The Tua era begins!

Get used to seeing this, this image is the future of our team. I thank Ryan Fitzpatrick for his dedication and his leadership and the inspiration he provided for our team, the Miami Dolphins. His enjoyment and enthusiasm was infectious. I’m not going to disparage Ryan Fitzpatrick in order to make it clear why Tua should be starting. If we can look at things and detach ourselves from Ryan Fitzpatrick the person, you can realize that it’s been the defense and its improvement that has changed the fortune of the team, not the play of the QB. Fitz is pretty up and down and while he’s having a good season, don’t be lulled into thinking it was great. Now the team is finally scoring over 25 PPG but in this NFL, decent teams do that. The main reason we’re now 3-3 is because our defense is allowing only 18.8 PPG, good for 4th in the NFL.

Before the 2020 NFL draft, and before the injury to Tua Tagovailoa, Tua was considered the most pro ready NFL prospect and possibly the most talented. Yes, Joe Burrow had one epic season but Tua had been doing it for longer, getting better each season while starting a high floor to begin with. I think the plan was to use the BYE week to give Tua the maximum amount of time to get reps in practice. Unfortunately due to COVID-19, the NFL was forced to reschedule a few games which led to a change in our BYE week from Week 11 to Week 7. Without any preseason games for Tua to get ready and get some action, this is the next best opportunity and the fact that it presented itself 4 weeks earlier is unfortunate for Ryan Fitzpatrick but hopefully ends up being better for our team.

We got a glimpse this past Sunday of Tua, 2 pass attempts, 2 completions for a total of 9 yards and he converted a 3rd down, the ONLY 3rd down conversion of the day for the Miami Dolphins. We can do better folks, we really can. That’s not a knock on Fitzpatrick but if we can’t convert any 3rd downs against the Jets, how can we do it against better teams? I feel like Mike Gesicki has once again become totally underutilized. He IS that TE we’ve been waiting for, we need to use him. The O-line has been getting the job done, even with the necessitated switch of Jesse Davis to LT and Robert Hunt to RT. I know many are worried now as to whether Hunt can protect Tua’s blind side but the coaches are aware and will work around it. Tua can move and he will get rid of the ball quickly. Myles Gaskin has carried the load and the load continues to progressively increase. This is good. We haven’t had that kind of consistency with a RB since Jay Ajayi was here. Thankfully Adam Gase isn’t here anymore so Gaskin is safe.

Look to the future, both immediate and distant and be happy #1 is now our QB. Be excited! Let yourself feel the energy of having an elite talent at QB. This is what you have waited for so don’t be shy, nervous or otherwise, embrace it! This is a great time for our team, you can see that things are coming together, and we’re in year 1 of the rebuild after the tear down. The defense we were complaining about earlier in the season is playing as well or better than we all hoped they would at this juncture. Be excited! This is what we live for as Dolphins fans so don’t squander it with “What ifs” and “How come now”, just be freaking elated that we’re just a game out from being atop our division and our best football is yet to come! Oh, and be excited that the Bi Week Babe is coming to a blog near you very soon, as early as this weekend!

Cinderella story…the Miami Dolphins switch to their rook QB just before their bye week and come back to win 10 straight to finish 13-3 with a first round bye for the playoffs.

oh, what a positive post for the turn!

Yes, and we are re-calling our liberal governor, of course last election we re called Scott Walker, conservative. The vitriol just seems to be never ending, and this goes back to before our current President was elected. When are we as voters and citizens going to realize that most of the people who run are self serving idiots? We need to do something do good decent people want to run for office

  8. olddolphan says:

I REALIZE the San Francisco team we destroyed is not the exact same team that’s crushing New England today. But man oh man, you’ve GOT TO BELIEVE that on a given day our boys have a shot at any team they are likely to play this season, even the Chiefs. FLO has got this team rolling in the right direction. And, with TUA slated to start the NEXT 10 GAMES IN THE REGULAR SEASON, I believe the Dolphins will be A MUCH BETTER TEAM BY TIME THE PLAYOFFS ROLL AROUND (barring key injuries).

