Dolphins walloped by Patriots in 43-0 shutout

I would like to think after seeing what QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has done for the Dolphins so far this season that the decision to go forward with Josh Rosen as the starter is going to happen as early as Game 3, away against the Cowboys. In very limited time yesterday, Rosen had 2 potential TD’s dropped in the same drive, one to Jakeem Grant and one to Preston Williams, both very catchable balls that were mishandled. Obviously when you lose 43-0, who starts at QB isn’t the only issue, but the notion that the veteran QB gives them a better chance to win on Sunday simply can’t be true.

I said it before the season that the Dolphins were putting a lot on Eric Rowe’s plate. If we had 2 poor CB’s, he wouldn’t see as much action as pass attempts would probably be divided more equally, but with Xavien Howard on the other side of the field, teams will always look to exploit the weak link. Rowe has struggled here as the starter, after being used sparingly in NE for the past 3 seasons. Rowe started only 12 total games for the Patriots, and it’s pretty clear why. Rowe is not up to the task, but our depth at CB just isn’t there, with Jomal Wiltz, Chris Lammons and Johnson Bademosi.

I look at our O-line and D-line and think “Who are these guys”? If I told you Jesse Davis would be our LT a month ago you’d surely laugh. If I told you veteran DT John Jenkins, formerly of the Saints, Seahawks and more recently the NY Giants would be our starting RDE in our 3-4 base you’d say “huh?”. I love Godchaux, glad to see he’s still with us, but surprising he’s at the nose instead of DE where Jenkins is. Jenkins is 330lbs, you’d think they would flip flop those 2. Rookie LG Michael Deiter has been OK, and veteran OC Dan Kilgore is doing his best. Tough task for Kilgore with Deiter on one side and newly acquired Danny Isidora on the other. Now, veteran J’Marcus Webb is our RT, not LT. Good job Naples, you called the Webb signing!

Then there’s the Minkah defection. Here’s Minkah’s strengths in his draft profile:

Strengths

  • Loves ball, lives ball
  • Extremely competitive play demeanor with a history of showing up big in the biggest games
  • Versatile chess piece with experience all over the field
  • Can step right in and cover the slot, play high safety or handle nickel linebacker responsibilities
  • Good feet with ability to transition backward and forward smoothly around the field
  • Gets to top chase speed quickly
  • Can become rangy safety
  • Able to stick a foot in ground and drive to the ball
  • Plays with “ball-man” vision of an off-ball defender in basketball
  • Has awareness from zone to make loads of plays
  • Has nine career interceptions and four pick-sixes
  • Has downhill mindset as a hitter
  • Plays off of blocks and into tackling position
  • Dangerous blitzer off the edge
  • Attacks line of scrimmage from high safety look in run support and welcomes physical challenges
  • Special teams ace with 22 career coverage tackles

So where the heck does this 2nd year player come off not only complaining about how he’s being used, but actually asking for a trade? Some here want to defend that? Clueless! We’re on Game #3, deal with it! To me, this may be the most disappointing development so far this season. The team invests a high 1st RD draft pick on this player and he has the audacity to request a trade in only his second season. Garbage!

It’s been nearly impossible to make any kind of evaluation on our running backs or even our WR’s. We’re -92 in just 2 games, so how can you evaluate anything? Our RB’s have a total of 23 carries for 52 yards, and Kalen Ballage has 5 yards on 9 carries. Ugh! Of course the O-line and also the level of competition we have played factors in (Ravens, Patriots). It doesn’t get any easier as we play the Dallas Cowboys in their house. Dak Prescott is playing out of his mind so far, Zeke is just getting back into the groove, and the defense which looks to be pretty good behind DeMarcus Lawrence and Leighton Vander Esch hasn’t hit it’s stride yet, but will have a much easier job against us. Our best hope is the Cowboys look past us as they play at New Orleans the following week (w/o Drew Brees).

