Ravens thrash Dolphins for most lopsided regular season loss in team history

The score tells the story, the stats tell the story, but eyeballing that garbage really told the story. There was hardly anything to hang your hat on from Sunday’s game. The Ravens played another game of “Who’s Your Daddy” and just knocked our dicks in the dirt for 60 minutes. TE Mark Andrews was targeted 8 times, how many catches do you think he had? Yup, 8. So much for our LB’s and safeties being better in coverage. I said Eric Rowe was going to have a tough time being targeted often and oh bot did that rear its ugly head. WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown torched us for 4 catches for 147 yards and 2 TD’s. Rowe looked woefully inadequate and the scary part is we probably don’t have anyone on the roster better.

OK, let me get this out of the way immediately. This is NOT tanking. Yes, we have set ourselves up for success for next season and beyond by acquiring a substantial amount of draft capital, but the plan is not to lose as many games as possible. The truth is, we’re just not good, especially against a well coached Ravens team. Harbaugh always has his team prepared, and the gap between Harbaugh and Flores at this juncture is significant. John Harbaugh is in his 12th year as Ravens coach, their system is in and has been in for a long time. Sure, they evolve with the different players, especially QB Lamar Jackson, but they have a way of doing things that has been done now for over 11 years. That makes a difference.

The game started with RB Mark Ingram ripping off a 49 yard run in where he was chased down by Xavien Howard from behind, and untouched until Howard finally caught him. Those of us that thought the run defense would be better were rudely shown otherwise. The Ravens went 89 yards in 4:26 and made it look exceedingly easy doing so. That surely set the tone for what was to come. Dominance in every facet of the game over our unprepared Dolphins. At this stage of my life, for my sanity and other health concerns, I have to turn the game off and look for other things that don’t raise my blood pressure 50 points and don’t have me feeling like I want to kick my neighbors dog. I don’t remember exactly what point of the game I turned it off, but I turned it back on and saw Josh Rosen in at QB. Fitzgerald wasn’t hurt, so why put Rosen in this shitstorm? Poor decision by the rookie HC. Not a good situation to get any kind of fair evaluation there so why bother?

I’m not hating on Coach Flo, this was his first game against a better team and much more established Head Coach in his 12th year with the same team. It showed every bit of that disparity. So what happens from here? We face the New England Patriots next week in Foxborough. The Patriots beat a much better team than us handily, crushing the Pittsburgh Steelers 33-3. Now every week is different, we’ve that time and time again, so anything can happen. I would assume our players have pride so after a beating like yesterday, they will want to come out and play much better football, and it’s going to take that and more to beat the Patriots in New England, where they rarely lose. To expect the Dolphins to upset the Patriots would take a Miami Miracle. Can that happen two years in a row?

GO DOLPHINS!!

On a good note, Williams came in as an undrafted FA and makes the starting unit. great footwrok and catch in the endzone

Wilkins got shoved around again. maybe he needs time to get better.

MIke E — didn’t know that was the most lopsided game in regular season…. least they made it part of history. 🙂

Do remember a worst beat down though…. 62-7 to the Jags. And that was in the playoffs. So that Dolphins team made them. Could be every Sunday won’t be like yesterday.

I hope we trade back and get more early picks, if we keep doing this we will have a team of 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I wouldn’t mind that. We can have 15 or more picks, and possibly 10 in the first 3 rounds. That would be sweet, especially if we hit on some of those.

  11. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Mike,

The problems I have with this coaching staff and FO are the same problems many reporters and naysayers have. I won’t go further into the Tunsil trade but why in the world is Jesse Davis your best option at LT? Why is Davenport your best option at RT? Why did Isidora start immediately when Calhoun played there all off-season? Dude’s a 5th round bust so far and he gives you the best option at OG with less than a week of practice? Why was an undrafted rookie your best option at OG anyway? WTH have you been teaching the past 3-6 months?

This defense has been working together most of the offseason and this is the best you can do with a defensive HC? Seriously??!

Rosen won;t learn anything on his back all season. No QB has ever learned good lessons getting pounded for a season. If he’s not an answer, then we wasted picks.