THERE ARE NO automatic “L’s” left on the schedule. WE HAVE A SHOT!!

The Herd is ranked 18 or 19, depending on which poll it is. I was afraid weā€™d drop out from 22 after we had less than a stellar win over FAU yesterday. No offense, OD, just wasnā€™t our best game.

    • olddolphan says:

HERD: NO OFFENSE TAKEN. FAU went from having a really good coach to having a really lousy coach in the off season. WE need to significantly upgrade our head coach if we are to compete successfully in Conference USA. Until then,it’s stinksville for FAU!

I think it would be a mistake if Fitz is gone. What happened to mentoring?

  19. steveccnv says:

We need the cheats to win 2 more games. That would give Buffalo 2 more losses and the jets 2 wins.

  20. CavalierKong says:

Niners averaging 8.4 yds a play, lol.

I think we can all finally agree on the answer to “was it Brady or Belicheat?”

and that answer is “WE DON’T CARE!! SO LONG AS THE PATS SUCK!! WHOOP WHOOP!!

  22. Rockphin says:

It would be great to see Gase win enough game so that the Giants can take Lawrence. LOL

  27. bailbondmike says:

Pats are a Bill next week. Who do we root for?

  28. Tim Knight says:

Let’s say Houston did have the #1 pick, do the Dolphins draft Lawrence or ask for a king’s ransom for that pick?

  29. bailbondmike says:

Steelers are at Ravens and hot 49er’s team rolls into Seattle next week. Hopefully both undefeated teams go down.

  30. olddolphan says:

KEN: IF Houston’s #1 pick ends up being the FIRST OVERALL PICK, would you trade down for a GROUP of picks or use it on the best overall defensive player in the draft??

  35. steveccnv says:

Now who was it Belicheat or brady?

  36. Tim Knight says:

If we ended up with the #1 pick via HOU we could have a boatload of picks for years to come. That would be amazing.

  37. bailbondmike says:

Props to SF coach letting Jimmy G step on the Pats throats and not taking him out yet. I would after this though.

I would call a timeout and take him out of the game where he can walk off the field while glancing at Bellicheat. lol

Why is it everyone wants to be me šŸ˜†

  39. steveccnv says:

Raiders lost, so that moved us up a spot, or at least another team isn’t ahead of us, in the AFC.

  40. olddolphan says:

STEVE ASKS “Was it Belicheat or Brady?” That’s easy to answer.

    IT WAS BRADY.

Before Brady, Belicheat STUNK and got fired as HC at Cleveland. He has, I believe an overall LOSING record as an NFL HC in games not started by Brady. But, thanks in no small way to Bob Krapp, the birth of the “CHEATRIOT EMPIRE” was fueled by Krapp’s money and influence plus Tom Brady. Under no circumstances should Belicheat be considered for the Hall of Fame in Canton.
BOTH BELICHEAT AND KRAPP belong in the Hall of Shame!

  41. herdfan says:

Henne in for Mahomes to wrap up the game. I didnā€™t know he was still playing.

  42. bailbondmike says:

Raiders are at Browns next week. That one is a toss up for me.

    • steveccnv says:

Whoever wins it’s probably Ok. Browns have a few tough games coming up against the Ravens, Steelers, Tenn, Houston, and Phil.

  43. herdfan says:

    Henne got himself a TD!

  44. bailbondmike says:

Herbert and Burrow playing well. It is Tua time! We did draft him to take over this team.

  45. bookman11 says:

I just got back on Twitter. Probably a bad mistake. Who should i follow Dolphins wise?

