baseball, or black QB is allowed?

This is what the white racist will never understand, he doesn’t want too

But life is ironic, the crontrolling father that tells his daughter she isn’t allowed to date blacks,
Has biracial grandchildren for his crontrolling efforts

Racists cannot deny others existence, no matter how hard they try

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

The clippers former owner is a good example of that

But that’s no reason to focus on the minutia when there are much bigger fights to fight

  4. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Landry isn’t breaking any meaningful records and will fall far short of any HOF bid. He’s not that good, sorry.

    • He broke NFL records , even though it doesn’t fit into Your hate of him.

He never knew You hated him when he was breaking NFL records , if he did he didn’t allow it to bother him

The reason no slot receiver makes more, is because no slot receiver earns more

He is the best slot WR in the NFL

We got part time injury prone Wilson, ugghhh

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Your thinking is so shallow and goes to extremes. I don’t hate Jarvis Landry, I just didn’t think he’s worth over $15M per year, because he isn’t. That doesn’t mean I hate him any more than any more than any other ex-Dolphin player. I’m just not up his ass in a very unhealthy way the way you are. Get over him already, it’s a little disturbing. Just sayin!

      • I believe Your thinking is very shallow and self serving

  6. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

The players are partially owned by the teams.

Their right to play paid for basketball is contracted out!

    The team owns that contract!

    “Life is just hard sometimes”

  7. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Piggy – You own your law firm, yes? Does that mean your employees are working for a Cuban dictator? I mean where does this shit end?

    • You are missing the point, it’s not that a mans guilty of being racist for being white,

A man is guilty of being racist, because he is racist, and commits racist controlling behavior, that’s it

It’s not the color of the skin that matters, it’s the matter of his ❤️

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I like to think of myself as a dictator…lol

      To answer your question directly
I think it ends where social norms end
Which is arbitrary and constantly changing

I agree with you on the term owner, which is not discriminatory it’s its use most of the time. Making a big deal of it is a little too much for me

      But you never know –
Maybe 10 years from now I will think Draymond Green had it right and I should have listened to him

Or on the other hand, maybe I will view this the same way I view Denis Rodman, which is as a joke…lol

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I just think people look for things to be offended by. I’m not sure why that is, but just because certain people are offended by something, say .03% of the population, asking the other 99.97% to change because of it is my problem. That kind of stuff needs to stop.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

It doesn’t bother me like it bothers others

But I will admit, people say things about things that I grew up ignoring

I hear the word micro-aggressions used now and everything they describe I grew up ignoring – should I have? 🤷‍♂️

But every once in a while I change the way I speak bc it may be offensive to some one.

I used to call things “gay” ad nauseum and I made an effort to stop doing that

A long time ago I was told by a female professor not to default to the term he/him when generalizing people and I made an effort to stop that too

        So sometimes I get it

      • Black people speaking out against racism needs to stop?

SMH, they will NEVER stop because a racist told them to stfu

Name some players that are quiet because racists told them to be quiet?

Lebron spoke up ,meven when the president was racist to him, they will NOT stfu, nor should they

It looks ridiculous for people with their own issues ,mtelling them hey have no issues to speak out and should be quiet

Next time tell it to their face, walk right up to Lebron and tell him black millionaires need to shut up.

Let me know when, I’ll have popcorn ready for Your ass whipping party, lol

  8. what was with the goofy uniforms last night, I felt like I took a hit of acid

I was expecting to see the raptors and warriors play, but instead watched the North beat the Town team

David, you keep pounding the table on your new agenda, your rant however is the exact thing you are trying to oppose, or at least that’s what i’m getting from your posts.

it’s racist, you are generalizing how white people think towards black people, you should be more specific and name names don’t just stereotype white people.

    • Not true at all, I only mentioned some personal experiences. I don’t go to games with my ears and eyes closed, lol

      I didn’t say all, I said many

It’s not a reach to say I witnessed many racist incidents, it’s only stating what was witnessed

If u read more into that, that isn’t what I said

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

        wouldn’t “many” = the majority?