Going forward, I want to see Josh Rosen in at QB. I can’t stomach the sight of Ryan Fitzpatrick leading this team any longer. If there was initially the thought that Ryan Fitzpatrick gives this team the best chance to win, that thought certainly has perished. Our QB alone won’t elevate our team to victory, but it looks clear to me that Josh Rosen is the more talented QB at this juncture, he can make the throws that Fitz can’t, so it’s time. I’d like to see J’Marcus Webb at LT and Jesse Davis at his more natural RT spot. He looks slow and overmatched at LT. He will still be slow and overmatched at RT, but at least his mechanics are more familiar there. We have to get some offense going, it’s been dreadful. We complained for years that scoring 17-19 points a game doesn’t cut it during the Tannehill era, well now we’re down to 5 PPG, and that must change NOW!

I want to see Chandler Cox in the backfield in some power formation and let’s make some noise! I think Rosen can give us a little spark, but all the other pieces around him have to work at a high level in order to be competitive. Gesicki is slowly coming around, he has 3 catches for 42 yards. If I told you after 2 games that no receiver or running back has not yet reached 100 total yards yet, would you believe it? Who’s closest? WR Preston Williams has 87 yards receiving. We just have to run the ball to open up the passing game. I saw Fitz play action fake about 20 times yesterday and defenders didn’t buy more than 2 of those. They were coming after him and frankly it looked silly. We need to have a few sustainable drives or our defense will be toast before we get to the BYE week. We need all hands on deck, and that includes the mutinous Minkah. C’mon son, you’re a better man than that, TEAM FIRST!!!!!

GO DOLPHINS!!

Mike we don’t need to draft a LT, we have Davis locked up!

Maybe we can trade our later 1st rd pick to ourselves for our early first rd pick and get a couple of early 2021 picks in return. #Draftception

I love how these guys are requesting trades because they just wanna win. They’re winners. No, you just can’t handle losing. You don’t wanna work for wins. That doesn’t make you a winner. It makes you a whiny little entitled punk who wants it handed to you.

This kinda stuff is really turning me off to professional sports.

  4. Randy says:

I hate to break it to you guys, but Davis isn’t a RT either. He should be a backup, but we need him to start….at one of the most important positions in football. This OL isn’t getting fixed anytime soon.

  5. mf13ss says:

In the presser earlier this morning, Grier and Flores stressed that we will NOT be sitting on all of the cap savings we have in 2020: we’re going to spend on FAs (I assume WISELY, not frivolously like Tannenbaum).

    Here’s a list of scheduled O-Line FAs for 2020…

    https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/ufa/offensive-line/

  6. mf13ss says:

So IMO, there’s ONE sure-fire thing we’ll be doing in the 2020 Draft… acquiring a talented LT. I mean, even IF Josh Rosen pans out to be our QB of the future, we’ll need a LT of the future.

  7. mf13ss says:

    ————-
No thank you. Jalen is a bloody headcase.

  8. mf13ss says:

QB, LT, S, CB, O-Line (don’t care what position). Not necessarily in that order, but that’s what we’ve got to do in the 2020 Draft.

  9. Mike E. says:

We should be able to bring in at least 6-8 players that should make an impact to the team next draft and FA. If we do our job well, maybe more. We may not be competing for a SB, but we should be a tough beat.

  16. Tim Knight says:

So Grier, Flores and Ross tried to talk Minkah into staying and he balked. Gotta move him if you can and PIT offered a 1st so there you have it. Wish it didn’t go down this way. Onward and upward!

    • son of a son of a shula says:

But that has to be the end of it, the people at the top of this organization need to start cultivating a culture where guys want to play and be a part of. We’ve let a lot of good talent get spread around the league lately to the tune of 102-10.

      • Tim Knight says:

The 2020 offseason is going to be huge in changing the fortunes of this team. We’ll have a ton of resources to add talent just go hit on them.

  17. son of a son of a shula says:

Our opponents score 10 times more than we do.
    That blows my mind.

  18. ElephantRider says:

    Tim

    From last night.

I think its 2 years for revelancy. They are an entire team away from even being somewhat competitive. Next year they will win at least a couple. Lol

    • Tim Knight says:

It can change faster than that. I don’t mean a Super Bowl favorite but a much more competitive team to build on to get to that top level. It all depends on who we bring in and how they perform right away.