If you look at successful teams, no one has ever succeeded doing this. The Rams have a TON of talent surrounding Goff and they got most of it before he arrived. The Pats surround Brady with talent every year. The Chiefs picked up a ton of talent in Reid’s first year. What did we do? Cut every expensive vet we could. Looking at the Browns yesterday, is that our goal? It took them two years of worst in history to get a 7-9 season. Is that our goal? Do we finally collect enough capital to waste in in one season while watching an average Mariota destroy us?

Looking at this ‘plan’, I see nothing tangible beyond trying to find fuel for the draft. That is not encouraging. Our coaching yesterday was not encouraging. The teaching this offseason was not encouraging. If this isn’t a tank job, then these guys are incompetent. Historically incompetent.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Look, I can’t pretend to know how they arrived at Davenport at RT (When he’s always played LT) and why Davis was at LT (After always playing on the right side). Maybe Isidora starting was a message to the other guys to step up and play better, not sure. Maybe he liked the matchups on either side this way better, I have no idea. As for the rest, it’s one game, against a very good coach. Let’s see how we do against the rest of the league, not Harbaugh and Belichick.

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

We play four very good teams in a row. I’m hoping at least the defense starts to get better but what is the plan for the OL? How can we possibly judge Rosen with the OL we have? It makes no sense…unless you’ve given up for this year.

  12. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Stanger – I don’t think we’re gonna lose this poorly every week. I thought I made it clear that going up against a well established HC with the same team for over 12 years was obvious. The Ravens have been kicking our ass for years, this just a little worse than usual.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I gave like 3 different sets of Ravens fan shiot about that fake punt play. Wasn’t classy given the score. I made it a bit funny, but none of them disagreed.

  13. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m not going to judge this coaching staff or GM this early
I would be surprised if I criticized them before December
    Maybe even year 2
    We will see

Hopefully it’s not Cam Cameron bad

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I’d like the see something positive before December. We kept most of our defensive talent. We have a defensive HC. I would think we’d see something positive by week 11-12. You want to see Baker, Minka, McCain, etc start to play faster at least. Maybe not see a rookie WR blow your doors off immediately or some other small steps forward.

  16. twicethethe's avatar twicethethe says:

Having a night to sleep on it, here’s my thoughts:

    1. Trading Tunsil and Stills, releasing Denney, etc. was sure to have an effect (not just on the playing field). I don’t think there was anything remotely close to a ‘revolt’ or ‘tanking’ on the field, just an emotional/mental let down from the whirlwind of lost teammates and uncertainty that was the week before. That’s just human nature.

    2. Yes, with all the new personnel the team needs to gel, particularly the o-line (for what it’s worth).

    3. Dolphins defensive game plan upon review seemed geared to contain Lamar Jackson, so not a lot of stunting and hyper-maintaining their gaps/lanes, linebackers dropping but still hovering a bit around the LOS and looking into the backfield. This unfortunately played into the Ravens hands, and their game plan was generally to keep Jackson in the pocket and let it fly. To be fair it didn’t help that the pass rush has been largely anemic anyway and that the Ravens have a very good o-line. But a bunch of the stuff we saw in preseason fro the defense was missing yesterday (alignments/schemes).

    4. It almost seemed like Flores/coaching staff was treating this like a preseason game (I don’t think he was – just seemed like it at times). Trying Davis at LT and Davenport at RT? Bringing in Rosen after a point (although I get that one a bit more – Fitz was taking a real beating out there)? The timeouts at the end? With all the turnover in some ways maybe he didn’t have a choice in some circumstances, and we aren’t privy to what was happening in the building, but looking from the outside there were some head scratchers.

Of course, the Ravens were not treating this like a preseason game, have had their roster locked down for some time, and had a good team execute a good game plan. I’m in a wait and see mode – nothing much else to do after one game but forget about it (for now) and move on to the next.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I agree that the defense game plan was geared to stop Jackson’s legs and not his arm

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Nice breakdown Twice — but then reverse engineering that game not hard cause no matter where you look you find some broken bolt that cause the plane to crash.

We might be able to fix some of the problems schematically. Thinking the D which you are right did not look like the one we saw before. Was thinking they would brake out more but they went less. But maybe that was about the Jackson factor that never came. Or maybe the Ravens were just confident they could beat us straight up.