      • Many doesn’t mean most, most means most

I refuse to define a simple word when google exists

Google the word many for yourself

      • How would I know what many fans are thinking? Lmao. Low hanging fruit questions, too easy

Fans are very vocal and demonstrative, some or many or few, or one, or all or none pick your own word scream out loudly what’s on their minds

  12. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

David – Has Landry ever been All-Pro WR? I’ll answer for you, the answer is NO. That means being recognized by the top sports writers in the business. He hasn’t been an All-Pro, so he’s not nearly as good as you think he is. Catching a lot of passes is a useless record. Getting a lot of yards and TD’s counts much more. Landry is nowhere near the top in those categories. Sorry for the reality check bud

In the decade of 2010 to 2018, the Patriots are 129-37, a winning percentage of .777. New England could go 3-13 in 2019 and still have the best winning percentage of any NFL team in any decade.

The best record in any decade currently belongs to the Cowboys of the 1970s, who went 119-46. They’re followed closely by the Dolphins in the 1970s, who went 112-44-1. (These records include the postseason.)

  16. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

David – Did I say black people? Go off on your rant. I think black people make up a lot more than .03% of the population. If you really want to help black people, get drinking water to natives in Africa, people are dying there. Don’t worry about the millionaire NBA players who are insulted by the term “Owner”.

    • Mike, I don’t worry about any NBA players, not a one

They can fight their own battles, and they do.

But Does a black person have to look very hard to find something to be offended by?
      Lmao wow

Even a white guy can see they do if his eyes are open

Even if u believe their issues don’t exist, they don’t have freedom of speech either?

Like I said, if u want the black players to shut up, go tell them to their face, telling me won’t shut them up

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The black NBA players aren’t campaigning this garbage on this blog, YOU are!

You got angry when MF told people what to post, yet u are far worse , You are a huge hypocrite!

I’ll say whatever the fuck I want, and I hope u don’t like it, lmao u were nice to me in person, good thing I didn’t have to deal with your lack of respect then in front of Your family, SMH.

    • Fuck off coward, your a huge hypocrite too, and u proved it in front of everyone, lmao

It’s your fault, u attacked me this morning over and over

I wasn’t attacking u, I just have differant opinions, and that makes u angry if anyone doesn’t share your opinion

You are extremely closed minded to your faults, yet know all the faults of everyone else

You are the one that should leave the room, always attacking people and telling them to shut up

I do NOT do that, everyone is free to speak, it’s not up to me anyway

Everything was fine, until YOU started shit against Me, but I expect You to not see that, and blame Me, I see Your MO, seen it before too

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m not a coward David, I would say anything and everything I’ve said to your face. I’m not even attacking you, you see a differing argument as an attack because you can’t discern the difference. I’ve disagreed with what you said because it’s nonsensical. I have no MO dammit, I get along with everyone here, I’m not looking for anything but logic, which you rarely provide here.

      • You NEVER disrespected Me to my face, lying about it now doesn’t change that

If you have something more to say to my face, it’s probably best to keep it to yourself, I am certain I will not like it

We made peace and I’m sticking with it, just moving on peacefully to new subjects, and no fighting was the deal

I feel like rehashing the fight just continues it, I made a deal with Mike, and a deal is a deal, so the fighting is done

    • Landry said if the deer comes back, they will name it

That doesn’t really clear up whether it’s wild or a zoo animal.
But yes, FL is becoming known for wild animals in their backyards, but they were here first, we are in the animals backyards.

Hopefully we continue finding ways to coexist, and with that , Outback Steakhouse here I come! Lol

      Love that friggin place

Best could tell is worked.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Oh yeah, they feast on plants, and if you have a garden, forget it, it’s like putting out a smorgasbord for them. I’ve heard hyena urine keeps them away, but where the heck do you get that? Can you nicely ask a hyena to pee in a bottle for ya?

At least 5 deer, a bear, several iguana, half a dozen raccoons, same number of armadillos, at least 50 squirrels, opossums, foxes, a pair of coyotes, and thousands of lizards live in my neighborhood of about a thousand people (during season).

A pair of Florida panthers have hunting rights here as well.

At the clubhouse, a raccoon stole a hamburger off a guy’s table while he took a dip in the pool yesterday. At least 20 of us watched it. Thing stood up on its hind legs and picked up the burger just like you or I would in its little fingertips and sauntered back into the landscaping.

Overhead are eagles, ospreys, buzzards, and hawks. Egrets, herons, ibises, and cranes all wade in the lagoons. Wood storks live in the cypress swamps and grow as tall as 4 and a half feet.