      • ElephantRider says:

        Thats the big “IF”……

I’d love to see some decent football by the end of this year. That would at least bring some hope that this staff can do some things if they get some talent to work with.

      • Tim Knight says:

Well IF is all we have. 🙂

I’m guessing the Steelers will likely be in the bidding, he would be a good fit there IMO
    ======================================
LMAO i knew he was going there, perfect fit.

their free safety Sean Davis went on IR

  20. my next prediction is we will never see Ben Rothlisberger on the field again, thats it for him

  21. ocalarob says:

After the realization of this year, i have four teams that i’m rooting for next week.
The niners…chargerers …Seahags …they all could be a clean sweep

can not root against Miami regardless of draft position.

  22. ocalarob says:

    Dallas favored by 28!

  23. ocalarob says:

I hope to see a more competitive team this year.

  24. ocalarob says:

The thing about Pittsburgh is the must have a lot of confidence in Rudolph, with Ben out for the season who knows if he comes back, he’s 38 years old and if he does will he last all season, knowing that they have this injury and starting 0-2 you would think instead of giving their 1st round pick for a safety that they should have kept that pick in case they needed to draft another QB next year.

  25. ocalarob says:

we kept it close with NE in the first half, we just have to finish better, i’m really leaning towards the (let’s see rosen now) camp.
had my fill of fitzpatrick, i watched him on one play in the shotgun where he was well behind the LOS, when they snapped the ball he dropped back another 10 yards, meanwhile Jesse Davis is trying to keep up with the DE.
you cannot just run around back there and expect your OL to maintain a pocket.

    • ocalarob says:

    • Tim Knight says:

The defense kept us in the game for sure and the offense did nothing over and over and that’s a recipe for disaster especially against a team like the Pats. This team is not in sync yet you can see it. The defense did a much better job this last game then against BAL but still they have to play better too. But it’s hard when you’re on the field all day with the offense running less plays then the opponent. That’s an issue that’s been haunting this team for years and it hasn’t stopped yet. However I didn’t expect this offense to be good out of the gate this year. Too much new.

They need to play some more competitive games soon even if they lose to gain some confidence or it could get uglier.

  26. ocalarob says:

Nick Oleary doesn’t know the play blows the blocking assignment otherwise that play would have picked up some yardage

  27. Mike E. says:

Rob – It’s harder to get out of your stance when your cement feet dry.

  28. ocalarob says:

check out X, whatever you do Miami don’t trade him!

    Thats the big “IF”……

I’d love to see some decent football by the end of this year. That would at least bring some hope that this staff can do some things if they get some talent to work with.

IF the young core of this defense is on this team I would love to see the concepts working. I railed for 2 years against the wide nine before we finally scrapped it. i hope we go from Multiple Peronality Disorder to the vaunted Multiple Defense by the end of the year.

  30. Randy says:

I’m getting prepared for a lot of bad football for at least a couple years.
    ^^^
I think they are hopeful of truly being competitive in year 3 of this process. Win as much as you can along the way but focus on changing the roster, building a structured program and setting the groundwork for future success. Just my opinion.

    • Tim Knight says:

Your first sentence is hard to disagree with based on the first two weeks but I really don’t think it will continue to be that bad even if we don’t win many games.

Your second point about the approach is exactly what it’s about. There are only 20 players left from last year on the roster and many of them have only been here a year or two. The “BLOW IT UP” is in full effect. Grier being handed the reins and a mostly new coaching staff with the exception of a few holdovers, it’s new for everyone. They have nothing to lean on from past success in Miami because there wasn’t much. This is a shell of the mediocre team we’ve had the last 5-7 years.

It’s painful but it had to happen.

  31. Randy says:

We just lost a kid who was going to be a big key to our multiple concept. You can’t do it without the right players.

I was talking about Jesse Davis
    ____________________
I don’t think davis is that bad.

  33. Tim Knight says:

Mike, Jesse Davis has worked at three positions the last two years. Now we have an OL that is 80% new that wasn’t here last year. We’re carrying 10 and only Davis and Kilgore (played in just 4 games last year) remain. 5 OL were added the week prior to the opener. That’s been a big part of our problem in these two blowout losses. It should settle down a bit and show more cohesiveness in the weeks to come. Not that they’ll be real good but right now it’s a merry-go-round.