That OL will not be able to cured with new schemes or time together though. Could get less embarrassing though.

  20. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Kong,

To put a serious slant on your funnies, I would consider this season and a certain player specifically, a huge success if they can break Brady in half. Harris, whoever, would be in the Dolphins HoF with just that one play. Have one sack all year? Who cares?! It was the only one that counts. Be let go after this year for 4 years of lackluster? Doesn’t matter, we will still enshrine you later with full honors.

I work and talk with Pats fans all the time. They went beyond their normal 12/10 annoying into 14/10 insufferable with Gordon being given a 15th chance. They are hovering at kill you 20/10 level after the AB shenanigans. I’ve had more than enough of the past 18 years. Someone needs to put a cherry on top and not with another ring.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

If we can in any way impact the Patriots train, I’ll consider this game a success regardless of score. If Harris or someone else actually takes Brady out…glorious. I think the Pets have a legitimate shot at another run at perfection this year, smh.

I’m still onboard for the scorched earth rebuild, but just being honest… that was unwatchable. There was nothing worth paying attention to. No bright spots. Just a bunch of scrubs in unfamiliar territory mixed with a few guys that will still be on the roster next year. I felt bad for the players. It can’t be an enjoyable situation and I don’t blame guys for mailing it in. Just don’t get injured, collect the paycheck, and survive. For the first time in 30 years, I might skip games entirely this season.

There’s no way of knowing if the the rebuild will work, but this gives us the best chance to fill up the roster with talented players. Can we find or do we have the right FO and coaching staff to make it happen? I don’t know.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

We might wanna sign another QB though, since someone is gonna die in the next few games. We should sign someone like Sancheezy and put him back there just to take punishment until the OL gels. I mean would be kinda fun seeing someone get killed back there that really deserves it.

As Mike E has said, just show us improvement throughout the season. So yesterday is a perfect start.

This is a thrown together bunch of players. I still think we see things come together late in the year. All hope will be gone by then, which is what they were doing in the first place. But I expect to see it building…..

  32. D's avatar D says:

If they know that multiple agents are working on getting trades for their players, why dont they just name the players and get it over with.

  33. D's avatar D says:

  34. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

ER – Despite the lack of talent here, I guess I’m always hoping our HC has the team prepared better. It’s tough to say whether we were unprepared or if it just a lack of talent, or both. I’m hoping by the end of the season we will be in closer games, and see that we belong on the field with other teams.

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

It is going to happen. This team basically played a final preseason game yesterday. Look at all the subs and the OL had 1 day together.

    • D's avatar D says:

They didnt look in sync imo. A couple of plays were just bad ones. Minkah was flatfooted when Hollywood Brown blew by him. He looks liked he was prepping to play run, got square to the LOS and then was flatfooted., Brown got on him fast and then he just couldnt catch up. A lot of the other stuff though seems a lot like they werent in sync with one another. The OL didnt look as bad as people made it out. Yeah they didnt do a good job, but it seemed like it was on the twists, etc that they werent sure who was picking up what. Again, we really just finished pre-season 1. The DB’s should have played better but the rest of them i can see why they were off, especially our offense.

  35. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

As far as these “reports” about players wanting out, I don’t believe it one bit. But if true, fuck those pussies and get them out of town. SOFT..

I could see Reshad for sure doing it. Maybe McCain if he isn’t happy at S.

  37. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Whoever is unhappy with where they’re playing, they better get their shit straight. Watch the Patriots, almost everyone does the job asked of them. Do your job well, the team wins. Mope and bitch about what you’re asked to do and you will find yourself wearing another uniform in short order. Reshad Jones is a vet, and he probably showed his true colors at the end of last season. W(ho)TF is Bobby McCain to be be unhappy about where he plays? We gave him a nice contract. Suck it up buttercup and play better or you will be benched!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

D just speculated on McCain as I did with Jones so it’s kind of unfair to speak of them as if they are disgruntled. LOL

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

i guess, but the way players behave these days kills the game. Just look at the crap with AB, it’s sickening. It’s getting like the NBA, where players are going to start dictating where they play. That will be the end of it for me.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

I could see being an older vet on the team and wanting out, but at this point that pretty much just means Reshad. Not much sympathy for the younger folks like say McCain or Drake if the case. They know what is coming next year too.