Mike E. They are toxic to repel predators. Duh.
    LOL j/k
They both synthesize chemicals and isolate and conserve other chemicals which together can blister mucus membranes of mammals and birds (can cause blindness if in eyes and paralyze mouth tissue)(effect is usually only temporary). This toxic soup does not affect insects.

“When alarmed, lubber grasshoppers will spread their wings, hiss, and secrete foul-smelling froth from their spiracles.”

It smells like kerosene mixed with duckshit.

Also “They can expel a fine spray of toxic chemicals for a distance of 15 cm. The chemical discharge from the tracheal system is believed to be an anti-predator defense, (duh) and to consist of chemicals both synthesized and sequestered from the diet. The variation in toxins assimilated from the diet make it difficult for predators to adapt to the toxins (Chapman and Joern 1990).

Their bright color pattern is believed to be a warning to vertebrate predators that lubbers are not palatable. Their tendency to aggregate and to climb vegetation, especially at night, is a component of their defensive behavior.”

When a hundred of them infest your ficus tree, it gets chewed to hell,
plus they drop down on you as you walk under the branches.

You can’t out run them, you can’t outswim them, they can climb a tree better than You can

But they do have one tiny flaw in their armour, IF You are lucky

Even though they have every advantage over You, for some reason they don’t process loud noises correctly.
You can yell, sound air horns, car horns, etc, and they run off in fear.

But if they ever figure that one out, there really isn’t much defense but a high powered rifle or a fast car to drive away from the area

But good luck killing one with a rifle when they are closing in on You at high speed in close quarters, you might miss or hit something non fatal , and your ass is dinner for the hungry bear

Maybe hand grenades would be effective, lol

  50. Tim , it was a medium to dark colored brown. I have seen FL black bears before, much smaller sizes and less intimidating, 3-4 foot tall.

But a giant brown bear, I didnt know they even existed here until I met one and took pictures of his paw prints before I hauled ass, knowing the story wouldn’t be believable without proof, lol

I also took pictures of the destruction he made through the woods, chopping down branches 4-6 inches thick faster than a chainsaw , and sticking them behind my car to block me in
When I was in visual contact, I was in survival mode and didn’t get any live images of the beast.

They are so smart and huge, it’s scary what they could do when they are hungry

  51. Btw, those were hardwood oak branches, so heavy I had to summon super human strength to move 2’of them from behind my car so I could leave

I thought, wow, if he can chop up hardwood oak like it’s nothing, what could he do to humans?

Im glad I didn’t find out that part

  52. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

There’s plenty of black bears all across NJ. Mostly in the northwest part of the state but also all along the pine barrens which run a good portion of the state north and south. Lots of wooded areas. They get up to 500 lbs. though there have been some who were recorded in the 800-1,000 lb. range. A human can’t match that animal physically.

    • Omg those are huge.

I’d say the one I encountered was about 7-8 foot tall, and maybe weighed about 300-350

It looked skinny to Me, like it should have been carrying another 40 pounds or so.

My guess is he was extremely hungry, and had a hard on for Me, that why it was so hectic and stressful to get out of there asap

    • The south Florida environment isn’t well known for large deer or bears, the environment is swampy and maybe not as well suited for huge specimens like up north.

This bear actually didn’t appear very healthy, he didn’t have enough to eat and he was to thin for his height

Imo He is not likely to get any bigger, the environment isn’t enough for him as it is

He will probably do something stupid out of desperation someday, and that will be the end of him

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Most of the black bears don’t get that big in NJ, the majority is probably 200-250 and they get hunted at times so not many have a chance to get huge. If they find food and can avoid human hunters, they can get massive though. And yes make noise and scare them off. Don’t screw with a mom and her cubs though.

    • Rattlesnakes are death in minutes unless u get immediate medical help and anti venom

Scorpions are usually not fatal, but sometimes are to children or elderly. Most scorpion stings go away after a month of nasty ass pain, lol

Good thing u didn’t step on it, it would have nailed You good , and ruined Your next month

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Never even saw the rattler, but he was polite enough to do just that. Was time to turn around. Scorpion freaked me out…. and was in the middle of nowhere. Saw a glimpse of something in my shoe and decided to bang it out.