Just remember when fans flippantly say “BLOW IT UP”, remember what it looks like. You don’t ever want to do this.

  34. Randy says:

    Tim,
While I hate seeing good, young talent leave the team, I really can’t bitch much about the trades. The Tunsil trade was just a no-brainer. It was too good to pass up. The Fitz trade didn’t exactly bring great compensation but these days players can put teams over a barrel when they do this. You can’t keep guys around who have said they want out. Maybe 20 years ago you could but not today, unfortunately.

In business, Brown would be considered a red flag, avoid red flags or get burnt

The doctor got burnt because he put his hands in the fire, Next time he needs to turn both remaining brain cells on at the same time, and avoid the red flags

  38. Steelers are down 0-2 and Ben is out for the season.. what does that mean for Miami?

The pick Miami received from Pittsburgh, will be a very good one, possibly a top ten selection

  39. If Miami could get a first for Rosen, they could draft both Tua and Herbert

    • Tim Knight says:

That shows you’re not sold on either. Not a good practice.

      • That was pretty much a joke, lol

Yes it’s possible they would have enough picks is what I meant, agreed we wouldn’t want both

If we took Tua, and got an RT, and an edge rusher in the first round, that’s already three needs filled with a lot of other picks left

Dolphins have a lot of picks, and have tons of options, they can almost do whatever they want

    3rd round (Dolphins)
    4th round (Dolphins)
    5th round (Dolphins)
    6th round (Steelers)

    • Tim Knight says:

With all the swaps of mid round picks I lost track and have yet to see anything accurate reported at this time. We’re also rumored to be getting a comp 3rd for James and a 5th for Wake.

It doesn’t really matter though, we have so many high round picks to work with the next two years.

  41. Tim Knight says:

David, Tua is the big name but not sure he’ll be #1 in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, I do think we’ll draft a QB high, maybe #1 or trade to get whoever it is we want. 2020 will be a 1st rd pick and Rosen. Let it work itself out. By then we might know how we feel about Rosen after this season with some game time. If good, that changes things a bit, if meh we take a QB high and maybe deal Rosen and find another backup. So much has to happen first.

    • At this point, predicting all of the above would be difficult because we haven’t even seen Rosen start yet, plus players always move up and down as the draft nears

BPA rules, if Miami has the number one selection, they have to strongly consider whoever the best player in the nation is, and avoid reaching down from number 1

Reaching down with the number one pick is not wise. If we really wanted that reach down player, trade the first pick down , get another pick, and select him at 5-7 or whatever the value works out to be

But the team should never reach down with the top pick in the draft, it’s just giving value away

  42. Tim Knight says:

David, your draft list is up to date as of now?

  43. Tim, when the draft nears, obviously 31 other teams will be aware that Maim has a bevy of picks, and who knows what might happen, it could get crazy

I feel assured that when the Dust setttles and it’s time to boo Goodell again, Miami will be in beautiful position to acquire the building blocks of their future

  44. Tim Knight says:

Our team will likely be 80% in 2020 different than it was in 2018. It’s already 38% different now.

    • steveccnv says:

You said, There are only 20 players left from the past on the team now. How is that 38% different?

Ok, now I see what you did. The 38% is still on the team, 62% different.

  45. sb7mvp says:

We own nearly 10% of the first round next year and Adam Gase is ruining the Jets so there are things to be positive about.

  46. wyoming85 says:

  47. wyoming85 says:

    • steveccnv says:

Well, if I wasn’t glad Gase was gone, I am now. Yeah let’s bring in 2 noodle arms to replace Darnold.

      Jets are now tanking😉

  48. New Age says:

Gase needs to sell his own rebuild so they keep him 4-5 more years. I hope it’s eating him alive that we were unwilling to rebuild the team in his image. Guy’s a cancer and I’m very happy he’s still in the division.

  49. steveccnv says:

I actually hope the jets turn into Miami north and play the 7-9 – 8-8 game for the next 10 years.