  39. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I call BS on the mutiny rumors.

First off, I doubt there is anyone really seeking a trade at this point because … who would that be? Walk through the roster. none of the 3 TEs, neither of the QBs, none of the OL. Most of them are happy just happy to be getting a paycheck at all. Grant, Williams, Parker, and Hurns just got contracts amid zero interest from any other team. Of the RBs, only Drake could imagine shopping himself, and if he goes, we have plenty of guys @ RB, so we’ll be happy to get another pick in 2020. 4th rounder?

On D, same thing, The DTs? nah; DEs? nope; LBs? c’mon man; all of those guys are happy to be employed. DBs? the way they played against Baltimore evaporated any value they had on the market. except for X, who is making the max already, Bobby Mc, who is blatantly overpayed already, and Reshad, who is old. If Reshad wants out, fine, he has at most 2 years left here anyway. No biggie.

K or P? No one cares.

The other thing is, if anyone does want to jump ship after one game, i say let ’em. We don’t need anybody that wussy or that stupid, and they’ll just miss their several chances at getting a ring over the next 2-5 years.

Sonny gonna cry – Jax traded to get Josh Dobbs from Pittsburgh. Besides Cam, I think Kosh was his 2nd favorite . . .

  56. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I understand we have a lot of questions about our roster and even our coaches, but how we respond against the Pats will be a big test for this team. Do you want to remain a laughing stock or man up and go play a competitive game against a team expected to slaughter you after the game yesterday?

Got it now Mike e. Now where the hell is the caps lock on this thing?
    Help!

  58. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I absolutely do NOT believe Mike Floria’s little report that several of our players went to their agents and requested a trade. Little Floria has manufactured a lot of bogus reports about our Phins over the years, second only to Jason La Con Artist.

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Writers can’t say we traded away all of our talent and
then say our talent wants to be traded.
Just run your finger down the roster
and you will see almost no one for whom asking for a trade is even feasible.

Just really bad research, combined with piling on and click bait.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Usually where there is smoke there is fire but what the media has a habit of doing is hearing that one player is disgruntled and then saying “several’ players said that to start a shit storm. Instead of reporting news, agendas come into the fold. I’ve always wondered why negative news sells so much more because I’ve always been an optimist. Not about everything, sometimes you have to accept reality and realize there is bad shit out there. But to embellish anything as a journalist is disrespecting your profession.

By the way is Jason La Canfora even relevant anymore? I never see anything from him anymore.

I call BS on the mutiny rumors.

First off, I doubt there is anyone really seeking a trade at this point because … who would that be? none of the OL. Most of them are happy just happy to be getting a paycheck at all.

i believe kilgore was, he was pissed about tunsil, or so i read.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The thing is who did these players say this to and why is it so mysterious? Who are the informants?

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Trade him then for a Yeti bottle.

Kilgore could very well be a voice about this topic, given he is the offense captain and center on the OL calling the protection and Tunsil is the only other pro level player in his room, yeah, but if so, he is in la la land.
Who TF is going to agree to acquire Kilgore?

Let’s just draft a UGA or Wisconsin center in the 2nd and
bounce Kilgore right out the league.
Hell, Reed can replace Kilgore with no drop-off this Tuesday.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Most players interviewed Monday said they hadn’t heard of the report, nor any teammates with one foot out the door.

“I have no clue,” center Daniel Kilgore said. “That’s other guys’ business. My thing is if you don’t want to be here, I don’t want you here.”

Slow your roll there big boy

They waltzed down the field on our defense, time and time again! There’s no concern here? It was all distraction. I’m distracted.

  67. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

another one that may have asked for a trade is Drake, he’s in a contract year and it would appear that Ballage has passed him over, He sat on the bench and didn’t see any action until the 2nd qtr.
if he doesn’t perform this year a new contract may be slim pickens for him.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He doesn’t come off as that type of person but who knows? It’s a business!

The offseason had some painful decisions and already the game has been painful for us. It’s not going to be easy but I still think we won’t be as bad as predicted. Week 1 is always weird and then it settles down. We’ll know in the next few weeks if it was just a really bad game or we’re that bad. And even that could change in the 2nd half of the season. We weren’t expecting to be good anyway. Just make progress.