  46. olddolphan says:

FOR SOME REASON, HENNE brings back memories of the third string QB when the Dolphins won back-to-back Super Bowls in ’72 and ’73. For at least part of that time, a guy from the U. of Tampa named Jim Del Gaizo (AKA “The Mad Bomber”) was the 3rd stringer after Griese and Morrall. He got his nickname from his propensity for throwing long passes on the infrequent times he actually got to play. One memorable game occurred in New England when the Fins were up on the Pats by about 38-0 in the final quarter. Del Gaizo came in and promptly completed not one but TWO long bombs for touchdowns, making the final 52-0!!! The Pats GM reportedly complained to Shula about it after the game. It is not known what Shula said in reply. However, next time Del Gaizo got in a game, I DO NOT remember him throwing a pass that was longer than 10 yards.
    ———————
Before the U of Tampa dropped down to Division III in football, ANOTHER former Tampa QB actually helped to defeat the Dolphins and Dan Marino in Super Bowl XIX. Can you name him?
    ———————
The correct answer is Freddie Solomon who, by Super Bowl XIX, was one of Joe Montana’s top reserve wideouts for the ’49ers! He had a pretty outstanding college career as a QB for the U. of Tampa.

  47. Tim Knight says:

I hope Austin Jackson is getting ready to suit up again. We’ve done a good job with this new and young OL, and Jackson was a part of that early on. Glad to see Hunt getting more snaps.

  48. Tim Knight says:

That was an amazing effort and display of speed by Metcalf. That dude is a gamer.

  49. Tim Knight says:

I wonder if DT Benito Jones gets some playing time with Godchaux done for the year. I know some us liked him as a UDFA prospect.

By the way Russell Wilson is playing out of his mind.

  50. CavalierKong says:

Another good series game. The Dodgers clamped down and are 1 win away.

  51. CavalierKong says:

    And then there was one…

  52. Tim Knight says:

    One undefeated team left. šŸ˜‰

  53. wyoming85 says:

  54. steveccnv says:

I’m pretty sure Shula wont be rolling over in his grave, his undefeated season is safe for one more year.

  55. steveccnv says:

Story after story about Dolphins making a mistake about starting Tua. Lol, like these guys know the difference between a hole in the ground and…Fitz has never taken a team to the playoffs and is limited, his style isn’t setup to play consistently.

They talk about the way he helps the OL by scrambling, well he doesn’t scramble, he just runs. Wilson and Mahomes scramble. Tua on his first pass scrambled out to the left and made a play, that’s more scrambles than Fitz has had all year. Ok I kid, but I think you get the point.

It was fun watching Fitz, but now it’s time to win consistently. It may not happen right away, but we have to get Tua in there now or his development will be slowed.

    Tua Time!

  56. steveccnv says:

With Burrow and Herbert they say they’ve had success, which I’ll agree with to a point, but to me success is really winning.

Sure, for the future, I’d rather have the rookie QB that’s lighting up the stat sheet, than the one that’s winning a few games and is a game manager, that can’t move a team through the air better than average.

I hope Tua falls somewhere in between a game manager and a losing gunslinger. I expect he won’t have the 300 yard games, but will consistently be around 250, with great accuracy and smart play.

    • D says:

The team isnt putting much of an effort to help Burrow, but he is playing well, and like you said, losing. The Chargers, and Herbert, are actually winning, and i think in part to how well he has played. Winning as a rookie is not always going to happen. Some HOF QB’s came into the league and their first season has been bleh or worse so to me i just wanna see the guy not look like a complete fish out of water, i want to see him start to build on things, and just however the season goes that first year, so be it.

      • steveccnv says:

The Chargers are 2-4, I wouldn’t call that winning. He’s been right there at the end, but like Burrow doesn’t know how to win yet.

      • D says:

I thought they were 4-2, my bad maybe i read that wrong the other day.

    ——————————————————–
Yeah i think he is probably a Godchaux story in the make. He has a lot of potential to become a starter and a dominant player for us. Just a matter if he meets that potential or not.

  60. ocalarob says:

Pats lose Cam benched, any other good news?
oh yeah Texans are 1-6, that first rounder keeps climbing every week, could be top 5!

    • steveccnv says:

Not sure what the problem is in Houston, but I don’t see a 1-6 team. I think we’re very fortunate for what has happened. Wouldn’t be surprised, if they got hot at some point. I’m looking at it hoping we get a top 10 pick.

  61. ocalarob says:

With 9 games leftthey may win 4 or 5 at best 6-10
If they finish there it woluld be about the 8th pick.
At 5-11 we finished 5-11 and got the 5th pick.
Any way you cut it that will be a great pick in next years draft

  62. ocalarob says:

I know this is a stretch but what if they end up 1-15?
    Do we draft trevor lawrence?