  50. steveccnv says:

We have 3 1s, 2 2s, 2 3s, 1 4, and 2 picks 5-7. Assuming comp picks in rounds 3 and 5. The 4th is from the Titans for RT. The extra 6th from Dallas for Quinn, the 7th from Chiefs for Lucas.

  51. Mike E. says:

Tim – I know what Davis is. Do you think I’m off on what I said? C’mon, if I told you he would be playing LT before the season, no matter who we let go, you would say “Huh”?

    • ocalarob says:

i have kept an eye on him, they just stuck him at LT at the spur of the moment. he’s been pretty damn good at RT, any pressure in the pats game was due to the qb breaking out of the pocket, i have not seen him get beat this year. obviously flores & grier thinks he’s good as well due to the extension they gave him.

  52. ocalarob says:

Now that we have the ammo we should trade back every draft when we can. we should always build for future drafts.
getting these number 1 & 2s should be bigger than just selecting a player at that spot, they should be used to get more picks in future years.
this is how you build a dynasty for years to come.

stay draft strong that is the key.

    • steveccnv says:

You actually have to put a competent team on the field at some point, so trading early round picks isn’t smart in our situation. Unless of course we want to trade the #1 pick for a kings randsome.

The Browns stayed bad for a long time partly, because they kept trading back for future picks. Is that what you want?

      • ocalarob says:

the thing is a 1st rnd pick in 2021 is only worth a 2nd in 2020, they devalue it due to the time. this is key because you can increase your draft value with equity.

you don’t have to trade back that far for future consideration, look at what we did with the saints, we dropped back 14 spots and picked up a 2020 2nd which BTW is looking pretty decent now that brees is injured.

not to mention we have multiple 1st and 2nd rnders you dont have to do it with every pick just use some to keep back loading future drafts.

down the road you will have a young team loaded with first and second rnders

      • steveccnv says:

I get how that works, but don’t you want to fill as many holes as possible in 2020?

      • ocalarob says:

i think you can do that and still build for future drafts as well.

      • steveccnv says:

I’m not willing to go 2-46, so we can have an extra future 1st. The problem is the balance between future compensation and the current cost of players. Waiting a year on compensation vs the current guys on rookie deals.

  53. ocalarob says:

check davis out in pass pro.

  54. Mike E. says:

Rob – Looked like Davis started blocking the wrong guy and actually looked like he held the guy coming around the corner in the first video.

  55. ocalarob says:

this OL was put together in 2 weeks time, i think we will see improvement as the year moves on

  56. ocalarob says:

Mike you picked the one play that may support your assessment of Davis, but how about the others? no comment on them?

  57. ocalarob says:

check this out, fitz going back so deep no one could stay in front of the defender, look how davis moves with him.

    https://pbs.twimg.com/ext_tw_video_thumb/1173286436918841344/pu/img/XCLnFXZTY9ILhjW1?format=jpg&name=900×900

  58. The Flying Pig says:

I’m pretty sure this OL will get better as the season goes on
But that is practically inevitable bc of how bad they are

We might have a brand new line in 2020
Interesting enough on that topic, Jack Conklin is almost certain to hit the market this offseason
The titans didn’t pick up his 5yh year option, it really makes no sense to tag him if you do that

We almost drafted Conklin instead of tunsil but then tunsil dropped to us

That’s a guy at a position worth throwing big $ at
It would be great to fill that RT hole up with a player like Conklin

If we are going to protect a young QB, we probably shouldn’t try to do it with a line of rookie OL, even if they are high picks

  59. Mike E. says:

Rob – Out of 50 plays I would hope you would be able to find a positive play or 2 from a player. My point is this, next year, do you think Jesse Davis is a starter at LT? Do you think he’s a starter at RT? My hope is he’s in a fight for a job at either RG or RT and hopefully we have a better alternative. I think he’s a swing player that can play a few positions but unless the depth on the OL is subpar, he’s a good guy to have on the bench.

    • ocalarob says:

depends on who we get? i doubt a rookie will take his job as a starter on the OL.
we would take a 2mil cap hit if we were to release him in 2020, that’s not much of a hit but i’m talking right now, who knows what the future holds. he’s our best OL right now.

      • ocalarob says:

or at least one of the best between he and kilgore.