  68. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

That’s a load to deal with, even without louder accusations that the Dolphins are tanking this season to obtain the first overall pick next year.

“It’s a terrible thing to say, honestly,” Kilgore said. ” … I would never do that on a personal level nor would I expect my teammates to do that. It’s frustrating but it’s something we’ve got to block out.”

“I don’t know what they do in their lives,” Kilgore said of fans who don’t understand how much players care about their work. “I don’t know what they do at their jobs. For us, being here every day and working our tails off. We put so much into it. It’s disheartening to hear the things being said.”

  69. Heard some radio sports talk, and they were mentioning that if the Dolphins publicly admit they are tanking, the league has a right to impose fines and take away draft picks

If that’s the case, the Fins have plenty of incentive to deny it, even if it’s true

It’s obvious they are tanking, we have seen what Flo is capable of, and Flo didn’t even try,

but don’t expect them to fess up, they don’t want to lose picks, and it’s bad for player morale too

  70. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

  72. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I didn’t watch the entire game, but in the first half all phases looked like shit. Individuals looked good but not at the same time as the guy next to them. The players were out classed and the coaches (not sure who called that crap) were beaten soundly.

Rock, what Flores and now what Kilgore says about the tanking narrative is what I always believed, you’re belittling people suggesting that. You’re referring to them as losers. Real f’n nice! This is not directed at you, but the people who do it.

People in all phases of media and that includes social media, need to take a class in tact.

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

      I agree, Tim.
These NFL players are some of the toughest hombres in America. They are ultra competitive. I don’t think many of them give up on anything very often. They probably cuss during ping pong.

  77. I wouldn’t blame the players for tanking, there is no incentive for them and it goes against their grain too

They want to win, but can’t until the commitment to win comes from the top down
It permeates from within, but everyone has to buy in 1000 percent, everyone

All teams have to deal with this, We just have a bunch of new coaches and players , and they are in over their heads ,when they aren’t getting full commitment to win in 2019 from the top to the bottom
The players got beat so bad Sunday, it’s extra frustrating for them on top of everything else

This is what they call adversity, lol. And how the team deals with this will show us their where there heart is, and what they are made of

  78. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I kind of think the talk about people not wanting to be here is manufacturered

It’s possible someone told someone after the game they didn’t want to be in Miami
But that’s just an emotional reaction

If it develops into something over the few weeks it’s worth discussing
But it might fade like any 🐖💨 does is time

Seems to me if the league did not discipline the Colts when they sucked for Luck, then they really can’t call us out either.
Course the league is letting the patsies steal Brown, soooo maybe

  81. When the team went into the locker room after losing the game 59-10, there was probably all kinds of stuff said in anger, maybe when heads cooled the discussions mellowed, but the media ran with the hot headed initial reactions, because Everybody loves trashing the Dolphins nowadays, it’s like a trend because their team sucks too, lol

I saw the cheats roll over the Steelers, Browns lost,

a lot of fans just didn’t get what they wanted, so let’s just trash the Dolphins to forget

And of course, Miami was unable to even compete, so we have to expect it will come

The best, and only way to shut up the critics is win, win, win, again and again

Until then, they won’t respect the team

    Nice!

  83. D's avatar D says:

Yes I was speculating on McCain and it wasn’t a strong speculation.

The only thing I can see with him is he is a vet on a big deal and was taken from his primary position one I then he plays well at and one I think he is comfortable at. I surmise from that and the fact his contract was given by the previous FO he might be one wanting a trade. He has never seemed like a malcontent to me so probably not just throwing it out there.

Jones as an aging vet looking for a championship and being a guy who displayed some not team first actions at the end of the year is more likely but still speculation.

I don’t know if anyone did anything but as with most rumors there can be a little truth with all rumors even though most likely it’s click hair by our wonderful sports reporters of Miami football.

  85. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

David – Every player is playing for his NFL future. They can’t afford to have a down year EVER. You think if they play poorly to support the tank and then they get cut or traded, they can just tell future employers that “we were tanking, I was ordered to suck”?