Like David said, they’re bigger, stronger and faster than we are I don’t care who you are. Pound for pound they are stronger and they can be vicious. 57. Lmao at the car comments

Yes, I can confirm it’s much worse on foot, lol

once I was in the car with a very heavy right foot, pedal to the metal, lol I felt safe

  58. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’ve come across snakes, hiking, walking shores fishing and in boats – rattlers, copperheads and water moccasins. You have to watch where you put your feet and be aware when in the wild. At least rattlers let you know they’re there.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

In Florida I’ve seen many 🐊

My brother and I went kayaking once at a southern part (I don’t remember if it was officially the keys ) where the freshwater from the Everglades and saltwater met

It was cool but it’s also knows as the only place to see American crocodiles in the northern part of the western hemisphere

I think they have some sort of tolerance for salt water

We didn’t see a whole lot until we were kayaking for about 40 mins and were way out

And then there was a bunch on a little sand dune island

Then we we docked and got back on land we realized they were probably under us the whole time

    • the scariest animal in the water has to be gators or crocs.

They have snuck up behind swimmers, or nailed people at the waters edge, then they clamp down on your midsection with thousands of pounds of force and teeth, and drag u down 20 feet deep and roll u around and around on the bottom, crushing u with their weight and jaws, against the bottom and drowning u at the same time

  59. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Rattlesnake bites can cause death, but not in minutes. You want to get treated ASAP (the rattlers we have here, they say it’s vital to get treated within 1-2 hours), but usually it takes hours or even days to die from one, if at all. Obviously body size, weight, health, type of rattler, and amount of venom injected are all factors. We have a lot of people bitten here every year, but rarely do people die from it.

As for bears, we have black bears here too. Thankfully our bears are rarely aggressive towards people. Regionally that may be entirely different of course. I’ve never encountered a bear in the wild, I know it would be a terrifying experience. Like ya’ll have said, a bear wants to take you down, a human has little to no chance.

    • I thought it was quicker than that

Anyways, I don’t think FLhas many rattlesnakes as before, never hear about rattler bites anymore
I think it’s rapid development cutting into their habitat.
Also because the gopher turtle population is down for the above reason, and they often shared the nests together, not at the same time

The rattlers can’t make nests in Walmart supercenter parking lots, neither can the gophers

When I was a child in Orlando, gopher turtles were everywhere, u could find a half dozen or more in minutes anywhere u went

Orlando doesn’t have any gophers left, maybe one or two

But the SW , and NW panhandle part of FL still has gophers and rattlers

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Yeah, human encroachment creates a number of issues for animals. It’s the nature of human behavior. The California Grizzly, which where often over 1500 lbs, was hunted to extinction something like a hundred years ago because of its aggressiveness towards humans. Imagine running into an aggressive 1500 lb bear in the woods. ANd like you said, they are faster and can climb better than any human. You mentioned hand grenades earlier, lol.

For some reason I am not really afraid of bears, and I am definitely not afraid of Florida panthers.

I have been in a 15 foot square cage with 3 panthers for close to an hour. We talked. I allowed them to nuzzle my hands. One licked the hair off the back of my hand. That was amazing. They circled me repeatedly, so that i could never see all 3 at once. But i guess they decided I was not a threat.

We definitely have cottonmouths down here. I’ve killed 3 myself, 1 with a hoe and 2 with shovels.

It just stalks the woods between the holes of the golf course. We’ve been seeing it for seems like close to a decade at least.

btw the name of the neighborhood is Bear’s Paw, not because of wild bears alone, however, as it was designed by Jack Nicklaus.

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

That is very brave. i would never do that. How did you capture them?

Rattlers, however, to me are not as aggressive and just not as dangerous as water mocs, at least down here. Cottonmouths thrive in the blackwater swamps here and they think they own the place. (They kinda do.) i always attack and kill them on sight.
Maybe the more northern and western rattle snakes are worse. They’re kinda laid back down this far into the tropics.

We have tons of pygmy rattlers down here as well.
They are not even worth killing though, as they have tiny mouths and weaker venom, so they’re rarely deadly. (So I’ve been told, … could be wrong.)

  71. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

That makes sense. To the best of my knowledge our largest rattlers are around 4 ft or so. The Western Diamondback is fairly large, but he’s more a southern snake, you don’t typically find him in norcal.

You may get a different take from other people in this region, but I tend to think our wildlife is, generally speaking, a bit more tame than in other parts of the country.

Florida also has a few species of caimans (in the southern part at least) that may get 5-6ft. As kids we’d camp near turkey point and that was a great place to see the Crocs, as they like the water as it comes out of the cooling towers. Crocs tend to like salt/brackish water.