      • Mike E. says:

You doubt a rookie is going to take his job? If we draft a LT in RD1 and he can’t beat out Jesse Davis, Grier, Flores and Gugs should all be fired!

      • ocalarob says:

he doesnt have to play LT to start on the OL, there are other positions, so if we do draft a LT he goes to RT, even if we draft a RT too he can go to guard, the fact is if he’s still here i would assume he’ll be a starter somewhere on that OL.

      • ocalarob says:

if he’s still here we will be paying him 6.5 million, if that’s the case one can assume he will be starting.

  60. ocalarob says:

    • ocalarob says:

watch how fast davis is and stays with his man even though the qb has broken down the pocket.

    • ocalarob says:

fitz has to know where his outlet is at all times, ballage was open underneath, get the ball out quicker and dont drop back so far. the pocket was there for him

    • ocalarob says:

you can see isidora lose his man on a stunt by the dl, he goes around kilgore who’s engaged and at that point ballage should have picked that guy up or at least chipped him.

  61. D says:

We can have the talent to be competitive for playoffs next year but we probably wont have the team chemistry to really play up to our talent. Id say 2 years is more likely, because of the chemistry factor, but i could see with the resources we have to spend next year, being able to have the team together pretty much by end of FA and draft next year.

    • Mike E. says:

Sometimes things turn around fast. Expecting it to happen though is a different story. We should be a better team next season, we should have a good infusion of talent between the draft and FA, and that should really elevate the play. I agree with the chemistry, and also it depends on who the QB is, Rosen or a rookie.

  62. The Flying Pig says:

    Oh…

    • Mike E. says:

Yuck! Sounds like I’ll find something else to do on Sunday while he’s still in love with Fitz. Does he not trust Rosen or does he trust Fitz just a little more? Either way . . .

      Booooooooooring, so fucking boring

it’s not holding unless its called!

    ——–

That’s correct for the game, but you were evaluating him. Would you also praise the Rams CB in the NFC Championship game on the Saints last play?

  74. Mike E. says:

Don’t buy jerseys!!! I have a feeling I may never buy one again

  75. The Flying Pig says:

    D

We are going to be in good position to take both a LT and a QB in the draft

I would draft a QB first, unless you really don’t like the QBs (which seems hard to believe)

I also think OL needs to be a priority in free agency and if you add a Conklin or a Scherff or both (which would be awesome) – that’s where our money goes first and foremost

I worry about multiple rookies on the OL, so we need some reliable vets

That said, Thomas would be awesome. Also keep an eye on Wirfs from Iowa

  76. steveccnv says:

Why is Rosen on the team if, A) you aren’t going to play him.
    B) you’re going to select another next year.

    • The Flying Pig says:

Right now it looks like a waste of a 2nd round pick if that’s what the plan was

But I find it hard to believe we won’t see him start soon

    • Mike E. says:

I don’t get not playing Rosen. They need to give him 1st team practice reps and get him into the game as a starter. No reason to to have Fitz as the starter.

      • D says:

Im telling you why but you just dont listen! Thy are using Fitz to get the system implemented and the rest of the offense knowing what they are doing so that when they move on with Rosen, they can help him adjust, instead of adding more confusion to what will already be a hard enough transition. I think it could be as early as next week, or as far out as the Redskins game. You get the feeling its coming pretty soon though.

  77. D says:

Piggy i see it as a numbers game. There are several QB’s right now that could go in the top part of the first, i just dont think any one of them is so important to miss out on Thomas, who reminds me of Tunsil in college, if not better. Its not sexy but IMO, it would be the better move to get him and then try to get one of the QB’s. I dont see Tua as any significant amount better than any of the other top guys.

    • The Flying Pig says:

      Yeah I get that logic

Tua and Herbert (as an example) are very different QBs though. An offense, at its best for each, would be different.

So I think when it comes to QB, you have to say to yourself “how do I want to build this team” and pick the QB that fits that and pick “your” guy and that probably means make QB your priority

    _______________

hell yeah! he blanketed that rec!

  79. ocalarob says:

seriously though, the ref saw that rams saints play from a different angle then we see it on tape, and he got one shot to get it right, the judgement was the ball being there before the rec got hit and it was close.