      • TOP SECRET says:

did you even watch the video?

      • stangerx says:

Yes I did…. he’s the one who said his neighborhood is all Trump flags including the lesbian couple across the street. Shows incredible Trump support. I only asked if that is silent support. I don’t have a flag.

      • Rockphin says:

He is wearing a dunce cap so it is obvious

      • TOP SECRET says:

yes, BUT AFTER what they found out.

      • stangerx says:

Fair enough…. but you are the one who asked if I watched and answer is they are not silent now I take it — which was my Q. You do get was from Breitbart I hope. I knew but was just curious how even their theme matched up to the title.

      • TOP SECRET says:

i agree, it should have been called “silent no more”

      • steveccnv says:

When he asked, if you watched the video, he meant did you also comprehend what the guy said. Most supporters for Trump are silent. In this instance, once the first sign went up, the rest followed, so they were silent until they felt it was safe.

      • TOP SECRET says:

hence the reason i said “silent no more”…. šŸ™‚

No it would be great if Houston gets the 1st pick.
    ——————————————————–
I have been thinking about it and i see no players that we should want worth that 1st overall pick, at least not right now. Id trade it to someone that wanted to get Lawrence, and the Jets wouldn’t be the trade partner lol. I hope the jets are dumb enough to select Fields, because i have never seen a OSU QB that did much in the NFL, at least not modern era.

    • stangerx says:

It’s fun to think about, but it ain’t gonna happen. I’d be doing back flips if Houston ended up at #5. But if we had #1 you do what makes sense…. and we’ve seen Tua for three plays so far.

      • D says:

i know i mean i have been one of the ones saying i dont think that Houston is a bad team and probably wind up 8-8 i was just rolling with some of the others who were pipe dreaming the 1st overall

    • TOP SECRET says:

i would trade the houston pick away for what i no doubt believe to be a kings ransome.

  69. Mike E. says:

It’s not looking like an 8-8 season for the Texans but they can definitely run off some wins. Hopefully the pick stays in the top 10, that would be great

  70. Rockphin says:

The question bolis down to, do you think Tua will be a better QB than Lawrence or visa versa. If you believe Lawrence is a significant upgrade over Tua then you take Lawrence #1 and trade Tua for whatever you can get.

    • D says:

Thats like an ADHD solution to getting your QB,…….o whats that oh its shiny…..wait whats that oh its shiny!….wait, whats that over there….SHINY! Make your selection, develop him, and if shit doesnt pan out THEN oyu look for a new one, would be extremely dumb to draft a QB next year

      • CavalierKong says:

        Worked for the Cards.

      • steveccnv says:

You’re just going to come right out and say that without any circumstances? Seems a bit odd.

      • D says:

Worked for the Cards because they completely redid their entire team, coaching etc, and brought in a coach that wanted to run a system that was perfect for him and not for Rosen, i dont think its the same circumstance.

  71. D says:

I dont think this years DE pool is all that great, and i assume Hunt is doing well enough they think he can be the blind side OT for Tua so we wont need to try to get Leatherwood to be an RT for us. Id like to take a WR in the first but im thinking more our second first than the first one. There are a couple hybrid DT/DE’s to look at but we could trade back and get one of them. CB seems solid for us, so we wouldnt need to go super high for that, though i would really like Surtain. So yeah i dont see any reason that first pick shouldnt be trade bait.

  72. CavalierKong says:

Texans likely get their 2nd win this week against the Jags to finish 2-6 at the halfway mark.

    Texans 2nd half schedule

    at Browns
    Pets
    at Lions
    Colts
    at Bears
    at Colts
    Bengals
    Titans

Strong chance for wins against the Lions and Bengals. May get one against the Colts and/or the Pets. I still like the Texas chances of only getting 4-6 wins. Strong possibility we get a top 10 pick which is great.

If the Texans somehow lose to the Jags this week, maybe they start going into the tank and they end up on the lower end like 3 or 4 wins, then we’re in the top 5.