  80. ocalarob says:

look at it, was the ball there at the time of the hit? not to mention you’re in the nfc champ game late where the officials don’t want to decide the game so they let them play

  81. ocalarob says:

Not sure why we spent a 2nd rnd pick on Rosen just to draft a QB with the first pick in the draft next year….it doesn’t make sense.

  82. Krishna says:

Just reread Mike E.’s article and agree with everything. The rest is yadda, yadda.

If we don’t hit our picks next year we keep kicking the can. We haven’t replaced the talent we had.

It’s poke and hope. Oh well.

Something about a bird in the hand bullshit comes to mind.

  83. Mike E. says:

D – Is it possible that I just disagree with your explanation? I hear you, but why implement the offense with a guy that won’t be there? So just when everyone is comfortable, you put in a different guy (Rosen) with different tendencies and screw with everyone all over again? Are you telling me that Rosen doesn’t understand the offense well enough to run it? I’m not sure I can believe that, and if it’s true, how is Rosen just getting 2nd team reps in practice ever going to overtake Fitz who gets the majority of practice reps? These are reasons why I don’t think what you’re saying necessarily make sense.

  84. Tim Knight says:

For those of you who were suggesting trading for Taco Charlton, he’s being released by the Cowboys.

  85. naplesfan2010 says:

I bet we do bring Taco in for a workout.
Can you do that with a waived vet?
I would not even be surprised if we just signed him right off the waiver wire.

Due to our current record, don’t we get first “right to claim”?

    ———————————————-
I was just joking around with that comment anyways.

Still you use Fitz because h is a journeyman QB who has helped teams do this in the past. Its bringing in the corporate training guy, sure you have managers that are going to run the place, but you want a guy who can install a system, you want your leaders who will be there when he is gone to see how to lead, you want the team members who are learning how to do things the company way to learn from them, and then the transition from that guy to their permanent leader is easier, and a lot of time it helps the new leader have an easier transition too. Now or bye week? is there really that big of a reason you need to move up to now? I cant think of one, and i can think of a bunch of things that might be better waiting until after the bye.

If we pick him up before he clears waivers we pick up his entire guaranteed contract. Not sure we want to do that.
    ——————————————
Its a rookie contract, so its nto that big, and it would get us the ability to keep him on a 5th year if we wanted to exercise that option. If not then we have to sign him to a FA contract and then if we dont agree to multiple years just turn around and do it again.

  88. D says:

I dont see bringing in Taco as a big risk.Former first rounder, needs a change of scenery. I cant remember if he fits our scheme here but i think i remember him being a hybrid DE/DT so there might be a place for him. Either way, not biggie if they dont, no biggie if they do.

  89. naplesfan2010 says:

I think “the plan” all along was Fitz till the bye and Rosen after.
There are multiple reasons to do that.
If Fitz throws 2 or more picks at Big D, however, they might give up on him.

The oddity is playing Rosen late in the 2 games, but I think both the team and Fitz playing so badly forced them to go to Rosen, just to get Fitz off the field before he’s unplayable.

Me? I would’ve started Rosen day 1. But then the Ravens might’ve killed him, and then we’d’ve been stuck with Fitz for the rest of 2019, which would’ve been a disaster as far as eval on Rosen.

  90. ocalarob says:

when the cowgirls took taco charlton they really wanted Charles harris and were disappointed when Miami took him.

either way neither has lived up to their draft status, this reason is why you move back with certain early picks in the draft to acquire other early picks in years to come.

it’s a crap shoot, the more you roll the better odds you have.

  91. ocalarob says:

as for Rosen, we just put a patch work OL together a couple of weeks ago, do you really want to throw him out there now? we added out RT last week!

i can understand why they want to wait a little bit to let the OL get acclimated

if Fitz starts playing bad i’m sure he’ll get the hook, it’s not like we want to win.

  95. Tim Knight says:

D, if we claimed Taco Charlton off waivers we’d take on his contract and if we weren’t impressed with him and wanted to release him we’d eat that money in dead cap. I don’t think he’s worth that with his up and down career so far. Better off just signing him as a FA if we can.