    • steveccnv says:

What I haven’t heard yet is how bottom heavy the standings are, lots of 1 win teams, so likely what 5 wins got us last year, won’t get in 2021.

      • steveccnv says:

7 teams with 1 or 0 wins including Cin with a win and tie. Some of these teams will pick up the pace as we did last year and some will play each other, so someone has to win or tie.

      • CavalierKong says:

        Agreed with both your comments.

    • TOP SECRET says:

i can’t see them tanking, unless they FORGOT that they traded their top pick to us, lol.

      • CavalierKong says:

I don’t mean tank like we were accused of last year, I’m talking more along the lines of players calling it a year and not putting forth full effort, going through the motions, etc. Once that happens then you can rule out surprise wins.

One of the reasons I still think they can get 6 wins is they have the talent to win any given week, so there will likely be a win against the Titans or the Colts that no one is expecting, but if players have packed it up…

      • TOP SECRET says:

personally i can’t see ANY professional athlete “tanking”, it’s not in the make up.

      • CavalierKong says:

I think that is your never say die Marine mentality.

It happens all the time. Especially in a grueling sport like football. Players make business decisions.

      • TOP SECRET says:

my personal motto was ” i don’t want to die for my country, i want to make him die for his”….. just saying.

      • CavalierKong says:

My best friend I grew up with is a Marine. He’s about the only guy I’ve ever looked up to my whole life. I have nothing but respect for the way you guys operate.

  73. D says:

I dunno, Houston has this for the rest of the season.
Jags, whom they have already beat once.
Browns, which is certainly winnable for them, Browns are all over the place this year.
Patriots, who are playing like shit. Winnable.
    Lions, definitely winnable.
Colts twice, and those should be 50/50 games. So say they split them.
Bears, who are playing sloppy but getting lucky with the W’s
Bengals who are the opposite, playing pretty well but not getting W’s
and The Titans which ill put down as a L.

so to me looking at that two losses likely, maybe 3, 7-9 or 8-8 doesnt seem out of the question.

    • D says:

i think 6-10 to 8-8 are all strong possibilities. Like Kong said above though, if they lose to the Jags, they might just start looking at a fire sale or something else, they will have a new coach coming in so it could happen, but knowing they traded their 1st, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for them to tank, unless they can get a first back trading off some of their studs, perhaps even Watson if they can get out of the contract without too much damage.

  74. steveccnv says:

How exactly is that going to workšŸ¤”

They trade off some guys and get a first in return. How does that affect a tank, when the new 1st round picks wouldn’t be based on what position they finish? Or are you saying tank by lack of talent, which really isn’t tanking, but what we were accused of last year.

    • D says:

Lets say they fire sale, and trade top guy, get some 1st in return like we did. They “tank” due to lack of talent, and get their start on a rebuild. Mayb they keep Watson if the coach coming in can work with him, maybe they shed guys like Watt and Mercilus, 28-30ish year olds on the team that are going to be expensive re-signs.

  75. TOP SECRET says:

i don’t know, but i have a pretty good feeling that COACH FLO has evaluated TUA correctly. i don’t think we will be looking for a starting QB in 2021, barring injury.

    • steveccnv says:

He doesn’t have a crystal ball and the injury thing is still mostly an unknown.

But I agree, I think Tua is the real deal. Again, Pennington smarts with a much better arm and legs.

    • CavalierKong says:

I can’t wait to see the kid play. I’m not much of a college ball guy and I don’t scout for the draft like a lot on here do, so my sum total of Tua plays watched is seven. His injury play with ‘Bama, and six against the Jest.

I don’t think we have any shot at the overall #1, so this is all more a theoretical exercise IMO. And if it were me, unless Tua completely stinks it up, which I highly doubt happens, I’d take the three #1 picks minimum we likely get for the Lawrence pick.

      • steveccnv says:

A new wrench thrown into the mix was how the jets D was able to keep Buffalo out of the endzone. Had they played a bad team they may have won that game. Sure Buffalo was probably playing down to them, but others may too.
